Piracy is preservation, and authors would rather have their books in front of people who can't access many books for free instead of looking those people in the eye and saying "fork over your month's earnings"
Shut up
To be clear, I'm not against Piracy in general. In fact I'm not only an advocate, I'm a prolific pirate myself.
I'm sure you can find a handful of authors who feel that way, but those I know personally (one indie author and one traditionally published) as well as those I've seen comment on the issue are adamant that piracy has caused them significant personal harm.
They'd far rather people who can't afford their books use libraries to access them or, if the libraries they have access too don't carry the book(d), they'd rather people reach out to them personally to arrange for a copy within their budget (sometimes including for free).
Pirating books is not the same as pirating movies. It's the difference between attacking a Spanish galleon and a fishing sloop.
Bigger names like Brandon Sanderson, Steven King, Diana Gabaldon, etc have a entire fleet of sloops and are unlikely to miss a couple going missing, but the less famous (and thus less highly paid) authors can have their entire career ruined by their book being pirated. It can even prevent them from getting offered another book deal, meaning there won't be any more books by that author for you to read.
We aren't entitled to the intellectual property of others. Full stop.
If the author wanted their book to be free, they'd have made it freely available (as some do!). Maybe if everyone had a universal basic income that covered the cost of living we'd see more art available at no cost, but as it stands artists need to make a living too and that means they need to earn a profit to survive. If they can't do that with their art they have to find another way to do it which means less time and energy to make art.
Not to mention the advance an author gets is usual peanuts, and unlike actors who get paid by the time the movie is out, an advance isn't a wage and if the author doesn't sell enough books they have to give back whatever amount of the advance the sale of their books didn't cover. If they get a $5000 advance and only sell $3000 worth of books they owe the publisher $2000.
Again, I'm not against piracy. I am against harming individual artists to the point where it significantly impacts their career. I want more art in this world.
I'm also not telling people they can't, or shouldn't pirate books. I'm against it but I'm not trying to for e others to believe the same as me. I'm providing information so people can make a more informed decision and better understand the consequences of their choices.
So do what you will with the info I've provided. Just be willing to acknowledge the harm you cause with those choices. Even the piracy I take part in causes harm on a smaller scale.
I have no argument against "I don't care, I'm doing it anyway" and I won't bother trying to argue it.
#piracy#not all pirates are created equal#my ethical code is based in harm reduction#if you are so hard up for reading material of any sort#that you need to resort to piracy to avoid harm#and that harm you avoid is less than what the piracy causes the author#then by all means#I'm sure that situation exists#but in most cases of book piracy#I don't believe that's what's going on

Crocodad AU where immidiately after having left Dragon and his baby boy Crocodile finds an 11 year old Robin. And while he's 100% only recruiting her so they can make a beeline for the Poneglyph and Pluton in Alabasta by the two of them... Crocodile accidentally sorta kinda adopts Robin.
At this point Robin's been running for her life from the Government for three years so her deep trust issues and fear of betrayal are starting to take root in her little heart. Like perhaps they haven't taken fully over yet, and being still a child I'm sure Robin might've still had that genuine hope that she could find a safe place to stay in. But I'm sure the though of "what'll he'll do with me once he gets what he wants?" would be nagging at her at the back of her mind. Meanwhile Crocodile's struggling between the pain and hurt he's already gone through and given him his trademark trust issues, as well as the aftermath of The Dragodile Divorce. But he also has his Fresh Paternal Instincts and probably misses his baby. So when given a small, scared child who is running for her life, being chased by the very same Government that'll want his son dead if they ever find out about him... Yeah that might fuck with your brain a little
You know this post was supposed to be just that first paragraph and just a few footnotes from the following two paragraphs. And then I kept on Having Thoughts. And I kept on writing them down. And oh no what happened when did this post get so long (Look I was going to either kept on writing my Additional Thoughts in the tags or I just put them in the actual fucking post)
Like considder this: based on this one SBS, we can kinda tell that if Crocodile was given a chance to raise a child, that child would be a spoiled little shit, right

So in this scenario, where Crocodile's looking after lil Robin, would he be kind of torn? Unsure how to feel about her?
Because on one hand, this strange child would have the potential to not only ruin his plans, strip him of his Shichibukai Privileges by outing him and his plans to the World Government, but also put his son in grave danger by extension (if she found out about him having been involved with the Revolutionaries and/or having a child). But on the other hand, his paternal instincts could make him want to spoil this poor little girl rotten. But only because he needs to (perhaps literally) buy her trust so she'll behave. No other reason, he doesn't feel sorry for her one bit, no sirree. (But maybe he did feel sorry for her, since his son could very well end up exactly like her. Poor little thing) (Which is why he needs to nuke Marijoa out of orbit as soon as possible, no matter the cost, and this child can't get in the way of Crocodile protecting his son) (But also this is a child. Like how bad could she be. Besides all he really needs to do to win her trust is be nice and make her feel safe, right?)
Of course, while I'm suggesting Crocodile could have some parental instincts, realistically, he hasn't actually spent any time being, you know, a father to a child (looking after his newborn for an unknown though short amount of time aside), so it's possible he wouldn't even know how to parent Robin even if he wanted to, would he? (Like taking care of a newborn and an 11 year old kid aren't the same either) So if he was kind of just emotionally flipflopping between No Trusting Ever and It's Just A Kid for God's Sake, Crocodile trying to be nice to Robin to make her feel safe and then telling himself to stop being so soft and vunerable... Yeah that would make for an absolute mess of a relationship. (Not to mention, let's be real, dude's a scary motherfucker too, and a bloody giant compared to itty bitty baby Robin. He could keep on accidentally scaring the shit out of Robin (who would be On Fucking Edge To Begin With) by just Being Himself. Like for example, can you fucking imagine if he caught Robin trying to cheer herself up with a little "dereshishishi" only to tell her to stop because "it was stupid"? 'Cause I can imagine him doing that, and boy howdy would that make Robin feel bad)
Or who knows, maybe Crocodile was just Born To Be A Dad, maybe he just Fucking Gets It. Like Crocodile is canonically pretty good at manipulating people to do what he wants them to do (see: how he played Vivi like a fiddle), so knowing Robin's position and understanding how she feels, maybe he COULD completely nail how she needed to be treated. Not being too familiar but still making her feel safe and happy, knowing exactly when to be stern and when to spoil her, etc. Dude just goes off and wins the Dad of the Year Award while being a deadbeat dad himself. The only thing Crocodile would have to worry about then would be making sure HE doesn't get too fond of her. And certainly that could never happen, he's so in-touch with his own feelings and so grounded, he's not a softie, get outta here. Or maybe he does but never realizes until it's too late and good luck backpedalling on those emotions now dumbass
Alright so, the reason I went on that whole rmble is just that like. I'm so interested in the relationship Robin and Crocodile already have in canon. I'm so facinated and curious about how the two feel about each other, considdering they did spend 4 whole years of their lives together as criminal business partners, though neither ever trusted the other. A partnership that was only ended because Robin betrayed Crocodile, out of her own trauma. (God, I want to see these two "reunite" so bad, I want to know how they feel about each other now after the timeskip and Robin joining the idiot in flipflops who foiled Croc's plans)
My question here is just that... if they had met 13 years earlier, would things have been different? Especially if Crocodad Real? Because as I mentioned in the begining, Robin would've been on the run for only 3 years by this point, as opposed to 16 years before running into Crocodile. Simultaneously, this would be before Crocodile went onto spend an entire decade all alone, slowly losing his marbles in his emotional solitude. They'd both be emotionally traumatized, yes, but would it have been as bad in this scenario? Like I did start this post kind of joking about Crocodile adopting Robin, and for clarity's sake I don't think they'd have like a father-daughter relationship nececarily. But it would be a strange relationship still, because we'd have two broken people, both struggling to trust anyone. One who had lost her mother and her only friends, leaving her all alone and afraid while running for her life. The other a father who had just given up his son whom he probably missed dearly. Both having these holes in their hearts from loss of family, holes that could not be filled with replacements. But could they find comfort in each other anyway, because they still as people occupy similar roles to their respective loved ones? If they both could just get over those trust issues?
Okay I've been going off on the Emotional Side Of Things for this AU Concept, THERE'S PLOT TOO
So if Crocodile did pick Robin up like 19 years ago, that should be before he set up base in Alabasta, long before he had built is homebase and financial empire etc.
Now the thing is, while we don't know when, where and how Crocodile learned about the Ancient Weapons, Pluton specifically and how the lead on it would be in Alabasta... Considdering Crocodile did once upon a time aim to become Pirate King, it would make perfect sense if he had learned about Poneglyphs during his past adventures, as he would have needed to get the Road Poneglyphs to find One Piece. And while the World Government did bury the truth about why Ohara had been burned down and why Robin had been given her bounty (remember, the WG claimed it was because she had sunken a fleet of battleships, which she had not, it was because she could read the Poneglyphs), considdering this is a Crocodad AU specifically, you could totally make an argument Crocodile could've learned about what actually happened to Ohara from Dragon and co. So, just to make this AU work, you could just assume Crocodile learned about the concept of the Ancient Weapons from Dragon. And who knows, maybe he overheard the truth about why Robin had been given her bounty from Dragon too (maybe Dragon was able to get intel from Garp in secret) or while going to Marijoa himself to attend a Shichibukai meeting or something IDK.
Maybe he learned about Pluton being in Alabasta before finding Robin by accident, and maybe they made a beeline for Alabasta the second Croc recruited Robin. Travelling takes time and the guy would've most likely had to find an Eternal Pose to Alabasta just to get there (also canonically Robin didn't enter the Grand Line until her 20s so they should've met in West Blue probably, since that's where Ohara was) Or maybe Crocodile had to haul Robin around for a few months while looking for That Missing Piece of Information that would lead him to Alabasta. (Imagine the two travelling from like island to island, library to library, Crocodile trying to find that leads while Robin's just so excited about ALL THESE BOOKS (she's helping too with the research) (but to her, research is playtime, so she's just having the time of her life) (Also, notice how Crocodile's Theoretical Child is a fucking loser ass nerd? Yeah Crocodile would encourage Robin reading and studying, surely. And that would be fucking cute))
But like, once they set sail to Alabasta...
Sure, Crocodile could try to do it The Slow Way that we know he tried in canon, building trust and creating his little empire etc. But also, in canon, Crocodile couldn't have jumped into action head first because without Robin, even if he had found the Poneglyph he couldn't have read it and found the location of Pluton. Crocodile choosing to do it the slow way may have been partially because he didn't have much of a choise and it could've felt like the smarter move long-term.
But in this scenario, he already has Robin. Yes, he could do it the slow, secure way.
But what'd be there stopping him from infiltrating Cobra's palace and kidnapping him (in the night, when nobody suspects a thing), demanding Cobra to spill the beans lest Crocodile kills him and/or his pregnant wife* (*Vivi was born 10 months after Luffy so depending on how long it's been between Crocodad leaving Luffy behind and this scenario... Yeah either the wife is there, still pregnant, or there's a newborn Baby Vivi)
Like it'd be a risky move but depending on how ballsy Croc's feeling and how confident he feels in being able to kidnap the king without being noticed... Yeah he could probably do it. And I'm sure he'd have no problem killing Cobra either, if anything it'd be required if he didn't want the Government to find out he was out to find Pluton, and god knows Cobra would tell on Crocodile if left alive. I could see Crocodad being maybe a little iffy about killing Baby Vivi though (it's not like the newborn baby could report him to the WG anyways), but if nothing else, he just needs to be able to pull off the bluff of his life to convince Cobra to do as he's told. And we all know Crocodile's good at convincing people.
The only question is, how would Robin take that?
Watching Crocodile go into Full Murder Mode, hearing him say he'd kill a pregnant woman/a newborn baby if he didn't get what he wanted? Like yeah, I'm sure 11 year old Robin would be fine with that, that wouldn't make any alarm bells go off in her head at all, it'd be fiiiine. IT WOULD NOT BE FINE, SHE'D BE SCARED SHITLESS. That fear of "what will he do with me when he gets what he wants"? Well, Robin may not have found the answer to that question in particular, but she certainly found the answer to the opposite question, and it's not good
So say Cobra, kidnapped (perhaps with Baby Vivi) by Crocodile in the night, guides the two to the Poneglyph under the tombs. Crocodile puts Cobra out of his misery because he's not needed anymore. And he asks Robin to read the Poneglyph for him.
Robin, who has spent the last little while, be it weeks or months with Crocodile, him having become her "guardian", the thing keeping her safe. Crocodile, who has now shown how cold blooded and cruel he can be. Robin, who might be scared out of her mind. Of him.
And the Poneglyph says Pluton, the thing Crocodile wants, isn't there. It's in Wano.
What's she going to do?
EDIT: I wrote a sequel post, enjoy
#Moon posting#OP Meta#Sir Crocodile#Crocodad#Nico Robin#THIS POST WAS AN ACCIDENT. I DON'T KNOW HOW THIS HAPPENED. WHY DID I WRITE THIS. WHAT DEMON POSSESSED ME#I'm sure someone's written this already right#Right#Surely this fanfic already exists#Please tell me it exists#I dunno what to tell you I am not immune to a Juicy AU#Anyway on a more wholesome side of things: Robin accidentally calling Crocodile ''dad'' and he just inhales and swallows his whole cigar#Nearly chockes to death. Gets burns on his throat.#Robin feeling less alienated because of her DF ability because Croc has seen weirder AND is made of sand himself#If anything if they're literally by themselves then Robin being able to literally lend a hand to Croc at any time could be extremely useful#Like. In regular life situations. 'Cause Croc only has one hand. And Robin as many as she wants. Perfect duo.#(Also if they were travelling on like a small ship then it'd probably be built for a Tall Motherfucker like Croc right)#(Robin's ability would just make the ship more accessible to her and Croc would find that independence good)#Robin still gets a codename because Croc can't have anyone realize who she is. Maybe she even wears like a mask or summin' in public#If Crocodile's openly trans and the news of him transitioning recently broke out. Like. No avoiding that convo eh#Baby Robin's like ''...I read in a book once that some reptiles can change sex but I didn't know crocodiles could do it too''#''💦.../Humans/ can't do that normally either''#''Hmmmm. Weird. I don't think being a girl would suit you though'' // ''...I'll take that as a compliment''#I just. I think they could have really cute interactions if they warmed up to each other after a little while#And I'm Extremely Normal about that

Going on a walk with Phainon is either very fun or very annoying depending on the kind of person you are. He probably has acquaintances everywhere in Okhema and has to stop every 10 meters to greet people, catch up with them or help someone in distress. Excellent opportunity to make new friends if you're that kind of person and an extreme inconvenience if you're not :I
#no one said being a hero is easy job and phainon is like. the kinda guy that willingly gets into situations️#but at least i'm sure he'll prioritize taking more secluded roads if you tell him you're uncomfortable#he's decently attentive but communication is still important#... said like phainon actually exists and you can go on dates with him ☠️#phainon#phainon brainrot#phainon x reader#hsr x reader

I intended for the post these tags are on to be the last thing I say about fandom misogyny for a While because I felt like I covered everything already but oh my god YES I agree So hard
In general, while I do think Princess/TLQ are permanent partners, they're also not...human. they certainly act human, but they don't carry the same societal baggage that we get saddled either by virtue of being born surrounded by other humans.
And then "marriage" as a concept is one that is so vastly different in so many cultures and time periods, and at least for the kinds of marriages I'm familiar with, there are a Lot of benefits for abusive partners and Especially men to obtain legal and financial power over their partner through marriage. Like, so much of marriage, on top of its symbolic and romantic value, is also its legal and financial ones, as well as social positioning/maneuvering-"wife" carries more weight than "girlfriend", serves as a status symbol. I don't think the Princess and TLQ would really care for that.
HEA doesn't touch on the complicated socioeconomic issues that come with marriage, especially traditional/heterosexual marriage, but it does touch on so much of the domestic unhappiness that comes with it, especially in regards to how you, the player, and the Smitten keep her in this unhappy, stale situation she's Supposed to be happy with. Opportunist even calls her "our queenly wife."
So like on top of marriage being a distinctly human construct/invention I'm not sure those two would vibe with when they can literally merge their souls together at any given moment. HEA in particular would fucking hate it. She's already Been trapped with a partner in a situation all too similar to the Traditional marriage. I could see arguments for other princesses. for a modern-AU Prisoner using marriage for tax benefits and secretly being delighted when she signs the papers, for Tower or Nightmare to make the player legally her pet in a similar fashion, for the Wounded Wild to accept it...
Never HEA. And yet the majority of StP marriage content is HEA, because she's their favorite and she's wife. Never mind how much she hated it. Never mind that her whole route is about how much she hated it. She's wife! We love her! She loves us! Of course she'd marry us, there's no other option! We HAVE to symbolically own her and tie her to us forever! Right???
#it's ridiculous.#to be clear marriage is insanely important and good in a lot of cases#people fought for gay marriage precisely because not having those legal/financial benefits was a huge fucking problem#especially when their partners died or were in medical emergencies.#but i think it's really irresponsible to act as though it can't also have HUGE drawbacks#ESPECIALLY a traditionally-structured marriage#as an institution it partially exists so a partner of a certain gender can legally own another.#this has changed a LOT in recent years but it is fairly recent (historically speaking) and still is used that way in a lot of cases.#and i'm not trying to undermine the symbolic and romantic value either#but i don't think a piece of paper or label defines a romantic relationship Especially the one on the level of TLQ and Princess's.#and for princesses like Thorn and HEA while i def relate with loving the shit out of the princess n wanting to wife her#and be her wife and her husband and have her be your wife and love her love her love her forever.#...i don't think Marriage specifically Is the way to love them forever.#the sheer level of trust issues with Thorn + HEA's EVERYTHING is like. i don't think they'd go through with it.#i think it'd give them a lot of anxiety and make them miserable.#BUT THEYRE LOVE INTEREST. SO THEY MUST BE MARRIED.#never mind that they can have a Just as serious and valuable relationship without it.#and it IS misogynist it plays into the idea that This is how a relationship between a man and woman is Supposed to be#you are Supposed to be married to fulfill the ''role'' of a wife#and when u think about what the Role of a wife in marriage is...#like. ugh. sometimes i wonder if the people who love HEA actually love HEA the princess#or if they just love the whole little narrative of leaving a miserable situation and dancing with their cute sad wife.#because i'm not sure people even really get why she's so miserable in the first place.

Next, it's your turn.

If I had a nickel for every time a popular genderless/neutral toku character is always called a woman by the fans bc of how they perceive the actors despite being confirmed by direct sources that they're neither male or female, I'd have 2 nickels.
Which isn't a lot but it fucking sucks that it happened twice.

I like Batman. I like Batman as a character. I like Bruce Wayne. But it is very unserious when people act like Jason Todd, or maybe Damian, the robins as a whole, or any one writer, or any specific story arc, is singlehandedly corrupting Bruce’s character into an severe and inflexible colleague and distant, emotionally-unavailable father. Because even if he hadn't consistently been a questionable, loving yet unhealthy AT BEST father figure in the majority of his appearances since the early 80s (and I do mean to Dick, to Cass (actually shaping her into his image in Batgirl 2000 at the cost of her social development and autonomy ISNT good,) a BAD mentor to Steph, not even getting into Helena, like truly it’s not all about Jason?) The first well-written book that comes to mind where his morality is at its worst imo? That’s Wonder Woman: Hiketeia. No robins, no batfamily, just Bruce putting aside Wonder Woman’s input and the context of the situation and chasing down a girl who killed the men responsible for trafficking, assaulting, and killing her baby sister, to the point where it ends with her jumping off a cliff.
And the thing is I still like reading him in Hiketeia, because he fills the role he needs to fill in that story well, his actions align with his wordview even if it’s taken to the extreme in an uncharitable way, and he keeps my attention. I just think it’s goofy how some of us on here look at the guy who’s big character trait is being a hard-to-know, stubborn, and condescending control freak who puts other people's emotions on the wayside in favor of his mission prolifically, and go “all he did was LOVE TOO MUCH! His mean kids and associates and teammates are PUNISHING HIM for LOVING with his BIG BIG HEART and it’s tainting the narrative!” And you could say “well Hiketeia doesn't count, Greg Rucka is just a hater!” (though I certainly wouldn’t.) But when the issue is Damian entertaining the idea of leaving the family business, and before that it’s Red Hood stepping on toes, and then, wait, before that it’s Green Arrow and Wonder Woman, and then Huntress, and then oh wait we can’t think about the weird patch with Nightwing where their relationship was super rocky, and then Jason but before he died, and of course the Green Lanterns are basically treated like punching bags for him to do something awesome then- Like maybe if it’s a consistent pattern spanning what, 20, 30 years now? The issue isn’t Damian or Red Hood alone, or PKJ or Greg Rucka or Judd Winick or Marv Wolfman + George Perez or even Jim Starlin being a hater, but your blorbo just having extremely well-documented character flaws?
#Batman already has to be the strongest and smartest and most powerful at the cost of other characters getting shafted to a comical extent#and now he's the kindest and the sweetest and the most understanding and the biggest heart in the whole wide world too?#why's it character regression for Damian + Jason when they get into the same 20 year old fights w/ Bruce but not character stagnancy for hi#it's okay for him to stick to his guns at the cost of everyone around him but for them it's regression to not fold to his will everytime?#ok#yeah sure#some of you are so devoted to the character Batman (man who dresses up as a bat) being right forever and ever#that you're starting to use actually unbelievable justifications to defend his name in every possible situation#“it doesn't count that he punched Dick in the face he was just in a really bad emotional place!”#“he's such a cute girldad to Batgirl! I love when he tries to get her to live her life underground unable to leave for fear of the FBI”#batman has never wronged ANYONE! and don't say prioritizing catching the Joker over his runaway presumed-suicidal kid son#or blaming Dick for Jason's death or trying to sacrifice Cass's chance at a public identity so she can be his soldier full time or Steph#or Helena or making an effort to isolate every one of his kids from their peers (he's overprotective daddy uwu) or#or letting multiple women die in favor of their assaulters or firing Dick in the first place or going out of his way to PROTECT the Joker#“Jason's the only problem child who makes him act like this” so I am excluding every thing he did wrong to RH Jason to humor that bs#this isn't even about Jason the ever-understanding version of Bruce you imagine simply does not exist outside of maybe DCAU cartoons!#dc comics#I'm not tagging this as Bruce for obvious reasons but I'm not anti Bruce for real#and I'm not saying “urrrrgh Batman hitting his kids is fine actually”#I'm saying “Batman would NEVER! He kisses them tenderly on the forehead every night and reassures them he loves them” is just so untrue#just saw something tagged with “bruce wayne critical” which feels much more accurate than “anti bruce wayne” so I'll use that!#bruce wayne critical#I'm not anti him this is just kinda unflattering commentary on how we interpret his character sometimes

"Administratively, too, [...] queens were considered the legal lords of their landholdings. [...] Grants noted that the queen's officials had administrative autonomy without being subject to the king or anyone else, and evidence of the same assumption can be gleaned from court rolls that were recorded with headings indicating the lord of the manor whose court proceedings were being enrolled. As an example, some court rolls for the manor of Haveringatte-Bower specified that it was the court of [Margaret of Anjou] that was in session, while later rolls recorded Elizabeth Woodville as the lord of the manor court."
— Michele Seah, "My Lady Queen, the Lord of the Manor': The Economic Roles of Late Medieval Queens", Parergon, Volume 37, Number 2, 2020.
#queenship tag#margaret of anjou#elizabeth woodville#I really appreciated how Seah acknowledged the uneven surviving evidence for her subjects and how that affects her analysis.#It was very brief but it was more than what most historians do so it was very refreshing :)#my post#english history#this is for @ anon who asked if its true that Margaret mostly hosted her own courts while EW mostly stayed with her husband#I'm not sure which (if any) historian has said something like this* but I highly doubt it's true !#We don't really have solid itineraries in place for either queen to make any kind of firm conclusions of the sort#(ie: about their residences or anything else) though I'm sure it would have varied depending on the situation#But either way it's explicitly clear that both Margaret and Elizabeth held their own courts in their own lands on multiple occasions#And we also have evidence of both of them residing with their husbands in regular circumstances#*tbh this is too long to get into right now but this assumption does fit into the few 'revisionist' interpretations of both Margaret and EW#(which imo is just as degrading as her traditional interpretation for the latter) so I wouldn't be surprised if some#historians may have framed their situations in such a way and relied entirely on their own assumptions to do so#Either way as far as I know there is no evidence of any such contrast existing - at least not on a consistent basis.#and the evidence we do have contradicts the assumption#Hope this helps! I figured a proper excerpt from this article would clarify the point better than any direct answer from me <3#queue

nothing ever excites me more than a spontaneous genshin, or more particularly, mondstadt discovery. i sat diluc upon the barbatos statue as a nice spot to go afk on without being interrupted by repetitive idle animations and voicelines (sorry diluc, this is nothing personal). my volume was turned up more than regularly by accident, and my in-game music was off despite how much i like the original game soundtrack. aNYHOW- i was about to go afk when i heard some strange noises that i didn't recall hearing in mondt before. it made me pause and turn my volume up even more. in the video above, it's kind of hard to discern the brief sounds over the noise of the wind up on the statue and in mondstadt in general, but when the wind dies down a little, you can distinctly hear voices of people, and what shocked me the most – neighs of horses. i have no clue whether it is just me discovering this only now, after 4 years of playing this godforsaken game and clearly not having paid enough attention to mondstadt's sfx before, but i still felt the need to share this terribly interesting tidbit in case there's other clueless mondstadt enthusiasts like me.
#what makes me so curious about these sfx is my inability to discern the meaning behind them#the sounds in the clip can only be heard during the night‚ which inserts various questions into my head#first and foremost‚ the sounds obviously confirm the existence of horses in mondstadt. the horses that AREN'T THERE in the current timeline#the horses that PHYSICALLY have no space for them within the city‚ but that's a problem of a different kind that i want to touch upon later#what makes their situation even more curious is that they're only heard during the night‚ with no trace of them during the day#so‚ my question is – surely they wouldn't add this specific sound if they didn't plan on introducing the horses in-game at some point?#even if there was no mentions of horses in genshin whatsoever‚ except in the manga which is set prior to the game's events#aka the timeline before the beginning or during the early stages of varka's expedition considering seamus's presence in mondstadt#and if that is so‚ is the peculiar activity of horses only at night a result of them being out of the city alongside the kof during the day#next curious thing to me are the voices and shouts‚ most likely in chinese‚ that i cannot discern and that i found nothing about online yet#however‚ in my opinion‚ the shouts seem too loud for the peaceful‚ post-stormterror crisis atmosphere of mondstadt#most of the words sound as if they're spoken through a megaphone‚ repeatedly‚ like call-outs to something or somebody#and not at all like shouts of people‚ regular citizens‚ from within their homes‚ or those of random drunkards on the streets at night#during daytime‚ the chatter is more coherent and distinctly chinese‚ words they clearly didn't bother translating to other voice-overs#another random and interesting sound is of something akin to a bell chiming‚ and i don't mean the big church bell tolling like in the clip#i am eager for feedback on this‚ for any sort of help or translation to sate my curiosity#and i'm also very much open to ideas or even random interpretations as i am overflowing with them‚ too#mondstadt#old mondstadt#genshin impact#genshin brainrot#genshin headcanon#genshin ost#genshin help#wilhelminaesque

Louis does see Armand for all his flaws, and yet still chooses him, and loves him, but when he sees them for what they really were, and really entailed, he no longer can. Oh, gradations of evil. Louis had in ways bought into it.
#contriversial?#Like you can't deny Louis knew Armand to be a liar manipulator a disciplinarian betrayer and a threat among other things#He knows him and Claudia are at odds with each other#You might ask why then would he not turn the other way and run? And well cause Louis is tired of looking and feeling weak and Armand#where he isn't flawed offered him all this power as flimsy and dangerously able to be undermined as it may be#and he offers a place for him to have a connection he fears he would otherwise never have again in his everlasting existence#Suppose then Armand is the lesser of two evils#I feel too that since Louis views himself as deeply flawed and deeply capable of the same things that they are both#beings of evil as they are vampires and so on#to go about judging it so strongly that you deny any sort of connection you could have in another would really be to deny himself of#all he wants and needs and desires which gets at a point of him of his inner felt weaknesses of denying himself and being subjugated#away from being able to obtain such things without opposition or other forces#Armand is flawed in that he is a force but Louis sees to the potential of him being genuine in his devotions to him as#capable of quelling this entirely. To have Armand be 'his' is to finally control what has long been out of his control.#It's... more complicated than this surely but surface level Louis does choose armand and loves him but#it's always layered with an amount of false pretense and illusions of deeper trust#If you're whole vampire community is assholes who would either want to die or kill you you might as well choose the one who won't do either#at least by all impressions#and who you find very attractive physically and intellectually and who finds you attractive too and who happens to be good in bed#and into the same sex things you're into and curious about#Who you contentiously just get and who gets you back even if you would never really see eye to eye because you know a specific kind of pain#still knowing you relate to them somehow even if you can't see to their perspective#I am rambling now but this ship gets me ....#Feel similarly about why Louis would apologize to lestat - he feels put down to not own up to his part in all of it and he feels more in#control over his situation and his sense of self to simply admit this than to pretend like he was an absent player#He doesn't agree now with how he acted back then and in a way this is his way of admitting to he can move past that he is that person still#which he isn't in any sense still that person#Do I ... fully agreeeeee??? no. Do I get it? yeeah.#It's an autonomy thing really like I'm also not going to say he can't if it genuinely doesn't harm him to I guess.#Not like he's fully forgiving and forgetting here either he's just owning some shared responsibility esp. on part of Claudia

So, I've recently been attempting to learn Japanese, and one cool detail I noticed that probably everyone else already knows is that in Given, it's decided to change the band's name from "the seasons" to "given". Even tho it is stated that they also wanna change it because loads of other bands have similar names and because it was chosen before Mafuyu had joined, it is mentioned that it was a thing because all Haruki's, Ue's and Kagi's name have an element that references a season. So, Kagi's given name is Akihiko, and "aki" means autumn; Haruki's name has "haru", which means spring; Uenoyama's name means "the first day of summer".
Now, what I find really interesting is that, even tho the decide to change the name partly because Mafuyu wouldn't be included, Mafuyu's name also checks the boxes, since it contains the "fuyu", which means "winter" . So, had they kept the name, not only would they all have checked the "name after a season box", but they all would be representing a different one, and they'd cover all of them.
Again, I'm pretty sure loads of other people had noticed this before and I'm super late, but I thought it was worthy mentioned because I find it funny that they went through all the trouble of finding a new name even tho the one the already had was actually perfectly suited.
#random midnight thoughts#Everyone already knows Yuki means snow#You know how snow is contained inside of winter the way#Like you could have winter without snow but not snow without winter#If it weren't for fucking climate change#Just how Mafuyu has to exist without Yuki now#given anime#given manga#uenoyama ritsuka#mafuyu sato#haruki nakayama#akihiko kaji#uenoyama x mafuyu#fuyu no hanashi#Also I'm pretty sure Ugetsu's name has the rain kanji on it#i might be wrong#Pretty new to the whole learning Japanese situation

Kamen Rider got me interested because of all the cool and attractive Suits, but from what I've seen (which was only your art) it seems like 99% of the tike they're just regular highschool kids
the freshly-started current series (Gotchard) is about a school and high schooler characters, but ironically they're usually not teenagers, they're almost always adults! usually with jobs that lead to Dramatic and Interesting happenings (or at least to many a shenanigan and/or hijink). occasionally one of the non-main riders will be younger, but the last time it centered on a plucky teen was Zi-O in 2018/19, and then 2011/12 before that with Fourze. (I was going to say Gaim, but apparently Kouta is supposed to be 20 and the other characters range from like 16 to 40, so. just all over the place there.)
the last few years have given us a failed stand-up comedian who abruptly becomes CEO of a giant robotics company (Zero-One), a fantasy author/bookshop owner who's really bad at actually finishing any of his books (Saber), a bath house worker possessed by a snarky demon (Revice), and...whatever the heck Ace was in Geats (I guess technically his profession is "celebrity", but it's really more "guy who gets to make a magic world-altering genie wish every few months and basically lives off of that"). so they're usually not high school kids, but they are always huge dorks. 👍
#children's shows are serious business#my point was better before i remembered that zi-o existed :')#and TO BE FAIR they weren't exactly regular high school kids in that show. two of them were incognito time travelers and sougo was...sougo.#addendum: okay in ghost takeru was 18? but he was also a ghost and i'm not sure what his whole school situation actually was.#it was complicated let's leave it at that#although if ghost had been about a spooky afterlife school where takeru had to go and learn how to be a ghost that would have been AMAZING#kamen rider and the ghoul school yes please

it is pretty sweet when I can feel reasonably confident that if my tests pass then my code will also work correctly when run
#yes this is notable. don't ask. with my previous client (a) had no integration tests and didn't expect you to spend time writing any#(b) one could reasonably expect SAP to do something incomprehensible they didn't tell us about. in uh. most situations#so far on the new one I have been dealing with well-documented external services#I'm rewriting a lot of things for migration#but the existing logic has been there for a long time they're not constantly updating it#these guys apparently just did not have tests at all before though. what's up with that. but I get to do it now and I did a good job lol#shoutout to copilot for making that much less painful writing mock data is so tedious#but feels good.#and is also a great deal less annoying than having to run it every time and do experiments on sap.#m#work shit#programming#me to project manager when shit breaks again: shouldn't the sap/salesforce/poob guys have tested this why are WE investigating it#the answer was always well wouldn't that be nice#and you know what? it is nice.#I'm sure when I get to other services I'll have to deal with that shit again lmao#but I will have my moment.

#I hate when hyperfixations hit this hard because I legitimately struggle to exist without it????#I'm sure other ADHD/Autistic people get where I'm coming from but it gets to the point where I'm getting frustrated#and not even for lack of content or not having things to do with that fixation#but because it doesn't feel like ENOUGH#I'm like - itching out of my own SKIN over it and it's so hard to put into words#Like being in a damn reservoir of drinkable water while desperately seeking a glass to consume it#if anyone has any advice to ease that shit then please do let me know because MAN I actually hate it????#And I wanna be clear that I don't hate epic (far from it ofc) but rather the mental response my brain has when I get this deep#It's like when you get to share a passion with people but you see they're not interested as you talk#but for some reason you CAN'T STOP TALKING and by the end of it you feel bad for boring people and they feel bad because they're bored#and no one leaves that situation happy smh#ooc || the birb speaks#mental health cw#rant cw#i guess????

#sims#ts3#sims 3#photoshoots#character verse#gaia bethancourt#she's one of the side characters to freya's story#her berry version was#guava blush#I have a few ideas for her#so she goes on a few dates with keegan right#I'm not really sure how to incorporate these things in my verse because almost all my characters are queer and it's quite normalised#but I'm getting a strong vibe that she's compheting with keegan and repressing her true attraction to women#because I've been in similar situations (trying to force yourself to like some nice guy but feeling icky)#I'm still thinking maybe heteronormativity indeed exists in the verse depending on how you were raised#I just find comphet stories very relatable as someone who's both wlw and demisexual#so I'd like to try and include one even if my verse is probably more queer friendly than reality#sure it could be spinned as keegan just not being the right person but... idek if it would have the same emotional value#I think one of the reasons why I made my verse like this was also me not wanting to have all the queer stories focused on homophobia#and just let my characters exist like normal people without anyone batting an eye#which I often see in other sims games and stories too and it's so validating#but I guess it kind of depends on my mood whether I want a perfect queer utopia or to actually bring up and deal with real life issues
