Night Rain CRISIS - Chapter 6
(Directory)
Tumblr media
Jun: (ーAs a result of the lottery, I ended up on the A team with Isara-san and Amagi-senpai, which was fine until…
We’ve been searching for 30 minutes and still haven’t found anything. Are we gonna be okay at this rate?)
Mao: Oh, there he is! I’m coming over, just give me a second!
…Sorry to keep you waiting– just thought I’d report this to our leader, Sazanami.
Jun: You’re good. Did you find the emergency power source?
Mao: I wish. I checked everywhere. I didn’t even find anything on the upper floors.
Jun: Well, this is a book room. I didn’t think there’d be enough room to install an emergency power source with all these bookshelves lined up.
Mao: You might be right. By the way, have you heard from the B team at all?
Jun: Yeah, I got a call that they were going to the old building, and haven’t heard from them since. I think they’re still looking for him.
Mao: Hmm, I was a bit carried away because of this game, Amagi-senpai and Hinata-kun made. But I mean, if I’m gonna have to compete, I still wanna win.
Tumblr media
Mao: Uwahh! That thunder!
That sounded pretty close, didn’t it?
Tumblr media
Jun: …………
Mao: What’s up? You’re staring at that bookshelf pretty hard.
Jun: Nah, I thought I saw something that looked like a shadow when the lightning flashed.
Mao: It was probably Amagi-senpai. We haven’t seen him in a bit, so maybe he’s trying to scare us.
Rinne: I don’t hate pranks like that, though.
Sorry though! Wasn’t me this time ♪
Jun: Woah, too close! Don’t put your arm around me so suddenly!
Rinne: Awww, you’re being way too cold!
I came all the way here after hearing my name to see if Junjun and the others had missed me.
Jun: …A shadow came from the opposite direction from you, so it definitely wasn’t you, unless, of course, you can move at a moment’s notice.
But Hinata-kun and the others went to the old building, so who could’ve done this?
It’s impossible.
Mao: Hey, hey, don’t tell me you saw a ghost…
Ah–! What is that noise happening over and over again?!
Jun: It’s coming from the back of the room, right? I didn’t sound like a book, it sounded like something heavier falling…
Rinne: Kyahaha, don’t be scared. Besides, people are way scarier than ghosts.
Well, if there’s no other choice, I’m gonna go and check it out.
Mao: It sounds like it’s getting faster!?
Rinne: Hm, I thought it’d be something like this.
Here, take a good look at this joker.
Jun & Mao: …A broom?
Rinne: Most likely, someone forgot to clean up a mess, and it was leaning on something, causing it to hit something over and over again.
Jun: Then, the figure I saw…
Rinne: It was just a broom propped up on a bookshelf that looked like the shadow of a person when it was illuminated by the lightning. When you see a ghost, you see a withered flower. ^1
Jun: Well, I’m glad you made it back safe.
Mao: For now, let’s resume our search for the emergency power source. Before anything else happens.
Tumblr media
Kuro: –Hinata, do you see anything like that?
Hinata: Hmm, it’s kind of hard to see. Kiryu-senpai, could you move a little more to the right?
Kuro: Mhm, how’s that?
Hinata: Oh, I can see! Thanks so much!
Koga: I just came back from the bathroom to find… whatever the hell this is.. What are you doing, Kiryu-senpai? Here, I can carry Hinata.
Kuro: Ah, did you see that lightning flash earlier? I saw something on the ceiling then.
Just in case, I asked him to go up there and see if it was the emergency power source. It’s hard to see from far away in this darkness.
Hinata: …Turns out it was just the paint peeling.
I’ll get off your shoulders now, Kiryu-senpai~♪
Koga: You’re as acrobatic as ever, aren’t you?
Hinata: This is one of my specialties after all~
More importantly, I’m amazed Oogami-senpai made it back in one piece.
Koga: What is that supposed to mean?
Hinata: There’s a rumor that the bathroom you were just in is haunted by the ghost of a former idol.
The ghost gets violent when his sleep is disturbed…
Koga: Isn’t that rich~?
Hinata: Ahaha, you’re interested? I didn’t think this would happen, so I didn’t do any more research.
Kuro: I’m glad you guys are having fun. Well, it doesn’t look like we’ll find the emergency power source here, so let’s head back to the main building.
Hinata: Okay~ Sounds good~
(There are six people and still no one knows where this “emergency power source” is… it must be somewhere we wouldn’t go on a daily basis.
And that’s why I suggested we go to the old building.
Hm, which reminds me…)
Hey, Oogami-senpai. I heard from Hiiro-kun one time that you helped ALKALOID move into the old building, didn’t you?
Do you remember seeing an emergency power supply at that time?
Koga: Nah, I just carried their stuff in. If anything, wouldn’t Amagi-senpai know more about this building?
It seems like they weren’t living quietly in the dorms like the others.
Hinata: That’s right…
Kuro: Hey, can you take a look at this?
Koga: Hm?
What’s in the corner of the room like that…!?
Hinata: It’s the emergency power supply!

Translation notes...
1: In Japan, there's a saying that goes, "When you see a ghost, you see a withered flower, which means that fear and suspicion make ordinary things look frightening, and that what you thought was frightening turns out to be nothing when you find out what it really is.

Jun: Place no. 7 on top of no. 10, and use no. 3 to attach them together like this? But I think we’re outta no. 3 components…
Goddamn! This is too hard. Even though mangas would sometimes contain panels that mess up the story’s timeline, or scenes that are so shockin’ even without containin’ a single line of dialogue—
Tumblr media
But this is a frickin’ instruction manual. Isn’t it a little too unrealistic for it to only contain pictures and zero words?!
Aah~, whatever. I’ll just set up all of these components first and have a look-see…
Tatsumi: It is rather difficult to comprehend.
Jun: ……
Tumblr media
UWAHH!HH!H!!! T-Tatsumi-senpai!? Y-you— When did you even get’ere?!?
Tatsumi: Apologies, I accidentally spoke out loud. I scared you, didn’t I?
I’ve walked past this area a couple of times by now. Seeing as you’re still hunched over, pouring diligently over some study materials, I couldn’t help but feel curious. So, what are you working on, Jun-san? This is an instruction manual, right?
Tumblr media
Jun: Erm… actually…
[A while later]
Jun: Hehe, it’s finally complete! It looks exactly like the sample picture, too.
Without Tatsumi-senpai’s help, who knows what it’ll end up lookin’ like. I’ll let Mary have her fun with this spray bottle toy while the weather’s still kinda hot.
All in all, I’m real thankful for ya, Tatsumi-senpai~!
Tumblr media
Tatsumi: None of that now. I’m glad to be of assistance to you, Jun-san. I’ve already tried summarizing the parts where instructions were unclear. Afterwards, I’ll have to trouble you to forward my feedback to the toy’s manufacturer in hopes that we’ll be able to assist those facing similar difficulties.
Even with that said, we managed to overcome some rather difficult portions through pure intuition alone. To err on the side of caution, shall we test out the toy before handing it over to Mary-san to play with?
Jun: Mm, that’s fair, Tatsumi-senpai. Lemme see… You’re supposed to pour water in here, select the power of the spray, and press this button—
Location: Seishou Hall Hallway
Tumblr media
Hiiro: Sorry, Buchou! We’ll need to reschedule the practice match…
Tetora: Ahaha, we can practice anytime, so don’t sweat it! Hiiro-kun, you’ve made plans to meet up with your unit mates later on, right?
Hiiro: Erm… Mayoi-senpai and Aira both replied the second they received the message, but Tatsumi-senpai hasn’t. Is he busy or something?
Tumblr media
Ah. I suddenly sensed Mayoi-senpai’s breathing — are they in the common room?

Tetora: Hiiro-kun…?
Tumblr media
Hiiro: I’mma head off first, Buchou! Let’s find a time for that practice match, yeah?
Tetora: Sure thing, Hiiro-kun— Annnd he’s gone in the blink of an eye…
Location: Seishou Hall Common Room

Aira: (Softly) Erm… I don’t really know why, but Tattsun-senpai’s looking kinda scary right now… He’s been going in circles while muttering under his breath or something for quite a while now… I don’t really wanna go any closer while he’s like that…
(Softly) Speaking of which… Mayo-senpai’s inching closer through the ceiling… Maybe he’ll know what Tattsun-senpai’s up to?
Mayoi: (Whispering) Eeeeek, if Tatsumi-san is chanting Bible scriptures or exorcizing evil spirits, I’ll definitely go up in smoke the second I get close, right?!

Tatsumi-sen—Mhhgh?!? Mgh~mghhghM!!? (Aira, why did you suddenly cover my mouth?)
Tatsumi: Huff, I think I’ve pretty much cleaned up all the water stains in the room.
Thank goodness that Jun-san’s reaction speed is fast, having removed his jacket to wrap around the defective toy… it was because of that that we were able to minimise damage to our surroundings.
Tumblr media
Even though I myself also got splashed with water, it’s not to the extent where I must immediately go change into a dry set, unlike Jun-san. I’ll dry off eventually.
I should contact Jun-san first – notify him that the room has been cleaned and that there’s no need for him to rush back. Hm… where did I put my phone— Ah, found it ♪
Tumblr media
Ah, turns out there’s some water on my face as well? When I saw my reflection on the phone’s screen, I realised I looked rather… soggy at the moment, haha.

Hiiro: Mghhgh~ Mmgmhhghmmm~? (Mhm— Only my mouth is covered right now?)

Hiiro: Mmmghhhh~? Mmgmhhhh~ Mmmmghghhghh~ (Holy? In Mayoi-senpai’s eyes, Tatsumi-senpai wiping his face with his hands does make for a rather holy scene.)
Aira: (Muttering) Stupid Hiro-kun! What’re you saying?! Tattsun-senpai’s very clearly wiping away his tears!
Mayoi: (Softly) Eeek, Aira-san somehow managed to understand whatever Hiiro-san’s saying…!?
Tumblr media
(But… Back to the topic at hand… Hiiro-kun is surprisingly very calm about having his mouth covered, and isn’t even putting up a struggle…?)
Tatsumi: Eh? Hiiro-san sent a message to ‘Hall Hands’. Everyone has already replied – I should hurry and do so as well. Let me see – a gathering over here later?
“Apologies, I just saw your message. I’m currently in the common room, and will wait here for everyone.” —and send.

Aira: (Whispering) Ah! Shoot, I forgot to mute my phone—
Aira: ……!?

Tatsumi: Oya? Turns out everyone’s already here.
So, Hiiro-san, why have we gathered here today?

Tatsumi: Ooh, it’s a photobook from the event we participated alongside Ryuseitai – Motor Show. It is a rather meaningful memento.

See, we don’t have the full picture, so we’re unable to puzzle out how we’re able to help. If Aira’s unwilling to go ask, then I’ll go.

Mayoi: Nnnno, Tatsumi-san, you don’t have to go out of your way to praise me for such a small matter…!
Tatsumi: Haha. Speaking of which, Mayoi-san, your hands are very deft. I remember that you’re very skilled in making models and the like.
Actually, there’s something particularly troublesome that I require assistance with, and I’m afraid you’re the only one who can help me.

Tatsumi: Haha, it’s great that you’re willing to help me out. Thank you, Mayoi-san.

However, please be careful that you do not lose your footing. It would be awful if you were to get injured
Season: Summer
Tumblr media
Tetora: Ughh, how unlucky’s this, Otogari-senpai. It just started raining out of nowhere
I’m relieved that ES wasn’t too far from here. It’s hard to say since we’ve escaped the rain, but if we’d kept running, we might have caught a cold
Adonis: Indeed. Fortunately, the training room has treadmills. It’s a shame I can’t run through the wind though......
There’s plenty of training equipment there. It will be worth your time
Tetora: Ossu! Speaking of strength training, going up and down the stairs is a good lower body workout, don’t you agree?
I’m pretty sure Anzu-anego [1] also uses the emergency stairs as exercise after sitting around for a while
Adonis: How sensible of them. Anyone can freely use the stairs, as they’re closer than the training grounds
Someone is running down the stairs…… Could it be Anzu?
Tetora: Hmm, I think it’s someone different. Aren’t the footsteps a little loud for Anego...?
Tumblr media
Mitsuru: Ah, Ado-chan-senpai and Tetsu-chan!
Adonis: The footsteps actually belonged to Tenma. Where were you going in such a hurry? To work perhaps?
Mitsuru: Nope, this is my free time! Work finished ages ago!
I was in the Hanging Garden, but I couldn’t run around because of the rain……
That’s why I’m running up and down the stairs! I get told off when I dash in the hallways!
I’m awesome because I’m so considerate, hehehe ☆
Adonis: I see. You are awesome, Tenma
However, please be careful that you do not lose your footing. It would be awful if you were to get injured
Mitsuru: No need to worry, I won’t get hurt!
Look look! Watch how quickly I can get to where Ado-chan’s standing! Dash dash——

Adonis: ……That was a close call. Are you okay?
Mitsuru: Y-yeah………… Thank you for catching me, Ado-chan-senpai
It’s embarrassing to fall just after I said that. I’ll be careful~
Tetora: Please do. It seriously scared the heebie-jeebies out of me
Adonis: ......Tenma is as light as Nito-senpai. Are you eating enough?
Mitsuru: Oof. Of course I am! I eat bread everyday!
Adonis: Bread is good. I enjoy anpan too. But only eating bread will result in an unbalanced diet and malnutrition

Tetora: Nonono, you’ve remembered it wrong. The saying is definitely “killing two birds with one stone”
Mitsuru-kun. It’s getting slippy because of the rain, so you should stop running down the stairs for today, yeah?
If your body wants to keep moving, the training room’s the best place for it! Wanna pump some iron together?

I was worried that my music was still playing...... Anddd, pause
Tumblr media
Tetora: Playing music...... You can play music on your watch?
Jun: It’s a smartwatch so it can do a lot of different things. It can record your steps and the number of calories you’ve burnt, and your heart rate too~
There’s an app you can get and if you connect it to your watch, it’ll store all the data for you. It makes it pretty easy to look after your health
That sounded like one of Ibara’s sale pitches~ Charging it is troublesome, but I honestly thought it was a load of crap at first
Surprisingly, it’s turned out to be pretty handy
Adonis: Life often turns out like that. I thought you measured your heart rate on your wrist, but that is much more convenient
Jun: If you’re interested, why don’t we go have a look for one another time? I know a couple of stores that sell some
If we exchange IDs, we can share our training records with each other. It’ll be good motivation if we know how much the other’s doing
Tetora: Guysss. I wanna get a smartwatch too!
Adonis: Alright. Tell me when you’re all free, and we can make some arrangements together
Jun: Sounds good. I’ll have a look later

Tumblr media
Masumi: I’ll say it countless times. At least 100 more times.
Izumi: Ummm… Where are the other three?
Tsuzuru: In the changing room. Itaru-san still hasn’t prepared his heart yet.
Izumi: Yeah, I understand how he feels. I never thought that it would actually turn out like this…

Izumi: I’m fine with going to an amusement park, but even without uniforms…
Masumi: You can’t, I want to go on a uniform date with Director.
Itaru: Alright, so only Director-san.

Tsuzuru: I wore a school uniform in our performance the other day, so I don’t really mind.
Itaru: Seriously? An unexpected betrayal.
Citron: Give up!
Itaru: Now, now, we still have senpai.
Chikage: Well it’s true I’d like to decline… Give me a break and let me be the teacher in charge.
Citron: No way! It’s meaningful if everyone does it together!
Itaru: —Oh yeah, we don’t have enough uniforms! I mean we don’t have 4 sets of them, right?
Masumi: If it’s uniforms, we can borrow one from Banri; Banri and I both have spares.

Sakuya: I’ll ask my friends too!
Itaru: GG…
Chikage: Good grief…
Izumi: We have no choice but to give up, huh…

Itaru: Ugh, this is seriously cringe! Let me go home right now, I beg you!
Chikage: Give up. You’re not the only one suffering.

Citron: You’re horrible at sports!*
Itaru: You mean we’re terrible sports.
Chikage: Sorry for the wait.
Sakuya: Wahh! Both Itaru-san and Chikage-san look great in their uniforms!

Tumblr media
Tsuzuru: Anyways, everyone’s here now so let’s go in.
Chikage: Ah, before that, I have something I want you to promise me. It’s that we definitely won’t take any photos.
Itaru: It’s legit a matter of life or death if I’m seen by the people at the office like this. So it’s especially the worst of the worst if Kazunari finds out. So pictures are absolutely NG, kthx.
Tsuzuru: Ahh, that guy… He’ll probably post it to instablam in the blink of an eye.
Izumi: That’d be rough for me too…
Sakuya: I understand! Though that’s kind of too bad.
Citron: It can’t be helped. If the birthday boy can live with that, then I can live with it too!
Tumblr media
Masumi: Let’s go already. My date time with Director is decreasing.
Tsuzuru: You seriously don’t waver, huh…
Citron: Sakuya, you’ve put your birthday badge on properly, right?
Sakuya: Yes!
Izumi: You get various benefits when you’re wearing the birthday badge, right?
Sakuya: Yes, I can’t wait!

Cast member A: Happy birthday!
Sakuya: Thank you very much!
Tumblr media
Izumi: The effect of the birthday badge really is impressive, huh?
Sakuya: I’m happy various cast members called out to me and also put on performances for me.
Tsuzuru: For now, what should we ride first?
Masumi: The Ferris wheel.
Sakuya: It seems fun if we ride it together, right!
Izumi: If it’s the Ferris wheel here, then it looks like we can all fit inside.
Masumi: Even though I wanted the two of us to ride it together, why did it turn out everyone’s joining…
Tsuzuru: Alright, alright, you can do that next time. Sakuya said he wants everyone to ride it together.
Masumi: …I got it. But I’m the one who will sit next to Director.

Izumi:  The haunted house was pretty scary and intense…!
Sakuya: Right? At first, it was scary and intense. But Citron-san taught me all the names of the ghosts so then rather than being scared, I started to feel a bond with them.
Tsuzuru: The names of the ghosts…
Sakuya: Mii-chan, Takkun, he knew everyone’s names!
Citron: The other day on TV, they said when you think you’re scared, if you give them names then you can be content** over your fear!
Itaru: You mean you can conquer your fear.
Citron: That’s it!
Izumi: (That sounds like a lesson from a children’s education program…)
-pause-
Chikage: It’s about lunch time, right?
Izumi: Fufufu, I’ve been waiting to hear those words! Tah daaah! Actually, I made lunch boxes!
Masumi: Director’s handmade lunch box…! I’ll eat them all.
Izumi: Tsuzuru-kun and I made them together for everyone.
Masumi: …Then I’ll only eat the parts that were made by Director.
Tsuzuru: You get nothing.
Sakuya: Ah! It’s napolitan!
Option 1: “Because that’s what Sakuya-kun likes.”
Izumi: Yeah, because that’s what Sakuya-kun likes!
Sakuya: Thank you very much… I’m happy!
Chikage: As expected of Director-san. By the way, I’d be glad if you had tabasco sauce.
Masumi: I don’t understand why you’d put tabasco in the precious food she made.
Option 2: “Its colour combination is nice too, right?”
Izumi: Its colour combination is nice too, right!
Sakuya: That’s true… there’s a lot of garnishes put in.
Itaru: This isn’t the amount you put in for garnishes. They’re the main dish.
Izumi: Eat up, alright, Sakuya-kun!
Sakuya: Yes!
Citron: And now, we can’t forget about this! Happy birthday~!
Sakuya: That’s a big cake! Wait, from where!?
Citron: Fufufu… The surprise is a huge success! Our preparations were perfect!
Sakuya: I’m really happy! Thank you very much, everyone! I was longing for this a little—going out and having fun to my fullest in my uniform. I never imagined it would come true after I graduated…
Izumi: …That’s so great, right, Sakuya-kun?
Sakuya: Yes! U-um… I have something I'd like to do.
Tsuzuru: It’s rare for Sakuya to say something like that.
Izumi: That’s true… What is it that you want to do?
Sakuya: Would you please allow me to take a picture with my smartphone? Just one photo for my memories is enough, so…!
Izumi: A picture…?
Sakuya: I definitely won’t show it to anyone else!
Tsuzuru: That’s fine with me but… How about Itaru-san and you guys?
Chikage: …If the main lead today says so then it can’t be helped.
Tumblr media
Itaru: Well, I guess it’s only fine if Sakuya’s the one who takes it. Since I’m sure he won’t send it to anyone.
Sakuya: Thank you very much!
Citron: I brought a shellfish stick!***
Sakuya: Shellfish stick?
Tsuzuru: Could you mean a selfie stick?
Citron: That’s it!
Izumi: …Alright. I think everyone’s in frame. Make sure to smile properly, alright, Itaru-san and Chikage-san.
Chikage: I understand.
Itaru: Roger.
Izumi: Then once again, Sakuya-kun…
Troupe members: Happy birthday!

Possessive!Main cast is my ISH so thank you for requesting this haha.
WARNING! Profanity, suggestive language, and light violence ahead. Also, creepy creeps creeping up on a pretty gal.
She was waiting for him near the locker rooms, in the spot she promised. As she was texting him that she was waiting, she noticed a shadow step into her line of sight. As she looked up at the newcomer, she was disappointed to see it was a stranger. Looking closer, she recognized his school uniform as belonging to the team her boyfriend just annihilated on the court.
“Can I help you?”
“Hey now, that’s kind of cold. I just wanted to talk. What’s a pretty thing like you doing all alone out here?” Oh. It’s one of those guys. She simply smiled.
“I’m waiting for my boyfriend.” His smile faded a little, but to her shock, he decided to keep going. Fortunately for her, the door to his team’s locker room swung open.
Akashi
“Well, can’t we just be friends? Give me your LINE, we can chat, can’t we? Your boyfriend can’t tell you who you can talk to, right?”
“But I’m telling you that I don’t want to talk to you.” Akashi, who had been walking out of the locker rooms, heard it all. The gentle smile he always wore faded from the redhead’s face as he practically snapped his head in the direction of her voice. His lovely girlfriend had a scowl on her face. The young man had his hand on her phone, obviously trying to exchange numbers. Without another second to waste, Akashi swooped in, grabbing the man’s wrist with a vice grip.
“Excuse me, you’d best not be putting your hands on a young woman’s belongings without her explicit permission.” Akashi ground out. Simultaneously, his other hand fell open (Name)’s, threading his fingers through hers’. “You’d do best to make this your second and last loss tonight. Because the next might be your last.”
The man jumped and scurried away, leaving (Name) with an incensed Akashi. He pulled her close to him, pressing his hand to her head and cradling her against his chest, the other arm circled tightly around her waist.
“Sei-kun, I’m fine.”
“You didn’t look fine. I’m sorry I was late.” A rare grumble escaped his lips. “A shameless man like that shouldn’t ever even consider placing his hands on you.” You laughed, pulling on his cheek playfully.
“Well, he’s gone now, thanks to you and your way with words. Now, let’s forget about it and go get something to eat for my winner, yes?” Akashi’s tensed expression melted away, and he brought her hand up to kiss her wrist.
“Very well, as collateral, I’ll be occupying the rest of your night.”
Murasakibara
He took a lock her hair in his hand. “Wow,” he commented in adoration. “Your hair is so smooth, and it smells good too.” She was so tense that her shoulders ached. She wanted to scream and hit him and act like a child so that he would leave her alone. As she opened her mouth, she heart a shout and the man’s shadow was gone.
“Ew, what’s this loser doing in front of my prize?”
“A-Atsushi!?” Did he just call me his prize? She wondered to herself, but she didn’t have long to ruminate, because the looming purple giant quite literally threw the man away from her. he landed on his but a few feet away. (Name) could do nothing but stare in awe at the absurdity. She knew her boyfriend was strong, but- “Uwahh!”
Murasakibara swept his hands under her legs and scooped her up into a princess carry with ease. She instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck. She felt the heat of embarrassment travel up her nape, through her ears, and up to her cheeks as she felt the astonished stares of everyone around them.
“You’re so light, (Name)-chin. I missed you.”
“N-never mind that! What about this situation!” Murasakibara stared at her blankly for a moment, before he turned to the still stunned young man on the floor.
“By the way, (Name)-chin doesn’t just smell good, she tastes good too.” Both (Name) and the man promptly passed out, cheeks redder than a candy apple. She should have just thrown a tantrum, after all!
Aomine
y’all ever watch Fruits Basket uwu
“Please leave me alone.” (Name) deadpanned, deciding to return her attention to her phone. “You’ll regret it.”
“Come on, now, I’m not trying to do anything weird.” She saw his shadow shift a little closer, so close that the could feel his body in her circle despite her efforts to shift away. She was ready to make a scene, when she felt the vibration on her back of someone slamming something hard into the space above her head.
“Hey dirtbag. Quit trying to touch things that ain’t yours.” (Name) recognized the voice, though not the tone that it carried. She looked up to see Aomine, his expression sharp and dark. His brow was furrowed and his teeth were clenched so hard it sounded like he was speaking through them. He was leaning in so close that she could smell his cologne, which made her heart beat a little faster. The stranger instinctively raised his hands in defense.
“I-I was just kidding...”
“You sure? I don’t mind, I’m a confident guy.” Aomine cracked his knuckles before wrapping a gentle but firm arm around her waist, pulling her close to his chest.
“I could even beat you one handed. If not, quit wasting my fuckin’ time with my hot girlfriend and beat it before you lose a couple teeth along with the game tonight.” As the poor thing sprinted away, squealing in fear, (Name) reached up and pulled on his cheek.
“Since when was my Daiki this cool? Bring back my lame, smelly boyfriend.”
“I am always cool!”
Midorima
The man picked up her hand and brought it to his lips. She cringed and turned her head away, feeling sick. That’s when an orange-clad arm shot out, separating him from you. (Name) recognized Midorima’s back. She couldn’t see his face, but whatever look he gave turned the male’s face pale as he turned tail and ran. Without waiting for him to even disappear around the corner, Midorima had already grabbed her slender wrist with a grip much stronger than he intended.
“H-Hey, Shinar- Ow! Are you mad??” She asked as she staggered behind him with confusion written all over her face. “What did I do?” He didn’t answer as he led her out of the stadium ahead of his team. “Takao-kun will be mad if you-”
“Don’t let another man’s name leave your lips after something like that!” She bristled and glared at his back.
“What? How was that my fau-” He cut her off suddenly, as if his lips had snapped open without his will. He turned around when they were alone and grabbed her shoulders, emerald green meeting (E/C). “Have a little more consciousness when I’m not with you!” She stared at him in bewilderment before the lightbulb suddenly went off above her head. She threw her arms around his waist. He caught her on instinct, his taped hands wrapping themselves around her waist and locking into place in a tight embrace.
“I’m okay. He was just annoying. You don’t have to be so scared for my sake.” She glanced up at him, smiling in that way that he hated, since he was no match for it. He used his hand to press her face into his shoulder. He didn’t want her to see him when he was like this.
“You fool, how could I not worry when every man sees you the same way I do?”
Kise
“(Name)-cchi, your hair is so pretty today. Did you use the hair treatment I brought you? Oh, you smell like the perfume I got you, as well. I knew it would suit you. I know you better than anyone else, after all.” She was just as embarrassed as the young man who had approached her was. She could feel her face turning various shades of red. He had immediately jumped in before the man could even get another word in.
Damn it, all the times I want him to be cooler, and he chooses now-! She didn’t complain when Kise latched himself onto her, resting his chin atop her head. She tried not to get comfortable in his familiar embrace. She was in public, after all! However, she jumped when she felt the hands at her waist travel down a little further.
“R-Ryouta-!” She squeaked. He was always touchy in public, but never this touchy. Kise kept her trapped in his arms, shifting his chin to rest in the crook of her neck as she glanced up at the intruder with a cold look in his eyes.
“Sorry, (Name)-cchi, I just thought I would put someone who doesn’t have any business in approaching you in their place.”
Kagami
hc Kagami is a feminist
Kagami had been the first out of the locker room, because he wanted to grab his lovely girlfriend her favorite drink from the vending machine. Anything to make her smile. He was in a great mood since they won the game, and he had a date scheduled with (Name). Today was going to be great...
...So why am I here!? Kagami lamented from behind the pole he was hiding behind. Granted, he wasn’t hiding well, as pointed out by children passing by with their parents and other players. This guy wasn’t doing anything, but he really didn’t like it. But Coach had said that girls don’t like guys who jump to weird conclusions and point fingers. It made them look weak and insecure, so he tried to be the bigger man. (Name) was always so elegant and mature, after all. She didn’t look like she was in trouble. He believed in her ability to stand without him! Then, he could swoop in and be the cool and suave boyfriend in front of her! Just think rationally...
“You’re so pretty, I bet you’d look really good with earrings, can I buy you a pair? You have piercings? Let me see...”
“H-Hey, don’t touch me!”
....
THINKING RATIONALLY CAN COME LATER.
“Oi! Get your fucking hands off her, dick!”
Kuroko
“(Name). ” Kuroko stood in between her and the stranger. Both of them nearly leaped out of their skin. Even his girlfriend wasn’t used to him appearing out of nowhere. “Are you alright?” Kuroko was impassive as ever, but his gaze remained intently on the man in front of him. It was enough to make the man take a step back.
“W-where did you come from?”
“The locker room.”
“That’s not what I meant!” (Name) recovered first, wrapping her arm around around Kuroko’s and smiling in relief. Kuroko felt his chest tighten with worry. He slipped his hand into hers and walked beside her away from the offending stranger.
“I’m sorry,” he said as soon as they were out of ear shot. “I should have been quicker so he wouldn’t have been able to speak with you.”
“It’s not like you to worry about something as trivial as that, Tetsuya-kun.” She laughed, but Kuroko didn’t find it as amusing. He stopped, turned around and brought her hand to his cheek, leaning into it with a cute, pouty expression.
“I’m normally not, but I might be becoming a little crazy about you, so please let me be a little childish when it comes to you.” Her cheeks warmed as she resisted the urge to cuddle up to him right here. So cute!

Title: Afflicted Relationship(s): Kamukura Izuru/Komaeda Nagito Hinata Hajime/Komaeda Nagito Rating: Mature Chapters: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / ? Chapter Summary: Komaeda weighs his options, Kuzuryuu begrudgingly listens to his worries Trigger Warnings: Panic attacks, mental breakdown, dismissing mental illness, IV stuff
[Ao3 Link]
┈┈┈┈․° ☣ °․┈┈┈┈
Hinata was sprawled out on the floor lying face up. His body was lifeless, save for the occasional twitches of his fingers and eyelids as neurons and muscles misfired in a feeble attempt to keep him conscious.
I knelt down, taking the boy's heated face into my hands and angling it up towards mine. He was incredibly pale, the only colour remaining on porcelain skin the flush of his fever. His breathing was slow and shallow, every little warm breath close enough to taste on my lips as I leaned in close. There was no way I couldn't begin to panic when he was in such a state.
"Hinata-kun! I understand if you're so repulsed by my actions that you've passed out, and I know it's more than I should ask of you..." The words came out of my mouth too rushed and barely intelligible, so I took a deep breath. "But please give me some sign you're okay."
My hands were beginning to shake, enough so that my hold on Hinata’s face became too loose to support the weight of his head. His face slipped from my grasp, his head lolling to the side as a soft gasp escaped my lips.
Did I kill Hinata-kun? No, that's ridiculous. You can't kill somebody by kissing them. I mean, you can, technically, but not like this. Surely not?
I wiped the remaining saliva from my lips, subtle evidence of a possible cause of death. Carefully rising to my feet, I stared down at Hinata’s weakened form. Fear was beginning to take hold, anxiety burning through my bloodstream and forcing me to move.
I can't lose him, not to such a hopeless cause. Hinata-kun didn't deserve to die such a pointless death by my hands, he deserved something grandiose, something exhilarating.
This kind of death would just be… boring. Wasteful.
"Tsumiki-san!!" I called out, my feet setting into motion as I made a dash for the room's exit. For a second, I felt a passing relief that Hinata had collapsed before Tsumiki had accidentally seen the repulsive things I was doing, but quickly scolded myself for thinking such a selfish thought. Hinata’s life was in danger and here I was glad that Tsumiki didn’t see me sucking face with him? How pathetic.
There was no doubt about it. It was my own luck that had caused Hinata to pass out. It was protecting me from being caught preying on him. That realisation caused something deep within my chest to ache with repulsion, dread, undiluted terror.
Despair.
I can only assume it was that same twisted luck that guided me into Tsumiki's arms, causing me to bump straight into her as she was coming into the room. All of the school's advice against running into halls went wasted on the likes of me. We slammed hard into one another with an "Oof."
As Tsumiki went crashing to the floor, the saline bag in her hand was squished into her chest, causing it to burst and soak her clothes with salty water. They stuck to her body damply, clinging to her skin in an erotic way. Her skirt had also flown up in the process, flashing me with an inappropriate amount of thigh along with her white underwear.
"Uwahh! K-K-K-Komaeda-san!!" She squealed, pulling her skirt down in a desperate attempt to save her dignity as her face flushed a bright red.
"A-ah, I'm so sorry you had to even accidentally touch somebody as disgusting as me!" I reached out a hand, offering to help her up. "My apologies for running, but it appears that Hinata-kun has collapsed."
"Wahh?! D-D-Don't worry about me, t-that's what you should be concerned about!" Tsumiki grabbed my hand, allowing me to help pull her up to her feet.
Without another word she scooted past me and into the room, abandoning the spilt saline bag on the floor. She practically pounced on Hinata's lifeless body, throwing herself into her brilliant talent as she pressed her ear to his chest and a hand to his forehead.
“He- he’s burning right up! Wh-why was he even out of bed? What was he doing before he collapsed?!" She began exasperated throwing a flurry of questions at me, all whilst examining Hinata's eyes for any sign of possible head trauma.
"He was…" I paused, teeth teasing unconsciously at my bottom lip. "Kissing me. We were making out."
The nurse's head snapped around in a fashion not so dissimilar to the creepy way an owl's would turn unnaturally. Her grey eyes bore right into me with an expression of rage mixed with shock. "A-are you s-s-serious?! K-Komaeda-san that's so irresponsible! You should know that you'll catch th--"
“Of course not!” I slid my hands up the sides of my arms, gripping at the sleeves of my jacket as I pulled my eyes away from Tsumiki’s. “Don't you know that kind of thing only happens in fiction? It would be repulsive for somebody like me to take advantage of an Ultimate’s illness for my own selfish desires. The very thought makes me want to vomit in my mouth!”
Tsumiki narrowed her eyes for a second, before realisation set in and they shot back open. “O-oh! I see…”
“Ha, hahahah.” Bringing my hand to my mouth, I touched my lips absentmindedly and glanced towards Hinata's body still laid out on the floor.
Was it wrong of me to say that? I can't have Tsumiki knowing of my intentions, she would stop me without hesitation. Perhaps the others would tie me up again, then I would miss the murder and the investigation... how awful. But, I can't shake this odd feeling that this is the wrong thing, that I should tell the truth. There is a possibility that not being honest about the cause of Hinata's fainting spell could lead to complications further on.
It could even be the one thing that leads to his death. After all, his condition is somewhat worse than Owari or Mioda's…
But owning up would reveal our intentions and likely ruin any chance of allowing the Ultimates to shine even brighter…
No. I shook my head free of the thoughts. The silence had dragged on long enough, Tsumiki was going to start questioning my words unless I spoke up soon.
“Well then… should we move him?”
"R-right!" With a few fervent nods, Tsumiki hopped off Hinata's body. "Yes! Please help me get him onto the bed so I can properly tend to Hinata-san's needs!"
Hinata-san's needs… huh?
Nodding in return, I brought myself back to Hinata's side and knelt down to the floor. "Well then, would you be okay getting his legs?"
"O-of course!" Scrambling to his legs, Tsumiki quickly slid her arms under the back of Hinata's knees. "I'm r-ready to lift him when-whenever you are."
I hooked my arms under his armpits, making sure not to take note of just how damp and sweaty he was with fever. There was a moment of eye contact, a quick nod, and then we both lifted him.
Thankfully the hospital rooms were so small, we didn't have to move Hinata incredibly far to return him to his bed. Tsumiki rearranged his sheets, carefully tucking Hinata back under the dull blue comforter as she examined his arms.
"I-I-I was coming to re-replace his IV… but it l-looks like he's p-pulled it out…" With a rather disdainful expression, she glanced over to the IV pole. "Again…"
Just as she had said, Hinata's line was pooled on the floor, the small tube that had presumably been in his arm now having smeared blood on the floor. The machine had stopped infusing, in fact it had been switched off entirely so as to not alert Tsumiki, and now the remaining fluid in the line had drained onto the floor.
"He's been rather uncharacteristically troublesome, hasn't he?" I couldn't help but chuckle, glancing over at the restless, almost pained look on Hinata's face. "I'm sorry, it's reprehensible that I would laugh at your struggle, but I could never see Hinata-kun kicking up such a fuss in his usual state."
There was a short moment of silence before Tsumiki giggled as well, clasping her hands together. "Y-you're right! H-Hinata-san is v-very different. But it's okay! We w-will get through this!"
"That's the spirit! Your hope is amazing Tsumiki-san! To still haven't given up on Hinata-kun like that… it's amazing! Truly nobody has a tolerance like that of the Ultimate Nurse!" As I took a rather sharp inhale, I couldn't help the big grin that spread on my face. "Seeing you in action like this has brought a worthless nobody like me hope and distracted me from all my worries!"
Ah.
My… worries.
My smile became a little more strained. Tsumiki was looking at me with a mix of disgust and fear, the enjoyment she had been feeling at receiving compliments far gone.
I didn't let my smile fall as I blinked slowly, realising it was probably time for me to leave her be. Lifting my hand, I waved to her as I began to head towards the door. "Well, I won't get in your way any longer. Goodbye."
As I left the scene, I glanced back one last time at the room. In the place where Hinata had collapsed, the spider lily he had been holding earlier was laid on the floor, likely having been abandoned when he came towards me. It seemed as though it had been crushed among the chaos, red petals scattered and bleeding onto the linoleum floor.
I turned away quickly.
Why do I… feel so distracted? Why am I so scared ?
He kissed me. He wants me to spread it. He told me to spread it. That should be my top priority.
So why do I so desperately want to turn back? To return and sit by Hinata's side, taking care of his every need instead of spreading hope?
As I stepped out into the hallway, I shut the door behind me with a shaking hand. That sensation in my chest only continued to grow as I made my way back towards the waiting room.
I should be putting a plan into place, something that would allow me to spread the disease faster. Something that would perhaps lure someone here, bring them in contact. Or perhaps I could bring the infected into the quarantined hotel? Or go back into Hinata's room to go check on him again? Tell the others that Hinata was dying and that we so desperately needed them to come do something before it became the fault of me and my filthy luck and the blood of an Ultimate coated my hands and I would be so deservedly executed.
Unconsciously, my fingers found their way into my hair, winding themselves around the coarse locks and pulling tightly. There was a familiar sound ringing in my ears, the loud buzzing of a swarm of insects. They filled my ears and mouth and eyes with their filthy touch, tainting everything in sight, destroying the world before me.
"It's your fault he's going to die." They whispered, barely audible beneath the white noise. "It's always your fault. You know this."
My mind was racing, my lungs were burning. It was if a black poison was seeping over my mind, dripping down over my eyes, obscuring my vision and thoughts. I couldn't think straight, everything was so overwhelming it was almost funny.
It was funny, so I laughed. It hurt my chest and wheezed like the final pitiful exhale of a corpse, but I laughed.
And I laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed.
Until something hit me hard on the back of my head, knocking me from my daze and causing me to choke on my breath.
"Oi. Stop freaking out, it's fuckin' creepy."
I blinked a few times, my vision beginning to clear as those dark shadows were chased back into the corners of my vision. The hospital's lobby slowly came into vision, along with a very angry looking Kuzuryuu. He scowled, crossing his arms over his chest tightly and forcing himself to sit up taller.
Ah, of course. How unsightly it must be to watch someone like me being so pathetic.
All my attempts to apologise were drowned out as I coughed and spluttered, attempting to regain my breath. The world was much clearer now, my eyes readjusting to the tropical sunshine streaming through the windows. It appeared as though I was now sitting down in the waiting room, yet I had no memory of moving from the wards and into the lobby.
I unballed my fists, my fingers aching from the strain as they unfolded and released my hair. The pain pulling at my scalp faded, and slowly I brought my shaking hands down to my knees. To my frustration, they instinctively gripped tightly at the fabric, clutching tightly until the denim burned into my palms.
Opening my mouth, I attempted once again to say some kind of apology for my misgivings, but all that came out was a rasped "Ah," closely followed by a shaky "Sorry."
Kuzuryuu huffed, his nose crinkling as he prepared to spit some kind of insult, but instead of ripping into me, he paused. There were a few seconds of still silence before he sighed loudly, allowing his body to relax a little and posture fall. "He's fine, don't get so fuckin' worked up about it."
"I'm… sure you're right." A breathy laugh forced itself out, as if squeezed out from the tight feeling in my chest. "After all, you are an Ultimate."
"Wha-? You think being an Ultimate makes me right about everything?" He scoffed, not in a tone as if he were looking down and mocking me, but more one of amusement. "They're wrong about you being crazy, you're just a fucking moron like me. Or maybe I'm the crazy one for even talking to you, who knows?"
It was difficult to think of what to say in response to that. I decided not to think too long on it, instead choosing to laugh along with him. "Perhaps."
The small smile that was on Kuzuryuu's face slowly dropped. The positive feeling in the air evaporated like mist and a heavy silence settled over the room. All that could be heard in the empty waiting room was the sound of Owari sobbing as though her life depended on it echoing down the corridor from her room. Eventually, Kuzuryuu broke the silence as he sighed loudly, leaning back in the stiff plastic hospital chair as best he could.
“I think I’m… starting to get your whole crazy ‘stepping stone to hope’ shit.” He paused to scoff at himself, as if he was in shock that he would say such a thing. “Ever since Peko saved me, it feels like I owe this life to her, or to everyone else. It’s like it’s not my own anymore. Just a spare.”
"If I'm not wrong, you're referring to Pekoyama-san's sacrifice? It’s no surprise you feel that way, but there was very little you could have done to prevent her execution.”
Kuzuryuu still grumbled after I asked, sounding frustrated by the question. It was no surprise, he had reacted rather poorly when I brought it up during Owari’s fight as well, but dancing around the topic seemed pointless. What Pekoyama did for the one she loved was amazing, there was no logical reason to not acknowledge that.
“It’s that stupid fucking Monokuma’s fault! But what kind of fucking person am I to let Peko take the blow for me after all that I said? It’s messed up. The only reason I didn’t die is because she shielded me, a tool ‘til the end.” As he said the last few words, Kuzuryuu slammed his fist against his leg, growing more frustrated as he continued to think about it.
I shrugged. "Pekoyama-san was an amazing person. She died for the sake of your hope, so that you could continue to be a beacon for your family and the Kuzuryuu Clan. There's no point in being angry at her for doing the right thing…"
The right thing, huh?
"What she did wasn't the right thing! The right thing would have been for her to stay with me!" Jumping out of his chair, Kuzuryuu glared down at me. "No death is a 'hopeful thing' you dumbass!"
Spreading hope is the right thing to do, so that's what I should do, right?
"Hey! Are you even listening to me? Jesus, you really are messed in the head." He scrunched up his nose in a snarl. "I'm trying to be more forgiving and a better fucking person and all that shit but you really piss me off, going on about how everything is great as long as it's for fucking hope !"
I don't need to worry about my feelings. I just need to spread hope, like Pekoyama-san did.
I looked up at him, locking eyes as I smiled widely at the Yakuza. "I think I get it now. Thank you, Kuzuryuu-kun, you are a truly wonderful person. I'm sure Pekoyama-san is proud of you."
"What?! What the hell are you talking about, you bastard? Don't go around saying things like that." In an attempt to hide his reddening face, Kuzuryuu turned his head to the side, looking away from me.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to upset you." I raised my hands in a defensive position, hoping to calm him.
"Whatever… just go take a break or something." Still refusing to look at me, Kuzuryuu grumbled. "I'll take care of things here, alright?"
I nodded. "Thank you, Kuzuryuu-kun, you really do make a brilliant leader."
"Just get out of here!"
Laughing softly, I carefully rose to my feet, still feeling a little dizzy from lack of oxygen. As Kuzuryuu began to head back towards the wards, I realised something.
"Wait! How did you know about what happened to Hinata-kun?"
"Huh?" He stopped, spinning around to face me. "Because you came in here cackling like a maniac. You wouldn't answer my questions so I checked in with Tsumiki about it. By the time I got back you were still out here having your breakdown, just now sitting down and babbling away to yourself creepily about how you were a murderer."
"Ah." Yeah, that sounded right. "Sorry about that."
Kuzuryuu shook his head, muttering something under his breath before pushing open the doors to the corridor and continuing on his way.
I figured it was probably time I did what he said too and took advantage of this opportunity to put my plan into action.
With a wide smile, I headed towards the entrance of the hospital, pushing open the doors before stepping out into the warm sunlight.

Yokai Watch 2 Translation Comparison
(Masterpost for my Yokai Watch translations can be found here)
Before you continue to read, note that this will contain spoilers for Yokai Watch 2, at least two notable sidequests, to be precise. So if you’d rather not be spoiled for that, don’t read the rest of this.
So, this one is going to be a comparison of the original Japanese and English localized version of the pre- and post-battle dialouge for the boss Hans Full.
Tumblr media
This quest, “The Haunted Hospital” is very dear to me, not just cause I’m a fan of everyone involved, but also because it’s one of the first bits of Yokai Watch text I ever translated, so I’ve always wanted to make a comparison of some of its dialouge’s Japanese and English versions.
(Note that while I’m going to use the version featuring Nate as the protagonist for my translation, but in this case there are next to no differences between Nate and Katie’s version. The only real “difference” is that when Nate screams he goes “Uwaah”, while Katie goes “Kyaah”, and Whisper using a different suffix for them.)
First will be just the texts themselves, with simple translation notes by me. After that I will go over notable changes in the dialouge, and my thoughts on them. Then I will go slightly more in-depth with changes to this part of the quest, not just involving the dialouge on it’s own. Lastly I will give my overall opinion on the localization as a whole.
For the translation part, the usual rules apply:
Bolded is the original Japanese; for reference and in case someone who is better at Japanese than I reads this, and feels like correcting something.
Bolded and italicized is my translation.
Cursive is the offical English translation.
(Number) Indicates I got a specific comment to make on that part in the translation notes.
Please keep in mind that I’m a beginner when it comes to Japanese, so it’s possible that I make mistakes, too.
I also don’t actually own the English version of the game so I´m going by screenshots, so if you are someone that does own it and you notice me making mistakes regarding that version, feel free to correct me.
(You can watch these scenes here in English, and here in Japanese)
Before Battle:
Maddiman:
ふはははははは!!!
Fuhahahahahaha!!!
Mwahahahahahahahaha!
Maddiman:
やはり 私は天才だ! ついに! ついに完成したぞ!!
I truly am a genius! Finally! I've finally completed it!! (1)
It is complete! At last, the world shall know my genius!
Maddiman:
いくつもの 妖怪をツギハギで作った まさに 究極の合成妖怪!!
By patching several yōkai together, I created the definite, ultimate Synthetic Yōkai!!
From countless other Yo-kai, I have created one greater than any of them!
Maddiman:
その名も アマテラス!!
And its name is Amaterasu!! (2)
And it shall be called Amatera!
Maddiman:
…と 言いたいところだが この妖怪は 私の想定をも はるかに超えてしまった…。
...Or so I would like to say, but this yōkai has exceeded my expectations by far...
...You know, now that I look at it, it doesn't really look like an Amatera.
Maddiman:
これでは… アマテラスならぬ モテアマスだ…!
This is... Not Amaterasu, it is Moteamasu...! (3)
I shall call it...Hans Full!
Maddiman:
今はまだ 絶対に このカプセルから 出すわけにはいかん…。
For now, I absolutely cannot let it out of this capsule yet...
Truly a fearsome beast... Fortunately, it cannot break free of its birthing tank.
Whisper:
むむ! あやしげな妖怪が あやしげな実験をしていますよ!
My! A suspicious yōkai is performing a suspicious experiment!
My word! This mad-scientist Yo-kai appears to be performing mad science!
Maddiman:
絶対に このボタンを押したらダメだ…。 絶対に……。
This button must absolutely not be pressed... Absolutely...
Now I being my lonely vigil—preventing anyone from pressing this button.
Whisper:
ん? なにを押したらダメなんですか?
Hm? What mustn't be pressed?
Oho! A button that mustn't be pressed?
Maddiman:
だ 誰だ!? 我が実験室に 勝手に入ってくるヤツは!
W-who's there!? Who has entered  MY laboratory without permission!?
Wh-who said that?! Who has entered my laboratory?!
Maddiman:
や! やめろ! これは押すな!! 絶対に押すなよ!!
S-stop! Don't press that!! You absolutely mustn't press it!!
NO! Don't press that! Do not, under any circumstances, press that button!
Whisper:
あ もしかして このボタンです?
Ah, do you mean this button here?
What? This button here under my rapidly descending finger?
Nate:
あっ…! ウィスパー!
Ah...! Whisper!
Whisper, is that a good idea?!
Whisper:
ポチっとな。
Boop.
We're about to find out!
Maddiman:
ぎえーーーーーーー!!!!!
Gieehhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Maddiman:
ぎああああああ!!!! もう どうなっても知らんぞー!!!!!
Giaaaaaa!!!!! You brought this on yourself!!!!! (4)
You fool! Be this on your own head!
Whisper:
ぎゃああああああ!! で でたーーー!!!
Gyaaaaaaaaaaa!! I-it's out!!!
Oh no! It's escaped! Who could have forseen this turn of events?!
Nate:
ちょ ちょっと!! ウィスパー 何してんの!!?
H-Hang on!! Whisper, what are you doing!!?
Whisper, what did you do?!
Whisper:
だ… だって 押すなって言われたら 押しちゃうもんでしょおおお!!!
I... It's just, if you're told not to press something, you just press it anyway, right?!!!
Well, I pressed the button. I'd have thought that rather obvious.
Nate:
うわあっ! く… くる!!
Uwahh! H... Here it comes!!
We're gonna have a talk about this later!
Notes:
For the purpose of this particular translation, I am referring to Hans Full as “it”, the same way the English version does. Note though that, due to how the language works, in the Japanese version, Hans Full is never actually referred to with any third-person pronouns, from what I can tell. The English version is also potentially inconsistent in this regard, as Hans Full is referred to as “it” in this quest, but in “The Price of The World”, “he” is used instead. In the Japanese version, while no third-person pronouns are used to refer to Hans Full, he is briefly referred to as male by Whisper in “The Price of The World”.
The name “Amaterasu” is taken from the Shinto goddess Amaterasu.
The name “Moteamasu” is taken from 持て余す/moteamasu which means “to be more than one can handle”, “to be more than one knows what to do with”, “to be beyond one’s control”, and the like.
What he says here literally translates to something like “I don’t know what’s going to happen anymore”, but it’s a figure of speech that means something like “Don’t blame me for what’s gonna happen”; “I wouldn’t do that/wouldn’t have done that if I were you”, “If something bad happens, it’s your own fault”, and the like.
--
After Battle:
Nate: びっっっくりしたぁ〜!
That really scared me!
That was a tough one...
Whisper: 危なかったですね ケータくん!
That sure was dangerous, Kēta! (1)
In retrospect, I suppose I was a tad impulsive. My apologies, Nate.
Nate:
ところで さっき一瞬 見覚えのある人がいたような...。
By the way, for a second it felt like there was someone I know...
But something just now seems familiar...
Nate:
ウィスパー 覚えてない?
Do you remember anything, Whisper?
Whisper, did anything seem familiar to you?
Whisper:
......。
...
...
Whisper:
気のせいじゃないですか?
Aren't you just imagining things?
Probably nothing! Certainly nothing that will come back to haunt us later!
Nate:
そうだよね。 さっ 帰ろ帰ろ!
Yeah, probably. Come on, let's go home!
I guess you're right. Anyway, let's go home!
Note:
In the Japanese version, Whisper uses the suffix くん/-kun when referring to Nate. If it is Katie instead of Nate, he used the suffix ちゃん/-chan to adress her.
Now, with the translation out of the way, I want to go over some changes that stood out to me personally between the two different versions of this dialouge.
For me, the most notable difference between the Japanese original and the English localization is the fact that Dr. Maddiman seems more, let’s say “clueless”, or at least at ease in English, and it's less clear what he is even planning.
Take the passage where he names Hans Full as an example:
Maddiman: And its name is Amaterasu!! And it shall be called Amatera!
Maddiman: …Or so I would like to say, but this yōkai has exceeded my expectations by far… …You know, now that I look at it, it doesn’t really look like an Amatera.
Maddiman: This is… Not Amaterasu, it is Moteamasu…! I shall call it…Hans Full!
Note how the way Dr. Maddiman decides on the new name for his creation differs.
In the Japanese version, Dr. Maddiman shows a better understanding of the situation he is in, noting that Amaterasu far exceeded his expectations, and he makes it clear that he understands it is more than he can handle, by literally naming it "Moteamasu", or “more than I can handle”.
In the English version, he simply comes to the conclusion that it "doesn't really look like an Amatera", and renames it to “Hans Full”.
Thus, in the English version the renaming is a lot more random, which arguably could've been intentional, for comedic effect or the like. Much worse is the fact that we lose information that is clearly given to us in the original, which is Dr. Maddiman being overwhelmed by his creation exceeding his expectations.
This next part also contains some notable differences:
Maddiman: For now, I absolutely cannot let it out of this capsule yet… Truly a fearsome beast… Fortunately, it cannot break free of its birthing tank.
(...)
Maddiman: This button must absolutely not be pressed… Absolutely… Now I being my lonely vigil—preventing anyone from pressing this button.
For starters, "(...) it cannot break free of its birthing tank.", is simply incorrect, as Hans Full very much can break free, and does so as soon as it wakes up.
Also, in the Japanese version, Dr. Maddiman makes it clear that he merely intends to keep Hans Full within the tank for now, whereas the English wording doesn't make it clear, and could even be interpreted as him intending to keep it inside forever: "Now I being my lonely vigil—preventing anyone from pressing this button."
In the English version it’s also less clear why Dr. Maddiman would want to keep Hans Full locked up in the tank in the first place, as in that version he hasn’t expressed explicit worry over  Hans Full’s unpredicted power.
More of a minor detail, but the "birthing tank" is also simply called a "capsule" in Japanese. However, in "The Price of the World", Dr. Maddiman likens the creation of Hans Full to a birth in both the English and the Japanese version, thus I don't consider the added birth metaphor here to be too much of tonal change. It’s alright with me, as it’s not something they took from nowhere.
After this, the next notable differences I want to talk about are actually at the very end:
Nate: By the way, for a second it felt like there was someone I know… But something just now seems familiar…
Nate: Do you remember anything, Whisper? Whisper, did anything seem familiar to you?
Whisper: … …
Whisper: Aren’t you just imagining things? Probably nothing! Certainly nothing that will come back to haunt us later!
The changes here feel a bit strange to me. In the Japanese version, Nate specifically mentions that for a moment he felt like "someone he knows" was there, seemingly subconsiously remembering Dr. Maddiman specifically, while the English line could also be interpreted as him remembering the events that occured in Nocturne Hospital during Yokai Watch 1 as a whole.
The added "(...)certainly nothing that will come back to haunt us later!" part is also a bit confusing to me. I guess the "haunt us later" bit refers to the fact that in "The Price of the World", Dr. Maddiman attacks Nate again eventually, and if they had remembered meeting him before, they would've been expecting that? Not sure.
However overall these changes are harmless compared to the changes to Dr. Maddiman's lines above, as they don't really change much about the actual "story" of the quest.
In a similar sense, the various changes to Whisper's lines that I haven't gone over yet aren't bad either.
Take for example this change:
Whisper: My! A suspicious yōkai is performing a suspicious experiment! My word! This mad-scientist Yo-kai appears to be performing mad science!
In this case, the line is pretty much exactly the same, except a little “spicing up” of the wording, to make the line seem more interesting in English.
Another example is this change:
Whisper: I... It's just, if you're told not to press something, you just press it anyway, right?!!! Well, I pressed the button. I'd have thought that rather obvious.
It slightly changes the emotion Whisper gives off, but it conveys the same information: Whisper thinks pressing the button is obvious.
Technically, some of the changes do slightly change Whisper's characterization in this quest, if you get really deep into it, but not to a point where it hurts the quest’s story. These are changes, yes, but they are pretty reasonable and/or harmless changes.
Aside from just going through the dialouge and notable changes to the text itself, there are some more things I could go over, so keep reading if you're interested.
First off, while it doesn't really have to do with the text itself, I really want to make note of the huge difference between Hans Full's English and original Japanese voice. You can listen to them both here.
As you can tell, unlike the adult-like, comedic voice Hans Full has in the English version, his Japanese voice is very high-pitched and child-like.
You may prefer either version of course, but I personally feel confused about this change, as they not only kept the lines that essentially liken Hans Full baby, but actually added some more of those... yet they didn't actually have him sound like a baby, like he does in the original? I guess it's possible they didn't like the idea of fighting a giant baby, but I feel if that was the case, they'd also change the dialouge? I don't know maybe they thought it was funny.
I suppose it’s also possible that the change to the voice was made without the quests being taken into consideration.
Aside from his voice, his name is also something I want to go over.
When it comes to his intended name, I don't really understand why they changed it from “Amaterasu” to “Amatera”, but ultimately this is a minor change and not super important. The allusion to the goddess is still there with the name being so similar (though that makes it feel even weirder that they changed it at all).
As for his actual name, “Hans Full” is a really nice way to adapt “Moteamasu” into English, being taken from "to have one's hands full", but, the quest itself doesn't actually feature the context as to why Dr. Maddiman gives it a name like that. It would have been nice if we had gotten a line where Dr. Maddiman says: “I’m going to have my hands full with this one... Guess I should call it ‘Hans Full’...!”, or something along those lines.
Adding to that, while Amaterasu sounds similar to Moteamasu, thus the renaming also being somewhat of a pun, Hans Full sounds nothing like Amatera. These little details make me wonder if maybe the name was adapted without the quest being taken into consideration or something like that, but I can't know for sure, obviously.
I also can't help but wonder is if this text was translated without the translator actually seeing the scene beforehand? Again, I can't be sure, but the reasons I presume this is the following:
When Dr. Maddiman decides on the new name, he visibly does this animation with those lines that indicate a gloomy mood, I don't know what they're called (I'm sure you've seen them in anime before).
Tumblr media
This shows that he is well, gloomy, as he is doing this, which his Japanese text reflects: "This is... not Amaterasu, it is Moteamasu...!". Meanwhile in English, just going by the text alone, it almost seems like he is being more triumphant as he says it: "I shall call it... Hans Full!", which contrasts the animation.
The  overall dialouge in the English version also didn’t give as much of a reason as to why Dr. Maddiman would feel disheartened here.
This is not the only time in this scene where I felt that the English dialouge doesn’t quite match the way the characters are emoting, but this one stood out to me the most.
Another thing that confuses me is this line Dr. Maddiman says in English:
"Truly a fearsome beast… Fortunately, it cannot break free of its birthing tank."
...as, like I stated above, clearly it can break free, it literally does so after it wakes up. That is literally why he doesn't want anyone to push the button in the first place.
The only thing I could maybe think of is that it refers to the fact that Hans Full can’t break free while he is sleeping, but that should go without saying, right?
So, after all this, what is my overall opinion on this localization?
Well, I like it.
I would’ve wished for an adaptation that is slightly closer to the original Japanese version, but the changes aren’t too bad.
Even the ones that I described as “hurting the quest’s overall plot” are not terrible in the gand scheme of things, so I don’t feel like I can’t complain too much.
And changes aside, the English dialouge is fun with a lot of personality still, so it’s really easy to enjoy it regardless.
Also please note that while I made a lot of assumptions like "maybe this translation was done without them actually seeing the scene" and similar stuff, I am not specifically criticizing the localization team for this.
I don't know the situation, I'm no expert on common practices and what is the standard, so for all I know, even if my assumptions are correct, which they could very well not be, it might still be literally normal for a localization to be done in such a manner.
But yeah that's most of what I can say on this little bit of dialouge from this quest, if you've read this to the end, I hope you enjoyed it?

I’m a Survivor (4/??)
MAJOR NDRV3 SPOILERS AHEAD!
Beginning l Previous Word Count (for this part): ~1,200 Relationships: nothing yet. heavily implied Saimatsu (Saihara/Akamatsu) Major Characters (for this part): Saihara, Momota, Harumaki, Shirogane Summary: Whether he remembers it or not, Amami Rantarou is still the Super High School Level Survivor. He’s not dying that easily. (Or, an exploration of what happens if Amami survives both murder attempts and, consequently, Akamatsu doesn’t get executed for killing him)
///
To everyone’s surprise, it isn’t a Monokuma Cub riding an Exisal coming to gun them down.
Instead, it’s Harukawa. And she is livid.
Saihara is almost as terrified of her in that moment as he expected to be of the coming doom. Almost.
Momota gulps before shaking off his gobsmacked expression and trying to diffuse the situation. “Harukawa, listen – about the strategy meeting—”
“You mean the one you planned and dragged everyone into and then blew off? The one we have literally no time for now? That strategy meeting?”
Oh, if looks could kill.
Harukawa wasn’t the most terrifying thing in general that Saihara had ever encountered, but she was by far the most terrifying person. And what’s up with that, his inner detective wondered even as he held his breath in fear of attracting her attention. Harukawa-san’s talent is supposed to be taking care of children. But wouldn’t someone so intimidating scare kids away?
Momota makes a sound like he’s been physically punched by her words – Saihara can’t help but wince in sympathy. Despite the girl’s cutting remarks, though, Momota recovers quickly. “Yeah, I’m sorry about that,” he says. “But that doesn’t matter right now. We have to—”
“Sorry? We’re all going to die, and the best thing you can say is that you’re sorry?” she cuts him off again, looking even more murderous.
Momota makes another pained noise – hang in there, Momota-kun, Saihara thinks. If nothing else, it’ll be over soon – and soldiers on. “Just listen, Harukawa—”
“I figured you were unreliable, but you went above and beyond my expectations.”
“WILL YOU JUST SHUT UP AND LET ME EXPLAIN, ALREADY?!”
Predictably, Momota explodes. More surprising, he does manage to silence Harukawa in the process – though whether it’s because he startled her with the outburst or she’s taking the time to think of something particularly cutting, Saihara couldn’t say. Regardless, she’s still obviously pissed.
Momota pants and huffs, trying to calm down and catch his breath after shouting at the top of his lungs. Shirogane’s timid voice cuts through the silence in the meantime.
“It… should have started by now.”
What?
“Huh?” “What do you mean?”
Akamatsu and Chabashira voice the same confusion he’s feeling.
Shirogane responds, “The mass punishment. The time limit ended at least a minute ago. It should have started by now! What’s going on?”
The bespectacled girl looks genuinely scared and confused as she speaks; her words are innocuous – he, too, had been wondering why nothing had happened yet. Still, Saihara is suspicious. Shirogane had been in the library so close to the end of the time limit, and part of him still believed that had to mean something.
Admittedly, Amami had also been in the library – and to be fair, Saihara still found that guy a bit suspicious too. He hadn’t ruled out either of them as the possible mastermind; he just felt that of the two, Shirogane’s words and actions thus far were more meriting of scrutiny.
It wasn’t necessarily that Saihara didn’t believe coincidences happened, but Shirogane trying to murder the same person with the same weapon as Akamatsu – that thought gave him pause for a moment. Akamatsu, who he’d chosen to believe in above all others, had tried to murder someone. She’d used his own plan to do it. To say it hurt was an understatement. Saihara couldn’t handle that right now; he pushed those painful thoughts to the back of his mind – at the same time was just too many coincidences piling up to be mere chance.
What’s more, he still didn’t quite believe Shirogane had just snuck past down to the basement. She was technically right – it wasn’t impossible that they’d missed her, distracted for one crucial moment, but it was just one more coincidence to the pile, making it that much harder to swallow.
Caught up in his thoughts, Saihara says nothing. Instead, Akamatsu jumps in. “Maybe… it was a bluff? This whole time, Monokuma was lying to us about the time limit, in which case nothing bad’ll happen? That could be the case, right?” The hopeful tone of her voice is impossible to miss. “Right, Saihara-kun?”
He can’t stop himself from flinching. Please, don’t look at me. Don’t direct your attention at me. Not right now, when I can’t bring myself to look back at you.
He doesn’t hate Akamatsu; he’s not sure it’s possible for him to hate her. But now, in hindsight, he realizes he’s been admiring her and putting her on a pedestal when he doesn’t really know her. He already knows her motives and reasons for her actions were pure – she’s still a good person – but… It’s just difficult to reconcile the girl he’d convinced himself she was with the girl she might actually be, even if neither are necessarily bad, and he needs more time to do that.
Time he doesn’t have at the moment.
Saihara says nothing, and pretends he can’t feel the hurt rolling off of her in waves. Instead, Amami is the one to respond. “Somehow, I doubt it,” he says, eyes trailing to the monitor in the room. “I definitely got the impression Monokuma wasn’t lying.”
And indeed, he’s right. As if the bear in question were waiting for someone to acknowledge him (which wouldn’t be out of character, really), all the monitors in the school blink back to life, projecting his smug face.
“Good evening, everyone! It is now ten p.m.” The bear paused and gave a toothy smile. “…Well, 10:02, to be precise. That means it is officially nighttime.”
“Who gives a shit about that?!” Momota shouted at the screen. “What’s gonna happen now, dammit?!”
“Calm down, Momota-kun,” Saihara advised. After all, there’s probably a reason Monokuma himself is giving the nighttime announcement rather than his children.
Oblivious to – or more likely fully aware and loving every second of it – the suffering of the people watching, Monokuma continued the broadcast. “Now that it’s nighttime, your two day time limit has ended, and that means it’s time for the main – or should I say maim – event!”
With the exception of Harukawa, everyone in the library flinched. Saihara balled his fists and looked away. So this is it, after all. Monokuma just wanted to drag it out a few extra minutes and announce our impending slaughter.
“What’s the main event, you might ask? Welllllllll…” the bear drags the word out as the tension builds, “…nothing! That’s right, now that time’s run out, you bastards have absolutely nothing to worry about!”
The tension snaps, and suddenly everyone’s talking at once. Saihara can barely pick apart all the voices.
“Wait, what?” Shirogane. “Seriously?!” Momota. “Uwahh, Tenko’s so relieved!” Chabashira, obviously. “We’re really okay?” Akamatsu. “Was the bear really bluffing, after all?” Harukawa. “…That’s not it. It can’t be this simple.” Amami.
“Of course,” Monokuma’s voice rings out over the monitor, silencing the chatter, “that’s only because what everyone’s been waiting for has finally happened! I’m definitely not the kind of bear that goes back on my word – it’s just no longer necessary!”
Oh, no. As quickly as it had gone, the dread comes crashing back into his gut. Does that mean…
“That’s right, people! Someone bit the dust! The killing game has finally begun!”
///
(This part’s shorter than the previous ones, but I felt like it was a good stopping point. After all, a body has been discovered! ...not really, but someone’s been bodied, at least. I’m having a hard time writing these scenes with five or more people. I feel like a lot of times two or three people have the floor and everyone else is standing around in silence awkwardly. I can’t wait for the investigation to begin, so people are branching off into smaller groups. On the other hand, the trial’s gonna kick my ass.
Also, Saimatsu continues to be an angst train - what else is new. But really, too much angst? Too little? Just enough? I’m looking for feedback here. Regardless, they’ll be separating soon so the angst won’t be as in your face. That said, they won’t have time to really DEAL with it until after the first trial, so it’ll be a while yet before they fix things. In the next part, you can look forward to everyone FINALLY leaving the library as they go searching for a dead person. And I think that’ll get me to about halfway through chapter two, so at that point I’ll put the full chapter one on AO3)

oh, sweetheart, I’m sorry you’re having a tough time ): I understand the pressure you’re feeling; I went through the same thing myself. I know parents just want the best for their child, but it’s still incredibly difficult, especially with the generation gap and when you don’t want to disappoint them. But you’re very smart, lovebug! You received one of the highest scores in your class for english!!! that’s such an incredible skill to have: to be fluent in multiple languages 💗 if there’s any way I can help, please don’t hesitate to tell me 🤍 and regardless of how you do on your entrance exam, I’m very proud of you for everything you’ve accomplished so far, and I hope you give yourself more credit! 💛 You’ve come so far already. However, your mental health is most important, so please don’t push yourself too hard if you don’t feel up for studying. If you would like to study though, it helps to break up your studying by chapter or take a five minute break every thirty minutes. Stand up and stretch, close your eyes and listen to your favorite song, etc. I’m sending you all my love and support, honey bee, and I hope you’re feeling better today 💚🌷
