Hunger Games Fandom Rant
I feel like some people use that Haymitch quote from Catching Fire "you could live a hundred life times and never deserve that boy" to be weirdly misogynistic to Katnisses character
Because Haymitch sees a lot of himself in Katniss, and in this moment, he is projecting. It's not about Katniss in this scene he's projecting his own thoughts and feelings. PLUS, love is not about being deserving of the other person it's about choosing to love that person for who they are
With that, the fandom can be misogynistic to Katniss. Is that they say " he's too good for her," "she doesn't care about Peeta at all," etc
And it's like Katniss is a teenage girl in poverty, lost her dad, had to provide food for her family, volunteered to save her sister, gone though traumatic events in the games and now Snow is trying to kill her by forcing her back into the arena again.
She's does care about Peeta but she's not going to care for him all the times she needs to think about her sister, her mother, Gale (who has been her best friend for years and has helped her family survive) and most importantly her role as the Mockingjay.
Katniss has enough on her plate she's not entirely focused on love as she sees survival as important, and that's all she's ever known. AND ALSO Katniss has done things for Peeta aswell she's not selfish at all she's just a teenage girl.

being team peeta is not enough, I need to hate Gale
Okay so my friend is all like "yeah I'm team Peeta but I feel kinda bad for Gale. he loved Katniss and he had to watch her be with someone else" OKAY AND?!?!? she doesn't like you. move on. She survived the Hunger Games, so be grateful she's alive. And don't even get me started (actually do get me started) on the whole "mocking Jay - Capitol bombing - "didn't know Prim was going to be there" - incident" - HE KNEW THERE WOULD BE OTHER CHILDREN?! he knew what he was doing when he designed those bombs. You could argue that he was just getting revenge, but the whole point of THG and the revolution started by Katniss was that they hated what the Capitol was doing to children, and would never swoop down to their level. I'm not saying Gale was as bad as Snow, but it's not a great move. He's doing what he and Katniss stood against

so bare with me, im just coming to yell into the tumblr void because I'm so not brave enough to spew my thoughts on tiktok. and no I'm not a Gale stan but i do think he - just like all the characters is very important part of the story. anyways. i kept seeing people mentioning how different the 74th games would have been with Gale and Katniss going in. And a lot of them are like "oh yeah, in the end gale would let Katniss win" or things like "Gale would let the bloodlust take over."
and while those could be true, it's also missing a MAJOR change that Gale brings to the ENTIER dynamic that changes Katniss's games from the second they step foot on the train to the capital.
Peeta (in the movie sorta but mostly book) MAKES Haymitch take them seriously. Gale would have 100% written him off as the "drunk" that he was, thus making Haymitch not realize Katniss's potential at ALL.
This would probably also have led her to show her skills in training as well as missing out on other vital things/skill she learned in training. Like i think her whole mood for training would be drastically sooo different.
Not to mention Gale wouldn't have gotten her NEARLY half the praise from the capital people like Peeta does. EVEN if he pulled a "i came here with the girl I love". Like he would have just come off so less ?? palatable?? charming?? as peta. he would totally lack that draw that the capital people have towards Peeta. He's far too serious and wouldn't have played it as a strategy/popularity game and more of a literal blood sport (that at its heart yes it is).
A line that ALWAYS sticks with me is the line in the movie and the book where Gale meets with Katniss before she goes off to the capital (HG CH3 Pg 40):
"Katniss, it's just hunting. You're the best hunter I know," says Gale.
"Its not just hunting. They're armed. They think." I say.
"So do you. And you've had more practice. Real practice." He says. "You know how to kill."
"Not people," I say.
"How different can it be, really?" says Gale grimly.
The awful thing is that if I can forget they're people, it will be no different at all.
Similarly in the movie he goes on and on about "how they just want a show" and says the above a little less wordy where they go back and forth quickly:
Gale: "You know how to hunt."
Katniss: "Animals."
Gale: "It's no different Katniss."
LIKE UGH. WHAT.
And damn who knows what would happen to Prim and Katniss's mother if BOTH family providers were to have to go off. Would Gale get his brothers to take care of them?? Would Peta's dad still step in??
like oof that just the little ive thought about how he'd navigate the arena and the concept is FASCINATING. Like if he'd gone in before katniss i could fully see him being a victor. damn.

I want to rant about how YA dystopian novel romances suck while I'm sick, so here we go. These are just my personal opinions, so if you like this type of stuff, good for you
First off, Hunger Games. I read this series about 2-3 years ago, and I thought the first book was pretty good until they had to put the Peta and Katniss romance in there. I do not care about angsty romance, I want to read about how corrupt the world is and I want President Snow to be tortured for all of the people he killed. I do NOT want romance, the series was perfectly good without it. I lost a lot of interest in it reading the 2nd and 3rd book. The best part of the 2nd book was Nuts and Volts, I could not care for the fake pregnancy. 3rd book was just boring as hell. Too angsty for my taste. And WHY did they kill off half of the characters I actually liked?? Their deaths felt rushed and pointless. This may just be a rant about things that piss me off in YA dystopian novels.
Second and lastly, Divergent. I didn't even finish the series. I stopped reading it in the second book. I thought the concept of Divergent was good, and I thought the world was cool but I could not CARE for Tris. I had to look her name up for this. I thought she was just boring and forgettable (although it has been a while since I read the books) I liked it at first, but same with Hunger Games, I lost all interest when it came to the romance plot. I liked Four better when he was just Four, Tobias sucked. Also the age gap in the books is about 2 years. In the movies its NINE YEARS. A 25 year old and a 16 year old. A ADULT AND A MINOR. In the books it makes more sense, since the age gap is only 2 years. I DO NOT NEED ROMANCES IN YA DYSTOPIAN NOVELS. And the second book. THE SECOND BOOK. OH MY GOD. I only was able to read until about chapter 7 because it was so boring. It was just Tris and Tobias being angsty and in love and Tris wearing oversized shirts and either shorts or no pants.
I also want to talk a bit about Harry Potter and how I completely lost interest after the 4th book. I stopped in the middle of the 5th book because OH MY GODS WAS IT BORING. I didn't even understand most of the plot! Also they did the Weasley twins dirty. Fred did not deserve to die and neither did Hedwig.
That's about it. If anyone has any good fiction books with no romance plots and/or romance doesn't become the theme in the books, please tell me.

Listen to me Suzanne Collins did not have to give Katniss and Peeta a history before the games. She did NOT have to do that. She could have just had their story begin when Peeta's name was called. She could have had them be total strangers until the moment of the reaping.
Like: "And the boy tribute is... Peeta Mellark!" Katniss: Who's that? Or she could have made them vaguely familiar with each other! Peeta's name is called and Katniss just thinks, Oh, I know that name! He's in my class, actually. Poor boy... Anyway!
Either way, SC could have written the rest of the story exactly the same! I think many authors would have done that! Because if Peeta's purpose in the book was to be Gale's competition, to be one of the 3 corners of a love triangle, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE WAY TO DO IT!! But that's NOT how she did it because that's NOT what Peeta is.
And what is he? To Katniss, Peeta's someone who saved her and her family and received nothing in return except a beating. Peeta's someone she has had her eye on but has never worked up the courage to talk to. Peeta's someone she associates with kindness and hope. And all this before the start of the events of the book! Just because WE, the READERS, met Gale before Peeta and immediately felt a connection with him does NOT mean that was Katniss's experience! And that's what SC is trying to tell us!
To dismiss Katniss and Peeta's past as unimportant or inconsequential compared to whatever Katniss and Gale have in the present is to fundamentally misunderstand Katniss as a character and, as a result, condemn oneself to never fully understand the choices she makes in the future.
Suzanne Collins wrote it that way on purpose because she had something to say. And no one will ever be able to convince me that something wasn't "It was always going to be Peeta".

Me: *reading a post that makes the joke “Peeta dropped the baby bomb, Gale drops bombs on babies”* haha good one
Also me: you’re missing the point! You’re missing the point! YOURE MISSING THE POINT! He grew up starving. His best friend almost died of hunger. Most of his people live in poverty. He watched children die in a bloodbath every year for the capital’s entertainment. The girl he loved went into the games. Was tortured by the capitol. His district was bombed out of existence. Nearly everyone he knew was killed. Their only crime was being fed up of being hungry and oppressed and sharing the same district as Katniss. All those innocent people. Murdered. He had to take refuge in a district that was bombed out of existence and forced to live underground. Of course he joined the war effort. Of course he designed unethical bombs and battle tactics. He wanted revenge. He wanted the capitol to have a taste of their own medicine. He wanted the rebellion to succeed. And tell me you could live through what he did, and that no part of you would be screaming for Justice and vengeance. Gale is you. You are Gale. He represents a part of feelings and actions that reside within us, even if you don’t act on it.
“But he killed prim!” Exactly! Gale loved prim. She was a second family to her. He looked after Katniss’ family. He saved them from the district 12 bombings. He loved her. He never would’ve put her in danger. He never would’ve put in order for a bombing if it would kill Prim. But coin would. And did. She took what was meant to be a tool of Gale’s righteous revenge for all the suffering he and his people suffered through, only for someone in power to take it and use it to kill someone he loved.
There’s some many lessons to take. We can’t control the things we create. War spares no one. Even justifiable rage and actions can end up rebounding and hurting those you love instead of your targets.
“He drops bombs on babies” is too simplistic of a takeaway and does a disservice to the story and Gale.

I will never stop thinking about the fact that the Hunger Games was canonically a drunk hypothetical. It wasn’t some great government scheme.
So many bad dystopian novels that have some crazy world building premise make it seem like some great creation from powerful minds. Some great construction. Think of City of Ember with its box or Divergent with its weird scientists(??) or The Selection with its bachelor premise, they are always “grandly designed.” Even in Catching Fire with the Quarter Quells the Games give off an air of grand planning.
But the hunger games were a HYPOTHETICAL. A crazy, extreme, what if. They were never supposed to exist. They were never supposed to be real.
Who wouldn’t drink themselves to death knowing they thought of the idea in the first place?

No because I remember Team Peeta vs Team Gale back in 2012-2015 and you know what it was actually a little fucked up and I'll tell you why.
In the first book, Peeta looses his leg after the Games. This permanently disables him despite the Capitol giving him a prosthetic.
In 2012, the movie comes out and they cut this aspect from the movie, aka, the Capitol healed him and he is now an able-bodied character.
However, in the second book, Peeta struggles to escape the fog in the arena due to his disability and his recent force-field charged death and resurrection. Peeta is physically disabled and weakened.
In the 2013 movie Catching Fire, Peeta struggles the same way, despite his disability being erased and being portrayed as able bodied. This left his vulnerability without explanation during a very crucial and costly scene (hence why Mags had to sacrifice herself).
His characterization in the movies felt inconsistent (not to mention some good scenes of him got left out) and didn't quite do the book version justice. Some character changes are inevitable wwhen translating book to screen, but erasing his disability was a mistake.
There was also a lot of outside factors that made the Team Peeta vs. Team Gale a whole thing. Twilight had firmly established the young adult love triangle teams, and The Hunger Games, in a ironically meta way, fit right into that idea.
Teen heartthrobs were still a thing, and the actors also played a role. Liam Hemsworth entered the scene already 6ft tall, younger brother to hot Australian super hero. Josh Hutcherson was a child actor, known for Zathura and Bridge to Terabithia. It was almost a textbook "mysterious hot guy" vs. "boy next door". And, when insecure people project the idea of the sanctity of masculinity onto these love interests, men want women to choose the most masculine one, and in this case, Liam Hemsworth/Gale fit that archetype more.
So yeah the whole thing was a product of culture of toxic masculinity with people largely ignorant of an erased disability.

the victors as complex characters will always be more interesting than making them amazing people.
like these are people who did absolutely everything in their power to survive something as traumatic as the games. most of them probably sleep with weapons in their hands. the thought on the forefront of most of their minds is survival. everything else—anyone else—can wait.
they sacrificed everything to crawl out of a killing game. their mental stability. their innocence. their childhood.
and after all of that, they realized that the games never really end. that they would sacrifice ever having a good night sleep without being plagued by nightmares. they would sacrifice their brains to help the capitol. they would sacrifice their bodies, something that should have always been their own, now snatched away from them. all for surviving a killing match that twenty-three children didn’t.
no victor is immune to this either. do you think cashmere doesn’t regret being so excited to go into the games after her brother after staying the night in a strange man’s bed that she doesn’t know? do you think gloss doesn’t regret not warning his sister about the horrors that await her after she wins? do you think brutus doesn’t sometimes wake up in a cold sweat after having yet another nightmare about being on the receiving end of his weapon, just as all of his victims were before everything faded to black? do you think enobaria doesn’t run her tongue over her sharpened teeth and wonder if it was worth it?
do you think beetee doesn’t flinch every time he sees lightning? do you think wiress doesn’t think of how if she hadn’t learned acrobatics that the 48th hunger games would have gone very differently? do you think finnick doesn’t see nets in the same way ever again, after he saw the girl from nine begging for her life tangled in a net he set up before he stabbed her with a trident? do you think annie doesn’t think about if she hadn’t spent all of that time on the beach growing up, playing in the water, that she wouldn’t have survived the dam breaking in her arena? do you think mags doesn’t think about how she left her district partner to die in the first ever traditional career pack? how if maybe, if she had been there to take the blow for him, there would be a different victor of the 11th hunger games?
do you think that blight doesn’t wonder what would have happened if the boy from two had looked up a little bit sooner, looked a little bit closer at the treetops above him, before the knife previously in blight’s hand found it’s way to the boy’s back? do you think that every time johanna picks up an axe, she doesn’t think about what it felt like to stab someone with it, what blood felt like when it splattered you? do you think she doesn’t wake up in a sweat, thinking the moisture on her skin is blood, that she’s back in the third quarter quell? do you think she doesn’t ever walk into her house in the victor’s village and think she sees a glimpse, a shadow, of her lost loved ones?
do you think that woof doesn’t use real knives anymore because every time he sees one, he remembers how it felt to stab blindly at the boy from seven? that even when he was seventy-five and the male tribute from eight for the third quarter quell, he couldn’t even look at the utensil and had to get cecelia to take it away from him? do you think cecelia can’t look at seashells anymore, that she could barely stand district four on her victory tour, because the girl from four was her last kill? that her necklace, a pretty one her sister made for her with a seashell strung through the string, was what cecelia used to choke the life out of her?
do you think that chaff doesn’t ever feel the phantom feeling of his hand? doesn’t ever touch the stump where it used to be and feel the phantom pain of it being sawed off like it was yesterday, even thirty years later? do you think that seeder doesn’t ever feel the hot sun of her arena on her body, doesn’t ever think she’s back, waiting for her death to come?
do you think that haymitch doesn’t start shaking every time a blowgun is provided at the cornucopia? do you think that he didn’t see the gold pin on katniss’ arena wear and have to sit down, remembering a very different girl with blonde hair and a quick witted humor with the same pin? do you think that peeta doesn’t hear foxface’s voice during her interview, over and over and over, until it’s so distorted he can’t even remember what she had actually said? that he doesn’t ever think of the girl from eight, a girl he might not have even known the name of?
do you think that, years down the line, katniss doesn’t realize the fate that waited for glimmer if she had won? do you think that she doesn’t wonder what would have happened if cato was a little quicker to get to the cornucopia to save clove? do you think she doesn’t wonder what the girl from four was like, what her name was, what her parents were like, what she was like? do you think that she doesn’t think about what would have happened if marvel was just a little bit quicker with his spear than her with her arrows, what would have happened if she was just a little bit slower to get to rue?
the what-ifs plague them. their games will never leave them. they will never escape their experiences. their lives will never be their own, if they ever were, ever again.

everything about coriolanus and sejanus is sick. because to sejanus, coryo was his everything. his best and only friend, his only companion, the only person in the academy who cared enough for him that he had even risked his life to bail him out of the arena. in district 12, when sejanus appeared in the brink of snow’s hopelessness and brought hope and familiarity to his life, coryo immediately embraced him, and then practically telling him that sejanus just saved him from committing suicide— which obviously only solidified sejanus’ belief that his best friend treasured him and loved him and cared for him unconditionally. (which i believe snow did, just to some extent).
but most of the times, to coryo, sejanus was just a friend. a friend that he tolerated every once in a while, a friend he resented lots of time because of his background, and a friend he really cared for, but not enough. never enough when the other choice was his country. and sejanus died not knowing that. he died without the knowledge that it was his best friend who betrayed him, and that he was still referred to as a “traitor” by him on an occasion with the dean.
and what’s so fucking sick is that coryo did care and mourn about it yes, but then he moved on and took on the ladder by taking pieces of what was left of his friend’s life with his blood on his hands and used it to his advantage.
he was taken in under the care of his dead friend’s family, loved and cared for, never had to worry about money anymore. ma and strabo plinth would never know that the reason their beloved son wasn’t alive, why their son wasn’t there anymore for his 19th birthday was because of his best friend they had just taken in. and no one would ever ever fucking find out.
and coryo. just. doesn’t. care. about. sejanus. anymore. in a snap. because now he has won, taking over panem one step at the time, and that has always been his biggest motivator. he might’ve cared for sejanus, like he cared for lucy gray, but that has never been enough. not when at the end of it all, the only person he has always been striving to save was himself and the glory of his family name and he ends up getting both. all’s well that ends well

Nowhere near done finishing Sunrise on the Reaping (because my eyes get tired from crying), but itty bitty teeny tiny spoilers.
So, like I officially believe that Plutarch Heavensbee is one of the smartest, if not the smartest person in Panem.
What do you mean he has been supporting the rebellion for DECADES and never got found out? Even more so, he climbed his way up to HEAD GAMEMAKER without a single poisoned oyster. He fooled THE Coriolanus Snow. He was right there under his giant honker.

i think this scene epitomises katniss’s full feelings for peeta in the movies because she looks exactly like her mum when her dad died. especially afterwards when plutarch was explaining peeta’s hijacking, she looked dead inside and mirrored her mum completely, who throughout the series katniss refers to as “useless” after her dad died and she despises that her mum ended up how she did. but this scene shows how katniss is finally understanding her mum because she’s found someone she loves just as much maybe more than her mum loved her dad and that scares her because she viewed what her mum and dad had as “real love” and it ended with her mum struggling BADLY and she’s afraid that she’ll turn out like her now. after everything that happened to peeta she’s genuinely terrified she’ll be just like her mum - the one person she really didn’t want to turn out to be and that’s probably why she’s so scared of the idea of love and even more scared of the idea that she loves someone as much as her mum loved her dad as she know that their love was (in her eyes) the truest, realest form of love she had ever been exposed to so katniss would be inclined to think what her mum went through was the universal experience of what the after effects of love can do. and that’s what makes everlark so beautiful the way peeta opens up a new form of love for her she never knew existed TWICE.

So I just finished re-reading Mockingjay (I’m re-reading the OG trilogy and the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes before reading Sunrise on the Reaping) and like- fucking hell did I forget how painful that book is
(Spoliers for mockingjay)
Like- I thought I’d made it out of the woods, I was past- you know, the deaths. I got emotional but no tears in sight, thought I’d made it- and then I got to the Buttercup part and it was like- oh, well hello mental breakdown and I’m just sobbing and- SHE GIVES BUTTERCUP ALL HER BACON AND NOT JUST ENTRAILS AND HE GUARDS HER IN HER SLEEP THE WAY HE USED TO DO FOR PRIM
SHE NEEDED THE DANDELION IN THE SPRING BECAUSE SHE HAD ENOUGH FIRE ON HER OWN
THEY WOULD’VE HAPPENED ANYWAY
THE BOOK THEY MAKE
THEY GROW BACK TOGETHER
THE GIRL AND THE BOY TAKE THE LULLABY FOR GRANTED BECAUSE THEY’VE ALWAYS HAD IT AND HAVE NEVER KNOWN PAIN OR HUNGER
MY CHILDREN THAT DON’T KNOW THEY PLAY ON A GRAVEYARD
THE QUESTIONS ARE JUST BEGINNING- THE GIRL KNOWS BUT THE BOY STILL DOESN’T
KATNISS MAKES A LIST OF ALL THE GOOD DEEDS SHE’S WITNESSED AND YOU FUCKING KNOW THE VERY FIRST THING TO POP INTO HER HEAD EVERYTIME IS THE BOY WITH THE BREAD
IT GETS REPETITVE AFTER OVER TWENTY YEARS OF IT
BUT THERE ARE MUCH WORSE GAMES TO PLAY
SOMEBODY SEDATE ME
I genuienly believe there is just- that is the best closing line of any book ever. Like- you cannot top that come on now
It’s so fucking good but is just tears you apart into pieces every single time
AND GALLLLEEEEEEE THE BEST OF THE WORST
i fucking hate his guts but I also love his character because he was doomed from the start- his and Katniss friendship starts with a snare- a trap and it ends with the last trap of the war
he is a tragedy not because what he did was unavoidable but because he would’ve had to be a different person to make a different choice- he let his anger consume his empathy! He is what happens when you make soldiers out of children and they only see war and not what will come after!
he made a bomb to target the compassion of human beings and the most compassionate person in Katniss’s eyes was obviously going to fall victim to it!!!
AND THE FUCKER DOESN’T APOLOGIZE BECAUSE HE KNOWS HE CANNOT BE FORGIVEN- THAT KATNISS WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO SEPARATE THAT MOMENT FROM HIM
And like- the way Katniss depression and numbness and disassociation is written is just so gut-wrenching and devastating and real it just- AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH
AND PEETA MY SHAYLAAAAAAAAA
Like- as soon as Haymitch is like- bitch if this were the other way around would he treat you like a mutt and Katniss is like ‘oh fuck you right’ and they start the ‘Real or not real’ game and you can just tell he still has that heart of gold deep down.
HE’S THE ONE THAT HELPS POLLUX COPE DOWN IN THE TUNNELS
HE GIVES KATNISS THE CAN OF LAMB STEW CAUSE HE KNOWS IT’S HER FAVORITE
HE VERY OBVIOUSLY STILL CONSIDERS HIMSELF AN OPTION FOR HER WHEN TALKING WITH GALE ABOUT WHO SHE’LL CHOOSE (also love that she’s like shut up you bitches I could survive without either of you for a second there)
HE DOESN’T WANT TO HURT ANYONE- HE TRIES TO GET THEM TO KILL HIM ON MULTIPLE OCASSIONS
HE KNOWS HER SO WELL, HE INSTANTLY KNOWS WHAT SHE’LL DO AS SOON AS SHE SHOOTS COIN AND STOPS HER FROM KILLING HERSELF
“Stay with me” “Always” ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! <- EVEN WHEN HE’S STILL STRUGGLING WITH THE EFFECTS OF THE HIJACKING HE STILL ANSWERS WITH ALWAYS
“Let me go!” “I can’t!” <- FIRST FUCKING TIME THEY’VE BOTH BEEN SELFISH IN THIS BOOK AND IT BREAKS MEEEEEEEEE
THEY INVENTED ROMANCE AND SOULMATISM
HE PLANTS PRIMROSES- GIVES HER A PLACE TO GRIEVE
THE DAY HE SHOWS UP KATNISS SHOWERS AND CHANGES HER CLOTHES AND BRUSHES HER HAIR FOR THE FIRST TIME IN WHO KNOWS HOW LONG AND DECIDES TO GO HUNTING
They truly just wake each other up and they are each other’s dandelion
also, totally underrated but Boggs is criminally underrated, i rarely see him show up in fics and my man is honestly my fave member of Katniss’s 451 squad, he’s such a cool, interesting character and almost a surrogate dad and he’s just the BEST I love him
a king gone too soon!
But another thing that gets me is that when she’s imprissoned, Katniss starts singing again… and she mentions she’s surprised by how many songs and lyrics she seems to remember all of a sudden- also low-key convinced they set up some kind of microphone in there and had her singing playing on the private radios or smth cause Plutarch is so quick to be like ‘would you like to be on this new singing show?’ -> they totally played those recordings for Peeta during his therapy in the Capitol that’s a personal headcannon of mine
Also the humanization of the prep-team and how Katniss mentions the last time they show up that they seem so afraid of even touching her cause they don’t want to accidentally hurt her when she’s covered in scars and how they’re also devastated and have also had their entire world turned upside down- god I love the prep team and their evolution throughout the books, they should’ve been in the movies I adore them
didn’t mean for this to be so long but I will never be done talking about this series and how much it just- ugh I can’t even describe the things this series does to me it’s so good
And I’m so excited (and scared) to read Sunrise on the Reaping cause I just know it will destroy me

the acceptance of the ai editing trend on hunger games tiktok is baffling. what do you mean you were supposed to use ai because “it’s a trend tho”. Why is it trending? Why does it being a trend make it okay? Who perpetuates a trend? What is a trend but a willful compliance to conform to one idea? Break free. Enjoy media that people make. There is no warmth behind the eyes that stare back through the mirror. You arrive to find the hearth empty and the fireplace swept. There is no one behind this door but the shadows of stories. No soul no passion no light no warmth. and yet you seek it out like a brethren. God help you. You know not warmth but deception.
