#Jasper and gemlings

What's Sard's main albatross? Each of our characters had a main problem, some sort of trauma, a stressor, a ghost haunting them. Was Sard an accident? Does she have a hard time being one a kind, like Steven? Does she feel defective in some way? Does she suffer from being able to make connections, do to Garnet's influence? Does she resent Steven, for being the reason Rose is gone?

i think all of those can and might coexist lol

sards was definitely unplanned but she wasn’t unwanted! i think pearl had the most complicated feelings about it as she was the one to have her but she had rose and garnet around; there was no way she could resent sardonyx for being there, not with their support so they would do everything in their power to make her feel loved. it was definitely easier with rose around but they tried nonetheless

i believe sardonyx’s main burden would be, like with amethyst and steven, how homeworld perceives her existence. gemlings have long since served any purpose on homeworld and gems with the ability to bare them were no longer produced. those gemlings that were found out were probably shattered on spot – they don’t need to waste room for imperfect gem prototypes when they have kindergartens and injectors that do a far more solid job with making gems than another gem than can only create so few at a time.

i don’t want this gemling idea to revolve around just gems being able to have sex because that’s already hackneyed but i can’t find a good enough alternative since that was just supposed to be the pearl-and-garnet-have-a-baby au LOL so instead of how they do it i’d focused on how homeworld banned something as simple and organic as procreation in favor of something more sustainable for them; how they police another natural and normal aspect of being alive for MOST living beings, 1984 orwell style lmao

so i think the biggest impact on her would be coming in contact with homeworld customs via peridot jasper the diamonds…pearl or garnet accidentally disclosing something etc. similar to amethyst her existence would be considered a mistake, a burden and useless in the gem society. along with the other two earthlings she would have to deal with being dubbed not enough and weak.

up until that point of coming in contact with their ideology her biggest issue would be navigating her parents trauma responses, especially after rose died, and like steven, having to coexist with them while they do wild shit out of grief and war trauma

she knew she was loved but the crystal gems aren’t exactly famous for being good parents. pearl can spiral easily at slightest provocation (and i know how badly having a hysterical anxious traumatized mom affects you and your relationship with her lol) and garnet can shut people out and become distant and cold when upset. this seems like a standard recipe for having a complicated relationship with parents

i think she does struggle to make connections like garnet but it’s more because of her explosive responses, which was more pearls influence if anything. she’s easily overwhelmed and if things become too much she blows up and then shuts in

i think she would only feel a little jealous of steven. when he was born it came with the tragedy of losing rose and while gemlings existed previously, everyone’s focus was on the new being, completely never seen before. it was hard getting any of her parents attention while they stressed over steven and the lack of rose and that was the first time she really felt left out and loved less. she and amethyst kept to each other while garnet sucked up her feelings to comfort pearl so any resentment towards steven for taking rose from them came with the fact that suddenly everything was falling apart around her! but sards quickly became friends with steven. they’re bros now 💪

I was wondering how the gems (aka X-Men and Brotherhood) would react to Skinny Honey Jasper Reader and Peach Pearl Reader, who survived the explosion of their spaceship, and even in the form of a fusion Opal Creed Reader??

The guilty ones, right?

Well...

They're shocked. They honestly thought those two had shattered or been vaporized, so to see them alive, their gem not cracked or broken to pieces, adds a few years that had fallen off their lifetime after they thought they'd died. They want to get closer to Creed Readers, but Creed Readers summon their weapons and gi charging in, not listening to a word they say. If they're fused... they didn't think their old gemling could get more extraordinary, but here they are, a whole new being, tall and powerful and shining bright like a star... It woukd help if their gemling wasn't trying to poof them on the spot, or throw them into an electric cell, but they deserve it, they know that.

If this is the Corrupted Light AU or Fused Corruoted Light AU, they're doing their best to overpower Creed Readers or Opal Creed Reader, hoping to either join them to the clustermind or to poof them and get then somewhere safer, to where they can properly cherish them and keep them safe and heal their relationship... They want to be closer, want to reconnect, want to see them as their own gem, and not a failure or someone to use as a scapegoat. And they plan to, if they can just catch their little gemling/s and their new friends...

(They're shocked and in awe they're alive, basically, amd don't care that Reader keeps trying to poof them, because they're just too happy to see them alive to think Reader is dangerous. They're genuine in changing, but they have a lot of making up to do to even begin to get Creed Reader to trust them, let alone to like them again...)

whos sands

she's a gemling oc that i dreamt up. she's the daughter of jasper and lapis (divorced). her full name is sand jasper lazuli, but only answers to sands. while technically a jasper, she doesn't fight very well with her fists, but she has sand powers the same way lapis has water powers.

Instead of dwelling on it, the girl stood up.. bristling past the slender gem to hold her hand out to the enraged commander desperately trying to convey peace.

“I know I can’t atone for Rose’s sins… and while I can’t fathom accepting beings like..” The hybrid’s eyes drifted over to the runt and the skinny Jasper and turnt to the Ruby- “them… to your ranks, I suppose I was being a tad bit rude.”

Ruby eased her anger into a tensed grit of her teeth, sneering down the offered hand to instead glare at Pearl- “Thought I was better? I am not gonna tolerate someone- Rose’s spawn or not- I refuse to allow anybody talking smack about my kids.” She smacked the hand aside and her gaze steeled- “You wouldn’t understand what it’s like raising two wonderful Gems that would’ve been harvested on Homeworld- harvested by people like her.. If she can discard them as defective because of their form… I wonder what she thinks of Pearls.. or is that your Diamond?” It appeared in the absence of Sapphire’s gentle guidance, the commander had to direct and target her frustrations without setting the temple ablaze with all the frustrations of the last decade apart from her friends.. if they’re even that anymore.

The heated glass left in the wake of the Ruby dashing back into the temple caused Jaz to whisper at the sight of the chaos, Sapphire already seemed to be in pursuit of talking to her partner.

“Mama Rubes… gets that way over us sometimes. . Its nice knowing that someone does.. because if it wasn’t for her? We’d be shattered.” Jaz will never forget the day that they met.. it used to be just her and Ames against the deserts and barren land- Amethyst was merely a gemling whilst she burst out the beta kindergarten already so aware of the world- getting pushed aside by Quartz that looked absolutely nothing like her.. it was the right decision to nap instead of hopping on the ship back to Homeworld.. deciding to learn all she could about this new world until she found someone wandering just like she was but Earth wasn’t as safe as they thought.. one murky evening, they were finally on their way into civilization and out of the Kindergartens.. they spent months wondering if there were anymore left, anymore outcasts like them.

What the sisters thought was a flawed Gem like them.. stood a slobbering beast snarling and swiping at them with reckless abandon.. finally cornering them- they clung to eachother as they braced for a darkness that never came.. hearing the clink of the very same feral gem as before fall to the ground.. and a red gem tilting her head.. seemingly deep in thought, analyzing the pair lowering her smoky gloves and hopping off the horse she rode in on.. fixing her lips to utter the word that’ll change the kindergarten siblings lives.

“Let’s go home, alright?”

Eris scoffed in response, brushing the sand off her shoulder, turning to the side with a sneer- “I’m fine.. just another lashing from Rose’s past-“ The young woman turnt to the pigtailed gem and an odd smile blossomed on her face washing away all the spite and frustration that was brewing from the previous confrontation- “Did you.. did you just defend me?”

Amethyst- for some reason seemed.. almost impressed, stars lit up her eyes in admiration- yes, the commander was still her boss, shards! Technically her mother.. but seeing someone that seemed so meek show so much fierce protectiveness.. she whistled out and stood back- “Dang pigtails! You got some serious gutso!” which was cut short by the glare sent by the Crystal Gem Leader.

“Is this a joke?! As reckless as Rose is, she was still revolutionary- you spitting out rhetoric that she’d poof you for is disgraceful!”

As promised, today’s quartz gemling is a Jasper. Her name is Fang and she and her twin sister Tiger (who I don’t have a picture of yet) were carried by Jasper after striking a bizarre bargain with Lapis. Fang is nice and docile and shy, unlike her sister who always wants to fight.

The angle is a little odd. I tried to crop it better.

Day two

Here’s my participation for Day two : Favourite AU, of the Jaspidot Week! 

It was, so fun to draw.  The context?  Jaspidot Gemling. Jasper and Peridot accidentally shared too much light and they created a geode. The day Peridot and Jasper became parents.

New baby!!!!

This Poppy Jasper. She’s pretty cool.

She’s part of an AU in which the Diamonds each have there own colonies and are usually at war. Jasper and Lapis and Peri and some other gems live on a small planet and have colonized it (no in the distructive way like the diamonds). Lapis and Jasper have gemlings and Poppy is part of one of their litters.

She was sent to spy on WD’s army, hence the Diamond crest on her uniform.
