In the alternate universe of Dead by Daylight, Shen Jiu and Cale are known to be the survivors who, unwittingly, act in a sacrificial manner, completely oblivious to their companions' concern for their own safety. Despite their reckless tendencies, they feel deeply offended when other team members suggest distraction tactics or personal sacrifice, especially if they find themselves in compromising situations during the game.

"Have they lost their minds?" Cale asked, his voice laden with disbelief and his eyes exuding serious disapproval towards their companions.

"What makes them think that risking their lives in such a way is a good idea?" Shen Jiu added, standing next to the redhead, raising an eyebrow in a questioning gesture. He crossed his arms over his chest, adopting the stance of a disappointed teacher in front of a group of mischievous students. "You can't just throw yourselves into action without thinking of the consequences"

Illyana, Penelope, and Rudbeckia were left blinking, astonished at the hypocrisy of the men before them.

'But you are the first to throw yourselves into danger without thinking twice!' Penelope had to bite her tongue to not say out loud what was screaming in her mind, maintaining an expression of regret while internally struggling with the urge to shake them into reason.

'Don't you remember that just two games ago you died in the most absurd way possible, trying to give us time to escape?' Illyana nodded in apparent agreement with the reprimand they were receiving, although inside she was torn between disbelief and the desire to hit them with the bat she had found to give them a 'gentle' reminder of their own recklessness.

'You're supposed to be the brightest strategists on the team! Where has this shared foolishness come from?' Rudbeckia, for her part, couldn't contain a groan of frustration, imagining herself tying both men with a rope and dragging them across the map until they managed to repair the generators and escape from the killer, thus avoiding the multiple heart attacks they caused her every time one of them threw themselves in front of the killer when the opportunity arose.

Symbols:

For The Dragon's Call, the top two are supposed to look like two sides of an old style coin that was stamped with the symbols that appear on Excalibur in the show. The bottom two are chains in reference to Kilgharrah (and something something the chains of destiny and knowing how it "should be" or smthing...)

Valiant was a little harder, not as much to pull from. So it gets crossed swords for the tournament that's taking place, with the dog statue's head as the bottom symbols.

On the same train of thoughts: Why has everybody forgotten about the "Lady tames dragon?"

Everybody remembers the "Lady tames the unicorn". Everybody remembers it, everybody references it, every uses it.

But for dragons nowadays it is just "Knight/hero slays the dragon". Not to say there are no examples of "ladies of dragons" in modern day fantasy. In fact "lady taming the dragon" or "vanquishing the dragon" has been used a lot recently (glares are Game of Thrones, among others), but it has been used as a subversion of the "male knight slays the dragon" and people think the idea of a powerful woman making dragons her pet/ally is some sort of modern-day invention.

It is not. Ladies taming dragons, making a leash out of a ribbon and promenading the man-eating monster as if it was a little dog is OLD, it is traditional, it is a deep part of folklore. But people just... sort of blurred it out?

In fact it is so ironic that before the common things were "Lady tames dragon, man slays the unicorn", and then popular culture immortalized forever the reverse gender opposition, a man has to slay the dragon, a lady has to tame the unicorn. Yes, it is part of the tradition, but it was not the only part. The reverse was also very true.

Beware the dormant bookworm instincts!

I just read 250 pages of a book in one sitting.

Why did I stop there? Because it was the end of the book...

Somehow I think this was made possible by the Shakespeare readings of Julius Caesar I took part in last month, longer periods of focus on text with no outside distractions. Thanks @socialshakespeare!!!

The book was on the Marie Kondo method. I'd started cleaning and decluttering years of stuff a little over 2 weeks ago, I'm far from done, and remembered just a few hours ago on my way to the library that it had a copy.

I guess the bottom line is... I should totally (take a) stab (at) what doesn't spark joy! 🔪

Rudbeckia, the endearingly obsessive and clingy girlfriend, had a knack for turning every trial in the foggy realm of Dead by Daylight into a full-blown melodrama. Her target? The stunning, enigmatic Illyana, who was the epitome of calm and patience (Qualities that Rudbeckia seemed to lack entirely).

Picture this: The trial begins, and the Entity’s fog envelops the macabre landscape. The generators hum ominously, and the survivors scatter like startled rabbits. But not Rudbeckia. Oh no, she’s too busy mooning over Illyana, her "precious, spectacular, and drop-dead gorgeous" girlfriend (Yes, those are Rudbeckia’s actual words. She’s not one for subtlety).

Now, Shen Jiu and Penelope—bless their souls—have the unenviable task of keeping Rudbeckia from going full-on apocalyptic. You see, when Illyana is in danger, Rudbeckia transforms into a Shakespearean tragedy waiting to happen. Her battle cry? "I shall reduce this realm to ashes, slay all who dare harm Lyna, and then dramatically end my own existence!" (She’s got the flair for drama, that one).

But wait, there’s more! Enter Cale, the resident idiot friend. He’s the guy who inexplicably cheers Rudbeckia on. Why? Because he secretly enjoys watching her unravel. It’s like reality TV, but with more blood and less dignity. Cale’s motto: "When life gives you a deranged girlfriend, grab some popcorn and enjoy the chaos".

And chaos there is. Rudbeckia loses her composure whenever an actual killer—especially Michael Myers—dares to breathe within a five-mile radius of Illyana. It’s as if Rudbeckia’s sanity meter drops faster than a survivor vaulting a pallet (Spoiler alert: She usually ends up dying in hilariously stupid ways because she insists on confronting these killers. Yes, even her ex-brother Myers, who seems to harbor a grudge against Illyana. But Rudbeckia? She’s convinced Myers is just trying to woo her beautiful Lyna. Talk about sibling rivalry).

Meanwhile, Illyana remains the serene lighthouse in the storm. When Rudbeckia inevitably bites the dust (Again), they both wake up in the Entity’s cozy cabin. Illyana never contradicts her lovable lunatic of a girlfriend. Instead, she showers Rudbeckia with kisses and soothing cuddles. It’s like a post-trial spa day, except with more bloodstains and fewer cucumber slices.

And then there’s Shen Jiu, the voice of reason (Or so he thinks). As he watches Rudbeckia’s antics, he contemplates his life choices. Why, oh why, did he end up with this motley crew? What karmic debt did he accrue in a past life to deserve friends who make the Entity itself raise an eyebrow?

🔞 If y'all can't already tell based off Part 1 of Beast of Sunagakure, I am-

a big balls Gaara truther. I am 100% in the camp of belief he's got them big heavy breeder balls and no one can convince me otherwise. Is it influenced by his tanuki association and how tanuki are often depicted with huge nuts? Maybe. Is it also influenced by his vibes? Definitely.

I could go into deeper detail and add that Gaara isn't even aware he's got big ones. He doesn't really have frame of reference to know since he didn't really participate in community baths or sneakily get peeks at porn like others. Seeing naked bodies other than his own wouldn't have happened often if at all, leaving him to think he must be average....until someone finally helps him empty them out- 💥

Anyhow, it's Team Big Balls Gaara™ in this house if that wasn't already clear.

"Furthest Star"- YES YES ABSOLUTELY YES. Hrnghhh I'm such a sucker for astronomy imagery, so between that and the Sunseam love, I fear I might be slightly biased toward this one. BUT OH MY GOD THAT IS THEM!!! Defying all the powers of fate and the men who have hurt them, not giving those powers any more energy and instead choosing to find their own space with only their love and joy? AUGH YES

"Firebird"- DUDE YOU HAVE COOKED TOO MUCH WITH THESE SONGS /pos. SunSeam as a phoenix is possibly the most perfect metaphor for them! I especially love how this song is all about rising from the ashes while still carrying the weight and meaning of those ashes with you; because a lot of the beauty of SunSeam comes from their ability to connect over their trauma and acknowledge how their past shaped them, yet still grow into more than their past pain.

"Theodora"- ooh ok I miiight be reading this song wrong, buuut I think there's an interpretation there of "a girl I've been trying to remember / My whole life though I never had met her / Until I met you" as finding similar pieces of yourself in a person you've just met, someone so intimately familiar yet excitingly different. So y'know, the joy of connecting over parallel pain and personality, while also discovering new pieces of yourself and this new love. So y'know, SunSeam. GOD this one is so tender too, a perfect little song of hope and warmth for these girls <3

"Those Who Sojourn"- actually? I don't think you're stretching that much. You could interpret the "sojourn" as the short "stay" both Bella and Yellow had in life, the quickly cut-off chance they each had to be their own before other people forced them into being someone they were not. But in the end, they still "own the land" because they still find a way to live outside of those who originally "owned the land" (had control over Bella and Yellow), and they create their own fates and determine their own endings.

"Scars"- SCREAMING SOBBING AT THIS ONE :'( "Was I born with a hole in my heart? / A fatal fault at the start / Tell me it's inevitable that I end up with scars" AUGHHH OK, both of these girls have always been treated like they were lesser and a burden. Yellow *obviously* with Arthur, who always compared her to John and reminded her that she would never live up to that impossible standard. And Bella? Also Arthur (love ya but hate ya buddy). I know we never technically see this in canon, but with the way Arthur dismissively talks about Bella (see the whole 'I don't feel guilty about her death, just my daughter' scene in 31), I refuse to believe that he didn't convey his resentment and disinterest to her-- whether through words, actions, or attitude. Honestly, to both Arthur and Daniel, Bella was less of a person and more of an inconvenience that they had to "deal with". So for both her and Yellow, it really was inevitable that they would end up damaged and frustrated, "nothing could have been done." OR, as this song questions, "Is that right?" Something absolutely could have been done-- these men could have been better, could have lead with love instead of resentment. But they didn't, which leaves Yellow and Bella to question if they really were born to be damaged and discarded

"Predator"- Ough yeah, this one for them </3 Both of them were abused/neglected, and not just by one person. Yellow got trapped under Arthur's pain, and then when she "moved on" to another man (Larson), she just ended up in the same powerless position. The same with Bella-- she was trapped under Daniel's control, and when she tried to escape to Arthur, she was still just as controlled by social standards and the needs/wants of men around her.

"Take Me to War"- LET WOMEN GET MEAN!! LET THEM BE ANGRY AND MESSY YES!!! I think it's especially great the singer of this song acknowledges how they are seemingly weaker than their oppressor ("There are no stones at my disposal") but they nonetheless will rage against those controlling powers ("But I keep snapping at Goliath's hands / With all of my tiny might") until they win. It's the refusal to be weakened, it's letting the fire of your anger stoke your "meak" words and actions hot enough to burn off the steel ropes holding you down. It's SunSeam baby :)

"Time Will Change You"- THIS IS IT THIS IS EVERYTHING SUNSEAM IS ABOUT OH MY GOD I'M CRYING <3 SunSeam is all about knowing the "roots" where you grew from, knowing that they were your home and the ground originally that raised you. And it's about knowing that those roots are too small to hold all the strength and beauty within you, knowing that that dirt is unhealthy and has never nor never will nourish you in the way that you need or deserve. It's about leaving behind those roots that once were everything to you, and realizing that there is an entire forest beyond that space. It's about exploring that forest without anything to hold you underground like before, and finding a new glade to live in, one which welcomes you with kind grass and loving soil. It's about planting yourself in a new home, a new chance, a new life. It's about growing into something taller, healthier, happier, and more beautiful than anything you could ever imagined before

there's something about lu, in terms of being an individual with layers and layers of masks, that makes me really sad because the thing with most people with masks is that there's usually something underneath it. her? not really. to elaborate. we understand fundamentally the concept of no one's ever born bad, but simultaneously, nobody's born good either, because you haven't even done anything as a child. you just ... were. this puts lu in a rather strange position where, at least in dc, when raised as a person and eventually evaluated psychologically, the psychiatrists concluded that she just is. no good, no bad, no real sense of self—merely a mimicry of the toddlers all around her. not particularly happy or upset about anything. her sense of self and personality doesn't develop after years and years of effort from her family and friends. even then, there's always something a bit more hollow about her. less human and more beast, more feral, not fully understanding humanity and what all it entails, including emotions. she'll play the part required, sure, but she won't be able to tell you what she is if you ask. she'd like someone else to tell her one day. still not too sure if she wants to hear that answer, though.
