Luke didn’t know whether to be nervous or slightly flattered that he was receiving looks from the window which were impossible to ignore.

Dressed in an unbuttoned blue flannel which he’d borrowed from one of his siblings and a plain white t- shirt underneath, he wonders whether he should have opted for something more formal instead when he sees slightly mocking smirks and giggles from your fashion expert siblings.

Or maybe it was too formal.

He was unsure as to which way round he had it wrong.

And then there were the flowers. What would be more romantic, fancy, cellophane- wrapped roses or something simpler with just a satin bow? After consulting Katie Gardner, his brother’s girlfriend, about his dilemma she had snipped off some lush, crimson roses for him so the stems were short and wrapped around with a thin piece of white ribbon. Only now he realised how stupid he probably looked, a small gift so classy and somewhat luxurious and in an attire so casual.

It wasn’t an everyday occurrence for Luke Castellan to feel hot all over and want the ground to swallow him whole, but there were few and rare occurrences. You were dressed in a sundress of pure white, that was snatched in places and hung loose in others perfectly. Your skin was smooth and glassy, reflecting the glow of the white fabric. Lips curled upwards into an easygoing smile, painted a pretty bubblegum pink colour Luke often associated with your personality. Luke’s half- tempted to grab your hand and run away from the teasing. “Uh, you-”

“Yeah, what he said! Treat her well!” Lacy’s head pops out next to her brother’s, nails half- painted where they grip the window frame. “And be back before eight, okay? We have a girls’ night planned! No forgetting, or I swear I will interrupt whatever frisky business-”

“Okay, okay!” You interrupt, vivacious laughter escaping your throat. “That’s enough, I think we get the message.” You slip your delicate hand into his, looking up at him through long eyelashes. “Right?”

“Yeah, yeah,” Luke mutters with an abashed smile, relieved to be saved from the incessant torture and just wanting to get to the destination of your date as soon as possible. Just as shyly, he holds the flowers out to you, awaiting your approval.

You take them. “For me? They’re so lovely.” You inhale them, eyes fluttering closed at the fragrance. “Thanks, so much!” You reach up on tiptoes, even on white heels, and quickly kiss his cheek.

As the two of you walk away, hand in hand, Luke curses at the way his cheeks flush at the titters and hollers of your siblings under his breath.

Everybody sit down and strap in, 'cause I have a doozy of a tale to share.

I've had anxiety for literally as long as I can remember. I've had periods of my life where it was so intense it became legitimately life-threatening (don't worry I promise this is going somewhere funny). And this was really bizarre because I have zero childhood trauma. Like, my family life is so idyllic it's almost comical. Therapists would do abuse screenings on me and look utterly baffled when I told them everything was fine at home. They'd interrogate my parents just to make sure I wasn't lying. I have one friend who I'm fairly sure believed I was just severely gaslighting myself when I said my family was great, school wasn't too stressful, and I've never lived in a dangerous neighborhood or experienced poverty.

Anyways, despite no one being able to figure out where my disorder was coming from, my doctors were able to help me manage the symptoms so that I would like, not die, and actually be able to finish high school. Which was awesome. Now fast forward to late 2021. My big sister (who has also had intense anxiety her whole life which no one could figure out why) is finishing up her doctorate and getting her physical therapist's license. Somehow, during all her studying and schooling, she finds out about this thing called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which explains literally everything that was going on with us. EDS is a connective tissue disorder that kinda fudges up your body in a whole bunch of little ways, including dysautonomia (episodes of very fast heart-rate that kick your body into fight-or-flight mode), and hypermobility (unusual flexibility). It's a spectrum disorder, so the severity of symptoms vary from person to person, but we definitely checked almost every box on the diagnostic list. My sister went to see a specialist, and yep, she was diagnosed EDS positive. She immediately calls my mom and goes "I know what's wrong with Niki" (thanks, sis, that's real encouraging lol). Initially we're like "okay Katie, that's nice" because honestly this kind of sounds like jumping at shadows, but I go in to see the specialist anyways just to make sure.

One consultation and diagnosis later, and suddenly my entire life makes perfect sense.

Now we get to the funny part. See, the diagnosis stuff happened in early 2022. So by the time late 2023 comes around and we're looking for a new dog (I promise this is relevant), we've been riding that chronic illness diagnosis for a while. Once again, my sister, ever the proactive one, decides she's going to help us get a new dog. She scours the adoption website, sends us photos of the cutest dogs available, and helps us make a decision. This is how we got Beverly, who has been an unstoppable force of chaos in our lives ever since we signed the papers (but she's also really cute so she can get away with it). Now on top of being a very excitable and anxious pupper, Beverly's got a weird little gimp in her hindquarters, which makes her sit all splayed-out and funny-looking, and while it doesn't seem to be causing her pain, we take her to a vet to get it checked out. Vet finds absolutely nothing. X-rays are taken and examined. Still nothing. At this point, they go "well, we could try a CT scan of her brain, which would run about $5,000, and maybe we could find something--" but my parents are already packing this dog into the car like "well that is a HARD nope." So we decide, look, Beverly seems happy and healthy, and those gimpy legs don't seem to bother her, so we'll just leave it be until it becomes clearer what's wrong with her because we do NOT have a cool $5,000 to throw around here.

Readers more astute than my family and I will likely have already figured out where this is going.

This morning, my mom is looking at Beverly sitting in her funny sprawled-out way, and something in her brain goes "wait...weird physical symptoms with no tracible cause that vets can see..." She does a bit of googling. Can dogs have EDS/Hypermobility? Yes. Yes they can. And the listed symptoms describe Beverly to a T.

So not only is my sister the one to finally figure out what's wrong with me, she also unknowingly got us a dog who has the exact same chronic condition as us. Meanwhile my poor dad, who is the only Normal Person in our house, is coming to terms with the fact that he is apparently just fated to always love chronically ill people and animals, and there's absolutely nothing he can do about it.

I think I'm going to keep all might and all for one but that's about it, mainly for narrative reasons since I can't think of characters to replace them and I don't really feel like coming up with OCs. So they're Canadian now, so is UA.

Actually yeah, I think I'm just replacing the main characters (1-A and a couple of pro heroes like endeavour and Aizawa) in this. So let's just say that because of a quirk centuries ago, certain countries got merged together like Japan and Canada (Japanada lol), England and India etc

Like in Bnha, they start off in their first year. So the list of those at UA at the beginning of the year (Inc quirks):

Class 1-A (hero course)

Owen- fat absorption- fatgums quirk, he can absorb kinetic energy when attacked and release it as his own attack

Alejandro- somnambulist- midnight's quirk, he releases an aroma that causes sleep/drowsiness all depending on how attracted the other person/people are to him

DJ- frosting+ one for all- originally his quirk is that he can harden and soften frosting but when he gets OFA, it's upgraded to other sugar based substances. Then there's the added strength from OFA

Geoff- airwalk- he can solidify air and walk on it, though he can only solidify small areas at a time

Cody- sugar rush- when ingesting sugar, he can increase his agility, speed and stamina

Justin- statue- can turn himself into an impenetrable stone statue at will

Harold- superglue- his sweat can be used as glue, he can control the viscosity and strength of the glue

Tyler- magnetic force- he can manipulate the magnetic force between two objects

Ezekiel- omnilinguism- can understand any language spoken to him, including animals

Trent- melody- when he sings, he can create illusions that hold unless struck with excessive force

Bridgette- water control- can control a mass of water to a certain extent within a specific weight limit

Sierra- love- can offer a 1.5% boost to anyone she loves and professes this to (like la brava's quirk which was so underrated)

Leshawna- enlargement- she can enlarge parts of her body at will

Katie - weight- can alter the weight of those she touches

Sadie - gravity- can alter the gravity in a specific radius

Lindsay - shockwave- she can cause a shockwave just by clapping (well, it's actually whenever she hits something but she thinks it's only clapping)

Beth- Chimera- she can take on the attributes of 3 animals at once for 5 minutes

Heather- hair manipulation- she can manipulate the strength and length of her hair

Gwen- bat- it's literally just a bat mutation, like ears and wings etc

Courtney- accuracy- as long as she can see a target, any projectile she releases will hit it

1-F (Support course)

Noah- analysis - able to analyse a person

Teachers

Chris- voice- can manipulate the strength of his vocal chords meaning there is no limit to the volume or pitch he can reach (principal)

Chef- null- can nullify the effects of quirks within a certain radius, depending on what the quirk is (heroics/law teacher, 1-A homeroom teacher)

Blaineley- sparkle- she can create small patches of light (like sparkles) that vary in strength (art teacher/heroic persona consultant)

Molotov- IQ- Nedzu but actually just a bear, he has a high IQ and acts like a human (languages teacher, 1-F homeroom teacher)

Hero's POV

So the USJ is where they are introduced to Duncan (Quirk- spontaneous combustion, he can combust flammable liquids within a given area) as one of the minor villains, he gets taken in as one of 1-A for rehabilitation because of Courtney.

This is also where the idea of a traitor is revealed and the dorms are brought into play. This is mainly because Chris is more reactive than Nedzu is and more likely to want to save face.

The sports festival is where Noah is introduced. Afterwards, he is the one they visit for costume upgrades and quirk advice. Alejandro becomes fast friends with him during this time while he tries to find a costume that would work and not hinder his quirk. Heather wins the festival.

Stain arc includes DJ, Duncan and Harold. Hawk arrives instead of Endeavour and his feathers are able to catch fire.

The training camp arc is where they are introduced to Izzy (current alias- E-scope Quirk- Kitsune, power of a Kitsune including transformation although she currently only has 2 tails), a villain (instead of Dabi) attacking the camp with the LOV. She is fighting Owen, Beth and Trent when she gets sent back to the base. Courtney and Heather are kidnapped.

At the Kamino ward arc, after All Might finally loses OFA and the dust has settled, they find out that AFO has gone missing.

AFO turns up dead a couple days later. Not long after, the rest of the LOV (apart from Izzy) are found tied up outside of a police office, unable to use their quirks properly.

At the same time as that, it is revealed that a certain support student has gone missing and when they looked into it, it turned out that all of 'his' records were falsified.

So how's that for Alenoah angst? You spend a lot of time getting to know someone and trusting them more than your hero classmates only for it to turn out they weren't even a real person. And then, the only thing left behind is a note in your dorm room saying sorry and a wig.

Alejandro vows to figure out who the hell 'Noah' really is, no matter what.

And then the Shie Hassaikai Arc happens, a sudden influx of information on the Shie Hassaikai is brought to the heroes in charge of the case out of nowhere, including about Eri.

This is where they're introduced to Eva (current alias- iron woman Quirk- dragon, has the ability to transform into a dragon and has dragon attributes like impenetrable skin) at the yakuza compound, working for Overhaul. At the end of the fight, the quirk destroying bullets are destroyed and neither Eva or Eri are accounted for. Overhaul is sent to Tartarus.

And then, the main deviation.

After the fall of the Shie Hassaikai, there is an emergence of three villains taking advantage of the chaos caused by the power vacuum of Overhaul's, All Might's and AFO's defeat.

Team E-scope- origins

As anyone who's seen bnha knows, the hero public safety commission is corrupt.

So, as well as the 'hero training' programme, the president at the time wanted to ensure that they could have perfect, ideal, powerful quirks at their disposal and what better way than manufacturing a quirk that could alter other quirks? The opportunity to make this into a reality was granted at All For One's initial 'defeat' which happens years earlier, he takes more time to recover and All Might is more cautious using his quirk for the first couple of years before using it like he did in cannon.

After the fight when they first assumed All For One was dead, they had collected blood and tissue from the scene of the fight. Then they experimented with it and as luck would have it, a woman with the perfect complementary quirk came into their employment. Amrita Devi, her quirk allowing her to alter small portions of another person's DNA like hair or eye colour.

After 8 failures, they finally manufactured a girl with the perfect quirk that they named Upgrade. Neha Devi Quirk- Upgrade- she can take up to 3 quirks at a time and alter (add to it, bind them, take away from) them slightly each time she takes them before returning the updated quirk to the user. It started with only being able to take one quirk at a time for a limited amount of time but grew more powerful with more use.

They used this on all of their 'trainees', updating their quirks to make them perfect for hero work, and any other... roles that needed filling.

The most successful results were from two other girls who they had started the 'updates' with within months of their quirk manifestation.

The first was Eva whose original quirk only allowed her to shift into a dragon with resistance to fire. Now she's able to actually breathe fire and manipulate it to a certain extent as well as shift specific parts of her body at a time, fly (wings) and regenerate (like how certain types of lizard can regrow tails but dialed up to eleven). She came into the commissions care while they were visiting orphanages for new trainees. Her parents had died in a villain attack weeks prior.

And then there was Izzy who was sold to the commission because her parents were scared of her and her quirk. Her quirk was originally a minor mind control but she had a natural fox mutation from her dad. Unlike her dad though, she was more driven by animal instincts. Her quirk was renamed kitsune when one of the 'upgrades' caused her to grow another tail that boosted her power. She has the basic powers of a Kitsune that get more powerful the more tails she grows.

So Neha was forced to overuse her quirk over and over again while Izzy and Eva were brought up as child soldiers.

If you haven't guessed yet, Hawks had his quirk 'upgraded' and renamed phoenix to make it seem more powerful. They still kept his hero name as Hawks for images sake since he had already debuted and caught a lot of attention.

So, the three girls ended up running away together, practically branding themselves as villains and traitors in the process. This is when they decide to completely overhaul the system, mainly with Izzy wanting to be the new president of the commission to change it completely as well as eventually the hero system itself. Unfortunately, because of their status as 'villains' they can't do this the normal way. Izzy then came up with the idea that the three lean into the villain label before turning everything on its head.

They start off as minor vigilantes and use this to keep an eye out for big players, like the rumours of the underground bogeyman and how the Yakuza is trying to create quirk destroying weapons. Then, after 2 years, they initiate their plans.

Eva is the first to go undercover working for the Yakuza. She starts off as a simple henchman before working her way up to being Eri's partial guard. Due to her past -having her quirk experimented on and the whole child soldier thing- plus her dragon hoarding tendencies, she becomes attached to Eri. The dragon guarding the princess.

Neha is the next to go undercover (as Noah) as the entrance exams for UA start. She's there for information on the hero side of things due to the hero school's strong connections with the hero commission, UA (mainly Chris) being one of their allies.

Then finally, Izzy goes undercover with the LOV when AFO starts getting more active with the plan to get rid of their main threat, and hopefully stealing his quirk for Neha to bind with so she can actually use the quirks she stores.

With their biggest threats out of the way, they start their plan for conquering the commission. But well, things don't always work out that easy, especially with the doctor and the meta liberation army on the loose as well as the commission doing whatever they can to keep their secrets secret... and then there's the fact that they've got to do all of this with a six year old Neha forged an identity for.

Oh, and to add even more drama, Alejandro's parents work for the commission and José (who is one of the big three at UA) had his quirk upgraded when he was younger as a favour to their father. Not that Alejandro about knows any of this of course. Boy is he in for one hell of a wild ride....

I'm so sure this is (a lot of) someone's kink, and I'm dying to know what it's tagged on AO3 because I'm writing it and I would also like to read more of it:

Femslash where the fems who are slashing are ostensibly straight.

Like "Girls Gone Wild" implies to me that they're 19-year-olds on spring break, and tagging "I Kissed A Girl (And I Liked It) by Katy Perry is the plot" seems both overwrought and likely to get left unfiltered in the Katy Perry fandom.

Something about the dissonance between a character having wild lesbian sex while also repeatedly affirming her own heterosexuality and grasping with both hands the social power it gives her is just *fascinating* to me and I want to read five million of it lmao.

(Relatedly, I also love the dynamic of older woman/younger woman "teaching how to please one's husband," and I'm not really sure how to find more of that one either beyond MIL/DIL ships, which tragically don't get tagged "Mother-in-Law/Daughter-in-Law" in the freeforms for me to find fandom-blind.)

“President Trump’s move to deploy California’s National Guard is an alarming abuse of power. Governors are the Commanders in Chief of their National Guard and the federal government activating them in their own borders without consulting or working with a state’s governor is ineffective and dangerous.

“Further, threatening to send the U.S. Marines into American neighborhoods undermines the mission of our service members, erodes public trust, and shows the Trump administration does not trust local law enforcement.

“It’s important we respect the executive authority of our country’s governors to manage their National Guards — and we stand with Governor Newsom who has made it clear that violence is unacceptable and that local authorities should be able to do their jobs without the chaos of this federal interference and intimidation.”

Katie Britt, the junior Republican senator from Alabama, delivered the GOP’s rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s address on Thursday. Her impassioned, breathless speech — delivered at times in an ASMR-esque whisper from what appeared to be her kitchen — ended up feeling more like a rejected audition tape for a supporting role on “Grey’s Anatomy” than the hard-hitting political sparring favored by Biden’s Republican critics.

Into the late hours of the night, Rolling Stone was inundated, sometimes completely unprompted, with messages from longtime GOP operatives, right-leaning pollsters, conservative Capitol Hill staff, MAGA lawyers, and even some senior members of Trump’s own 2024 campaign absolutely torching Britt’s absurdly over-dramatic rebuttal.

“What the hell am I watching right now?” a Trump adviser asked, mid-Britt remarks.

“Creepy,” one of the Republican pollsters noted.

A lawyer working in the Trump orbit says the performance reminded them of public-access television, and a senior House congressional aide remarks that it was “cringe”-inducing to watch and likely destined to be turned into a “lame [Saturday Night Live] skit” this weekend.

“I’ll give Biden this — he at least gave a better speech than Katie Britt,” one national Republican consultant said bluntly.

Thinking about the restaurant kids right now.

Alexia obviously owns the restaurant so her kids are constantly hanging around the back room. Alessia waitresses there so Tesoro has a little table at the back to do her homework. Aitana's just come back to work after the untimely death of her friends so Estrella is going to grow up in that restaurant as well.

Also thinking about who knows each other (outside of relationships) and why.

Obviously the restaurant squad know each other because they work together

Ingrid, Caro, Frido and Magda all went to university together but Magda only really knew Frido and decided to stay at the university in Denmark where she met Pernille for the remainder of her degree.

Lucy met Ona after Ona was introduced as the new police recruit while Laura joined the school Keira works at. They've yet to tell Peanut and Bear they're breaking up but Pup found out by accident.

Alessia knows Mary and Jessie in passing because they all go to the same university that Magda and Pernille lecture at.

Ingrid runs her fashion empire with Frido as her cfo and Caro as her IT head while Mapi is Jenni's tattoo artist and is besties with Alexia (she gets to eat free at the restaurant which is very helpful with her five kids + Nena).

The firefighters include Leah, Katie and Caitlin with Lia as their mildly exasperated admin person who can't believe the fire station is still running. Jordan used to work at the firestation but decided it was probably a bit too dangerous for her when she had a near death scare and decided that she wanted to remain around for Bug.

Viv and Steph working for the same newspaper and eat lunch together while Viv complains about how Beth and Daan keep pretending to not be friends even though they're constantly dumping kids on each other while Ellie is being beaten up by their kids.

Mini and Clara being brought into the fold by Steph and are the two people in town that people go to when they've got problems.

Kristie and Sam being the couple that somehow just knows everyone and is always in on the gossip despite nobody remembering telling them anything. Rue is actually the one that keeps feeding them information but will deny it if anyone asks.

Marta being an old friend of Alexia's who probably does freelance consulting and when Mapi finds out that she's making eyes at Caro, she tries to meddle not knowing that Caro's already in deep for Marta.

Frida and Emma being the ones that most recently moved to town before Pernille and Princesse. Frida is a very old friend of Ingrid's who went to the same school as her but briefly lost contact when they went their separate ways for university. Emma obviously knows Alexia because she's the one that supplies all the bread and cakes for the restaurant and Squish comes along to drop everything off sometimes so she's kind of one of the restaurant kids as well.

I walked into a routine meeting today with a third party vendor we heavily use the system for to be BLINDSIDED by a second level of middle management created solely to make more red tape GOING BEHIND OUR BACK and announcing to us ON THE VENDOR MEETING with THREE OTHER PEOPLE the new things we were "required" to do as stipulated in a CONTRACT we were NOT CONSULTED ON and I COULD NOT CONTROL LOSING MY SHIT ON THIS TEAMS MEETING FAM and my assistant director was furtively texting my director apparently like I NEED YOU TO GET IN HERE KATY IS GOING TO KILL THIS MAN so he comes in and as soon as he hears what is going on HIS FACE LOOKS JUST LIKE MINE and afterwards I was like fuck I probably almost got myself fired so I go in and am like hey I'm sorry that was unprofessional and my director just looks at me and says I AM GOING TO LIGHT THIS MOTHERFUCKER UP so apparently my job is fine but my blood pressure is through the roof lmao FUCK OFF
