Tunic
Rating: 5/5. Mostly due to the constant revelations, mysteries to explore, and satisfying secrets, but I also loved the charming retro aesthetic and the adorable art style.

I don't really know how to sum up this game in words, I loved it so much! It feels like trying to summarize BG3 or IOI (both games I wrote really short posts about lol).

Basically, this game is an isometric action adventure, which isn't usually my style. I put it on easy and either had my better-at-games partner fight the bosses, or just cheesed through boss fights in invincible mode. But it doesn't matter because fighting is not really the point of the game.

The real point of this game is discovering secrets, which is like candy to me. I love a good mystery, and this game is full of them. On the surface, you start with a game manual that's missing most of its pages (oh, and it's in another language). Throughout the game you find more pages which slowly teach you more and more things - which is why this game gives such Outer Wilds vibes, and I've seen people call it a metroidbrainia.

Beyond the manual though, this game has levels and levels of secrets, and we spent about 20 hours solving basically all of them (with some very light googling to assist). I loved it, and now I'm sad I finished it.

Aside from the gameplay being delightful, the game itself is also gorgeous to look at. I love the bright and chunky art style. The controls are smooth, and the music is fun. It's just a wonderful world to lose yourself in, and I really can't recommend it enough!

VIFF 2024 Review: The Thinking Game
The Thinking Game is a documentary that makes understanding A.I. pioneer Demis Hassabis to be as much about trying to understand how A. I. came to be and how it evolved to what we have now. The topic of A.I. is something to provoke a lot of discussion. Some will regard it as a revolutionary breakthrough in technology. Others see it as a threat that devalues human abilities. The documentary The…

i took notes for the first time in a while :> this is for group theory.

#i was so confused what the difference between internal and external direct product#internal direct products are not equal to a direct product#but they are isomorphic to one#which is like.. why is that an important distinction to make?#guess i'll find out when i do the homework??#mathblr#gradblr#studyblr

Woot, I remapped the keys and it's a lot more intuitive now (at least for 19). Also actually stumbled into a synth patch that I don't hate

tardis/time lord symbiosis as a mathematical operation along the lines of a complex multidimensional trigonometric proof. transforming each side until they’re not only equivalent but actually identical. ?
#trig proof is the only way i can frame what i’m thinking of in terms of math i know lol#^barely passed grade 12 calculus and then promptly forgot it all#but do you see my vision#making them into mathematically the same entity#isomorphic controls work on similar principles i imagine#p#dw#time lords#tardises

your tattoo is really cool! What is homeomorphism, I looked it up but I’m not sure I understand really, your explanations of maths stuff are always very interesting
a homeomorphism is some sort of continuous deformation (basically squishing it around) that preserves topological properties!

a pretty popular example is a mug being homeomorphic to a donut, because you can squish one into the other without changing its characteristics
if you were to take this donut and squish it down so it’s a perfect sphere, that would not be a homeomorphism! because a sphere has certain properties that the donut doesn’t
one example of a property preserved under homeomorphism is compactness. a space being ‘compact’ is pretty much the same as saying it’s finite, and there’s not a way to magically squish something finite into something infinite
#the tattoo i got is also the symbol for an isomorphism#but the topology textbook im reading uses it for homeomorphism#to my understanding an isomorphism is similar but not topology-specific#it’s more generally the idea of preserving some sort of property

Surprising absolutely noone except undergraduate math students, it turns out math actually is only about numbers in the end!
#math#mathblr#mathematics#oh so you thought abstract algebra stopped being about numbers to get to more complex structures#and you thought fundamental logic is so abstract exactly because it is more general than just numbers#well guess what#gödel wants to have a word with you#my friend every statement that can possibly be made by humans ever can be made isomorphic to some structure of the natural numbers#even if that structure is a function space of the power set of the power set of the natural numbers#it is possible to write any finite set of axioms as an isomorphism to axioms about the natural numbers#however since the axiomatic definition of the naturals gives you some axioms already it is important to note that for some really fucked up#axiomatic systems you have to explicitly include axioms that prevent you from using thise axioms in sone ways#as in you can't use the set theorethic definition to choose elements of a set for example#you have to choose elements from a set with choice functions constructible from axioms provided#now for making set theory equivalent to the naturals the choice functions you can derive are equivalent to just choosing a natural#but it could be not the case

i think the coolest thing about being knowledgeable in something is that you get to have favourites (that other people may not understand). like how math people have their favourite theorems and geoguessr players have favourite poles. its like a secret exclusive group that most people just dont get to see

TIL
(or at least, had it confirmed) that "onesie" is USAmerican for "babygro" - that is to say, it refers to this garment:
..as well as this garment:
British English (or at least my idiolect) has borrowed the American "onesie" for the latter garment, but not the former.
Which, idk, it's interesting is all!
To check my working, here's the first page of Amazon.com searched for "onesie":
and here's the first page of Amazon.co.uk with the same prompt:
#somehow isomorphic to 'ABDL' being the universal English language acronym for that kink#when 'diaper' is not the English word for that object#no idea how adult kinksters refer to the item in practice amongst themselves#I think “babygro” is an ascended brand name like hoover

So paths between points induce isomorphisms between the fundamental groups based at those points, right. Does this isomorphism depend on the path, or does every path give the same isomorphism?
#math#there are certainly cases where paths with different homotopy types induce the same isomorphism#i.e. the circle#but maybe with nonabelian fundamental groups it's different?#maybe they give the same isomorphism up to conjugation
