in october of last year, ibushi was interviewed by nagata yûji, a older professional wrestler if you do not know. many interesting things are spoken about, surprisingly unfiltered considering most of these types of videos are usually heavily scripted. thanks to joes translations (who i will source) we get a clearer understanding on what is being said.

here ibushi is asked if golden lovers will ever make a return and ibushi says yes very quickly, so sure that he even makes a dramatic point to look at the camera. ibushi goes on to say that they are both are each others best rivals and friends (lover, etc) and that in each others mind if one was to come back the other would want to come back as well.

nagata points out that “oh! that guy is a real trooper (kenny). you got yourself a good partner, a good friend there,” and ibushi replies with “he really is.”

in reference to this is that, earlier in the interview ibushi talks about losing the heart for wrestling as a whole and thinking of stopping in general. but kenny is persistent as always, asking ibushi to come to aew. after a few failed attempts ibushi offers to fly out and spend time with kenny to which kenny of course says yes too. what ibushi did not expect was for kenny to be like “its now or never, do or die ibushi” and basically ‘tricks’ (playful connotation) ibushi into coming with him to an aew show and have him sit backstage to watch him wrestle.

watching kenny, watching these performances, ibushi gets that spark again, that feeling that he is seeing kenny work so hard that …why isn’t he doing the same? (that playful rivalry coming back). ibushi signs to aew and the rest is history too now.

what i want to add to this is how crazy, how insane it is that the parallels between the two lovers. in 2006 when kenny omega lost hope in wrestling, in his dream, he found kota ibushi, he found his matches and fell in love with the sport (him). now we are years later, 2023, after so much and now its ibushi he has fallen out of love of wrestling and here is kenny, pushing, showing, and getting ibushi to fall back in love with it. how romantic is that?
