Art summary time!

Things were going slow but steady this year, and then... I discovered In Stars and Time in April... ISaT kicked my love of drawing back into full gear and I've been finding SO much joy in creating again. Very pink and purple, as always :D

you know, sometimes I forget that Twst is actually an isekai that starts with the protagonist getting run over by an inexplicable horse-drawn carriage. and every time I'm reminded is a delight because that's AMAZING.

also. look. okay. there's a lot of very fun stuff in the trailer but I am obsessed with that Crowley surprised pikachu face. me when I spend all my keys and gems literally hours before they announce overblot SSRs and drop the anime trailer:

#twisted wonderland #twst anime #<- gonna use that for anime stuff in case anyone wishes to filter it #this is the point where i once again have to admit that i have not really read the manga #(i've liked what i've seen but it's very hard for me to keep up with stuff a lot of the time)#(the anime may actually be easier for me to absorb it in :')#god i GOTTA draw the manga yuus #i kept meaning to when yuuna got revealed but i didn't get around to it before 7-13 ate my brain 😭#anyway the bits they chose for the trailer are pretty interesting to me!#like i think chances are good it was mostly from that one sequence because given the timeline #they probably don't have a ton of 100% finished post-comp footage yet so they probably just took what they have #but also i'm thinking back to how deliberately vague all the game promo stuff was #and...okay again i don't really know how they did it in the manga but i am reminded of how overblotting was actually like. a twist.#a twst twist #like we were introduced to it in the prologue with the mine phantom #but riddle's overblot was an actual SURPRISE and like. an instant reveal that okay THIS is what the story's gonna be about #so i'm just kinda wondering if the anime promos might also like...actively try not to spoil everything #or if they're gonna go full anime-intro 'here's all the super spoilery scenes you can expect to see :)'#basically is the marketing gonna skew towards new viewers or established fans. both valid i'm just curious!#also excuse me for a moment as i reveal myself as a hugely pretentious snob but #oh my god the backgrounds actually have some texture and shape and are taking style cues from the game backgrounds #oh my god the castle exterior actually looks illustrative and fantastic and isn't just a 3d model they plopped in #it's hard to tell at this point how consistent that'll be since most of the trailer is in the mirror chamber #but i'm just SO happy to see it! hopefully this means they weren't crunched to fuck and are able to really go ham #(the pre-isekai scenes all look more generic modern anime so like...is that a conscious artistic choice they made)#(because that would be incredible. holy shit.)

AU where Leo is trapped in the Prison Dimension for months instead of minutes and the only way he gets by with his sanity intact is through recording himself talking to his wrist comm.

When they finally manage to get Leo back and make him rest up to heal, Donnie can’t help but listen to the recordings left behind.

He’s not sure what exactly he’s expecting, only that his subconscious is screaming at him that it has to be heartbreaking, that it has to be torturous.

Instead, what Donnie is subject to is a full thousand hours’ worth of Jupiter Jim and Lou Jitsu crossover fanfiction. More than one part in the series. Spanning well over a million words.

(The worst part is that it’s actually good.)

Okay so I want to write my thoughts out.

This family was Twilight’s scheme. Well, Anya really got it together, but it was his plan. Anya knows the whole truth, but Yor is under the assumption that the only lie in the Forger family is their marriage. She believes Anya is really Loid’s kid and he’s just an average guy. Yor gets to realize her emotions first because she has always been able to recognize people’s hidden emotions. She always tells Loid that Anya adores him and that he’s doing a great job, always helps him realize things he didn’t even notice himself. She’s always encouraging Anya, being that mother figure, even when she doubts herself. Despite the lies, what Yor feels about her family is real.

Twilight is not allowing himself that same grace. This family is his construction, so therefore he needs to keep them at arm’s length so he doesn’t get attached. He is capable of those feelings, but his trauma and mission are all he knew up until the last 6 months. Every time he experiences an emotion that expresses the slightest bit of affection for his family, he sees it as a weakness. And can you blame him? He has so many enemies and he can’t trust anyone. Besides, loving his family for real will make it harder to let them go in the end. Remember, this is a long mission, but it is supposed to come to an expected end.

Anya has her age and innocence and is able to verbalize her feelings for her family much easier than her parents. Though the words “love” rarely appears between the three of them, it is clear that Anya likes her family and their dynamic. But she understands why Twilight adopted her and knows that she plays a role in his mission. She knows that it’ll come to an end some day, that’s why she could confide in Damian her secret, and not her parents. She feels they can send her away at any time and them knowing she’s psychic might accelerate that process. I’ve always wondered if Twilight not “loving” her ever bothers her, but she’s like 5. It just seems a little depressing that she is so fond of her father but he isn’t quite there yet. And maybe Anya does understand that, but she doesn’t quite mind.

All in all, yes Twilight/Loid is so dense but that’s only cause we have all the details. There’s no way he would be bringing down his walls yet, especially since he already thought Yor liked him and she shut that down. So he already has it in his mind that he and Yor see each other in the same way, a means to an end. But Yor is starting to see it differently. It’ll be a long while until Twilight catches up to that.

#also we don’t know what twilight’s real identity and personality is #Yor is drawing closer to Loid #but she doesn’t know who he really is #we don’t even know who he really is #is Loid his true self? a mix of the personalities ?#if it wasn’t for the war who would he be ?#anyway!!#the twiyor side of my brain is calling him stupid #but the other side of me gets it #spy x family #spy x family spoilers #this is the start of Yor realizing she cares for him #not necessarily romantic #but she’s starting to see herself as an individual capable of love and respect #cause she often sacrificed so much for her brother #but this is something she wants for herself #and she wants to know if twilight sees her as just a mother/wife figure #or values HER as a person. like could she easily be replaced with another woman?#and that’s the turmoil that’s been building up since Fiona entered the scene #I hope Yor starts to be more selfish honestly #AND ANOTHER THING #Yor assumes Anya is actually Loid’s so they were a happy family before she entered the scene #so she’s not really asking if he’s happy with being a parent cause he always was technically #shes not asking if he’s happy with a family because she assumes he always had one #she wants to know if he loves their LIFE TOGETHER in the same way she does #she’s specifically referring to herself

this would be early on in their relationship, possibly shortly before they get stabbed to hell during the siege of mantinea. nothing cements the bonds of friendship quite like grievous injury :)
