“oh here’s another one I read about yesterday!” you say excitedly as rafe squeezes your intertwined hands, smiling at you.

“mhm go on,” he smiles as you both continue to walk on the sidewalk, the full moon shining bright down at the two of you.

“this one is about the red thread of fate, this thread connects two soulmates,” you smile at him. he looks at you with his eyebrows slightly raised.

“connects two soulmates?” he echoes, and you nod.

“yeah,” you say. “it’s said there is a man who lives on the moon who comes to earth to show people their futures and who they’ll end up with. he does that with the help of the red thread of fate. he ties this invisible red thread between the two people who are meant to be together. this thread can tangle over the huge distance between the two people, it can stretch, but it will never ever break, and it will always tighten to bring those two people together.

“it also talks about the existence of a red pencil which can trace this invisible red thread, and this pencil gets shorter with its usage.

“oh and, this thread is always tied between the pinkies of the two people. that is because it was discovered a long time ago that our heart is connected to our pinky finger by an artery, which is now called the ‘ulnar artery’. this artery carries oxygenated blood from our heart to our pinky. so, in a way, our heart is directly linked to our pinkies via this artery, so when we make a pinky promise, we are basically connecting our hearts while making the promise. and that is why the invisible red thread of fate is also connecting our pinkies, because it is basically connecting the hearts of the soulmates, and–”

you take a look to your left at rafe, who’s looking down at the sidewalk as you both walk. you got so absorbed in talking you don’t even know if he is still listening or if he has tuned you out. honestly, who can blame him? since you keep on talking too much, anyone would quickly tune you out.

“oh god i’m doing it again aren’t i?” you say nervously as you stop in your tracks on the sidewalk, causing rafe to stop too. he eyes you with furrowed brows and creases on his forehead.

the actual truth is, rafe was thinking about tying a red thread to your pinkies when you both get home, his mind racing on where he can actually find some red thread in his house.

“doing what?” rafe asks softly.

“the, the ramble thing, where i just talk and talk till my mouth falls off,” you sigh, looking down. “I do that way too much, i don’t even know if you want to hear it or not but I just start speaking with no seeming end to my talk whatsoever, and you have to force yourself to listen to it because you got stuck being my boyfriend. and then i just keep on talking without thinking, it’s like my mouth has a mind of its own, I really should start to think–”

you are immediately cut off with rafe’s lips on yours, your eyes widening as you try to adjust to what is happening. rafe’s free hand comes to rest on your cheek to pull you even closer into the kiss, and your eyes flutter shut, letting you get lost in the feeling of him.

rafe gently pulls apart from the kiss, his eyes barely open as he gazes down at you.

“listen to me…” he says softly. “you don’t talk too much. I love hearing you talk. I love the cute expressions you make when you talk about things you are passionate about. I love how much knowledge you have about them and how you want to share it with me. I love the shine in your eyes when you start to talk, and the shine is even brighter under the moonlight. never ever apologize for talking too much because I won’t hear it, and you’ll only end up getting kissed by me each time. you get it?”

you look up in rafe’s eyes with a stunned expression. for the first ever time, you are at a loss of words, and all you can do is nod.

he smiles softly at you, as his thumb caresses your cheek. “words, baby, you hear me?” he says softly.

“yeah…” you let out. “I hear you,”

“good,” he mumbles. “never apologize again, okay?”

“okay,” you whisper.

he presses a soft kiss to your forehead and tugs on your hand gently, both of you now walking again. “come on, continue what you were saying,” he says, urging you to continue about the legend you were talking about.

you nod as you clear your throat before resuming to tell him more, this time not allowing even a single thought to let you stop as the stream of words spills from your lips, and rafe only listens in awe, loving hearing what it is you have to tell him.

I haven't worked on A Toast to the Pigs very much.

There's a couple of reasons for that: Writers' block from not knowing how to proceed; the exhaustion and burnout of keeping up with the weekly updates; impostor's syndrome for how I write Kim's perspective; the fact that I haven't really read through what I've published of Toast for a good, long while; the hyperfixation I've had for Disco Elysium kind of fading to a certain extent; the prevalent issues that I've noticed in my writing style that I really, really want to work on improving. And don't even try to tell me that there aren't any. I know there are some rather egregious issues.

All of those combined makes it difficult to make me want to touch Toast in the first place, and there's a certain degree of shame that comes with that knowledge. And when I do want to work on Toast, I have such a hard time getting into the mindset of when I worked on it to such an extreme that it practically monopolized my time, just because it's been so long since I last touched it.

I recently tried re-reading it and I couldn't help how, despite how proud I was, something in my chest just kept periodically cringing, and I do know why: It could have been so much shorter. So much briefer. It's no wonder that it monopolized so much of my time in the weeks and months that I'd been publishing it; it's no wonder that I got so burnt out from it. 144,000 words over 15 chapters is not a normal, sustainable pace to keep, and there's so much excess fat and prose that could've been cut down to trim it up and make it neater. Not to say that I'm going to go back and cut down the already-published chapters, but currently, that's the big issue that I see with my writing: I need to learn to keep it brief, and I need to learn to identify what parts of the story would benefit from extrapolation and which parts won't.

I do want to finish Toast--very, very badly. I want to have a finished multi-chapter fic under my belt for once instead of leaving it not even half-finished. I'm just having such a difficult time nudging my brain in the direction to actually work on newer chapters. I've lost a lot of threads that I need to pick up and untangle, especially if I want to come out of it with something that's consistent and good. I know it's fanfiction--we do this for fun, we're all having fun here--but I want it to be good and cohesive, because that's just what I enjoy.

I love that people are still able to read it and love it even if they don't think that it'll ever be updated again. I love the comments that I've gotten so far and I love all of the fanart that I've gotten, too. I don't like this shame of leaving things abandoned, even if I can still appreciate the joy that old fandoms gave me for the time that I participated in them. I appreciate the story, I appreciate the fandom, and I appreciate you. I really want Toast to be a story that we can all be proud of.

So I'll keep working on Toast. I have Chapter 16 finished--more or less, in my old writing style, and I'm undecided if there are a couple of characterization changes that I want to make with it. So far, it's the only one that's 'done'. I'm undecided if I should keep it unpublished until I finish Day 2--as I said I wouldn't start updating until Day 2 was completely finished--or if I should dedicate my time to finishing the rest of Day 2 first. I'll probably drop a poll in a few days, see what y'all's opinion of the matter is.

Despite how exhausting it was to keep up with, having a schedule really did help me focus and push me to put my best foot forward to keep up with updates. Whenever I do start updating Toast again, I'll probably extend those deadlines to once every fortnight (every other week). I can't guarantee that regular updates will be anytime soon, but, well. It is what it is.

In the meantime, I'll be working on a Wattpad cover to crosspost A Toast to the Pigs, because that's something I've really been wanting to do for the past couple of months for some reason. I'll see you then.

I am also going to be selective on who I RP with at times so this blog is semi-selective, but if I am following you I am interested in writing with you!

3.) I am good with a mix of jumping into things without a plot; such as memes, open starters, random things are good. But sometimes I prefer plotting, even if only a little bit, especially when it comes to a pre-established relationship that isn’t the canon between two characters; this includes children of muses. I am okay with writing with said muses but I would like to have a bit of plotting to this as my version of the muse or muses as parents in question is not the one canon to yours as such, I need to make sure I know whats going on or all your gonna get from my muse is either ’ I have no kids ’ or i dont believe you, so i tend to avoid that if no prior communication has happened before hand! I do also like screaming about plots that both parties might want to do and discuss between us to work out a possible thread idea?

4.) This blog is multi-fandom, verse and ship. Meaning all threads even if tagged as in the same verse for a muse are their own story and thread between our muses, this includes for relationships, unless its a story that has been discussed and plotted between all involved. We are also Crossover-friendly here! I love mashing up fandoms and seeing what happens!

5.) As stated in my first ruling, NSFW themes and topics may be present, if I feel that the topic, even if it’s gore and not sexual nsfw, is too heavy or unsafe to just have out on display I will always put it under a read more and tagged the triggers like; tw;______

6.) Continuing with the point above, I will not tolerate certain things like underage sexual content or abuse or any nsfw content with minors - this goes for muns & muses and hanging, if you are ever unsure of anything please ask me. This is also a if I ever forget or don’t tag something that is a trigger for you please just message me and I will tag them accordingly.

7.) Unless your muse has some supernatural abilities or in my muse’s canon knows things about them, please don’t use information that is like their weaknesses and things like that in our threads until my muse reveals them or it is revealed in a thread, I class this as meta rping/writing/gaming?? and it’s no fun???

1. long threads

Ooh long threads, my beloved. It’s inevitable with me, and I tend to gravitate towards those naturally (i find myself longing for shorter threads sometimes, mostly because of my energy level on lower days, but then i go ahead and write too much anyway!!!)

I do go with the flow however when it comes to how long or short a thread is; in fear of sounding cliche, the quality matters more than the quantity— and sometimes less is more, but sometimes more is needed.

There’s no real need to pad out a reply because it’s too short or trim it up cause it’s too long. I can genuinely tell when there was thought and care put into the writing and that’s what matters. <- biggest thing i ask myself when writing is typically 'how would i feel if i received the response i'm writing?' something something treat others how you want to be treated blah blah

20. violent threads

VIOLENCE GO BRRRRR. Big fan, from cartoon slapstick violence to blood-curdling gore (in the context of writing+reading. I can get squirrely in regard to realistic visuals without warning). 

I do share a sort of “rule” for lack of better terms in regards to violent threads that's hilariously similar to how I handle romance. I won’t jump into violent/fight threads right off the bat as the first thing we ever write together. Too many possibilities for things to go haywire and I prefer that initial vibe check first. we just met and you want to write our characters strangling each other? what are we.................

Ahh, thank you so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! The Threads That Bind is the first longer fic that I wrote. Most of my stuff is short because I'm used to writing really long stories and I wanted to practice writing shorter things. But the Barbatos brain rot was too much, so Threads came into existence. It's only 21k, which is not actually very long at all, but it's longer than the fics I usually write.

If I'm honest, I feel like Threads was kinda my trial run for Unchained. I put Arsenios in Threads because I was too shy to write him his own story. But then after I was done posting Threads, I was like... this guy has infected my brain and if I don't write this story I will lose my mind. It isn't a sequel, though, and I did want to write a story about Barbatos specifically. In fact, I rewrote chunks of Threads just so I could put Arrie in it lol!

I guess I just assumed that the people who follow me here do so because of the fics I've written! It had never once occurred to me that someone might have read my stuff on ao3 and then been unaware that it was me, I honestly find that very funny and cute!

Though now I'm thinking about a Threads sequel which is not something I had ever considered until just now...

ooh i would say if we’re getting technical about it i conceptualize my gender/s as flux (in the shorter term), so the gender/s that are there stay the same but their intensities redistribute. i’m picturing one of those games with the bottles with layers of different color liquid & you pour the various liquids from one bottle to another.

in the like ‘across the past decade’ scale i would definitely say my gender/s have changed as i’ve cultivated them but there are often common threads of desires & ways of being that i can trace across time.

a lot of them are spatial which doesn’t translate well from incomprehensible gesturing into text lol but i like to say “me saying i’m a man gives you as much information as saying that’s a fish” because of how different fishes can be more different from each other than from, like, a bear or whatever

in a world where it was more possible to find clothes & accessories i can wear i would love to wear long wigs again, lots of jewelry, colorful dresses… ms. frizzle is my hero. but tbh very rarely will i reblog something i wouldn’t wear❣️

oh absolutely❣️ truly i would say my gender is high femme far more often were it not for the fact that people would assume that means something very different than i do (discussed more below lol)

hmm not directly as such, but every time a femme post of mine gets any activity people are in my notes assuming i am a woman / am a lesbian / am not a man / whatever else would make it comprehensible to them that i could possibly write something they could relate to. which i get frustrated about every so often lol

19) when in a situation forcing you into one gender, what do you do?

depends on the situation (as i’m sure it does for most people) but i tend to go with man, for different reasons depending on the circumstances. with doctors i present myself as a straight trans man because i’m openly on T & that’s the easiest way for them to understand that. when i go to somebody’s blog & it’s like “this is a space for wlw & nblw 💖 men dni 💖” i decide man weighs more in me than nblw out of, depending on my mood, ‘better safe than sorry’ or wanting to respect that they don’t want me there or not wanting to be somewhere that doesn’t want me anyway.

There's also the Free fandom which I'm sad is not as active as it used to be but I've had plenty of fun and good experiences there too. Started writing this as a bsky thread, decided not to hijack the original post for it, decided it was better as a blog post.

I haven't emotionally recovered from some fics that haven't been updated in literal years, and by all accounts seem to be abandoned. I'm too autistic to not want closure.

I don't read a lot of WIPs. I stopped a long time ago. I will, however, check to see how regularly something is updated, and whether or not chapters are listed as "X/10" or "X/??"

I'm gonna say something controversial about WIPs.

I never, ever click on X/?? fics, because I've been burned not on the "oh no this was abandoned" but on the "oh no this has no plot" one too many times. The longer something is, the more I care about narrative structure. Anything over 20k needs a narrative structure, sorry not sorry. And I know how hard that is, and that's why I still I haven't finished a novel.

But actually having a plot and a narrative structure, character arcs, etc, have kept me reading fics that I desperately longed to give a line edit to for SPAG.

I can tell by how popular some super-long "??" fics are that loads of fanfic readers (and writers!) disagree with me, and that's fine.

One of the reasons I read shorter stories, and don't click on "??" is because I also read books and shorter stories that don't have a narrative arc/structure are much easier to cope with than long ones that don't.

There is value in having a plot outline, in knowing where you're going, in knowing how you want to end. It makes for better stories. And I know this, because I have struggled so much to have more than a broad outline for my stories, rather than knowing what's going to happen scene-by-scene. I am not someone who is capable of doing the whole "sit down and write the whole thing on cue cards before doing the actual writing" thing. That's why I haven't finished a novel (and why my novel-length fanfic is all co-written).

So while I struggle with that, I also know enough to recognise "this doesn't have a plot. where is this going. what are we doing. this wasn't planned out." That makes for poor novels, and it makes for poor novel-length fanfiction.

I disagree with the people who don't see value in fanfiction, who think it's all bad. I mean, obviously, I wouldn't have been doing this for so long--y'know, 25 years. I reject the entire premise.

However.

There is always nuance, and that nuance is this: the better a piece of fanfic is, the more likely it is that the writer not only has a decent grasp of SPAG, but also of craft as a whole. Character arcs, character motivations, narrative arcs, plots and subplots, pacing, etc.

While I struggle with planning long-form fiction, I have spent a LOT of time reading books on the craft. I've also been writing stories for 37 or 38 years (I remember my first story; I can't remember if I was 5 or 6), and reading for 39.

I have good reason not to trust the old "??". I have good reason not to trust multi-chapter WIPs that don't say they're complete or basically complete and have a regular posting schedule.

I know, I know, I'm being controversial, and being mean. Lots of people disagree with me on this; something like "Master of the Universe" wouldn't have been as popular as it was if people didn't agree with me--many of its meandering plot problems are still there in its final form.

There is a book reviewer I really like who complains about published for-profit novels not having plot and I see her get pushback that, apparently, not everything needs plot, and I can't help but assume those people are people who prefer or primarily read fanfiction.

It is okay to do that.

But as someone who reads both books and fanfic and will still fight and die on the hill that fanfiction is good, actually, the craft and mechanics of writing matter, and they matter more the longer the piece of (fan)fiction is. Pretty prose isn't enough.

Slice of life threads are great, too, and I always love a thread that's got a good deal of development between characters! And sometimes off the wall crack threads that just kind of happen. But also a lot of the time I'm not super plan oriented unless I or the other mun approach the other and are like 'Hey I have this idea, want to expand on it?' Trying to force a ship is a big one. Not on this blog, but on a past blog I've experienced this and it just. Is not fun. No thank you. If I don't want to ship a thing, and I tell you that I don't to, then that should be the end of that. Same for if you don't want to a ship a thing. If that happens, please just say okay and let that be that. Don't try to convince me to play out a ship that I don't want to, and of course I won't do that to anyone either.

Honestly that's the only one? I feel like I'm pretty chill for the most part. Just follow basic roleplay etiquette and we should be fine.

PLOTS OR MEMES: Both! I usually treat memes as starter potential, but they don't have to turn into anything. I'm always open to plotting, too!

LONG REPLIES OR SHORT REPLIES: I tend to stick to longer replies, but I can do shorter replies too. I just tend to ramble when I write. You are not obligated to match my length, but if you prefer I try to match yours then I will try my best to do so! It just depends on what my partners want. I don't ever expect anyone to match me. Just as long as you give me something to work with.

best experience : When I wrote as Hestia (Greek goddess of the Hearth) and the first time I had Ishtar (Mesopotamian goddess of Love & War) a few years ago cause let me tell you, the mythology community was poppin. Everyone was so open and it was beyond fun to explore all these kinds of relationships, especially the familial bonds within a pantheon.

rp pet peeves : Hands down godmodding. Most of my muses I've had for years and have poured an insane amount of love into them and for someone else to control them??? Especially my ocs? Hardblocked on sight. Minor godmodding is chill, like if you're muse hands mine something and its assumed that they take it or if your muse wants mine to follow yours because that moves the thread along. But to essentially write my muse for me and change core things about them or what their realistic reactions are is an absolute no go. I recently had something like this happen to Dama where the other mun turned her into this sniveling little girl to make their muse look better and it was so fucking gross. If you want something specific to happen I'd prefer we talk about it.

fluff, angst, or smut : I love me some good fucking fluff, and if we have a fun/close dynamic going on I'll absolutely eat angst up. As for smut, I used to write it a lot a few years ago but it's not something that interests me now.

plots or memes : Both! I like plotting around memes with new partners and I think it's the easiest way to get things going.

long or short replies : I prefer shorter replies, like 1-2 paragraphs, for the most part. Anything longer I need a plot to follow and they tend to take longer for me to put out. I have to literally be in love with you to have muse for a novella thread though.

time to write : When I can't lol Like when I'm at work or its really late and I have to go to sleep soon-- or even like rn. I have a lot a muse but I have to leave in a few minutes to hang out with my family.

"I don't want to ruin that nice suit of yours Viktor, but- fuck." Jayce hissed, feeling the shorter man's ass press against his crotch. His grip on his hips tightened as he fidgeted with his partner's shirt.

"Have you learned nothing, jayce? If you want something, don't ask for permission."

Viktor turned, stabilising himself on the wall Infront of him. His cane clutched tight in his hand with white knuckles. They paused; staring into each other's eyes. Jayces expression was pleading. His eyes wide and a small pout on his lips. The brunette could feel his heart race; the desire to watch his partner's face fill with pleasure rising. To watch those big doe eyes look up at him earnestly, desperate to please him.

That was all he needed to hear. Spinning the other man around, ripping his shirt open with one easy pull. The buttons clattered to the floor as Viktor gasped. The cold air immediately hit his skin.

When his teeth grazed it, Viktors back arched further. His shoulder blades are the only thing keeping him to the wall. Eyes rolling back as he clutched onto the bigger man. He wanted to scold himself; was he really this sensitive? Or was it the fact it was him doing this?

He didn't have time to answer his own racing questions as his trousers loosened around his hips. Jayces thick fingers rubbing him through his briefs. Viktor let out a curt moan.
