Grand Prix season is nigh and I am most excited for the return of Yuma Kagiyama! If you didn't know about Yuma before the 2022 Olympics, yes, the skating skills have always been that gorgeous. Enjoy a little throwback Yuma at JGP Courcheval 2019.

JGP Bangkok: Japón se lleva el oro y Estados Unidos toma la delantera en danza sobre hielo

El Junior Grand Prix repartió sus primeras medallas de la temporada con la división femenina y los patinadores norteamericanos se imponen ante sus rivales en danza sobre hielo.

El segundo día del JGP comenzó con Estados Unidos enseñando su superioridad en danza. La dupla estadounidense, Leah Neset y Artem Markelov, finalizaron el rhythm dance en primer lugar y crearon una diferencia de 7 puntos con respecto a la pareja francesa ubicada en el segundo puesto. Mañana, Neset y Markelov desde su cómoda posición van en busca de su primera dorada del diclo 23/24

Por el lado de la división femenina se entregaron las primeras medallas de la competición. Ocurrieron tres hechos destacables durante el programa libre, el primero siendo Heesue Han de Corea que pasó de estar sexta a un tercer puesto, su rutina ejecutado a la perfección que le otorgó el bronce. 

Los otros dos hechos tuvieron similitud, pero con distinto resultado. Yuseong Kim tuvo un excelente debut en su primer JGP al aterrizar un triple axel, el salto más dificil para las mujeres, y como su compatriota se lleva otra medalla. Mientras que Ami Nakai, la líder después del programa corto, también tenía planeado un triple axel que terminó en una variación doble con mal aterrizaje.

A pesar de su error en su salto inicial, la japonesa realizó el resto de sus pases y giros con total calma, logrando un segundo puesto en el programa libre, pero medalla de oro debido a su puntaje combinado.

El primer evento de la serie Junior Grand Prix llegará a su final el día sábado con el free dance y el programa libre masculino. La siguiente parte de esta seguidilla de competiciones será en Austria el próximo 31 de agosto.

(starts at the C/B interview ⬆️) was in the car a lot since yesterday, listened to the JGP RD and FD but haven't watched a minute of it yet 😅 Mark talking dance was as good as a podcast - and i love that they brought in Madi and Evan for an interview about their experience in juniors and to have them commentate the last group with them - both were junior world champions with their previous partners. Evan mentions being at his first junior worlds in Ljubljana with VM, D/W and Anna and Luca. the chance for the young teams to have the current senior champions comment on and compliment their skates is meaningful - i wish they would bring in current or recent top skaters more often. also, they point out good stuff - i didn't know they changed this rule this season -

So how did you like the girls’ performances in Krasnoyarsk?

Frankly speaking, Sofia Akatieva’s Mulan always makes me cry. Actually I’d like to comment more on this program, so I’ll probably do that in a specially dedicated post bit later.

As to Sofia Samodelkina, in her interview after the free skate she admitted she was inspired by Alexandra Trusova storming five quads at Chelyabinsk Test Skates. Therefore she landed three quads which brought her to the third place. It is also quite peculiar that both Sofia S. and her idol Sasha sadly failed to land their 3As in SP (Sasha competed in the U.S. International in Boston).

Let’s also congratulate Anastasia Zinina with her debut together with Evgeny Plushenko. Her quad toeloop as well as artistic skills (look at her arms in motion!) are amazing.
