end of the year, so time for the art summary

yeah...my drawing amount has been steadily decreasing as the years go by, hasn't it...idk why i didn't sketch anything march/april (i mean Roizen didn't die until like...june i think? so that's not the excuse), but you know, for the constant feeling of "uhg i'm not drawing enough" i was happy to see that i did do more art than i thought. and yeah, sept is allowed since i decided after visiting my boyfriend over labor day that i was going to go to TexRen, so had to prep for that

but otherwise, yeah it's actually been a pretty big year for me. i got a boyfriend at the end of last year, and we're still going strong, he's great; we're talking about me going back to visit next year...and maybe staying. like said, i went on a vacation to go see him, and that gave me the confidence to go to TexRen a month later; i took 2 big girl vacations by myself (as in without family).

my online friday night game group finally finished the 2ish year long Runelords campaign (i joined in the middle of book 1/the start of book 2, so not entirely sure how long exactly it ran for), and we just started a new Crimson Throne campaign. my online saturday night game group is still going strong; this year we started Phandelver and finished it (sadly Roizen died in the middle, but that gave us Varya who i've still yet to draw weirdly enough), and are now on Vecna (with the new '24 rules; it's been interesting). i restarted my Carrion Crown campaign on monday nights after a 5 year hiatus...only for it to be killed off a second time in oct when the whole group went on hiatus. got a wed afternoon game group with my sibling and his friends...but that is really unstable and we haven't played since oct either. i also sorta joined an online sunday night game group, but that's not that regular...but the main big deal is that it's me interacting with new people and i was far less anxious about it.

i also took an art commission job, and am considering trying to open up for those more regularly...

so here's to another year improving as we go i guess. try to get back into being better about art, and keep on working on improving my self confidence with well everything. my year might be coming to an end, but it was a good run that i hope to keep going.

Varya's head turned to the laughter to see Celegorm and Quilda, of course the shore ment nothing he knew that Quilda was with that idiot, he was jealous of him just concerned he may hurt his new friend which was likely to happen given who Celegorm was and his Father, Fëanorian's are all the same and only one of them had a brain cell and didn't do what they did out of resentment to his father, maybe that was why he was friends with him.

Varya passed without either of them seeing and entered the library and sat down at Faeron's desk the ellon would not mind if he borrowed a quill and some parchment and he had plenty of ink it wouldn't be a loss.

he glanced up as the door opened and he heard the final call of goodbye from Celegorm to Quilda and Quilda to Celegorm he bit down his cheek as he watched her approach.

Quildalótien looked somewhat flustered and blushed as she approached– after having spend the morning with a heavily flirty Tyelkormo.

She tried to breath properly – she didn’t want anything more sabotaging her friendship with Varyano. She subconsciously straightened – nervousness getting the best of her.

She quietly cleaned her throat and greeted Faeron politely.

“Good afternoon, Calistefinwë”

She smiled interacting well with him.

Quildalótien then turned to Varyano and tried to muster her best smile.

2. what was the first moment that they knew they were in love with their love interest?

they'll give some stupid, innocuous date or something but the fact of the matter is they basically fell in love the second they laid eyes on each other. especially because their first interaction was immediately followed up by varya's twin brother saying "no touchy" and these two fuckers cannot STAND being told what to do.

7. favorite date activity?

staring adoringly into each other's eyes, finding reasons to touch each other an obnoxious (frankly, criminal) amount, making out covered in blood. they're simple folk

8. what are their most prominent memories of each other?

roman's would probably be that time she shot a man in the face at point blank range like, six times (sexy). varya's would probably be either when he sent her an exorbitant amount of flowers to piss her brother off (sexy) OR that time he. yknow. shot her dad.

17. their ways of expressing their love.

like any good feral house cat, roman expresses love by killing pesky things for varya. varya expresses love by taking care of all of the tedious day to day tasks, but especially in dealing with his moods. she is exceptionally well-versed in sorting him out and calming him down!

24. is their any moment that happens between them that you know happens and just makes you melt?

UGH. YES. the night that varya's dad nikita's kidnapped her and roman has that moment where he's got to like. figure out how to get her safely out of harm's way and he threatens to unload a round in ilarion ??? because he knows nikita loves ilya so much ??? even though varya loves ilya too ??? and i just think that's so sexy of them because roman is so evil and awful and he would totally just kill the only other person varya loves to keep her ??? anyway im fine

roman refuses to learn russian for his wife or his kids, but consistently he can still tell when she's talking shit about him because of her tone of voice. yes, roman sionis, man who is perhaps the most absolutely obsessed with himself, has memorized the cadence of his wife's voice to know when she is talking shit. that's romance

chekhovOS (2021)

What if fictional characters were stuck in an infernal, hopeless time loop, a cross between “No Exit” and being on hold with Delta Air Lines? You can imagine that the siblings in “Three Sisters” would like the opportunity to stop talking about going to Moscow and finally — finally! — do it.

Such is the premise of the Arlekin Players Theater’s ingenious interactive show “chekhovOS/an experimental game/,” which takes place in a virtual realm where the Russian playwright’s characters rise up against their creator (portrayed by Mikhail Baryshnikov).

“We are tired of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov’s plays being performed, and we are tired of being perpetually unhappy in his world,” they tell the audience. “We beg of you … let us move on.”

The theatergoers, who are watching on Zoom, can vote to set Vanya and company free or can, for example, decide that this time around, the cherry orchard will not be cut down.

Or can they? More on this later. (A review about a meta hybrid of theater and gaming can’t be expected to be entirely linear.)

This conceit could fit a number of writers and texts (“Pick 1 for ‘to be,’ 2 for ‘not to be’”), but the Chekhoverse is a perfect setting to tackle issues of agency, or lack thereof, because the characters are so often in a rut, paralyzed by forces of their own making: They pine, hesitate and waffle, deprived of options by wistful regrets and elusive daydreams.

The Boston company Arlekin Players and the director Igor Golyak had already come up with one of the virtual era’s most acclaimed productions with last year’s “State vs. Natasha Banina,” but “chekhovOS” — part of the 2021 International Online Theater Festival — is a leap forward in storytelling and execution.

The previous show’s lead, Darya Denisova, returns as the only live actor, portraying Natasha, who in “Three Sisters” is married to the siblings’ brother. (The other live performer, introduced as “a fish called Olga,” does not contribute much and does not appear frustrated by having to swim aimlessly in a glass bowl.)

In segments written by Tom Abernathy, Natasha serves as host, introducing situations and dramatis personae, and interacting with the audience. Occasionally, Baryshnikov turns up (in a recording) to read some of Chekhov’s letters in subtitled Russian.

The audience votes on which play it wishes to see. At a recent show, it was “The Cherry Orchard,” presented in taped chunks and set in a stylish digital netherworld. There is a good chance you’ll end up seeing it, too (Natasha even jokes about it), just as the Chekhov characters are unable to deviate from their prescribed paths. This adds another layer to the idea of fiction as a deterministic software.

The show’s master stroke is that the scenes from the play are a lot better than they needed to be. Anna Baryshnikov (Mikhail’s daughter, and currently in the Apple TV+ series “Dickinson”) is a revelation as the young Varya, but the main draw is Jessica Hecht as the impoverished orchard owner, Ranevskaya. Hecht, who is simply unable to give a conventional performance in anything, often looks up in space; the character is distracted, dreamy, maybe not entirely there. Whether you are new to “The Cherry Orchard” or have seen it a half-dozen times, this take is intriguing, absorbing. It left me wanting more, preferably live.

And so, as in other devised, self-contained universes that keep you coming back for more, like a casino or an Apple device, Chekhov has the last word.

While most of us were hunkered down at home during the past pandemic year, Igor Golyak, founder and artistic director of the Needham's Arlekin Players Theatre, has been traveling the world, at least online.

The creator of last year’s wildly successful digital production, “State vs. Natasha Banina,” Golyak's newest project, “chekhovOS/an experimental game,” is being presented on Sunday evenings through June 20 and a June 24 performance as part of the 2021 International Online Theater Festival. Admission is free, but reservations are required.

Inspired by Anton Chekhov’s “The Cherry Orchard,” Golyak’s version marries scenes from the play with projections, gaming techniques, actors both live and on film, to present an interactive experience for the viewers.

The title, “chekhovOS,” refers to the "operating system" that Chekhov has created for the world of his play. “The feeling of loss and disconnection is like the world of the pandemic,” Golyak said.

In addition to radically rearranging Chekhov’s work, Golyak has added the playwright as commentator, portrayed by no less a celebrity than dancer-choreographer-actor Mikhail Baryshnikov, speaking excerpts from Chekhov’s letters in Russian (with subtitles in English at the bottom of the screen). Baryshnikov watched “State vs. Natasha Banina” four times and became a fan of Golyak’s theatrical vision, along with actress Jessica Hecht (“Breaking Bad,” “The Sinner”), who also signed on to work with the director.

The members of the audience appear via Zoom in boxes at the rear of the setting, which represents the inside of a computer, and are asked to determine the course of the action. Their vote each night will decide whether the main symbol of Chekhov’s play, the fabled cherry orchard, will be chopped down or allowed to remain. They also dictate the order in which the scenes of the play will be shown by the actors, guided by a live narrator, Natasha (Darya Denisova), who has strayed in from another of Chekhov’s works, “The Three Sisters.”

Chekhov wrote his last play, “The Cherry Orchard,” in 1903 when he was dying of tuberculosis. The aristocratic Madame Ranevskaya (Hecht), the owner of her family’s rural estate, has returned after five years in Paris to find that her home will be auctioned off to pay her debts unless she agrees to sell the property to a developer who will cut down the cherry orchard to build country houses for tourists. Ranevskaya had fled to Paris shortly after her husband died and her young son, Grisha, was killed.

In Chekhov’s play, the historical context is clear. Ranevskaya is portrayed among a cast of 13 other characters, plus extras, in her house and from the neighborhood who represent the various classes of Russian society at the turn of the 20th century. Like Ranevskaya and her brother Gaev (Mark Nelson), the gentry does not understand that they must change to survive. Their servants, especially the ancient Fiers (Jeffrey Hayenga), long for the old ways, but upstarts like the brash, successful businessman Lopakhin (Nael Nacer), a child of a former serf family on the estate, represent the new order.

According to Golyak, the major theme for “chekhov OS” concerns the characters, now stripped down to a cast of six (plus narrator Natasha), “trying to escape the world where Chekhov has trapped them forever. They want to break free, to be happy but people have not changed. We do not know how to get rid of the past. Chekhov’s characters are stuck like we are stuck.”

At the end, the characters break the proverbial fourth wall of the theatrical illusion to beg the viewers to help them. The actors are superb in their roles, including Melanie Moore as Ranevskaya’s teenage daughter, and Anna Baryshnikov as Varya, an adopted daughter, who is in love with Lopakhin but is spurned.

Fen’s ideal date would be something where she could focus on the activity when she gets too shy to say anything. She has a hard time talking to people, especially those she is interested in, so a date where a silence is ok is her ideal!

Luci’s ideal date would be doing something interactive! Maybe something like an escape room or volunteer work is very much her type of date. She is a busy body and loves to be doing things, so a date where she could spend time with the other person is the best of both worlds!

Nellie’s ideal date would be something lowkey kinda cheesy, like sitting under the stars and having dinner on the hood of her car. She’s also a little awkward, but she doesn’t think to plan a date strategically.

Varya’s ideal date would be something like going to a museum or seeing a play! Something very artsy would be nice. Before her embrace, she wouldn’t really have time to date since she was a professional ballerina. Now, she can enjoy more artsy outings. Don’t take her to see a ballet show or else she might start crying.

you know i think my dialogue is pretty snappy? also i think i hit comedy beats pretty well. i try to write as i like to read and a lot of my favorite authors are quite quippy/smarmy/deadpan horror-humor so that tends to bleed into my writing quite a bit!

ahhhh this one is really hard!!!! because i love them all for very different reasons. i do think probably my absolute favorite would have to be roman/varya, just because they were the first pairing i was able to write + complete a full length fic for. they're kind of my golden babies. they're also so disgustingly in love it's like tooth-rotting to write them interacting. close second would ofc be ell/john (for obvious reasons) and then isolde/joe for the god complex.

Let’s talk reality TV

I don’t watch much TV, but let’s just say if it’s on TLC, I have probably watched it or at least heard of it. It seems the only TV channels I watch are CBS, The Weather Channel, and TLC. I have cable, but that is all I watch. Why? Not sure. I don’t gravitate too much outside of my comfort zone.

90 day fiancé before the 90 days

Oh my are any of these couples going to make it to forever or even to get married? I doubt it.

I totally think Yolanda is being catfished. She has never had a video call with this man.  The minute she questions him, she gets a threatening messages, and then a random woman contacts her saying her lover’s account has been hacked.  The mysterious woman is in contact with Williams, so if he can have contact with her why can he not contact Yolanda. I want to scream at the TV,  “Lady Move On.”

I feel really bad for David when can’t find Lana. I suspected she wasn’t real because he can only contact her through a website that costs money. It was so sad that he went to her address and a man who didn’t know her answered.  It was a really sad moment.

Lisa and Usman remind me of Michael and Angela.  He is going to want children, she cannot give them to him.  I only think he is interested in her to get money from her.  I think Usman is a yahoo boy.

Erika and Stephanie are two different types of people. People say opposites attract, but at some point you have to have common ground to make a relationship work.  These two are totally different on so many levels. For example,  Erika thinks it is fine to hook up with her friends and Steph doesn’t. I also don’t hook up with my friends.  EWWW>… that is gross!!

Ash and Avery .  Ash comes across as a frat boy, a bro man. What does that mean? He thinks his poop doesn’t stink.  He thinks he knows so much better than everyone else.  He thinks he is really helping women find and keep a man. I think he is full of it.  I don’t like him. I don’t like the way he speaks to Avery.  He seems to talk down to her.  He puts outs a vibe that he is better than her.  I don’t think he will really move to the US and bring his son along. I don’t think his ex-wife is going to be on board for that.   I have conflicted feelings about Avery spending her money to visit Ash while being a single mom of two kids. I don’t understand why Ash wasn’t able to visit Avery in the US.

Geoffrey and Varya is a complicated situation. I kind of think Varya is looking at Geoffrey as her way to get to the US.  Evidence… she stopped working on her home when she met Geoffrey.  Now I think she is having second thoughts because she found out Geoffrey is a felon. I guess we will see what happens.

Rose and Ed. Oh my…. I feel bad for Rose that she lives in such primitive conditions. I cannot image what it would be like to sleep on a mat on the floor, no roof over head or take a shower with a bucket. I do question how much she really loves Ed.  There is the huge age difference.  I wonder if she is only looking at him as a way to the US because when they interact I don’t see in her eyes that she really cares for him.  I don’t think this will work out because she wants more kids and he doesn’t.

Darcey,  I cannot type Darcey and Tom because they are over, at least they were as far as the last episode.  I don’t care for Darcey’s fashion choices, by that I mean cover the girls.  I worry about how needing she is coming across and the impact that will have on other women and her own children. I do like that she finally stood up to Tom. No woman deserves to be treated that way. He calls her fat as she walks away from him in a restaurant, then shows up at her door with a love note. Heck no buddy! I would have slammed the door in your face too.

Right now truck drivers are essential workers.

Ofeefee is not the most social of snakes, but he does like to get up high and sneakily spy on me. Otherwise, he wants no interaction (I only really handle him when I need to put him back in his enclosure). The jungle gym is coming in handy for that, I guess. He decided to come out a little after lights out last night (8 pm) and would not let me put him up until a little after midnight. He warms himself up by wrapping around Varya and Viper's heat lamps when he gets cold (they have a night drop, so the lamps are not hot enough to burn him. I've checked with my temp gun), so he had energy to spare 🙄. He also only fell off the window sill once. Improvement!

she grew up in an orphanage in tyvia and never met any of her bio family. one of the ladies that worked was the closest thing she had to a mother but she died when varya was 13 :( sokolov is kinda of a parental figure to her because he mentored her when she came to dunwall but she hates him lol (idk exactly how they met yet i have to figure that out)

Ethnicity/Species: She is a Kilavrei, which are alien snake people. They are pretty cool. 

Birthplace and Birthdate: The fourth day of Viremnon, the first month. She was born in Saissenfyr, which is a midsized town in the north of Kilavrede.

Guilty Pleasures: The Vyxes are absolutely positively not allowed to leave the temple for any reason, especially not to go buy yarn and especially especially not so they can then knit through the entire council meeting that they are presiding over. This is not stopping her. 

Phobias: Ok so Kilavrede, the planet she lives on, is a desert world and as such she does not interact with a lot of water. She doesn’t like it at all. Also small insects creep her out. If it’s not a cricket the size of a horse, she wants nothing to do with it.
