Cleaning with Intention

As a part of my major pre-Spring Equinox cleansing ritual I decided to make some cleansers with intention.
First up is this rose water scrub that I’m going to use to clean up the surface of the bigger of the two altars, which accumulated some wax spots over the Koleda/Christmas holiday. Rose water is used to promote feelings of love and harmony, feelings which I want to send to the deities and ancestral spirits I work with.
It also has salt which is good for removing unwanted spiritual energies.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup baking soda
2 TB water
1 TB coarse sea salt
2 tsp rose water
Directions:
Just stir the ingredients together.

I also made up an all purpose lemon cleaner which I’ll use on the floors and any other surfaces I feel could use a good scrub.
“Lemons have a cut-and-clear effect on a space, and have long been associated with destroying curses and breaking hexes . . . vinegar will help get rid of unwanted energies and protect the home from invaders and malicious forces.” —New World Witchery
The intention here is to get rid of habits and any bad energy that has accumulated.
Ingredients:
1 part white vinegar
1 part lemon juice
1 TB lemon extract
2 parts water
Directions:
Mix it all together

Instructions
Add pine cuttings to your mason jar and pack in enough so that the jar is full, but you can still put on a lid.
Fill the rest of the jar with white vinegar, covering the pine needles.
Add 5 drops lemon essential oil and screw on the lid.
Shake to mix, then place in the pantry to steep for at least 2 weeks.
Strain to remove pine needles and pour into spray bottle, 2/3 full. Fill remainder of bottle with filtered water and shake.

Creating a Safe Haven: The Importance of Natural Cleaners in Our Homes
Hello dear homemakers and health enthusiasts! Today, let's dive into a topic that's close to my heart as both a homemaker and a naturopathic geek: the importance of using safe and natural cleaners in our homes. In our quest to create a clean and welcoming environment for our families, it's essential that we prioritize not just cleanliness, but also the health and well-being of our loved ones. Let's explore the impact of conventional cleaning products on our health, particularly on cognition and toxicity, and discover the transformative power of natural alternatives.
First and foremost, the hidden dangers lurking in many conventional cleaning products. From harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances to toxic fumes and irritants, these products can wreak havoc on our health, compromising indoor air quality and posing risks to our respiratory system, skin, and overall well-being. But perhaps most concerning of all is the impact of these chemicals on our children, who are particularly vulnerable to their effects.
You see, kids have a knack for getting into everything—including cleaning products. Whether it's curious toddlers exploring under the sink or adventurous preschoolers mistaking colorful bottles for toys, the risk of accidental ingestion or exposure to harmful chemicals is all too real. And the consequences can be dire, ranging from mild irritations and allergic reactions to more serious health issues such as respiratory problems, neurological effects, and even poisoning.
But fear not, dear friends, for there is a solution: the transformative power of natural cleaners. By harnessing the cleansing power of nature's bounty—think vinegar, baking soda, essential oils, and plant-based detergents—we can effectively clean our homes without compromising our health or the environment. These gentle yet effective alternatives not only leave your home sparkling clean but also provide peace of mind, knowing that you're creating a safe and healthy haven for your family to thrive in.
Moreover, natural cleaners offer a myriad of benefits beyond their safety profile. They're environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and free from harmful chemicals and toxins, making them a sustainable choice for eco-conscious homemakers. Plus, they often boast antimicrobial, antifungal, and antibacterial properties, helping to combat germs and pathogens without the need for harsh chemicals or synthetic additives.
Let's make a pledge to prioritize the health and safety of our families by embracing the transformative power of natural cleaners. Let's banish harmful chemicals from our homes and replace them with gentle yet effective alternatives that nourish both body and soul. Together, we can create a clean, welcoming, and truly safe haven for our loved ones to thrive in. Here's what I'm using and loving here in the cozy little cabin.
Here's an amazing recipe I created to make your own homemade cleaner at home:
Lavender Lemonade Sparkle Spray:
Ingredients:
1 cup distilled water
1/4 cup white vinegar
10 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops lemon essential oil
1 tablespoon witch hazel
1 teaspoon liquid castile soap
Instructions:
In a clean spray bottle, combine the distilled water and white vinegar.
Add the lavender and lemon essential oils, along with the witch hazel and liquid castile soap.
If desired, add a splash of rubbing alcohol for extra cleaning power and sparkle.
Secure the spray bottle cap and shake well to mix all ingredients thoroughly.
Your Lavender Lemonade Sparkle Spray is now ready to use! Simply spritz onto surfaces and wipe clean with a cloth for a fresh, sparkling finish that leaves behind a delightful aroma of lavender and lemon.
Enjoy the unique blend of calming lavender and refreshing lemon as you clean your home, turning chores into a fragrant and uplifting experience.
Enjoy!
Love, Kimmi

Monsoon Gardening Tips: How to Keep Your Home Garden Thriving
The monsoon season brings a welcome respite from the summer heat, but it also poses unique challenges for home gardeners. Excess moisture, fluctuating temperatures, and reduced sunlight can affect plant health, especially in an organic vegetable garden. However, with the right care and natural solutions, your garden can not only survive but thrive during the rainy season.
1. Ensure Proper Drainage
Too much water is the most common issue during monsoons. Make sure your pots and garden beds have good drainage. Use raised beds or add a layer of gravel at the bottom of pots to prevent root rot. For your organic vegetable garden, ensure that water doesn’t stagnate around root zones of plants like tomatoes, chillies, and brinjal.
2. Use Mulch to Protect the Soil
Covering the soil with organic mulch such as dry leaves, coconut husk, or grass clippings helps regulate moisture, prevents soil erosion, and reduces weed growth. Mulching is especially beneficial for vegetables like okra and beans, which thrive in well-balanced moisture levels.
3. Choose Monsoon-Friendly Vegetables
Some vegetables perform better during the monsoon season. Try growing:
Spinach
Fenugreek (methi)
Amaranthus (thandu keerai)
Bottle gourd
Ridge gourd
These are relatively hardy and well-suited for wet conditions in an organic vegetable garden.
4. Prevent Fungal Infections Naturally
High humidity creates a perfect environment for fungal diseases. Instead of using chemical fungicides, try homemade cleaners. A simple mix of neem oil, water, and a few drops of liquid soap can be sprayed on leaves to prevent mildew and pests. This natural spray is safe for vegetables and also keeps harmful bugs away.
If you want to go a step further, you can learn how to make soap at home. A gentle, organic soap can be used in garden sprays or even to clean your gardening tools without leaving chemical residues.
5. Clean Garden Tools with Natural Soap
Monsoon dampness can lead to rust and bacterial buildup on tools. Keep your garden tools clean using a homemade cleaner or a natural soap solution. A mixture of vinegar, citrus peels, and bio-enzymes is perfect for cleaning metal and plastic tools.
6. Composting During Monsoon
Don’t stop composting just because it’s raining! Use covered bins and mix dry and wet waste in proper ratios. Moisture can speed up composting if done right.
7. Maintain Air Circulation
Good airflow reduces the chances of fungal growth. Prune dead or overgrown parts of plants and avoid overcrowding. This also ensures better sunlight exposure and overall plant health.
Monsoon gardening doesn’t have to be messy or difficult. With the right practices and natural solutions, your home garden can thrive even in the heaviest rains. Focus on building a resilient organic vegetable garden, make use of homemade cleaners, and even experiment with how to make soap at home for all-natural garden care.
Nature has all the tools you need - you just need to use them wisely.
