Damn so many questions this is fantastic, let's think about them all right now! First of all, Panyuan probably would try and eat a massive rock because (unlike normal pangolins) pangolin demons do have teeth, and they are absolutely biters. They will chew on anything. Wei Qingwei has had many panicked experiences of trying to gently worm a huge rock out of his son's mouth before he breaks his jaw or something. I like to think that, in the same way that pangolins eat small rocks and dirt to aid in crushing and digesting insects, pangolin demons eat larger rocks and shit that help with larger prey (like...large insects.........or other armoured animals). Panyuan just wandering around in the nighttime (because pangolins are largely nocturnal fun fact) and the only way he can be differentiated from the other pangolins roaming around (by the disciples looking over at him, not Wei Qingwei - he knows) is by the flashing RGB LED lights that point towards him in the darkness. This is even better if it only affects his pangolin form because that's what form he ate it in. Either that or it's just his scales affected, so his tail and random parts of his body are just randomly lighting up in human form. If Crowyuan ate a RGB plant, all hell would break loose because he's supposed to be able to blend in with his other crow companions but now he just fucking glows randomly. The idea of him having to escape from potential enemies but also flashing different colours is both hilarious and worrying because well he's being hunted but also all I can imagine for both RGB prompts is caramelldansen playing in the background. His wings would be constantly flashing and he just can't even sleep until the plant wears off. If Crowyuan could glow in the dark, he'd be so pissy because he can't do undercover missions and they are key to what he does - also he just becomes a prime target for any monsters he may be trying to observe and study so he gets even more huffy. He can, however, be used as a distraction and that's why the crows love him for it. Okay okay this last one is so cool and I'm just imagining a Scylla (the Epic song) type scenario where Luo Binghe stumbles into the dark depths of a cave looking for water and Shen Yuan is there (either like a mermaid type thing or a similar human form/monster form situation to the other pals). Just a tiny little Luo Binghe staring at this huge fucking beast towering over him. I literally don't have enough space to talk about it and I must be reminded to talk about this last prompt in more detail please and thank you.

i have to believe that god help anyone who tries to manipulate/gaslight you in front of Dick ‘Master Manipulator’ Grayson.

there will be zero survivors.

man knows how to twist words and if someone (anyone) comes at you with the intent to place blame or guilt trip you into something then he’s there. he’s certifiably good at it and knows it. has people questioning everything, stumbling over words, genuinely embarrassing themselves whilst trying to regain some sort of control over the situation.

he takes absolute pleasure in watching it. he is so protective of the people he loves and no one gets to pull that shit with you.

he fucks them up in the head. gives them a brilliant (maybe slightly evil) smile and takes you for ice cream.

I know the decision to have Julian's parents have him augmented was made on the fly but imo its pretty obvious from early on that Julian has Family Issues because he avoids talking about his family like the plague and I think they should've incorporated this into the Julian and Sisko dynamic right from early on because I think it would've made for some really compelling stories and moments and could've set up a REALLY interesting Julian and Jake dynamic which they kinda started to do but never fully went for

#star trek: ds9 #julian bashir #benjamin sisko #jake sisko #s1 Julian being so young and eager to prove himself and latching onto Sisko as this mentor figure to look up to #seeing Sisko with Jake and low-key seeking that fatherly figure connection which he won't even let himself think about #Sisko seeing this young brilliant doctor who's got all the makings to be something great and he's just GOTTA help him along #I think he would also catch on pretty quick that Julian's got Parental Issues #he tries to ask one day all casual like 'tell me about yourself :)' and Julian talks about nothing but Starfleet and med school #any attempts to ask about his family are met with awkward brief answers and redirections #and then theres the way Julian's eyes light up the first time Sisko invites him to watch a baseball game #like he Knows. he's a dad he Knows somethings up #but he doesnt pry #I also think it makes their dynamic more tragic towards the end of the series #where we have Sisko asking Julian to compromise his morals again and again #Julian's trust and respect for him gradually deteriorating #and then at the end of course Sisko is gone and they have no idea when he'll be back #which I think Julian would have a lot of complicated feelings about #but of course theres also Jake #I imagine they'd get closer #very brotherly dynamic #you know that scene in TNG where Wesley goes to Riker for girl advice and Riker and Guinan start flirting?#absolutely happens but with Jake asking Julian for girl advice and Julian wooing a girl at Quark's and Jake absolutely loses the plot #makes the events of ...Nor the Battle to the Strong more intense as well I think #also I like to think there'd be an episode where the B plot is Jake gets mad at Sisko and impulsively decides to move out #ends up at Julian's because he did not think this through #Julian is now very much caught in the middle of this family drama and he Fucking Hates It #also him and Jake are NOT compatible roommates but he's trying so so hard to be nice #eventually they have a talk and Julian cryptically hints at his own home life and tells Jake he's lucky he has a dad who cares so much #them being closer would work into what Alone Together sets up for them

I'm fascinated by the ways in which the things a creator is good at making don't necessarily line up with the kind of art that they respect or even enjoy.

This has haunted me ever since I saw a Youtube video about the downfall of The Band Perry, a country band that I had liked until their music got weird and they kind of fell off the face of the earth. Well, it turns out that they tried to reinvent their image and their style of music several times before the band finally fell apart. When they started, they had this weird Southern Gothic homeschooler style that really worked for them and was reasonably popular, but then they tried to switch to a cooler type of pop music--a style they supposedly admired and enjoyed--and it just did not work at all. They failed because they chased what they wanted to make instead of sticking with the style that they were good at.

It's a tension that's present in all creative work. At one point does "going outside the box" go too far? Can one be happy making good work even if it's not the kind of stuff they like or admire? Are the techniques and styles that are most appealing to us appealing because they're things that we can't create ourselves? As in, our minds don't work that way, so seeing these things from other creators is exciting, but the fact that our minds don't work that way is exactly why we can't imitate those things. Where's the line between creative integrity--pushing yourself to make better things--and pride--wanting to make something more prestigious and impressive instead of humbly making the type of art you're best suited to make? Can one even clearly see what they're best at making, and appreciate the good that's there rather than chasing after styles and techniques that seem better? There are no solid answers, which is why I'm going to be endlessly thinking about this.
