@dduane watched thiis with me, then announced "You can make those any time you like".
That sounds like A Hint. :->
She was talking more about the Aloo Tikki than the chutneys, since one has dates and tamarind (fruit sugars) and the other has chickpeas (pulses), both of which are on her IBS "Be Very Very Careful" list, even more so after last week's incident.
Spicy crunchy potato fritters, on the other hand, get a green light all the way.
*****
An added bonus to these videos is Bumbi's pleasant voice, which reminds me of Hari Sarpal Singh's mum from my schooldays in the early 1970s, when I first discovered I had a taste for Indian food, and Mrs S gave me some tuition about how to do it right. (I posted about that a few years ago, here.)
Back then there was, IIRC, only one Indian restaurant in the whole of Northern Ireland, proper ingredients including the most basic spices were very hard to find, and where Mrs S got hers, I never thought to ask - by post from relatives in England, probably, or perhaps even further afield.
Vencat (later Sharwoods) curry powder was available at Sawer's delicatessen counter in Belfast, near my Dad's office, but "making" my own home-made curry in NI usually meant nothing more elaborate than reconstituting a pack of dehydrated Vesta in boiling water.
Tumblr media
They did other things besides curry, and the Vesta range may have been my "cooking with foreign foods" equivalent of learning to ride a motorbike, starting out like this...
Tumblr media
...and finishing like this.
Tumblr media
I've never ridden a big motorbike in my life, but I can certainly cook a lot better than when I started. I've got my own masala grinder and everything...

Silly idea due to the fact I have the cilantro = soap gene. Expanding off this post I made yesterday. Gonna be a fluffy fun fic with a lil spice at the end.
Tags: fem!reader x Soap Mactavish, blowjobs, cunnilingus
Tagging: @tf141glory because they said they wanted a fic from that joke post
Tumblr media
You noticed that Task Force 141 ordered a lot of takeout, though you chalked that up to the grueling work that you all did to keep the world safe. MREs were all fine and good and you noticed each of the men had their own particular food they could cook.
Soap would occasionally cook something called cock-a-leekie soup and the name of the dish never ceased to make you chuckle, much to his enjoyment. You noticed that when you laughed he would always give you a big smile, the corners of his eyes wrinkling ever so slightly.
Price was a traditional British man through and through; the man loved bangers and mash and at one point cooked it every day for a week until you got sick of it and you never saw him without a scone at tea.
You'd asked Ghost what he knew to cook one time and he shrugged, giving you an answer that avoided talking about himself like he always did. But you noticed that next weekend he was in the kitchen making a cottage pie for everyone. You'd given him a little teasing about hidden culinary skills to which he told you the very vaguest parts of his history from when he was a child; the enjoyment he got from when his mum would make this exact recipe. There was a sadness to his eyes as he changed the subject so you dropped the subject.
Gaz was the odd man out in that he didn't really know how to cook, you chalked it up to him being the youngest of the team and lacking experience in that department. But the man was amazing with chips and other friend foods which led you to your current dinner, everyone sat around a table with a big plate of curry chips.
The masala curry was on par with what you'd tried from the local shops which made Gaz's smile bright when you complimented him on it.
"Thanks, mate! Made it myself because I had a wild craving for curry chips and figured I'd share. Never made a curry before that wasn't from a jar but I think it turned out alright, yeah?"
"Yeah, not too spicy either. Y' did good on this one!" Soap was already getting a second helping.
"What, got a weak tongue, Sergeant?" Ghost had been picking at his plate idly with a book in front of him.
"Nae wha' ye tryin' ta imply wit tha', LT?" The accent was getting thick as Soap got more excitable. "I'll have ye know ma tongue is quite strong..." You could've swore he gave you a wink at that. "Just cannae stand heat s'all."
"Hmm." A grunt was the lieutenant's only reply as he spooned some green paste onto the top of his chips before offering it to you. "Chutney? Gaz made some cilantro chutney to go with th' chips. Not bad with th' curry."
Your nose crinkled up at the offering, disgust plain on your face.
"No thanks. I'm one of those genetic weirdos where I got a gene that cilantro tastes like soap."
"Aye an' how d'ye know wha' I taste like, bonnie?" Soap hadn't skipped a beat, and his words brought a flush of red to your cheeks.
"You know that is NOT what I meant!"
Soap smirked at you from across the table and took a chip from his plate, putting some chutney on it and offering it to you.
"Ye keen to find out wha' I taste like, bonnie? Here, have a sample."
You'd finished most of your plate already and figured this was as good enough of a time to excuse yourself from dinner. As you washed your plate you could hear Gaz elbowing Soap in the side with a muffled "Oi now cut that out."
Once you got back to your quarters you just laid in bed staring up at the ceiling. You'd had a crush on each of the guys for different reasons, but you wondered if Soap had noticed. Granted, he was always a flirt when the team went out for some r&r at one of the local bars, but up until now you hadn't really thought of the man as interested in you.
A knock made you look up and you heard Soap's voice from the other side of the heavy door.
"I wanted to apologise, bonnie. Ye still awake?"
"Yeah. Door's unlocked, come in."
Soap stuck his head through the door with an expression you'd never seen on his face before. He looked sheepish and truly regretful as he walked in and shut the door behind him.
"I think I might've taken it a bit far tonight, bonnie. Ye seemed upset after dinner and I wanted ta make sure ye weren't mad at me an' all tha'."
That got a small chuckle out of you and you saw his lips quirk up in the slightest of smiles.
"Nah, we're good, Soap. I'm used to your jokes just, uh, caught me off guard a bit, yeah?"
"Oh? An' how's that?"
He had walked from the door to your bed and sat down at the edge, his hand resting on your thigh reassuringly, the gentle way he touched you made you think about what it would be like to have those hands on other parts of your body.
"Ah, well..." You weren't quite sure how to begin. But you knew the man responded well to blunt talk so you took your chances. "I might actually be interested in what you taste like..."
As your words trailed off you could swear Soap's grin couldn't get any bigger.
"Issat so, bonnie? Well perhaps I'm interested on seein' what ye taste like as well."
The fact that your feelings were reciprocated for him made your heart skip a beat even as you sat there in stunned silence. He had moved a bit closer, his larger frame looming over you.
"Jus' a lil taste, aye? Yer lips, my lips, see where this all goes?"
With a silent nod you leaned in to close the gap between your lips, locking together in a slow, sensual kiss as you felt his strong arms wrap around you. The world seemed to melt away as your tongues explored each other's mouths and truly tasted one another.
After what seemed like a blissful eternity he was the first one to pull away, that smirk on his lips once again as he lightly held your chin in his hand.
"Now tha' I ken what those lips a' yours taste like... how's about we go a little lower, aye?"
His free hand slid up the back of your shirt, unclasping your bra with a practiced ease while you nodded once again. God above you were going to get drunk off this man's treatment of you and you helped him help you to get out of your shirt and bra.
Once topless he pulled back and took a long look at you, letting out an impressed whistle.
"Did nae ken you had such a good body under that uniform, bonnie."
He didn't give you time to reply before his mouth found one of your nipples, teasing and sucking the sensitive nub while his hand gently rolled the other between his thumb and forefinger. Each moan that he managed to work from your lips made the hunger inside him grow and he let out a soft grown when your hands went up to his mohawk and gave it a tug.
"S-soap... I want more... I want to taste you too..."
Pulling away from your breast with an audible smacking of his lips he pressed back on your shoulders.
"Nae yet, bonnie. Dinner was nice but I want some dessert first."
As you laid back he pulled your sweatpants down and off your legs, tossing them aside to some forgotten corner of the room alongside your panties. Strong hands grabbed your thighs and pulled them apart so he could see your already slick cunt, ready and waiting for him. Even as much as he wanted to taste you he wanted to relish in the moment which meant kisses along your inner thighs accompanied by the occasional soft bite to the skin there that would make you whimper in need.
Finally, after he felt you'd been teased enough, he dove in for his treat. Soft lips surrounded your clit as he sucked on it gently, alternating between that and flicking against it with his tongue. Thick fingers slid inside and curled up to rub against your g-spot in time with his tongue.
With his face buried between your legs your hands desperately grabbed onto anything to give yourself leverage as you bucked your hips up against his mouth, finally settling on gripping his short hair to earn yourself another growl from him.
It didn't take him long at all to get you to the edge of climax, you could tell this man not only had experience but enjoyed the act of getting his partner off. Just as you were teetering on the edge he pulled his mouth away to look up at you as his fingers kept pumping in and out of you.
"Aye, tha's it. Good girl. Gonna cum for me, aye?"
And with that his face was back down between your legs and your vision went white as your orgasm finally hit, your moans and whines music to his ears as you rode his face through your climax. Only when the final aftershocks and twitches had worked through your system did he stop and pull away once more, wiping his mouth on his forearm.
"Now tha' I ken wha' ye taste like, bonnie, time for ye to taste me."
You watched as he took off his belt and pulled down his pants just enough to let his cock spring free. He wasn't massive but you knew that taking him in your mouth was going to be a test of your gag reflex for sure, still you matched his cocky grin with your own and crawled over to him as he lay there, idly stroking his length.
A drop of pre rolled down the head and you lapped that up first, finding that this kind of Soap had a better taste than you expected. You wanted more and soon you had your lips wrapped around his head, slowly taking more and more of him into your mouth.
"Christ, bonnie!" His hands rested on the back of your head, fingers clenching as you could tell he wanted you to go further down, to go faster, but you wanted to tease him just as he'd teased you. So you took it slow, tongue gliding along every inch of his throbbing shaft until you finally made it to the base. His hips rolled up to meet your mouth and you finally decided to give him what he wanted.
Your soft mouth was already getting him on edge, though he was fighting against his climax with all his strength. When you finally started to slide up and down his length he swore inwardly that you were going to suck the soul right out of him.
It wasn't just your mouth working him at this point; one hand worked his shaft to stroke it in time with your mouth while your other hand gently massaged his massive balls. They felt pent up and twitched with his growing orgasm until finally he managed to choke out.
"B-bonnie... I'm gonna..."
He couldn't finish his words as a low growl cut his sentence short as he filled your mouth with his warm seed. Rope after rope filled your mouth and you eagerly swallowed it all, paying him back in kind for the pleasure he'd given you.
You only pulled away when he'd started to go soft, both of you breathing heavy in the dim light of your room. Those strong arms of his grabbed you suddenly and brought you up to rest your head on his chest. Soap was an affectionate lover and showed it by peppering your head and face with gentle kisses between words of praise.
"Ye did great, bonnie. So good."
Finally he laid his head back with a sigh and a soft chuckle.
"You tasted amazing, bonnie, hope I managed t' taste even half as good as the heaven between yer legs."
With a satisfied lick of your lips you nodded against his chest.
"Yeah, could get used to having you as dessert more often, Soap."

His Brave Girl
Pairing - Tom Hiddleston x reader!
Summary - You are a NCA Investigator and have an ongoing case to rescue women and children that have been kept captive. The mission of course isn't as easy and can also prove to be life threatening. But with an incredibly supportive husband and a strong team, it doesn't seem all that impossible.
Warnings - blood, fighting, curse words, assault and harassment, mentions of death.
This was a light introduction to the story, things will surely get interesting soon. Hope you like it <33
The elevator dinged as the doors opened and you heaved a sigh before getting in and leaning your back against the wall, eyes closing briefly due to exhaustion.
"Does this thing get slower every day?" You muttered to yourself after getting off and pulled out the keys from your pocket while also holding the stack of papers in one hand.
You walked inside, placing the key in its usual place and dumping the sheets on the dining table with a loud thump.
"A new case then I take it?" Tom entered the living room, a small smile on his face on seeing you as he walked closer.
"Yeah," you couldn't help but smile yourself upon seeing his homely appearance. "Missed you today, love".
"Ditto darling," he whispered and wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close against his chest and breathing out heavily. "God was it tiring today," his face turned down a fraction before you kissed that frown off, making his lips twitch.
"It's okay," you murmured in his ear and played with the strands of hair on his neck, "I'm so proud of you".
He merely tightened his hold, glad that you had understood him so easily. No wonder he had known you were the one from the minute your relationship bloomed.
"Is it okay if we go out for dinner? I wanna take a walk with you," he pulled back, hands still on your waist as he stared into your eyes.
"Of course, Tom. Let me just get freshened up and we'll leave immediately," you kissed his cheek to quickly go and wash.
After a quick but soothing warm shower, you decided to wear a simple pair of black skinny jeans and a beige button down. Tying your hair in a ponytail and putting your phone in your back pocket you were ready to leave.
"Let's go then," you switched off the lights, him smiling appreciatively at your simple outfit as you two walked out, locking the door and then entwining your hands.
"Why didn't you put on a jacket? It's cold," he said the minute you stepped out in the dark.
"It's fine, Tom," you replied and he took your tangled fingers, placing them in the front pocket of his coat making you laugh. "So what's the current mood? Chinese or Indian?"
"Indian," the two of you said simultaneously and grinned at each other.
"I think you're starting to rub off on me," he chuckled and squeezed your hand. "My spice tolerance is quite high now".
"That's a pro of marrying an Asian, and especially an Indian, my dear," you said happily, swinging your hands like a child.
You entered the cozy Indian restaurant and ordered some starters, wanting a quick bite before moving on to the main course.
"What's the recent case about then, love?" He questioned, adding quite an amount of the spicy green chutney to his dish making you smirk.
"Oh recently we got the news that about 30 females, both girls and women have been abducted right from the streets, probably for slavery. So we gotta track those motherfuckers and play tit for tat," you said and he noticed your jaw clench with anger.
While Tom's heart sank. He was used to hearing such cases every other day, especially since his own wife was a crime investigator but it hurt him every damn time.
"Don't worry," you took his hand in your own, rubbing circles on the back. "We're gonna rescue them, every single one of them".
"I know you will. But still it just hurts, to know that every three days, somewhere in this country a woman dies, all because of violence. How do people even think of committing such sins, such atrocities?! The humanity is dying and it feels like nobody even cares anymore".
You pressed your lips together sympathetically, agreeing with every statement of his and just being so glad that you had such a passionate husband.
"I'm gonna do my best, we're gonna catch all of them and make them suffer," you said firmly and he nodded.
"I'm there with you through every step of the way," he said softly making you simply stare at his beautiful face before smiling widely.
The rest of the dinner was quite peaceful, with only small talks made here and there as you both actually enjoyed the silence.
"Ice cream?" He asked immediately once you stepped out of the restaurant.
"Sure," you laughed at his excited face and wrapped an arm around his torso and him swiftly pulling you close by the shoulders and pressing a kiss on your head.
You two were chatting, about his work, about your work. The past week had been quite busy. What with you attending meetings about the recent case and him shooting endlessly for the Night Manager.
"I really can't wait to see you all decked up in a suit on the big screen," you grinned, all giddy inside while he let out a noise of surprise.
"But you've seen me in a suit numerous times, that too right in front of your own eyes," he raised an eyebrow.
"You don't know the magic you show on the screen, Hiddleston. It makes me go insane," you said, turning a little red making him chuckle as he too blushed.
A sudden shout interrupted his next comment and you two stopped, frowning at each other before finding the source.
"Oh shit," you muttered and his eyes widened at the scene in front of him. There was a man, forcing his way on a young lady who looked no more than 20 years of age.
"Come on sweetheart," the creep said, a sinister smirk on his face as he pressed his forehead against her's, making her thrash uncomfortably.
A furious rage built up inside of you as you saw random citizens watching the scene with interest and not bothering to move a muscle.
And immediately your footsteps quickened as you almost sprinted forwards with Tom hit on your heels.
"Hold this," you pressed your phone into his hand and before he could utter another word, you had pulled your sleeves to your elbows and ripped the man off of the girl.
"Get away from her, asshole," you said, your voice deep and cold and your husband felt himself freeze upon seeing you in action.
"Uh yeah? And who the fuck are you to tell me to get off?" He said coyly. "You're a fiesty one, yeah? I like those type," he said and stepped closer daringly.
Tom had never before felt such violence inside him but he held himself, knowing you had the situation under control. You wouldn't want him to get in trouble, whereas you, you had legal permission.
"And I like catching people like you," you retorted, smirking and within a few seconds you had pinned him on the ground, your knee pressed to his chest as you lounged on him casually.
"You done now? Cuz me and my husband would really like to get some ice cream," your eyes narrowed and he groaned when you pressed down hard.
"You okay?" Tom went to the terrified young lady while also maintaining a respectful distance, knowing she must be scared.
She couldn't fathom anything and was shaking violently while he watched helplessly, not wanting to cross any boundaries at all.
So he resorted to words, "You're safe now, don't worry at all. My wife-" he gestured towards you, halting midway after noticing the criminal's awfully bleeding nose and your deathly expression and grimacing slightly.
"Um are you alright? Did he hurt you anywhere?" He asked again gently once she had calmed down.
"N- No he didn't," she shook her head and fixed her rumpled clothing. "You- You were just in time, thank you so much".
"Hey no, there's nothing to thank about," he smiled and they noticed a police car coming closer.
"There comes your ride," you said and pulled the grunting man to his feet. Your face shining with sweat and slight blood coating your right cheek.
"Goodness love," Tom muttered, wincing at his terrible state but looking hella proud at the same time.
"Aaron," you greeted your friend cheerfully, "A new parcel for you mate. You're welcome," you added when he raised his eyebrows at the assaulter's bloody face.
"Let's get going then, bastard," Aaron gripped him tighter and offered you a full salute and you nodded.
"One last thing," you said and stepped back making the others stare warily except for the officer who didn't bat an eye as you delivered a perfect side kick, breaking the man's jaw.
Aaron laughed as he turned towards Tom who had adorned an expression of shock, "Be careful there, I wouldn't want to get on her bad side. This one can really pack a kick".
"Wouldn't dream of it," your husband chuckled lightly making you roll your eyes as the man was dragged inside the car and off they went.
You finally turned to look at the still shivering but composed girl, "You okay darling?"
She didn't say anything and fell into your arms, her being considerably shorter compared to your rather tall figure. "T- Thank you," tears flowed down her cheeks. "I was so sure I was going to die right there".
"Hey," you said and rubbed her back with your left hand that was not stained with blood. "You're safe now though aren't you? That's all that matters".
She backed off, still sobbing and wiped her tears, looking at you with such gratitude that you yourself could feel your throat burning.
"Do you live close by?" You asked and when she nodded you offered to drive her home, knowing her mental state was sensitive.
"Here's my official card, I'm a NCA Investigator so you're safe with me," she nodded and you were glad to do so, wanting her to feel as secure as possible.
"Come on," Tom guided her softly and opened the back door as she got in and he seated himself in the passenger seat.
It took about five minutes to reach her home and you parked the car in the driveway, both of you getting away and stopping after noticing that Sofia hadn't even opened her door.
"Hey," he knocked on her window and she jumped, snapping out of her thoughts and got off upon noticing that she was home.
He went ahead and ringed the bell and was greeted by a warm middle aged woman who smiled but her expression soon turned shaky after taking in the state of her daughter and she shouted for her husband.
"Oh my darling," the father gasped and took his girl in his arms and she started crying again, emotions flowing out uncontrollably.
The two of you watched in silence, your hearts breaking at the exchange and praying to god for keeping everyone suffering through such horrible experiences safe.
"How can we ever thank you," the old lady walked towards you and took your hand in hers, silent tears running down her cheeks. "You saved my daughter's life. How can I possibly repay-"
"No no don't say such things," Tom interrupted her, embracing the woman and you noticed tears staining his face too making your heart clench.
"But really, thank you, both of you," Sofia's father said and pulled Tom in a hug and shook your hand.
"She's safe, and that's all that matters," you said softly before handing them a card. "This is a helpline number that works 24/7, just give a missed call whenever you feel threatened, though god forbid something would happen again".
The woman stepped closer to you and cupped your cheeks motherly making you stutter, "And you, take care of yourself, look after you wife," she adressed Tom who nodded with a smile. "You're out there putting your life in danger for the sake of others, but be mindful of your own too".
"Y- Yeah, I will," you swallowed the emotions and gave them a professional salute and a low bow before taking their leave.
The walk to the car and then the drive home was passed in complete silence, both understanding that it was a need.
Tom only switched on the dim, yellow lights, bathing the room in a warm glow before turning to look at you properly.
"Love?" He asked softly, standing in front of you and placing his palm on your cheek. "You're okay, aren't you?" His eyes scanned yours, eyebrows drawing in closer in worry.
"Yes, I'm okay. I deal with this pretty much everyday, you know".
"You've hurt yourself," he looked at your badly bruised knuckles as he examined them.
"I handle such things everyday too".
"But that doesn't mean it hurts less," he said simply and you nodded. "Carrying a certain weight every single day does not mean that it's not heavy".
"You're right".
"Oh c'mere," he opened his arms amd you fell into them gratefully, inhaling his familiar scent and trying to take to focus your mind. "You said to me earlier that you were proud of me. But honestly, my work doesn't even come close to yours. It's me who's really damn proud to call this wonderful, strong and brave woman; my wife".
"Yeah?" You looked at him with glistening eyes, pressing your lips together.
"Yes. Not everybody can even fathom the work you're doing. I'm your husband for God's sake amd know all about what you do. And yet you saw it for yourself how terrified I was in that situation".
"You are amazing, the most brilliant woman I've met and goodness am I so, so proud of you, my love," he touched his lips to your forehead tenderly. "I already love you more than anything, but somehow you made me fall even harder".
"I love you too," you whispered and buried yourself right in his embrace.

top 10 things i cooked in 2023
this year i made 104 unique recipes (plus lots of duplicates when i liked something enough to make it multiple times). the places i went to most for recipes were feasting at home + the NYT recipes app, although i very much liked the weekday vegetarians, love and lemons, cookie & kate, nora cooks, and the foodie takes flight.
my top 10, in no particular order:
NYT ricotta pasta with roasted broccoli and crispy chickpeas (super simple but a great yummy pasta to make real quick for friends. I roasted the broccoli instead of broiling and added lots of extra lemon zest, garlic, red pepper flakes, and a tray of oven-roasted chickpeas)
moroccan vegetable tagine (i blended a bunch of recipes but the one linked was my starting point. this is the one form i like butternut squash in lol. modifications: i went heavy on all the spices but especially the cinnamon and cardamom, added chopped dried apricots to the stew for extra sweetness, and threw in a bunch of extra veggies. yum)
indian-ish nachos with cheddar, black beans and chutney (do NOT skip the multiple chutneys and sauces. it will seem like too much work you will say can't i just make one and be done with it but those sauces are where the magic lies. the great tragedy of these nachos is that i wanted to eat them for DAYS but they do not reheat well. but godddd they were good)
ottolenghi's green pancakes with lime butter (these are SO easy. great for brunch but also make delicious additions to your lunch for a couple days after. also it's a perfect way to eat a pound of spinach and feel very virtuous about it when really you just ate delicious jalapeno-y scallion pancakes. the lime butter is great but it's a lot of work so i usually just top these with some sour cream mixed with a lil bit of lime zest & lime juice)
cauliflower shawarma with spicy tahini sauce (YUM! the tahini sauce as written was too bitter for me with the cholula mixed in. i think i'd try it with sriracha next time so it was a little sweeter. i also added chickpeas yum)
roasted cauliflower daal with chickpeas (my notes say this was "OUTTA THIS WORLD DELICIOUS" but also note that it will "really clean you out GI-wise" lol. lentils always have that effect on me though so ymmv. i added bell pepper, roasted the cauliflower first, cooked the lentils most of the way soft in the rice cooker instead of on the stove, and added two chopped serrano peppers with seeds to give it a lil extra kick. i would recommend halving the recipe if you are cooking for one as there were TONS of leftovers and my GI system could not handle being cleansed that many times lol)
pasta with corn, tomatoes, "onion-bacon," and basil (this method of preparing onions really should not taste like bacon and yet it sort of does????? this was a summer recipe i made multiple times for a range of audiences and it was a hit every time. originally from the weekday vegetarians)
creamy corn pasta (THIS HAS NO RIGHT BEING AS GOOD AS IT IS. IT'S SO SIMPLE AND YET IT'S THE BEST THING I'VE EVER TASTED I COULD EAT IT FOR DAYS. WE ATE IT ALL SUMMER)
ottolenghi's very full roasted veggie tart (it will take you hours to make and no time at all to consume but oh my god it's so good and SUCH a satisfying way to spend a long weekend afternoon. liz and i loved this so much we had to have a serious sitdown to discuss how we would divvy up the leftovers because we felt it could seriously damage our friendship if one of us ate all of it)
bombay burritos (the little sauces and things take a long time to make but you can prep a lot of the stuff a day or two in advance and gosh these are so tasty!! the curried mashed potatoes YUM)
honorable mentions:
ottolenghi's mango soba noodles (skip the eggplant i'd do tofu or something instead)
braised tofu with basil (i made this with a veggie-loaded stir fry and topped it with a fried egg)
this carrot cake (it took forever to make but it was the best carrot cake i've ever had and the only thing i'll ever make on my bday from here on out). she also has a pumpkin cake recipe that is so good and much simpler to make (no grating required)
momofuku's ginger scallion tofu with crispy coconut rice (the recipe is for a shrimp version but we made it with tofu and it was very yummy. i made this at a friend's house and it was so good i wanted to ask to take home some of the leftovers but decided that was too rude ahaha)
and then of course i gotta give a shoutout to my #1 comfort foods this year, SHAKSHUKA (my beloved) + a caprese sandwich with balsamic glaze served on really good bread.

⌦ .。 guys, the desis are at it again… .:*♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Pavitr Prabhakar x fem!Indian!Reader (Platonic!!) (Gwen, Miles and Hobie are there too)
Type: Oneshot - Fluff
Word count: 1.1k
Warnings: Usage of Hindi ig? (It’s all translated dw) Some cussing, Indian-British jokes and I think that’s it
A/N: I had this in my drafts for a while and only finished it now after eating the spiciest samosa I have ever had in my life so yay :D
I know it makes more sense for Pavi to be a strictly vegetarian Hindu considering how he got his powers, but here he eats chicken and mutton because some of the spiciest Indian dishes I’ve ever tried have meat in them (COUGH COUGH LAAL MAAS)
Also uh I hc that Pavitr’s middle name is Bhim after his uncle bc yk Peter has Benjamin so he has Bhim
Tumblr media
“How the hell are you doing this?!”
Gwen forfeited by chugging a glass of water after a bite of the biriyani, joining Miles on the couch where he was still wheezing slightly, his eyes watering and throat burning from the spice.
“They’re bloody insane, Gwendy. They’re Indian and they ‘ave a spice tolerance that could put dragons to shame. Wha’ d’ya expect?” Hobie, sprawled precariously on the edge of the sofa arm, stole a piece from the bowl of butter chicken that lay forgotten on the side, gleefully watching you two. He had done the smart thing and quit fairly early into the round, before the food actually got spicy.
You faced off from Pavitr across the coffee table, sitting cross-legged and eating a bowl of the spiciest biriyani you both had ever tasted. You could see small tears pricking the corner of his eyes. You were almost tempted to call him a coward, but you figured that wouldn’t go so well since you could feel your eyes watering too.
See, if he hadn’t challenged you to a spice-tolerance taste test contest then this wouldn’t be happening. He could’ve kept quiet while you accidentally choked on a samosa and not assumed it was from the spice level (which wasn’t even that high), but noooo. He had to make a comment about how he could take more spice than you could.
So, technically, this whole thing was his fault.
And that was why you both were kneeling at a coffee table in Maya Aunty’s house, stuffing your faces with the spiciest foods you could find. So far, you had gotten through Maya Aunty’s saag paneer and dal makhani without any rice, which would have been a feat in itself… to anyone less competitive.
Hell, you had even gotten through dhansak and vindaloo without batting an eyelid, much less reaching for a glass of water. But for some reason a single bowl of this damn mutton biriyani was making both of you sniffle like sick kittens.
“Didi, I’m going chutney you,” Pavitr gritted his teeth and forced down another bite of the biriyani. You copied his movements, feeling the masala burn in your throat as you swallowed. (Didi means sister, usually a term of respect for someone you consider a sister and they’re older than you)
“Hei bhaghvaan, apni chachi ne ismain kya rakha?” (Oh God, what did your aunt put in this?) You coughed slightly and Pavitr dropped his forehead onto the table, groaning slightly like he was dying. Which, in all honesty, didn’t feel that far from the truth.
“I don’t know! All I know is that biriyani isn’t supposed to be this spicy!”
“‘Ey, Miles. ‘Ow much you wanna bet that Pavitr folds first? ‘E’s practically turnin’ red, isn’t ‘e - y’alright, bruv?” Hobie smirked down at you both, his border flickering. You snorted in amusent then immediately regretted it since some of the masala was now caught in your nose and oh, good grief, you could feel it burning.
Pavitr glared up at him. “You’re one to talk, Hobes. Didn’t you quit when we just started off? Arre, poor little Britisher couldn’t take the heat? Angrezi log ham jaise masale nahi kha sakhte.” (English/British people can’t eat spices like we can)
Hobie raised an eyebrow as Pavitr bit down on a green chilli that had been mixed into the rice and doubled over, tears streaming out of his eyes.
“Maybe it’s best if you call it a draw? I mean-” Miles shut his mouth quickly when you turned to glare at him.
“I’m not stopping till Pavitr Bhim Prabhakar admits that I can eat more spice than him.” You emphasised his middle and last name, narrowing your eyes as Pavitr weakly flipped you off without lifting his head.
Hobie chuckled softly. “Fuckin’ ‘ell, Pavi, she’s bringin’ in the full name. Take it from me, mate, you’re screwed when she does tha’.”
“Shut up before I use your full name,” You warned, turning your wrathful gaze on him. “We both know you wouldn’t want me to do that.”
His eyes widened and he mimed zipping his lips and tossing the key away. Miles looked at you curiously, tilting his head to the side. “Wait, what’s Hobie’s full name?”
“Funny you should ask, Kilometer Morality,” Pavitr muttered under his breath, his forehead still resting on the table. You had learnt about half an hour ago that when Pavitr got a spice overload he tended to make random “snarky” quips which usually didn’t make any sense.
“Yeah, I’m gonna go get some ice cream for when this thing blows up,” Gwen got up from the couch, giving Pavitr a sympathetic pat on the shoulder and moving to the kitchen.
“Wimp,” You muttered to Pavitr as a tear rolled down your cheek. Forget burning, your tongue was almost going numb from the sheer amount of masala that you were trying to ingest.
“Weakling,” He countered as a bead of sweat trailed down the side of his forehead. You shovelled another spoon of the biriyani into your mouth, relief flooding you as the spoon hit the bottom of the bowl. Good, you had almost finished. But would you make it that far?
Pavitr tentatively took a bite and immediately choked, giving in and reaching for one of the two bowls of curd sitting appetisingly in the centre of the table. He was essentially tapping out.
You threw your arms in the air triumphantly, almost giddy with victory. Actually, maybe that was from the spice. Yep, definitely the spice.
You downed the bowl of curd, letting out a long sigh of relief as the cold, thick liquid dowsed your tongue and took the initial edge of the buildup of spice away. Gwen returned just in time to see Pavitr and you lapping at the curd as if you were a pair of stray cats, like the ones you both faithfully fed and played with.
“I take it you won?” She asked you, her eyes sparkling a little bit in amusement as she saw Pavitr drop his head down onto the table the moment he properly realised that he had lost. She slid two cups of vanilla ice cream to you. A little basic, maybe, but still good and definitely a relief to your mouth.
“Barely,” You admitted, taking a small spoon from her. “Arre, Pavi. Don’t feel bad. Hum donon ne apana sarvashreshth prayaas kiya, naa? C’mon, sit up.” (We both tried our best, right?)
“Haan, Didi,” He grumbled sulkily, lifting his chin as you fed him the ice cream from his bowl. (Haan just means yes)
“Let’s do something else. Should we get Hobie to pronounce the names of these foods?”
“Oh, sure, throw the British guy under the bus,” Hobie protested, but a fond smile was tugging at the corner of his mouth as Pavitr chuckled softly.
“To be fair, you are in Mumbattan right now,” You pointed out, and Hobie heaved an exaggerated sigh, a grin already forming on his mouth as he prepared to butcher the pronunciations on purpose to get a reaction out of you and cheer up Pavitr.
“Fair enough. Alrigh’… That’s, uh… that’s sag panner, and that’s…”

Recipe #2
Savory Veggie Pancakes: A Healthy and Delicious Breakfast
If you're looking for a healthy, flavorful, and satisfying breakfast, my savory veggie pancakes are the perfect option. Packed with fresh vegetables, protein, and spices, these pancakes are quick to whip up and incredibly versatile. Pair them with cilantro chutney, yoghurt tahini sauce, ketchup for a wholesome meal you’ll love starting your day with!
Ingredients:
- Gram flour (If you can't get gram flour, you can use oat flour, rice flour, whole wheat flour or just make the gram flour at home bruh!!)
- Carrots, shredded
- Onions, thinly half sliced
- Spinach, roughly chopped
- Cabbage, shredded
- Tomatoes, thinly half sliced
- Zucchini, shredded
- Green chili, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
- Spice mix of your choice
- Salt, to taste
- 1-2 eggs (for binding and fluffiness)
- Butter or ghee for cooking
- Cheese (optional, but delicious if you love cheesy goodness!)
To Serve:
- Yoghurt tahini sauce
- Cilantro chutney or your favorite sauce
- Tomato ketchup
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Batter:
In a large bowl, add gram flour and gradually mix in water until you achieve a smooth pancake batter consistency. It should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon but still pourable.
2. Add the Egg:
Crack 1 or 2 eggs into the batter and whisk until well combined. The eggs help bind the veggies and add fluffiness to the pancakes.
3. Prep Your Veggies:
Shred the cabbage, carrots, and zucchini. Slice the onions and tomatoes, and finely chop the green chili. Roughly chop some fresh spinach leaves for added nutrients and texture.
4. Mix It All Together:
Add all the chopped veggies into the batter, stirring until everything is evenly distributed. Season with salt and your preferred spice mix.
5. Cook the Pancakes:
Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat and add a small amount of butter or ghee. Once the butter is melted, spoon the pancake batter onto the pan, shaping it into round pancakes.
6. Cook to Perfection:
Cook on low heat until the edges start to firm up, then flip. Increase the heat slightly and cook both sides until crispy and golden brown. If you're adding cheese, sprinkle some on top before the final flip so it melts beautifully.
7. Serve:
Once your pancakes are golden and crispy, cut them into pizza-like slices for fun and easy eating. Serve with your favorite cilantro chutney, yoghurt tahini sauce or ketchup for dipping.
Tips:
- You can make these ahead of time and store them in the fridge. Just reheat on the pan when you're ready to enjoy them.
This savory veggie pancake recipe is not only healthy but also incredibly satisfying. Whether you’re in a rush or want a leisurely weekend breakfast, this dish hits the spot every time. Let me know how you like it, and feel free to tweak it with your favorite veggies!

Himalayan Heartbeats: The Ultimate Manali Adventure with Yolo Backpackers
Yolo Backpackers became my entryway to the unadulterated magic of the Himalayas, tucked away in the center of Old Manali, where the pine trees sway like drunken poets and the Beas River hums lullabies. This is your unvarnished guide to climbing mountains, seeking exhilarating experiences, and enjoying hearty mountain cuisine without breaking the bank.
Tumblr media
🗻 Three Adventures That Changed My Soul
Hampta Pass: A World-to-World Gateway From the green slopes of Kullu to the lunar wastes of Lahaul, this 6-day hike is a metamorphosis. It was like entering a National Geographic magazine cover where snow leopards (figuratively) whisper secrets as you crossed the 14,065-foot pass. Licenses? For guided trips, it's simple with a photo ID and ₹5,000–15,000. Expert advice: Get used to Jobra's meadows, which are like nature's yoga classroom.
2. Jogini Falls: The Tears of the Mountain This walk runs through apple orchards guarded by cheeky monkeys and is a 4-kilometer hike from Vashisht Village. The mist and the 160-foot waterfall crash like a drumroll. It's like taking a cold shower in the Himalayas. In order to avoid Instagrammer, start early.
3. Trekking Through Time in Malana Village Malana, a five-hour climb from Jari, is like stepping into a different reality. According to legend, its citizens are sprung from Alexander's soldiers. Spoiler alert: They have legendary hashish, but be mindful of their traditions—the people here preserve them like dragons treasure gold.
🚀 5 Excursions to Spark Your Inner Rebel
Overseas Paragliding in Solang Valley At 8,500 feet, soar like a Himalayan griffon! While Bir Billing, which is three hours away, is for thrill-seekers who want 30-minute flights, Solang offers tandem flights (₹1,200–2,500) that allow you to defy gravity.
Skiing in the Winter Wonderland of Solang Solang becomes Narnia in December and February. Carve slopes where the snow gleams like broken diamonds by renting equipment (₹1,500–3,000). The Winter Ski Festival is Coachella for snow bunnies, so don't miss it.
Rohtang Pass: Where the Sky Meets the Roads You can explore up to Marhi, but as of April 2025, the pass is closed (it reopens in mid-May). Permits are from ₹500 to ₹1,000; you can risk the 42 hairpin turns on a bike or rent a shared taxi for ₹1,500. Expert advice: Carry oxygen cans; the effects of altitude are more severe than a breakup.
Ziplining & ATV Rides in Solang Take an ATV ride (₹1,200–1,500) or zipline above valleys where eagles dare to go and unleash your inner Fast & Furious. Bonus: The sights from the ropeway trip are so clear you'll wonder if your phone's camera is working properly.
Chandratal Lake: The Mirror of the Moon Camp next to this crescent-shaped lake after passing across Hampta Pass. The stars here, at 14,100 feet, dance instead of twinkling.
🍲 The Culinary Symphony of Manali
Johnson's Cafe serves siddu, which are ghee-drenched fluffy wheat buns filled with walnuts. Serve with apricot chutney—Gramma's hug. Fresh from the Beas and smoked over deodar wood, trout are served at Riverside Dhabas. Enjoy it with a Kingfisher beer, as fish are also entitled to happy hours. The unofficial anthem of the Himalayas is Maggi at Old Manali Cafes. Try the Cafe 1947 version, which has more soul and cheese.
📅 How to Ball on a Budget & When to Go
Best Time: December–February for snow; March–June for treks. If you don't like highways turning into noodle soup, stay away from the July–August rain. Hacks for the Budget: Spend the night at Yolo Backpackers (₹200) and share stories around bonfires. Consume street food: ₹500 pizzas > ₹50 momos. Channel your inner Easy Rider by renting a Royal Enfield for ₹1,500 per day.
Schedule of the Keylong-Manali Bus
HRTC buses (₹250, 6 hours) travel from Manali to Keylong five times a day (4 AM–12 PM). Your best bet is the 5:09 AM HIMDHARA AC bus, which has cozy seats and fewer stops. Make a reservation online at HRTC's website or RedBus.
P.S. Please share your story if you see a diary beneath Yolo's oak tree. Like pebbles, stories are gathered by the mountains; yours could become folklore. 🌿 Yolo Backpackers is waiting for you with ghee on your plate, wind in your hair, and a heart full of Himalayan whispers. 🏔️

Ingredients for Vegetable Poha

1 small carrot (grated)
¼ cup green peas (boiled)
1 small potato (finely chopped, optional)

2 tbsp peanuts (roasted)
1 tbsp oil
Salt to taste
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Poha
Rinse the thick poha in water twice and drain well. Let it sit for 5 minutes to soften.
Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, sugar, and salt to the soaked poha and mix well.
Step 2: Cook the Vegetables
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
Add curry leaves, green chilies, and peanuts, sauté for 30 seconds.
Add chopped onions and cook until they turn soft and translucent.
Add potatoes, carrots, and peas, and cook for 3-4 minutes.
Step 3: Combine Everything
Add the prepared poha mixture and mix gently.
Cover and let it cook on low heat for 2-3 minutes.
Turn off the heat and add lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves.
Mix well and serve hot.
Pro Tips for Perfect Vegetable Poha
Use thick poha to prevent it from turning mushy.
Rinse lightly – Over-washing will make it soggy.
Roast peanuts separately for extra crunch.
Adjust spice levels as per your preference.
Serving Suggestions
Serve hot with a cup of chai or coffee.
Pair with yogurt or coconut chutney for a South Indian twist.
Add a sprinkle of sev on top for extra crunch.

Dinner Recipe: Salmon and Vegetables
Tumblr media
TIME: ★★★✰
PRICE: ★★✰✰
EASE: ★★★✰
CLEANUP: ★★★✰
There is a WIDE scope to salmon and veg recipes. Salmon, at least where we are, is a little on the pricier side, but we love it and the doc said it was good for our eyes so we ran with that as an excuse, LOL!
We are constantly looking for a variety of ways to cook and dress salmon. I believe these recipes would generally work for both frozen and fresh fillets, with some minor modifying.
It's a super quick thing to serve these with a handful of salad greens, but our go-to is broccoli! I made a short blurb on how we like to prepare broccoli in a tasty way! The different recipes could range between 20-40 minutes, depending on which one you're making!
Cast Iron Salmon (DishNTheKitchen)
Tumblr media
Crispy Honey Orange Glaze Salmon (CafeDelights)
Tumblr media
Salmon with Apple Fig Chutney (WhatJewWannaEat)
Tumblr media
Lemon Basil Pesto Salmon (JarOfLemons)
Tumblr media
I don't have photos of these recipes but I have made them and they're very tasty!
Brown Sugar Soysauce Salmon (Key to My Lime) This is one of our go-to salmon recipes! Very classic and tasty!
Parmesean Crusted Salmon (Cooking Classy) Recently made this and it was a really nice change of pace with texture and flavor! Highly recommend it if you like parm!
We also enjoy making Salmon Bowls. Just dig up some veg we have lying around and serve it with salmon over rice. Below we had avocados, mukimame, cucumbers, carrots, and mandarin oranges over rice with some orange glaze salmon!

HYPERIA [She/they/it]
Name(s): The Fearless, The Exodus, Adeline
Nickname(s): Perry
Likes: Forgery, psychology, birds, soldering, making stained glass art, Flirtatious behaviour, cheekiness, yellows, greens, mellow shades of colours, independence, exploring new tastes and places, learning, chutney, instrumentals, orchestras, poetry
Dislikes: being restricted, being uncertain, sea urchins, jelly fish, the quiet, baths, "Quiet days", beach holidays, being unactive, not having a reading list, maximalism, anything too minimalist.
Personality: An active thrill seeker, Adeline was known that she would be something truly confident from a young age. She goes to clubs, woos people (of all genders) as much as they woo her. She almost handles flirting like a sport, not anything genuine but an art she has down to a science.
However, when she finds an anchor, she unwittingly lets it completely stump her. She has bad days and months were she may become reliant on an ideal and however it presents itself. If this is challenged, she will dig her feet. She has to come to terms on her own, which she usually does.
She doesn't mind pain and has a relatively high pain tolerance, but the sight of a wound can make her queasy. This just makes her very fidgety, but she can still deal with first aid, its just a lot less enthusiastic.
Abilities: Can sense and alter the nature of a person's existence and experience. As she hasn't been around for long, she isn't very accurate and finds it rather difficult, but she is learning. This usually represents itself as spheres of various kinds, colours and vibrancies. Only she can see those Shrimp Colours that make it all come together.
Also higher resistance to heat and bacteria.
Abnormal physical features: Abnormally pale skin, her eyes and hair look like gold, she has small wings in place of ears.
Backstory: She was always the rambunctious sort, always going out of her way to find a cheap thrill. As a teen this presented as always chasing the high of the start of a relationship of any sort. The feeling of so many new possibilities and potential connections. But she never felt comfortable enough to settle with a friend group or a partner.
As she got older, finished college, started applying to jobs, as her world changed in massive ways every few months, she allowed herself to hold onto this "new" partner she'd had for a year. He kept her anchored, he would always let her know when a job opportunity was too far, or if a house was not roomy enough for when they would have kids, or that it was ridiculous to completely rule out having kids because "feelings change" and he wanted a bloodline.
He kept her anchored, but her sister would always be there to be the wind in her sails. And, funnily enough, she would keep dropping the weirdest questions about her partner. Why was that trip to that dormant volcano refused? Well, because I'm stupid, didn't realise how dangerous it was. Silly mistake, right?
And her sister kept prodding, until she dragged Adeline out by her ankles to go on a night out with the sister's friends. And they proper shat on her boyfriend. It was only then Adeline actually listened, and realised she should keep an eye out for his behaviours. She started documenting "Weird" stuff he'd say and posting it anonymously to online forums. Everyone was just telling her to break up with him.
So after her longest relationship of 4 years, she decided to go through. Her sister would wait outside in her car, willing to let Adeline stay in her house in Staines until she could get on her feet again. The breakup went relatively well, and Adeline walked out with the weirdest feeling of freedom mixed with directionless floating.
She walked out of the house, away from all her history and forging equipment, and felt lighter for the first time in years. she went to the car, and let herself move on.
But, that's when she started seeing the lights.
Funnily enough, ending a relationship, loveless or not, that had been going on for almost a decade tended to cause symptoms such as depression. She laid on her sister's couch for hours, eating what was laid in front of her and then napping. But those lights.
They were little spheric things, with no core. Like a very, very bright firefly. And they had a kind of lure to them, one that called for her to stand up and follow.
And one day, after staring at them for a few months, she decided to follow. She only had her PJs on, but couldn't be bothered to change. It wasn't a particularly hot or chilly night, so she would be fine in what she was wearing with some flats thrown on her feet.
She followed it onto the weird island that had heaps of local legends stirring within, she had seen the rumours that the serial murderers that stirred the small community actually lived there, but the police refused to go in. There had been limited reports of death from within that area, so she did just cross the bridge.
She didn't actually meet anyone when she went in, the plant led her to a small pond and submerged itself. And once more, bracing against the cold, she followed.
When she eventually made contact, she felt warm, like molten lava nestled into her very bones. It wasn't painful; it felt right.
And she came out different. Then, and only then, did she run into two strangers, lingering behind a warehouse. They had been watching (well, one was watching and relaying it to the other guy, who was blind) the entire time, and were just as confused. However, they did have some answers, starting with the fact she had probably just died. And she would probably have to withdraw from society now.
And Adeline, thinking these two people clearly had some sort of idea of what happened, quickly ran home with newfound energy, left a note for her sister, changed clothes, and planned her new name, her new identity.
Enter stage left, Hyperia.
Current residency: near Sawyer's warehouse.
ASKS: OPEN.
