Can I pick your brain for a moment? How did you bring up not working anymore with Jack? I'm in a bit of a differe t situation than you, i don't have physical health issues, only mental, and I'm not married or even moved in with my boyfriend. But working is so draining to me, it always has been and I can't even work full time. I'm just going through a rough patch right now and I can't stop dreaming of a future where I can just be a home maker, but im worried if I ever bring it up to my boyfriend he wouldn't approve or understand.
Even now working part time, I feel like a drain on my mother, and i know i get judged for not working full time and living with her as someone in my mid 20s. Have you ever dealt with those feelings?
Thanks in advance if you choose to respond. Im a long time follower and reading your life experiences has made me feel less alone in my own experiences
Sorry it took so long to reply, in my situation this was actually a goal that Jack had from the start. She wanted to be the one working and earning enough that I wouldn’t have to.
When it came to actually making that change it was a combination of my physical and mental health collapsing. After thinking about it for a while I considered trying other jobs, part time, or finding at home things I could do since the idea of being fully dependent on someone else was really uncomfortable for me at the time. I ended up sitting down with Jack, explained how I was feeling, my concerns, and we sat down at the computer to go over the budget together and see what would be feasible for us. Turns out she was making enough on her own to cover all our expenses so we went forwards with me converting to not working anymore.
Depending on your situation and the people around you it may be best to share your feelings with them. Explaining to Jack directly that I didn’t want to be burden or make our lives harder allowed me to see that she didn’t feel that way at all, her priority is my happiness, she made sure I knew that. Having that open conversation made it a lot easier to feel comfortable and safe making that change, as well as acknowledging whether or not it was an option for us
(And they’re not “only” mental health issues, they’re just as valid please don’t feel the need to downplay them)
Depending on you and your capacity you might also explore other strategies to earn income if that’s something you still need to happen (selling your own creations, content creation, there’s some apps that pay you for surveys, I do one that pays you for reaching milestones in mobile games for some spending money and there’s audio transcription that pays you from home) there might be things you feel more capable of handling if you aren’t financially able to quit altogether.
Ultimately I find it comes down to being open with people you trust, explaining your struggles, goals, and compromises while being understanding of both sides
#I now also do things that save us money like making bread and meals from scratch#so in my brain I feel like I’m contributing financially even if I’m not#like oh I saved us 20$ in bread this week#because I made several batches with $2 of ingredients instead

People who post "healthy" recipes online that require a cup of almond butter and half a cup of organic maple syrup or some shit should go straight to jail
#like??? are you for real#in what world do people routinely spend upwards of 20 euro for a batch of homemade brownies#because that's how much it'd cost you here just for the almond butter and maple syrup lmao let alone the rest of those ingredients#no shade to anyone who's comfortable spending that. but man i just wanna make some brownies#and i'm tired of all those “healthy or “paleo” recipes showing up first 🤢

#my partner and i were trying to recreate our favorite from a restaurant several cities away#we can’t get it often so it’s like… how can we make a similar one at home? mm mmm mmmmmmm#the only x factor is the consistency. the first batch was perfect but the second was a little too liquidy so i’m hoping this third one is 👍#i mixed the ingredients in the ninja last time and i think that may have been why. i did the same today but added more chia seeds#to compensate#— idle chatter#cw food

I'm glad I know how to bake sweets.
It lets me give people comforting cookies when they're going through it.
#I won't go into too many details for their sake but they needed some kind of distraction this evening#so we made a big snack assortment and watched a comfort movie#I'm counting it as a blessing that I had the time and resources to learn this skill#and you know what! I had the exact right amount of brown sugar and butter and vanilla. it used up every last drop of those ingredients#Thank you Lord for the ingredients and the weird inclination to slowly plan a cookie batch when I didn't yet know the recipient#alsike rambles#blessings in the mundane

One of the fun things about becoming an adult is that there is now an additional factor limiting my food availability: cost.
Now I can’t just try new foods and see if I like eating them and give myself options. Trying new foods costs money I don’t have. Money that could be going toward reliable safe foods.
But if I eat the same safe foods too much without variety then eventually (months/years eventually) I start being unable to eat them anymore.
So I need to find enough foods that I can cycle through, which I can consistently prepare for myself even on low spoons, which don’t set off any of my sensory issues, are filling enough to last me for a few hours, and don’t cost too much money.
I feel like I enjoy food a lot less than I used to. Eating feels like a chore I have to do, not something enjoyable for its own sake. When I love a food’s flavor and texture, I eat it so much that it becomes just tolerable. And then I need to hurry and switch it out for a new food before I can’t eat it anymore.
I know I’m lucky to be able to afford the foods I can eat, and that I have the option to pick and choose. I just wish I could eat more.
#blue chatter#actually autistic#it’s gotten to the point where I’ll eat like 5 meals consistently#I’m becoming bored of all of them but half the time when I try to buy smth else I end up not being able to eat it#and not for lack of trying#I did find popcorn chicken that I like so that’s good#that’ll help me#but I don’t know how I’m gonna spin all these plates forever#*melts into a puddle*#this post brought on by the fact that I tried making that one grilled cheese recipe going around on tumblr#which I had made before and loved#and had to throw it out halfway through because the texture was all wrong and I couldn’t make myself eat it anyway#if I had infinite money I’d buy more foods I know I like lots#like steak and chipotle burritos and ingredients for focaccia and onion straws#ooh actually.#I might be able to do a half batch of the focaccia#lemme try that#that’ll help

made beanut butter cookie dough. hell yeah
#byrd chirps#we have a friend over at our place rn and they helped me shape the first batch into balls to bake#but then you're supposed to flatten them and they uh. crumbled to bits when i did that#i think the resippy was murican and the beanut butter is of course bri'ish#and for some reason bri'ish beanut butter is extremely dry and dummy thicc#that combined with the recipe calling for 2 large eggs when we only had medium ones probably was the culprit#so today i added another eggie#idk if it still needs another one but i think they're... acceptable. at this point.#I'd like to try another double batch with four medium eggs instead of three and see how that affects it#but first we need to see how these turn out#I'm not yet up for baking them#but i am so so happy to be baking again#now i just need to find some glooten free red velvet cake mix#or a resippy and ingredience for glooten free red velvet cookies#and i can get to baking my fave type of cookie#or i could find a glooten free yellow cake mix (which is probably more readily available) and make snickerdoodles!#anyways I'll try to post an update when they're done

i think that as long as u have like premade rice, ready to go, ricebowls are such easy easy meals. like the grain based equivalent of stew/soups. the most difficult part about it is needing to have rice, and as someone who never remembers to like meal prep or anything waiting for it to cook is sooooo hard 😭
#but i made a big batch today so i should be good for a few days for quick easy meals...#todays was leftover roast chicken. eggs. marinated smashed cucumber salad. avocado. grated ginger 👍#i rlly need more ingredients tho like i wish i had cabbage or bok choy or some kind of leafy green..... </3
