Are you a proshipper/do you support pedophilia at all. Asking out of paranoia
This is a wild question, and honestly one I’ve never gotten before or really expected to get. Thank you for asking though.
First: I don’t support pedophilia at all! Pedophilia and incest are big no no’s for me. They are both things that I, unfortunately, have seen the effects of first hand because of terrible things that have happened to friends and family, so no I do not fuck around with pedophilia!
Second: unpopular opinion but I really don’t consider myself a pro shipper or an anti shipper. It could just because I’ve been online (and on tumblr) for A LOT longer than either of those terms have been around, and honestly I only just found out what they meant this year! I get both sides, but I feel like both are kind of dumb to be honest. Like promoting and uplifting things like incest and pedophilia just because you like a ship but never considering the work/the author/ or the intent because you believe “fiction doesn’t effect reality” (it very much does btw that’s the point of fiction) is bad, but so is condemning people and art just because the very idea of a bad thing in a work makes you think the work is morally wrong while also not considering the intent/author/work.
I don’t know, I’m not as familiar with the terms so maybe I’m misrepresenting them, but as someone who is a big fan of literary and fictional analysis it hurts my heart to see people talk about fiction in these very black and white terms.
This is kind of long but Basically TLDR I do not support or condone pedophilia, and you will not ever find any pedophilic art or ships on my blog

Hazbin Hotel Ep1 Rewrite
Okay, let’s get the shit I like first out of the way. Animation? Beautiful. Art style? Iconic. Music? Pops off.
Okay, now the fun part…
First let me just say, I adore biblical lore. So when I see something changed from the og lore, where I think the og was more interesting, I cannot let it go.
(I’m gonna focus on the Charlie storyline in the episode)
1. The Backstory
Let’s start with the first scene, the backstory of Lucifer and Lilith. In the show, they got some of the timeline and motivations wrong. I understand that the story is sugar coated, but hear me out.
“Once upon a time, there was a dazzling kingdom protected by golden gates, known as Heaven. Home to beings of pure light. Angels that worshiped good and lived in peace and harmony under the rule of God. The most beautiful of the Angels was Lucifer. He was a dreamer, with fantastical ideas for all creation. But he was restricted by God and the elders of Heaven, for they felt his way of thinking was dangerous to the order of their world.
Outraged by this injustice, Lucifer gathered an army of Angels, and declared war on the kingdom of Heaven. The battle raged on for centuries, but in the end, Heaven reigned victorious. As punishment for their betrayal, Lucifer and his army were cast out of Heaven. Banished to a crumbling wasteland, where the light of God could not reach. But Lucifer would not wallow in failure. From the barren landscape he rose a beautiful golden palace, crowned himself king and crafted a plan to share his freedom with God’s newest creation. Humanity.”
(I like to imagine that when Lucifer and his army fell, their wings burned up, leaving scattered feathers everywhere. In order to fly to Eden, Lucifer gathered these burned feathers and turned them into a new pair of wings for himself. They were black, messy, and trailed billowing smoke, but they could fly.)
Now for the Lilith part of the story. The more popular interpretation of her is that she is the first wife of Adam, but there is another version too, one where she is Adam’s second Wife after Eve. I personally prefer the latter because I can’t see anyone sinning or getting cast out of Edan before Eve eats the apple.
“He approached the garden of Edan in disguise, and offered the forbidden fruit of knowledge to the mother of humanity, Eve, who gladly accepted. But with the gift of knowledge and freedom, came a terrible curse. Evil bleed into the earth, and humanity was infected by darkness and sin.
For her disobedience Eve was cast out of Edan, to the dismay of her love, Adam. To appease him, the Angels crafted him a new bride, Lilith. Lilith was beautiful, with a voice so enchanting even Lucifer was mesmerized, but she was strong willed and refused to be subservient to her new husband. She fled from the garden, and rather than chase her, Adam found the tree of knowledge and bit into the forbidden fruit, so he could follow his true love, and be with her once more.
Lilith wandered, lost and alone, until she was found by Lucifer. Enamored by her beauty and iron will, he gave her his heart and made her his queen.”
Then you have the bit about Lucifer becoming depressed while Lilith thrived in Hell. I hate this! I was looking forward to a demonic Mortica and Gomez, not another Stolas and Stella. Plus, I’ve never been a fan of uwu sad misunderstood Lucifer. He is a complex character, but too often he’s over simplified by people who read Paradise Lost in high school and misinterpreted Lucifer as a tragic anti hero who was treated unfairly by the evil Angels. Lucifer can be tragic, even sympathetic. He can be fun and a caring father. But don’t forget that he is king of Hell. He is the prince of pride. He has an ego the size of east Texas and waged war against God himself.
And let’s not forget that in the show he is the head honcho over a strict cast system that encourages violence, allows the worst of the worst to take power, and leaves the hellborn races at the bottom at a severe disadvantage.
In this rewrite, Lucifer and Lilith essentially switch places, except Lilith isn’t a pathetic push over, she’s an incredibly famous rockstar, who’s always busy and not around often, but still has a bigger role in her daughter’s life than her husband, who’s been mia doing king shit.
And the last thing we hear about in the intro monologue is that the exterminations happens to prevent Hell from rising against them, which while that may be the case, don’t have Charlie say it!!! That realization for her would make the entire hotel superfluous! Charlie has to think that the problem truly is overpopulation.
2. Meeting with Adam
Let’s start with Adam himself. I hate this character. Especially as an adaptation of Adam. Yes, Adam is misogynistic. He expected Lilith to be subservient to him, but he wouldn’t be the frat boy type of misogynist, he’d be the old school chivalrous type. Grandpa style sexism. And shouldn’t the father of humanity care about his descendants? It doesn’t make any sense for him to be an executioner. He should be the leader of the guardian Angels or something.
In this rewrite, Adam is not the leader of the executioners, instead it’s the Angel Dumah. Dumah is the angel over the wicked dead, and he was appointed by God to torment sinners in Hell.
I want him to be an actual intimidating antagonist. He rarely speaks (his name means “silence”) and has many eyes (is described as having a thousand eyes)
As for the exorcists, they are Angels, but not actual dead humans wearing mask. They just look like that. Dumah is described as having tens of thousands of Angels of Destruction at his disposal. That’s what the exorcists are going to be, but instead of thousands, I’ll give him five. They don’t speak and are hardly sentient. They stand on top of the tower like gargoyles, until they “come to life” for the execution.
“But it’s a comedy! Shouldn’t they be funny?” No. It’s all about how characters react to them. The Litch in Adventure Time is a good example of this.
So obviously the meeting goes a lot differently.
Charlie gets a call, looks at the number, and excitedly tells everyone to, “shooooosh!” She takes the call nervously, saying, “yeah! Okay! Yes! Of course! I’ll be right there! Thank you SOOO much!!!” She hangs up and happily tells Vaggie that Dumah requested a meeting with her. Vaggie is nervous and says she should probably go with her, but Charlie says that she’ll be fine and tells her to stay and work on the commercial. She leaves excited that the Angels may finally be taking her seriously.
She makes it to the clock tower’s board room, where Dumah sits silently at the end of the table. Charlie nervously starts to greet him before she realizes they’re not alone. The Angels, Gabriel and Uriel have come from Heaven, for a meeting with Hell’s princess.
Uriel remains professional, politely bowing her head as she greeted Charlie. Gabriel on the other hand, threw his arms out, happily yelling, “Charlotte!!!” He wrapped her in an uncomfortably tight and awkward hug, saying how much she’s grown since he last saw her. He’s like a chill but estranged uncle meeting his now adult niece who he hasn’t seen since she was a baby and has no memory of him whatsoever.
Uriel watches the whole thing in embarrassment. She tells Charlie that Dumah had contacted them, regarding some, “interesting,” ideas about the extermination.
Charlie starts with her pitch, but Gabriel insists that they should take some time to catch up first. He claps his hands and summons plates of food for everyone. When we cut back to them, Gabriel is in the middle of telling the story about almost getting his ass kicked by Joseph when he told him his virgin wife was pregnant.
Uriel cuts him off, saying she doesn’t need to hear this story for the eighth millionth time. She turns to Charlie, exasperated, and tells her to get on with the pitch.
Charlie says that she has a potential solution for the over population problem in Hell. Uriel, Gabriel, and Dumah look at her blankly. Gabriel asks, “overpopulation?”
Charlie goes on to explain that she knows overpopulation is a big problem, but 275 sinners were executed this year alone and she just can’t stand to watch her people be slaughtered anymore.
Uriel asks if she’s suggesting an alternative, and Charlie very excitedly pitches her idea for the hotel. Uriel and Gabriel wear a matching “wtf” face and look back and forth at eachother like, “does this girl know what she’s suggesting?”
As Charlie is finishing, Uriel is visibly annoyed. She interrupts Charlie, complaining that this is ridiculous and has all been a massive waste of time as she stands up to leave. Charlie tries to stop her, saying, “please, you don’t understand.”
Uriel snaps back, “no, you don’t understand! They had their chance in life and they earned damnation.”
Charlie responds, “you're wrong. Sinners made mistakes, sure, but everyone makes mistakes.”
Uriel pinches the bridge of her nose (or where a nose would be on a person) “a mistake happens once. It’s an accident, an error in judgment due to naivety. Of course mistakes can be forgiven, but we’re not talking about mistakes, are we? These sinners had a choice, and they chose to live in sin.”
“A choice they now regret!” Charlie defends.
“It takes a lot more than regret to be forgiven.” Uriel says coldly. “It takes remorse.”
Gabriel chimes in, “she has a point, Charlie. It’s easy to make someone regret their actions, but to have them feel true selfless remorse, that is much more difficult.”
Charlie furrows her brow and starts to look defeated.
“But perhaps not impossible.”
Charlie beams with excitement. Gabriel explains that this is a big decision, too big to be made right now, but if she can successfully redeem one demon, they will allow her to come to heaven and pitch her idea to the entire Angelic court. Uriel tries to argue, but Gabriel just says they’ll discuss it later. Charlie gives him a tight hug before he and Uriel disappear.
As she turns to leave, Dumah puts his hand on her shoulder. This is the first time he’s moved in the entire scene. He stares at her coldly and says, “the only reason you’re here is your father has spared you from the executioner’s blade. If I had my way. Each and every one of you would be slaughtered.”
Charlie stares up at him. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
For context, part of the reason Gabriel and Uriel were initially confused by Charlie’s proposal is because they know that Lucifer is trying to keep Hell’s population as high as possible, in preparation for the second war with heaven. That’s why he and the other princes of hell work to manipulate humanity and temp them towards sin (i.e. succubi and incubi). That’s why he arranges marriages between powerful demons to make powerful demon children (i.e. Stolas and Stella). He needs as many demons possible for his army if he’s gonna have a chance at winning. So obviously, sending sinners to heaven, aka the opposing force, is the LAST thing Lucifer would want.

there is like one extremely well-written post about [cof fictional character with no impact on real life whatsoever cof] aldo maria bellini being misunderstood, a post written by a great mutual around 2 months ago. legit cannot think of another one, not even mine, certainly not in the last month. if we're going there, could name at least 3 instances of bellini being misunderstood, including the simony-cover-up mental gymnastics, ever since I created this account in december 2024. like seriously what's up with this hateful obsession? what even counts as a "bellini is misunderstood" post btw? does my pfp count or? if I post a tiktok of tucci is that it? "😮 oh no look out the bellini thought police is coming 😮😣"? frankly, mr shankly. colour me unbothered.
filter the tag, print a photo of him and ruin it with a red crayon I suppose? make a fire, print a word doc with his name (since his 'image' is stanley tucci and that would be unethical) and burn it? like. shooting ideas ironically here but not endorsing them because. seriously? is this kindergarten?
[great art of bellini by the wonderful artists in this fandom reblogged] no one whatsoever: "ugh why aren't they drawing him specifically for me to hate on him, this is so 'bellini is misunderstood' coded".
I don't follow the account where I saw this anon posted, I'm writing this without believing I have to say it but I'm saying it on behalf of people who might follow me and have seen the same anon and then before reblogging a gifset or gorgeous art involving bellini will have this orwellian thought of "wait am I going against the bellini thought police? 😣😰 will the bellini thought police think I'm enjoying him too much? 😮🤒". I mean, your honour, come on. leave the repression to the cardinals 🎀
why is this even an ongoing thing, I don't know and I don't care, a fandom is meant to be a fun hobby, these are all fictional characters, we're just a bunch of queer people on tumblr enjoying ourselves and sharing memes and being nerds about a few things yada yada. I'm also feeling bratty so there you go: aldo maria bellini is a fictional character created by robert harris who is sometimes misinterpreted due to lack of media literacy 🥰 thank you for reminding me 🥰

to start with your first point: yes, condemning something is still a form of shaming, esp in fan spaces. you might not have called anyone out by name, but it's preeeeetty easy to know who you're speaking on. esp as an avid rafe reader, ik who you're referring to. i assume most people do as well. it's not hard to gather context clues. now zya. taking one look at your account makes me see quickly you are NOT a micro creator on tumblr.
you seem to have been around for a while and your following is no joke. that means you are influential. that means people will rush to agree with you. that spreads. now, especially since you're kinda trying to make "lets hate on incel/sexist rafe" a thing, people who write incel/sexist rafe feel called out, even if you're not tagging them directly.
you keep circling back to the idea of "consequences" and accountability, and yeah, no one is saying dark fic can't be criticized. what i'm saying is that criticism becomes unproductive when it demands one rigid framework, especially in a space known for being creatively free.
sometimes, people want to write from the point of view of someone who sees rafe through rose-colored glasses. sometimes people want to see the rafe depicted in the show and focus on one of his bad traits. that's not immoral.
now. for your point about influence and teens stumbling into content, most dark fic writers already use tags n mature warnings and make it very clear this is a dead dove, esp the people u were hinting at being dissatisfied with. but we also can't control what people ignore or how they interpret art. and even if ALL the sexist rafe fics disappeared, theres soo much other media glorifying it that people will use as a substitute.
ALSO. you saying that fiction can have an impact on people doesn't contradict the idea that fiction and real life are separate things. both can be true. fiction isn't real, but it can still kinda impact people depending on their mindset ooooooooor their level of media literacy. that's not me going back on anything like ya said,bc same as how I SAID video games don't cause violence cause obvi its not real, it can be misinterpreted by unstable individuals. the issue is with how individuals receive content, not the inherent existence of the content itself.
what i said was: fiction is fiction. people know that, especially adults. tumblr is mostly adults. it's not a blueprint for how to live. but yes, like any media, it can influence certain people, and that doesn't mean we shut it all down or expect every creator to moralize every narrative for fear of being misunderstood. that's censorship.
fanfic is not curriculum. it's not built to parent children. if teens are in spaces meant for adults and reading adult content, that's a larger issue
you keep circling back to "i never said they can't write it, i just want accountability." and that's fine girly pop, you're allowed to want that. but accountability doesn't mean forcing people to write characters or narratives through your moral lens. it means giving people room to disagree with your take without being painted as apologists or harmful creators. when you say things like "if you felt shamed, that's because you already felt guilty," that's not a fair argument. it shuts down discussion by implying im reacting defensively bc im in the wrong.
there is no way to ensure all readers get the "message," esp if they don't want to. but being the fanfic police n saying no to nuance and subtext to preempt every possible misinterpretation is impossible.
now, especially since you're kinda trying to make "lets hate on incel/sexist rafe" a thing, people who write incel/sexist rafe feel called out, even if you're not tagging them directly.
so the other option is to just not say anything?
you keep circling back to the idea of "consequences" and accountability, and yeah, no one is saying dark fic can't be criticized. what i'm saying is that criticism becomes unproductive when it demands one rigid framework, especially in a space known for being creatively free.
that's fair.
sometimes, people want to write from the point of view of someone who sees rafe through rose-colored glasses. sometimes people want to see the rafe depicted in the show and focus on one of his bad traits. that's not immoral.
that's also fair.
for your point about influence and teens stumbling into content, most dark fic writers already use tags n mature warnings and make it very clear this is a dead dove, esp the people u were hinting at being dissatisfied with. but we also can't control what people ignore or how they interpret art. and even if ALL the sexist rafe fics disappeared, theres soo much other media glorifying it that people will use as a substitute.
you're right.
you saying that fiction can have an impact on people doesn't contradict the idea that fiction and real life are separate things. both can be true. fiction isn't real, but it can still kinda impact people depending on their mindset ooooooooor their level of media literacy.
very true.
but yes, like any media, it can influence certain people, and that doesn't mean we shut it all down or expect every creator to moralize every narrative for fear of being misunderstood. that's censorship.
okay fair.
fanfic is not curriculum. it's not built to parent children. if teens are in spaces meant for adults and reading adult content, that's a larger issue
you're right. i apologize for bringing the teens into the argument; that was unnecessary.
you keep circling back to "i never said they can't write it, i just want accountability." and that's fine girly pop, you're allowed to want that. but accountability doesn't mean forcing people to write characters or narratives through your moral lens. it means giving people room to disagree with your take without being painted as apologists or harmful creators.
if this is the end-all conclusion, i have nothing else to add. i agree with all your takes. you're being fair about the writing ethics of everything.
when you say things like "if you felt shamed, that's because you already felt guilty," that's not a fair argument. it shuts down discussion by implying im reacting defensively bc im in the wrong.
my interpretation is if you're fine with writing your content, why do you need to justify to me—a stranger—about it. if you feel some deep response to my callout, isn't that a responsibility for you to navigate?
there is no way to ensure all readers get the "message," esp if they don't want to. but being the fanfic police n saying no to nuance and subtext to preempt every possible misinterpretation is impossible.
okay. i never intended to be the fanfic police. i don't want to be. i agree with your takes. i just don't like it. and that's point-blank-period.

Alastor's Leash
Chapter 3
Zariah was being princess carried by Alastor, pouting like an upset child with her arms crossed over her chest.
“Now, what did you say to set off Mimzy? I've never seen her get that angry without good reason. If not for our deal, I'd be more than half tempted to pretend I didn't notice and let you two fight it out.”
Zariah huffed out a fox whine. “She called you heartless! And I argued you had the biggest heart I've ever met, and made me feel loved everyday. I don't understand how or why she sees you as so ‘heartless’ specifically, but she got really pissed off, and then I used us cuddling in my bed as an example and she launched herself at me! Like, who reacts like that?!”
“Sinners, my dear. That's who.” He groaned, now understanding the situation she'd gotten into.
“The exact reason is, back when we were alive, she and I would party together. Early on in our friendship, she'd tried to make sexual advances, which I always turned down. And then, when she stated she'd fallen in love with me one day, and I still did not reciprocate, she called me heartless. Our relationship took a nosedive for a bit until she caught me hiding a body. It certainly improved after that, as she realized it wasn't ‘her’, I just had no interest in women in general. My work was just too important to me. So, your comment about us cuddling in bed , she might have misunderstood or more likely chose to misinterpret, as sex. So, now she feels insulted. And to be fair, she's not wrong about me being heartless, I am incapable of the type of love she always wanted from me.”

“Oh, well I didn't mean to hurt her… but you're not heartless, I can hear it beating right now.” She rest her head on his chest. “Bum bum, bum bum. Yep, it's still there. Just because you love differently, doesn't mean you don't love in your own way.” She smiled sweetly, and he returned the gesture, eyes half lidded.

“Such a wise pet I have.”

“Oh, idea! Charlie was able to visit heaven once with Lucifer's help right? Maybe we can get you a day pass to see our moms!”
Alastor groaned and set her on her feet, “I take back what I said about you being wise. That's the worst idea I've ever heard. Heaven is no place for a demon like me.”

“But why not? Especially if it's just for a day. She'd love it!” Zariah looked confused. She couldn't understand why heaven scared him so much.

“Zariah, we're dropping it there.” His tone was stern, “No more discussion of getting me to heaven, I'm quite happy here in hell, where I belong .” He paused to let his words sink in before continuing, “Now, we need to get ready for your broadcast. What are you going to read for our listeners today?”

“Hm… I'm thinking of hooking everyone in with one of my favorite book series. After book one, if they want the other books, they'll have to give me their souls to hear the rest! Does that sound like a plan that might work?”

He hummed, “Make it book 2 and I think it might.” He pet her head and she purred, wrapping one of her tails around his waist.

_______

Vox paced around his tower while Velvette worked on their social media posts for the day, scheduling a few for later.
“Argh! Fuck! I miss Val!” He yelled.
“Oh get over it you big baby! You two fought more than you fucked anyways!” She was being cold, because he needed it. Suddenly an alarm went off, letting Vox know a radio broadcast was about to begin.
“Oh fuck! Alastor's back on!” He ran to the radio to listen to his “hated rival's” broadcast. It was all he could think about these days.

“Hello sinners! It's time for our newest, and most popular weekly broadcast, the Radio Angel's story hour. Everyone get tucked in with your snacks and blankets, I've been told this one is a personal favorite of hers. How exciting!”
Vox growled, that damn angel had taken up all of Alastor's attention lately! He'd even given her credit for his latest attack on Vox's dignity!

“That's right Al! As our listeners will soon discover, the main character has a lot of parallels with Lucifer that are very exciting! And if they can make it to act four, they're in for a world of emotional pain and torment unlike anything they've ever felt. I will also change a few of the terms to make it easier for our listeners to understand the story.”
“Well isn't that exciting, and so generous. Let's get started then….”

“Among all the angels in heaven, there was one famous laughingstock of the three realms…”

Vox listened intently, her voice truly was suited for this sort of thing. She didn't sound like her usual energetic obnoxious self that he'd heard from the few interactions he'd had with her. It was soothing and calm when she read. He was jealous to the extreme! She was going to get so many followers from this shit!

After a bit, Alastor's voice cut back in, interrupting her with his own commentary on the story.
“Hah! What a fool he is, quite like our king indeed. Challenging heaven itself over a single child's life. I'm quite interested to see the pain and suffering of such a kind heart as he will go through.” He sounded so pleased with himself, and she couldn't help but giggle.
“Hey now! No spoilers!”
Once she finished reading the Prolog, Alastor put on a “commercial break”, to give her time to breath, collect herself, and drink water.

“Oh my god! This was so much more fun than I thought it'd be! It reminds me of when I was alive and I'd read to my friends over the headsets at work. Hah… that job was a literal nightmare worse than hell itself, but my coworkers made it worth every moment. I loved them all so much.” She smiled fondly with her eyes shut, picturing her old friends.

“After this, I want to help with Becca's wedding. You should too. She's like a sister to me, so that will make Luci your brother soon. So try to get along a little, yeah? No more plotting to kill him and take the throne of hell. It's Charlie's to own.” She kept her tone soft.
He whined a little, like a child. “But darling~.” He gave her a sweet, syrupy look.
“Nooo! Don't even, it won't work. You're cute, and I love you, but the throne of hell is a headache you don't need. Just trust me…”

GUTS ch. 3 - Vampire
Tumblr media
setting: midsummers
summary: Kiara’s in self-sabotage mode and taking everyone down with her. At least, that’s how she feels. Not to give in to the cliché but she’s feeling misunderstood. By her friends, by her parents, by JJ. And it all comes to a head at Midsummers.
A/N: One of the things I love the most (and hate the most) about Kiara’s character is how open-ended she is. There is so much potential there for who she actually is outside of the way John B portrays her. I think she is constantly misinterpreted by her friends and trapped in their perceptions of who they want her to be. I think, more than anything, I want this fic to explore a different piece of Kiara.

"Well if it isn't my favorite kook," Rafe's voice greeted her just as he slipped his arm over her shoulder. The kiss he planted on the side of her head, at the edge of her hairline, was much sweeter than she expected. Almost fond.
Almost worthy of making her feel guilty for shrugging his arm off and placing an appropriate distance between them (though she was sure any one of her friends would consider ten feet a much more appropriate distance). "Rafe."
"Ooof," he placed a hand on his heart as if she'd stabbed him through it, "what's with the ice Kie?"
"I'm not being icy...I just..." She looked out over the lawn, most of the guests mingling at makeshift bar-tables. A few dancing already. "JJ's working tonight."
"Right, right...forgot you guys were still, ya know," Rafe took a sip of his drink, watching her over the rim much like he had the first night they'd bumped into each other at App State.
"I don't really think we are," Kiara admitted, "it's been weird honestly and we haven't hung out like...alone...since I got back."
"God, I feel like I should be charging you for all these therapy sessions."
"Are they therapy sessions when they end with your dick-"
"Whoa Kie," Rafe laughed, "I think Mr. Wright's hearing aid is still on, you gonna taint his old ears with that language?"
"Oh please, that guy is the biggest perv I've ever met!" Kiara replied, "one time he invited me inside to wait for a tip when I delivered to him."
Rafe looked back over his shoulder where the much older man, white haired and pushing 90, was standing with his much younger 4th wife. He glanced back at Kiara with a smirk on his face, "did you go in?"
"Ew, god no!" Kiara huffed.
She took a sip of her own drink, an aperol that the bartender had listened to her explain how to make and was a little heavy on the Prosecco. She'd been keeping her eyes trained on JJ weaving his way through the crowd, taking and replacing drinks for other midsummer party-goers. Pope was there too, standing down by his father at the grill and helping hand out food. She didn't know where Sarah and John B had gotten to but she'd been standing here looking out of place and maybe a little miserable since she'd arrived.
As much as she hated to acknowledge it and as much as she knew it shouldn't be true, Rafe's mere presence had put a smile on her face. Unsurprisingly, he looked amazing in his suit. Enough that she was wishing JJ and Pope weren't around so she could have let him keep his arm around her shoulders.
Kiara could add this to the running list of scenarios she'd already worked out in her head. All the ways she wished that her relationship with Rafe could be different. There were so many gaps that she wanted to fill. If she could let them, if he wanted it, she knew they'd fit better than she had with anyone else.
"You wanna cut out?" Rafe asked, downing the rest of his drink and placing on someone's tray as they passed. Not JJ, thankfully.
"What?"
"Do you want to leave?" Rafe clarified, "with me?" he tacked on.
Kiara looked toward the double doors that led inside, catching sight of Sarah and John B as they re-entered the party. She didn't let her gaze stray in case Sarah could somehow sense the eyes on her and would catch Kiara standing five feet away near the bar with Rafe. She felt like she was going to get caught somehow, like she was rendezvousing with the enemy and once she was found out, she was going to be ex-communicated from the island.
"I don't think that would be a good idea," Kiara replied. She downed the rest of her own drink but kept biting at the stirrer. Down the lawn, where the crowd thinned out, she could see JJ nodding enthusiastically at a drunk older woman that was tucking a tip into his vest pocket.
"I'm not gonna grab your hand and walk out of here like we're hard launching Kie, I'm just saying...you leave and then I'll leave and then if you find yourself in the parking lot without a ride, I did drive here," Rafe replied.
She bit her lip, putting her drink on a tray as a server passed her by. Sarah had been stopped by Topper and Kiara knew this was her chance. She could slip out and no one would be wiser until tomorrow. And tomorrow she knew they would give her hell for bailing on all of them. But right now, "okay."
"Okay," he nodded. Then he turned away and walked to the bar to order one last drink before he followed her out. Kiara didn't go through the double doors, afraid of running into John B or Sarah or anyone else for that matter. She headed around the side of the patio to the other entrance that some of the servers were using.
By the time she made it outside and across the parking lot to Rafe's Bronco, he was already sitting in the driver's seat, window down and watching her with that same amused smirk he always wore. She couldn't help smiling and letting her mind run away, imagining that this wasn't midsummers and that maybe they were back at App State and he was taking her on a date.
He leaned across to the passenger side and opened the door for her, pushing it at the same time that she pulled. As she slid into the seat he sat up, eyes on the quick glimpse of her legs as she hiked her dress up to avoid getting it caught underneath her.
"How'd you get out here so fast?" She asked, leaning back against the seat as Rafe backed out of his spot. The headlights illuminated the reserved sign, Ward's name etched there to signify his importance at the club.
"Please, I know every exit and entrance. Plus, I don't give a shit if my sister sees me leave," Rafe replied.
"Lucky you," Kiara sighed. "So, where are we going exactly?"
She figured he'd just drive them back to Tanny Hill, especially since no one else would be there and they could sneak up to Rafe's room without any interruptions. But he was driving in the opposite direction, toward the center of the island.
"I'm going over the bridge," he replied, "figured that what you actually need is a break from this shit."
"I thought I wasn't getting anymore free therapy sessions."
Rafe laughed, "You can pay me back. Now what's bugging you?"
"You want to hear me complain about my friends for the rest of the night? That's why you left Midsummers?"
"I left Midsummers because you were having a shitty time and you needed to get away," Rafe replied, "so what's bugging you? Because if you were chill with Sarah and the pogues you would have never left. You wouldn't have even let me say hi."
Kiara was ready to agree, because she knew Rafe was right, when her phone rang. She jumped at the sudden and obtrustive sound of "Can't Fight the Moonlight" (a riingtone that Rafe had set on her phone when they were both drunk because he thought it was 'fucking hilarious' how much she hated the song) started blaring in her bag.
The screen was lit up with a picture of JJ holding a massive fish and grinning adorably at the camera, his name running along the top, letting her know he was trying to facetime her.
"Pull over?" She asked, not bothering to look up at Rafe as he swerved onto the shoulder. She hoped out of the car and angled the camera so it looked like she was just outside, alone, somewhere on Figure Eight. The type of omitting the truth shit she used to pull in highschool with her parents. "Hey," she tried to sound casual as she looked at the camera, JJ's face appearing on the screen, Pope just behind him.
"Kie, where are you? Sarah said she saw you leave?"
"What? She saw me?" Kiara asked, her heart rising to her throat. She was tempted to throw in a 'what exactly did Sarah say that she saw' but that sounded suspicious.
Rafe rolled the window down and she looked passed the phone to where he was leaning on the middle console, watching her. She mouthed angled her phone so JJ couldn't see her and mouthed 'pogues'.
"Yeah, where are you?"
At the same time that he asked her phone buzzed with a text and the banner at the top of the screen read (Sarah Cameron: Where r u? did I see u leave w Rafe?)
"I was just tired...I don't know I didn't really feel like hanging out with a bunch of stuck up kooks all night."
"Heard!" Pope shouted from the background and Kiara smiled for the first time since she answered the phone. She didn't answer Sarah.
"Well where are you? Pope and I are ditching, figured we'd grab boards and night surf if you're up for it?"
"I uh..." Kiara hesitated, looking over the camera of her phone to where Rafe sat in the driver's seat, still watching her, "yeah, I'm almost home. I'll meet you guys."
JJ got out a quick okay before he signed off and Kiara felt her shoulders dip as her whole body relaxed. Lying to her friends was never her strong suit and lying to them about where she was and who was with felt a little too highstakes.
"Let me guess," Rafe said as she climbed back in the SUV, "I'm turning around and driving you back home."
"JJ wants to night surf."
Rafe rolled his eyes, turning back to face the road as he put the car in drive, "well, if JJ wants to night surf."
"What am I supposed to say Rafe?"
"I don't know, that your fucking busy right now and can't drop everything to go be the doting girlfriend for him," Rafe bit out, clearly pissed.
"Oh sure, let me just call him back and tell him that I'm hanging out with you. It's bad enough that Sarah saw us together!"
"Bad enough?" He parroted, "shit Kie, nice to know you think so highly of me."
Kiara bit down on her bottom lip as if she could physically stop the words bubbling up in her chest. Finally she said, "just take me home."
"Gladly."
She wanted to scream at him for acting like she was the bad guy for making him turn around and take her back home. She kept reminding herself that this wasn't serious and whatever went on between them at school, they had a strict policy: it didn't spill over to the OBX. He was the one who broke that by texting her and coming over to say hi at midsummers, not her. He was the one who broke it by asking her to leave midsummers with him and then driving toward the bridge as if he was taking her on a date, not her.
This wasn't App State, he couldn't just hang around her dorm or go to the cafe with her. If they grabbed dinner, if they talked, if they so much as looked at each other someone somewhere would know and they would tell her friends and then everyone would find out that she was sleeping with Rafe Cameron. But that's all they were, college fuckbuddies. No strings attached. No feelings, no drama, no emotion. So why did she feel like shit?
"What are you doing?" She asked when he drove passed her driveway and cut his headlights.
"Pope's car's out front," he shrugged, pulling into a dark driveway two houses down. The Freemans' were still at midsummers. "Figured you wouldn't want them to see me dropping you off."
"Yeah." Kiara pushed the door open and climbed out, grabbing her heels from the floor of the passenger seat where she'd left them. "Look, Rafe-"
"Its whatever Kie, it doesn't matter."
She shut the door, taking a step back and watching him back out of the Freemans'. He drove back the way he'd come, headlights still off and she waited until she was sure he'd have passed her house before she started walking across the yards. Pope and JJ were sitting on the porch steps, illuminated by the light glowing overhead. Her dad's car was gone, they were still at midsummers. Maybe they didn't even know she was gone yet. Or they did and they were just glad that College Kiara didn't make a scene when she cut out early the way High School Kiara always did.
"Finally, what did you fucking walk all the way here from the club?" JJ called as she approached him. He stood up and walked down the rest of the steps, stopping in front of her to pull her into a hug.
"I drove with my parents Jay, how else was I supposed to get home," she lied, pulling away, "I didn't know you guys were gonna cut out or I would have hitched a ride with you."
"I wasn't exactly planning on cutting out," Pope replied as she walked passed him up the steps. Both of them followed her, entering the dark living room and JJ heading straight for the fridge. "Old habits die hard," Pope teased.
"What, I'm starving!" JJ protested, already pulling some leftovers out.
"Don't eat the whhole fridge JJ, I'll be right back."
Kiara ran up the steps two at a time, getting into her bedroom at the end of the hall and shutting the door. Her bathing suit was hanging on the knob of her closet door from where she left it the day before and she changed quickly, trying not to think too much about the way Rafe had looked when she told him to take her home. Like she was cheating on him and not JJ, like he was the one she was hurting. Her phone pinged again and she flipped it over, having thrown it on the bed when she first walked in her room. Another text from Sarah and some that she missed.
Sarah Cameron: wtf Kie????
Sarah Cameron: wtf r u doing w my bro??
Sarah Cameron: I saw him talking to u...
Sarah Cameron: Kie??
Kiara picked up her phone and typed out a quick "we'll talk later" and then silenced her phone, leaving it on the bed in case Sarah decided to keep texting her. She pulled on one of JJ's old shirts that he'd left lying around and some shorts, heading downstairs.
"Alright, I'm ready...now that you've decimated the fridge," she joked, plastering a smile on her face as JJ rolled his eyes at the jab.
"Yeah, yeah, lets go."
"I said I was ready," Kiara laughed, following JJ and Pope to the door. Pope went ahead to the car while Kiara locked the front door again, JJ waiting with her.
"Hey, I know last time was a little rocky," he mentioned, leaning against the banister as he waited.
"Its just a learning curve," Kiara shrugged it off, trying to sound nonchalant.
"I get it Kie, people grow and ya know, grow apart."
"We haven't grown apart JJ," she insisted, "we're fine."
"Okay," he nodded.
As she turned away from the door she grabbed his hand and squeezed it, offering him a smile. "We're good." She repeated, more for her own sake than for JJ's though she was fairly positive that neither of them believed her.

Okay. I’m sorry I misunderstood your post. I’ve followed you for around three months now and usually agree with what you say and when I do not agree I just keep my mouth shut. This is the first time I even addressed anything you said as it spoke to me directly I guess. I was under the impression you were saying that trauma is something you don’t overcome and always impacts you (like me being a quiet person or a nice person or anything is only because of my trauma despite me being quiet before I ever went through it aka you saying Levi is only stoic for his trauma when we have no idea if maybe he was just born like that.) So I am sorry if I misinterpreted it. Maybe I am stupid which I’m sure people are saying, I can’t always comprehend analysis posts as even though I speak English pretty fluently it’s not the language I grew up with, and sometimes struggle understanding what someone says so it kinda sucks I’m being made out to “always want to be a victim” for misinterpreting something online. I think my point was that despite my trauma I am well adjusted. Sometimes I don’t want to talk about it, have it brought up when speaking of who I am today so it sucks I guess seeing people act like trauma is the only thing about people who’ve had traumatic childhoods. Not that it’s what you were doing but just a different perspective. I hate being compared so much to my trauma because I overcame it and that shouldn’t be a bad thing that I don’t want it to constantly be brought up I guess.
I don’t know I am of course just talking nonsense now I do apologize. Again sorry that I misinterpreted your post.
No worries, and I understand. I definitely wasn’t at all saying people who have been traumatized can’t overcome it or move beyond it. My post really was in response to another that was claiming that being strong in the face of traumatizing events means that you haven’t been traumatized, which I thought was absurd. You can still be strong but also be traumatized. Levi to me is a perfect example of that. That’s all I was saying. One can acknowledge that their trauma affects them without also letting it dictate who they are. That’s what makes someone strong. That in spite of what they’ve been through, and the ways it still impacts them, they remain kind and caring, etc… You can be well-adjusted and also be traumatized, which is what I was saying, but which the post I was responding to was trying to claim otherwise. I think Levi is well-adjusted, but also clearly traumatized, and that his being well-adjusted has nothing to do with him being abused, but simply with his strength of character. He lives with trauma, but he is also a strong and reliable person, and despite being traumatized, he remains extremely level-headed. It wasn’t his trauma that made him that way. He didn’t need to be traumatized in order to be strong and reliable. That’s just who Levi is.
As for Levi’s stoicism, again, I say his repression of the obvious emotional turmoil he goes through in certain situations reads clearly to me as a coping mechanism, because it isn’t reflective of what he’s actually feeling. I think Levi is naturally a very reserved person and not prone to emotionality. I think he was always going to be withdrawn and quiet no matter what, and not given to flighty or erratic responses. But it also seems clear to me that he actively represses his emotions in order to cope with the pain of losing people he cares about, etc… we see that play out in real time in the series. I’m not saying Levi would naturally be a super, outwardly emotional person if it weren’t for his trauma. I’m just saying that the extremity of Levi’s flat expression is unnatural, even for a naturally reserved person like him, and that seems like a clear sign of being a trauma response. And I resent anyone who tries to claim that Levi being affected by his trauma makes him weak, or that suggesting Levi is negatively affected by the awful things he’s been through is akin to somehow suggesting he’s weak. It’s the opposite. Levi being affected by his trauma, but still remaining as kind and compassionate as he is, only proves what a strong person he is. He carries his trauma, it impacts him, but it doesn’t dictate who he is.

Hi, can I just give a word of warning. It's not about wanting feedback etc that's completely valid. It's just the HoTD is extremely toxic in parts and you don't want to fall into the trap of wanting to be top dog or breaking into the fandom. There is a huge appetite for fic and a massive turnover of stories every day so you're just one of thousands. You'll find an audience. But please don't use words like breaking into the fandom implying seeking top position. I'm sorry if I'm misinterpreted you but there is a hierarchy in some quarters where people have huge followings and act like complete cunts causing huge drama. It was all rooted in breaking into the fandom, being the elite and getting numbers for fic. One openly said it was about winning the fandom, exact words. It created rivalry etc. There is new writers coming up wanting to emulate them and it's not about writing an idea they love and sharing it and wanting feedback and appreciation, its about gaining numbers and followers and kudos. They will just churn out shit for clicks and use AI more often or not. It's not like this everywhere but it's still a dangerous trap to fall into. Don't worry about breaking into the fandom or getting exposure. There is so much content it's overwhelming and just swallows stories up. But it evens out. You are talented and passionate about your characters and this is what you need to keep in mind most of all. You can have a healthy desire for an audience and feedback just don't be sucked into the trap of competition on here
I'm sorry for ranting I'm tired from work and was just browsing the tag and my blood run cold at seeing you wanted to break in. Maybe I'm overthinking it due to being tired but I just hate to see someone else become consumed by this craze to be the top on here when it's just literally fandom. Its not TikTok or the hunger games
Hi there, Anon.
I think you misunderstood my post. I put the "break in" in quotes because I wasn't being serious, like it was a tongue-in-cheek post. Writing and posting fic for an already established fandom is hard, no matter what, and I've only been part of the fandom for about a week. It's a massive and incredibly active fandom, so I'm just trying to find my feet and my place within it, so I don't know of any drama and I'm certainly not trying to be popular. If I cared that much about numbers, I would have stopped posting stories years and years ago. This is not my first rodeo.
All that being said, I know your heart was in the right place and I appreciate you wanted to warn me, though it was unnecessary. I'm a big girl, and as you said, it's fandom. It's not that deep.

8, 17, anddddd 43 for the boys Raphael and Lionel
8. How loose is their use of the phrase ‘I love you’?
Raphael: I actually think he's pretty guarded with it. Raphael falls in love fast and very very often, but I think he's scared about saying that love OUT LOUD bc he's scared of it being hurt by it again and again. He will respond to an "I love you" with an "I love you too" but I think it's pretty hard for him to initiate it.
Lionel: see i just don't know with this dude bc his only relationship before Raphael was with Ericka when he still thought he was a cisgirl lesbian. He would say I love you to Ericka, but it was always weird and wrapped up with dysphoria and feeling like he HAD to be attracted to women (it was more he just hated the idea of dating a man AS a woman and not exactly that he was attracted to women). So I think he would have to figure out his own feelings on it while in a relationship with Raphael.
17. What do they notice first in the mirror versus what most people first notice looking at them?
Raphael: for himself, he notices his human eye, even if he's covering it with his hair. He knows it's there and it bothers him. For others, I would say probably his hair or his freckles are the first thing.
Lionel: for himself, His facial hair. It's a gender euphoria thing but he loves looking at it and scratching at it. He looks like he finally wants to look! For others, probably the scar over his eye honestly. It's fairly large and he doesn't like talking about it.
43. What do they commonly misinterpret because of their own upbringing / environment / biases? How do they respond when realizing the misunderstanding?
Raphael: Raphael grew up in hell and has only been able to go to the surface for ??? maybe a year maximum, so he has had to get used to human traditions in some regards and how humans run things, though it's not as often as you would think. He for one misunderstood that while humans have monarchies, The Church is the supreme power of the land. He usually just tries to act like a dope whenever he messes something up bc he IS trying to pretend to be a human. And a normal everyday human would know about stuff likethis!!!
Lionel: dude grew up in a cult/gang and did a whole bunch of horrible stuff before the age of 20 so he doesn't totally understand how to act like a normal member of society. In particular, it was hard for him to accept The Sun God's ways given how he grew up. When he first was forced to join the order, he would react in anger at any misunderstanding, which would force him to be punished. Nowadays, he primarily just bows his head, apologizes, and goes along with it. much easier than doing anything else.

Can I rant for a minute about something non-royal related? I’m so disgusted by the behaviour of the RFU. I don’t know if any of you have been keeping up with rugby matters, but one of the England players alleged that a South African player was racist towards him during last week’s match. Videos of around the time of the alleged incident have been making the rounds, and what appears to have happened is during open play(!!!), an SA players shouts something in Afrikaans to his teammates which happens to sound a lot like an English swearword (which is not widely used in SA). Now people have been questioning whether this player can even speak Afrikaans (as he is black), which I don’t even want to go into the implications of that, but of course he can, as do most of the SA team to some level! World Rugby have had an independent review of the incident, and said there is insufficient evidence to lay any charges. Now the RFU puts out a statement condemning the (alleged) act, outright calling it racial abuse, saying they are angry that no “independent panel” will review it further (even though the panel that sought evidence was itself independent), and especially without clear-cut evidence still insist on calling the player a racist!! This while in the videos it seems very likely the situation was just misunderstood from a different language. I’m so disappointed. I must note that the England player was right in bringing the issue to the ref - if anyone feels they have been racially discriminated against they should - and I am absolutely against the online abuse that has come his way following the incident, but the SA player has had his reputation tarnished (especially by the English media) and it is serious allegations, and their take is just not it. The whole situation has had many people in SA (very randomly) say they can see why Harry and Meghan left because of the press. And although it has absolutely nothing to do with Catherine, as she represents the RFU, I do worry about the implications of her visibly supporting the RFU right now, so I hope she does not attend tonight’s match (I feel like she might be an easy target for some upset fans🙄). All that aside, I’m on Bongi’s kant (side) in this matter!
Ofc you can the asks are always open ♡
Dear god I had no idea about all this. But from what you told me and what I've read after a quick research, what I understood is that it was a misinterpreted situation which has turned into all this. So I totally see where you are coming from. Nobody deserves to be discriminated against but from what I understand it wasn't like that and just a huge misunderstanding which the media has done nothing but give more air too. And the people online ofc are being their natural hateful self and have dragged families into it too.

I just realised something after reading the comments on this post and recalling my own feelings in 8th grade or whenever we first started doing literary analysis. The point about drugs is very important, but I want to talk about the general "what if the author didn't mean anything by it" attitude for a moment.
I think that, for a lot of people, and especially for autistic people who are of course also the most likely to struggle with literary analysis to begin with, the sometimes oddly passionate refusal to participate in analysis is actually about a fear of having their own art misunderstood. Or even just misplaced empathy for a hypothetical author whose art is being misunderstood.
I remember being absolutely crawling-out-of-my-skin offended on the behalf of some long dead author because what if they didn't mean that? How could the teacher be 100% sure? How could we be so disrespectful as to put words in their mouth? What if I wrote a story and someone did that to me??? I was going to show them! I'd write a story in which nothing symbolised anything and if anyone dared to claim it did, I'd triumphantly let them know they were wrong! THEN they'd understand they were being disrespectful and needed to stop doing that.
But these feelings came from being misunderstood in my personal life. I had no idea that most writers actually a) did put symbolism into their art on purpose, b) had no problem with alternative interpretations and c) were reasonably educated on literary traditions instead of just kinda writing off the top of their heads.
If any of my teachers had explained that, I wouldn't have been frustrated to the point of tears because HOW COULD WE POSSIBLY KNOW OMG I'D HATE IF SOMEONE DID THAT TO ME.
I also wish my teachers had explained that "literary fiction" was a whole separate category from the genre fiction I was reading in my free time, and that it was kinda known for being especially full of symbolism. That certainly would have helped.
There is at least one person in the notes complaining that they're tired of having their poetry misinterpreted - especially when people assign meaning to specific parts that they only included as "filler" or because it rhymed. Now, you might say that only an amateur poet who hasn't formally studied the craft would be concerned about that, and that a real poet would simply consider it evidence that they're not very good yet because the goal is to no longer rely on "filler" phrases one day and to be able to change the format to fit the content of the poem instead of including irrelevant details just for the rhyme. But that's not really fair. Not every artist wants to follow tradition and art that "breaks the rules" by deliberately including fluff is still worth something. It can even be good, depending on your metrics. Besides, amateurs who haven't fully grasped how the craft they're dabbling in "normally" works deserve better criticism than "you're doing this wrong."
So I don't think the "what if the curtains are just blue" attitude is all anti-intellectualism per se, although it can easily become that. If you're trying to convince someone of the value of literary analysis, consider finding out if their resistance is coming from a place of, "But I wouldn't want people to do that to my art. :(" And no, the correct response to that is not, "Well suck it up or stop making art then because people are going to read things into it that you didn't intend whether you like it or not!"
It's hard to sum up what might help because it depends on the person, their age, and which information they're missing. But the first step is to take their feelings seriously because they're probably coming from a place of having been misunderstood a lot in non-art contexts.

Feminism- Misinterpreted  Version
What actually is Feminism?
In the current era, these two are the most misunderstood terms amongst people. But what we do not realise is that it is the utmost vital topic that needs to clean up the dust so that their true-blue meaning can be put forward. 'Feminism' is nothing but an ideology that ensures equality, but lately this term has been mixed up with an idea that is neither true nor needed, and that is the superiority of one gender, in this case females, over the other. The latter ideology is referred to as 'Pseudo-feminism' and this is what all the mix up has been about.
Don't be flabbergasted when the real essence of feminism is presented, let's understand it through an example, a woman who's working gets married at some point and herself decides to continue her job after getting married, but her husband or the family refuses to support her decision and pressurise her to leave the job, in this case the refusal or dismissal of her power to make decision is inequality and that's what feminism deals with. It's just being able to make choices and decisions on your own, even if the woman herself decides to leave her job after marriage and devote her time to the family is her right and an individual decision which should not be considered not important.
Feminism is no man hating, it never was and never will be. People need to be aware about the basic terminology and ideology that they encounter in a day and especially if that is related to some kind of individual rights. You cannot stop a girl or even a boy and devoid them of their basic right of decision making. That’s what it deals with, just basic human rights that everyone deserves.
But the problem is that Feminism has become more of a mockery dessert. And the fact that feminism has boomeranged and has caused more harm than good. And this this because of the misinterpretation of the ‘literal meaning’ of feminism.
Common Misinterpretations
Although feminism has clear goals, the misunderstandings are sometimes so many and wild in relation to critical thinking that bad ideas fill up the space around it. The most common misconception might be that feminism stands against men or tries to make women better than men. This idea might come from the fact that it always talks a lot about the need for correction of patriarchal systems that have usually helped men hold power. Feminism is essentially about equality, not placing women above men. It seeks to combat the imbalance of power and damaging stereotypes that affect everyone, for such imbalances also limit men by forcing them to conform to narrow notions of masculinity.
Another common misunderstanding is that feminism only matters to women or that it ignores problems faced by men. Feminism is about equality, which means that it looks at how strict gender roles can hurt men as well. For instance, a society often expects men to be tough, aggressive, or the principal breadwinner, which negatively affects their mental health and relationships with others. Feminist theory says that these stereotypes hurt everyone, not just women. It supports a society where all people, no matter their gender, can express themselves freely without fear of being judged or discriminated against.
Some critics also say that feminism is no longer needed because most of humanity believes gender equality has been achieved in many parts of the world already. Although important improvements have taken place in legal rights and how society thinks, gender inequality is still found in direct and subtle forms. Women, women of color, and the LGBTQ community continue to face significant barriers in employment, health care, and political expression. Gaps in pay, fewer women in government positions, and rising attacks on women are just issues that demonstrate why feminism remains relevant.
The impact of these misunderstanding on Gender Equality
These misunderstandings have real effects. If people describe feminism as anti-men or not important, it becomes easier for others to ignore the movement. This makes harder the process of creating good progress toward a more accurate gender equality because people might resist the changes made in laws or social improvements that were meant to mend any existing gender inequalities. What's worse is that the feminist activists who call for policy changes or consciousness campaigns will meet opposition from many people negatively stereotyped to the concept of feminism, which renders their efforts futile and even discourages new converts from joining the movement. Misunderstandings can also scare away possible friends, especially men, who would wish to support the causes of feminism but are released because they feel that feminism does not factor in their interests. They can break harmful gender rules in their private life and work. But sometimes, misunderstandings about feminism can make it harder for men to understand their role in the movement and how they can also benefit from a fairer society.
Moving Toward a More Accurate Understanding of Feminism
To address these misunderstandings, it is essential to highlight the inclusive and egalitarian essence of feminism. Education is key in changing perceptions; schools, universities, and media can offer more truthful representations of what feminism genuinely stands for. Public figures and influencers can contribute positively by discussing feminism in ways that emphasize its commitment to equality, empathy, and justice. Furthermore, feminists can strive to make the movement more inclusive by considering the needs of various communities and ensuring that their advocacy reflects the real challenges faced by individuals across different genders, races, and socioeconomic statuses.
Conclusion
Feminism, at its core, is a movement aimed at achieving gender equality and challenging the structural inequalities that disadvantage people based on their gender. Misinterpretations of feminism—whether as anti-male, unnecessary, or extremist—have led to significant misunderstandings about its purpose and goals. These misconceptions not only undermine the movement but also slow down progress toward a more just and inclusive society. To create lasting change, it is essential to foster a more accurate understanding of feminism, one that recognizes it as a movement for all people. By promoting inclusivity, empathy, and education, feminism can continue to advance its vision of a world where equality is not just an ideal, but a reality.

"I would rather 3 bad things happen" so you're good with child abuse? You're good with murdering trans children? As long as you get to pretend to be a good person, enabling abuse of queer kids is A-OK?
You're a disgusting human being.
My first anon hate! I'm pretty sure this is a tumblr milestone. Anyway, to answer the question (even though I'm sure it was rhetorical), obviously no, I'm not ok with that. I will do what I can to prevent that. But if there are two political candidates, and one says "I am going to brutally murder 10 people" and the other says "I am going to brutally murder 100 people" I'm going to vote for the 10 people one, and then join a protest against both of them, and brutal murder in general. I will also probably write letters to the government condemning both of them, and once it becomes clear that a significant amount of people do not want brutal murder to happen, then a candidate or party will probably decide that they can get a bunch of votes operating on a "no murdering people" policy. But until that point, we have to keep voting for the lesser evil, or the number of murders will just keep going up every election. This is a simplification of my viewpoint obviously, and if no candidate appears after enough time then there are other courses of action that I might want to do as well.
Honestly I'm pretty sure you misunderstood most of what I was saying in that post, but perhaps I should have been more clear considering it was easy to misinterpret in that way. Still, your logic is the same kind of logic as someone doing the trolley problem deciding not to pull the lever because they don't support running over people with trains, letting the 5 other people die, and then condemning everyone who did pull the lever to save 5 people killing 1 as heartless murderers.
Also for anyone seeing this out of context, the full quote was "I would rather 3 bad things happen than 100". They cut off the second half to make themself look better. I think the idea of wanting less bad things to happen is fairly uncontroversial.

I used to argue with people online all the time. my "strong sense of justice" or whatever you want to pathologize it as wouldn't let me drop arguments - not because I needed to prove I was right, even, but just because I was angry about being misinterpreted and misunderstood.
I used to hate the idea of blocking people over it. I saw it as letting them win and letting them think they're correct, even long after I knew it wasn't worth the frustration to argue. even now sometimes if I reach for the block button when someone has replied to me with any argument remotely more concrete than just cussing me out, no matter how blatantly bad faith the argument is, I feel a slight jolt of "you're letting the bullies win"
but what I have finally come to understand is that they cannot win if you do not play their game.
when they respond with a blatant misinterpretation of your words, it is not them being ignorant and truly misunderstanding. it is them grabbing a laser pointer off the wall to see if you will chase it. and their twists of your words are them seeing if you'll fall off the table if they bring the bait close enough.
blocking them is closing the door and saying you aren't playing. them acting like they won because of it is no different than someone claiming you were scared to play basketball against them when they're the one who walked onto the tennis court.
don't get me wrong, there will be people worth spending your energy on correcting. but 999 times out of 1000, it will be someone you already know and thus have enough mutual respect with, or investment in, for the discussion to be worth it. and there will be times where it makes sense to argue in order to support someone. but I promise you there is almost always a better use of your time and effort and energy than arguing with someone who is not actually reading the words you are writing, they are just getting dopamine from seeing you're still chasing their shiny red moving goalpost around.
