You think you're an introvert because you like being alone, but maybe it's not about solitude. Maybe it's about peace. Maybe it's the quiet you've fought so hard to protect. Maybe it's the safety of your own company, after being around too many people who made you feel like too much or not enough. You smile differently around people who bring you calm. You speak more. You laugh louder. You come alive in rooms where your soul doesn't shrink. You're not afraid of connection. You're just tired of surviving it. So don't confuse your boundaries with isolation. Don't confuse your quiet with disinterest. You're not closed off. You're just waiting for someone who feels like home, not a battlefield.

The social media glamorization of loneliness is one of the most dystopian and bizarre trends I've seen in a while.
What people fail to realize is that this current Western way of living alone is not normal. Our species did not evolve to live in isolation. We are tribal by nature, meant to belong to and thrive within a community. The West is one of the few outlier societies where this isolation is not only expected but also normalized.
Many people have decided that instead of working toward building communities to address loneliness, they would rather romanticize their solitude. It's a coping mechanism, and a very sad one at that. This seems to be especially prevalent among young women.
Yes, it is important to be comfortable in your own skin and capable of standing on your own when your environment doesn't align with you. Yes, it's important to have a sense of agency and enjoy your own company without feeling dependent on others. However, what's not healthy is to succumb to isolation and stop trying to build strong bonds with people because you've become too comfortable being by yourself.
Many have confused introversion with anti-social behavior. If you continue down this path, you will have nobody else to blame when your life is devoid of love and companionship in the long run.

Hatred, I learned quickly, was the antidote to sadness. It was the only safe feeling. Hatred does not make you cry at school. It isn’t vulnerable. Hatred is efficient. It does not grovel. It is pure power. [...] Soon, my father and I found ourselves alone in this world, and our simmering hatred had nowhere to go but toward each other.
