Season 5 predictions for Byler, El, Will, and based on the plot and characters we've been given

Hi @teambyler (Ronald Off the Record/the "Byler lawyer") here! Just wanna share a couple of thoughts I had today while watching ST reaction videos:

Defeating Vecna will involve El finding out how to tap love instead of hate. However, after two seasons of Mike failing to say he loves her and his actual "love confession" failing to help her, her journey in s5 will be to figure how to do that. But she also is too hard on herself, she sees all bad things as HER responsibility, and this tends to ISOLATE her from her friends. Her journey in s5 involves learning to rely on her friends, and knowing that it ISN'T ONLY HER. Which in the one sense will be a relief, but also another source of anxiety as she has to rely on her friends putting themselves in danger. (A choice she has NEVER had to make before; she has always been their protector.)

Okay, a crazy idea, but what if TIME TRAVEL and CHANGING HISTORY is an aspect of taking on the Upside Down? (Linda Hamilton from the Terminator franchise guest stars, so these might be themes.) I've always speculated that as part of Will's well-developed character trait of selflessness, that Will sacrificing himself will be one way to defeat Vecna. (And that the fear of losing Will might prompt Mike to confess his love.) The show has established that the Upside Down seems to have formed (or be frozen in time) from the night Will went missing. What if the Hawkins gang discovers (through Will's flashbacks to the UD) that ALL the bad events in Hawkins after his disappearance are rooted in his SURVIVING the kidnapping? He might be an anchor to Vecna's reach to the "rightside up," or Vecna steals a power from him that lets him reach to the other side? And that apparently the only way to reverse terrible events is for Will to give his own life, either in the present day or the child version of himself in 1983? Wouldn't THAT be something! And oh wait I dreamed up that exact scenario already on my blog lol.

holly wheeler - who/what are you? an informal post about all of the holly oddities I've discovered so far.

where do I even begin with this one? I'm just going to jump into it and show you all the weird connections I've found that mostly relate to holly-el/jane, holly-alice and holly-sarah. I have no real conclusions so far so I invite everyone to take a look and share their thoughts.

oddity one: the hair

All four are blonde girls, and three have pigtails or twin braids, reminiscent of rabbit ears.

oddity two: the rabbits

And why the rabbits? Well, they're all a reference to Alice in Wonderland. The first rabbit in the painting in Jane's room is just literally the rabbit from AIW, fitted with a pocketwatch.

Holly's outfit in Season 5 is incredibly colourful and there are at least 3 different rainbow items inside her room.

My questions have already been: why is Vecna/Henry seemingly interested in her enough to not only lure her but continue 'playing' with her for multiple scenes? Why is Holly suddenly relevant?

I'm also a BTVS fan, and the idea of a younger sister suddenly introduced had me thinking of Dawn. Dawn was Buffy's younger sister introduced suddenly in Season 5 (literally out of nowhere) - until it turned out that she wasn't a fully real person, but a powerful energy turned into a human that was sent to the Summers' house where they would protect her. She never existed until she was fourteen, but they all believed she had with false memories. Furthermore, she becomes the target of that season's villain which Buffy has to protect.

So then we get to Holly's room:

Most notably for this post are ALF and the 'A Royal Pain' book. Let me just show you the plot summaries for both, starting with ALF:

I initially thought the ALF reference was just a reference to El (and it very much could be a dual thing). But considering the strangeness.... and the parallels that are coming to light between them.

A Royal Pain:

There has already been baby-switch precedent in the show. In fact it's a major theory about Jane Ives and El - that they aren't the same child. But when it's been specifically brought up, it's been in relation to the Wheelers. Karen, was your other daughter swapped in the hospital? Or something even crazier?

I'll get to more when my ideas are less of a mess. But there's also something interesting @bylerposting has brought up - the way that Mike has this whole interesting out of place dialogue with El.

But what if it wasn't about El - what if it was also subtext for Holly? She came into the family even though she wasn't a biological daughter. The Wheelers were like her new parents, and Nancy was like her new sister.

And there's so much more I'm thinking of but can't get to right now, like Holly with the lights and her perception of the supernatural before others sense it. I just want to get this ball rolling for real.

do you guys ever think abt how in st4 they introduced the concept of nina and blocked out memories to protect someone from trauma… and now we know they’re filming unseen scenes from will in the UD… wouldn’t it be RLLY cool if el brought nina up, and idk?? like?? meditated with will to access his memories in search of the key to defeat vecna? maybe from something that happened in the UD that he blocked out? would high-key be a bomb ass scene and so cool for some willel bonding🤞

Okay y’all so I have been thinking about the finale since Friday and the more I puzzle on it, the less I believe Ruby’s fairy tale ending was genuine. I of course was a big proponent of the “Ruby is River’s daughter theory”, but I am starting to be one of those people who think she is an unknown member of the pantheon. More specifically, I think she may be the daughter of The Trickster, I’ll go into why.

Let’s start with Ruby’s “mom” in the flashback, her hooded face with humanoid lips visible gives me serious Trickster vibes from SJA. A constant lament was “WHY CAN’T I SEE HER FACE?��� Well, The Trickster really doesn’t have much of a face aside from ruby-red lips and sharp teeth. Honestly, why would a 15 year old have such an ominous cloak and where did she get it between the maternity ward and abandoning Ruby at the church? Granted a 15 year old still high on painkillers from giving birth could definitely do some zany shit, but it seems like a stretch to me. If my hunch is somehow correct, I would go so far to say that in the time window they did not see Ruby’s parent crying under the hood, but rather laughing maniacally. In fact, I honestly thought she was laughing when I first watched that scene. If the “mom” is actually The Trickster, then he would definitely have been laughing as he takes great pleasure in messing around with The Doctor and their companions.

The Trickster is the god of traps, which typically involves some narrative that a person falls prey to in order to be ensnared by the trap set for them. Ruby as the child of that entity could totally be able to create narratives that people would happily believe and become a part of, or to put it succinctly: a story. It isn’t any further of a stretch than the god of games having a child that is the god of music.

I think as the season went on, Ruby subconsciously created her own happy ending and bio parents piece by piece. Finding her parents seemed to be a process of creation as it unfolded. The DNA scan in 2046 only showed Ruby’s DNA twice. After defeating Sutekh though, 2024 UNIT was able to seamlessly find some ordinary and flawed woman eager to reconnect with and apologize to her abandoned child. Her bio mom is even willing to reach out to a presumable one night stand from 20 years ago, catch up with him, and see if he wants to become a father figure after two decades. Also the origin of Ruby’s name through a street sign that seemed to not exist in the footage, until it suddenly did, felt like an actual change to the timeline. I have nothing against this ending per se, it just all felt deliberately too perfect as if reality was bending entirely to Ruby’s deepest desires. To top it off Ruby somehow pulled the exact narrative of 10 and Rose’s goodbye for 15 and herself, almost as if unconsciously she tuned into one of The Doctor’s deepest heartbreaks to reflect how horribly she felt about leaving them.

I don’t think Ruby’s real story is close to done. I think her perfect ending will start to show cracks, and the reality of it will seem more created than true. Eventually we may even see her wake up to the truth of her power in time for The Trickster to come in and truly fuck around with things for her and 15. It would be interesting to see her owning her power to send her own bio parent into a narrative that The Trickster could never escape.

There is just too much that went unaddressed. How did Ruby conjure snow? Why was Maestro so disturbed by her hidden song that they said there was something seriously WRONG with her (Maestro literally refers to her as a CREATURE)? How did she fold her own timeline back in 73 yards? Why were people so terrified of or infuriated by the apparition that we now know was Ruby? Did the Ruby in the distance tell people about her ties to the Pantheon of Discord? Did the apparition know the truth of Ruby that is hidden even from herself? Why would Sutekh care about the hooded parent more than anything else he creeped on during his centuries attached to the TARDIS? Is he a Jerry Springer fan, obsessed with “you ARE/ARE NOT the parent” reveals?

One final thing that makes me think they may pull a child of The Trickster into the story. In SJA before Elisabeth Sladen passed, they were planning on revealing that her adopted daughter Sky was really The Trickster’s child all along. The episode never aired as SJA could not go on without Elisabeth. I could see RTD honoring her show by making that story canon through Ruby. After all, Ruby too is an adopted daughter.

I’m also camp “Darcy probably has had little, if any, sex” for all your reasons and because he kind of comes across like he thinks someone below him socially is too inferior to engage with in any kind of intimacy, and anyone at his level he would respect their social standing too much to sleep with them without marriage. Like, he could pay for sex, but he’s probably not seducing anyone since he’s unwilling to be very polite to his less high standing gentry acquaintances in their own homes by the time of the novel.

Also the closer to you to the novel the more you have his sister nearly having her life ruined by a man sleeping with her, so I suspect he’s less willing to make any choices that may reflect badly on her, even a little bit

Yeah, honestly the more I sit with it the more reasonable it seems that he probably was a virgin when he married. And then I've been learning about other men (like Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria) who actively rejected sex when taken to a brothel, and it didn't impact their status negatively or (openly, at least) get treated as a huge deal or *so strange* even if it wasn't the norm, so virgin gentlemen might not be such an outlandish thought as modern historical fiction has treated it. I knew the amount of reformed rakes in modern books was unrealistic, but didn't really question the idea that 'of course every gentleman had had at least a little premarital sex' until I started thinking about when and who in regards to Darcy and then doing a bit more historical research.

I'm afraid my days of thinking about this fictional man's sex life are far from over.

Unpopular take rn but I’m genuinely fine with Kali returning next season. Like I actually liked her character and the story she had for El.

Even though it’s not really expanded on, her powers are very different from El’s and is more similar to Henry’s instead. Moreover, her whole thing was to seek revenge on the people that wronged her in the lab and she wanted El to do the same as well. But instead, El chose not to seek revenge and to instead move on and not dwell in the past and build her own future. She instead went out to seek her friends and family instead of be bitter of the past.

That arc has played a big role in her character development.

If Kali comes back next season, I think she’ll play a big role in helping Will and El defeat Vecna. Since like I said that both 001 and 008 have similar powers, they could use her as like a practice for real Henry (if that makes sense). I saw posts mentioning how she can help Will remember experiences from the upside down when he was lost and I think it makes a lot of sense.

Plus I would love to actually get some closure for her character instead of just dissapearing after season 2.

Eleven will not die, and if you think she will, you're DUMB (with all due respect).

Why it doesn't make sense storywise?

Eleven is someone who spended 12 years of her life in a lab, been used as a weapon to defend the USA against foreigner forces, like the URSS and later the Upside Down. She didn't had a mother, father, or friends, only people that disguised themselves as some of these roles to take advantage of her, like Brenner and Henry. She has a number tattoed on her skin, to show and remember that it is all that she was for them, just a number. Dying defending the USA against the Upside Down would be totally against her character grow, it would affirm that she IS a weapon and died alongside with other unknown people, being just a number. My Queen Eleven can't have a ending like this, i would fucking hate the Duffer Brothers for the rest of my life.

What would it do to the Byler shipp?

Milkvans shippers would spend the rest of their lives saying that Mike only ended up with Will because Eleven died, and it would make my head hurt to hear this for the rest of my life.

thinking about some things from season 4 that were left out and how some of them match up with season 5

many of these things were from SCENES that didn't make it into the season 🤯

like scenes at bradley's where they were filmed at night and nothing shows up in season 4.... Have you seen it? because I haven't

But in s5 Murray appears wearing a supermarket shirt

Now to Lonnie, the actor who plays him was at the table read and so we were expecting to see him during the season but nothing either

But now in s5 we'll have a flashback where will and Jonathan are younger, not that it's confirmed, but for me Lonnie does appear, as does Joyce

Now the main thing (for me at least) There were recordings at Terry Ives' house but there were no scenes of the Ives house.

My guess is, as s4 and s5 were supposed to have been recorded together I think a lot of things from season 4 went into season 5 like the two examples I gave above.

The interesting thing for us is that both Kali and Terry were mentioned in addition to some subtle references, and if all this is a tease of what we're waiting for since they didn't manage to bring them back in season 4 for some reason.
