the Timeless Allure of LJR Jordan 1 Shoes
Jordan 1 shoes have become iconic not just for sneaker enthusiasts but for fashion lovers worldwide. What makes these shoes so popular? Let's delve into the reasons behind the timeless allure of LJR Jordan 1s.
Basketball Heritage:
Jordan 1s were initially designed for basketball legend Michael Jordan in 1985. The shoes hold a special place in sports history, being the first signature pair for Jordan. This connection to a basketball icon contributes to the enduring popularity of Jordan 1s.
Classic Design:
The design of LJR Jordan 1 shoes is simple yet striking. The high-top silhouette, distinctive Nike Swoosh, and a variety of colorways make them stand out. The classic look appeals to both sneaker enthusiasts and those seeking a versatile fashion statement.
Cultural Impact:
Beyond the basketball court,LJR Jordan 1s have left an indelible mark on pop culture. They have been embraced by musicians, artists, and influencers, further elevating their status. The shoes symbolize more than just sportswear – they represent a cultural movement.
Limited Edition Releases:
The scarcity of certain Jordan 1 models contributes to their allure. Limited edition releases create a sense of exclusivity, driving demand among collectors and enthusiasts. The anticipation and hype surrounding new drops add to the mystique of Jordan 1s.
In conclusion, the enduring popularity of LJR Batch shoes can be attributed to their rich basketball heritage, classic design, cultural impact, and the strategic release of limited editions. These factors have combined to make LJR Jordan 1s not just footwear but a cultural phenomenon.

Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Chicago Lost and Found Rers Sneaker DZ5485-612
The original Air Jordan 1 Chicago colorway was first introduced in 1985 and has only been retroed a few times since. But 2022 is the year that the colorway returns with an added vintage look. Pre-yellowed accents and cracked leather uppers showcase a fabricated look of age and wear. The Air Jordan 1 Lost and Found Chicago released in November of 2022.

The original story of shoes
Behind every pair of shoes, there is a unique story that records every detail of people's lives. This is a set of original shoe stories. Let us walk into these unique shoes and feel the emotions and memories behind them.

Military boots from the war years: This pair of heavy military boots has stepped into the smoke of war and witnessed the owner's bravery during the war years. The boot body is engraved with the marks of vicissitudes of life, every crease is the tenacity of a life, and every piece of soil is a contribution to the country. This pair of military boots is a witness to the history of war and a silent narration of a hero.
High heels under the stage light and shadow: High heels are not only a fashion icon in women's shoe cabinets, but also a stage star in a passionate life. This pair of bright high heels once accompanied the dancers on the brightly lit stage, dancing to the melody of dreams. Every time the high heels hit the floor, it is the persistence of the dream, and every inch of the sole is the accumulation of hard work.
The story of fishermen’s cloth shoes: A pair of cloth shoes, although simple, carries the livelihood of fishermen and the expectations of their families. This pair of cloth shoes lingers in the sea breeze, accompanying the fishermen through the wind and waves. The muddy harbor, the sail under the clear sky, every step is a responsibility to the family. This pair of cloth shoes is not only a kind of clothing, but also a attachment to home.
Chapter of basketball shoes under your feet: Basketball shoes are the passion on the court and the testimony of youth. This pair of basketball shoes once flew on the court and carried the passion of youth. The dusty soles record every jump and every struggle. This pair of basketball shoes is a witness of friendship and a pursuer of dreams.
Persistent running shoes: Running shoes are the runner's partner, witnessing every persistence and breakthrough. This pair of running shoes cuts through the breeze in the morning light, and the runner's heartbeat merges with the ground. Every fatigue is a challenge to oneself, and every acceleration is a desire for the future. This pair of running shoes represents the persistence and tenacity of a runner.
Every pair of shoes has its own story, and they bear witness to the twists and turns of life. These original shoe stories are like small chapters of life, recording the footprints left by people in different times.

WRONG JERSEY
PAIGE BUECKERS X READER

| synopsis: you’re a uconn senior who doesn’t do game days—until your best friend finally drags you to one. you show up in an azzi fudd jersey. paige bueckers shows up with eyes only for you. one too many glances across the court and one flirty encounter at ted’s later, and you’re wondering if it’s possible to fall for someone in four quarters and a drink.
| warnings: suggestive content, drinking, flirting, language, college shenanigans, heavy eye contact, one (1) wrist grab
| word count: 4.1k
dina’s been on your ass for weeks.
“just come to the damn game,” she groans, lying dramatically across your twin XL like she doesn’t have two essays due and a scouting report to finish. “it’ll be fun. the vibes will be immaculate. and paige will be there.”
you raise a brow from your desk, mid-scroll through a spreadsheet for your senior business capstone. “and?”
“and,” dina grins, “all the girls love paige. come on. just this once?”
you don’t answer right away, but she sees the flicker in your eyes—curiosity, intrigue, something—and she pounces.
“plus we’re all going to ted’s after. you haven’t had a night out since halloween.”
she’s right, unfortunately. so you groan, shut your laptop, and throw your hands up in surrender.
“fine. but if i miss this project deadline because of you, you’re writing the executive summary.”
“deal,” she chirps.
—
you’ve been to a few games before—dina’s job as one the team manager’s made sure of that—but this season’s been nonstop. between job interviews, papers, and back-to-back presentations, basketball had taken a backseat.
still, when dina texts you a ticket and says, reserved student section. wear something hot, you listen.
your azzi fudd jersey still looks brand new. dina got it for you last year after you said azzi was “cold as hell” during her freshman season. she even introduced you once, saying, “this is my friend. she thinks you’re sick.” azzi had smiled and said thanks, and you swore she remembered you in class this semester—sociology 2312—because she always waved.
you throw on the jersey over some black baggy jeans, lace up your jordan 4s, and brush through your hair until it sits just right. a little gloss, some mascara, and you’re out the door.
gampel is already buzzing when you show up. the crowd is loud, the energy thick, and the student section is packed with navy and white. you spot your seat, right in the middle of the chaos, and slide in just as the lights dim for warmups.
the team jogs out onto the court, and immediately, you feel it.
or maybe—you feel her.
paige bueckers walks out like she owns the floor. tall, calm, braid swaying as she dribbles toward the three-point line. and somehow—somehow—her eyes catch yours.
you blink. she doesn’t. then, slowly, her gaze dips, cheeks flushing ever so slightly before she looks away.
did she just—
“HEY!” dina screams, grabbing you into a quick hug. she’s breathless, clipboard still in hand. “you made it! holy shit. i didn’t think you would.”
“you peer pressured me.”
“and look at you. repping azzi. cute.”
you laugh, but your eyes flick toward paige again—just in time to see her watching. dina pulls away and heads toward the bench, but not before paige intercepts her, grabbing her by the elbow. they speak quietly, and then they both look back at you.
you freeze.
paige says something else to azzi, who turns her head, smirks, and bumps shoulders with kk. ice snorts.
yeah, they’re definitely talking about you.
paige’s eyes are on you all through warmups. it’s subtle if you don’t know better—but you do. you catch it every time she fixes her ponytail, every look she sends your way after a swish.
you try to play it cool. totally normal. completely casual. just a hot six-foot-something hooper staring at you like you’re the only person in the arena.
no big deal.
—
the game tips off and uconn dominates. paige is on another level tonight—no-look passes, step-back threes, crossovers that make the crowd gasp. you’re not a basketball expert, but you know when someone’s cooking.
and she’s cooking.
the student section’s rowdy. you scream with everyone else. paige hits a clutch three and points to the stands, eyes scanning—and for a second, you think it’s for you.
your stomach flips.
—
somehow, dina convinces you to go to ted’s after. she claims “everyone’s going” and you need to “celebrate the win” and also “stop being lame.”
you cave.
the bar’s packed, but familiar. sticky floors, overpriced drinks, and music just loud enough to keep you yelling across tables. you barely make it to the bar when you hear her.
“hey.”
you turn. paige is next to you, black hoodie on now, with a pair of gray sweatpants. waves a little looser around her face after taking her braids out. soft. casual. attractive.
“hey,” you say, pretending your heart isn’t in your throat.
“you had fun at the game?”
“yeah,” you say, turning to face her fully. “you were... really good.”
she smiles, slow and satisfied. “you always this generous with compliments or just for me?”
you arch a brow. “depends. you always this flirty or just with me?”
her grin widens. “guess you’ll have to find out.”
you shake your head, but your smile betrays you. “dina said you’re tired of being a campus celebrity.”
“she talks too much,” paige mutters, eyes never leaving yours. “but she did say you’re best friends.”
“that’s true. she also said you asked about me at the game.” you say teasingly.
she doesn’t even flinch. “guilty. azzi said you’re in one of her classes. said you’re smart. quiet. kinda hot when you’re focused.”
you blink. “azzi said that?”
“no,” she shrugs. “that was me.”
and then she smirks, like she knows exactly what she’s doing.
you don’t say anything at first. the bartender slides your drink over. paige orders a dirty shirley. she pays before you can.
“you didn’t have to—”
“i wanted to.”
you look at her, eyes warm and unreadable, and for a second, the noise of the bar fades. you take a sip.
“so...” she says, leaning in just enough to make your breath hitch, “you giving me your number or what?”
you laugh, finally, cheeks flushed. “smooth.”
“you like it.”
you type your number in her phone. she doesn’t look away as she saves it.
“i’ll text you.”
“i hope so.”
“and maybe next time,” she says, brushing a hand lightly over your waist as she passes by, “you’ll wear my jersey.”

Jared Padalecki Joins ‘Fire Country’ For Guest Arc That Could Lead To New Franchise Offshoot
EXCLUSIVE: Jared Padalecki is returning to series television. The former Supernatural star, coming off a four-season run as the lead of Walker, has been tapped for a three-episode arc on the upcoming third season of CBS‘ hit drama series Fire Country, headlined and executive produced by Max Thieriot.
He will play Camden, a SoCal firefighter and maverick with a surfer swagger who is a force to be reckoned with and immediately recognizes Bode’s (Thieriot) raw talent.
The deal with Fire Country producer CBS Studios is strictly for the recurring role, sources said. Given Padalecki’s status as a popular leading man with two hit series under his belt, I hear there is a possibility for the guest stint to lead to a new spinoff headlined by him that would join the upcoming Sheriff Country.
Sources stress that the idea is still in its nascent stages. And similarly to the NCIS franchise, which originated on CBS and has generated four domestic offshoots on the network but has also expanded into streaming with the latest spinoff, NCIS: Tony & Ziva (as well as the streaming/broadcast NCIS: Sydney), a new Fire Country spinoff could be for broadcast or streaming. Reps for CBS and CBS Studios declined comment.
Fire Country, which was the most watched new broadcast series in its freshman season, was quickly identified by the CBS leadership as a potential franchise anchor that could spawn multiple spinoffs.
“We are focused on mass-appeal franchises,” CBS President and CEO George Cheeks said in June 2023. “This season’s number one show was Fire Country, which completely lends itself to building out a whole new universe… It became very clear that not only was the show special, it really felt like this could be a great example of us building together a franchise from scratch.”
The first Fire Country spinoff, the Morena Baccarin-starring Sheriff Country, which started off as a planted spinoff episode on the mothership series this past season, was recently picked up to series for 2025-26.
Keeping Padalecki in the fold has been a priority for CBS Studios following the end of its CW drama Walker, on which he was star and executive producer, leading to creating the opportunity for him on Fire Country. Walker was canceled for financial reasons despite being the network’s most watched series.
Fire Country averages more than 10 million viewers per episode in multi-platform viewing. (Live+35-day on Paramount + and CBS TVE)
Season 1 became available on Netflix in the US August 1 and has already reached #3 in the streamer’s daily rankings. This is an additional domestic streaming window for Fire Country whose first two seasons are on Paramount+. It is designed to give the show additional exposure ahead of its Oct. 18 Season 3 premiere on CBS.
From creators and executive producers Tony Phelan, Joan Rater and Thieriot, inspired by Thieriot’s experiences growing up in Northern California, the series follows Bode Donovan (Thieriot), a young convict seeking redemption and a shortened prison sentence by joining a prison release firefighting program in Northern California, which sends him back to his hometown.
Billy Burke, Kevin Alejandro, Diane Farr, Stephanie Arcila, Jordan Calloway and Jules Latimer also star. Tia Napolitano, who also serves as showrunner, executive produces alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed of Jerry Bruckheimer Television.
Since the end of Walker, Padalecki also has discussed a role on the upcoming fifth and final season of Prime Videos The Boys, developed and executive produced by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke. He is repped by UTA, Industry Entertainment and Fuller Law.

Trans Rights Readathon Recs!
Books by Trans Authors - Part 1
This recommendations post for Trans Rights Readathon is brought to you by books we already had in our library and it got a little out of hand! We decided first to break things down by other rep in case that was helpful for folks. We have another post planned breaking things down by genre as well, so stay tuned! With series, we only include the first book in the series to keep our stacks slightly more manageable!
As far as we know, the authors here are out as trans / nonbinary / genderqueer. Please don't be a dick and try to force authors who happen to write trans characters to out themselves! We did our best on rep breakdowns, but please let us know if we misfiled anything since we haven't read everything yet.

Trans, Nonbinary & Genderqueer Rep
Pet by Akwaeke Emezi
The Sacrifice by Rin Chupeco
An Accident of Stars by Foz Meadows
Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White
Thicker Than Blood by Sera Quim
Infinity Alchemist by Kacen Callender
A Bone in His Teeth by Kellen Graves
The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
Junker Seven by Olive J. Kelley
Godly Heathens by H.E. Edgmon
The Flowered Blade by Taylor Hubbard
You can find more recs for Polyamory Rep, Sapphic / wlw Rep, and Achillean / mlm Rep all written by trans authors under the cut!

Polyamory Rep
An Accident of Stars by Foz Meadows (Poly-normative world build, though I'm not 100% sure if there are any major polyamorous relationships)
Thicker Than Blood by Sera Quim (MMM with a trans masc protagonist)
Infinity Alchemist by Kacen Callender (M/M/genderfluid? Trans masc main character and a love interest who regularly uses alchemy to change their gender)
Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao (MMF)
SPECTR by Jordan L. Hawk (Whole series is M/M/genderless demon sharing a body with the main character. Volume 1 is being rebound which is why Volume 2 is pictured)
Mistress of Lies by K. M. Enright (From what I can tell MMF, but this is one of the few we haven't read yet)
Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco (MMF but Gabe would like me to convey that the most important part of the dynamic is that it's dom/sub/dom)
Please feel free to ask for more info on these especially, at least one of us have read most of these (and the few we don't are high up on our reading list for the week.)

Sapphic / wlw Rep
We have been building our sapphic library but apparently need to focus on more sapphic romance written by trans authors specifically! Here's what we do have (with some real gems we love). We tried to aim for all of these having the main romance be sapphic!
Gwen & Art are Not in Love by Lex Croucher
The Dead Take the A Train by Cassandra Khaw & Richard Kadrey (Book 1 in a duology)
Providence Girls by Morgan Dante
The Fall That Saved Us by Tamara Jerée
Time and Time Again by Chatham Greenfield
An Accident of Stars by Foz Meadows (I think this is a completed duology!)
Junker Seven by Olive J. Kelley (This is getting a sequel!)

Achillean / mlm Rep
This category ended up being...quite large. It really goes to show you just how many more gay books by trans authors have come out in the last few years! Okay, strap in, here we go:
Captive Prince & Dark Rise by CS Pacat (Captive Prince is a completed triology and Dark Rise will be a trilogy)
Thicker Than Blood by Sera Quim
How to Bite Your Neighbor & Win a Wager by D. N. Bryn
Prince of Sorrows by Kellen Graves (Book 1 of the Rowan Blood series, which currently has 4/8 books out)
A Strange and Stubborn Endurance by Foz Meadows (Book 1 of the completed Tithenai Chronicles duology)

Return to the Pitch: Day 2
Day 2 — Resistance Protocols

At 04:45, Polo-Drone-055 was already awake. Not that sleep was necessary—his neural systems entered maintenance cycles while the body remained perfectly still, muscles subtly pulsing beneath the surface, recalibrating from the intense physical load of Day 1.
Today’s directive was downloaded in golden code: DAY 2: RESISTANCE CONDITIONING – BUILD STRUCTURAL FORTITUDE – ANTICIPATE COLLISION.
The flank was not a safe space. It was a combat zone.
While Day 1 had sharpened his efficiency in movement and delivery, today would be about impact—holding his line under pressure, absorbing momentum, bracing against the charge of fast wingers and crushing tackles. Christian had once relied on speed to escape collisions. 055 was being trained to withstand them.
07:00 — Weighted Drills and Reactive Tension

The gym had been reconfigured overnight. Hydraulic resistance rigs lined the walls. Command-activated belts wound around his chest, waist, and quads. His golden training harness—embossed with 055—locked into place with a hiss and magnetized snap.
The first sequence: lateral resistance pulls.
Strapped at the waist, 055 had to mimic game-speed runs against ever-increasing resistance levels. A voice—calm, synthetic—counted each rep:
“Explosive drive. Break the press. Absorb the shove. Reset.”
Every time he reached peak velocity, the rig jolted back with a counter-force simulating a shoulder barge from a charging attacker. Not once did 055 stumble. His boots held. Core engaged. The old instinct to turn, to dodge—gone.
At resistance level 9, the system noted a micro-shift in his footing: a remnant of Christian’s avoidance reflex.
⚠ COLLISION EVASION TENDENCY DETECTED EXECUTE: FORTITUDE REINFORCEMENT LOOP
He initiated the loop without hesitation.
10:00 — Controlled Contact Combat

Later, two others joined: Jordan and Polo-Drone-016, both midfield specialists. The three formed a training triangle, cycling through contact scrimmage drills. 055 had to shield the ball, receive under pressure, burst past, then reset.
Shoulder-to-shoulder clashes. Elbow nudges. Shove. Pivot. Maintain control.
Where Christian once threw up his hands begging for fouls, 055 powered through contact without emotion. Pain threshold: disabled. Pride: irrelevant.
MOMENTUM CONTROL: 98% BALL RETENTION: OPTIMAL WHISTLE COMPLAINTS: 0

Daniel Penny was acquitted Monday of criminally negligent homicide in the chokehold death of Jordan Neely, a 30-year-oldhomeless man with a history of mental illness whose final moments on a New York City subway train were captured on bystander video that set off weeks of protests and captured national attention.
The decision, on the fifth day of deliberations, came after the jury deadlocked Friday on the more serious charge of manslaughter, leading the judge to dismiss it. Penny faced up to four years in prison.
The anonymous jury, made up of seven women and five men, were told before they began deliberating that they had to come to a unanimous decision on the top charge of manslaughter in the second degree before moving on to consider criminally negligent homicide. But Judge Maxwell Wiley changed that order Friday after jurors twice sent a note saying they could not reach an agreement.
The judge had also instructed jurors to decide whether Penny’s actions caused Neely’s death and, if so, whether he had acted recklessly and in an unjustified manner.
Neely, a former Michael Jackson impersonator, had been shouting and acting erratically when he boarded a subway train in Manhattan on May 1, 2023. He ranted about being hungry and thirsty and said that he wanted to return to jail and didn’t care if he lived or died, witnesses testified. Penny, 26, a former Marine and Long Island native, placed Neely in a chokehold that prosecutors said lasted almost six minutes.
A New York City medical examiner ruled that Neely died from compression to his neck as a result of the chokehold.
Penny’s attorneys told jurors that he stepped in because he believed Neely might attack other passengers and he intended only to restrain him until police arrived, which Penny also told police. They also argued that Neely was not killed by the chokehold and that it was impossible to measure how much pressure Penny had applied.
A forensic pathologist hired by the defense testified that Neely died from a combination of his schizophrenia, synthetic marijuana, sickle cell trait and the struggle from being in Penny’s restraint. But the medical examiner who performed the autopsy on Neely, Dr. Cynthia Harris, told jurors it was her medical opinion “that there are no alternative reasonable explanations” for his death and that those proposed by the defense were “so improbable — that it stands shoulder to shoulder with impossibility.”
During cross-examination, one of Penny’s attorneys, Steven Raiser sought to cast doubt on Harris’ testimony about how she and her colleagues had come to a unanimous decision as to Neely’s cause of death. Raiser suggested that they had failed to consider all the facts before making that determination.
He revisited that claim in his closing argument last week.
“I submit to you there was a rush to judgment, based on something other than medical science,” he told jurors.
The case divided people in New York — and beyond — in some cases along political and racial lines. Neely was Black. Penny is white. Some people viewed Penny as callous and his actions as criminal, while others said he was selfless in his attempt to protect fellow passengers.
The case also spurred debates about safety within the city’s subway system and failures in addressing homelessness and mental illness, both of which Neely had struggled with.Jumaane Williams, a Black Democrat who is New York City’s public advocate, was among those who questioned why police let Penny go after questioning him at a precinct hours after Neely’s killing. New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also a Democrat, said Neely had been “murdered.” Prominent Republicans like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Matt Gaetz praised Penny and promoted a fundraiser for his legal fund, which has raised more than $3 million. His defense team includes Thomas Kenniff, a Republican who ran unsuccessfully for Manhattan District Attorney in 2021. Vickie Paladino, a Republican city councilwoman from Queens, attended last week's closing arguments in support of Penny.
Prosecutors did not dispute that Neely’s actions on the train scared many of the passengers or that he was on synthetic cannabinoids, which were found in his system. In her opening statement, Dafna Yoran, an assistant prosecutor with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, said that Neely had “demanded to be seen” and that despite his not having touched anyone and not having displayed a weapon or threatened to use one, many people in the subway car were frightened of what he might do.
She has said Penny’s “initial intent was even laudable,” but that he was reckless when he continued to choke Neely even after he posed no threat, including after the train doors had opened at the next station and passengers could exit. For some of that time, she said and video showed, two other men helped restrain Neely. One of those men testified that he believed Penny had held the chokehold for too long. At times, she said, he even ignored the pleas of bystanders to let Neely go. In her closing argument, Yoran said that “no one had to die” and that Penny was not justified in his use of physical deadly force.
“You obviously cannot kill someone because they are crazy and ranting and looking menacing,” Yoran told jurors in her closing argument. “No matter what it is that they are saying.”
She also said that Penny “could have easily restrained” Neely “without choking him to death.”
In his closing argument, Raiser prompted jurors to imagine that they were on the train the day Neely boarded “filled with rage and not afraid of any consequences.”
“With you sitting much as you are now in this tightly confined space, looking up at Mr. Neely,” he said. “You have very little room to move and nowhere to run.”
“Danny,” as the defense attorneys referred to Penny throughout the trial, “put his life on the line” and stepped up in the absence of police, Raiser said.
But Yoran challenged the portrayal of Penny as a self-sacrificing and benevolent subway rider. In her opening statement she said that Penny failed to acknowledge Neely’s humanity. She continued that thread in her closing argument, playing video of Penny twice referring to Neely as a “crackhead” in an interview with police and telling jurorsthat he never asked about Neely’s condition.
“There is something else that is glaringly missing from his statement. Any regret. Any remorse. Any self reflection,” she said. She added: “He never expresses any sorrow about the man’s death.”
During deliberations, jurors asked to rewatch bystander videos of Penny restraining Neely, responding officers’ body camera videos and video of Penny’s subsequent interview with two police detectives at a precinct. They also asked to rehear the medical examiner’s testimony about issuing a death certificate before Neely’s full toxicology reports were completed. They also asked for the judge to read back the definitions of recklessness and criminal negligence and to have the definitions in writing.
Penny chose not to testify. During the trial, which began Nov. 1, jurors heard from more than 40 witnesses — subway passengers who witnessed Penny restrain Neely, police officers who responded to the scene, a Marine Corps instructor who taught Penny various chokeholds, the two pathologists, a psychiatric expert and six character witnesses, who included two Marines, Penny’s mother and one of his sisters.
On Wednesday, Neely’s father, Andre Zachery, sued Penny accusing him of negligent contact, assault and battery that caused Neely’s death. The civil suit was filed in New York state’s Supreme Court, a trial-level court in New York state.

Speaker of the House Vote 2025 SHORT VERSION
Yes I swear this is the short version I'm sorry True TLDR Johnson wins but 8 people showed off they could really fuck the party over if they wanted
**JUMP TO 'THE VOTE' IF NO EXPLANATION OF PROCESS IS NEEDED**
U.S. Congress has two groups. Senate (2 reps per state) & the House of Representatives (certain amount of reps by population of state - not exactly balanced as there are caps)
Every two years there are elections for new Senators and Reps (your state rules and terms may vary). Every two years there's a "new" group of Senators and or Reps
Per the constitution - when there is a "new" group of Reps/Senators they have to elect (or reelect) the Speaker of their group (the lead person)
Nothing can happen, not even the elected members getting sworn in as congressmen, until the groups have a leader
Both groups could easily have issues electing a leader but
The Senate has not had much issue
The House in 2023 had the absolute disaster of 15 rounds of voting (the most ever done to approve the speaker)
Many of the reps that had issues were reported to be dissatisfied with the current guy, Mike Johnson,
Johnson was elected to replace McCarthy (guy who had to go through 15 votes) when Gaetz (reelected but not here as he resigned to avoid being outed as a criminal from an internal investigation that was released anyway) moved to revote and he got booted.
Johnson has publicly stated he would not negotiate with far right Republican Representatives
Voting is simple and complicated
There should be 435 members (as of now - there have been less, there could be more if we approve states having more reps)
You only need more than half the votes - even just by ONE VOTE
218 is the current amount of votes necessary to win
More than 217 members of a party is considered the Majority
If people don't vote, aren't there, or vote "Present" the overall number to get elected can drop (2 people not voting/present drop the overall needed by 1)
If the needed drops low enough and the opposing party is all voting for their leader, the other party could win (career suicide and unhelpful to what you want to get done)
The current makeup is 219 Repuplicans and 215 Democrats (we are one short of 435 cause of that Gaetz asshole)
THE VOTE
Unless specified, Republicans voted for Mike Johnson. All Democrats voted for Hakeem Jeffries.
Biggs of Arizona - Did not respond when called
Cloud - Did not respond when called
Clyde - Did not respond when called
Gosar - Did not respond when called
Harris of Maryland - Did not respond when Called
Massey - Voted for Tom Emmer (Republican Whip) **Had outright said he would not vote for Johnson
Norman - Voted for Jim Jordan *This would ensure Johnson lost*
Self - Voted for Byron Donalds
Walz - Did not respond when called
HAD THIS NOT CHANGED - - 6 Not responding would drop the needed votes to 215 - Dems would win for Jeffries with 215 and Johnson at 210.
They call names at the end of those who did not initially vote to ensure the person wasn't just in the bathroom or something.
ALL SIX REPUBLICANS WHO DID NOT RESPOND switched their votes to Johnson when called again (although it sounded like Gosar and Clyde weren't going to)
BECAUSE the six changed their votes to Johnson
The winning number is still 218
neither Jeffries (215 votes) nor Johnson (216 votes) can win
If nothing changes, a second round of voting would have to happen
After the call and recall rounds, they count the votes - aka give people time to come up and ask the talliers to change their vote if they had "voted in error". This means you see people who voted against the leader get swarmed and talked to by other Representatives (Either threatening or offering deals to get the dissenting Rep to switch their vote.)
Massey is unmoved
Norman and Self however talk with Johnson and other reps and ALL LEAVE THE ROOM for some time.
They return to the room, and although all votes are technically in, no one has announced the end of voting or given a final tally.
They allow Norman and Self to change their votes to Johnson
Johnson wins with 218 Votes
Weirdness
It has been alleged that the people who didn't intially vote were doing so on purpose to show they have power
Norman and Self definitely got SOMETHING out of whatever meeting they had - though we do not know what
Seems they learned from 2023 and didn't call the vote over on purpose to try and keep it to one round of voting
TECHNICALLY got the vote in the first round of voting but don't let the Republicans fool you, they still have massive issues with the zealous outliers of their group
#Speaker of the House Vote 2025#Short version#us politics#house of representatives#irl shit#mel accidentally made herself a political reporter
