was sardonyx also kept in the dark about gem related stuff (like amethyst)? or were pearl and garnet more open about it than rose?

oh they definitely kept her in the dark; i feel like the three of them had some sort of unspoken agreement to keep the kids away from the worst stuff that they were running from

pearl would especially not want her to know that she was a mass produced servant not even classified as a gem according homeworld, but i think sards would learn that one way or another which would induce a very uncomfortable but needed conversation with her mom

garnet wouldn’t be very vocal about the war or their past because she thinks it wasn’t anything pretty that she would want her daughter to worry about at any point. just because they went through hell and back to be able to live as who they are doesn’t mean her baby needs to carry all that baggage with them

i think that with sardonyx around they would have a better approach when handling steven and the burden of living in roses shadow. they would stay more conscious about not putting unnecessary expectations onto him once they had realized he’s a different person than rose

and i imagine that if gemlings had a reason to exist in the gem society at any point, it can’t have been for anything good and definitely didn’t happen under fun circumstances that they would want sardonyx to be aware of. similar to amethyst, just because their existence and role on homeworld would be something bad doesn’t mean that they are inherently, too

maybe gemlings were the prototype gems? maybe if the injectors were wired wrong they would create baby gems but that wouldn’t make much sense

maybe it was a way to raise the number of gems before injectors were even introduced? a practice borrowed from organics, and with pearl being 11 thousand years old she would still be made during the time which gem expansion via gemlings was slowly dying out. maybe most pearls during that time were designed with that in mind and she got the lucky ticket lol

i don’t want this to turn into one of these weird questionable pregnancy gemling au so i’ll leave this plot point at that i think lmao but however it would go, that’s also def stuff pearl and garnet would not want sards to know about. they would want both her and steven and amethyst to experience the freedom of earth. it shouldn’t matter to them how or why they would exist on homeworld, they’re earthlings

For Half-Gem Diamond Creed Reader (gosh that's a mouthful) I imagine they don't act like a typical Diamond. They grew up humble, not knowing or seeing their gem type as a reason to act as better.

They don't naturally make demands or insist on leading, instead defaulting to letting their guardian make any gem related decisions. ( I imagine Wolverine because he is Victor's cluster "brother") They're quick tempered but in protection of what they care about. They don't particularly want the finest or rarest things, as long as their needs are satisfied and the gems (or humans) under their care are safe, and they tend to take care of problems themselves so they arent very demanding. They get super popular among more common gems and off colors because they don't know or care about gem designations but judge based on each individual's actions.

YES! Yes, that's Half Diamond Creed Reader once they end up on Homeworld (after their past self ended up getting reborn/remade as part human). They don't care about the status quo, or what the gems want them to be, as they just want to be themself, and want others to be themselves too. And the other Diamonds aren't going to argue; they're the reason they left, or their past self left, and now that they have them back, they'll do what it takes to keep them safe and happy. If that's letting other gems be off color and themselves amd just trying to be nicer, than that's what they'll do! (To be fair, half of them slackened their punishments once they thought Diamond Creed Reader had shattered on Earth. The others... they became worse, not wanting imperfection to stain the memory of their fallen gemling/clustermate/kid/sibling...

I imagine Creed Reader has had nightmares of what their past self endured, but has never known why it happened, or who it happened to... Until they see a giant gem person land on Earth in their favorite rocket ship and decided to cause trouble... Leading Diamond Creed Reader to take a stand!

And once the other Gem, after a long fight, is about to shatter them... They take a closer look at Reader's gem, realize it's not a quartz, it's a Diamond, and promptly goes from vengeful to sad and heartbreakingly hopeful...

They don't waste any time taking their gemling/clustermate back with them, and to scour the Earth for their ship, as well as alerting Homeworld to their miraculous discovery... Their long lost, thought-to-be-dead gemling/clustermate is returning, they need to alert the others at once! They need to reassemble their long lost court! Their entourage! Their chambers! And oh stars, the old connected Diamond rooms need to be cleaned and prepared! Where are their pearls?! Where are their courts? They need to get to working, NOW, to be ready by the time they make it to Homeworld with Reader!!!

(Imagine if each Diamond has a pearl, but their Pearl is like a mini version of themself... Would that make sense? Or should their Pearl be an oc, or other X-Men character?)

Okay so some updates:

1.) Chapter Two of “An Endless Existence” is gonna be uploaded tomorrow. I’m just writing the final scenes and some adjustments to the writing/ cleaning things up. Estimated Word count is around 3,000 words (more or less), and introduces the main plot/problem, so I’m excited for that-

2.) Also am working on some concept art/ references of the minor diamonds. So far, Moon Diamond, Black Diamond and Daria Diamond all have a design. Moon and Daria were the easiest for me because I’ve had designs for them since 2018, and it was really just me now getting the chance to properly put that onto paper (or tablet) and making it official.

3.) while going through old ideas from 2018, I came across a small sketch I drew of if Orange and White had had Gemlings (I was a kid, pls do not judge me)- and decided to do teenager me some justice and actually properly draw them-

Champange and Crysanthemun will never be canon in my fanfic (as Orange and Whites relationship has changed) but yeah- (they are twins btw, not that it really matters)

With the potential resurgence of my Steven Universe hyperfixation I present to you some of my favorite pearl designs and a Nacre I've done, which I headcannon as the ones in charge of Pearl Beds/Production.

I have a whole ass AU where Blue and Yellow Diamond fuse and shatter White and have to make a new way for gems to reproduce which ends up essentially becoming a version of a Gemling and or A/B/O verse that's been rumbling around my neurospicy brain so we'll see if I actually post the uncolored sketches I have or not.

so here’s a quick explanation of the different races in my fantasy world first off there are three races,

humans,

gifted,

and Neo humans usually referred to has Neos

So humans are well humans obviously not much is changed in this world as far as having regular human beings work the biggest difference is that some of them can have unnatural eye colors like purple gray, or maybe even red. This is usually a sign that at some point in their lineage they are related to a gifted or neo human

Gifted's they’re basically like X-Men mutant type characters, but they’re split into 3 classes

class 1 being humans who are carriers for the gene who can sometimes have an unusual eye or a hair color but they don’t have powers

then you have class 2 which basically look like humans they can have a natural or unnatural hair/ eyecolor, but they also have a power like the ability to turn invisible or faze through walls.

Then you have class 3 class 3 is where Benjamin falls on the scale that being a gift that physically affects the way you look to a drastic extent that meaning that your powers are literally tied into your looks

Then you have your neo humans as far has appearances go think pointy ears unnatural hair and eye colors, and usually quite beautiful

now neo’s are separated into two types, light Neos, and dark Neos this distinction, mostly lies within where they live one belonging to one kingdom and one belonging to the other.

The biggest difference between lights and darks is that dark Neos have a small sect within them called dragon neo‘s, which are basically like your regular neos, but they have physical attributes of dragons like horns, wings occasionally tails, lizard like eyes, sharper teeth, and small patches of scales, or fur depending on whether they are an eastern or western dragon no one knows why this occurs although there are some speculations the biggest one being simply that dark neos are more likely to intermingle with gifted than light Neos. As a result, they have more gifted like traits.

Neos have telekinetic like powers there are three classifications of neo powers.

Class 1 is being incredibly empathetic being able to feel others emotions, and even manipulate them to an extent they can communicate telepathically and are more in touch with their own emotions than most and are actually really good at helping others to comb down and process their emotions

class 2 Have more physical powers being able to move objects with their mind much more the telekinetic powers then class 1 who tend to be more Telepathic particularly strong class twos can even levitate themselves i.e. flying more or less

And then you have class 3, who have an even distribution of both powers, and wheeled them equally

It’s important to note that both class one and class two have access to both powers, but are gifted/are more adept at using one over the other

Neos powers actually come from being able to tap in to the life force of the universe and themselves when they use their powers I refer to there life force has aura.

Neos also believe that every being is tied to a gem, and that Neos can use gems to help harness and focus their auras/energy. so every neo character, you see is tied to a gem you can actually see this in jades original design, which I will be posting. As soon as I finish her doll she appears to have jades in bedded in her hand. Now this is a phenomenon known as being a Gemling, it is when a neos powers are so strong that a gem literally forms on their skin it’s considered rare, but far from unheard of

all beings are tied to a a gem as far as Neos are concerned, so even the human and gifted characters I’ve created I have picked out a gem for even though it isn’t really necessary for instance, although in his gem Sona version he’s an orange type of quartz Benjamin’s gem is coral Jade is a jade infinity is a bi-colored sapphire, and Paige and Logan are alexandrite

also, some Neo’s can physically see auras, which are usually the same color has a beings gem this is mostly recorded in Neos, who are half gifted has it appears that when the two races mix their powers often times have unexpected extras, whether they end up being gifted or neo

For example, Benjamin is half gifted half dark neo, and it could be speculated that his lizard like appearance has a possible tie to dragon Neos sect of the dark neos

Also, fun fact about neo society last names don’t follow the male bloodline instead you take the last name of which ever person has the higher social status. This means that you can end up with your dad‘s or your mom‘s last name depending on the social status, if the social statuses are equal then, you take the guys last name or hyphenat it and thus is tradition 

also Neos tend to have much less gendered fashion. Everyone wears skirts dresses and pants equally and dress in long beautiful dresses for important occasions.  it’s common for Neos, who live in particularly hot or sunny areas to wear, head dresses/hoods to protect themselves from the sun especially those with fair skin neos shoes of choice tend to be slip on’s or sandals, and they have the most distinctive fashion out of the three races

humans basically dress like humans do now and gifted similarly since they’re technically part of the humans although, as I’ve mentioned, some gifted’s are part Neo or live in Neo cities and would has such dress like Neos 

I almost forgot the way I draw eyes for each race is different so when I draw eyes for humans, they look like classic human eyes colored irises, black pupil standard, when I draw gifted like Benjamin their eyes are all one color in varying shades to make it look pretty from the pupil to the iris to the highlights when I do Neos, typically the pupil and highlights will be one color and the iris another however, occasionally all three parts will have a different color if the gem has a lot of colors in it and if they’re an opal, which has lots a little spots of colors in it, I will do what I call a fireworks effect on the iris. Which is  basically just a little splotches of colors everywhere 

 I’ll try to rustle up a picture comparing them to stick here 

Note, I am aware the names are not very original. In fact, it is a never ending point of annoyance for me. I just haven’t been able to come up with anything better so if you guys have any ideas, please please comment I have been trying to come with a better name for the Neos for years, and I have come up with nothing

After a long while (okay maybe a few years lol) I decided to get motivation and redraw some things from one of my favorite writers!

For the og corrupt gem reader book I like depicting the reader having the build of a Clydesdale horse (or at least the rear).I drew the design @starry-eyed-samantha made a while back!

I haven't forgotten about them 😊

I like depicting the homeworld au corrupt reader gets the build of a Texas long horn bull,very masculine and bulky!The sketch is just how I think the reader would look if they went berserk or something!

And finally the baby corrupt gemling reader!

I made their cheeks more chubbier than my old drawing and I tried to mimic a baby goat,build wise,but failed.

Feel free to ignore but I'm gonna hit you with another little scene.

Sands plopped herself on the beach, just a handful of yards from the steps to the Crystal Gem base. The not Rose, kind of Rose, what did he say his name was?...Steven, right. Had tried to include her in a "Together Breakfast" ritual and Sands couldn't stomach putting on the charade that morning. All she saw was the smiling face of the thing that...

She took a bite out of the croissant Garnet handed her before she walked out. That was the condition of her being excused, she could leave, but needed to still eat. The texture and flavor of this bizarre human food helped to distract Sands enough from the lump in her throat and she took even breaths. She criss crossed her legs and mindlessly made designs in the sand with her finger.

Lapis stood in the middle of their home base, feeling a little out of place. This secure location was indeed her home base as much as it was Jasper's and Sands', but her schedule had meant she'd barely seen these walls of pastel and muted pinks and greys and iron blues ever. Which was fine by her, honestly. If she was buried in her work, in her job, carefully working with other Lapises, then her sense of normalcy could come back, even for just a little while.

Now however, Jasper was the one that had to leave, and Lapis had to stay to care for Sands. It had been a long while since their times had synced up, so it had been a long while since they've fought or sat pissed in the home base together, or possibly even worse attempted a life together. Jasper obviously didn't want to leave Sands, but no one had choices apparently anymore, and so Lapis found herself alone, with her kid.

"Do you want to train?" Sands quietly asked her sire. She tried to keep her interest muted, but she was curious about what Lapis' job even was. She had never had a chance to see her terraforming.

"No," Lapis shut that down and took a seat on a bench, like she'd already worked a full year's job, "I don't know the first thing about Quartz training."

"Ok," Sands quickly made her peace with this, "...what about with what you do?"

Lapis looked at her like she had lobsters coming out of her ears, in a world where they both knew what ears and lobsters were, "I mean. Have you used water at all yet? Jasper would've reported that to me already." She rubbed the bridge of her nose just at the mention of her.

"No..." Sands sounded defeated, "I'm not sure I can..."

Lapis sighed. Well, she thought. Jasper wouldn't know anything about Lazuli powers anyway, how they worked.

"Ok," Lapis began and Sands lit up more than she could hide, "if you even have water manipulation powers, I can show you basic techniques to figure it out. Here, get up," Sands scrambled up on the bench next to Lapis and made sure she wasn't in contact with her.

Lapis conjured water in front of them and showed Sands simple movements. The gemling was captivated. She felt so lucky to have such powerful creators. Lapis trailed a thin stream of water in the air, doing a poor job of explaining her power, more of just explaining her job and the various swaths of cuts to make basic landscapes.

Sands trailed her fingers in the air, to make a simple landscape for a barracks on a new Gem colony. She had these movements memorized, even after stopping when she clearly hadn't inherited Lapis' water abilities. Her mother Jasper had been pissed and embarrassed when Sands kept all of a sudden tearing up at night after that.

Sands blinked when the waves in front of her became...dirty? What was in the water?

She dropped her hand and so did the dirt. Sands blinked and looked down. She raised her hand again and a pile of sand raised with it, loose sand falling almost beautifully under it.

SOBBING OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!! I'VE WANTED A SCENE LIKE THIS WRITTEN OUT, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THAT! THIS IS LOVELY OHHHH!! 💚💚💚 the flashback part is perfect, i love that addition. sands would be so distraught that she apparently didn't have either of her parents' power. ;_;

Meet our Corrupt Gem pack!

Up first; Fluffy Quartz!

Of course she's our stand-in for Garnet, as she's the "leader" of our little pack! If you've read anything about her; she's pretty got some pretty strong maternal instincts. She's very protective of just about anything smaller than her, but her main protection is her squishy son, Lil Quartz Steven! He makes her corruption a lot more tolerable...

Now since she's a (Y/N) [reader character], everything about her physically is based on the Reader's visuals. So, the fur color, skin color, eye color, horn color and shape, and even TONGUE color is upto the reader. As for the gemstone, it's a quartz by default, but like I said; Reader's choice. Same for the location. [Nowhere inappropriate]

She herself is a weapon. Her brute strength, energy beams, horns. And her temper when her cub is hurt.

May the diamonds have mercy on your soul.

Next up; Tri-Tongue! Our ameythst stand in!

Or Tri-T for short.

Anyway, I couldn't think of a better Amethyst stand in than this thing; it's three-pronged tongue is perfect for dragging in food, and it's chaotic energy it displayed [I.E. "The Kindergarten Kid" where it seemed to just be dancing and vibing to nothing, and how it was quick to trample peri after a brief kick to the face and running around like the road runner] so it only seemed proper to make her a stand-in to our spunky purple sister gem.

She still has this chaotic spunk, and is more then willing to give lil Quartz a piggy back ride or two, and may or may not be responsible for raiding the big Donut dumpsters on a regular basis. Since lil Quartz loves to tag along with her on uncharted adventures, she's gotten under Centi and Fluffy's skin a fair amount of times, but they remain patient with her since she's long since forgotten that she was corrupted.

...yeah, I didn't know what to change about her. I plan to have her covered in flowers, have her legs strung up in various accessories n' junk, all of that stuff.

Her "weapons" are her tongue(s) and her talons. Her speed may also be an effective ability; since she could either break your legs, or evade you.

Finally, our pearl stand in: Centipeetle!

Aside from the beaks, she seemed like a pretty good fit.

She's anxious like pearl was, and is always on the look out for the Crystal Gems Gem Poofers, and as a result she doesn't sleep often. She enjoys her time sunning, naps and teaching lil Quartz how to defend himself.

And she might have some feelings for Quartz Reader. And since reader is still present; there's no hard feelings towards lil Quartz. If anything, he's just not too good at listening.

Now, the only drastic change about her is her face. Trust me, I tried to keep to the eye-in-beak design, but I couldn't do it. It kept coming out more uncanny than it already is, because the beak would be uneven and crooked. It's also easier to convey emotions with this style, because i can't exactly draw proper emotions when the face is inside out(?)

Of course her "weapons" are her acid spit and pincers. And the fact she has the ability to scale walls and change her size might throw a person off. And with her speed and multiple legs, she has the ability to run you over like a freight train.

Team ethic! (Kinda...?)

Centi's responsible for the night watch and training.

TM's responsible(?) for keeping him entertained, curious and cheery.

Fluffy Quartz is responsible for the mothering; feeding, cleaning, making sure he's safe and happy, all of that.

The whole team works together to care and protect the small squishy gemling, only wanting him to live the best life he would with corrupt gems. Being corrupted, they really only expected him to live. No leadership. No fighting big monsters. (by himself) Just... remain alive and happy. With their assistance, of course.

I mean, if they have no sense of direction/purpose with themselves, why should that pressure be on him, right?

also, since garnet is (in the simplest terms) essentially the "child" of ruby and sapphire.. does that make them baby sard's grandparents? would probably not make sense in the grand scheme of things but it's an entertaining thought To Me hehe

hw gems probably wouldn’t see it like that since a mixed fusion having a gemling is probably a batshit crazy concept to them lol but in a human au they would definitely be her grandmothers <3

(though coral does seem to take after ruby in ways that even garnet doesn’t so i like to imagine that the kids can share some of ruby and sapphs characteristics hahah)

who here remembers Belle & Sarah (y’know those Spinearl gemlings I made a year ago) well I figured since it‘s been while since I drew them so here is some art along with some grownup designs of them

Rebecca Sugar was reportedly surprised that the fandom never worked out that the Gems are actually solar-powered robots (though a form very different from what we would recognize as robots), but honestly, it fits the pattern of a lot of a fandom bending over backwards to pretend Gems are more human-like than they really are.

i’ve been in this fandom since the big complain button was the pilot designs and everyone wanting the show to look like that, and from the beginning, you had people assuming Gems were actually humans or were transformed from humans, and it went on from there.

you had people who insisted that all ‘good fusions’ were the ones that most resembled humans. that had to have as few eyes as possible, or as few limbs, and be close to human size. fortunately, the existence of fusions like Steg (multiple limbs, giant) and Obsidian (so monstrous they cannot even speak normally and the biggest fusion in-series) disproved this, being both very inhuman and also forged from the strongest relationships in the show.

And it goes on; the fandom has a bad habit of assuming the Gems are more like humans, or are just humans with magical powers and Gem cores, and this caused major problems. it’s only become more widespread recently that Gems blatantly differ from humans psychologically, socially, and on the level of basic needs on so many levels that they only really make sense when you view them not as magical girl-type species, but as... well, robots made of light with a consciousness housed in a mineral deposit.

I mean, i remember when everyone wanted gemlings to be a thing? “How else could Gems reproduce?” people insisted, even though the show subtextually implied that if they COULD reproduce physically, they woudn’t be making Kindergartens. The idea that they were artificially made, with no other means, never occurred to people, as far as I could glean from fandom drama. They COULDN’T reproduce.

I feel a lot of this is because they have human-like designs; sure, this makes them relatable, but it also makes viewers make the dangerous assumptions that Gems are more like humans than they really are, and they’re honestly very alien; physically, mentally, and especially socially.

When you think of them not as colorful humans, but as robots made of hard light, with the mental differences you would expect of artificial beings built for specific purposes and group-think that are learning to deviate from those patterns, everything about them makes a LOT more sense.

She’ll end up being a baby sitter for Rosie P. when she can’t take her little gemling with her. Pearl Dislikes children greatly so she requested one of Pink’s old rhodo’s to come help take care of the new babe.

Gay people redesigns??

Ok so!!

Jasper:

I hc quartzes have harder skin that feels like scales of rock on their backs, which protect them from being hurt by their spindashes/being attacked from behind. When they emerge, it’s a few plates of that rock, but as they get older and have moved around more, the rock becomes more and more segmented. You can roughly estimate a quartz’s age based on their scales!

Jasper also has a lil tail as an extra corruption scar. Also big tusks, more elven ears and green eyes.

This is the same au where Jasper had a gemling, so she has a lil bit of squish on her tummy (I’m sure u can find my gemling design if u look up #malachite on my blog)

Peridot:

She is fat! She is squishy!

In canon, she’s got more of a curvy figure then most gems so I decided to work with that!

Also she still has limb enhancers cuz I’m ride or die for peridot with limb differences/amputations!

Old hc designs with the star shaped hair are amazing so I gave her that, as well as vaguely star shaped glasses.

(Ok I’m giving you some wiggle room if u don’t wanna see the boobies)
