So merry Christmas I meant to write something but stuff has been happening and I forgot. But I did draw another Incredibles au thing, it’s that scene in the Incredibles where they’re all on the island (so sadly no Four 😔) and they all hug :]

For the WIP ask game, Legend Sneaks Out?
I’m not terribly happy with this? It’s a continuation of something I’m writing for Peggy’s IAU, and it’s very much a WIP. This may change by the time it makes it into a whole post, if it ever does XD
* * *
Legend feels awful.
Physical agony aside, in the wake of being pretty short with his mother and worrying her so much, he feels like a pretty terrible son. His accomplishments as a hero suddenly feel a little less large, a little less important. He just wants to tell his mom that he’s sorry, that he’s alright.
And he tries, when she returns with a bed-headed Hyrule in tow. He opens his mouth to apologize, but Hyrule cuts him off.
“Don’t say anything, just let me work.”
Legend shuts his mouth. That’s just as well; somewhere in the few minutes he’d been sitting on the couch, the cushions seemed to have leeched his leftover strength. He can’t really even find it in him to argue with Hyrule. He just lays there.
The familiar warmth of Hyrule’s healing magic seeps into his body and chases away the awful, throbbing pain. He relaxes and sinks into it. He wants to thank Hyrule, but he’s too tired now. He’ll have to tell him later.

- hero-of-the-wolf
@hero-of-the-wolf Making me work today, huh? /lh
16 - favorite place to write: reclined on my couch, after the kids have gone to bed 😊
...or in bed when I'm supposed to be sleeping 😅
18 - if you keep them, share a deleted sentence or paragraph from a published fic: I don't keep them, sorry ☹️ I edit as I write, so any of these that may have existed died before the fic ever saw the light of day
19 - most interesting topic you've researched for a fic: armor pieces and names or relative speeds of enemies in LOZ
24 - how do you recharge when you're not feeling creative?: Eesh, this one's tricky. Usually, I read, sleep, or watch something unrelated to my writing. Time with my family and my thoughts (daydreams LOL) helps too
30 - share a fic you're especially proud of - Malon heals a broken soul! It was interesting trying to get into IAU Hyrule's head for this one, to balance flashbacks with real-time events AND keep the story consistent from an alt POV

Thanks for the tag Mina and Emmie! I literally wrote this in my notes app because it was getting so long
1. How many works on Ao3? 24 (I finally have two pages LOL)
2. Total ao3 word count? 79,693 😳 Almoat 80k in the 19 months it's been since I published my first fic!
3. Top five fics by kudos?
The truth comes to light A pov rewrite of Lofty's secrets of the shadows. Its my only non-LU work, I'm not surprised it's this high (literally twice as high as the others on this list)
Glassbound based on hyah-lian's febuwhump art last year. Hyrule gets captured, Four finds him, and they both suffer. Featuring Fairy Hyrule & Minish Four
In the dark of the night My first febuwhump work, where I took requests from friends on tumblr and combined various prompts to complete their requests
Please be careful with the merchandise My first fic! Pov swap for Peggy's whumptober 2021 fic Auction
Wild child Tiny little crack fic from this year's febuwhump collection. Hit all the right beats with people, apparently!
4. What fandoms do you write for? Zelda, 100%
5. Do you respond to comments? I am very, very far behind, but I try to respons to each one!
6. Fic with the angstiest ending: Like Mina, I don't like to write negative endings. I do have Wings of time, winds of chance, though, which I left open/ambiguous
7. Fic with the happiest ending: I feel like I have a lot of intense hurt balanced by intense relief at the end, idk which one to choose? Probably Countdown, as the only one I've made myself cry writing
8. Do you get hate? Nope! I did have one bot comment wanting me to work for them, but that's the only negativity I've seen
9. Do you write smut? No, and I don't plan to either
10. Do you write crossovers? Not really. I wrote Malon Heals a broken soul, a pov swap for one of Peggy's IAU fics, but that's it.
11. Ever had a fic stolen? No, thank goodness. I have tried to keep them locked behind registered users, only opening them up when I'm actively working on the fic/series.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I dont think I'm a big enough name for that to happen 😅
13. Have you ever co-written a fic? No, but I have taken several idea requests and written based on those
14. All-time favorite ship? Myself and @guildknight-03 😆 But in fandom, I don't really think in terms of ships? I don't mind reading them, but they're not the focus for me. Zelink and Malink can't go wrong, though
15. Wips you want to finish but doubt you ever will? The original story I started writing in middle school, and have daydreams about still. But I don't know where my original pages for it are, or if I typed them up, I don't remember where 🥲
16. Writing strengths? Wrangling the words to portray the emotions the characters are feeling. The most-frequently used word in comments in my fics recently is "visceral," so...
17. Writing weaknesses? Word volume and consistency in general. I have a specific window of "I should be sleeping" that I write best in haha
18. Thoughts on mixed-language dialogue? I adore it! I love languages in general, and it gives me the chance to practice/learn more words. Some of my favorite books have Italian phrases sprinkled throughout
19. First Fandom you wrote for? I literally started writing fanfic a year and a half ago, and it's only been Zelda since then
20. Favorite fic you've ever written? Do I have to choose? I write what I like to read. I'm partial to my pov swap fics (merchandise, Soul and truth linked above, as well as Save me from this darkness), and I'm particularly happy with my art/writing prompt fics (glassbound above and gloomstruck), but of my original works, I like the Earth temple, remastered. It had my first real fight scene, and it went better than I thought it would!
Tagging: @alicewritingstories @aeghina @smilesrobotlover @lizzable and @tashacee
I have been tagged by @batrogers!!
1. How many works on AO3? 241
2. Total AO3 word count? 1.25mil. Almost to my 3rd AO3 anniversary :D (that's around 1,170 words every day for three years, not counting nonpublished words! Proud of that rate, even if it's slowing.)
3. Top 5 fics by kudos:
Status? about Four. I think this one hits the sweet spot for a lot of people: not too long, a bit angsty, but sweet.
so i admit that the mud didn't do much for me, about Hyrule. Actually the first fic I ever posted on this account, it's silly and I'm surprised to see it so high
incandescently happy, a post-LU happy ending. Posted little chapters every day for like a month which kept it in people's feeds so I think that's why it's so high
what is a stump supposed to do, a random Hyrule & Four one, honestly baffled why it's up here
Rise and Shine and Fall, my successful (by that I mean actually wrote and posted every day on schedule) Whumptober 2022 extravaganza compilation. I posted it all in one work, so it's higher than most other whump fics of mine, but there's a lot in it!
4. What fandoms do you write for? Zelda. In the past I wrote a tiny bit of Danny Phantom and a fair amount of FE3H!
5. Do you respond to comments? Always!! I admit to being SO VERY BEHIND right now, a couple months' worth. I'm trying to keep up on new ones, but I've had some beautiful wonderful readers going through my catalog and I can't always keep up!! XD
6. Fic with the angstiest ending: I don't write a lot of negative endings, so I think this badge goes to Counterbalance, my LU Darks AU. I'm actually fully in love with this fic, it's probably the best mix of silly and angsty I've ever written. It's full of what are essentially OCs but they're all my babies and I love them.
7. Fic with the happiest ending: incandescently happy, post-LU. The whole fic is essentially a fix-it ending, though LU doesn't have an ending yet. XD
8. Do you get hate? A couple silly comments trying to tell me I'm doing things wrong, but not really no! Oh, also can't forget the ask I got that was "Remember that Jesus is your first reader." I think that was meant to be passive aggressive but there's a chance it was meant like, genuinely? Not sure.
9. Do you write smut? Nah. And I don't plan to. Not my thing! Closest I get are vampire bites XD
10. Do you write crossovers? I swear I've done more but the only ones on my AO3 are a Vidow fic done in an original world (Nothing New Under the Sun (crystals, dumplings, jewelry)), and Blood-Sucker's Guide to High School, a Vidow retelling of a very fun vampire novel.
11. Ever had a fic stolen? Nope, but I did have one of my Vidow fake fic book covers stolen for someone's fake fiverr listing. Got it taken down with a DMCA but I was like, why
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not to my knowledge.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic? Oh plenty. @enrolio and I spent most of 2020-21 lockdowns and beyond cowriting, mostly original stories (1.7mil) but a lot of fic, too (nothing published, but almost 400k worth.) We're currently in the process of working on a big epic original fantasy series, though that's a long-term project. @batrogers and I have done a few alt-POV-type projects too, which have been super duper fun!! Hope to do more.
In that vein too, I feel like the Bad End Links kind of qualify here—so much of the characters and their stories were brainstormed collaboratively and so many friends have contributed details and fics and art, it feels like a fun group project! I've really enjoyed working on it. :D (the encouragement and hype for it also helps a lot!! I'm really hoping to finish this big project out!)
14. All-time favorite ship? Ahhhh a harder question than you'd think, tbh, even if you're limiting it to fic. I've written the most for Vidow, and they're definitely up there (same with Fourdow though I've done less with them.) I do have to admit that Linhardt/Byleth might take the cake, though. They were the first ship I was ever actually obsessed with, and the first romantic pairing I wrote in fic.
I just really adore Linny in general, and I love how the pairing continues and closes off some of the themes in the Crimson Flower route of FE3H. That's the only route where Byleth doesn't become archbishop-slash-dictator, and I think choosing to live life in a small cottage, not particularly contributing too much to the government, builds nicely upon the themes of becoming human and choosing your own destiny, themes that are really missing from the other routes.
15. WIPs you want to finish but doubt you ever will? My old AO3 account (a couple FE3H fics and not much else) has a series where I wrote the beginning of a fic and then had several different endings planned, each a different ship with Linhardt, but I only ever wrote one. I'd love to read the rest but I have too many other fics calling my name!
16. Writing strengths? Um... Volume and speed? Also AUs. I think I can call myself good at fitting characters into new settings. Also fight scenes are fun and I think I do them well.
17. Writing weaknesses? I feel somewhat weak in the plotting and style realms.
18. Thoughts on mixed language dialogue? You can't count on a reader to know not-tagged languages, so that has to be accounted for in the text.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Danny Phantom, in high school or maybe just after. That's late for a lot of fic writers but... there are reasons for that, and a different discussion!!
20. Favorite fic you've ever written? This is an extremely rude question, because I love so many for different reasons. I write things I want to read!! Counterbalance (for the tone) and Blood-Sucker's Guide (for the finished novel plot) are up there but I linked them above, so I'll take the chance to call out a different few—Marvelous Misadventures is way up there, a Wind-focused modern with magic AU. I promise I'm still working on that last chapter (and the epilogue), I just gotta throw everything else aside one month and buckle down. Maybe June, I don't have any fic events planned and 06/23 was the last update. I think some earlier chapters need a refresh as well, once I have the ending written.
I'll also toss White Walls (medwhump, "non consensual body modification: the fic") into this category for how long it is and how proud I am to have finished even a collection this long, and a long walk, a Linked Nexus fic where I did so much math and had so much fun with it. :D

IAU requests you say? 👀👀👀👀👀👀
okay okay hmmmmm what about some bby Hyrule angst? as he's adjusting to living with the others? :3
- hero-of-the-wolf
Tumblr media
@hero-of-the-wolf I hope you don’t mind I mixed these two asks together a bit to write this! I couldn’t resist the allure of a sickfic lol. This also fits with today’s febuwhump prompt, which is “holding back tears”, heh.
This takes place not long after Hyrule comes along, maybe a month or two. Little guy is still very much adjusting 😔
Warning for some throwing up, and some mentions of past child abuse.
————————————————————
It started with a twinge, a tiny ache.
Hyrule’s heart sank the moment he woke up and felt it, a little sting when he swallowed, a sinking feeling in his stomach. He hurriedly brushed it aside when Four gave him a curious look, and went downstairs for breakfast, trying to tell himself it was only his imagination. He was fine.
It got harder to ignore as the day went on though, the lump in his stomach turning to nausea, the sting in his throat a true ache. But Hyrule kept ignoring it, trying to act normal, making sure he did anything that was asked of him without any complaint. He did the bit of handwriting Malon had started him on, helped sweep the floor, healed Wind’s scraped knee when he came to him crying, and despite the shake in his legs and the buzz in his head that only got worse, he kept it up.
Being sick made things harder, but Hyrule knew complaining only made it worse. Somewhere in his head he knew his new family wasn’t like any of his old caretakers, wouldn’t scream at him for slowing down or healing less intensely than normal, but Hyrule had still only been with them a little while now.
Who was to say what they thought about being sick? He couldn’t be useful if he was sick. What if they kicked him out when they realized?
Hyrule’s heart skipped a beat. No. It was safer to hide it. Even if they didn’t kick him out, whining about a little dizziness and nausea would only be an annoyance. He would just ignore it, and wait for it to go away like he always did.
Or, that was the plan, anyway.
Hyrule had forced himself to eat dinner that night, knowing Malon and Time didn’t like it when he left food on his plate. His stomach felt way worse after he finished, but he ignored it, and managed to get through the rest of the evening without any incidents. He got ready for bed promptly, avoided Twilight’s nose that seemed to sniff out everything, dodged Wild and Legend who were wrestling in the bathroom, and finally curled up in bed with a sigh. He felt better lying down at least.
He lightly dozed until Malon came in to tuck Wind and Four in bed, and he watched her quietly as she read them a story, then settled them in bed. Would Malon really be mad if he was sick? She was always so nice, and when he’d still had his cough from the fire, she hadn’t been annoyed then.
But...
“You worthless brat!”
Hyrule sighed and lowered his head as his stomach rolled. He didn’t know.
Time came in and said goodnight to them all before leaving again, busy with something with work, and Malon came over to Hyrule, having finished with Wind and Four. She tucked him in and kissed his head, but then she hesitated a moment when she drew back, looking at him with a slight squint.
“Is everything okay, hon?” she asked. Hyrule’s stomach seemed to churn more sharply at the question, but he quickly nodded, trying his best to look healthy.
Malon still looked a little suspicious, her brows furrowed, but she nodded in turn and stood up.
“Okay, if you’re sure. Goodnight sweetie,” she said, and Hyrule said goodnight back to her, curling up as she left the room and trying to ignore his stomach so he could sleep.
Sleep didn’t seem to want to come though. He was plenty tired, but his nausea rolled through him in a way that made it impossible to sleep. Hyrule would just manage to doze off a little when his stomach would churn, and he’d have to reposition himself before trying to sleep again.
There was a pressing on his throat now too, one that only lessened a little when he swallowed, and Hyrule tried desperately to ignore it. He even tried using a little spurt of his powers on himself, hoping it would help something, but all it served to do was make him dizzier. It must have been the middle of the night by now, and he’d barely slept a wink.
Hyrule rolled over again, clutching his blanket to himself as he bit his tongue.
I’m fine. It’s just a stomachache. Go to sleep.
Hyrule’s stomach rumbled in a bad way, and he curled in tighter on himself.
It’s okay, it’s just an ache, you’re fine.
His stomach rolled more sharply. The pressing on his throat grew worse, and Hyrule whimpered.
You’re fine you’re fine you’re fineyou’refineyou’refine—
His stomach lurched, the pressing on his throat reaching the point of no return, and Hyrule stumbled out of bed, holding his hand over his mouth as he scrambled for the bathroom.
He only made it about halfway down the hallway before he couldn’t hold it back anymore.
Hyrule stumbled over and vomited all over the floor, unable to stop himself. Tears pricked at his eyes as he threw up, his throat burning, and all he could do was retch for several moments, all while trying to be as quiet as possible.
Finally his stomach finished rebelling, and Hyrule sank down to his knees, a ragged hiccup escaping him. He hated throwing up. And he didn’t even feel any better than he had before.
Hyrule let out a soft moan, clutching at his stomach, then braced himself before opening his eyes. It was even worse than he’d been expecting, and Hyrule began to shake as he stared at the mess of what used to be his dinner on the floor, mind whirling with dizziness and sudden terror.
He’d thrown up all over the floor, and a rug.
No no no no you ruined it you wrecked their things they’re going to punish you—
Hyrule nearly threw up again as memories lodged in his head of other sicknesses, voices screeching in his ears, head spinning. Being yelled at for daring to throw up, told to clean up his own mess, berated for being too weak to heal and kicked around one time when he just couldn’t make his trembling body move—
Hyrule clutched at his hair, and tried to take in steadying breaths.
No. No, he would figure this out. He would clean it up, and nobody would even know. There had to be cleaning supplies around somewhere, right? He knew where Malon kept a few things, but not stuff that would helpful for this. But surely the bathroom had cleaners somewhere?
He’d start there.
Hyrule swallowed back the burn in his throat, and dizzily stumbled to his feet, hurrying on shaking legs to the bathroom. Nobody was using it thank goodness, and despite how his head hurt even more as he flicked the light on, he firmly ignored it, looking carefully in the cabinet and drawers. His hands shook as he dug around, trying not to disturb anything too much, and the tight feeling in his stomach only increased, due to both nausea and emotion.
You’ll clean it up it’ll be fine you’ll clean it up and nobody will know and nothing will happen.
Hyrule finally found an old towel next to some sponges, one obviously used to clean with. Hyrule sagged in relief and snatched it up, heading back to the hallway. His vomit was obvious in the faint moonlight from the window, and Hyrule swallowed as he looked at it, stomach lurching as the smell hit him.
No no no, get it together. You’ve got to clean it up.
Hyrule breathed in harshly through his nose, turning away to get fresh air, then turned back once he felt his stomach was settled enough. He could do this. He wasn’t going to make even more of a mess.
Hyrule swallowed, the action hurting his throat, and started mopping up the mess, trying to hold his breath. The towel only sort of worked, his sick thick enough that he was mostly just spreading it around, and after a few moments Hyrule stopped with an anxious tap of his fingers. What else could he do? And even when he did manage to clean up the mess, where was he going to put it?
Hyrule stared dumbly at the vomit, feeling gross in multiple senses of the word.
He didn’t want to be sitting here next to his sick, trying to figure out how to clean it up while his head ached and his stomach twisted and his hands shook with fear.
He just wanted to go back to bed.
Hyrule bit his lip to stop himself from crying again, and tried to calm down. Maybe he should look for something he could throw out? That would be the easiest way to get rid of it. There were lunch bags downstairs... that might work. How was he going to get the mess into the bag though?
Hyrule stared at it again, trying to get his exhausted brain to think, but nothing was coming to mind.
And then he heard the floor creak.
Hyrule froze, his hearing seeming to sharpen at that single noise. Another creak rang out from the direction of Time and Malon’s room only a few paces away, and Hyrule’s breath caught, panic making his stomach lurch.
They’re going to see.
They woke up they’re going to see they’re going hate me they—
A shield flickered around him without his permission, making Hyrule’s dizziness worse as he quickly dropped it again. The pressing feeling came back into his throat, panic making him shake, fear pounding in his chest and squeezing so tight his lungs hurt.
His stomach lurched, and as the door opened, Hyrule threw up again right beside where he had before.
“Oh— good grief kiddo—”
Hyrule’s retching mixed with sobs he couldn’t hold back, and he barely heard the footsteps over his heart pounding in his ears, terror freezing him in place. A hand settled on his back, and Hyrule nearly choked, only crying harder as it began to rub.
“Just get it out Hyrule, it’s okay,” a voice said, and he let out a miserable noise, trying desperately to stop throwing up. There was barely anything in his stomach now, but things kept coming up anyway, bile burning as it went up his throat.
Finally he got his heaving under control, and Hyrule trembled as he looked up, feeling sick and disgusting and terrified.
Time knelt beside him, face creased, and Hyrule shrank in on himself, trying to hurriedly wipe his tears away. Crying always made it worse.
It didn’t here, a voice whispered in his head, reminding him of comforting arms wrapped around him while he sobbed, but the memory was lost in his headache and twisting stomach and weight of worse memories.
“Are you finished?” Time asked softly, and Hyrule sniffled, managing to nod. “Hyrule, what happened?”
“I w-was— I was t-trying to get to the bathroom, b-but I couldn’t do it— and I was trying t-to clean it, but— I’m sorry,” he choked out, more tears welling in his eyes.
Time looked at him with what might have been concern, but then Malon appeared in the doorway, and Hyrule’s gaze flicked to her. She looked... disgusted.
“Oh sweetie,” Malon sighed as she looked at the mess, and Hyrule was sure that meant she was mad. She flicked the light on so they could see better, then knelt down beside him and Time, taking in his trembling, disgusting, teary form. “Have you felt sick all day?”
Hyrule gave a tiny nod, and Malon sighed again, Hyrule flinching at the sound.
“Were you trying to clean this up by yourself?” Time questioned, and Hyrule bit his lip.
“Yes. I’m sorry I-I woke you,” he croaked, looking down at the floor as more tears dripped down his face. “I’ll— I’ll clean it. I’ll be quiet, I w-won’t bother you anymore.”
“Hyrule, you— honey, goodness, you don’t need to clean this up, we’ll handle it,” Malon said worriedly, and Hyrule stared at her like she’d grown a second head.
“But I made th-the mess, it’s my fault, I should clean it—”
“Link, you’re sick. Your job right now is to rest,” Time said patiently, leaning over and picking up the towel Hyrule had attempted to clean with. Time and Malon briefly met eyes, and he gave a small nod. “We’ll take care of it.”
Hyrule blinked at him, beyond confused. “But I... I ruined the rug,” he whispered, shrinking into himself while he expected a yell or smack.
To his surprise, Time laughed.
“Hyrule, this rug has had plenty of things happen to it, a little vomit will hardly ruin it,” he chuckled, shaking his head. “You’re not even the first kid to throw up on it.”
“I’m not?” Hyrule peeped, and Time nodded.
“You’re not. And even if you were, it’s just a rug,” Malon assured, then gently took his hand. “You look pretty rough, sweetie. What do you say we get you cleaned up?”
Hyrule hesitated, still extremely confused, but finally nodded. He didn’t have to clean it up? They weren’t mad?
That just... didn’t make any sense.
A trick?
Hyrule swallowed. He would maybe question it more, but he still felt terrible and too tired to argue. If it was a trick, he didn’t have the energy to try and get out of it. So he let Malon gently tug him back to the bathroom, fetching him some clean pajamas and cleaning the vomit from his chin and hands.
At some point while she cleaned him up he realized he was crying again, but he didn’t even know why. He was just exhausted. Malon gently wiped his tears away too, and once he was all cleaned up, Hyrule let her put her arm around him.
He sniffled, still feeling sick and dizzy, but... better, with the contact.
Maybe... maybe it wasn’t a trick.
Malon rubbed his back for a few moments, then picked him up, Hyrule resting a shaky head on her shoulder. They left the bathroom, and passed Time cleaning up in the hallway, Hyrule feeling that horrible shrivel of guilt and fear in his stomach again. But Time only kept cleaning, and Malon carried Hyrule back to his room, sitting down on the bed with him as she brushed sweaty hair from his forehead.
“You don’t feel too warm... does your stomach still hurt?” Malon asked softly so as not to wake anyone else in the room, and Hyrule gave a little nod. “Would you like to try some ginger ale? That seems to help your brothers when they’re nauseous.”
The mere idea of drinking anything only made his stomach hurt more, and Hyrule quickly shook his head.
“Okay. Maybe we can try some in the morning,” Malon said, and silence fell over them, Hyrule still letting out an occasional soft sniffle.
He still didn’t know what to think about all this, and was too exhausted to puzzle through it anymore. He was completely sure that Malon had been disgusted by his throw up, but she’d still cleaned it off of him. He’d interrupted Time’s sleep while he was especially busy with work, but he’d still rubbed his back while he was being sick and was cleaning up his mess.
He didn’t understand. He just didn’t understand.
Malon covered up a small yawn, still running a hand over his head, and looked down when Hyrule sniffled again.
“You don’t have to hide when you’re sick, Hyrule,” Malon began quietly, and he closed his eyes, not wanting to look at her. “I know it’s hard to tell us when something is wrong. But we want to help you, and we can’t do that if we don’t know that there’s a problem.”
“I’m sorry,” he whispered, and Malon sighed again.
“And you don’t need to apologize, sweetheart. We’re all still figuring this out. And you can’t help being sick, it’s just one of those things,” she said gently. “You feel okay enough to go back to sleep? You look like you could use it.”
Hyrule gave a tiny shrug. He didn’t know. His stomach still hurt a lot, and even though he didn’t feel like he was going to throw up again right now, his throat and head both hurt, and he felt dizzy when he moved too fast. He didn’t know if sleep was going to happen.
Time walked in while he was thinking, and Hyrule looked up, blinking at the pail he was holding.
“Here we go. If you feel like you can’t make it to the bathroom, you can throw up in here,” Time explained, setting the bucket by the bed. “Then you don’t have to worry about making a run for it.”
“Is there anything else you need?” Malon asked.
Both of them looked at him, expressions worried, and Hyrule felt his eyes sting again, lip trembling.
The last time he’d been sick like this, he’d had a bucket thrown at him and been told to keep the noise to a minimum, then been essentially left alone for a week. It had been all he could do just to drag himself to the bathroom when he needed it, to say less of the day his healing had been needed in the middle of everything.
But this time... it had just...
Hyrule buried his face in Malon’s shoulder, his tears back again for a different reason, and she made a worried noise, holding him tighter.
“I-I’m— I don’t n-need anything,” Hyrule managed to hiccup out through his sobs, voice muffled by Malon’s shirt. “I— thanks.”
His voice broke into an embarrassing squeak, and he rubbed at his eyes, still puffy from his earlier tears. He just couldn’t stop crying tonight.
He hated being sick. He hated it so much.
“You’re welcome, sweetie. Try to calm down a little,” Malon soothed, and Time sat down next to her, setting a hand on Hyrule’s back again. “Take some deep breaths. It’s okay.”
Malon began to hum the song Hyrule had heard her sing around the house before, one that he really liked. Time stayed quiet, but he didn’t move his hand from Hyrule’s back, and it felt warm where it rested near his shoulder. They both felt warm and safe, safe like wisps of memory Hyrule could barely recall, safe like the night they told him they loved him, and wanted him to stay.
Safe like being told he was family.
Hyrule shakily breathed in, then out, relaxing into their hold. His tears began to slow, then stop, leaving him even more exhausted than before, even with the tiredness from being sick. A blanket got set over him at some point, and his eyes drifted closed, the terrified feelings he’d been trying to overcome all day finally easing.
His stomach still hurt, he still felt sick, but it was less extreme, and he felt... better. In more than one way.
Hyrule finally relaxed, safe in the arms around him, and drifted off to sleep, secure in the knowledge he would be taken care of when he woke back up.

first of all HIII HOW YA DOINNN :DD I HOPE UR GOOD YIPPIEEE
second, so i've heArd ur taking requests on ur incredibles au (IAU),, im right?
so in the first place i was going to ask something for Four (cuz Four my baby in every universe), BUT then Hyrule came to my mind, so maybe something about them both?? like, idk the relationship with those two (i'm really sorry if you already said that-), but i'll love to see the boys being bros, like, Four coming home after a bad day at school? idk like so much homework or something?? and then Hyrule comes and says: "yeaaah, you need a hug" or something Hyrule would do in this au
idk i'm not the best at expressing myself ;-;
HI THERE HELLO I’m doing ok at the moment! life has been kind of insane lately but we persist 👍
I tweaked your request just a tiny bit but here’s something with Four and Hyrule! Hope you enjoy it :)
————————————————————
Hyrule looked up from his book as he heard his brothers all troop in, kicking off shoes and backpacks and chattering about the day they’d had at school. Hyrule didn’t mind being homeschooled, but he did like to hear about the stuff that went on in his brothers’ days. Usually he rode along with his mom to pick everybody up and he heard everything then, but they’d needed an extra seat for some reason that Hyrule didn’t remember. Maybe they were dropping somebody extra off? He forgot.
Well long story short, Hyrule had five brothers’ news to catch up on, and he wanted to hear it.
Hyrule set aside his book, finished with the chapter he’d been in the middle of, then got up to grab a snack and listen to the gossip. He’d just made it to the doorway when a hand suddenly snagged his arm, giving it a little tug.
“Oh, hey Four,” Hyrule said, looking down at his little brother who’d suddenly appeared beside him. “You have a good day at school?”
Four shifted his weight, his face half hidden behind both his hair and the hood of his jacket. “Um, sorta. Can... I talk to you? Alone?”
Hyrule blinked. “Uh... sure?”
Four nodded and quickly tugged him down the hall, and Hyrule followed, feeling a mixture of bemused and worried. Why was Four so eager to talk to him? Was something wrong?
Four pulled Hyrule into the laundry room, the thump of the drier running blocking most of the noise from their siblings. It was a good place to go if you didn’t want to be overheard... which only made Hyrule more concerned.
“Okay Four, what’s this about?” Hyrule asked, and Four shifted his weight, then pulled his hood down and brushed back his hair.
Revealing a black eye and swelling up cheek to match.
“Whoa! Four, what happened?!” Hyrule asked in alarm, and Four frantically shushed him, looking around for any of their other siblings. Everyone was still down the hall though, and nobody seemed to have heard him over the drier.
“It’s just a black eye,” Four said awkwardly, and Hyrule got to a knee, carefully taking his cheek into his hand so he could look at it. “Um... can you fix it?”
“Well yeah, I can, but I kinda want to know what happened first,” Hyrule said. “Did someone hit you?”
Four shuffled his feet, looking awkward. “Just some other kids,” he mumbled, messing with his hoodie sleeve. “They were bugging me about my height, and I tried to just leave but they wouldn’t let me and I fought back... not very well.”
“At least you tried,” Hyrule said sympathetically, swallowing back his anger. Why would someone pick on Four? “Here, I’ll see what I can do. Bruises are tricky sometimes, but I’ll do what I can.”
Four nodded, and they both sat down with their backs against the washing machine. Hyrule lightly ran his hand along Four’s cheek and eye, wincing as he studied it. The whole side of Four’s face was beginning to swell, and his eye was mostly closed, the color dark and shiny. His little brother winced as he lightly prodded it, and Hyrule gave him a sympathetic look. Black eyes hurt.
Hyrule drew his healing powers up, lighting a hand in blue, and carefully ran his palm over Four’s cheek again. The swelling began to go down, the bruised color slowly fading with it. Hyrule managed to get it to the point where the bruise was just barely visible and the swelling was mostly gone before he stopped, and he smiled at Four.
“There you go. I did what I could— it’s still a little off, but hopefully nobody will notice too much. I’ll look at it again tomorrow to make sure it’s still good.”
“Thanks ‘rule,” Four sighed, leaning against him. He still seemed glum, and Hyrule fixed some of the hair that was falling from his ponytail.
“Did they hurt you anywhere else?” he asked gently, and Four hesitated, then shook his head.
“Not really. They pushed me around some, but the face was the big thing.” Four sighed. “I wish Dot hadn’t been at the dentist. Nobody messes with her.”
“Really? Nobody?” Hyrule said, and Four nodded his head.
“Yeah, her dad is on the school board,” he replied back with a smirk, and Hyrule chuckled.
Four fell quiet, and Hyrule looked down at him, still feeling worried. He could heal physical injuries, sure, but the emotional part? Hyrule didn’t know how to fix that. And if Four had been bullied... that was more on the emotional side than Hyrule was good at.
Should I go get Twilight? He’s way better at this than me...
Hyrule swallowed. He’d give it a try first.
“So... you didn’t tell anyone else about what happened?” he asked, and Four looked at his lap.
“No. I didn’t want a big fuss, and you know everybody would go on the warpath,” Four said with a sigh. “It wouldn’t help.”
“You can’t let those guys beat you up, though,” Hyrule said. “And if Mom and Dad find out you’re hiding injuries from them...”
“I know, I know. I’d been avoiding them okay up until now,” Four said with a miserable sigh. “I just slipped up today. I’ll be more careful.”
“You’re sure?” Hyrule asked seriously, and Four nodded.
“Sure. And anyway if they try again I know what not to do this time,” Four said with a wave of his hand. Then he winced a little and rubbed his cheek. “I don’t want a fuss.”
Hyrule nodded sympathetically, and Four was silent for a minute, head resting on his shoulder.
“You said they were teasing you about your height?” Hyrule asked quietly, and Four nodded.
“Yeah. And something about being a nerd too, but I think that’s just cause I won the spelling bee last week. I don’t know.” Four sighed and nestled a little closer against him. “...You’re not gonna tell anyone about this, are you?”
Hyrule hesitated. That was a loaded question. “...Not if you don’t want me to. But Four... you can’t just let those guys keep bothering you. You can’t tell a teacher or anything?”
Four squirmed, and fiddled with his hoodie strings. “I mean... I could. I just... everybody always thinks I’m too small to do anything. I want to solve this by myself. I don’t want to be useless,” Four said miserably, and as he shrunk into his jacket, Hyrule felt his stomach sink.
“You’re not useless, Four,” he said softly, and Four grumbled.
“Sure. I’m just tiny and powerless. Those are both useful traits,” he said bitterly.
“Being small doesn’t mean you’re useless, and neither does being powerless,” Hyrule argued. “You’re the smartest kid I know, Four. You’re seven years old and you know almost as much math as Wild does!”
“Well... yeah, but—”
“You won the school-wide spelling bee!”
“Okay but—”
“You made that working model of a catapult that dented the wall when you demonstrated it!”
“Okay okay, I get it,” Four said, face red. “But I still want to fix this myself. Please don’t tell anyone?”
Hyrule looked at him intently, and Four met his gaze, eyes determined and pleading.
Hyrule sighed.
“Okay. I won’t say anything. But if those guys hurt you again, you have to tell Mom and Dad, okay? And if you won’t then I will. I don’t want you to keep getting hurt,” Hyrule said worriedly, and Four agreed with a tiny nod.
“Okay. Thanks Hyrule,” Four said gratefully, giving him a quick squeeze, and after a brief moment of hesitation, Hyrule returned it.
“No problem. I’m glad I could help,” Hyrule said softly. “And... I’m sorry they said those things about you.”
“It’s okay. They were just jerks,” Four mumbled, but he tucked his face a little more against Hyrule’s shirt.
Hyrule patted his back, and they sat there in silence for a little longer, the drier’s steady thuds still blotting out any conversation in the rest of the house. Hyrule still wanted a snack though, especially after healing, so after a little while he gave Four a light poke.
“Want to get some food?” he asked, and Four raised his head and smiled.
“Yeah, I do.”
The two of them finally stood and headed off to the kitchen, and got there just in time to hear Wind’s story about how Tetra had convinced their substitute teacher to let them watch a movie in class.

Swapped (part 2)
Incredibles au power swap pt. 2! Checking in on some of the other boys, who are... struggling lol.
Part 1 | Next
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hyrule woke up feeling cold.
A shiver went through him as he slowly came back to awareness, the cold feeling sinking into his very bones, and he wondered why whatever he was lying on was so hard and uncomfortable.
Why did his chest hurt? Why was he so cold? He hadn’t woken up like this since...
Since...
Panic smacked into him, and Hyrule‘s eyes flew open, his heart thudding as he looked around. He took in the unfamiliar walls around him, piles of rubble and dirt, and right as his heart began to pound with fear, he saw Time waking up, a hand held to his chest.
Hyrule sighed in relief, and carefully sat up himself, immediately feeling better. If dad was here, he wasn’t back on the streets, or... worse.
But... that didn’t really answer the question of where he actually was.
Before Hyrule could try and figure it out though, someone let out a panicked gasp. Hyrule jumped and turned around, and saw Wild sitting on the ground a few feet away, looking on the verge of hysterical.
“I’m— I’m slow,” Wild choked out, and Hyrule blinked in confusion as he watched Twilight stumble to his feet beside him, a hand held to his head.
“Wild, it’s all right,” Twilight said, taking a step, then yelped as he somehow went running across the room and straight into a wall. “Ow!”
“You took my speed!” Wild wailed, and Hyrule stared, watching as Twilight tried to get to his feet, but fell over again when his legs went too fast for him. He did a quick glance around the hallway, not seeing anyone else apart from his two brothers and dad. If he had to guess, the rest of his family was probably blocked off by the wall that had collapsed.
...Which had collapsed because of a weird explosion that had also knocked them all out. Right. Now he remembered.
Time properly sat up and looked at Wild and Twilight, his face creased with concern... and a little pain, Hyrule thought. Wild stopped yelling when he saw their dad move, but he still looked panicked, and it seemed like Twilight was afraid to move, his expression confused and fearful.
“Boys what is going on?” Time asked, and Twilight wrapped his arms around himself.
“I don’t know, I woke up and couldn’t hear barely anything and then Wild started yelling and somehow I have his speed and I can’t turn into a wolf,” he said rapidly, clutching at his hair.
“And now I don’t have anything!” Wild added, looking on the verge of tears.
Hyrule blinked, and an even colder feeling ran through him as he digested that. It looked like the explosion had done more than just collapse the wall and knock them out... it had also messed up Wild and Twilight’s powers.
...were they the only ones?
Hyrule quickly drew on his own powers, just to reassure himself nothing was wrong with them. He tried healing first, summoning a blue glow to his hands, but then the icy feeling that had been with him even since he’d woken up suddenly intensified, and Hyrule‘s stomach lurched.
The blue glow was the wrong color.
He tried again, more frantically, but the blue continued to be the wrong color, cold instead of the usual warm, and ice began to spread out from where Hyrule sat, only increasing his panic. Trying to shield brought up no results either, and Hyrule drew desperately on the strange cold power he could feel inside of him, trying to make it heal, to make it shield, do anything it was supposed to be doing.
All he could produce was ice.
Hyrule gasped, trying to stay calm, but not succeeding in the slightest at keeping back the wave of panic that was crashing over him.
What was happening? Anything he tried just kept turning into ice, shielding didn’t work, healing didn’t work, his...
His powers were gone.
The one thing he’d been able to rely on his entire life.
Hyrule felt his breath pick up, his heart pounding as more ice spread out from him. He wouldn’t be able to shield people anymore, protect himself and others from danger, he couldn’t heal, he wouldn’t be able to do anything if he or anyone else got hurt, all he could make was ice and ice and ice—
“Hyrule,” a voice said, and Hyrule looked up and saw his father had joined his side, a worried look on his face.
“Dad— I can’t— I can’t get my shield up,” Hyrule managed to choke out, clutching at his hair. “And my healing, it’s not working, it’s just ice—”
“Hyrule calm down,” Time reassured, holding out a hand.
“Why— why is it doing this, I— wait, don’t touch me! I’ll freeze you!” Hyrule choked as his father kneeled beside him, and Time ignored his words, taking his hands in his own.
They felt... warm.
“Hyrule, I’ve dealt with Warriors’ powers more times than I can count, you won’t freeze me. Calm down,” Time continued, and Hyrule’s brain stuck for a second on the phrasing. Warriors’ powers? “Focus on reining them in. It should be like your own powers, just a little different. Relax.”
Hyrule sucked in a deep breath, thinking slowly through Time’s words and trying to do what he said. He carefully pulled on the strange powers he had, trying to make the cold ease back and stop escaping from him like a leaky faucet, and the ice began to slow in its spread.
Encouraged by the results, he focused a littler harder, and the ice stalled as he took in more deep breaths, finally tamping his panic down to something more manageable. The ice had stopped, and he felt a little less cold as his hands stopped glowing.
The lack of warmth in his middle from both his powers was still terrifying, but Hyrule thought he could... work with it now.
...Maybe.
Hyrule let out one last shaky exhale, and Time squeezed his shoulder, Hyrule leaning into it and feeling much calmer.
“...thanks Dad,” he sighed, and Time nodded.
He stayed next to him for another few moments, letting him continue to calm down, but then Twilight yelped again, and Time drew back with a sigh. He pulled his hand off of Hyrule’s shoulder, but as he drew back, Hyrule let out a startled squeak.
Everything below his father’s elbow was missing.
Time jumped, a truly shocked look on his face, but before he could do anything, his fingers flickered back into view like they’d never been gone at all.
Hyrule and Time both stared at them, and Hyrule watched as Time’s arm abruptly faded out of view again, appearing and disappearing at random.
“You... have Legend’s invisibility?” he said hesitantly, beginning to get an idea of what might be going on, and his father slowly nodded, staring intensely at his hand. Whatever he was trying to do didn’t seem to work though, and he sighed, standing up and helping Hyrule stand as well.
“It looks like it. And you have Warriors’ ice, and Twilight has Wild’s speed,” Time said, and winced as Twilight tripped and landed on his face. “Twilight?”
“Fine,” his son called back weakly, and Time led Hyrule over to where Wild was still sitting in a mild panic.
He patted the both of them on the shoulder, looking into their eyes for a moment, then walked over to Twilight. Wild looked nearly as shaken as Hyrule felt, if not more, but he merely leaned against Hyrule’s arm, Hyrule leaning on him in return.
Looking at how unsettled Wild appeared, Hyrule wasn’t sure if he’d prefer having the ice he currently had, or the nothing Wild seemed to posses.
“Come on Twilight, you can stand,” Time said as he walked away, and Hyrule and Wild both watched him. Twilight was sitting up, but he still looked afraid to move, his face anxious. “You can do it.”
“I’ll just trip again! Why am I so fast all of a sudden? I don’t want Wild’s speed, I can barely hear anything like this or smell anything and I can’t turn into a wolf!” he said rapidly, and Time slowly helped him up.
“I believe our enemy decided to test something on us,” Time said, and Hyrule thought back to what the voice on the intercom had said. That would explain the test subject thing. “And if I'm right... somehow he switched around our powers.”
“But that’s not possible,” Wild spoke up as Time carefully guided Twilight over to them, “you can’t just... switch powers! That’d be like me and Hyrule randomly switching heads!”
“Well somehow he’s done it,” Twilight grimaced.
“And we’ll probably have to stop him to get our proper powers back,” Time sighed, watching as his fingers disappeared from view again.
Hyrule looked around at his family, more then half of them missing from the room, Twilight pale with anxiety, Wild still unhappy about being slow, random bits of their father occasionally disappearing from view.
This... just got a lot more complicated.
Wild looked at Time’s arms, watching as they randomly faded in and out of view, and a grin suddenly stretched across his face, wide and mischievous.
“Dad, did you get both of Legend’s powers?” he asked, and Hyrule and Twilight both turned to look at him as well, Hyrule unable to stop his smile as he realized what he meant.
“I have no idea. And even if I did, I’m not testing it right now,” he said dryly, and Wild and Hyrule both made disappointed noises. “Sorry boys. We need to focus on fixing this mess.”
“Have you tried to contact anyone yet?” Twilight asked, and Time shook his head, pulling out his communication device.
“That’s what I was on to next. I think it’s safe to say everyone’s powers got messed up, so it’s unlikely Artemis is going to come find us.”
“Unless whoever got her powers does,” Wild pointed out, and Twilight shook his head.
“I doubt it. We can barely control the ones we got. I mean, if I’d gotten intangibility, I don’t think I would want to test it by trying to walk through a collapsed wall.”
Hyrule winced. That was a good point. It probably wouldn’t end well if whoever got Artemis’s powers couldn’t use them very well, and accidentally came back in the middle of the wall.
Time busied himself with trying to get his radio working, and Twilight did his best to help him, his leg jittering so rapidly it blurred a bit. Hyrule looked back at Wild, his brother looking miserable, then ignored the urge to shiver as he drew his knees up to his chest.
Why did Warriors’ powers have to be so cold? He thought his uncle had said that the cold didn’t even bother him, why was Hyrule so freezing?
Why couldn't they just be straight-forward like mine?
Hyrule sighed and glanced back at Wild again, frowning when he saw his expression had dimmed even further while he watched Twilight’s leg jitter rapidly in place.
“Are you alright Wild?” Hyrule asked, and Wild shrugged, making the face he made when he was trying to appear unbothered.
“Yeah. I’m fine. You’re... kinda pale though,” he said, looking over Hyrule. "You okay?"
Hyrule shrugged, trying not to look as shaken as he still felt. He knew Wild probably just wanted to help, but he was pretty sure if he thought about his switched-up-also-missing powers too long he’d cry.
Wild somehow read his expression though, and after a moments hesitation, put his arm around Hyrule’s shoulder, giving him a little squeeze.
“It’ll be okay,” Wild said. “We’ll figure it out, Roolie.”
And for some reason Hyrule believed him, the words like a warm blanket on his still-shaky nerves. He near-immediately relaxed, and Wild looked at him in surprise as he leaned on him more, before realization flirted across his face.
“Oh. I got Mom’s,” he said, and Hyrule looked at him weirdly.
“Huh?”
“I got Mom’s powers. You know, she has her whole horse-soothing voice she uses, it’s really good at calming down horses and other animals. I... guess it also works on people?” Wild said hesitantly. “At least I think that’s what that was.”
Hyrule blinked, not sure how he felt about that. But for some reason the thought didn’t seem too worrying, so he shrugged, and set his head on Wild’s shoulder. He was nice and warm, and helped chase away some of the chill.
“Guess so. We’ll have to find a horse so you can test it,” Hyrule murmured, and Wild let out a quiet laugh.
A sigh caught their attentions, and the two looked over at Time and Twilight, both of their face grim.
“No luck,” Time said as he put his radio away with a frown. “It's being blocked. Looks like we’re on our own for now.”
“We should try and find the others then, right?” Twilight asked. “Because not to underestimate us right now, but uh... I don’t know if we can take on this scientist guy in the state we’re in.”
“I could,” Wild said with a bite to his voice. “I’m going to punch that jerk right in the mouth for taking my speed.”
“We were all headed for the top floor when we were ambushed, we’ll continue heading that way,” Time decided, rolling his shoulder. “The others will doubtlessly be working their way that direction as well, so we’ll try to meet up with them on the way. Are you all good to go?” he asked, looking at Twilight and Hyrule especially.
Hyrule nodded, and Twilight glared at his feet, then sighed.
“Yeah. I can walk.”
“Good. Let’s get going then,” Time said with a nod.
And as he took a step forward, he was suddenly doused in shadows.
Everyone jumped, and Hyrule stared as the shadows grew smaller, condensing most intensely by the floor. He had a brief moment of panic before he recognized what the shadows meant, and he froze, exchanging quick glances with his siblings.
The shadows faded away mere moments later, and a small, one-eyed rabbit was left sitting dazedly on the ground.
Hyrule, Wild, and Twilight stared.
Then Wild fell to the floor laughing, and Hyrule bit his lip to stop his own from escaping, the rabbit that was now their father twitching his nose in alarm. He shouldn’t laugh, he really shouldn’t, but Time was so small, and fluffy, and seeing his father as a rabbit of all things was just...
Hyrule couldn’t help his giggle, and Twilight knelt beside Time, their father swiveling his ears in his direction and giving him a wide-eyed look.
“Are you, um, okay Dad?” Twilight asked, his mouth twitching, and Time blinked once or twice, before letting out a rather squeaky sigh.
“I’m fine. Come on, the sooner we fix this the better,” he grumbled, voice slightly squeaky, and began hopping in the direction they’d planned to go in.
Wild finally stopped laughing, though it was a close thing when he saw Time hopping determinedly across the floor. Twilight followed after their father, and Hyrule and Wild trailed behind, Wild still letting out an occasional giggle.
"I guess that answers the question of whether he has both of Legend's powers," he snickered, and Hyrule shook his head in disbelief. This day couldn't get any weirder.
Twilight lifted Time up to sit on his shoulder after only a minute or two of walking, their father's face surprisingly grim for a rabbit, and Hyrule glanced at them, anxiety still churning in his stomach.
He still felt a little shaky and unsure from the shock of his powers being gone, worried for the rest of their group, and Time being a mostly-defenseless rabbit only added another layer to that. But Wild seemed confident, and Twilight and Time were both putting on brave faces, so Hyrule decided he would be too.
They could do this. They’d stop the scientist guy, and make him fix this.
Screwed up powers or not.
And Hyrule kept telling himself that, even when Twilight lost control of his legs again and smacked into a wall mere moments later.

Swapped (Part 5)
I’ve been making a lot of progress on Incredibles au fics lately haha. Here we are at part five, checking in with the Wild, Hyrule, Twilight and Time group! Things are really picking up now...
Mild injury warning, along with a little violence and some guns being shot.
First | Previous | Next
————————————————————
Wild was dragging behind.
He knew he was, and it was driving him crazy, but moving faster took so much effort now. Was this how everybody else had to run? It was awful. His feet felt so heavy, and his arms too, and his head, and legs, and lungs... it was like his whole body had been stuck in a big vat of honey.
At least they could only go so fast anyway, considering that Twilight frequently lost control and careened into a wall. Wild felt bad for him, but also couldn’t help a few snickers at the frequency of his speed-related crashes. Especially with their dad in his arms. He made an awfully cute bunny.
Hyrule was the one he really felt bad for though. He still looked so shaken, and occasionally little panicked spurts of flurries escaped his fingertips. Wild would be the last to suggest his mom’s powers weren’t cool, but he was a teeny bit jealous that he hadn’t gotten ice to shoot out of his hands. Plus maybe Hyrule would be a little calmer without ice randomly spirting from his fingertips.
How come Mom can’t shoot horses out of her hands or something? That would be cool.
...I hope she and everyone else are okay.
“Wild, keep up,” his father called, and Wild bit back a growl when he realized just how far behind he was. Stupid scientist. Stupid mixed-up powers. Stupid—
Wild finally caught up with the others again, his dad giving him a sympathetic look. Wild ignored it, and kept plodding forward, trying to not think about his heavy feet. They were trying to make it to the elevator, Twilight sheepishly admitting he wasn’t sure if he would be able to handle stairs, but it was taking forever to get down the hallway they were pretty sure led there.
As Wild dragged himself along, half-listening to Twilight talking to Hyrule, something hit his ear, a noise somewhere that he didn’t recognize. Wild stopped in his tracks, then tilted his head to try and listen to it.
It was something squeaky almost, a distant sound he couldn’t really make out too well. But something about what he could hear made him want to follow it, and... stop the sadness he could hear in the sound.
“Wild? Is something wrong?” Hyrule asked, looking back at him.
“No, I... maybe? I hear something,” Wild admitted, and they all drew to a stop.
“What kind of something?”
“Like... crying? Like someone’s upset? It’s not words, exactly, I... oh, maybe it’s an animal,” Wild realized. “Can Mom hear other animals too?”
“She can only really understand ones with hooves, but she can get the gist with other animals sometimes,” Twilight spoke up. “I mean, she understands me when I’m a wolf at least.”
“That’s merely because she’s had lots of practice with you,” their father spoke up, nose twitching. “And the blood relation likely affects that. But yes, she can somewhat understand other animals.”
Wild frowned and tilted his head again, listening.
“You said it sounded like crying?” Twilight asked worriedly, and Wild nodded.
“Yeah... sort of. It’s hard to explain.”
The noise he could hear was a squeaky sort of cry, faint, but just legible enough for Wild to make it out. And though there were no words, somehow he knew whatever was making the sound was afraid.
“I think I need to help it,” Wild said quietly, and Hyrule hesitated.
“But our powers...”
“I don’t think this’ll take long,” Wild reassured. Though it would take even less long if I had my proper powers. “And...” He turned towards a hallway, staring down it. “...I think it’s right over there.”
“I can hear it too,” Time said, and frowned, a floppy ear swiveling around. “It’ll be a quick detour, let’s go.”
“But our powers... ohh okay,” Hyrule sighed, and followed after them all.
Wild led the way, slow as he was, but he wasn’t thinking about it as much as he listened to the sound. It only got louder as he walked, and Wild focused all his attention on the whimpering squeaks ringing through the hallway. He came to a stop at one of the last doors in the hall, the noises obviously coming from behind it, and he turned the handle.
The door slowly moved open, Wild relieved it wasn’t locked. He cautiously poked his head inside, and along with his siblings and dad, looked around for any kind of threats.
The room that met him was dim, but there were enough lights for Wild to see. Small cages were set on various surfaces, all empty as far as Wild could tell, and nobody seemed to be in this room. Clipboards and beakers and random other pieces of equipment Wild didn’t recognize caught his eye, and he wandered among them in mild interest, still listening for the small cries as the others came in behind him.
He heard one, louder now that he was in the room, and followed the sound past some tables laden with big sciencey stuff he didn’t recognize.
Then he saw the last cage.
It was really small, maybe about as tall as two shoeboxes stacked together. Something pale was curled up inside of it, and as Wild stepped forward, a blue head rose up, golden eyes settling on him.
Wild froze as they locked gazes, and Twilight gasped.
“Oh my gosh. A blupee,” Twilight whispered as Wild approached the cage, his voice awed.
“A what?” Hyrule asked, and Twilight swallowed.
“A blupee, they’re legendary creatures, I’ve read about them in stuff. They were thought to either be extinct or just... not exist,” he whispered.
Time stood up in his arms to get a better look, and Wild hesitantly extended a hand, setting it against the bars of the cage. The little creature watched him in silence, and Wild murmured in a soothing way almost instinctively, which made its feathery antennae perk up.
It moved towards where Wild’s hand was pressed against the cage, and rubbed against it, silky fur brushing against his fingers.
“How did the scientist guy get one of these?” Wild asked in amazement, and Time hopped out of Twilight’s arms, sniffing around at some of the materials on the tables.
“I don’t know, I... this is crazy,” Twilight spluttered, his eyes huge as he watched Wild pet the blupee. “This is like— this is like finding a unicorn, Wild! Most people don’t think they ever even existed!”
“Cool,” Wild grinned, still petting. They had a handful of kid books still around the house that had blupees in them, and Wild would recognize the heart-shaped face and golden eyes anywhere. He looked around for the latch of the cage, and frowned at the signs of wear on the bars, tiny useless scratches made on them. “...It looks like he’s been here a while.”
“I think you’re right,” Time said grimly, and Wild looked over, quickly biting his lip to stop himself from laughing at his father. His head had turned invisible, and he obviously hadn’t realized it.
“Did you find something, Dad?” Hyrule asked with a smile he tried to hide, and Time hummed, and probably nodded as well.
“Yes. These are all notes on genes and cloning... I think this scientist made our friend here.”
Wild looked at the blupee again, and it stared back, cocking its head to the side as it looked at him. It’s face was almost owlish, heart-shaped and paler blue than the rest of its fur. It’s body was more rabbit-like, and between the color of its fur and the odd antennae-ear things on its head, it really did look like something out of a storybook rather than a real animal.
Yet I’m standing here petting it, he thought in wonder, running a finger along silky fur again.
“Well gene stuff would explain some things I guess,” Twilight murmured, hesitantly offering his finger for the blupee to sniff. “I wonder how he did it.”
“Beats me. Maybe— hey wait a second, why is he trying to mess with us?” Wild asked, frowning at the thought he’d just had. “He can make extinct animals! He could be using this technology for all kinds of good sciencey stuff, why do illegal things with it?”
“I don’t know. But perhaps he wasn’t just interested in cloning back practically mythical species,” Time frowned, his fuzzy head shimmering back into view. “He did seem rather obsessed with our powers. I think it’s even more important that we go stop him.”
“Agreed,” Twilight said as he turned around, then accidentally ran headlong into a table and went sprawling onto the ground with a bang. “...Ugh. The sooner the better.”
Twilight stumbled to his feet with Hyrule’s assistance, and Wild found the lock on the cage, jiggling it to try and open the latch. But it was shut tight, and Wild didn’t have anything he could pick the lock with. Not that he knew how to pick locks anyway.
“Oh come on,” he groaned, and Time peered at the latch, furry brow furrowed.
“Hyrule, do you think you could freeze the lock off?” he asked. Hyrule hesitated, looking at his hands, and then the cage.
“Maybe?” he said uncertainly, and Twilight smiled at him as he clutched at a table.
“I bet you can do it Rulie, it’s just some metal. No finesse required or anything.”
“Yeah, all you have to do it get it so cold that it falls off!” Wild encouraged, and Hyrule moved forward with a shrug.
“I’ll try.”
Hyrule put a hand on the latch, then screwed his face up, a handful of flurries sprinkling from his fingers. Feathers of ice began to spread across the metal, and Wild watched in interest as they grew thicker, and colder too. He had to pull back a little at the intense temperature, and snow began drifting from Hyrule’s hands, piling by his feet.
The blupee stepped back as well, and the minutes ticked by, ice spreading across the cage and to the table and floor below them. Wild was about to ask if they should try something else when Hyrule reached out and grasped the latch, obviously unbothered by the cold. He yanked on it, and the entire door snapped loose, leaving a hole in the cage where it had been.
“Nice job!” Twilight said with a grin, and Hyrule blushed, setting the destroyed handle down.
Wild didn’t stick around to listen to Hyrule insist it was no big deal when their father also congratulated him, moving forward towards the blupee. It let out what sound like a relieved chirp, slowly padding over to him and nuzzling against his hand.
Wild carefully picked it up, relieved when it didn’t resist him. It was weird that it was so comfortable with him, since it didn’t even have hooves... though Mom did tend to be a calming presence on all animals. Or maybe it was calmed by a fellow rabbity-thing being here? It did keep looking over at Time.
Time noticed as well, and he padded closer, his nose wiggling. The blupee looked at him, then softly chirped, Time pricking his ears.
“Yes? I— yes, I can hear you,” he replied, and the blupee repeated its chirp in a slightly different tone. “No, I’m not one of your kind, I’m sorry. You— really?”
The blupee chittered some more, and Time hummed along as it chirped, looking thoughtful.
“You can understand him? What’s he saying?” Wild asked, and his father twitched an ear.
“Mostly just questions about us. They’re not exactly words, I’m only getting the gist of most of it. He’s relieved we’re here, though. He says you’re calming Wild.”
“Wild, calming?” Twilight said, and Wild gave him a light kick. Twilight grinned, and the blupee nibbled at Wild’s hand a bit, then settled itself with a little sigh in his arms, eyes narrowing to small slits.
“He looks tired,” Hyrule said as he studied the blupee, peering over Wild’s shoulder. “You think he’s sick?”
“No, I don’t think so. I think he’s just... weak from being in a cage,” Wild said. Somehow he had a feeling the blupee needed to get outside, and be around plants and trees instead of cold metal and sanitizer. “Don’t worry, you can come with us, little guy.”
“Is that a good idea?” Hyrule asked, and Time shook himself, all of him finally visible again.
“We could leave him here and retrieve him later,” he suggested, but Twilight frowned.
“What if somebody comes in and sees the cage broken? And decides to move him? He’ll be safer with us,” he argued. Time sighed again.
“All right. We’ll bring him, and hopefully find a safe spot to put him if there’s a fight.”
“Oh there’s gonna be a fight,” Wild said darkly.
His father gave him a look, and Wild cleared his throat, but didn’t take it back. He thought he deserved at least one solid punch to the scientist guy’s face. If nothing else for the look on Hyrule’s face when he’d first woken up and realized his powers were gone.
“I don’t think there’s anything else for us to do here, let’s head out,” Time decided, and they did one last quick sweep of the room, then headed back out to the hallway. Time directed them towards the elevator, and Wild kept the blupee securely in his arms, its eyes staying mostly closed.
Its fur was soft and silky, almost like velvet, and while it was warm, it wasn’t as warm as Wild would’ve expected. The golden antennae brushed against his face once, and they were as feathery as they looked. It really was a fantastical-looking creature, and Wild still couldn’t quite believe it was real.
And neither could Twilight, based on the fact that he spent most of his time staring at it.
“Say Dad, do you think we could have a pet?” Wild asked innocently, and Time shot him a look as they all piled in the elevator.
“No.”
Hyrule pushed the button for the top floor, and Time began talking strategy for when they found the scientist. Hyrule had to take him from Twilight since his legs were jittering weirdly again and their father’s voice kept shaking due to it, and between that and his squeakier than normal voice, his words were impossible to make out. Wild for once listened intently, idly petting the blupee as Time went on about strategy. Normally he’d only half-listen to the plan and go along with his pieces of it, but this was a big deal. Powers were on the line.
Wild didn’t even want to consider what would happen if they couldn’t get them back.
“We’ll try and touch base with the others, but if nobody is there, we’ll go alone,” Time finished, and shook out his fur. “Any questions?”
“Yeah, are uh... you going to fight as a bunny?” Twilight asked, and their father’s face grew extremely annoyed.
“Seeing as I can’t figure out how to turn back... yes.”
The elevator chimed as Twilight began asking if he wanted any help, the top floor reached, and Wild cracked his knuckles as the doors opened.
Then froze, an entire group of guards waiting for them on the other side.
Someone gasped, and Time shouted for them to get down, Wild tripping when he instinctively went to run forward and do something before the guards could react. Argh! Stupid powers!
The guards aimed their guns, and everybody dove for the floor, Wild mashing the elevator button to try and get the doors to close.
Nothing happened, and Hyrule scrambled forward and put out his hands, obviously trying to make a shield. All that came out was a huge blast of ice right as the first guards fired, but it actually did a good job of keeping their shots from hitting them, and Hyrule hurriedly worked on making the barrier more solid, trying to thicken the ice.
Twilight suddenly bolted forward, his legs flailing, but he managed to aim a punch at the first guard he went by, the man going sprawling from the hit to his chin. Wild scrambled over to where their dad was standing behind Hyrule, obviously trying to change back into a hylian if the look on his face was any indication.
“Ideas?!” Wild asked in a panic, Hyrule scrambling to keep his ice up and protecting them. “The elevator won’t close!”
“They must have disabled it, they were expecting us,” Time said in dismay, flinching as Twilight narrowly dodged a strike. “We’ll have to break past them somehow.”
“Oh, easy,” Wild muttered, ducking down as something whizzed past his head. The blupee squeaked in distress, and he held it a little tighter, making sure his suit was shielding it. “Maybe Twi can—”
Hyrule suddenly cried out beside them, making both their heads shoot up.
Hyrule stumbled backwards, hand held to the small part of his neck that wasn’t covered by his suit, and Wild saw a dart stuck there, brightly colored on the end.
Tranquilizer.
Well at least they don’t want us dead! Wild thought hysterically as Hyrule swayed on his feet.
His legs abruptly gave out on him, and Time rushed to his side, Twilight still running around wildly on the other side of the ice and doing his best to fight. Wild dove for Hyrule as well, hiding behind the thickest piece of ice there was, and the blupee chittered fearfully, huddling down in his arms.
“You’re okay, it’s just a tranquilizer,” Time reassured in a voice Wild could tell he was forcing to be calm, Hyrule’s eyes looking bleary and terrified. “You’ll wake up soon. It’ll be okay.”
Hyrule shook a little as Time stayed huddled beside him, keeping a paw resting on his head, and then his eyes rolled back and slipped close, body going limp.
“Dad?” Wild asked in a small voice, and Time slowly breathed out.
“See if you can get to Twilight, that’s your best bet,” he said, giving him a steady look, then raised his head, glaring at the guards.
Then he leapt out from their icy shield, throwing himself at the nearest guard with a shout. The man yelped and tried to shake him off, but Time clung on to his clothing, scratching and biting wherever he could reach.
Wild watched him with wide eyes, then shifted the blupee around so he was holding it with one arm. He tugged Hyrule’s limp form up with his other, grunting from the effort, but he wasn’t going to leave him here. Dad had said to get to Twilight, so that’s what Wild would do.
With the vague plan they’d had currently in shambles, Wild was pretty sure their best bet now was to make a break for it in the other direction, and hopefully Twilight could carry Hyrule better than he could until he woke up.
“Hold on Rulie,” Wild grunted.
He got as good of a grip as he could on his brother, and then bolted out from behind the ice, cursing his maddeningly slow legs. It felt like he was barely making any progress, and he growled in frustration as he half-dragged Hyrule across the floor.
If I had my powers I’d be on the other side of the room by now no problem, Hyrule would be safe, Twilight wouldn’t have to be tripping around all crazily, Dad wouldn’t—
A guard noticed him and shouted, Time and Twilight no longer capturing all of their attentions. Wild yelped and ducked under a shot that grazed the tip of his ear, and hurried even faster, dodging and swerving all while trying not to drop Hyrule or the blupee.
He’d never missed his speed more.
A sharp pain suddenly hit Wild in the neck, and he gasped, stumbling as he felt at it. Something was stuck there, and Wild abruptly caught his father’s eye from across the room, a cold feeling running up his neck.
“No!” Time shouted, his tiny body flickering rapidly in and out of sight, but Wild could barely focus on him, his legs wobbling out from under him.
He stumbled, going to his knees but still holding tight to Hyrule. The blupee jumped out of his arms, squeaking in distress, but the noise faded in and out in Wild’s ears, his vision starting to give out.
“Duskfall! Get out of here and go find the others!” Time’s voice shouted, Wild blearily noting Twilight’s hero name. Wonder why he used that...
“I’m not going to—whooaa—leave you guys!” Twilight shouted back, barely avoiding losing his balance as he dodged a shot. “Not like this!”
“That’s an order! We need backup, and you’re the only one of us who can run!”
“But Wild and—
Most of the guards were focused on Twilight now, but not all of them, and as Wild sank more fully to the floor, he thought he heard their father cry out in pain.
“No!”
More shouting rang past his ears, but Wild was beyond the point of understanding. His vision was growing darker by the second, his senses deserting him, and all he could see was a blob of movement where his father had been moments before.
I’m sorry, Dad.
With the last of his strength, Wild made sure Hyrule’s head was protected, and then he fell back into darkness.

WIP Challenge!
Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.  Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it!  And then tag as many people as you have WIPs.  I have deemed that this isn’t just for writing either.  Sketch titles?  Comics?  DnD campaigns?  If you have an unfinished project, it counts!!

if someone DID show up to try and claim Hyrule..... how would that go? (IAU)
imagine one of the villains tries to claim custody—
- hero-of-the-wolf
You figured out my rabbit hole XD I was wondering more or less the exact same thing, which is why I was annoyed at getting nowhere in my efforts in TRYING TO LOOK THAT THING UP
Anyway. Since Hyrule is actually adopted, I think it would be a lot more difficult to try and claim custody, but for drama’s sake let’s say it isn’t 😏
The only family he even vaguely remembers is his mother, and she gave him up for very specific reasons. I don’t think she would show up and want to take him back, seeing how content and safe it is where he is now, but she might visit sometimes. If she’s alive, anyway. More extended relatives (if there are any) would probably try harder to get him back, since they’d want him for all the wrong reasons.
I’m sure in the end Time and Malon would come out victorious since it’s obvious Hyrule is thriving and he has no love for these new people, but it’d be a fight. More stress heaped upon their poor family 😅
Now if a villain tried it...
Let’s say it’s somebody Hyrule lived with for only a bit, like from that gang he was stuck with for a couple months before being adopted. They want the healing kid back, so they track him down, get somebody who looks juuuust similar enough to Hyrule, forge a few documents, and show up with the authorities with a sob story about their poor dear son who was unrightly taken away from them.
Hyrule of course, is several shades lighter upon seeing this guy, and when asked by Legend if he’s actually related to him, Hyrule immediately says no. That doesn’t stop this guy though, and unfortunately he was thorough with his phony documents. He takes Hyrule away and they can’t do a thing to stop him.
(Dramatic scene where Hyrule gets pulled away even though he’s insisting he doesn’t want to go with this guy, and he’s clinging to Time and Malon and begging them not to let them take him, but they can’t, they have to just watch as Hyrule’s dragged away crying)
They’re all frantic to get Hyrule back, and the whole thing is beyond suspicious. Time smells a rat, Malon is on the warpath, and the moment they show Impa the documents and she realizes they’re fake, they’re going after Hyrule. Problem is he’s sort of disappeared, since the guys who got him skipped town the moment they could.
It probably doesn’t take longer than a week, but it still takes way too long to track him down, and they’re all disasters by the time they finally find him. Most if not all of the other boys go sneak along with them when they finally figure out where he is, and they have to fight to get him back and get him out and it’s just a whole complicated thing.
And the moment they find him they hug him to death and Time swears this is never going to happen again.

Thanks @nancyheart11 and @skyloftian-nutcase :)
I've been hopping around wips a lot... I think this IAU thing was the last thing I worked on...
“Do you remember your parents?”
Wild blinked, and looked over at where Hyrule was lying in the grass next to him. His expression hadn’t changed, and he was still looking up at the sky, but there was a weird look in his eyes.
“You mean what’s my first memory of them?” Wild asked, and Hyrule breathed out.
“No, I didn’t mean Time and Malon. I meant like... your birth parents.”
“Oh.”
Wild didn’t reply at first, and looked back at the clouds above their heads.
“I... don’t,” he said finally, in a quiet voice. “Not at all. But um, Dad said they died when I was small and I was living with my Grandpa, so that... might be part of it. But I don’t... remember him either.”
Ahh um. Tags. You know what, go crazy, anyone can hop on if they wanna.

Febuwhump Day 1 — Helpless
Day one! Just a reminder that I’m sticking to my lu Incredibles au for this, which is more or less a superhero au (if you need more explanation, feel free to ask!). I’m not going to do every day of febuwhump this year, but I’m going to do a bunch! I’m excited to share what I’ve been working on :)
Also me and @thepinklink collaborated on things this year— she’s made some fantastic art to go with the fics! :D
You can see today’s here!
Anyway, here’s some more Hyrule backstory, as suggested by a couple people. Warning for some child abuse (nothing extreme, but it is there) and mentioned past injuries.
Read on ao3
————————————————————
Link clutched his bag to his chest as he crept down the hallway, heart thudding in his ears as he stepped shakily past a door with a faint light shining out from under it.
It didn’t open once he was past though, no voices coming from inside, and Link softly exhaled, continuing on his way.
He made extra care to avoid the boards he knew creaked, even though they were hard to spot with the only source of light being a sliver of uncertain moonlight shining in through a window. He had most of the boards memorized at least, but it was still tricky, and the bit of snow piled on the sill wasn’t helping matters.
Link bit his lip as he stepped past the stairs and the rotten board to the side that nobody had replaced, and squinted through the dark for the door that led to the street outside. It was right over here somewhere, but the faint light from the window didn’t reach this far.
“Where do you think you’re going?!”
Link’s heart shot straight up into his throat as a hand grabbed his arm and yanked him backwards, forcing him to drop the small bag he’d had clutched in his arms. His meager possessions spilled out on the floor, and Link swallowed thickly as he looked up at who’d caught him, a man named Carok.
“Well?” he asked sharply, and Link scrambled for an excuse, his exhausted mind not up to its usual speed.
“I-I was just... I wanted to go outside?” he stuttered.
“In this weather?” Carok snorted, glaring at him. “No... I don’t think so. You know the Eyes of Ganon don’t take kindly to deserters, brat.”
But I’m not deserting! I’m not one of you! You just won’t let me leave! Link wanted to wail, but his throat had grown too tight for him to speak anymore.
“We give you a home, a dry place to sleep, food and shelter and a purpose, and you repay us by running away?” Carok spat, and Link looked down at his dirty boots, trying not to cry. Crying always made it worse. He wouldn’t cry.
Carok glared at him, and dragged Link back down the hallway, ignoring his weak struggles to get away.
He’d been so close.
He’d thought everyone was asleep, and since he’d had to heal that one guy’s hand (his stomach still rolled thinking of it), he assumed they would think he was still too tired to try anything. And admittedly, he was exhausted, but this was the first chance he’d gotten in ages to try and get away.
He’d only been stuck with this group for a few months, but he wanted out.
And he’d completely screwed it up.
Carok opened a door and shoved him inside, and Link’s hands grew clammy as he looked around, realizing he was in the cellar they always locked him in when he’d done something really wrong.
“Boss’ll deal with you tomorrow,” Carok growled as he slammed the door and locked it. “Take some time to think about how grateful you should be that we take care of you.”
Link didn’t bother replying that they hadn’t even remembered to feed him today.
He whimpered as Carok stomped away, and he sat down, tucking his arms around his knees and curling up into a tight ball. He’d try and get out, but he’d been thrown in here enough times to know that it wasn’t possible. No windows, and no doors aside from the one he’d just been shoved through.
Just dark and oppressive, and even colder then where Link usually slept.
He sniffled, allowing the tears he’d been fighting to keep back come out now that he was alone. Pain throbbed out from his arm where he’d been grabbed, and Link lit his palm up just a little, rubbing his hand over the worst of it while tears slipped down his nose.
Bruises were tricky though, and he could only ease the soreness a little. Not to mention they hated when he used his powers on himself, and he was still worn from using his healing so much, so Link only soothed the worst of it before letting his light fade, the darkness falling over the room once more.
Link rested his head on his knees, and closed his eyes, barely able to tell the difference from having them open.
He just wanted to leave. The other places he remembered living had been bad, but this one was millions worse. His old caretakers may have forced him to heal every little scrape and prick of a finger, and gone between ignoring and screaming at him at the drop of a hat, but at least the worst injury he’d ever healed there had been a broken arm.
Here he had to deal with gunshots, and knife wounds, and horribly burnt hands that were nearly blackened from—
Link swallowed thickly, trying not to be sick again. He’d already thrown up once after he’d healed those burns, and didn’t want to smell it all night.
Once he managed to get his stomach to settle, Link thought back to his failed escape, dread chilling his bones at Carok’s parting words. The boss wasn’t forgiving at all, and Link really didn’t want to be in the same room as him when he found out he’d tried to leave. He still had the scar on his back from the last time he’d messed up.
Link wiped his nose, wrapping his hands tighter around his knees.
He was sick of living like this, stuck with people who only wanted his powers, constantly scared of what he’d be forced to do. It made living on the streets look like fun in comparison, and that was saying something.
A sudden exhaustion washed over him, and Link buried his face in his knees.
He hated them. He hated this place, and the people who kept him here. And he so badly wanted to hate his powers that had gotten him trapped here too, but he... he couldn’t.
Despite it all, Link liked having powers. They made him feel special, and fixing injuries always felt right, deep in his chest. It was useful too, even when it wore him out and made him feel dizzy, and Link really did like them. He just... wished they hadn’t gotten him here.
Link looked back at his bruised arm, and something hot burned in his middle as he thought again of escape.
This was only a setback. He wasn’t going to stay here, he was going to get out, and never do anything he didn’t want to ever again! He’d find somewhere where he’d never be cold, or hungry, or hit when he did something wrong, he’d go wherever he wanted!
Link wiped his face with his sleeve, and settled in for a cold night, thoughts already going towards another escape attempt when he got out.
He would get away from here.
And when he did, he’d finally be safe.
