"The film Stellar is an overwhelming sensory experience in this specific (beautifully designed) bar, at this particular time, listening to the music on the jukebox these two characters have chosen. Loretta Todd might liken this to translating the oral tradition to the screen: 'All these sensual experiences of that moment would help me return to that moment. That’s the genius of the oral tradition. It’s embedded, in song, dance, and ceremony, very rich sensual experiences in which the words are embedded.'"

Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent (prod. Tassie Cameron).
Rogers' very Canadian remake of the durable police procedural spin-off series adds enough Ontario flavour to its familiar "ripped from the headlines" cases of the week. Starring Aden Young and Kathleen Munroe as our TPS detectives, each episode has its own twist to the usual cop show antics with notable locations that refreshingly don't have to stand in for another generic American city. Regarding television formats, L&OT:CI injects some fresh elements from the Canadian justice system to keep the notoriously comfortable cop show setup interesting from week to week.

#MixOfDay #Podcast #Radioshow #LiveDjset Funkier Sounds 5th Birthday - Sam Redmore Guest Mix My little show has turned five! Five years ago, just days before my second child was due to be born, I for some reason decided it was a good time to start a radio show. And so that’s what I did - the show was called Funkier Radio and it wasn’t a real radio show, because I prerecorded it and just put it up on Soundcloud. But now it’s live, on a real radio station and has been renamed Funkier Sounds. Over the years I’ve had some brilliant guests including The Reflex, Michael Gray, Danielle Moore, loads of less known but still brilliant DJs and a whole load of my friends, and for this celebratory episode I brought you another very special guest. My guest was Sam Redmore, a DJ and producer who I’ve loved for a few years now. Someone on the more funk & soul side of the sounds I’m into rather than the house and disco side, Sam was the perfect selector to help me mark the fifth birthday. Sam’s mix is brimming with funky delights - funk and soul originals and reworks, some hip hop stuff, some jazzy stuff, some of his own stuff… a fast moving, funky and really enjoyable mix! Big thanks to Sam, and please show him some internet lovin' - https://ift.tt/ABUC8Dv https://ift.tt/jU0LFpw HOUR 1 TRACKLIST 1 FMAC - Listen To The Wind Blow (V's edit) 2 The Allergies - Every Trick In The Book 3 A Tribe Called Quest - Electric Relaxation 4 Lo Fidelity Allstars - Deep Ellum... "Jasper Man Is Sentenced," Kingston Whig-Standard. July 7, 1943. Page 3. ---- Changing his plea to one of guilty on each of eight charges of committing gross indecency, Carl Beamish, aged 41, of Jasper, who was arrested June 19 was sentenced to three years in Kingston Penitentiary and ordered given 10 strokes of the strap when he appeared before Magistrate Wright in Brockville court yesterday morning. He was sentenced to three years on each of the charges the sentences to run concurrently. He had pleaded not guilty at previous appearances in court.
A charge of selling unlawful articles was also brought against the man. He entered a plea of guilty to this offence and was given another two years concurrent sentence by the magistrate. Confiscation of the goods was ordered by the court.
Hon. H. A. Stewart, K.C., appearing for the accused, presented an appeal for leniency and handed to the magistrate a petition signed by numerous residents of the Jasper district. Crown Attorney H. Atkinson moved for a penitentiary sentence when Provincial Constable Alex MacLeod had concluded his evidence. His attitude was that juveniles 'should be protected' and the magistrate, feeling definite that the man was a menace to the morality of juveniles, as an example and warning to others who might be so inclined, felt a severe penalty was warranted. Beamish left the court room in a broken condition, supported by a relative.
[AL: Beamish, according to his police and prison records, was convicted of gross indecency, a deliberately vague charge in the Criminal Code mostly used to prosecute gay men engaged in sexual activity, and with providing contraceptives for sale - not condoms but likely some kind of abortificant. He was a storekeeper in the small town of Jasper outside of Brockville, and so was likely selling or providing information on safe sex and pornography, almost certainly to younger people. He had no previous criminal record and was single and 41 - it's possible Beamish was gay himself, but this is hard to figure without digging even deeper into court transcripts. He was convict #7369 at Kingston Penitentiary, and worked at the change room. He was whipped twice in 1943 and 1944 as part of his sentence. A model prisoner, he was transferred to the low security Collin's Bay Penitentiary in November 1944, and paroled in mid-1945.]

POOR K.C. HAS HAD A BAD WEEK.
FIRST SHE GOT DOG-WALKED BY PRESIDENT TRUMP AT THE WHITE HOUSE AND NOW THIS.
“CNN’s Kaitlan Collins promotes Luigi Mangione’s legal defense fund after Mangione was on video murdering a man in cold blood”
It’s even suggested Collins should lose her press credentials and access to the White House.
SHE’D BE THE FIRST REPORTER CNN HAS HAD TO FIRE, RIGHT…?

"Three-Year Terms Given Two Men For Theft of 40 Tires," Ottawa Citizen. March 3, 1943. Page 1. --- Up for sentence for a series of break-ins and tire thefts involving more than 40 tires valued at approximately $1,000, Dorilas Corneau [TOP], 19, and Florian Lemieux, 23, both of no address, were given three years in Portsmouth penitentiary, Kingston, by Magistrate Glenn E. Strike.
In passing sentence, MagistrateStrike said the nature of the offences and the manner in which they had been committed showed that they had been carefully planned. They were not the sort of offences which young men sometimes committed "on the spur of the moment," he said, and the accused had stolen articles which could be disposed of at possibly more than their actual worth.
He noted that Corneau had been before the court on at least three previous occasions.
His Worship suggested that the court "may have an opportunity of dealing with the people who bought the tires."
Crown Attorney Raoul Mercier assured the court that a complete investigation into the sale of the stolen tires would be made. ///
"Ottawa Men Given Penitentiary Terms For Theft of Tires," Ottawa Journal. March 3, 1943. Page 1. ---- Dorilas Corneau, 19, and Florian Lemieux, 23, both of no given address, were sentenced to three years in Kingston Penitentiary by Magistrate Strike in police court today, for a series of "black market" rubber thefts. Both were convicted on February 19 on charges of theft involving more than 40 automobile tires valued at upwards of $1,000.
In passing sentence Magistrate Strike said he was dealing with "serious major crimes". "In view of the shortage of rubber this type of offence ceases to be minor offence", he said. "It becomes a major crime they stole articles that could be disposed of for more than their actual worth."
Lionel Choquette, defence counsel, said that if the demand for rubber were not so great and certain people were not so willing to buy the tires, the temptation would not be so great to steal them.
Magistrate Strike said while this was true, the court may have an opportunity of dealing with persons who buy these tires.
Crown Attorney Raoul Mercier, K.C., assured the magistrate that "a full investigation has been made regarding persons who bought these tires".
[AL: Corneau was 20, unemployed, from Ottawa, French Canadian, and had served three terms in jail and one in the reformatory. He was convict #7243 at Kingston Penitentiary and worked in the mail bags. He was transferred June 1943 to the lower security Collin's Bay Penitentiary, becoming inmate #2075, and released July 1945. Lemieux was 23, a truck driver but unemployed for two months prior to his crime, and also a French Canadian from Ottawa. He had no previous criminal record. He was convict #7242 at Kingston Penitentiary and worked in the mail bags. He was transferred July 1943 to the lower security Collin's Bay Penitentiary, becoming inmate #2080, and released on parole in late 1944.]
