tell your baby, that i'm your baby. (a loving family, an unpalatable desire drabble)

— masterlist !
this is written in regards to one of my drabbles, i can't help but sigh at just how good the angst is for damian in this series.
because in loving family, unpalatable desire, you pretty much exclusively nickname him "dami, baby," from day one right after meeting him. you say it not in a way that you wish to overstep your boundaries at simply being his stepparent - you're aware, despite the ache in your chest admitting it, that you'll never come quite close to talia's standing in his heart, it's simply impossible with how she raised him her entire life before being dropped off in bruce's care - but because you find the boy adorable if you look past his intent at trying to murder you at every passing glance.
or maybe it's just you trying to cope with the pain of your situation, that you consider them all your beloved children, yet never being once called their parent throughout your entire marriage that breaks apart the illusion of a happy home life, that this wasn't the marriage you wanted at all; that you'll never bear a time in your life stuck in the manor seeing their genuine smiles directed at you even if you attempt to approach as patiently as possible in hopes your presence might be accepted— even if it results in awkward laughs at your cringy jokes at the dinner table, or one of damian's weapons nearly plunging the side of your head.
maybe, it's such a struggle to keep the flicker of light alive in your body whenever all your hardships fail, and all throughout you find your husband with lipstick stains all over his white collar every time he comes home that your mind forces itself to believe that with enough trial and error, maybe one of them could eventually tolerate, rather than pity you.
unfortunately, you chose damian, the one who you're convinced arguably despises you the most, of all people living or visiting the manor to run the test.
so in all the instances you chirp out his nickname, so fondly, so eminently heard across the walls of the manor, even in the spacious expanse of the gardens could your voice be heard from miles away, all because you wish to bond with him, praising his artworks with your grating voice, to give him intricate gifts you know will be discarded in the trash in front of you; you'll be met with a stubborn glare and mean comments about how he'll never consider you his parent, to relinquish your delusions at thinking he'll even let you past his walls, and how he'll never follow through the orders of a scum like you.
which is what you're forced to deal with every single day, coupled with harsh reminders of their happiness without the need for your presence beside them.
sometimes, his reactions could be his typical harsh comments, you've grown accustomed enough to differentiate what is harmless and what borders on violence; it's enough to know when to stop bothering him despite your best efforts. other times, it would be as intense as running a sword through the strands of your hair until he chops it at the end with a threat to cut off your tongue right after if you dare call him that putrid nickname again that cuts deeper than any wound.
with every trial of becoming closer to him, results in an even widening crack in your relationship with the young boy. and eventually, with enough sighs under your breath and harsh glares from him, you'll come into terms that you'll never form a cordial bond with the young boy. it's just impossible with how he views you, sheltered and undeserving because of your family's reputation of being money laundering scum.
at that period of time, you instead chose to strengthen your relationship with the reporter who saved you one day from the paparazzi's cruel interviews, the cute man from the daily planet whose name is clark kent with an even more adorable son, jon, who welcomed you with open arms and a tight hug on your stomach, muttering about how he's so excited to meet his new parent, just when you first stepped on the doors of your affair partner's home; that was enough to relinquish any anguish you felt at the manor replaced with absolute joy at what seems to be the first time you're considered the parent, part of a family, in a completely different household.
it helps erase the shadow of doubt that you may be cursed to never be accepted into an established family with just how bright, how comparable jon was to an overexcitable golden retriever, bonding with you since day one unlike all the other insufferable moments crammed into a jam-packed dinner table— only for your voice to be discarded and overpowered by others.
you start to call him your baby instead, completely in awe at the cute freckles littering his sun-kissed skin and the country boy accent he adopted from his dad. you couldn't help but hold his cheeks in your palms and kiss all over his face whilst you kneel to his level, laughing along with the giggles erupting from his throat that creates this harmonious melody in clark's ears, who watches you scoop the boy into your arms just to swing him back and forth in cuteness aggression, just how it always should've been with you.
clark pictures the moment together, capturing jon's smooshed face shadowed by your hair whilst you look at his, no, your son with inexplicable joy, eyes crinkled and shining brightly under the halo of the sunset.
and clark doesn't even have to see just much jon loves and cherishes you at first glance.
he wouldn't even dare compare you to his late mother, never once calling you a replacement or a homewrecker, placing you upon a pedestal you deserve to be instead; because let's face it, you simply live in the manor, but your true home is where clark and jon, and ma and pa kent are at. pictures of your little family are framed in your shared bedroom for you to graze your finger upon whenever you wish to reminisce the blessings bestowed upon meeting your affair partner at just by chance.
but you shouldn't have forgotten about damian that quickly, not when jon all-too suddenly shoves that photo of you in his wallet in front of his face, it made damian's mind go off in a tangent, in both curiosity and frustated yet unstated interrogations at your sudden disappearance (your grating voice don't call out to him anymore, and suddenly, the manor is quieter; he despises that feeling of emptiness more than he does of your nickname for him) then reappearance as jon's, funny, hah—!
jon's parent.
and in moments of careful investigation does he realize—
when you're with jon, his best friend, when he spies in on you at the little farm you now live in, currently alone with someone whom you call your true son, that he comes to realize just how much that nickname means so much to him, as your voice, with that soft tone, scold his friend with that familiar warmth you always used to direct at him with the softest of gaze, an angel unlike the sea of rich bastards he meets at the galas who only communicate with him to form connections, advantages by being associated with a family of the wayne's.
it's only when you're stripped away from him that he realizes how much he relishes your sweet occupancy into his heart, how there's always been an unbidden, forbidden chamber in his heart that beats for the love you offer him that was unlike the harsh environment he was born in.
he's never been adorned with such a delicate title that portrays him the opposite of what he's raised to be; damian has always been the blood son, son of the bat and heir to the demon king's throne, but never something as fond, as unforeseen as someone's baby.
it just thwarts the spark of hope in his heart and extends the lump in his throat at the scene that plays before him, the loving nickname you oh-so carefully address him now relinquished and graced to another boy, his friend no less— who you considered yours, who he's aware is way more deserving of being called your baby rather than him, who had always denied you from the very start.
"jon, baby, you help me clean the windows tomorrow, alright, young man? it's stained with all your fingerprints!" you scold him as assertively as you can, kneeling down to his level and pinching his cheeks all while grinning at the boy. jon retorts with a tongue out his lips and a scrunch of his nose. it garners a laugh from you, one damian swore he's never heard sounded so desirable until now.
why are you calling jon your baby?
"not my fault, mom/dad! i get so excited to see you come home every time you have to return there!" damian seethes at the scene of jon's pouting and puppy-eyes looking up at you, that should've been him.
"can't you just stay here? forever?"
damian despises how he engraves the melody of your laughter in reply to jon's words, right into his eardrums, but omits the disgustingly sweet chirp in your voice calling jon, not him, your baby. his mind nips away at the memories at all the moments you addressed him too, and how he always rejected and corrected you to call him by his name like a proper person rather than a maniac pushing themself into his life.
he doesn't want to ever hear you address him, if it means it's not by his nickname that you now call jon.
damian couldn't even deny how the huge grin that stretches across your face at the sight of his best friend scalds him with bitterness, he wasn't even aware you're capable of such enjoyment, not when back at the manor your hesitant with even displaying a tinge of happiness— as if you're capable of doing so, not when he knows he's one of the main contributors for being the reason of your current affair.
and yet he wishes he could lie and say he didn't miss it, miss your expectant stare at him, the contrast of talia's comfort compared to yours, when the hugs you offer him, the gifts carefully curated to his preferences, the palpable love that never once wavered for your family that you could never call yours, they all seem like a distant dream now that you're away from them; from him.
it hurts watching you two communicate even further, for once it's him in the background watching like an outsider instead of you. for once, he understands what isolation feels like, what foreboding desires fester deep into his scarred soul that could only be cured with one of the softest cuddly hugs, the sweetest, flutter of your lashes as you stare oh-so fondly at jon like he meant the world to you, like it was only the two of you in the world embracing the light filtering through the windows, side by side, inseparable.
if there was one wish he could conjure, a desire he was trained to forfeit himself to feel that creeps its way into the depths of his guarded heart— it's that once you put jon into bed - even if it takes hours, even his heart feels like it's being squeezed out of blood watching your nightly, affectionate routine with jon; reading him bedtime stories, eating together, laughing lightly at the dinner table while you feed him your share of the plate, moments he never thought he felt compelled to spend with you - once he strikes at the perfect opportunity to talk to you, to confront your blunder of choosing them over him, of his woes towards your relationship—
he wishes, with unceasing faith, that you still love him enough to call him your baby once more.

Professional Hazard (And Blue Tongues)
Karina x Male Reader

'I expected you to have...'
'Grey hair? Glasses thick as tank armor?' You lean back. 'Let me guess—ancient and decrepit?'
'Something like that.' She toys with her iced americano, ice cubes clinking.
'Get that more than you'd think.'
'Can't imagine why.'
'Sure you can't.'
She straightens in her chair. 'Well? Are you going to ask your questions or what?'
'Did you have something specific in mind?'
'I thought you'd at least come prepared.' The sharp edge in her voice softens, adapting. 'After that email you sent.'
'I am prepared.'
'Do you know who I am?'
'I know you're Karina. I know you agreed to fund my little Italian vacation.' You keep your voice flat, unimpressed.
She laughs, short and sharp. 'They really sent someone who knows nothing.'
'Biographers aren't exactly growing on trees these days. Most of them are busy dying off.' [1]
'That's comforting.'
'About as comforting as your enthusiastic response to my email.'
'Ah.' She smirks. 'My monument to hubris?'
'Your words, not mine.'
'Christ, you're not exactly sunshine and roses, are you?'
'If only you knew.'
'Oh, I think I do.' She leans forward. 'People like me—we're your bread and butter. Desperate enough to take the abuse just to get that book written.'
'Quick study.'
'Experience, darling.' She draws out the last word like stretched taffy.
'If immortality's what you're after, we're off to a rocky start.'
'Not even grateful for the Italian holiday?'
You meet her eyes. 'Bribery's nothing new. Don't expect it to polish your image.'
'Tough nut to crack, aren't you?'
'I have what I need.'
'Meaning?'
'Let me put this delicately: my last subject bought me a year at New York's finest.' [2]
'Fantastic.' She rattles her ice cubes harder.
'You know what I think?' She sets down her drink with deliberate care.
'Enlighten me.'
'I think you enjoy this. The whole "unimpressed biographer" act.'
You pull out your notebook, unhurried. 'That'd make a great chapter one. "Local girl psychoanalyzes writer, lives to regret it."'
'There it is again.' Her smile doesn't reach her eyes. 'Tell me, do your subjects usually last long enough for chapter two?'
'The interesting ones do.'
'And the boring ones?'
You flip open to a blank page. 'They get a lovely rejection letter.'
'Which I didn't.'
'Yet.'
She leans back, studying you. The late afternoon sun catches the edge of her glass, throwing prismatic shapes across the table. 'You really don't care that I could walk away right now.'
'The door's right there.' You click your pen. 'But we both know you won't.'
'Because?'
'Because you didn't spend three months negotiating with my publisher just to storm off over hurt feelings.'
'Maybe I just like wasting time.'
'Maybe.' You meet her gaze. 'But people who like wasting time don't usually have a dozen designer brand sponsorships.'
Something shifts in her expression—surprise, maybe, or respect. 'So you did do your homework.'
'I always do.' You position your pen over the blank page. 'Now, shall we begin with the real questions?'
'Shoot.' She shifts in her chair, the late afternoon sun warming the cafe corner we've claimed.
'Tell me about your sister.'
Her eyebrows lift slightly. 'Not starting with the obvious questions?'
'Would you prefer those?'
'No.' She smiles, genuine this time. 'She's a nurse. Like our mom.'
'Close?'
'Very. She's the only person who still calls me Jimin.' She stirs her americano. 'Probably the only person who can get away with it, too.'
'Why's that?'
'Because she knew me when I was just the quiet kid who'd rather read in corners than talk to anyone. Before all of...' She waves her hand vaguely. 'This.'
'Still prefer corners?'
'Sometimes.' She considers the question. 'There's this tiny bookstore in Seongnam. When I go home, I still visit. They have this perfect spot by the window.'
'What do you read?'
'Whatever catches my eye. Last week it was about sharks.'
You raise an eyebrow. 'Sharks?'
'Don't look so surprised.' She laughs. 'They're fascinating. Everyone thinks they know them, but they don't, not really.'
'Speaking from experience?'
She takes a long sip of her drink instead of answering.
'You don't have to do that, you know.' You set your pen down.
'Do what?'
'Deflect. Turn everything into a metaphor.'
She meets your eyes for a long moment. 'Force of habit.'
'Bad one.'
'Says the person who's been matching my deflections word for word.' A half-smile plays at her lips. 'We're quite the pair, aren't we?'
'Difference is, I'm paid to be difficult.'
'And I was raised to be.' The words slip out before she can catch them. Her fingers tighten around her glass.
You wait.
'You're good at this,' she says quietly.
'At what?'
'Making silence comfortable.' She looks out the window. 'Most people try to fill it.'
'Most people aren't trying to understand.'
She turns back to you, something shifting in her expression. 'Is that what you're trying to do? Understand?'
'Would that be so terrible?'
'No,' she says.
'Progress.' You pick up your pen again. 'Though I've just realized something deeply troubling.'
'What's that?'
'Your americano's been empty for ten minutes, and you're still pretending to drink it.'
She glances at her glass, caught. 'Method acting.'
'Ah yes, the classic "I'm too invested in this conversation to pause for a refill" performance.' You wave to catch the barista's eye. 'Oscar-worthy.'
'Says the person who hasn't touched their...' She leans forward to peek at your cup. 'What even is that?'
'Green tea.'
'Pretentious.'
'Says the person who ordered an iced americano in winter.'
'It's barely spring.'
'Case in point.'
The barista arrives with fresh drinks. Karina raises an eyebrow at your cup. 'Still green tea?'
'I'm consistent.'
'Boring.'
'Strategic.' You take a deliberate sip. 'Can't blame caffeine jitters for whatever honesty slips out.'
'Sneaky.'
'Professional.'
'Same thing.' She stirs her new drink, ice cubes clinking. 'So what's next in your strategic interrogation?'
'Thought we agreed to drop the deflection thing.'
'Old habits. Ten seconds at a time.'
'That's oddly specific.'
'It's how I learned to swim.' At your questioning look, she continues, 'Ten seconds of courage. Then you can panic all you want.'
'Does that work?'
'Got me here, didn't it?' She gestures between you two. 'Letting a stranger with a notebook and suspiciously consistent beverage choices pick apart my life.'
'You could always run.'
'To where? Croatia?' She laughs at your surprised expression. 'What? I have dreams.'
'Of Croatia specifically?'
'Of anywhere that doesn't know my name.'
'That's rather poetic for someone who just called me pretentious.'
'I contain multitudes.' She mock-bows in her seat.
'Walt Whitman now?'
'See? You're not the only one who can be insufferably well-read.'
You make a show of writing something down.
You flip to a fresh page. 'Tell me about Croatia.'
'Nothing to tell. Just a place.'
'There are plenty of places that don't know your name. Why that one?'
She traces the rim of her glass again, a habit you've started to recognize as her thinking gesture. 'Have you ever seen those old coastal towns? The ones with narrow streets and buildings that look like they're having conversations with each other?'
'Been to a few.'
'I want to get lost in one.' She looks up. 'Properly lost. No GPS, no itinerary. Just... walking until my feet decide to stop.'
'Most people want to be found.'
'Most people haven't spent years being findable.' The sharpness in her voice surprises both of you. She softens it with a smile. 'Sorry. That sounded more dramatic than intended.'
'Don't apologize. It's the first time you've stopped performing since we sat down.'
'I haven't been—' She stops. Laughs. 'Okay. Point taken.'
'Progress. Again.'
'You're keeping score?'
'Always.' You tap your notebook. 'It's kind of the whole point.'
'And how am I doing?'
'In being honest or deflecting?'
'Both.'
'You're averaging about fifty-fifty.'
'Generous scoring.'
'Strategic encouragement.'
'You're good at that.' She stretches slightly. 'Making people think they're in control of the conversation.'
'Are you not?'
'Please. We both know you've been steering this ship since you sat down.' She pauses. 'Though I will say, you're the first interviewer who hasn't asked about my routine yet.'
'Your routine?'
'You know. "What time do you wake up? What's your skincare regimen? How many hours do you practice?" That whole song and dance.'
'Would you like me to ask?'
'God no.' She grins. 'But I'm curious why you haven't.'
'Because routines are what people do. I'm more interested in who they are.'
'And who am I?'
'Still figuring that out. But I know you crack your knuckles when you're nervous.'
She stops mid-crack, caught. 'Observant.'
'Professional hazard.' You lean forward. 'Tell me something real. Not about routines or schedules or practices.'
'Like what?'
'Like what you think about at three AM when you can't sleep.'
She's quiet for a long moment. 'Sometimes I forget what my natural speaking voice sounds like.'
'What do you mean?'
'You spend so many years modulating everything—your voice, your laugh, your reactions—until one day...' She shrugs. 'One day you catch yourself using your "public" voice to order coffee at 3 AM in an empty convenience store, and you realize you can't remember what you used to sound like.'
'And that bothers you.'
'Wouldn't it bother you? Losing something that fundamental without even noticing it was gone?'
'Is that why we're here? Trying to find it again?'
'Maybe.' She smiles, but it's different now. Unpolished. 'Or maybe I'm just tired of having "public" and "private" versions of everything.'
'Including your voice.'
'Including my entire existence.'
'Right.' You snap your notebook shut. 'We're getting gelato.'
[1] The suspicious rate at which biographers are "dying off" has become something of an industry joke. Three prominent biographers mysteriously retired after attempting to write about a certain K-pop company's CEO. Totally not suspicious.
[2] The Plaza Hotel, to be specific. Said subject was a tech billionaire whose autobiography mysteriously never made it to print. The hotel suite, however, maintains legendary status among New York's housekeeping staff for its impressive collection of empty green tea bottles and rejection letters.
She blinks. 'What?'
'We're walking.' You stand, gathering your things. 'Unless you have somewhere to be?'
'Are you actually asking, or is this another strategic move?'
'Both. Neither. Whatever. Does it matter if there's gelato involved?'
A genuine laugh escapes her. 'Fair point.'
The early evening air hits your faces as you step outside. She pulls on a cap—more habit than disguise.
'Left or right?' you ask.
'You're the one who lives here.'
'Technically, I've been here three days.'
'And you already know where to get gelato?'
'First thing I do in any city. Professional secret.'
'Ah yes, the biographer's handbook. Chapter One: locate ice cream immediately.'
'Chapter Two: never reveal your sources.' You turn left. 'Unless they're wearing a questionably large cap and hiding from their own voice.'
'Low blow.' But she's grinning. 'Also, my cap is perfectly sized.'
'For what? Smuggling library books?'
'That's... oddly specific.'
'Says the person who just quoted Walt Whitman in a cafe.'
You find the gelato place tucked between a bookstore and a vintage shop. The owner, an elderly Italian woman, lights up at your approach.
'Due?' she asks.
'Sì,' you reply, then turn to Karina. 'What's your poison?'
She studies the flavors intently. 'What's the most unusual one?'
'Professional or personal answer?'
'There's a difference?'
'Professional would be something elegant. Personal...' You point to a vivid blue flavor. 'That one tastes like your childhood imaginary friend made a pact with a Smurf.'
She doesn't hesitate. 'Two scoops of that, please.'
'Really?'
'What?' She raises an eyebrow. 'Scared of a little blue tongue?'
'More scared of what my editor will say when the interview notes are stained cerulean.'
Ten minutes later, you're both leaning against a stone wall, gelato dripping in the warm evening air. Her tongue is, indeed, impressively blue.
'Yah! Why are you taking a picture?”
'Your tongue. I need photographic evidence for my editor.'
She complains, ‘self-respecting people would’ve walked a long time ago.’
‘And let me guess-’
‘Correct. Take a picture if you want.’
'Pulitzer worthy.' You take another bite of your considerably more dignified pistachio. 'So tell me about the sharks.'
'You're still on that?'
'You brought up marine biology in a cafe and then mysteriously changed the subject. I'm invested now.'
'There's nothing mysterious about it.' She licks a drop of blue from her knuckle. 'I just think they're neat.'
'That's the worst deflection yet.'
'Fine.' She pushes off the wall, starting to walk. 'When I was younger, I used to think they were lonely.'
You fall into step beside her. 'Sharks?'
'Mm. Always swimming, never stopping. Everyone afraid of them.' She shrugs. 'Stupid kid logic.'
'And now?'
'Now I think they're just... misunderstood.' She grins. 'That was terrible, wasn't it? Like a bad movie line.'
'Terrible. But honest.'
'You and your honesty fetish.'
'Says the person who just admitted to emotionally relating to sharks.'
She snorts, nearly dropping her cone. 'When you put it that way—'
'Oh, I'm definitely putting it that way. It's going in the book.'
'Absolutely not.'
'Chapter title: "The Shark Whisperer”. I can see it already'
She tries to hip-check you, but you dodge, protecting your gelato. 'I'm revoking your creative license.'
'Too late. The mental image of baby Jimin crying over shark documentaries is seared into my brain.'
'I did not cry over—' She stops. 'Okay, maybe once. But it was a very sad documentary.' [1]
The sun is setting now, painting the cobblestones gold. You pass a street musician playing something soft and acoustic.
'Your sister know about the sharks?'
'Of course. She bought me the books.' Her smile turns fond. 'Still does, actually. Sends them to me randomly.'
'Recent ones?'
'Last week.' She finishes her cone. 'She has... interesting timing.'
'Interesting timing?'
'Mm.' She wipes her hands on a napkin. 'Right after I told her about the interview. She sent me one about great whites. Said something about facing fears.'
'Subtle.'
'About as subtle as your interview techniques.' She eyes your notebook, still tucked away. 'Not writing anymore?'
'Memory's better when I'm walking.' You tap your temple. 'Also, harder to write about blue tongues while walking.'
'Still blue?'
'Devastatingly so.'
She sticks her tongue out at a passing window, checking her reflection. 'Oh god, it's worse than I thought.'
'Crisis?'
'Please. I once had to perform with my hair half-green because of a dye mishap. This?' She gestures to her mouth. 'This is nothing.'
'Half-green?'
'Not going in the book.'
'Already mentally drafting the chapter.'
She groans. 'I'm starting to regret this whole walking thing.'
'Because of the blackmail material or the exercise?'
'Both. Neither.' She pauses by a small fountain. 'It's just... nice.'
'Nice?'
'Yeah.' She sits on the fountain's edge. 'No schedule. No plan. Just... walking and talking and eating questionably colored gelato with a stranger who probably thinks I'm having a quarter-life crisis.'
'Are you?'
'Having a crisis or eating gelato?'
'Now who's deflecting?'
And she pauses again, caught.
She dips her fingers in the fountain water, watching the ripples. 'Maybe I just wanted one normal evening. One conversation that wasn't prepackaged and pre-approved.'
'Mission accomplished, I'd say. Your tongue is literally blue.'
That startles a laugh out of her. 'You're never letting that go, are you?'
'It's going to be a running metaphor throughout the book. Deep, meaningful parallels between blue gelato and the human condition.'
'You're terrible at your job.'
'I'm excellent at my job. I got you to walk around Rome with blue teeth.'
'Is that the measure of success?'
'For this chapter? Absolutely.'
The street lamps are starting to flicker on, and the air has that peculiar Roman evening warmth that begs for a drink.
'Know any good bars?' she asks, as if reading your mind.
'Thought you'd never ask[2]. Fair warning though—my Italian's terrible.'
'Better or worse than your interview skills?'
'Much worse. But I can order Aperol Spritz in seventeen different ways.'
'Useful life skill.'
'More useful than relating to sharks.'
She shoves your shoulder lightly. 'One more shark joke and I'm leaving.'
'No, you're not.'
'No, I'm not.' She grins. 'Lead the way, worst Italian speaker.'
You find a tiny place tucked away from the main streets. The kind tourists don't know about, with mismatched chairs and a bartender who looks old enough to have served Caesar himself.
'Due aperol spritz, per favore.' You ask.
The bartender raises an eyebrow. 'Americano? Il tuo italiano è buono!' (your Italian was… apparently… good.)
'Peggio,' you say. 'Giornalista'
(‘Worse. Journalist.’)
He laughs, already reaching for glasses. Karina slides onto a barstool, looking around with genuine curiosity.
‘He seems pretty impressed by your Italian.’
‘Oh trust me—he wasn’t. He just wanted to be nice. That’s all. The inflections are quite easy to catch.’
‘Alright, whatever you say. Giornalista—.'
You grin at her cute prod.
'How'd you find this place?' She asks; needless to say, she likes it here.
'Got lost my first night here––five years ago. It was either come in or keep pretending I knew where my hotel was.'
'And?'
'Woke up knowing exactly where my hotel was. And how to say "I'm sorry" in Italian.'
She laughs. 'That bad?'
'Let's just say there's a reason I stick to green tea now.'
The drinks arrive, vivid orange against the dark wood of the bar.
'To blue tongues,' you raise your glass.
'And bad Italian,' she clinks hers against it.
[1] The documentary in question was "Blue Planet II." Her sister still has the receipt for three boxes of tissues and a plush shark from the aquarium gift shop. The plush shark now sits in her studio, wearing a tiny version of her debut outfit. Her company has tried to mass-produce it twice. She's vetoed it both times.
[2] You were never this humble about your Italian until you talked to an Italian nonna. "Qui giace la dignità di un giornalista" (Here lies a journalist's dignity).
'Speaking of bad decisions—'
'We weren't.'
'We are now. Tell me about the green hair incident.'
'Absolutely not.' She takes another sip of her spritz. 'Some secrets I'm taking to my grave.'
'Come on. Half-green hair? There's got to be a story there.'
'There is. A great one. You're still not hearing it.'
'I'll trade you.'
'Oh?' She turns on her stool to face you fully. 'What could you possibly have that's worth my green hair story?'
'Remember when I said I learned to say sorry in Italian?'
'The plot thickens.'
'Let's just say it involved a fountain, three angry nuns, and a very patient carabinieri.'
She nearly chokes on her drink. 'You're making that up.'
'Want to bet your green hair story on it?'
'You know what?' She signals the bartender for another round. 'Fine. But if you're lying, you're buying drinks for the rest of the night.'
'Deal.'
'And no taking notes.'
'Now that's just cruel.'
'Professional hazard,' she mimics your earlier tone, then grins. 'Okay, storyteller. Dazzle me.'
The bartender sets down fresh drinks, and you lean in conspiratorially. 'So picture this: my first night in Rome, about five years ago...'
'Wait.' She holds up a hand. 'We need to establish stakes. If this story doesn't involve all three elements—fountain, nuns, and police—you're not only buying drinks, you're telling me where you actually learned to say sorry in Italian.'
'Counter-offer. If my story checks out, I get the green hair story plus whatever happened at that music show in Busan.'
Her eyes narrow. 'What music show in Busan?'
'The one you just reacted to.'
'That's... that's actually impressive.'
'Five years of professional nosiness at work. Deal?'
She clinks her glass against yours. 'Deal. Now stop stalling.'
'Right. So. Five years ago. I'd just finished an interview with this ancient countess at the bar. I mean, it’s the bar. Who else gets to interview a countess at a bar? That’s like crazy Bourdain-level shit right there.’
She nods along. 'Of course you did.'
'Anyway, she invited me to this wine cellar...'
'Oh no.'
'Oh yes. And mind you, I was already quite drunk. And she was very, very insistent about hospitality...'
Twenty minutes and much laughter later, you finish: '...and that's why you should never trust Google Translate to help you apologize to Italian law enforcement.'
She's wiping tears from her eyes. 'The part with the cat—'
'Hand to god. Still have the scars.'
'Okay.' She catches her breath. 'Okay, you win. That was worth it.'
'Time to pay up. Green hair. Spill.'
'Can I have one more drink first?'
'For courage?'
'So I can blame it on the drink.' She waves at the bartender. 'I still can't believe you showed those nuns your interview notes to prove you weren't a street performer.'
'Desperate times.'
'Speaking of desperate...' She takes a fortifying sip of her fresh spritz. 'Ever tried to fix green hair with grape juice?'
'No.'
'Don't.'
'There has to be more to this story than grape juice.'
'Oh, there's so much more.' She settles into her seat. 'Picture this: it's two hours before a live broadcast. I'm sitting in the makeup chair, feeling pretty good about life. You know, like that particular moment where your face just… shines. Then my stylist walks in, takes one look at my hair, and just... screams.'
'Screams?'
'Full horror movie scream. Turns out the hair dye we used was... let's say "not exactly approved by management."'
'Let me guess. DIY job?'
'Worse. My sister's friend's cousin who "totally went to beauty school."'
'Oh no.' You snort, taking a hefty drink of the remaining spritz.
'Oh yes. So there I am, one side of my head this bizarre shade of swamp-thing green, and everyone's running around like it's the end of the world.'
'Which is when someone suggested grape juice?'
'Actually, that was my idea.' She grimaces. 'I'd read somewhere that grape juice could neutralize green tones. What they failed to mention was that this works for swimming pools, not hair.' [1]
'So what happened?'
'Picture a very expensive wig, three cans of dry shampoo, and me trying to explain to the camera director why I couldn't turn my head to the left.'
'Did it work?'
'Define "work."' She takes another sip. 'If by "work" you mean "did I make it through the broadcast without anyone seeing the grape-juice-tinged disaster," then yes. If by "work" you mean "did I maintain any dignity," then absolutely not.'
'The fans never found out?'
'Oh, they did. Someone leaked a backstage photo three months later.' She grins. 'By then I'd managed to fix it. Mostly.'
'Mostly?'
'My sister still has a strand of green hair she saved. Threatens to post it whenever I don't answer her calls.'
'Effective.'
'Terrifying.' She raises her glass. 'Your turn again. What's the worst interview you've ever done?'
'Besides this one?'
She kicks your chair. 'I'm delightful and you know it.'
'You're something, all right.'
Three drinks in, and the bar's emptied enough that her laugh echoes a little too loudly. She covers her mouth, but it's too late – the old bartender shoots them an amused look.
'Sorry,' she stage-whispers.
'For what? The laugh or the fact that it just shattered three ancient Roman wine glasses?'
'Shut up.' She kicks your chair again. 'I don't always laugh like that.'
'Let me guess – there's a public laugh and a private laugh?'
'There's a whole taxonomy.' She sits up straighter, counting on her fingers. 'Interview laugh, variety show laugh, fan meeting laugh, oh-that's-not-actually-funny-but-you're-my-sunbae laugh—'
'Please tell me you're joking.'
'I wish.' She slumps forward, head on her arms. 'I once had to attend a laughing seminar.'
'A what now?'
'A laughing seminar. Professional instruction on the art of the public giggle.' Her voice is muffled against her sleeve. 'There was a PowerPoint and everything.'
'You're making this up.'
She lifts her head. 'I spent three hours learning about laugh-adjacent breathing techniques while a woman named Mrs. Kim hit a triangle every time someone laughed "inappropriately."'
You stare at her. She stares back.
'That's the most horrifying thing I've ever heard,' you say finally.
'I know.' She dissolves into another too-loud laugh, this one definitely not seminar-approved. 'God, I can still hear that triangle.'
'Is that why you're here?'
'Getting drunk with a biographer in Rome? No, that's just poor life choices.'
'Speaking honest truths to a stranger?'
'Oh.' She straightens up, but there's still something loose in her smile. 'Maybe. Or maybe I just really needed to tell someone about Mrs. Kim and her triangle of terror.'
'Triangle of terror.' You shake your head. 'That's going in the book.'
'Along with the blue tongue and green hair? You're really painting a picture here.'
'It's called character development.'
'It's called character assassination.' She signals for water. 'What else are you putting in there?'
'Wouldn't you like to know.'
'Actually, yes. That's literally why I'm asking.'
'Fine.' You pretend to flip through your mental notes. 'Chapter One: Sharks and Empathy—'
'Oh my god.'
'Chapter Two: The Grape Juice Incident—'
'I'm starting to regret everything.'
'Chapter Three: Laugh Taxonomies by Aespa’s Karina—'
'I hate you.'
'Chapter Four: Why Romans Don't Trust Her With Fountains Anymore—'
'That was you! That was literally your story!'
'Was it? Everything's getting a bit fuzzy.' You tap your temple. 'Must be all that professional memory I was bragging about earlier.'
She throws an olive at you. The bartender clears his throat.
'Sorry,' you both say in unison, then look at each other and start laughing again.
'You know what's really funny?' she says, once you've both contained yourselves.
'Mrs. Kim's triangle?'
'Besides that.' She accepts the water from the bartender. 'This is probably the worst interview you've ever done.'
'Oh, definitely.'
'And yet...'
'And yet?'
'It's the most honest one I've given.' She pauses. 'God, that sounded way less cheesy in my head. Must be the spritz talking.'
'Blame it on the altitude.'
'We're at sea level.'
'Blame it on the sea level.'
'You're ridiculous.' She's grinning though. 'Is this how all your interviews go?'
'Usually there's less gelato. More gravitas.'
'Gravitas is overrated.'
'Says the woman who attended a laughing seminar.'
'Hey, I'll have you know my triangle-approved giggle is very dignified.'
'Prove it.'
She sits up straighter, arranges her features into something serene, and lets out the most artificial laugh you've ever heard. It's so pristine it's almost disturbing.
'That was horrifying.'
'That was three hours of professional training.'
'I'm concerned about your profession.'
'Join the club.' She relaxes back into her natural posture. 'We have meetings every Tuesday. Bring your own triangle.'
The bartender slides over the check with a knowing look. Last call came and went without either of you noticing.
'Well,' you say, reaching for your wallet. 'I suppose this is—'
'Wait.' She puts her hand on your arm. 'I have a confession.'
'Another one? The green hair wasn't enough?'
'I read your book.'
'Which one?'
'The one about the ballet dancer who quit to become a motorcycle mechanic.'
'Ah.' You sit back. 'And?'
'And I maybe, possibly, completely changed my mind about this whole interview when I read it.'
'Because?'
'Because...' She fidgets with her empty glass. 'You made her sound so... human.'
'As opposed to?'
'A story. A headline.' She traces a pattern on the bar top. 'Most people would've written about the scandal, the career she "threw away." But you wrote about how she names each motorcycle she fixes. How she still dances in her garage at midnight.'
'Ah. That.'
'That.' She looks up. 'Is that why you haven't asked me about any of it?'
'Any of what?'
'Don't play dumb. The headlines. The speculation. The—'
'The triangle-approved responses you've probably rehearsed?'
She laughs, caught. 'Something like that.'
'Here's the thing about headlines.' You start gathering your things. 'They're usually more interesting than the truth.'
'And what's the truth?'
'That sometimes people just want to eat blue gelato and tell embarrassing stories in a bar and talk a biographer’s ears off.'
She kicks your chair again, barely noticeable. 'Even if those stories end up in a book?'
'Especially then.' You stand, offering her jacket. 'Though I might need you to sign a waiver about the grape juice incident.'
'I knew it! You are using it!'
'Chapter title: "The Perils of Amateur Chemistry: A Cautionary Tale."'
She shrugs on her jacket, shaking her head. 'You're impossible. That AI flair was so intentional'
'Says the woman who legitimately attended a laughing seminar.'
'I'm never living that down, am I?'
'Not as long as I have a functioning memory and a publishing contract.'
The Roman night is warm as you both step out of the bar. She stumbles slightly on the cobblestones.
You offer a hand which she quickly grabs.
'Don't you dare put that in the book,' she warns.
'Put what? The graceful interpretation of contemporary dance you just performed?'
'These streets are rigged.' She steadies herself. 'Also, your hotel's this way.'
'How do you know where my hotel is?' You’re not exactly one to remember locations, probably the reason you were able to gain such a repository of ridiculous stories.
'Because it's my hotel.' She grins at your expression. 'What? You think you're the only one who does research?'
'I'm concerned about your stalking tendencies.'
'Says the person who somehow knew about the Busan incident.'
'Professional hazard.'
'You really need new catchphrases.'
The walk is quiet, comfortable. Rome at night feels like a different city—all golden lights and shadow play. A cat watches you pass from its perch on a window sill.
'Don't even think about it,' she says.
'About what?'
'Making some poetic comparison between me and that cat.'
'Please. I'm a much better writer than that.'
'Sure you are, shark whisperer.'
You reach the hotel entrance. She pauses.
'Well,' she says. 'This has been...'
'Professionally catastrophic?'
'I was going to say enlightening.'
'That too.'
The hotel lobby is all marble and soft lighting. Your footsteps echo slightly.
'I have a balcony,' she says suddenly. 'And a really pretentious coffee machine I can't figure out.'
'Is this a cry for help with appliances?'
'This is...' She fidgets with her room key. 'This is me not wanting the interview to end yet.'
'The interview ended somewhere between blue gelato and the triangle story.'
'Then what's this?'
‘Believe or not, some people just like having fun on their Italian vacation.’
‘Haha. Very funny.’
'This is...' You pretend to consider. 'Two people who might be friends if one of them wasn't writing a book about the other.'
'Complicated.'
'Professional hazard.'
'There's that phrase again.' She presses the elevator button. 'Come on. I'll teach you how to laugh properly.'
'With or without the triangle?'
She steps into the elevator. 'Depends on how good you are at making coffee.'
'Now who's the impossible one?'
The doors start to close. She holds them.
'Coming?'
You join her in the elevator. 'For the record, I'm excellent at coffee.'
'For the record,' she mimics your tone, 'that's going in the book.'
Her room is on the top floor, with a view that makes you understand why people write poetry about Rome.
'So,' she says, fighting with the coffee machine. 'This button makes it angry, and this one makes it hiss.'
'Move over, amateur.' You reach around her to press a combination of buttons. The machine purrs to life.
'Show off.' But she's smiling as she heads for the balcony. 'Bring your coffee wizardry out here when it's ready.'
The balcony is small, just enough room for two chairs and all of Rome spread out below. She's curled up in one chair, shoes off, looking more real than she has all day.
'Your professional opinion,' she says as you hand her a cup. 'Is this going to be a good book?'
'Depends.'
'On?'
'On whether you let me keep the shark metaphors.'
She laughs into her coffee. 'You're never letting that go.'
'Never.' You take the other chair. 'Though I might be willing to negotiate.'
'Terms?'
'Tell me something nobody knows. Something that won't make the book.'
She's quiet for a moment, looking out at the city lights. 'I sing in the shower.'
'Everybody knows that.'
'No, I mean...' She turns to face you. 'I sing the old songs. The ones I used to practice when I was just some kid in Bundang with a dream too big for my voice.'
'And?'
'And sometimes I still feel like her. That kid. Especially at night, in foreign hotels, when the city feels like it belongs to someone else.'
'Especially at night, in foreign hotels, when the city feels like it belongs to someone else.'
'Wow.' You let out a low whistle. 'That was incredibly profound.'
She groans, covering her face. 'I know. I'm sorry. That was straight out of a drama script.'
'I was thinking more indie movie. You know, the kind where people have deep conversations on balconies in Rome at—' you check your watch, '—one in the morning.'
'Oh god, we're living a cliché.'
'Complete with coffee and two chairs overlooking Rome.'
'Quick,' she straightens up, 'say something unprofound. Save us from ourselves.'
'My tongue is still kind of blue.'
She peeks at you over her coffee cup. 'Mine too.'
'Better?'
'Much better.' She slouches back in her chair. 'Though now I'm thinking about how this would look in your book. "Two idiots with blue tongues have existential crisis on expensive balcony."'
'Don't forget the part where one of them somehow charmed a coffee machine.'
'And the other one used to sing in her shower.'
'Still,' you correct. 'Present tense.'
'Still,' she admits. 'But if you put that in your book, I'll have to tell everyone about your fountain incident.'
'Mutually assured destruction. I like it.'
She yawns, then looks embarrassed. 'Sorry. It's not the company, it's—'
'The five Aperol Spritzes?'
'That. And the emotional toll of remembering Mrs. Kim's triangle.'
'Tragic backstory,' you nod solemnly. 'Very character-building.'
'Speaking of character-building...' She sets down her empty cup, turns to face you fully. 'This is usually the part in your books where something significant happens.'
'Is it?'
'Mm. Chapter twelve. Always a turning point.'
'You really did read my books.'
'I told you that already.' She's closer now, somehow. 'What I didn't mention was that I figured out your pattern.'
'My pattern?'
'The way you write moments like this.' Her voice is soft. 'When everything gets quiet, and the city's just background noise, and someone's about to do something...'
'Inadvisable?'
'I was going to say brave.'
'Brave is just inadvisable with better PR.'
She laughs, barely a whisper. 'You're deflecting again.'
'Professional—'
'If you say "hazard" right now,' she cuts in, 'I'm going to throw you off this balcony.'
'That would be...'
'Inadvisable?'
'I was going to say "terrible for my book sales."'
She's definitely closer now. 'Your book sales are about to be the least of your problems.'
'Because you're going to kiss me or throw me off the balcony?'
'I haven't decided yet.'
'Well,' you murmur, 'for what it's worth, one of those options would make a much better chapter twelve.'
She closes the distance between you, smiling against your lips. 'Professional hazard.'
You and Karina shared an instant spark that neither of you had experienced. Ever. The moment that first tease left your mouth, it was over.
[1] The sentiment of grape juice being able to eliminate green tones turned out to be completely unfounded. Despite this, wine sommeliers around the world have complained about Koreans with their distinct accent asking about grape juice’s ability to change colors.
The kiss tastes like coffee and Aperol and something sweet—probably the remnants of that ridiculous blue gelato. It's soft and quiet and perfect, the kind of moment that would sound made up in a book.
She pulls back slightly. 'Your editor's going to hate this.'
'Definitely.' You tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. 'Completely unprofessional.'
'Thoroughly inadvisable.'
'Absolutely perfect for chapter twelve.'
She kisses you again, and Rome keeps existing below, indifferent to your small moment of magic. Somewhere in the distance, a church bell chimes twice.
'You know,' she whispers, 'this is usually where you'd write something profound about the city of love.'
'That's Paris.'
'Now who's deflecting?'
'Still you. But I'm starting not to mind.'
She laughs, soft and real—definitely not triangle-approved—and rests her forehead against yours, your breaths intermixing, plenty of intimate eye contact. 'Is this going in the book?'
'What do you think?'
'I think...' Her fingers find yours. 'I think some stories we get to keep for ourselves.'
'I think some stories we get to keep for ourselves.'
'Even after I charmed your coffee machine? That's cold.'
She makes a face. 'You're really bringing up coffee machine prowess right after—'
'Right after you thoroughly compromised my journalistic integrity? Yes.'
'Your journalistic integrity was compromised the moment you let me eat blue gelato.'
'My journalistic integrity was compromised the moment I saw you.' You run your thumb across her knuckles.
Her eye contact wavers and her voice falters, ‘Gosh, you’re such a player.’
‘Flirting has never come so easily before.’ You whisper against her mouth.
'Oh really?'
'Obviously.'
'Which was?'
'Stare at that blue tongue some more.’'
She shoves you lightly. 'You're terrible.'
'And yet.'
'And yet.' She settles on your lap, the forehead to forehead more natural now. 'So what happens now?'
'Well, traditionally, this is where I'd write something about dawn breaking over the eternal city—'
'Please don't.'
'—with golden light catching on ancient stones—'
'I'm begging you to stop.'
'—as two souls find each other under the Roman sky—'
She claps a hand over your mouth. 'I will literally pay you to not finish that sentence.'
You kiss her palm before she pulls it away. 'Isn't that technically bribery?'
'Add it to the list. Right after "compromised journalistic integrity" and "suspicious coffee machine expertise."'
'Speaking of compromising situations...' You glance at your watch. 'It's almost three AM.'
'Worried about your reputation?'
'Worried about your triangle-approved schedule.'
'Bold of you to assume I ever sleep.' She stands, stretching. 'Want to order terrible room service and you can tell me about all the other journalists you've scandalized?'
'That's a very short list. Very enticing regardless.’
'Good.' She holds out her hand.
The night air has turned cooler, carrying the faint scent of jasmine from somewhere below. Her fingers trace the collar of your shirt, hesitant but deliberate.
'What happened to room service?' you murmur.
'It can wait.' Her eyes meet yours, playful but wanting. 'I'm conducting my own interview first.'
This kiss is different from the first. Slower, more certain. The city hums below, a distant lullaby of late-night cars and echoing footsteps. When she sighs into the kiss, it's the softest sound you've ever heard. When she falters against your forceful touches, it’s the softest you’ve ever felt a woman.
She pulls back just enough to breathe, her forehead resting against yours. Her heartbeat is quick under your palm.
'Better than chapter twelve?' she whispers.
You catch her lips again in answer, feeling her smile. The wind stirs her hair, sending strands brushing against your cheek. Everything smells like jasmine and coffee and her perfume—something subtle and expensive that you'll probably spend the rest of your life over-romanticizing.
Because that’s what Karina deserves.
Rome stretches out endless and ancient around you, but all you can focus on is how perfectly she fits against you, how real she feels away from cameras and crowds.
Your lips find hers in the dark, soft and certain now. Her fingers trail up your neck, threading through your hair, pulling you closer. There's an art to the way she kisses—deliberate yet desperate, like she's trying to memorize the moment. Your hands settle at her waist, and she makes a small sound that you know you'll remember forever.
Her lips part against yours, deepening the kiss until you're both breathless. The balcony railing presses into your back—when did that happen?—and her body is warm against yours, fitting perfectly in all the spaces between.
Her teeth graze your bottom lip, teasing. You respond by trailing kisses along her jaw, feeling her pulse jump under your lips. When you find that sensitive spot just below her ear, her sharp intake of breath makes you smile against her skin.
She pulls back just enough to meet your eyes. Her lips are slightly swollen, her careful composure beautifully undone––hair spread everywhere, but just so that she looks ethereal rather than messy. You brush your thumb across her lower lip, and she catches it with her teeth, playful even now.
‘Still planning to put this in chapter twelve?’ she whispers, breathless.
Your answer gets lost somewhere between her lips and… her lips.
Her laugh vibrates against your lips when you finally break apart. ‘We should probably—’
‘Go inside?’ Your lips find the curve of her neck again.
‘I was going to say breathe.’ But her head tilts back, giving you better access. Her pulse flutters under your kiss like a trapped bird. ‘Though inside works too.’
You pull back just enough to look at her. Hair mussed, eyes bright, that perfect composure completely undone. She's never looked more beautiful than she does right now, with the city lights catching in her eyes and her professional smile nowhere to be found.
‘What?’ she asks, suddenly self-conscious.
‘Just thinking.’
‘About?’
‘How this definitely isn't going in the book.’
Her smile turns mischievous. ‘No?’ Her fingers trace patterns on your chest. ‘Not even a little mention of how you completely forgot about journalistic integrity the moment I—’
‘Then chapter 12 would entirely consist of me betraying my profession in order to catch your lips with my teeth.’
‘Wow. You’re bad. Like, real bad.’
‘You have no idea.’
You cut her off with another kiss, swallowing her laugh. Her hands slide up your chest, around your neck, pulling you impossibly closer. The world narrows to just this: her lips on yours, her body pressed against you, the soft sounds she makes when you run your fingers down her spine.
‘Inside,’ she murmurs against your mouth. ‘Before we really give Rome something to talk about.’
You let her lead you through the balcony doors, both of you stumbling slightly, unwilling to break contact. She tastes like promises now, like stories yet to be written. Her hands are everywhere—your hair, your chest, your face – like she's trying to read you by touch alone.
‘Wait,’ you manage, as her lips find that spot below your ear that makes thinking difficult. ‘What about—’
‘If you mention room service right now,’ she warns, ‘I'm going back to my original plan of throwing you off the balcony.’
‘I was going to say 'what about your triangle-approved image?'’
She pulls back, eyes dancing. ‘Oh, that?’ Her lips brush yours, teasing. ‘I think we thoroughly compromised that at the first meeting.’
"Professional hazard?"
"Shut up," she whispers, and kisses you again.
She sighs into your mouth, a soft, vulnerable sound that makes your heart stutter.
Her fingers tangle in your hair, nails scraping lightly against your scalp, sending shivers down your spine. You walk her backward until she's pressed against the wall, her body arching into yours.
You trail kisses down her neck, learning her— the spot beneath her jaw that makes her gasp, the curve where neck meets shoulder that makes her fingers tighten in your hair. Her pulse races under your lips, a rapid drumbeat that matches your own. When you find a particularly sensitive spot, her sharp intake of breath is the sweetest sound you've ever heard.
She tugs you back up to her mouth, kissing you like she's trying to tell you something words can't capture. Her lips are soft but insistent, moving against yours with a rhythm that makes you dizzy. One of her legs hooks around yours, pulling you even closer, and you groan into her mouth.
Her hands frame your face now, thumbs stroking your cheeks as she kisses you deeper, slower, like she's trying to memorize every second. You respond in kind, pouring everything you can't say into the kiss—how beautiful she is like this, how real, how perfectly she fits against you.
When you finally break apart, you're both breathing hard. Her lips are swollen. You rest your forehead against hers, sharing the same air, neither of you willing to move away.
"Still thinking about the book?" she murmurs, voice husky.
You answer by catching her lower lip between your teeth, gentle but playful, and feel her smile against your mouth.
Her smile against your mouth turns into a soft laugh. "I'll take that as a no."
‘Take it as whatever you want.’ Your lips find her temple, her cheek, the corner of her mouth. ‘I stopped thinking about the book long ago.’
She hums contentedly, her fingers tracing patterns on the nape of your neck. ‘Good.’ Her other hand is still tangled in your shirt, keeping you close. ‘Because I have a confession.’
‘Another one?’
Instead of answering, she kisses you again, slow and deep. Her tongue traces your lower lip, and you respond by pressing her further into the wall, swallowing the small sound she makes. One of her legs is still hooked around yours, and when she shifts slightly, the new angle makes you both gasp.
‘That wasn't a confession,’ you murmur against her lips.
‘No?’ Her teeth graze your earlobe. ‘I thought I was being pretty clear.’
Your hands slide to her waist, steadying her. She's intoxicating like this, all careful control abandoned, her public persona nowhere to be found.
‘Jimin,’ you breathe, and feel her shiver at the sound of her real name.
Her response is to pull you closer, kissing you like she's trying to say everything without words. Her lips are soft but certain against yours, and you lose yourself in the feeling—the warmth of her body, the subtle scent of her perfume.
The city continues its nighttime symphony outside, but in here, the only sound is your shared breathing and the soft, desperate noises she makes when you find that sensitive spot on her neck again.
She pulls back slightly, just enough to meet your eyes. In the dim light, her gaze is soft, unguarded. Her thumb traces your lower lip.
‘What?’ you ask, voice rough.
‘I'm trying to decide something.’
"Whether to throw me off the balcony? Because I thought we moved past—"
She cuts you off with another kiss. Her hands cup your face, holding you there as she explores your mouth with a thoroughness that makes you dizzy. You respond by feeling her firm and perky ass.
‘No—,’ she moans when you break apart for air. ‘I'm trying to decide if this is real.’
Instead of answering, you trail kisses down her neck, feeling her pulse jump under your lips. Her head falls back against the wall, giving you better access. When you reach her collarbone, she makes a sound that's half-sigh, half-moan.
‘Feels real enough,’ you murmur against her skin.
Her laugh is breathy, unsteady. ‘I meant—’ She gasps as you find a particularly sensitive spot. ‘I meant this. Us. This whole night.’
You lift your head to look at her. Her lips are swollen from kissing, her carefully styled hair a mess from your fingers. She's never looked more beautiful.
‘If you think I did all of this for the fun of it, you’re clearly missing something.’
‘A gear in the head?’
‘Definitely—’
‘Gosh, how do I allow this sort of petulance?’
‘Because it’s me.’
‘You’re a player.’
‘Only for you.’ You catch her lips, even more wanting—and she forfeits it all.
You pick her up, mussing up her perfect outfit, mussing up her perfect lips. And you finally throw her against the bed.
‘You’re really roughing up Prada’s global ambassador.’
‘And ambassador to a dozen other brands worth billions—couldn’t care less.’’
She smirks, and her arms open, waiting, pliant, obedient.
You rip off your buttoned shirt, tear off your pants; now, there’s truly no way of going back.
‘Wow. That scar is a lot larger than I imagined.’ She’s referring back to the scar that you received during that drunk haze of a night.
‘It was dark. Might’ve even been a lion.’
‘Mm. Heroic. Come here.’
Now, who could ever resist that?
You rip off her clothes, each layer even more decadent than the other. And then, she was there. bra barely containing her breasts, and a layer of dampness along her sexy panties.
‘That was expensive, by the way.’
‘I’ve got a payment plan on course.’
‘Mm. Enlighten me.’
You pull her panties to the side.
She’s dripping wet, nectar spooling right on her pink core. A glorious sheen that makes you stare far longer than you should’ve. She’s red-faced at this point, and her forearms cover most of her sight, and yet, she doesn’t move, doesn’t retreat.
The first lick you place, just a brush against her engorged clit, crumbles every self-regulated triangle-approved behavior she has. Two pants turn fifty, one lick crumbles everything. Her hips coax you in ways gymnasts can’t even replicate, and of course, you oblige.
Soft licks, teases around her outer lips, swollen from all the anticipation and arousal; tonguing at her inner lips, just at the crux of her clit, gets her screaming in ways her deep voice would never register; and above all, she’s orgasming, squirting, losing every pretense in favor of her built up lust.
‘Oh~fuck—’
Her fingers find purchase in your hair, and she softly pulls you in—rides your face like it was all that she ever desired: her eternal wish.
‘Ohmygod! Imcumming!’ Her voice turns mousy, and her pupils go back in pure pleasure, coupled with hip movements thought impossible: this was the greatest pleasure of her life.
You grab her chin, squeeze softly, her cheeks molding to your grasp, and you press a soft kiss right on her kiss-bruised lips. You let her taste herself on your tongue.
‘Good. Right?’
And she nods. A complete personality switch from the playfulness she displayed earlier. Delicate.
Her hands land on your boxers as she melted into your kiss. Once you felt her palm your cock, you groaned right in her ear. She starts softly, stroking. But her strokes grow more all-encompassing as you press harder into the kiss.
‘Fuck. You’re so good for me.’
She mewls back, on the gradient slide of unadulterated pleasure.
Softly, you release your shaft from the boxer. And you press your cock right on her core. Feeling the wet heat, the sticky nectar that pooled to a mindbreaking degree.
‘It goes without saying.’
‘That I’m head over heels for you?’
You grin, ‘Well, that too, but you’re hopeless.’
‘Maybe if we weren’t so compatible.’
You grab a breast, palming it, ‘Well that, that too, goes without saying.’
She smiles, so warmly, every trace of everything else melted off her face––the sort of smile you’d never forget, and the sort of smile you’d want to wake up to… forever.
Finally, you press into her, and her wet heat envelops you, enough to make you groan, enough to make her moan like there’s no greater pleasure––because really, there’s nothing else.
Her pussy clings onto you, a wet suction that is immeasurably soft and yet, a vacuum-seal-like tightness that gets you groaning after every thrust.
Her arms cling to you, and her eyebrows knit, her small face full of emotion—all of it processing how good you fuck her.
‘Oh god. Would it be bad that I want you to declare to the world that you own me?”
‘Chapter 12—’
She cuts you off, ‘Something along the lines of: “Chapter 12: Karina is my fuckslut”’
‘I don’t tolerate Karina disrespect.’ You say, truthfully.
‘Even if it’s by myself?’
‘Especially for that case, sweetheart.’
‘Oh… you’re too good.’
‘You’re blind.’
Most popular idol in the world, and… she’s hopelessly down bad for you.
‘If I’m blind. Then you don’t have eyes—complete darkness.’
‘We’re two of the same.’
‘I’m your biggest fan.’
‘We’re two of the same.’
‘I love you.’
‘You have a way with words, Karina.’ You reply, pressing soft kisses along her jaw, whispering sweet nothings into her ear, thrusting into her harder, sharing breaths.
‘You’ve inspired me.’
And you lock lips with her, the thrusts were becoming a blur, and her moans music to your ears—it was all just… heaven.
There was no technique. Nothing too purposeful. It was all just pure affection, pure love guiding all your actions. And the fact that she’s cumming again was no coincidence.
‘Oh. My. Fucking. God!’ Her head goes back deep into the pillow and you follow suit. Pressing soft kisses that covered every square centimeter of her beauty, kisses that made her giggle even in her most orgasmic moment of her life.
‘If I knew anything that felt like this… I’d be doing it constantly.’
‘Well—’
‘That’s right,’ Karina gives a soft peck, ‘I have you now.’
You could feel her heartbeat, her skin precipitate, and her cunt pulse—it’s just heaven at this point.
‘Are you trying to convince me to follow you?’
‘2 years, finest in New York.’
‘Deal. Though you overbid a little.’
‘Meaning?’
‘Means anything you want, dear.’
The soft slick of her cunt made it nearly frictionless, just pure pleasure for both parties. Her hips gave way every time, an identity of its own, retreating when you thrust too hard, giving in when softer.’
‘Is this like a sugar mommy situation?’
‘Two words I never expected you to say.’ You both share a laugh.
‘I mean that’s what it is right?’
‘A power imbalance? Please. I can get you to buy a New York penthouse for me at this point.’
‘Well. You’re right. But—’
You bring your cock to the hilt inside of her, whilst stealing her lips for a deep kiss. She moans and mewls and gasps—music to your ears. You change positions. You bring her legs to your shoulders, and you begin kissing along her ankle while thrusting inside of her.
This time, you can see the full view. How her breasts bounce against the thrusts, how her slick has completely covered your entire length at this point, and how beautifully her face is framed between it all.
Her mouth’s agape, moaning, giggling intermittently with the jokes shared through eye contact. You bite softly at her ankle then down her legs, to her calves, then releasing her legs altogether to kiss her again.
She fits perfectly against you, small and delicate but the perfect puzzle piece under you. She’s absorbent, aware of your needs, placing soft kisses along the ridges of your eyebrows, rubbing away the day’s fatigue along your jaw and temple.
‘I love you.’
‘I love you too.’
‘I didn’t hear.’
You press against her, feeling her breasts spool against your chest, bring your thrust to the hilt, the wetness of her loins pressed against yours, all of them vividly apparent. ‘I love your beauty. I love your humor. I love how clever you are. I love how authentic you are. And I could continue on and on but I’m about to cum.’
Karina sniffled, ‘God, I was about to cry and then you say that.’ She softly smacks your shoulder, ‘just cum inside me and let’s cuddle.’
You oblige, the thrusts turn into a haze of pure pleasure, a desperate moment chasing the local maxima, and finally, you burst inside of her. Cum spooled, all inside her, and she moans so gracefully, staring at you with all the affection in the world.
‘We can worry about this tomorrow.’ She palmed your jaw.
‘Of course.’ You fall onto her, cuddling her.
Both of you are a mess, gross, bodily fluids spread everywhere, and yet, the both of you fell into a deep slumber.
A/N: I'd like to apologize for switching up styles so much (But if you enjoyed this dialogue-heavy work, then lmk!)

Warnings: Dub-con (reader isn't aware of the sexual attraction to them), masturbation, lewd art, mentions of fatphobia, groping, stealing, sexism, questionable group hierarchy, misogyny, Pete Dinunzio.
AN: I promised Eltingville and I will deliver, even if i usually only do OC stuff. I'm so hot for these dork bitches, especially Pete Dinunzio. He owns. My. Ass. (PS, Eltingville girls please let me into your club, leave some comments because I'm working on characterization and the fics in this community are so good!)🙏
Tumblr media
It's yet another argument, the sounds of heated yells and complaints ringing through the wood panneled walls and up the sbasement stairs of the Dickey household, as another meeting of the Eltingville club kicks off. "Don't even think about it." Bill Dickey, infamous narcissistic leader of the Eltingville club for comics, games, and all things nerdy, has started the meeting already pissed off. "Fuck no, we aren't letting some c-chick into our club! A femoid! Are you serious? Just drop it, Pete." He spits, face red and glasses slipping. He adjusts them as the others glance at Pete.
Across Bill's mom's basement, horror expert Pete Dinunzio, clad in his backwards cap and questionably stained 'House of Wax' shirt, rest on a beanbag. Huffing, the black haired man rolls over, glaring. "Come ooooooon, it's not like she's gonna fuck anything up. Just- I don't know, she's showing interest. Check it," he stands up, shoes hitting the dhag carpeting and clapping his hands together like he's gonna give the best social studies presentation of his freakin' life.
"She's showing interest, you see any other girls lining up to join, shit, to even talk to us. Especially not girls with a big fucking rack-" He cackles, raising his hand for a high-five with a quiet Jerry stokes, who is simultaneously red and sheet white, sweating out of nerves.
"Gross man, get a mop!" Pete snickers, pulling his hand away quickly.
"Jerry-" The blonde immediately squeaks at the mention of his name, shifting on the creaky old tweed couch. He had been absorbed in his journal, trying to stay out of the fight. He knew who you were, shit, who in town didn't? You moved down the road a few weeks ago, and seemed genuinely nice. You immediately made friends at the school, kind and outgoing, but not discriminating. You didn't stick to one clique or group, and it didn't help you were smokin' hot. You have math together, and he's falling behind. He can't seem to think around you, his math notes full of doodles of you, slowly turning far to lewd to turn in.
It's then he clears his throat to answer Bill's call out, only noticing that his journal he's been distracting himself is also full of doodles of you. He'd been so zoned out he'd drawn you with elf ears, laid out wearing a fantastical silk robe, but no loincloth-
"Jerry!" Another screech from Bill. "Pay attention, you numbskull! You finally chew your tongue off being a pussy, answer me."
"Sorry, sorry, w-what was the question?" His voice cracks, making Pete and Josh chuckle at the scrawny boy. Bill rolls his eyes, adjusting his glasses as he slams his hand down on the table
"Obviously, you agree we don't need some skank in the club, we don't even know what she's after."
"She's not that bad, actually-" he mumbles, making Bill growls and Pete nod in agreement, snapping and pointing to Jerry. "Exactly, and again, that fuckin' rack-"
"NO GIRLS!" Slamming his fists onto the table, the cheap wood rattles, as does the nearby shelves, causing a picture frame and a few figures to clatter to the ground.
"Geordi!" Josh cries as he goes to nurse the action figure back to 'mint condition' who had lost its visors when it took the plunge onto the rough carpet below. "Bill, this was new-in-box with I got it, what the fuck!"
"Exactly! The femoid isn't here and she's already causing issues. Case closed." The acne-ridden president grins and intertwines his fingers on the table in satisfaction. "I'm glad to hear you agree, and are putting the good name of the Eltingville club over the wants of your shrimp dick, unlike some people-" He glares at Pete, who just flips him off and goes back to reading a 'Gore Four' comic.
"Onto actually important business-"
It isn't until a few days later that you run into Bill, he's looking through the window of the blockbuster in concentration way to deep for any normal person.
"Hey, Bill, right?" You chirp, causing him to jolt, his billfold falling from his yellow overcoat. "Sorry, didn't mean to spook you!" You reach for the leather, only to feel a harsh sting on your hand as he swats you away picks it up, grumbling to himself as he pockets it.
"Right. I guess we do." He looks you over. "Did you need something, or are you just here to bother me?" He sneers.
"Oh, uh, no, just going to rent a movie, wanted to see what you were looking at?"
"Ugh. Nothing you'd be interested in." He turns back, looking at two posters for films avaliable to rent. "If it'll make you fuck off, I'm deciding whether to spend my allowance money on 'Return of the King' or 'Alien'." He explains, waving his wallet in front of you before pocketing it. "Only the best for the club, Pete's been on my ass about Alien, but Jerry cries like a little bitch boy when we watch horror sci-fi."
"Sounds like a tough choice. Uh, I like return of the king though!" She says.
He looks you over, pausing before shaking his head. "Yeah, heh, right. Sure, you've seen any 'Lord of the Rings' film. Listen, you don't have to pretend you know what I'm talking about to continue whatever this is, I'm not buying it." Before you can respond, the sound of a ringtone catches your ear, and Bill reluctantly answers it.
"Hurry up, man, how long does it take to pick out a tape? Josh's lard ass is gonna starve before you get back here and we can eat-" Pete's Italian accent crackles through the speakers, followed by the sound of an open palm smacking the back of his head. "Fuck off, man, I'm messin' around-"
"Knock it off, don't get kicked outta my basement before I get there. I'm on my way." He clicks it shut. He spares you a glance as he walks into the store, anger and tension only fuels when he gets a glimpse of your cleavage. He just clears his throat and turns away.
He settles on 'Alien', because screw Jerry, he wants to end the night off with Sigourney Weaver's jugs still fresh in mind for jerk material. Smacking the tape down, he glares at the usual attendant, who just sighs and gives him a dead eyed stare. "5.72, be kind and rewind-"
"Yeah, yeah. Don't give the spiel, you corporate cronie." Bill hisses, before opening up his wallet and paling. There's nothing but a Star Trek fan club card inside, his money missing. He remembers the fight he'd gotten into with his mom a few nights ago over her throwing out his 'busty babes of Babylon' mag, and gulps. She'd taken back his allowance. "Uh- hold on, hang on-" he's frantic now. "Its gotta be in here somewhere-" the sound of coins and crinkling paper hitting the counter makes him look over.
"I got it!" You say with a smile, about six dollars in bills and loose change. "I mean, you seemed like you put a whole lot of thought into that-"
He's too stunlocked to even speak, both emasculated and embarrassed at his financial situation. The attendant looks you over, then back at Bill. "Are... are you sure?" He asks, snapping Bill out of it.
"Of course she's sure, check out the fucking tape." Bill practically shoves the money towards you. "Corporate cock-sucker can't even do his job." He shakes his head. "What are you getting at, huh? Trying to make me look like some broke scrub or something?!"
"N-no!" You exclaim. "I just wanted to help you out-"
"Yeah right." He snorts and rolls his eyes, crossing his arms. "Listen up, I don't know what you're trying to do but it ends here. I don't do 'debt', so name your price. Settle it."
"Well..." You scuffing your shoe again the blue and yellow blockbuster tile, shrugging. "Maybe since I bought it, I could watch with you guys? Joining a club could be fun, and I've read a few comics and stuff. Plus, I like movies."
Bill goes pale, palms sweaty and eyes wide. "Shit..." he huffs. "No girls, no females in the club, that's our most consistent rule. I don't need you, i don't know, sissying up the place. Something else."
"Cmon, please, no, I won't be weird, just this once!"
"F-fine. But you're not a member!" He says, jabbing a finger against your chest before recoiling it like he was burned. That was about the closest he's ever gotten to a tit, his digital still tingling. It's humiliating. "Just be there, you know where I live." He rushes off, tape held suspiciously low by his crotch.
It's hell. Pure, frozen hell when you arrive. Josh is fidgeting with the deck of Magic he was sorting when you came in, not even making eye contact while he has a panicked, hushed conversation with Bill about how this even happened. He's both extremely suspicious and extremely giddy, whereas Pete is just giddy.
You were so enthralled in looking around the nerd cave, everything from 'Star-Trek Next Gen' posters to scantily clad 'Cat-Woman' figures line the walls and shelves. Good thing you were so focused on it all, it gave Jerry time to scurry over to the bean bag, unzipping it and shoving his journal into the Styrofoam beans in a state of pure panic.
"Hey, hot-stuff! Didn't expect to see you, lookin' fine tonight." Pete calls, hand to his mouth as if amplifying it. You've run into Pete a few times when you were dodging PE behind the bleachers, and he never fails to try and make a move. "Hey, couch is gonna be pretty full with Josh's fat ass, why don't you sit on my lap for the movie, huh? I'll protect you from the Alien, don't even worry bout' it." He winks.
"I'll find room, Pete, but thanks for the offer." You laugh. Plopping down, you set your bag aside and lean over the arm a bit. "Hey, Jerry." You say, before looking away after he refuses to respond, or even make eye contact. "Okay..."
"Why is she here? This has gotta be a prank?" Josh whispers, sweating as he rubs at his forehead. "Whyd you let her come, I-I thought the rule was no girls!"
"It was, i-it is! She's a normie femoid, but my bitch mom took my allowance, she covered so we could watch the movie tonight. Grin and bare it, yeah? I'm sure you can resist from popping a stiffy for at least two hours. And it's not you I'm worried about, it's these idiots." Bill nods over to the clubs resident fantasy nerd, whose taken to lying face, and crotch, down in the bean bag while Pete quizzes you on horror flicks.
It's uneventful, if not for the tension looming in the air between you and the guys. Throughout the evening, Bill tries his best to ignore you, or to shush Josh when he leans over to provide you an awkward fun fact about the films production. Jerry stays quiet, but appreciates how you seem to make him feel better about being scared by the film than dogging on him. "Huh? O-oh, yeah, no, I'm not great with movies like these, but uh-" He'd stammer. "I'm not like a pussy or anything, I've just had an offer day, I'm high stress."
Pete is relishing in it, constantly commenting on the 'alien-fighting hotties' in the film, before making sure you know he doesn't like them as much as you. "Nothing against these babes, you know, but they don't have an ass like yours-"
At the end of the night; when everyone has cleared out, you stop in the door frame, turning to smile. "Thanks a lot for letting me stay and watch, Bill." You say softly. "This was fun."
He's silent, hand gripping the door frame hard enough it might splinter. He'd done you the decency of walking you to the door, to your suprise. "Yeah. We'll, don't expect too much. You're still a normie. Get off my porch, I don't want people thinking we hang out." You just sighs and wave goodnight with a slight grin.
He's angry, he hasn't felt things like this in a long, long time. He shouldn't like you, you're nothing special, you're hot, but just some brainless poser girl from school, probably friends with jocks and cheer-whores. Still, why did his heart leap when you brushed his hand getting popcorn? Why did he want you sitting next to him and not that 'loudmouth perv whose ruining the tension of the scene'.
He finds himself laying on his bed, the squeaky, worn out mattress creaking. He'd lock up the basement and then his door, he's rock hard and is sure it's Ellen Ripley's sheer tank that was doing it for him. He pops the tape in again and puts it on mute to a shot of her running, popping the button on his jeans and sighing as he settles into bed. However, running his hand from base to tip once, then twice, he finds she's not doing it for him. 'Fine,' he thinks. 'Maybe I'm in the mood for blondes'. He grabs the nearest Tasha Yar picture he has, but that's not working either.
Working his fingers around his tip, letting the precum act as a proper lubricant, the image of you in her uniform almost makes him choke. He jolts so hard he almost rips his own dick off. 'Shit-' he thinks, first from shock, then from the implications of the though. "Shit, shit, shit!" He yells allowed, chucking the picture to the wall, erection twitching again at the thought the garnered such shame. It's not like this is anything more than a chubby from a semi-attractive girl! ...Right?
A similar scene is playing out in Josh's room, the meticuloius organizers room looks as though a hurricane has hit, digging through magazines, comics and VHS covers. He's sure he's gotta have an art piece that looks like you, maybe a 'Hottest women of sci-fi' tape, or some scantily clad magic card, shit, he'd settle for a grainy background character on one of his 'Star Trek: Original Series' tapes. Something, anything. "Cmon, cmon-" he's frantic. He's not as ashamed as Bill. Sure, he's ashamed to be jerking it to a girl he was feet away from less than an hour ago, but he isn't ashamed that the girl was you! He can admit you were hot, and pretty nice, even if he didn't fully trust you. I mean, it's not like you're joining the club! ...Right?
Jerry doesn't need to search for material. He's got enough paper with sketches of you to count as an act of deforestation. Its his reluctance to use them that's the issue. He goes home, a beacon of self control. He's only half-hard, and doing rhythmic, calming breaths. 'Gotta put your stuff away, then straight to bed Jerry, cmon.' He thinks to himself. 'No big deal, you got this.' He does get it all out away, his wallet, his new Magic cards he brought to show Josh, and his lucky dice, all accounted for. It's when he sees his journal, which he remembered to retrieve from the beanbag, sitting there. Calling to him like the one ring. Just a peek... He slams it shut and puts in onto his dresser, laying flat on his back and dullg clothed, to afraid to even undress for fear of brushing his cock by accident and blowing the whole facade of control he has. 'Just ignore it's siren song-' the image of you, perched on a rock with a tail and breasts out, calling to him. 'Shit, no sirens, not a siren-' He whimpers. He can't help it, you wouldn't ever find out, and it's just a one time thing! It's probably just a nervous boner anyways. Looking at half-nude art he made of you is just a one time thing. "Ah~ whoo, okay, gonna be quick, mmph, whatnwould you think of this?" He whines, rubbing against the mattress for a bit of hands-off reliefm somehow that made it less bad, right? He's not technically touching himself. Practicing gently kissing his pillow while he strokes it is just him, getting some sensory stimulation! It's normal. And it's not like he's gonna see you much after this! ...Right?
Pete isn't lacking for any material, and isn't held back by shame either. He made sure you were parked on the couch right by him allll night, and every time you got up to use the bathroom, his sticky, popcorn covered hand founds it's way into your purse. That's how he ended up with his yellowed pillow covered in some shitty PINK perfume and some sticky lip gloss smeared on his cheek like you'd kissed him there. He's absolutely wrecking the pillow, in his mind there is no seperation from the fleshlight he constructed out of fabric and stuffing and your smoking body. "You like that, baby?" He mutters lowly, bucking his hips into the pillow like a dog. "Shrimp dick my ass, you can feel that in there, huh? Yeah, I'll make sure hit all the right spots, shit. Get your fuckin' legs round my waist-" he groans.
Coincidentally, after the four have finished their separate sessions, they each receive a short, to the point call from Bill on their landlines, something about the 'financial benefit' of having more member in the club, even if he'd never, ever let a girl in under normal circumstances. But, there's a lot of good stuff coming out lately, and they need as much savings as they can get. He assures them all, "Its purely business, nimrods, I'm not exactly thrilled about it." All three are too worn out to even think about how odd it is to receive a call like that at 1 am...

Extra Credit; James Potter
⇨ f! reader x james potter
⇨ summary: For seven years, James Potter and Y/N have battled for the top spot at Hogwarts—dueling in essays, out-charming each other in Charms, and exchanging biting remarks sharp enough to cut through goblin armor. But when Professor Flitwick pairs them for a final NEWT project, they’re forced to work together. As rivalry turns into tension, and tension turns into something far softer, James realizes he doesn’t just want to win anymore—he wants her.
⇨ warnings/notes: use of y/n, mutual pining, one-sided rivalry, academic rivals, lmk if I missed something!
a/n: this is inspired on a post i reblogged, i can't quite remember the username but it gave me a really good idea so credits to them!
⇨ word count: 4.2k
Tumblr media
The corridor outside Professor Flitwick’s classroom buzzed with post-exam nerves, students crowding around the enchanted parchment hovering just above eye-level, names scrawled in fine ink.
“Oi, move it, Remus—can’t see!” James shoved his way to the front, dodging Peter’s elbow and Sirius’s bored yawning. “What’s the damage?”
Remus stepped aside with a faint smirk. “You’ll love this.”
James leaned in. His eyes scanned the top of the list.
1st Place: Y/N Y/L/N — 97% 1st Place: James Potter — 97%
He groaned. Loudly. “Oh, for Merlin’s bloody beard—again?”
Y/N’s voice floated past his shoulder, honey-laced and smug. “You sound surprised, Potter.”
He spun around, already bristling. She stood there, hair pulled back with ink-stained fingers, a book tucked under her arm and a look on her face that said I already know I’m better than you, but it’s cute that you keep trying.
“I was hoping you’d finally crack under pressure and miss a question,” James said, folding his arms. “You know, let me win alone for once.”
She arched a brow. “Sorry to disappoint. But I’d rather be buried alive in centaur dung than hand you the top spot on a silver platter.”
Sirius gave a low whistle from behind them. “And they say romance is dead.”
“Shut it, Black,” they snapped in unison.
James turned back to her, expression narrowing. “Admit it. You’d die without me pushing you.”
Y/N smiled, all teeth. “I’d thrive. You’re the academic equivalent of a hangnail.”
“Elegant,” he said dryly. “You writing poetry now?”
“No, but I am writing our Charms paper alone if you don’t keep your ego in check.”
He blinked. “Our what now?”
That was when Professor Flitwick waddled out of the classroom, a parchment rolled in his hand.
“Excellent work this term, everyone! For your final project, you’ll be working in pairs—chosen at random, of course!”
Y/N and James both stiffened.
“Please tell me he’s joking,” she hissed under her breath.
James was already shaking his head. “You’ve got to be kidding me. Flitwick wouldn’t.”
He would.
He did.
“Potter and Y/L/N!” Flitwick called cheerily. “You’ll make quite the team. Fire and fire. Try not to burn the castle down.”
Sirius let out an obnoxious laugh. Peter snorted behind him. Remus, ever the peacemaker, looked like he was already preparing a disaster management plan.
Y/N’s eye twitched. James looked like someone had kicked him in the shin.
“Great,” she muttered, brushing past him.
He turned to watch her go, jaw clenched.
This project wasn’t going to kill him.
But she just might.
..
The library was silent. Unnaturally so.
Even Madam Pince seemed to have retreated into the Restricted Section, leaving behind only the echo of ticking clocks and the occasional ghost of an annoyed sigh from Y/N.
James sat across from her, leaning back in his chair, wand spinning lazily between his fingers.
“So,” he said, dragging the word out like a curse, “how exactly are we starting this joint paper on advanced protective charms?”
Y/N didn’t look up. “By not waiting until the night before it’s due.”
“Wow. Genuinely stunned by that creativity,” he deadpanned.
Her quill paused.
“If I hex your tongue to the roof of your mouth, will you be more productive or just quieter?”
“I don’t know,” he grinned. “Wanna test it?”
She didn’t answer. Not with words. But the flick of her wand did knock his textbook to the floor.
James smirked as he picked it up. “You’ve always had terrible impulse control.”
She tilted her head. “And you’ve always been too comfortable being second best.”
Something flickered in his eyes.
Flash. First Year. Y/N raises her hand just before James. She gets the point for Gryffindor. He scowls across the room. Professor McGonagall smiles quietly at her parchment and murmurs, “This’ll be fun to watch.”
Flash. Third Year. They both volunteer to represent Gryffindor in the inter-house spellwork trials. Slughorn chuckles, “Can’t have one without the other, can we?” James wins by half a second. Y/N doesn’t speak to him for two days.
Flash. Fifth Year. They’re assigned opposite sides in a mock Wizengamot trial. Y/N obliterates James’s argument with cold precision. He stares at her across the room like he’s seeing her for the first time. Professor Vector nudges Flitwick. “They’ll end up married,” she says matter-of-factly. Flitwick grins. “Or kill each other first.”
Back in the present, James squinted across the table.
“Do you ever get tired of pretending you don’t like working with me?”
Y/N looked up at last, brow arched.
“Do you ever get tired of pretending you don’t like me?”
Silence.
And then—tick, tick, tick—the library clock sounded louder than ever.
For the first time that night, James didn’t have a comeback. Just the ghost of a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
She blinked, caught off guard by the stillness of it.
They sat in the flickering candlelight, ancient books between them, parchment abandoned, and for a breathless second—neither was trying to win.
It was almost peaceful.
Then—
“Fine,” she said briskly, breaking the spell. “We start by researching counter-reversal layering. You handle the incantation roots, I’ll take defensive overlap theory.”
“Bossy,” he muttered.
“Efficient.”
He watched her dive back into her notes like her heart hadn’t just paused mid-sentence.
James Potter, top of the class, Chaser, chaos incarnate, leaned back in his chair and thought: I’m so completely screwed.
..
The Great Hall buzzed with the usual din of lunch hour: clattering cutlery, enchanted platters refilling themselves, and the occasional bang from a misfired spell at the Slytherin table. But at the Gryffindor end, the tension was less about house rivalries and more about two seventh-years sitting much too close for anyone’s comfort — or sanity.
“Your footnotes,” Y/N said, calmly buttering a roll, “are almost as weak as your wandwork.”
James choked on his pumpkin juice.
Across the table, Sirius cackled. “That’s what we’re starting with today? Already?”
Remus didn’t look up from his book. “They’ve been arguing since breakfast. She insulted his margin spacing.”
Y/N lifted her cup. “Because it was criminal.”
James wiped his mouth, scowling. “Funny, coming from someone who thought a Confundus Charm had four syllables.”
“I was twelve.”
“And yet, here we are. Still wrong.”
“Still smug.”
“Still smarter.”
“You wish.”
“Every night.”
There was a brief, stunned silence.
Marlene dropped her fork. Dorcas blinked once. Twice.
Even Lily looked up from her schedule, eyes narrowed.
James cleared his throat, ears flaming. “That was—that came out weird.”
Y/N tilted her head, amused. “Bit desperate there, Potter.”
God, he loved when she called him Potter. He'd never admit that out loud, of course.
Sirius leaned forward, elbows on the table like he was watching a Quidditch final. “Do either of you realize you flirt like people who think books are foreplay?”
“Shut it, Black,” they snapped in perfect unison. Again.
Lily sighed dramatically. “I’m surrounded by idiots.”
Dorcas smirked. “At least the idiots have chemistry.”
Remus turned a page. “Explosive chemistry, judging by the time they set their project notes on fire.”
“That was her fault—” James started.
“You jinxed my inkpot—” Y/N shot back.
Peter looked between them, biting into a treacle tart. “Are you two even working on the Charms project or just verbally hexing each other until something explodes?”
“Bit of both,” James muttered.
Y/N rolled her eyes. “We’re efficient.”
“You’re unbearable.”
“And you’re predictable.”
He leaned in, a little too close, voice lower. “You keep memorizing my spellwork patterns. Don’t act like you don’t watch me.”
She held his gaze, unbothered. “I study my competition.”
“And yet you never beat me.”
A slow smile tugged at her lips. “Top of the class says otherwise.”
“Tied,” he corrected, grinning despite himself.
Sirius threw a bread roll at them. “For Merlin’s sake, just snog already so we can eat in peace!”
The roll bounced off James’s shoulder. Y/N smirked but didn’t look away.
“Not until he learns how to cite a source properly.”
“I will end you.”
Lily leaned toward Marlene. “Ten Galleons says they’re shagging by the end of term.”
Marlene smirked. “Two weeks. Tops.”
And across the table, as James muttered something snarky under his breath and Y/N volleyed it back with a wicked smile, the rest of their friends could only watch the slow-burn disaster unfold like a well-scripted duel.
Except with more footnotes. And far more tension.
..
James slouched against the desk, flipping his wand through his fingers with the kind of practiced boredom that drove Y/N insane.
“You know,” he drawled, “if you’d just let me finish the Scintillating Shield Charm instead of shouting over me about pronunciation, we wouldn’t be here.”
Y/N didn’t look up from the scroll she was untangling. “If you knew how to pronounce ‘scintillating,’ we wouldn’t be here.”
“I do.”
“You said skintillating.”
He scowled. “It’s a regional dialect.”
“It’s a load of bollocks.”
Lightning flashed outside, throwing jagged shadows across the room. The flickering torches made everything feel too quiet, too intimate, like the walls were holding their breath.
She hated it.
He hated that he didn’t.
Professor Flitwick had locked them in for an hour—“To encourage cooperation,” he’d said, smiling in that way small professors with big ideas often do. The charm on the door wouldn’t lift until the classroom was properly reorganized, scrolls alphabetized, and the explosion mark from their earlier duel cleaned off the ceiling.
James pointed his wand upward. “Scourgify.”
Nothing happened.
He frowned. “You try.”
Y/N stepped beside him, barely suppressing an eyeroll. “Tergeo.”
Still nothing.
There was a beat of silence.
“…Did we maybe, possibly, irreparably damage the ceiling?” he asked, very quietly.
She gave him a look. “Did you maybe, possibly, reverse the wand movement like an idiot?”
“Oh, please, your grip on counterclockwise patterns is dodgy at best.”
They were close now. Too close. Close enough for James to notice the freckles on her nose. Close enough for Y/N to hear the hitch in his breath when her sleeve brushed his.
“I’m going to kill you,” she muttered.
“You’ll miss me when I’m gone.”
“Like a migraine.”
He smirked. “You know, you flirt worse than you duel.”
Her wand jerked toward him automatically. “Say that again and I’ll—”
The tip sparked—literally. A small shock burst out, fizzled, and ricocheted off the wall, lighting an entire stack of scrolls on fire.
Y/N shrieked. “James!”
“I didn’t do anything—you sparked first!”
“Put it out!”
They scrambled together, casting water charms and batting at the flame with their sleeves. It smelled like burnt parchment and panic.
By the time the fire was gone, they were both soaked, breathless, and covered in ash.
James doubled over, laughing. “You tried to murder me with your wand and nearly took down the curriculum!”
Y/N pushed hair from her eyes, glaring. “I hate you.”
“Sure,” he said, still laughing. “Right up until the part where you don’t.”
That quieted her.
He straightened, grin fading just enough to soften. “Why does it matter so much?” he asked, voice low. “Beating me. Being better.”
She blinked. And for a moment, she looked almost tired.
“It’s not about you,” she said, quieter now. “It’s about... proving I deserve to be here. That I’m not just lucky or a fluke or—”
She caught herself, lips pressed tight.
James stared.
“You’re not,” he said, after a second too long. “A fluke. You’re terrifyingly smart. Annoying as hell. But brilliant.”
Her eyes flicked to his, unsure. Searching. Then—
“Your ceiling charm still sucks.”
He grinned. “And we’re back.”
They worked in silence after that. No more bickering. Just two wands, two minds, side by side. The air still smelled a little like smoke.
When the door finally unlocked with a click, James turned to her.
She was already halfway out.
“Y/N.”
She paused.
“I don’t mind losing to you,” he said. “Just... don’t burn the castle down doing it.”
She didn’t smile.
Not exactly.
But she didn’t slam the door behind her, either.
And James stood there, watching the spot she’d left behind, thinking that maybe—just maybe—he was starting to lose for real. And not just in grades.
..
The clock above the fireplace chimed softly. Once. Twice. Three times. Four.
James blinked blearily from the stairwell, squinting into the dim glow.
He hadn’t meant to come down. Had just wanted water or maybe some space from his own brain. But something had felt off—too quiet, too still.
Then he saw her.
Y/N sat curled on the far end of the couch, surrounded by towers of parchment, textbooks spread like fallen soldiers, quill dancing madly across a scroll. Her hair was pulled back in a loose, half-defeated messy bun that somehow made her look even cuter. Her robes were wrinkled, ink on her wrist, candlelight flickering against the sharp cut of her jaw.
She didn’t notice him.
Not at first.
She was mumbling spells under her breath, voice hoarse, like she’d been at it for hours. Notes surrounded her in a chaotic constellation—diagrams, equations, citations in perfect form.
James stepped closer, slowly, like he might scare her off if he made too much noise.
She jumped anyway when he said her name.
“Y/N?”
Her head snapped up.
Merlin, her eyes were bloodshot.
“Potter,” she said, voice scratchy. “Go away. I’m fine.”
He didn’t move.
“You look like you haven’t blinked in two hours.”
“I haven’t,” she said flatly.
He raised a brow. “Should I be impressed or deeply concerned?”
She sighed, pushing her notes away with more force than necessary. The quiet crackle of the fire filled the silence between them.
“I need to get this right.”
James stepped closer. “It’s not due for three days.”
She didn’t look at him. Just stared at the ink-stained page like it might disappear if she blinked too hard.
“I don’t care,” she muttered. “I’m not giving them a reason to call me lucky. Or distracted. Or… just second to you.”
He exhaled. “Is that what this is? You think it’s about me?”
She finally looked at him. Not angry. Not smug. Just… tired. And honest.
“Everything I do, Potter—every extra footnote, every late night in the library, every time I correct you—it’s because I have to be better. Not just than you. Than everyone. Or else I’m just the girl who almost kept up.”
James blinked. The pieces rearranged themselves in his mind. She wasn’t competing with him.
She was surviving against something bigger.
And suddenly, the game wasn’t fun anymore.
“I don’t want you to lose,” he said, quietly. “Not like this.”
Y/N scoffed, looking away. “Spare me the pity.”
“It’s not pity,” he said, stepping in front of her. “It’s respect. You fight harder than anyone I’ve ever met. I just—” he ran a hand through his hair. “—I didn’t realize it cost you so much.”
She paused.
And for the first time, she didn’t have a sharp retort. Just silence.
Just the sound of the fire cracking.
Then:
“I don’t know how to stop,” she admitted.
It was soft. Honest. Unapologetic.
James sat beside her, careful not to disturb the paper maze.
“You don’t have to stop,” he said. “But you don’t have to do it alone either.”
She didn’t say anything.
Didn’t lean into him, didn’t cry, didn’t collapse like some tragic heroine. She just… let the silence settle. Let herself be seen.
That was all.
And somehow, it was enough.
James reached over, plucked a scroll from the pile.
“Your citation format is unnecessarily aggressive, by the way.”
She snorted. “Still better than your spell diagrams.”
They stayed there—two stubborn, brilliant, exhausted minds—side by side in the flickering dark. Not competing.
Just existing.
Together.
..
The Great Hall, transformed for the final Charms presentations. A raised platform. Judges' table filled with Professors. Rows of students buzzing with whispers. The pressure is suffocating — and they look like they were born to handle it.
James adjusted the cuff of his robes with a confidence that barely masked the adrenaline. Y/N stood beside him, spine straight, wand steady, jaw set like a general before battle.
Professor Flitwick clapped his tiny hands. “Our final presentation: Potter and Y/L/N.”
A hush fell over the room.
They stepped forward in tandem. No glance exchanged. They didn’t need to. Their movements were already in sync.
James gave a low bow. “Today we’ll be demonstrating integrated layering of advanced defensive charms—”
“—with a focus on counter-reversal timing and double-helix incantation structure,” Y/N finished crisply.
Murmurs rippled through the crowd. Even McGonagall raised a brow.
James flicked his wand. A glowing outline of a shield structure shimmered in midair.
Y/N followed, weaving a second spell into it without hesitation. The colors spiraled together — blue and gold, steady and brilliant — forming a lattice that pulsed like it had a heartbeat.
James cast again — a simulated hex, fast and sharp.
Y/N intercepted before it reached the shield, layered her charm directly into his, countering and absorbing the impact without a ripple.
Flitwick sat forward in his chair.
Their final flourish: a timed counterstrike that bent around the shield like a ribbon, hitting a target dummy with such precision it vanished in a burst of light.
Silence.
A long, stunned silence.
Then—
The hall erupted in applause.
Even Dumbledore looked mildly impressed. (Which, from him, might as well be a standing ovation.)
Flitwick beamed. “Brilliant! Flawless structure! Seamless transitions! I daresay — top marks, without question!”
McGonagall folded her arms, trying not to smile. “I suppose constant arguing has some academic merit after all.”
James looked at Y/N. Really looked at her.
She was glowing.
Not just from pride — though she deserved every ounce of it — but from something gentler. Softer. Her gaze met his, steady and quiet, and for the first time since First Year…
They weren’t rivals.
They were equals.
They were a team.
He leaned toward her slightly, voice low, words just for her.
“If beating me means that much to you,” he murmured, “I’ll let you win. Just this once.”
She didn’t hesitate.
She kissed him mid-sentence.
Quick, firm, certain.
When she pulled back, the corner of her mouth lifted.
“You already did.”
The applause roared on, but James barely heard it.
He was too busy watching her walk off that stage, head high, magic still humming between them like a promise.
He followed.
Because after all those years of chasing first place, he’d finally realized:
He’d rather come second if it meant coming with her.
Okay some extra blurbs because I really enjoyed writing this trope w James
Sirius Black: Official Ship Captain:
Gryffindor Common Room, midnight. James is sulking. Sirius walks in and sighs theatrically.
Sirius: “You’ve got it bad.”
James: “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Sirius: “Oh, please. You looked at her like she invented magic. And then she corrected your Aramaic pronunciation and you got all flustered.”
James: “I was not flustered.”
Sirius: “Mate, you turned red. You went through five shades of blushing, and I think one of them was maroon.”
James groaned. “Do you ever shut up?”
Sirius: “No. But you should probably snog her before she ends up with someone who pronounces Aparecium correctly.”
Jeeealousss Jamesss
James: internally "Stay cool. You’re cool. You’re not gonna do something irrational—"
Y/N laughs at something the Ravenclaw says.
James: already walking over "I am absolutely going to do something irrational."
He slides into the conversation like a thundercloud in a Quidditch uniform. “Hey, Y/N. Just checking—didn’t we agree that anyone who uses revision flashcards in public is automatically disqualified from intellectual conversation?”
The Ravenclaw frowns. “That was uncalled for—”
James: “So was that tie.”
Y/N: “James.”
James: “Sorry. Reflex.”
Y/N gives him a look but she’s smiling. A little.
Y/N and her girls
Y/N flopped back on her bed with a groan. “I swear, if James Potter says ‘we’ scored the highest one more time, I’m going to hex his ego into next Tuesday.”
Lily raised an eyebrow from her mirror. “You mean our James Potter?”
Marlene snorted. “The one who only learns Latin verbs to outdo you?”
Dorcas, teasing: “Or the one who stares at you in Potions like you’re the answer key?”
Y/N tossed a pillow at her. “I hate all of you.”
“Sure,” Lily said, stretching. “And that’s why you spent thirty minutes fixing your hair before ‘accidentally’ running into him in the library.”
Y/N opened her mouth. Closed it.
Marlene grinned. “Just admit it.”
“I don’t—” Y/N hesitated. Then, quietly: “I don’t know what it is. I just… when we argue, I feel like someone sees me. All of me. Even the parts I don’t show anyone.”
Dorcas leaned over. “That’s not rivalry, babe. That’s a relationship with extra steps.”
Lily smiled softly. “You deserve someone who matches you stride for stride. Even if he’s a little smug about it.”
Y/N blinked at the ceiling, heart doing that stupid tight thing again.
“…I think I’m in trouble.”
Marlene tossed a Chocolate Frog at her. “Big trouble. Massive. Keep us updated.”
Jealous Y/N
Y/N flipped a page in her textbook with unnecessary force.
“Wow,” Dorcas said beside her, not looking up from her Divination charts. “That book really hurt you, huh?”
“I’m fine,” Y/N snapped.
Marlene leaned back, eyes flicking to the hearth. “Totally. It’s not like Potter’s arm just accidentally brushed that girl’s shoulder or anything.”
“She’s sitting in his chair,” Y/N said flatly. “Who does that?”
“She’s just talking to him,” Lily offered gently.
Y/N didn’t answer. Her eyes were fixed on the way the girl was giggling. Touching James’s forearm like she’d earned it.
That was her armrest. She’d leaned there during their study sessions. She’d fallen asleep next to it once.
She slammed the book shut.
“I’m going to bed.”
Marlene smirked. “Oh? Thought you were waiting to ask James something about Flitwick’s notes.”
“I changed my mind,” she said crisply.
She was halfway up the stairs when she heard it—
James’s laugh. Loud. Warm. The one he only did when he was really amused.
Something sharp bloomed in her chest.
She turned around before she could talk herself out of it.
Walked straight across the common room.
“Potter.”
James looked up, surprised. “Y/N. Thought you were—”
“I need your notes. The Charms appendix.” Her tone was clipped. Dismissive. Cold.
He blinked. “Uh, yeah—yeah, they’re upstairs.”
“Then go get them.”
James tilted his head, brows lifting. The Ravenclaw girl shifted awkwardly.
“You alright?” he asked slowly.
Y/N’s smile didn’t reach her eyes. “Fine. Just forgot how… generous you are with your time lately.”
James stood, and for a second something flickered between them. Tension. Electricity. History.
Then he leaned a fraction closer.
“Say what you actually mean,” he said, too softly for anyone else to hear.
Y/N didn’t blink. “You’re not nearly as charming as you think you are.”
He smirked. “And yet here you are. Pulling me away.”
Her hand brushed his wrist, casual and not casual at all. “That seat’s not hers, by the way.”
James’s smile faltered. “No?”
She met his gaze, unwavering. “No. It’s mine.”
Then she turned and walked upstairs like nothing had happened.
And James, still standing there — watched her go, grin slowly blooming like fire behind his eyes.
The Ravenclaw girl cleared her throat. “Was that…?”
“Yeah,” James said absently, already halfway to the stairs. “That was her being polite.”
Prefect's Closet
“Nice going, Potter,” Y/N hissed, stumbling into the tiny closet as the door slammed behind them. “Brilliant plan, truly. Five stars.”
“Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t want to get detention again because someone can’t stop hexing Slytherins in broad daylight—”
“I was defending your honor, you absolute git—”
They were chest-to-chest. Breathing hard. The light of his wand cast flickering shadows on the cramped walls. He smelled like cedar and adrenaline.
She jabbed a finger at his chest. “This is your fault.”
He caught her hand mid-air. “Then punish me.”
Silence.
Breath. Crackling tension.
Then—
She surged forward.
Their mouths crashed, all fury and teeth and too many things unsaid. It was messy — glorious — her back hitting the wall with a thud as his hands found her hips, anchoring like he’d been waiting seven years for permission.
Her fingers raked through his hair, tugging just hard enough to make him groan into her mouth.
“You’re so—” kiss “—infuriating—” kiss “—and smug—”
“And you love it,” he rasped, chasing her lips again.
She didn’t deny it.
His hands were everywhere — tugging at her jumper, fingertips skimming bare skin beneath her shirt. Her legs bumped a bucket, nearly tripping them both.
They laughed. Breathless. Dazed.
And then he kissed her again, slower this time, but no less intense — a hand cradling her jaw like he needed to memorize the shape of her.
“Say you hate me now,” he whispered against her lips.
She smiled darkly. “I hate how good you are at this.”
He bit back a grin. “Let’s test your theory.”
He kissed her like he wanted her undone — and she let him, melting into it, into him, into years of denial crashing all at once.
The closet was too small. The air too thin.
And somehow — not nearly enough.

The latest Family Video customer is barely through the door before Eddie explodes, "Ugh, Tyler."
Beside him, Steve scoffs in agreement, nose wrinkled with distaste. He's so hot. "Yeah, exactly, uugh."
"That should be his middle name. Ugh," Robin chimes in. Eddie's so glad they're in agreement about the bleach-spiked punk guy that graduated three years ago but is still bumming around Hawkins. "Steve, I can't believe you dated that guy."
Seriously, Tyler is the worst— Wait, what—?
"Wait," Eddie says, gaping at Robin. "What?"
"You could barely call it dating," Steve huffs.
"You were together for a month and a half," Robin says. She's got this evil grin on her face and is pointedly not looking at Eddie who is very desperate for Robin to look at him right now, please. "You drove that bum to Indy every weekend. He broke up with you on Valentine's day."
Eddie's weak "Tyler? Tyler Teaks?" gets completely ignored.
"I—" Steve says with haughty emphasis. "—broke up with him on Valentine's day. Don't get it twisted, Buckley."
Robin snorts and finally glances at Eddie. "Steve only broke up with him because the guy blew him off. On Valentine's Day. Which is basically getting broken up with," she tells him, and ignores it when Eddie whimpers at her.
"Yeah, but I'm the one to ended it!" Steve insits.
Eddie, finally, finds his voice, and says, "Tyler Teaks?! Harrington!"
"Ugh," Steve says, slumping against the counter. "I know." He cuts a glare over at Eddie after a moment. "I blame you for this."
"Me?!" Eddie shrieks, incredulous. He's pretty sure he's stepped into another parallel world. Perpendicular world? A world where Steve apparently dates guys—and guys like Tyler Teaks, no less. Eddie's sure he's gone completely batshit insane. "What the hell did I do?!"
Steve stands, cocking his hip the side, and looks down his handsome nose at Eddie. "You wouldn't be my New Year's kiss at Tina's party," he says. "So I had to settle for Tyler Teaks instead."
"What the fuck?" Eddie says, completely lost. "What—? You—? Tina—? KISS—?!"
Beside them, Robin is grinning, laughing, eyes going back and forth between them, munching on a stolen back of skittles—her own personal dramedy on stage before her.
"Yep," Steve says, popping the P. He looks distinctly bitter. "Pulled my best moves on you, and you turned me down."
"Steve," Eddie breathes. He reaches out, places both hands on Steve's shoulders, intent. The eye contact he forces Steve into is desperate. "I don't even remember getting to Tina's New Year's Party." He takes a deep breath. "I woke up in her mom's pantry the next morning with no shoes and no memory of how I got there."
Finally, Steve cracks, a big smile stretching his face. Robin cackles. "Yeah, I kind of figured as much," Steve sighs, wistful now. "You told me, and I quote, 'Steve Harrington, you are very beautiful and I want to have a summer wedding because you'd look beautiful-er with sunflowers'—"
"Don't forget the 'you look so hot in that sweater' part."
"—'But actually, I am a very straight man. So very super straight.' And then you crouched down on the floor and crawled away." Steve is biting his lip now to keep from laughing. Robin is not so nice. "Like I couldn't see you, and the handkerchief flagging in your pocket."
"Oh my god."
"Don't worry, it was really cute," Steve says, grinning. "But, I still needed a New Year's kiss, and unfortunately for everyone involved, Tyler was my only willing choice."
"Oh my god."
"Totally duped me though, he was super sweet the entire night," Steve sighs. His mouth is twisted into genuine regret now. "Plus, the next week, you acted like you'd never spoken to me before, so—"
"OH MY GOD."
Steve and Robin give him twin grimaces. Robin's is a lot more sympathetic. Steve's is confused. "Listen, man," Steve tries to soothe. "I'm sure that's pretty embarrassing, but it was a cute story! No hard feelings, I promise."
Robin's sympathetic grimace deepens.
"No," Eddie says, standing up straight. "I refuse. There is no way I turned down Steve Harrington for a New Year's kiss. There is no way."
"Wait—"
"Eddie, where—"
Eddie marches for the door, digging his keys out of his pockets. "Good-bye friends, I must go see a supergirl about time travel."

You just returned to your desk after putting Jaehyun down for his nap, feeling exhausted but determined to finish the work that had been piling up. Being seven months pregnant was taking its toll, making you more fatigued than ever. Inho, your caring and protective husband, constantly fretted about your well-being. He didn't even want you to work or do anything at all besides staying in bed all day. His concerns for your safety, Jaehyun's, and that of the baby were genuine and heartfelt, often leading to gentle arguments about your need to stay busy. He would lovingly remind you, "Your health, Jaehyun's health, and our baby's health come first, always."
Yet, bed rotting isn't your thing; you liked to stay busy. After a few hours of tackling your work, you decide it's time to check on Jaehyun, who should be fast asleep from his nap. The thought of seeing his peaceful face is a welcome break from the stress of the day.
However, when you enter his room, it is empty. Confusion hits you immediately, a wave of unease washing over you. "Jaehyun?" you call out, your voice echoing through the house. The silence is deafening, and a sense of foreboding begins to creep in.
You take a deep breath, forcing yourself to stay calm as you start searching the neighboring rooms. Each empty room you enter heightens your anxiety, but you try to maintain a semblance of composure.
Your serenity is shattered when you run into June, the nanny, who is pacing nervously in the hallway. Her usually neat appearance is disheveled, and her face is etched with worry.
"June, have you seen Jaehyun?" you ask, attempting to keep your voice steady.
She looks up, her expression filled with guilt and fear. "Jaehyun ran off, and I can't find him," she admits, voice trembling.
Your heart stops, a surge of panic flooding your system. "What! What do you mean you can’t find him? Where did he go?" you demand, your voice rising.
June stammers, trying to explain, but her words blur into an incoherent buzz. Your mind goes blank, your focus narrowing to a sharp point: finding Jaehyun and informing your husband, Inho. Instinctively, you reach for your phone, your hands shaking uncontrollably.
"Stay here and keep looking. I'll call Inho," you manage to instruct June, though your voice cracks with desperation.
You frantically dial Inho's number, the phone feeling slippery in your sweaty grip. Each ring amplifies your anxiety until he finally answers.
"Inho," you say, your voice on the edge of hysteria, "Jaehyun's missing! He's gone!" The words tumble out in a frantic rush.
Inho's calm façade shatters upon hearing the distressing news. The lines in his face deepen with worry, and his usual steady demeanor falters. Yet, somehow, he manages to regain enough composure to soothe your hysteria and urges you to recount every detail as he makes his way toward home. His mind races consumed by the sheer terror of losing Jaehyun.
By the time Inho arrives, he is a man on the edge, but the sight of your tear-streaked face nearly breaks him. He pulls you into a fierce embrace, his voice a soft murmur of comforting words. "We'll find him. I promise," he whispers into your hair, holding you as tightly as he dares.
Despite his own crippling fear, Inho maintains a composed exterior. He knows that he must be the pillar of strength for both you and the situation at hand. Gathering himself quickly, he turns to June, his eyes narrowing with a sharp intensity.
"How could you be so careless?" he snaps, his voice as cold and cutting as a blade. "I swear, if something happens to our son, it won’t just be you I'll deal with—it will be everyone you ever loved, anyone you’ve ever laid eyes on."
Your tears falling freely, you grab his arm gently, interrupting his tirade. "Inho, please," you plead softly. "Threatening her won’t bring Jaehyun back."
Inho takes a deep breath, locking eyes with you, understanding the profound truth in your words. His shoulders slump slightly as he nods, his rage giving way to helplessness for a moment. "I have guards searching the island, Y/N. We will find him. I promise," he vows, tightening his protective grip on you. He places one hand tenderly on your pregnant belly, the gesture meant to ground both of you.
"Breathe, please. For our baby," he murmurs, his voice a soothing balm to your overwrought nerves.
You nod, clinging to him like a lifeline amid the tumultuous sea of your emotions. "You’ll bring him home," you say, your voice tinged with both hope and desperation, more as an affirmation than a question.
"I will," Inho reassures, his voice imbued with determination and a fierce resolve. Leaving you in the care of another trusted aide, he steps back, giving one last reassuring squeeze to your hand before joining the search.
Tumblr media
As Inho rushes out to find Jaehyun, his mind is consumed with guilt. He berates himself for being a bad father, too busy with work to spend time with his child. The pain of losing his first wife is still fresh, and the mere thought of losing another loved one is unbearable.
"Why didn't I spend more time with him?" he mutters under his breath, running his hands through his hair in frustration. Memories of Jaehyun's laughter and your gentle smile flood his thoughts, intensifying his sense of urgency.
Frantically searching the building, calling out Jaehyun’s name, Inho's panic escalates with each empty room. His heart races, and his breaths come in short, desperate gasps. Just as he's thinking the worst, his walkie-talkie crackles to life—it's a call from a guard.
“Frontman,” says the guard, his voice slightly nervous, “I believe I know where your son is. He was seen heading towards the old game room. Stage 7.”
Without wasting a second, Inho sprints to the game room, dread and hope battling within him. He presses the button on his walkie-talkie and speaks in a cold, deadly voice, “If anyone hurts my child, there will be dire consequences.”
Approaching the room, Inho pushes open the door without hesitation. The familiar setup catches his eye immediately—it's the same room used for playing "Dalgona." His eyes scan the room desperately, and finally, he sees him— your son, Jaehyun, sitting in a corner, happily nibbling on a piece of Dalgona.
“Jaehyun!” Inho calls out, his voice a mixture of relief and authority.
Jaehyun looks up, startled and scared, his eyes widening in confusion. It dawns on Inho that he's still wearing the Front Man mask, which his son has never seen before.
Hastily, Inho removes the mask, revealing his face. “Jaehyun-ah, it’s appa,” he says, his voice softening.
Jaehyun's fear melts into recognition and then into a wide, delighted smile. “Appa!” he exclaims, jumping up and running into Inho’s open arms.
Relief washes over Inho as he holds Jaehyun tight, the weight of his fears dissolving in the warmth of the embrace. Tears of gratitude and overwhelming love sting his eyes as he showers his son with kisses.
“Never run off like that again,” Inho says, his voice gentle but firm. “Eomma and I were so worried.”
Jaehyun looks up, his small hand reaching out to wipe away Inho's tears. “Appa, no cry,” he says, his voice filled with innocence.
Surprised by his own tears, Inho chuckles softly, “Appa's okay. I love you so much."
“wuv you too,” Jaehyun responds, tightening his little arms around Inho's neck.
Inho's heart swells with love and relief. He puts his mask back on, knowing he must return to his role but grateful for this precious moment. He picks up Jaehyun, carrying him out of the game room.
As they head home, Inho thinks of you waiting for them, and he feels a profound sense of gratitude. Holding Jaehyun close, he carries the warmth of their reunion with him, vowing to cherish every moment with his family from now on.

I think tobios the kind of guy to really REALLY be in love with his first love. I mean this guy would be obsessed with whoever took his virginity, I solely believe that.
He literally would be so in love with you without even noticing. He would love being close to you, he'd get all smiley with you and y'know his smile isn't all that but when he's genuine with it, it's the prettiest thing to see on him.
Holding his face and peppering kisses on him in front of the team, Hinata and tsukishima teasing him for it. He groans but ultimately loves it. He loves you.
When you met his sister she was kind of scary. She had this unapproachable look about her, there was so much stress and pressure to be good and great for his family. But she was actually really sweet, really interesting and a genuinely great sister for the most part.
His grandfather was absolutely hilarious and tobio wouldn't admit it to you or anyone else, but it meant a lot to him that his grandfather actually took a liking toward you. The way you unintentionally made his grandfather crack up at your occasional mishaps on your words and the weird little sounds you made when you realized you fucked up your sentence, or when you sounded so robotic to remember the interesting things you told yourself you were interested in for the sake of his grandfather.
I like to think kageyama is REALLY emotionally constipated to the point he knows NOTHING....about love or even being interested/attracted to someone. He gains such a genuine attraction towards you, it physically hurts him. He can't help but to groan in some sort of annoyance when he sees you because he knows his body betrays him. It always makes it clear that he's happy to have you around.
Whether he becomes a flushed mess, his stupid cheeks filling with blood and getting all warm and red. His ear become impossibly warm as well, he swears he can't even hear you speaking to him. Or whether it be his eyes wandering down to your lips, his thoughts thinking about how he loves it when you kiss him. He prefers those quick kisses you give, to him those are more than enough. His eyes began to trail all over your body, his mind thinking about every part of your body they stop on
His eyes move to your hands, goodness does he love holding them. He really does. When he holds your hand I think he would often squeeze them for a little, like you could just be hiding hands and a for the most part gentle squeeze comes out of nowhere. He holds it in a tight grasp like that for a while before the tightness retreats.
It's so sweet really. You call his name and his blue eyes shoot right back up to yours, kageyama doesn't shy away from anyone but damn why did you have to look at him like that with those stupid fucking eyes of yours..
You offered him a genuine warm smile, your eyes creasing a bit as your smile met them a small chuckle leaving you as you watch him fail to keep eye contact with you. He had a silly little pout on his face as his brows furrowed and his cheeks warmed.
You sigh at your silly boy and pull him into a hug, it was mostly you hugging him. Wrapping your arms around his body as he stiffly stood in your grasp, you give him a long squeeze and groan slightly. You pull away and grab his face pulling his down, with his face in your hands he takes a moment to really feel your hands the softness of them on his cheeks and how he could smell perfume on your wrists.
You give him a couple of kisses on his face causing him to squeeze his eyes shut and groan lightly. He slowly fluttered his eyes open to leer down at you. He's so tall even when you pull him down to level with you.
“ I love you, tobio..”
You whisper to him, clearly not quiet enough because you can hear people snickering behind you. You kiss his nose one final time, you can see the way he's mentally cursing you with his mind. He hates that you had to do this in front of them. He loves you, he swears he does. He may have a funny way of showing it but he genuinely loves you.
“ ...mmn... love...you too..”
Tobio made damn sure he said it quiet enough. He refused to let them hear him say that.
Trust after being with you for a long time he gets out of that. He doesn't care who hears him say he loves you. He's so happy that he's had you for this long.

Hello, I love ALL of your work, so if it's not too much of a hassle, I'd like to make a request. Arcane women x reader who is a very dangerous (and well-known) criminal and murderer in Zaun and Piltover, with a sadistic and manic personality. But when they meet her, they realize that the reader is quite kind and affectionate, maybe even a little shy. That's all, I hope you like my idea. Have a good day!
⋆ ☆Arcane Women x criminal!reader Headcannons
Characters: Jinx, Vi, Caitlyn, Sevika, Mel, Ambessa.
Genre: fluff
Warnings ⚠️: Arcane Women x reader, Fem!reader, Criminal!Reader, mentions of murder, fluff, violence implied.
-Jinx
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
●Jinx is OBSESSED with you the moment she meets you. She expected someone as crazy as her, and while you definitely have your moments of sadistic mania, she's delighted to find out you're actually kinda cute.
●"Wait, wait, wait-so you're tellin' me you are the one that gutted those Piltie officers like a fish? You? Awww, cupcake, you look so precious when you blush.
●She teases you constantly about how different you are from your reputation. She finds it hilarious when you get flustered, but she loves seeing that dark, twisted side of you come out when necessary. It makes her giddy.
●Jink probably tries to provoke you just to see that manic glint in your eyes because damn, it's hot when you're in killer mode.
-Vi
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
●Vi is wary at first. She knows your reputation, and even if she's not exactly law- abiding herself, she has to keep an eye on you. But then... she sees you being soft?
●"You, uh... you sure you're the same person everyone's scared of?" Vi watches as you carefully, wrap a strat cat in a blanket, looking all concerned.
●Once she realized you're not as unhinged as the rumor says, she finds your duality intriguing. The idea that you could be a ruthless killer yet still get nervous when she flirts with you? Oh, she loves it.
●"Damn, sweetheart. You just slit a guy's throat, and now you're all shy 'cause I called you pretty? That's adorable."
-Caitlyn
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
●Caitlyn has to meet you under a professional circumstances first. As an enforcer, she knows exactly who you are and what you've done. She expects a remorseless, sadistic monster, not... whatever this is.
●She watches in shock as you nervously avoid eye contact, mumbling out something polite. She expects a challenge, but instead, she gets someone who stammers when complimented?
●Caitlyn doesn't trust you at first, but once she sees you softer side, she starts questioning everything.
●"You- you're a murder. A criminal. And yet you just helped that old woman cross the street?"
●The contradictory of your personality fascinates her. She might even hesitated to arrest you.
-Sevika
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
●Sevika knows what kind of person you are. She heard the rumors, seen the aftermath of your work, and yet... she never expected you to be so polite.
●She initially thinks it's an act, a manipulation tactic, but the more time she spends with you, the more she realizes it's genuine.
●"So let me get this straight... you've got half of Zaun scared shitless of you, and yet you can't even look me in the eye when I call you cute?" She smirks. "That's just pathetic, doll."
●Sevika is the type to test you, pushing your buttons just to see if the rumors hold weight. When you finally snap and go full psycho mode? She grins.
●"There's my girl."
-Mel
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
●Mel is intrigued by you the moment she hears your name. She’s dealt with powerful people before, but someone with your reputation? That’s a different kind of influence.
●“A killer with a soft heart…" how very unusual.” She studies you like a puzzle, fascinated by the way you switch between cold-blooded and sweet.
●Mel finds your duality entertaining. She’ll say something flirtatious just to watch your confident demeanor crack.
●“For someone so feared, you do crumble quite easily under my gaze. How adorable.”
●But she’s also deeply respectful of your strength. She knows better than to underestimate you, no matter how affectionate you are.
-Ambessa
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
●Ambessa isn’t easily impressed, but the moment she hears about you, she’s intrigued. A dangerous, high-profile criminal? She likes power, and you have plenty of it.
●When she meets you and sees how shy you are despite your reputation, she can’t help but chuckle.
●"I expected a monster. Instead, I find a kitten.”
●She enjoys the contrast. She also enjoys watching you switch from soft to brutal in an instant. It proves you’re not weak—just selective about who sees your true self.

an honest man
Tyler Owens x Reader
Lily reveals the truth about Tyler's night, leading to confrontation
warnings: cussing, angst, but fluff at the end!
"Tyler Owens!" you shout , storming into your motel room. The rusty door slams with a rough shake and a deafening clang. The entire floor probably felt the shake of it but you could care less. You were going to skin Tyler alive. You beeline to the bathroom door, hearing the shower running. "Tyler you open this door right fucking now." you demand, jiggling the locked doorknob.
"Y/N? What is it doll what's the matter?" his voice is laced with concern as you hear him stumble out of the shower. He cracks the door open, hair dripping wet, shower still running. His eyes are wide, startled at your fuming expression.
"Do you care to explain why Lily says you were out 'till 2 am drinking with Kate?" he looks at you, flabbergasted. "You said you were out with Boone."
"Baby I was with Boone 'till like midnight, I was with both of them. Lily headed in with you and those two hung around. Kate was just the last to call it a night. We were up chatting real late." he replies nonchalantly. You roll your eyes.
Ever since this Kate girl rolled in Tyler's been smothering her like she's a baby in need of a blanket. He coddles her, taking attention from you. Every other word is Kate, Kate, Kate. It's like he's not even chasing for the storm, it feels like an excuse to be around her.
"I don't believe a word you say Tyler. You weren't in bed 'till 5 am, and I thought you were coming from Boone's room. Now I hear that Kate told Lily you were out 'till 2 with her, so what happened between 2 and 5, Tyler?" you demand, your voice growing angrier with each word. He sighs, stepping back.
"Can I at least finish my shower first?" he pleads. You scoff, letting go of the door. "You can go lick her boots Tyler. I'm sick of this." you storm off, leaving the room with a huff. You walk mindlessly until you reach the bar you were at last night.
You push the doors open and sit down at one of the rickety stools, ordering a Coors. And another, and another, until you're properly tipsy enough to not give a shit about where your fiancé may be. All you do is take down beer after beer, your empty stomach churning at the bubbly alcohol, your eyes getting wet each time they meet with the glistening stone on your left finger.
Tyler was a perfect man, a perfect partner. He understood you, he took care of you, and all of the sudden that's all tossed out the second some new city girl shows up. Even Lily noticed the shift in behavior. It was uncharacteristic, and no matter how mad you were, you just wanted Tyler back to being completely yours.
About two hours and a half pass by of you just wallowing in your own pity- even the bartender was shooting you looks every time you ordered another drink. By number 5, he tells you to cool down and has you close out. By then Tyler is also meandering towards you.
"Baby." he says. You don't look at him. "Y/N. Darlin' look at me."
You still refuse.
"I didn't sleep with Kate, or do whatever you think I did. I was talking to her about her accident. She had an accident years ago with an experiment gone wrong that killed her friends- we were unpacking it. We were getting to know each other. She was wanting to get to know you, too. I know it sounds bad, I know it looks even worse, but baby you have to believe me." he's begging at this point, shakily placing his hand over yours. "You're the only woman for me. The only person for me, the only one I could ever love. I can't look at nobody else the way I look at you. You mean everything to me. I'd let a tornado rip me away if it meant you could be happy forever. I never want to see you like this, especially if it's my fault. I just want to make this right honey."
Tears stream down your face. He sounds genuine, and you know he means it too. You finally turn your head, locking eyes. He's sorrowful, wiping your tears.
"Can you find it in you to forgive me?" you don't hesitate to nod. He leans over to kiss you, before outstretching his hand. "Let's get you to bed alright?" you let him lead you back to the room, feeling warm from the beer, and the affection he's showing you. This, this was your Tyler. The man you were going to marry. The caring soul you'd fallen for all those years ago.
He helps you change and tucks you into bed, kissing you earnestly. He murmurs sweet nothings into your hair as you breathe him in, drifting to sleep, secure in his arms.

🩰 member dynamics!
❝ 𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒚 ❞
Tumblr media
heeseung + heran [ heeran ]
duo name : acez
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ contact names
heeseung : heeSeUNG [ no explanation needed ]
heran : dramatic lead no one casted [ because she acts like she's in a period drama, and doen't understand the concept of normal reactions ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they met through yeonjun, and at first heeseung said they were so awkward to the point where they couldn't be left alone. they'd just sit in silence waiting for someone to say something
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ when they found out that they would be on the survival show together heeseung said he felt more at ease knowing that she'd be there. heran said that she probably wouldn't have spoken to anyone at all if it wasn't for him
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ when it was announced that she would be debuting with them heeseung thanked the gods. it didn't take much for them to get along and he made sure to be by her side when they first debuted because of how nervous she was, and always reassured her
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ during shows he makes sure that she is comfortable and if she isn't, he makes sure to do something about it
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ if either of them is troubled with something, like practice or maybe there's just something bothering them then they talk to each other. the members usually go to either jay or heran for advice or just to rant because they're good listeners. their dynamic is just the cutest and fans love the familial bond that they have with each other
heeran does!
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ therapy sessions
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ hugs before and after performances
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they have karaoke lives every two weeks
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ heran always finds herself laughing until she's on the floor whenever they have conversations in konglish/english
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ heeseung always goes into immediate panic mode whenever he can't find her in crowds, only to see that she's next to him
"okay let's get to the—wait. where's heran?? OH MY GOD WHERE—oh."
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they're each other's hypeman/woman for literally anything. during games, performances, even when one of them is cooking
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they're always bullying each other, and it got to the point where they got creative and started dissing each other with random rap battles
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they have mario kart battles too, but in the middle of the night. heran is a night owl so she's always awake, and heeseung's usually up playing league or something. it gets so noisy when they're playing, and jay despises them for it
"drop that shell I dare you—WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU, HERAN?!"
"you're the one who said that I should do it!".
and jay hears and he's screaming at the top of his lungs. "CAN YOU TWO SHUT THE HELL UP? I WILL UNPLUG THAT CONSOLE, DON'T TEST ME!"
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ nicknames
| heeseung [ seung-ah ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ it started off as a joke, more teasingly from heran when she dropped the honorifics to irritate him. he wasn't upset, just more concerned for her well-being because he genuinely thinks that she's the strangest person that he's ever met. the nickname caught on though and he warmed up to it
"testing, testing... 1, 2, 3."
"seung-ah your voice cracked on 2..."
"it's called vocal texture."
| heran [ cherry ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ it originated from a war crime. [ she choked on a cherry ]. it happened a few weeks after they met—so they were still super awkward around each other. they were chilling in the practice room, eating some snacks while talking and then she just started coughing
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ heeseung was so confused, only to realise that she was choking, and like the idiot he is, he started violently hitting her back while screaming. trauma
"doesn't cherry look good today engenes? wait is that my jacket...?"
"uhm... no?"
Tumblr media
jay + heran [ jayran ]
duo name : rockstarz
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ contact names
jay : jay park ( real ) [ she's a clown like that ]
heran : flight risk [ she threatens to run away for no reason ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ now this is a duo. do you know those dads that are completely against the idea of getting a dog, but the second they get the dog BAM!! inseparable? that's literally their relationship
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ at the beginning of i-land they were asked which trainees they wouldn't get along and he said heran. like heeseung, he was also a bit opposed idea to the idea of being a co-ed group, so he tried his hardest not to associate with her for most of the show. but then she cracked a joke and he started laughing, and when she noticed he played it off by coughing and walked away
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ you will never catch him dead admitting it, but he loves heran a lot. he shows her a lot of tough love, and they tease each other quite a bit but he's always smiling regardless
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ there are times where she'll fall asleep on the couch when she's exhausted and he'll walk past and shake his head and start complaining about how careless she is while covering her with a blanket
"everytime. she does this everytime. the least she could do is go to her room like a normal person."
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ their shared love for their guitars needs to be studied. jay let her write her initials on one of his guitars, and she did the same—but specifically on the electric guitar that she used to produce shout out with
| jayran does!
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ when jay is cooking, she'll sit on the counter and talk to him or annoy him but he loves that she keeps him company
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ jay often braids her hair, and whenever she compliments him or tells him that it looks good he brags to the members
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ when they're walking anywhere he makes sure that she's within arm's reach and prefers for her to walk next to him
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they loveeee going shopping together. just two rich besties spending hours at the mall
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they have their morning coffee sessions where she'll talk about her day, the wack dream she had and he'll just listen and sip his coffee. it's so entertaining for him too
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ nicknames
| jay [ jay oppa ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ okay, you might think that's it's boring and not technically a nickname but trust, it means a lot
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ jay is the only member that she willingly calls oppa—on camera, in the studio, in public. the company let her drop the honorifics because some fans would make it weird, but on occasion she'll let it slip for jay, and it makes him feel so special
he'd be showing off his jacket to the camera or something. "doesn't it just scream sophistication?"
and she'd be watching in slight disgust because wow. "is jay oppa showing off the jacket again? guys he's had it for a week already."
he'd just wave her off. "she's just jealous of my sophistication."
| heran [ princess ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ ever since their weekly idol episode for their border: carnival comeback where the hosts introduced them as "princes". he got slightly irritated because it wasn't the first time that people had forgotten that heran is literally a girl
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ so to remind her that they don't see her as a man [ even if he does tease her sometimes ] he calls her "princess"
she'll be sitting in the waiting room during one of their photoshoots minding her business and he'd call her. "it's time for the group shots, princess."
Tumblr media
jake + hailey [ jaliey ]
duo name : hoez... I'M JOKING [ kind of ] it's actually grammarz [ they're both constantly correcting everyone's grammar. they go wild on weverse bro, humbling engenes left and right ]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ contact names
jake : stalker??? [ an inside joke from i-land ]
heran : walking lawsuit [ because she's always caught up in something unintentionally ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ the duHOE. flirts of the century if you will. when jake heard that heran was from the u.s back in i-land he was sprinting at her because he needed a friend. they bonded over the fact that they both spoke english, but jake felt that she was the closest thing he had to home at the time
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they're always doing some wack shit when they're together. they often go out together and heran is a homebody, but if jake asks her she'll go anywhere
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ he wasn't confident during i-land or at the start of their career, but she was always there to help him and reassure him that he was making progress and doing a great job
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they like to tease each other, but not to the extreme of sunoo, heeseung and sunghoon. usually it's just jake shoving heran and her doing it back until they're going back and forth, falling into doors and stuff until jay breaks it up
| jailey does!
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they're always listening to music together and recommending songs to each other. they don't even vibe to songs normally, there has to be maximum movement and screaming
"dude, are you listening to this shit!" she'll scream, her hands on her head while he's running laps around the room
"I can't—wait! THAT BEAT DROP!!!"
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they steal each other's jewellery like it's nobody's business. heran has quite a collection because she's obsessed with dainty jewellery. they're both tiffany and co ambassadors with sunghoon, so it makes sense
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they're always having full-blown photography sessions. the members get so fed up when they're in public and jake and heran stop to take pictures
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they go to the park and play football together, riki as well
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they go to concerts together too. they were practically the main event when bruno mars came to seoul
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they love copying each other's accents
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ stealing each other's phones just to take selfies and make it their wallpapers
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ nicknames
| jake [ jakey ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ there's no special meaning behind this unfortunately, it's just really funny. it happened during a fancall, and sadly for jake it was one of those... and the fan called him "jakey" in what she thought was cute
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ but naurrrr. it became a running joke within the group, especially to heran who was sitting right next to him during that fancall. he tried so hard not to react but she literally rolled off her chair laughing
she'll be monitoring him during a photoshoot. "doesn't jakey look good engenes? oh... now he's biting his lip again, someone throw something at him!"
| heran [ lily ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ there's nothing special about this either. he just heard her mom call her this one time and couldn't foe the life of him let it go
"lily and I went thrifting yesterday, we got some crazy good stuff. seriously, she found this vintage lighting mcqueen t-shirt."
Tumblr media
sunghoon + heran [ hoonran ]
duo name : visualz
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ contact names
sunghoon : mirror enthusiast [ he checks his reflection more than he breathes ]
heran : brat noona [ she's younger than him but has the audacity of an older sister ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ it's absolute chaos when these two are together. you'd think that because they're both introverts that it'd be quiet enough to hear a pin drop but noooooo. these mfs don't shut up
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ it all went downhill when heran said that he was "okay looking" during i-land. he tried to bring it up with her and she was like "I said what I said" and he took that shit personal
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they're always screaming and for what? when they're together they genuinely can't laugh at a normal volume, it's impossible
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ sunghoon was pretty awkward around her at first because that's just how he is, but that only gave her even more leverage to make fun of him
"I asked you how practice is going for the evaluation, why are you sweating buckets?"
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ he was so scared of her during i-land because she was super intimidating, and when he got to know her he said he had every right to be. they share everything, I'm talking water bottles, food, clothes, you name it
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ heran doesn't like the fact that sunghoon is so insecure about himself so she does everything she can to prove him wrong—she's always there when he needs a pick-me up and he does the same for her
| hoonran does!
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ sunghoon always gives her piggy back rides, not even willingly. they'll just be walking and she'll run up behind him and jump on his back
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they have these random moments of eye contact where they just stare at each other in silence [ to assert dominance of course ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they jump up and down before performances as a way to get rid of their nerves
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they're always poking each other too for some reason
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they give each other back-rubs if one of them isn't feeling well
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ awkward pats on the back
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ nicknames
| sunghoon [ hoon ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ what if I told you that she had this nickname clocked before the rest of the fandom? what if I told you that she was the founder? what if I told you that he told her to call him "hoon" more often?
"hoon! help me, this bag is so heavy!"
"it's literally just three sandwiches... what the hell is your problem?"
| heran [ moonie ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ what if I told you that he actually put so much thought into this nickname? what I told you it's because a fan said that heran reminded them of the sun and he disagreed wholeheartedly? what if I told you that he spent 5 minutes on that fan call telling that engene why heran is the perfect depiction of the moon, because regardless of her dull moments she's still shining?
"do you guys know that moonie doesn't know when to shut up?"
Tumblr media
| sunoo + heran [ ranoo ]
duo name : bubblez
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ contact names
sunoo : professional instigator [ he starts shit and then watches from the side ]
heran : braincell thief [ he loses iq points whenever she speaks ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ you know those best friends that are always glaring at each other or side-eyeing when they see something that they're definitely gonna talk about later? yeah, that's them
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ when they met during i-land, sunoo immediately gave heran a hug because he could tell that they were going to be great friends
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they're literally partners in crime. they're always ganging up on the members, and bro don't even get me started when they're paired up together for games
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they have a lot of harmless banter but always hug it out
"I'm sorry that I said you do your skincare as if you were preparing for cremation," she'd say.
"and I'm sorry that I said that at least people would come to my funeral."
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ sunoo makes sure that heran doesn't compare herself to anyone else, and reminds her that they wouldn't have the group any other way and that without her it wouldn't be the same
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ heran always tells him that he's just as important as everyone else, and that she'll choke him if he says that he isn't
| ranoo does!
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they usually do their skincare together and use it as an excuse to gossip without the members listening
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ whispering to each other from across the room because they can't wait till later
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they share immediate eye contact when they see something they're going to talk about later. seriously, imagine these two at award shows. the fans wanna know what they're talking about! like, share with the class!
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ endless eye rolls
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ backhanded comments
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they love going to cafes and restaurants together and try to make it a weekly outing
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they're always tackling each other into hugs instead of hugging like normal people
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ nicknames
| sunoo [ noonie ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ blame the aegyo. she lost around on en-o'clock [ which is super rare ] and her punishment was to do aegyo for sunoo. we prefer not to talk about it...
"I love you noonie!"
| heran [ leader-nim ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ during dimension: dilemma era when she was helping them with the choreography it slipped once to tease her. but then dimension: answer hit and this girl had them running in circles before practice, she made them stay after recording sessions, and even directed them for certain shots during music video shoots. jungwon found it hilarious and let sunoo lead with it
"okay, you're doing great but sunoo can you open up your body a bit more?" she'd say during practice and he'd just roll his eyes.
"yes leader-nim. jungwon she's coming for your job, I suggest you put up a fight "

jungwon + heran [ hewon ]
duo name : soulmatez
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ contact names
jungwon : dictator lite™ (loml) [ he's strict with the other members, but let's her get away with everything ]
heran : let bro sleep (loml) [ he's convinced that she runs on 3 hours of sleep ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ them. soulmates. from the second they locked eyes when heran made her entrance into the i-land building. heeseung pointed out that jungwon did taekwondo too and she jokingly raised her fists with the most breathtaking smile he'd ever seen
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ red string theory. heran had won every taekwondo match she's taken part in since the age of 5. but there was one where she tied—and that person she sparred with just happened to be jungwon. she was so upset at the time, they were 14, and they had each other's names on their trophies and everything. then at the end of i-land she ended up tying with someone again—jungwon! YUP!
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they were in the same class throughout high-school as well, and jungwon had a thing for her but she didn't know who he was. he was out here secretly trying to give her valentines day gifts before they were even on the survival show, staring at her whenever he could and she was oblivious
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ heran thinks he's adorable and she loves it when he gets flustered
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they do everything together. they're always looking at each other with so much love and admiration. it makes your heart melt. at first, jungwon was super shy around her, but it didn't take long for them to get comfortable
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they fall into complete comfort just at the sight of each other. it's so cute that it's aggravating
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ jungwon prefers to go to heran for advice because they're the same age, and because he feels like she makes talking about things so much easier. the members say that often when they wake him up, he isn't in his bed and find him passed out in heran's bed
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ at some point heran felt that she was too dependent on jungwon [ she has really bad anxiety ] but he told her that it was the same for him
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they're just so wholesome and they're always touching in some way. holding hands, hugging, cuddling, playing with each other's hair, holding pinkies, heran's leg on jungwon's lap, the list goes on
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ you know when your crush says that you look good in something, so you make it your mission to wear it more often? yeah, they're the epitome of that
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ heran said that jungwon looked really good with necklaces on, like dainty silver chains. HA! this boy makes sure that he's wearing a silver chain just so that she can see. during the dark : blood era it was like she was in heat every time she was around him. bro said that she liked his shoulders, HE MADE IT HIS MISSION TO TAKE HIS JACKET OFF WHENEVER HE COULD!
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ she started working out a lot at some point to release stress, he saw how toned her arms were and said, "if I had arms like that I'd never wear a shirt". ha ha ha!! she only wears black spaghetti straps at home now. there was a moment on live that fans constantly talk about, it was during the time when heran only wore baggier clothes, she lifted her arms and her stomach showed. MY BOY WAS SWEATING BULLETS!! engenes were going crazy but he was going CRAZIER!! so to tease him every so often she'll "casually" lift her shirt with the excuse that it's too hot outside
| hewon does!
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ skin ship. skin ship. skin ship.
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they have just dance battles when they're free or have time off
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ late night walks. it started a few months after border : carnival where they'd go out to the park, but then it became routine
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ sharing airpods hehe
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they love love loveeee making playlists for each other! it's actually heran's love language, seeing as she's such a music fanatic.
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ heran's playlist for jungwon—my won and only
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ jungwon's playlist for heran—that feeling when : heran
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they're always falling asleep on each other too, which is normal
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ separation anxiety. not even in a cute way. nah they genuinely start tweaking if they're away from the other for too long
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they have reassuring hand squeezes because they're wholesome like that
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they have matching necklaces!! because of heran's tiffany and co ambassadorship, they gifted the group some custom necklaces with their initials BUT she has jungwon's and he has hers
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ she is obsessed with his dimples!! she loves poking them and just telling him how cute they are
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they have a handshake. of course they have one ugh. they do it before performances, and it's the most disgustingly cute thing ever.
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they have inside jokes galore to the point where you just have to let them have their moment and accept the fact that nobody else matters to them
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ nicknames
| jungwon [ wonie ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ nothing much behind this besides the fact that it's cute. it had a nice ring to it and she grew rather attached to it
"wonie, baby, what the hell are you doing?"
| heran [ rannie, angel ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ he wanted them to have matching nicknames that's all. and he preferres to call hers a "term of endearment" because it means that there was more love behind it
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ he calls her angel because... because you need to experience it for yourself. this isn't even a plug for the book, it's a, "you just had to be there" moment, okay! no amount of explanation can do it justice
she'll just be doing the bare minimum for real. even before they were officially a couple, like compliment him or give him something. and he'd say, "thank you, angel." RAHHHH!
Tumblr media
riki + heran [ heri ]
duo name : troublez
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ contact names
riki : nonchalant demon child [ no explanation needed ]
heran: 5'7 but scary [ self explanatory ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ baby 1 and baby 2, but only around evah other. out of all the boys during i-land, riki was the only trainee that she willingly approached. he was super confused when she started speaking to him in japanese—he started looking around the room in complete panic. but when she complimented him the second time, he managed to respond
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ despite only being a year apart, they have their dynamic where they're always making fun of everyone and laughing at their own memes and videos
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ heran is the number 1 riki protector and always makes sure that he's okay whether it be in public or at the dorm. they're always taking pictures together and were dubbed the 'photography duo' because they're usually in charge of taking the pictures that get uploaded on social media
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ he's still young so she tries her best with him, mothering him and whatnot. jungwon is borderline jealous of him for this and riki loves to tease him, especially during vlives, he'll go over to heran and put his head on her shoulder and she'll start to play with his hair and riki will just give the most diabolical laugh known to man
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ he can't pull his nonchalant act with her. it doesn't fucking work! he'll try to be all mysterious and shit and she'll look at him and bro is GONE.
she made a point about it and was like, "I remember when you used to beg me to let you sleep on my bed. now you don't even want to sit with me."
he was like pfffft as if. "I'm not 16 anymore so yeah I guess."
SHE STARTED TWEAKING. "oh? so you don't love me anymore? just say so! no need to act all tough you big baby."
he left the room but he felt SO BADDD!! two minutes later he's back with his pillow, telling her to move over. she's like hmmm suspicious but let's him because she's a wonderful person. NONCHALANT MY ASS! THIS MF HIT HER WITH THE "wow, so you're not going to hold me? I should be asking you if you even love me anymore."
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they're called troublez for a reason. if any of the members would be criminals, it'd be them
| heri does!
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ just like her and heeseung do karaoke lives every two weeks, her and riki do dance jam lives
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they love choreographing together. and since heran is the group's dance leader, she tries to include riki as much as possible because he deserves it. she's always asking for his opinions and ideas
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they play rock paper scissors to decide everything. and when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. the most noticeable case is during award show speeches. usually riki will say something for the japanese fans because he's JAPANASE! but he hates speaking bruh so he'll ask heran to fight it out with him. imagine, the members are standing professionally while jungwon is delivering his speech and these two mfs are fighting it out at the back! playing rock paper scissors as if it were a life or death situation, nearly breaking out into an argument ON STAGE
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they often go sightseeing together. when they're on tour or shooting something then they'll be the first members to leave the hotel
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ heran calls him "cutie" when he was a teenager he was okay with it and then once again the nonchalant epidemic changed things. he gets soooo flustered
"hey cutie. are you ready for your solo shoot?" she'll ask causally and he'd just let out the biggest sigh ever and nod, avoiding eye contact. "aw he's shy. engenes, riki's shyyyy."
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ they're always analysing their performances and dance practices together. they'll stay after practice to go over everything with their performance director
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ when he's tired, riki will straight up just flop down on her. she'd just be relaxing and he'd lay on top of her, silently hoping that she'd get the hint and run her fingers through his hair
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ he spends quite a bit of time in heran's studio to watch her. he'll make himself comfortable on her couch, with some pillows and snacks and just listen to her work. he loves the atmosphere
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ she's the first person he goes to when he has a question
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ riki always has an idea for heran. he'll go to her and drop the craziest idea for a song with the most honest look in his eyes. "noona, hear me out." she listens to him of course and appreciates his creativity but wtf are "power rangers with robot dinosaurs in space" supposed to sound like?
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ nicknames
| riki [ ki ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ don't be fooled by how cute this is, she has an entire list of names she'd call him just to clown him. rikster, riki minaj, riko—but to be nice she'll stick to ki because it's more socially acceptable
"ki, can you stay after practice for a bit please? I need your help with something."
| heran [ sensei-noona ]
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ I wish this was a joke. he said that heran is practically his mentor, and has taught him so much and therefore pulled the 'sensei' card, but for the life of him, he couldn't drop the honorifics
"I've been going to the gym with noona a lot recently. she's been helping me, sensei-noona is a workout pro."

How about if the reader (that's us) were Samara Morgan (from the movie The Ring)?
Y'know what, I can see it. Chronically online loser boy with a fixation on horror manages to obtain an old VCR tape that's supposedly cursed. When it comes, he's practically bouncing on his heels with excitement. He went to the thrift shop all on his own to get a VCR to watch it on and everything!
When he pops the tape in, all that excitement drains away. He was expecting something spectacularly creepy, something he could brag to his buddies on r/GenuinelyHauntedGoodies about. Instead it's just a low quality tape with shitty b-roll and bad sound.
When the phone rings the second the tape ends, he assumes it's the pizza guy getting lost again.
"I told you, it's Elm Street. Not Eve-"
"Seven days..." Your voice is scratchy with static and his heart jumps in his chest.
"Yo, I think you've got the wrong numb-"
Click.
For someone so into horror, he's real slow to pick up on the signs in his own life. Nightmares about a well and a dead girl? He just had too much Mountain Dew before bed. Doors creaking in the middle of the night? Must be the humidity messing with the hinges. The guy who sold him the tape calling him in a panic two days before his obituary shows up in the paper? Weird, but definitely a coincidence.
It's only when the tape starts playing on its own that he starts to get a little sketched out. It's probably just the VCR being old and stuff, right? He forces the tape out of the slot and the screen goes black. See? Just the side effects of old, obsolete technology. He's halfway out the door before he hears it.
Click.
He freezes. He can hear the static again, the sound of leaves crunching under your feet. He turns and there you are, getting closer and closer to the screen, your dress soaked and sticking to your skin.
Holy shit. Holy. SHIT. Haunted dead girl and she's a total babe.
When you put your palms on the glass and start pushing your way into the real world, he almost can't believe his luck. It's finally happening! A genuine haunting! He's been waiting for years.
You expect him to scream, to run away, to start praying to a God he only half believes in. Instead he squats down so you're on eye level and asks...
"Can you do the back bend thing from the Exorcist? 'Cause I think that would be like so hot."
You growl, throat still waterlogged. He tuts and waves the tape in front of your face.
"Full words babe. You want to keep haunting people right? Want to get back to your cozy little well?"
He looks you over and can barely believe you're real. A hot girl on her knees is his living room? Hell fucking yeah!
"Listen up hot stuff. You do what I say and I won't crush your little tape into dust, 'kay? I'll even let you keep killing people in your spare time, if it's that important to you."
You blink. What is wrong with this guy? You've seen plenty of coping mechanisms, but this is just taking the piss.
He gets impatient waiting for you to answer. "Fine. If you want to do things the hard way..."
He stands and brings the tape down on the edge of the coffee table. Hard. The plastic cracks right along the centre and small black chips scatter across the room.
You flinch and pull backwards. He follows you, opposite edges of the tape in each hand like he wants to snap it straight in half.
"What do you say gorgeous? We got a deal?"
There are some things not even a ghost is equipped to deal with.
"Fine," you rasp, "Deal."
"Sweet!" He shoves the tape in his back pocket. "Now about the back bend thing..."
The world is full of freaks and horrors. And you make the mistake of thinking you're the only one.

Sho's kind, reasonably so. Leo knows this. Sho also has an infinite store of deeply repressed anger. Leo also knows this. It's the reason he's in Vagastrom, after all. A deep, roiling anger that seems to eat at him if he doesn't have an appropriate outlet to balance his mood. That's why he's such a good cook, why he's so good at fighting, why he's got an excellent sense of balance and rides his bike smoother than anyone else he knew. He's using these things as outlets for his anger. It's not Leo's fault that the occasional outing to trick and deceive another sexually repressed rich old man for money is something else Sho seems to derive stress relief from. And it's not Leo's fault that Sho continues to stick around with him after those jobs are done. It's never been a problem for either of them, as far as he can tell. At least, there were no problems until Little Miss Inspector showed up.
Suddenly, Sho didn't want to lie anymore. Suddenly, Sho wanted to go as far as to address you with the proper honorifics, ask for your help with setting up his food truck, and even generally spend time with you outside of that. And for what? Some trembling, scared, pathetic girl that knew nothing of the world of anomalies prior to her curse? Some girl doomed to "die" in less than one year, no less? He couldn't understand the kindness Sho showed you. It made no sense, nor any difference. You'd be dead soon, so what did it matter?
It's got to the point where he's begun to randomly put you down with petty insults and biting remarks. They usually consist of things like "Oh my god, even preschoolers know Anomalous Biological Basics! Come on Inspector, is your head screwed on right? Not even the Captain is this stupid." or "You remember your ability is useless when we need it, right? You'd be nothing more than a burden on missions if you can't even control this power. " or even "God, you're such a basic loser. Can't you find something else to do with your free time instead hang around Sho like a lovesick puppy? You're starting to look like that dog that's always around Kagami." and worse insults. He gets the occasional sidelong disapproving glance from Alan or even a slight furrowed brow from Sho, but it didn't matter to Leo. So long as he could slowly plant seeds of doubt in his fellow ghouls and put you down to satisfy his ego, even an odd look was negligible.
He couldn't even stand looking at you. The uniform they'd chosen for you was awful, didn't even highlight your curves. He hated the way you styled your hair, and always thought he could totally do it better. The way you seemed so relaxed around other ghouls pissed him off, why couldn't he be good company? He found you repulsive, unable to resist glaring at you from the corner of his eye whenever he could. He had to get rid of you somehow. He would never admit to feeling threatened by you; instead choosing to focus all that energy into believing you were simply throwing a wrench into his plans to live an easy, get-away-with-anything university life.
It's all come to a head today. Leo thinks he's had enough of seeing you at the food truck after hours, chatting it up with Sho. It's like he can't even catch this guy alone anymore. Before he knows it, he's made a beeline for the truck. His brand new shoes scuff on the brick path in his rush, and eventually begin to stain green on the grass, his brisk stride tearing through the verdant lawn. He tries not to let his anger show on his face, but it's evident in his posture and pace. He forcefully sidles himself into the conversation, leaning on the service counter next to you, not even waiting for you to finish speaking before he pipes up. "Wow, here again, huh? And here I thought a basic bitch like you would know her place! That mouth of yours must be good for something if he keeps a chatterbox like you around."
The chill settles into the air almost immediately despite his candid tone and relaxed, smug smile. He's so focused on your reaction that he hardly notices the look Sho gives him, twisted with displeasure and confusion. He watches as you visibly falter, your lopsided smile fading into a barely-there frown. He stares, unrepentant, laughing internally. This was the reaction he wanted.
He turns towards Sho and raises an eyebrow at his look. "What? She can take it." Sho's expression visibly wavers, and Leo fully expects him to back down, as he usually does. But instead, Sho turns to you and his face grows pale. Leo rolls his eyes, assuming Sho is totally overreacting, and turns to you. He stiffens at your visible tears. Okay, totally not what he expected, but come on. This was the insult that made you cry?
Leo notices Sho is at your side in record speed, wrapping an arm around your shoulders, and gently drawing your hunched form away, giving Leo a harsh look. Leo simply scoffs. As far as he was concerned, your reaction was pathetic. It wasn't going to stop him from having any fun.
Tumblr media
This. Under no circumstances should this hurt. At all.
Leo had noticed you'd been avoiding him. You would slink away if he so much as entered the same room as you. You wouldn't look him in the eyes if he approached, keeping your expression impassive. Sometimes you'd just outright ignore him. It was beginning to become a bit of a nuisance. He couldn't properly mock you if you weren't there to witness it happening, or didn't give him the reaction he wanted. It was odd. When he faced these feelings head-on, it almost felt like he wanted your attention somehow, even if he didn't quite want it to feel like that. A nagging feeling told him that maybe he went too far with his latest insult. He didn't want to admit that, but something told him he did. It was in the way both you and Sho acted around him.
Sho was missing a lot of Leo's calls lately, sometimes not even bothering to call back. Leo partially understood, what with the food truck business booming and all, but he didn't appreciate being made to wait for his own best friend who's usually at his beck and call. Not to mention the flat, terse responses he would get from Sho more often than not nowadays. Leo knew Sho was miffed with him from last week's incident, but as far as Leo was concerned, things still ended in his favor. He hadn't seen you around Sho much anymore, which means he could go back to how things were. No more pesky little honor student to reign upon his days any longer! Sure, there was the biting underlying feeling that maybe he'd screwed things up, but one ride on the back of Sho's motorcycle, going wherever Leo wanted as per usual, and he was living the dream again. No way everything would change over a silly, insignificant insult.
For a short while, he begins to get bolder, openly mocking you when he does come across you. His originally surface-level remarks become rather personal, even using your eventual death as a way to tease you. From "You know, I'm surprised you haven't done anything to change up that unflattering look, considering you're dying soon. Ever considered dressing up a little? You might get some attention before you die." to "Hey, Little Miss Inspector! With the number of men you talk to around campus, I'm surprised nobody's written you off as a whore yet!", and worse, of course. He continues to get no such reaction out of you, and it frustrates him to no end. Why couldn't you just frown? Shrink away? Or even retort something just as scathing back to him? Your lack of entertainment towards his endless ridicule reduced his motivation, and slowly, it ended up dying off. Soon, he left you alone altogether, not talking to you unless necessary, mimicking your actions. In a way, some part of him hopes maybe this will be what gets your attention. Even if he can't quite admit to himself that your attention, regardless of whether it's positive or negative, is what he wants.
Tumblr media
It's late, but Vagastrom students don't go to bed until far later. And Leo needs a favor.
His crushing lack of success in garnering any sort of attention or reaction or rise from you had driven him to a point. He didn't want to apologize to you or anything, but this new habit of you ignoring him was beginning to stoke his displeasure. In his pondering, he remembered how easily Sho captured your gaze and wondered if maybe he'd have any idea of what Leo could do to at least put an end to this stalemate.
Leo's reluctance shows in the way he drags his feet on the path to Sho's room, less than eager to confront him for his opinion on something so shamelessly trivial. Why was he wasting his time with this anyway? Surprisingly, the lack of a solid answer to that question did not stop his trek. A twinge in his chest told him he knew exactly why he was "wasting his time".
In the month it had been since he'd made you cry, the nagging feeling had only gotten harsher. His mind kept flickering back to the shock of your tears and how he'd not bothered to consider it much further. An uncomfortable guilt had made itself known starting then. He never really expected you to cry; he just wanted a mild reaction. He wanted your eyes on him, flashing with anger, just for a moment. Your ire was a saccharine pill laced with ecstasy that he'd gladly crush with his teeth to speed up his high. Maybe it'd be too much to say he got off on it, but he enjoyed the way you used to roll your eyes at any comments from him a little more than he cared to admit. Now, he wouldn't even get that. It'd be rare for you to so much as make fleeting eye contact with him, not that something as small as that would be enough for Leo. Part of him was willing to accept that maybe, he'd gone too far. Maybe. But how else was he supposed to monopolize your attention when you give that out so freely? To his best friend, even?
He didn't know it was possible to covet something so terribly. He found himself wondering why he couldn't catch your attention in the same way as the other ghouls? In his quest for the same attention you gave so freely to the kinder, softer ghouls, he found another version of your attention. It was negative, but it was attention nonetheless. Your sweet, honeyed rage seemed to fill his cravings and then some, so he continued to devour it under the guise of "chasing you away" or "putting you down" or "satisfying his ego". In truth, for whatever reason, there was a rather bothersome and persistent envious longing, a covet, for your attention. Leo wants to vomit. A part of him denies it still, pushing his needless feelings to the back of his brain. He had something to do, and he ought to focus on that. What good would mere wallowing do?
He makes it to Sho's room and almost considers turning back. He stares at the door, his expression morphing into a complicated look. He shifted his feet, his slippers sliding against the floor. It was quite clear he really did not want to do this. At all. He sighs and grumbles indignantly, putting his head in his hands in an attempt to gather some courage. This couldn't be that hard, right? Just in, ask Sho a question, get an answer, then out. The only reason this was easier said than done was just because it could potentially show Leo was capable of feeling remorse, which would make this conversation leagues harder than it needed to be. He shakes his head and straightens up, preparing to knock, when he notices something.
Sho's room was... unusually quiet. Usually, Leo almost always heard some loud music or a cooking show running in the background, but he couldn't hear anything this time. Sho couldn't possibly be asleep. As late as it was, the only person who Leo knew for a fact could stay up past him was Sho, regardless of how much sleep he had gotten. There was no chance Sho was asleep. Believe it or not, Leo doesn't like to spy on Sho. But curiosity overwhelms him. What could he possibly be doing that would render the whole room in silence?
"Haxs," he whispers, listening closely.
The first thing he hears is the cling-clanging of Alan hard at work on a car in the garage. Not the sound he was meant to be focusing on. Then he hears endless jeering and loud insults shouted, though they're all muffled like they're underground. Another pit fight? Still, not the sound he's looking for. He sifts through the sounds he hears before he settles on the one coming directly from Sho's room.
Voices. Groaning, strained voices. The sound of wet skin against wet skin. Panting. Sho's panting, specifically. He could tell by the slight nasally tone of it.
Leo felt his face gradually warm. Christ, of course it'd be this he'd be up to. Leo muffles a laugh into the collar of his pajamas, keeping his hand clamped over his mouth as his body shook with mirth. When he finally calms down, he slinks off to the corner down the hall, and hides himself there, shamelessly still listening to it. Sho's a sly dog. Leo certainly didn't expect him to be getting up to anything this soon. He leans his body against the wall, crossing his arms and drumming his fingers on his arm, waiting for Sho to finish. He smirks to himself, as though enjoying the vocal show.
...
He had to admit, whoever he was with had gorgeous moans. He'd have to ask Sho if he'd be willing to pass this girl's number. He could use a couple things to get his mind off of you.
...
Okay, he had to stop listening to this now. He lifts his stigma and holds his hands over his ears for good measure, partially trying to hide the furious red blush across his face. As pretty as that girl's moans were, he was not going to listen to his best friend's climax. No thanks. He huffs out an impatient breath as his cheeks cool down, leaning his back against the wall, leaning his head back until it hit the wall with a dull thump. Now he just had to wait it out. He knew damn well Sho would never let a girl stay over. He'd never hear the end of it from yours truly, Leo.
Leo's right. It isn't long before he hears the door to Sho's room click, and hears murmured voices travel down the hall. He smirks, rushing down the hall in the opposite way, so it doesn't look like he was listening the whole time. He listens, waiting for a cue of some sort.
"Shame you have to go, you know." Sho's voice. Laced with relief, pleasure, and a thick tiredness. Leo's skin crawled. He could practically feel the smile in Sho's voice.
"It's not so bad." The girl responded with a light and playful tone, her voice seemingly much more put together than Sho's despite all that moaning. The voice sounded oddly familiar, but Leo brushed it off. Must be someone he shares classes with. "I've got things to do anyway. But it was nice to spend some time with you, Sho." Eagh. Leo internally hopes this girl isn't the type to get easily attached.
"...Yeah. Same to you. Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
Finally, he heard the girl's footsteps trailing down the hall, heading in his direction. Leo hurriedly pulls his phone out of his pocket, making sure the screen was bright as he flipped through the latest trends. He made a point of not looking up until he heard the footsteps nearing him.
He looks up, prepared for a simple glance, but ends up being rooted to the spot.
It was you. Of course, it was you. Who else would be taunting enough?
Despite himself, his gaze remains glued to you, his head turning as you walk past him. For a moment, Leo thinks you're just going to ignore him again. Then, suddenly, your gaze meets his in a flash, and he stiffens, almost out of fear. The way your eyebrows crease and the way your lips twitch downward almost makes him salivate. You were clearly displeased to see him. Even so, he notices you don't slow down, continuing your way down the hall, not bothering to crane your neck to look at him.
Leo remains rooted to the spot, watching your figure as you leave. His jaw hangs open slightly, his chest heaving with shocked breaths. His eyes are wide open, pools of gold reflecting your retreating form. His hand trembles as he holds his phone, the latest trends left neglected in the wake of a single mean-spirited glance from you. He feels his heart pound mercilessly in his chest, as though confirming what he'd tried so desperately to deny.
All at once, anger and arousal seem to grip him simultaneously. Anger at himself for feeling arousal from a mere negative glance from you. He couldn't possibly have craved your attention so viscerally he'd happily accept mere scraps. And yet here he was, a lap dog, watching you as you leave as though silently begging for another glance, another chance to watch your eyes burn with that familiar, delicious anger, another meal to satisfy his starved heart.
For a moment, he would have gladly followed you, and pestered you to death, just to irk you and become a willing victim of your wrath. Anything... just for that attention.

response-producing stimulus: mc's anger
mere-exposure effect: psychological effect in which a like or dislike of things is developed merely due 2 familiarity.

Hii!
Can I please ask for an angsty fic with Max, where the reader defends him from Jos after not finishing his race in Melbourne...idk if you remember when Max kept his helmet for four hours after a race because he was afraid of what Jos would have done to him after not winning...and the reader basically tells Jos to get lost even if she's like 5'4 and definitely not as intimidating as them both lol.
And then maybe after the win in Suzuka, they "reconcile" but she still reminds him to act right around her boyfriend, who's now a man and not a little boy he could pressure like he once did.
Sorry if it's too long!! Thanks for taking your time and reading my request!
Guard Dog
Pairing: Max x Reader
Summary: You are sick and tired of watching Max take Jos' shit
TW: verbal abuse
A/n: thank you soooo much for the rec, I love writing these out so much <3
requests open masterlist
----------------
"Maxie... are you okay?" you wait patiently by the door to his driver's room, careful not to barge in like Jos would, as you have for the past year since you first witnessed Jos' beratement of his son. He is sitting on the couch with his helmet between his hands. The fire causing an unpleasant start to the race, and you are just glad you got here first.
"I'm okay," his voice cracks and you step into the room, closing the door behind you. "I know it wasn't my fault, but I can't help but feel like it was my fault," Max looks in your eyes, the fire brewing behind them. You were genuinely the sweetest girl he's ever met, and to get you mad took a lot. God help you if Jos shows up, you are tired of Max feeling bad even when he podiums.
"You're right, you didn't do anything wrong, the car failed you today," you stay calm, sitting beside him and cuddling into him. Max stays quiet, enjoying your warmth, and decompressing from the start. He can understand why the fans were so happy to see him lose, in fact, if he wasn't himself, he would join them. No, the fear of his father is what has him on edge. Rightfully so, because a few seconds later the door is slammed open again.
"Max, what the hell did you-" Jos starts and you launch yourself off the couch. Jos and Max were big guys, and you were average height for a woman, 5'6 or so, but you didn't seem like it in that moment.
"Shut the hell up and leave. You have nothing useful to say and you are going to shift blame to Max who had NO fault in the DNF," you snarl, setting yourself up as a barrier between the two, Jos still in the doorway and Max on the couch.
"Girl, I don't know who you think you are, but I am Max's father, and I can-," You cut Jos off before he can continue.
"No, you aren't his father. A father doesn't talk to his son like that, you are simply a man who shares the same last name as Max. A father is someone like Carlos Sainz Sr or Lawrence Stroll. No, you are a man- sorry a boy in a man's body- who can't cope with the fact that he doesn't race anymore and wants the man who shares the same last name with him to be impossibly perfect and win every single race, even when the car breaks down." You sneer at the man. "You need to leave, before I call security and make them remove you," you don't back down, instead you step closer. Max watches in both awe and fear.
"I-"
"Leave, Jos, now. Don't make me repeat myself," you say, practically slamming the door behind him. You turn around and look at Max, seemingly calm and normal. He looks at you bewildered.
"That was the sexiest thing ever. Thank you, Schatje, you didn't have to do that," Max hugs you, a large weight off of his shoulders.
"Of course I did, who else will be your guard dog?" You smile at him, squeezing him tighter. "Now, get changed and get back to the garage," you tell Max, stepping out to the room. You let out a deep breath, surprised with how you treated Jos and stood up for Max. A couple minutes later, Max rejoins you, quickly stopping inside hospitality for a snack.
The two of you avoid Jos, going extremely low contact, not that he was trying to. Jos would never admit it, but he was embarrassed at how you spoke to him, and his retreat allowed him to ignore it. Instead, you and Max enjoyed your time together in Japan. The both of you were aware Jos was there, but chose to ignore it. After Max won, Jos warily approached the two of you.
"I wanted to congratulate you on winning. You drove well," Jos says stiffly, silently calling for a truce. You let Max take the lead on the conversation.
"Thank you," he says, feeling like a little boy again, but accepting the temporary truce.
"It was good seeing you Jos, but we need to go," you interject, sensing the still tense atmosphere. The older man, still a little scared of you despite your sweet demeanor, lets you go, not quite willing to cross you again.
"Love you, Maxie"
"Love you too, Schatje,"

My Masterlist! ~ A03 Link! ~ Tip Jar!
Part IX - Part XI (TBA)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Got a second to talk?”
“Yeah.” You respond after a moment of hesitation, your voice raspy with sleep. “Yeah, let me just grab my coat.” You shove your feet into your boots. You glance at the group in your living room, silently telling them to stay put. All four of them looked ready to rush to your rescue without hesitation. But, if they got involved, it would only make the situation even riskier than it already could be. You shrug on your winter coat before stepping onto your landing. “Something wrong, officer?”
“That’s what I came here to ask you.” He responds. “Got a call? An unfamiliar pickup truck showed up in your lot. Four suspicious men were seen approaching your apartment.” He looks down in the lot at the beat-up truck sitting next to your car. “I'd say there's a pretty good chance they're still here.”
“That's really why you're banging on my door at the ass crack of dawn?” You ask in an annoyed tone, crossing your arms over your chest. “Well, I'm going to tell you right now, you're not getting in here without a fucking warrant-” He cuts you off by firmly saying your name.
“I'm not here to arrest anyone.” He explains in an attempt to try and diffuse your hostility. “I'm just here to check in. Are you in trouble? Do you need help?” He whispers, eyes darting between the door and your less-than-pleased expression.
You let out an aggravated sigh, “Mike, listen… the only reason I'm not running you off my property right now is because you've helped me out in the past. If I needed your help, I would ask for it. I'm not going to let you show up here and harass me or any of them because some fucking backwoods country bumpkin wants to demonize a different way of living.” You take a deep breath, seeing the genuine concern on his face. “This… isn't like last time; they wouldn't hurt me. I'm safe, promise.” He looks at the door and then back at you.
“If you even get the feeling that something is wrong, you call me.” You nod.
“Get back to the station. Your wife would be worried sick if she knew you were out driving right now.” You nodded to his vehicle, watching him descend the stairs before heading back inside the apartment. You stepped through the door, kicking off your boots and hanging up your coat with a sigh of relief now that the situation was over.
“Thank god, you're safe.” Vessel pulls you into his arms, his voice thick with worry. “What did he want?”
“Someone called to report an unfamiliar vehicle and four suspicious individuals entering my house last night; he was just swinging by for a wellness check.” You reassure him. “He might be a bit of a hard ass, but he means well. I'm sure he won't give you guys any trouble.”
“Bit of a sour start to our first morning all together, isn't it?” III chuckles, making the rest of the group laugh.
“And here I was, looking forward to cuddling up with you.” Vessel purrs, the tension from your unexpected visitor quickly melting away as they all attempt to soothe your nerves.
“Nothing is saying that can't still happen, Ves,” II responds with a smile. You see a devious smirk quickly pass over Vessel’s features. You yelp, and your feet are lifted from the floor in one swift movement. Vessel easily tosses you over his shoulder to carry you towards your bedroom. You giggle as he gently tosses you on the bed, quickly being surrounded by warmth as the boys pile around you. You lay sandwiched between II and IV, III holding one of your hands in his as he lazily plays with your fingers. Vessel’s hand possessively wraps around the curve of your waist as he reaches over II, needing to be somehow able to touch you. It didn't take long for your eyes to grow heavy, returning to sleep for the last few hours of dawn as the new day's light began to melt away the cage of ice that had covered the surrounding trees.
You smiled as you woke up, pressing into the body's warmth behind you with a soft hum. A strong arm wrapped securely around your waist, his thumb rubbing slow, languid strokes across your hip. You reach over to find the other side of the bed empty. “-’s just you and me, lovey.” Vessel purrs. You let out a soft, pleased sigh.
“Is that so?” you ask in a slightly teasing tone, your voice still thick with sleep. Was that your plan all along? Get me in bed all alone?” He meets your playful smirk with a chuckle of his own.
“You’d like that, wouldn't you, sweetness?” he whispers, his grip tightening on your waist. Your cheeks grow warm, goosebumps erupting across your skin as you feel his lips brush over the shell of your ear. “Trust me, my first time with you isn't going to be some messy little hook-up in your bedroom.” He chuckles. “I plan on worshiping you like the divine creature you are.” A shiver runs up your spine as he presses his lips to your pulse. “Until then, we just have to be patient, don't we?”
“Fine.” You sigh in mock annoyance, making Vessel laugh softly. You rest your hand on top of his, languidly tracing the spaces between his knuckles as you allow yourself to melt into his warmth. “Where are the others?”
“They're making you breakfast. We all want to make sure you have a better day after starting on the wrong foot.” He explains softly.
“You’re sweet, " you say with a smile. “The power came back on?” He lets out a hum of approval.
“Clicked on a little while after you fell asleep.” You lay there for a few moments, enjoying the feeling of Vessel’s body molding against yours. You sigh as you attempt to roll out of bed. “And where do you think you're going?” He chuckles, tightening his grip on your waist. You roll over to face him, the playfully grumpy expression on your face making him smile. “Trying to run away without giving me a kiss? That's how it's going to be, hm?” You giggle as he pulls your lips to his.
You could get used to mornings like this. After leaving your lungs burning for air and your head spinning, Vessel lazily helped you get out of bed. Scooping you up in his arms to escort you towards the kitchen. “Well, good morning, beautiful.” III stood at the stove, bacon sizzling in the pan in front of him, IV at his side cutting up fruit and tossing it into a bowl, and II sat at the table drinking a steaming cup of coffee.
“Good morning.” You greet all of them. Vessel sets you down on the floor before collapsing into one of the other chairs that had been dragged into the kitchen. IV approaches you, holding out a piece of fresh fruit for you to bite into. He rests his hand against your cheek, carefully running his thumb under your eye.
“Eyelash.” He whispers with a chuckle. He holds it out on the end of his fingeMakemake a wish.” A smile creeps across your features at the simple request. You think about it momentarily before closing your eyes, wishing that every morning could be like this with them, and blowing the eyelash away. Your eyes flutter open to meet IV’s curious gaze. He presses his lips to your forehead before returning to the task he was completing prior.
“You hungry?” You smile as III wraps an arm around your waist, pulling you into his side.
“Starving.” You respond, giggling as he squeezes you against him, pressing a kiss to your cheek.
“I'll have breakfast done shortly, love.” You stand up on your toes, sharing a kiss through his mask before allowing him to finish cooking.
“Well, good morning, baby.” II quickly caught your attention, a warm hand settling against your waist as he pulled you into his lap. “Thought you forgot about me.” He teases with a chuckle. “My pretty girl is getting so much attention.” He squeezes your hip as his gaze lazily trails down to your lips.
“Trust me, that’s not remotely possible.” You giggle as his forehead bumps against yours, holding his lips just out of reach.
“Good,” he whispers, “because after holding you in my arms this morning, I can't seem to think of anything besides you.” Your eyes flutter shut as his lips finally brush over yours. You feel II’s legs tense underneath you as you hear IV let out a sound almost akin to a growl from across the kitchen.
“Relax.” III states in a warning tone. “You can spend time with her, too.” You watch IV’s shoulders soften under III’s intense, almost corrective demeanor. “And II, keep it respectful, yeah?” III stood like a wall between the two men, ready to launch into action at the first signs of a fight.
You hear II make an annoyed sound of approval. The fact that he seemed to be acting like a child who had just been scolded by a parent almost made you laugh. You press your lips to his cheek, “I'm going to see if they need any help.”
“Don't let them work you too hard, love.” He jokes with a wink. You laugh, shaking your head as you hop off his lap. You walk up to III, crossing your arms behind your back.
“Head chef.” You address him seriously.
“Yes, love?” He responds with a chuckle.
“Where would you like me to help?” You ask, following III’s gase as it trails over to IV. He nods in his direction, smiling at you as you walk away.
IV tenses slightly under your touch, your hand resting on his shoulder. “Everything okay?” You grab a bowl from the cabinet in front of you and place it on the counter to pour the fruit into.
“I'm sorry,” he apologizes quietly, keeping his eyes trained on the cutting board. “Guess I'm just a little jealous.”
“Is there anything I can do to help?” IV sighs, his shoulders softening as he lets some tension roll from his body.
“No, you're absolutely perfect, love.” His eyes finally meet yours, the corners crinkling slightly as he smiles. “I just need to get out of my head, I'm afraid.” He finishes with a chuckle. Your heart skips a beat at the sound of him saying your name, “promise you're still my girl?”
“Of course.” You say, shooting him a flirty smile. “Besides, you still have to take me out on that date.” He chuckles bashfully.
“Yes, I do. I just want to make sure I think of something special first.” He gently nudges your shoulder with his own. “My girl deserves only the best.” Your cheeks grow warm, the two of you sharing a small glance before finishing breakfast in silence.
“All set, sweetheart?” III asks before clearing your dishes from the table.
“I can bring my own plates to the sink; I'm not helpless, you know.” You joke.
III chuckles as he strolls up to you, “And why should my pretty girl have to lift a finger?”
“You're such a flirt.” You tease with a flustered giggle. You sigh, standing to answer your phone in the other room.
“Thank god I got a hold of ya’.” The momentary panic that had bubbled up in your chest at the sight of the contact that flashed across your phone quickly died at the familiar calm tone on the other end of the line.
“Henry, is everything alright?” Henry McMann owned the dairy farm up the road; you had grown close to him over your time running the store.
“Everything's fine. Tree fell and put a damn hole in the barn roof. I was hoping I could convince those boys you have staying with you to come down and help; I could use their pickup truck to clean up the place.” Your eyes narrowed at the request.
“How did you know they were staying here?” You question.
“Whole damn town’s talking about it, kiddo. Hell,” he starts to laugh, “at least three people have called up here this morning asking if we've heard from you.”
“You weren't the one that sent the police here, were you?”
“No, ma’am,” he responds immediately. “Your business is your business. As long as no one's getting hurt, I frankly don't give a damn what you're getting up to.”
“Let me see if I can get Vessel to come talk to you; he'll be able to help.” After some gentle convincing on your end, you managed to get him on the phone. Vessel might be wary of strangers, but despite his icy exterior, he couldn't turn down someone who needed help. After a while, he carefully hung up the phone and wordlessly approached the others.
“Let's get going; we have some work to do.” You weren't exactly sure what Henry could have said to Vessel that made him agree to head out there, but you were happy for whatever it was. Pulling up at the farm always provided this strange sense of home. Seeing Henry waiting on the porch, a dark pipe lazily perched against his lips, was a sight you'd witnessed a hundred times at this point.
“Thanks for showing up.” Henry’s hand claps into Vessel’s with a firm shake.
“Thank you for giving us the opportunity to.” Vessel responds simply. “Why don't you show us this barn.”
The tree hadn't damaged much but couldn't remain across the barn’s roof. “We need to get the sheep to the other building before we do anything.” You caught Vessel silently nodding at III, who quietly slipped from the group. You stood by as the pair formulated a plan, Henry seemingly impressed by Vessel’s initiative to help. You startled at the bleating from behind you, turning to find that III had successfully managed to herd all the sheep together.
Vessel calls your name. " Why don't you take Henry inside so you can both warm up? The more people out here, the more dangerous it'll be.”
“You don't have to tell me twice.” Henry chuckles. “You boys drink coffee? I'll get a pot started.”
“That would be great, Henry, thank you.” Vessel responds before his attention turns to you. “Go on, love. We won't be long.” The sight of his smile was enough to put you at ease. If you were being honest, this whole interaction was going a lot better than you thought it would. You were expecting Vessel to be cold and Henry to be abrasive, but the two seemed to be getting along just fine.
“Oh, wait, they're going to need some chain.” You sent Henry inside, insisting you would be right in. You were just going to jog back over and tell them where to look in the– You skidded to a halt as you rounded the corner. IV stood under the tree, his jacket discarded on the truck hood and his sleeves pushed up to his elbows. His muscles strained under the weight of the colossal trunk; with a groan and one strong push from his legs, he lifted the tree from the barn. You hear him curse before pushing the tree forward, causing it to crash loudly to the ground. You watched him grab onto his hand, droplets of blood dripping from his fingers into the pure white snow. You were immediately consumed by panic seeing him hurt, the inhuman strength you just witnessed being pushed from your mind. You yell for him, rushing forward to see the damage. “Are you okay? Let me look.” The wound wasn't anything terrible, a gash left behind by what you were assuming was a sharp branch, just enough to cause him to bleed. “Come on, let's get you cleaned up.” He wordlessly followed you, allowing you to rush him inside and past Henry to the bathroom. You kicked the door shut behind you, pulling out the first aid kit from under the sink. IV stared back at you with confusion in his eyes, apprehension rolling off him in waves as he waited for you to address what you had just witnessed. He was snapped from his daze by you softly saying his name, “Can I see?”
“Yeah.” He sighs, placing his injured hand in yours. “I'm sorry you have to play nurse,” he chuckles. I wasn't expecting that bark to be so jagged.”
“It's no problem; it's what girlfriends are for.” He breathes out a sigh of relief as you smile at him. The silence still hung thick between you as you carefully cleaned the wound, being as gentle with him as possible. “So, you're strong enough to squat a tree?”
“I guess, on a good day.” He responds in an awkward attempt at a joke.
“Can you… Can all of you–?” You make a vague flexing motion, making IV chuckle.
“To an extent, yeah.” He leans closer to you, a smugness lacing its way into his words. “I would like to point out, however, that I am quite a bit stronger than II, thank you very much.”
You smile coyly at him, “As long as you're strong enough to sweep me up in your arms, that's all I care about.”
“You're acting like that would be much of a problem.” You swallow thickly, your heart racing as your eyes meet his.
“Try to sit still while I get you wrapped up, alright?” He laughs at your abrupt change in subject.
“Yes, love, whatever you need.” He leans in, gently pressing his lips to your forehead
“Is he gonna make it?” Henry asks, unbothered by your usual frantic chaos rushing through his living room, reading yesterday's paper in his recliner.
“Yessir, just a scratch,” IV responds with a chuckle.
“We're going to see what else they need help with; we’ll be back, " you explain before heading out of the house. You step onto the porch, pulling your jacket around you to try to shield yourself from the frigid wind. You squeal as IV effortlessly picks you up and tosses you over his shoulder.
“See? No trouble at all.” He teases before turning you into a more comfortable position, holding you close to his chest. By the time you had gotten back to the barn, Vessel and II had made quick work of chopping up the tree, the back of their truck filled with neatly sliced logs ready to be moved elsewhere.
“There you are! You were gone so long we thought she had to chop your damn hand off.” II chuckles.
“No, he got lucky this time.” You joke, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
“You mind going to check on III? Tell him we're just about done.” You nod, running off towards the other barn. Upon entering, you couldn't help but laugh, watching III attempt to calm the panicked sheep.
“I'm not trying to eat your flock; I'm just trying to help.” He attempts to bargain to stop the bleating.
“Want some company?” You ask with a smile.
“Please.” III chuckles in response.
“I'm surprised they don't like you; Henry’s sheep are usually very sweet.” You muse, patting the top of one of their fluffy heads as you pass.
“I tend to be rather scary to livestock animals… for one reason or another.” He responds vaguely.
“Well, Ves wanted me to tell you they're just about finished.” He slides to the ground with a sigh, patting the empty cushion of hay beside him.
“Good, that gives me a couple minutes to spend with you.” He responds in a flirty tone. You tumble down next to him, allowing him to pull you into his side. “How's your day going, baby?”
“Well, I'm spending it with you, so I can't complain.” You say with a smile.
Your heart raced as he leaned in closer to you. “Glad to hear it.” His gaze drops to your lips, slowly tracing your features before meeting your eyes again with an eye-crinkling smile. “Do you think, um– Do you think I could maybe steal you away for myself tonight..? Only if you want, of course.” The memory of III confessing how he just wants to get you alone bubbled up in the back of your mind, making your stomach flip.
“If you can manage to get me away from the others.” You joke with a giggle.
III releases a sound somewhere between a growl and a chuckle. “Oh, don't worry about that, pretty girl. I'll make sure everyone knows you'll be spending the night with me.”
“Alright, III, bring them back in!” You hear Vessel call from outside. He stands with a groan, offering you his hand to help you up.
“Alright, everyone, let's make this as painless as possible.” He calls over the hoard of bleating sheep. He was surprisingly efficient at the task, rounding up the entire flock into one solid group to lead them from one building to the other. You noticed how he quickly spotted anyone who fell out of line, nudging them back with his knee as he barked to keep moving.
You jump as Vessel places a hand on your waist, “I think that went well, don't you?”
“I think you're right.” You smile softly, leaning into him as you share your hushed conversation. “Thank you for giving Henry a chance; he's pretty much family.”
“I can't say no to you,” he breathes out a chuckle. You asked for my help, and I'll always be there to give it to you… and, I guess, Henry doesn't seem so bad.” He playfully nudges your shoulder.
“You boys hungry? The wife and I would like to make you some dinner to say thanks for helpin’ out.” Vessel looks to the others for a response.
“Well, you know I could always eat.” III chuckles with a shrug.
You hear II sigh, somewhat relieved, “Would either of you like help in the kitchen?”
“No, you've done more than enough. All of you.” Henry confidently walks up to Vessel with a look of determination. “After today, I can tell just how much bullshit those reporters are trying to fill everyone's head with. You're a good group; if you ever need anything, just let me know. Just make sure you take good care of my girl.”
Vessel smiled, genuinely shaking Henry's hand. “Thank you; I really appreciate that. And, trust me,” despite the mask covering his face, you could feel Vessel’s eyes shift to you. I plan to.”
You stood side by side with May, Henry’s wife, in the kitchen, helping her wash vegetables for dinner. “Those boys seem very sweet on you.” She gracefully dances around the subject. Your cheeks grow warm as you struggle to think of a way to explain your four boyfriends. “They're all very handsome; you'll have to come by and tell me about them sometime.” She whispers giddily.
“I’d love to; they're all amazing. I'm happy you finally get to meet them.” You jumped at the loud boom of laughter from the living room, smiling at the sound of the group.
“I think Henry likes them too.” She chuckles.
May insists she can finish up the cooking herself before sending you out into the commotion. You couldn't get over how lovely they all were, genuinely enjoying their time sitting in Henry’s cramped living room. The house was full of laughter, stories, and all the small things you missed about being at Henry's farm. The hours flew by, and before you knew it, you were comfortably tucked into the truck's cab, settling into III’s lap while Vessel drove towards their camp. III wraps his arms around your waist, chin settling against your shoulder. “How's my pretty girl?” He whispers.
“Good.” You reply with a pleased sigh. “Tired.” You follow up with a chuckle.
“Do you still want to spend the night?” A shiver runs down your spine at the feeling of his warm breath against the shell of your ear.
“Of course.”
“I DID freak out and you know it, but I had to keep it together somehow, you know”
“nah that’s true” she says between chewing her last bite.
“Like, I knew they’d be here in this area because of the concert” you start.
“but I would’ve never imagined that they come to our fucking workplace for coffee” you finish dramatically and slap your hands on your face.
“and the worst thing is” you exclaim and stand up abruptly “rikis hand touched mine”
“WHILE HE SMILED AT ME ALIJA”
Alija bursts out into laughter.
“I swear I fell in love even more” you sigh.
“I bet he’ll recognize you at the concert” she says as the supportive-equally-delusional best friend she is.
“He absolutely won’t” you answer
“Hyung do you remember the girl from the cafe this morning?” Ni-ki asks Jake, as they sit in Jakes hotel room and scroll through their phones.
Jake looks up from his phone and smirks.
“Yes of course”
Riki also looks up from his phone and sighs.
“I can't get her out of my head” he says and runs his free hand through his hair.
“I really wanna see her again, do you think she'll be at the concert?” he asks.
“I don't know, could be possible, she seemed a little nervous when we ordered” Jake chuckles.
“Can we go back tomorrow before the rehearsals?” Riki asks and looks at Jake, hoping he'll go back with him.
“yea I think that should fit” Jake answers him, still smirking.
“Why do you look at me like that?” Riki asks jokingly offended and throws his hands in the air.
Then suddenly he hears his phone go off.
After looking at his phone, Riki looks up to Jake who’s now holding in a laugh.
“I am really not” he whines “I- I just think she’s pretty you know”
Jake shakes his head and starts typing again.
After sending his last message, he walks over to Jake and jokingly threatens to kick him “I genuinely hate you” he says and lets himself fall onto the hotel bed.
“oh come on, there’s nothing bad about this”
Jake declares “Just give her your number tomorrow if you're so down bad already” he continues and shrugs his shoulders.
“No I cannot do that, what if it gets leaked or some shit like that” Riki groans while staring at the ceiling.
“True” Jake starts to speak while sitting down beside him, “but honestly, I guess it's a take it or it's probably gone forever kind of situation” he finishes his sentence.
“But isn't that problematic? What if she's a fan for real? Isn't that even-” Riki replies but get's cut off by Jake “fuck this problematic whatever stuff” he calls out “Nda's exist you know” he adds.
Riki hums.
“Just try and see where it goes, huh” he begins again. “Not everything has to ‘end’ negatively”
Riki nods and sits up. “I guess, yea” he answers while standing up.
“Then tomorrow 11 AM down in the lobby?” he asks before turning to leave the room.
“Sure, see you” he answers “and think about it” Jake exclaims before Riki leaves the hotel room, to go into his own.
His thoughts now running wild.
Should I do it and take the risk?
Would she even be interested?
What if it works out?
What if I'm in love for real?
Wait, does love at first sight exist?
He shakes his head, and rummages through his suitcase searching for the pajamas he packed, before changing and getting ready for bed.
But, he couldn't really sleep.
He turns from the left side, to the right side.
From his back to his stomach.
And again, from left to right.
From back to stomach.
But he couldn't get her out of his head.
