Nintendo rumored to be collaborating with Google on virtual reality device.

What's the mousecon rumors?
theres a rumor that there's a sensor on the "rail" side of the joycon controller that will let you use it like a computer mouse. (basically rail facing down sliding on desk)
i personally think that if they did that they would have included buttons on the back of the joycon (similar to the psvita and steamdeck)
it also doesnt make much sense since it seems like the usecases would be narrow. it would be nicer than using the touch screen though so

btw this is the only switch game thats flat out incompatible. just because of the vr goggles. so when they say "most" switch 1 games work they mean "all of them except this one that we never met the initial demand for and never restocked" so for most users all games will play on it
i assumed all of labo wouldnt work because of the different joycon sizes but apparently joycon 1 still work on switch 2. thats better than what i expected

I've been seeing a lot of misinformation about the Switch 2 on my dash today and I'm not going to comment about prices or my opinion or anything but I just feel like clarifying a few things so that people have all the CORRECT info to judge whether the console and games are worth buying to them.
1. Game Key Cards- Physical Games are Just Downloads Now!
Yes, Nintendo has announced Game Key Cards, functioning how all PS5 discs do- as a key to unlock a digital download. However I have seen many people claiming all physical games are like this- this is not the case. Only 2 games confirmed for Switch 2 are Key Cards so far: Street Fighter 6 and Bravely Default. So only select games will use this. Not only that, but this also appeared in some form on Switch 1 already- you could buy physical games that contained... Nothing. You'd open your case and find a digital code to download the game. This was most commonly used on large 3rd party games with huge download sizes, or free games with large paid DLC such as Fortnite. So, all in all, this is another form for a rarely used already existing precedent, currently only on 2 3rd party games.
2. You have to pay to use your Nintendo Switch Games on Switch 2
I can see where this has come from as the talk of backwards compatibility and Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games used a lot of terms about a lot of different things. But all in all, you can put any* switch 1 game in your switch 2 and just play it. For free. The paid content is for specific games that feature additional upgrades- whether it be BotW and TotK with making the game run much smoother with its frame rate, or games such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land adding completely new additional content. While every backwards compatible game will take advantage of the Switch 2's higher power, the paid Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games go back in and update the games to natively perform better, which just running a game on a system with higher resolution without changing the code wouldn't do. Also, you don't need to pay to play BotW on Switch 2 without the Switch 2 Edition upgrade, you can play it on Switch 2 without the added frame rate boost.
*Not every game will run on Switch 2, this is true! But they have released the list of what isn't compatible, and the only games fully incompatible are games like Labo, which rely on features of the switch 1 that are not present in Switch 2. And since you can still use the original joycons with switch 2, you can still play most of them! The literally only game you can't play is Labo Vr Kit, because the system itself is a different size and will not fit into the toycon kit.
Again, not saying my opinions about prices or these features or what they're charging for what- this isn't an opinion post!!!! Just clearing up some stuff I've seen on my dash.

hi cam! what are your thoughts on Captain Toad Treasure Tracker (For the Nintendo Switch version specifically) having 3 stages retrofitted for Nintendo LABO VR but not the entire game preventing people from discovering the joys of motion sickness.
Hi Sinjon! Love this question! That's a really fun fact! Why did they do that!
My first thought is "my god Labo is underutilized," perhaps deservedly so. I know it was never meant to be a whole honkin' Oculus competitor, but I feel like I don't ever hear about anything made for it, and the stuff I do hear about seems super half-baked.
But also... yeah, I can't see Captain Toad benefitting much from Labo VR. I bet the diorama look is kinda cool in the 3D format, the level design might even be able to take advantage of the added depth. Otherwise, it sounds gimmicky. Maybe it's that I'm woefully unacquainted with VR—I've only really played Beat Saber, and my gut response to any experience that isn't first-person is "...why?" The format is definitely in its infancy, and I haven't paid enough attention to what devs are doing with it beyond Worse ports of existing games (Fallout 4 VR and especially Breath of the Wild VR come to mind).

I have this running theory about the next big Nintendo console. I think they are going to expand on the switch model a little bit more with a few peripherals that allow new methods of play.
They’re going to keep docked and handheld mode of course but I think that the technology has progressed enough since the virtual boy that it’s time they try again with VR. I think they’ll make a headset you can pop your switch into. They already started experimenting with this with LABO, which wouldn’t surprise me if that wasn’t a sort of “market test.” Nintendo isn’t going to make a Legend of Zelda or a Mario game as their VR release title, they are the champions of creating safe, comfortable environments when they’re first introducing a new concept (think of the “playground” they gave us to explore moving in three dimensions with super Mario 64), and too much movement in their first VR title is going to make people sick. You know what’s the most still and comfortable game Nintendo has ever made and have for some reason neglected for twenty years?
Nintendogs.
I think they’re going to give us VR, and coddle our scared little brains afraid of change by going “here’s a puppy!” It’s a game where you basically stand perfectly still and interact with puppies, what could be more basic and soothing? Except for one portion, and that’s taking your Nintendogs on a walk. How are they going to manage that you ask? The headset comes with a camera, Nintendo DS style. Augmented Reality. They already started experimenting with that with the Mario Kart Live Home Circuit! We’re all going to walk around out neighborhoods in our big stupid headsets, joy-con leashes in our hand, and it’s going to be Pokémon Go 2.0. There may even be a multiplayer functionality where you can see and interact with other people’s Nintendogs you meet out on walks.
After we’ve all gotten used to this new tech, they’re going to start releasing bigger titles for VR/AR. They’ll start with Pokémon I believe, because again, it’s a MASSIVE title that has declined in popularity over the years and they’ll want to revitalize it by letting you interact with your favorite Pokémon IN THE REAL WORLD?? You can battle other trainers on walks! You can go out and catch Pokémon in your neighborhood! It’s gonna be what what we actually wanted Pokémon Go to be like!
I have no doubt if Nintendo did this that we’d all start foaming at the mouth and bankrupt ourselves trying to get our hands on it. It would pull virtual reality out of this current cultural space where it’s both really fucking advanced and interesting, and also subsequently associated with crypto bros and mark fucking zuckerberg. They’d make VR games your grandma would feel comfortable playing. What else do you think they’d do with this technology?

still annoys me thinking about nintendo labo and how the first 3 kits they did didnt sell very well, and then nintendo was like "ok i guess we won't make too much of this vr one" and then since it was vr there was so much demand for it that it sold out on like day 1, and then they just... never restocked it. in the 6 years since
and they probably never will now since the oled model is a slightly different size and the switch 2 is coming. actually i just tried to look it up and saw that they privated the announcement video and took down the whole labo website. they really gave up on it wow

Despite wide-ranging backwards compatibility with Nintendo’s previous consoles, we can’t say we had high hopes for this one. As we suspected, Nintendo has now confirmed that its Labo VR Kit won’t work on the newly unveiled Nintendo Switch 2. Release #AR #VR #Metaverse

Teknologi dan Kreativitas: Bagaimana Nintendo Membentuk Masa Depan Gaming"
Tumblr media
4. Game Dunia Terbuka dan Eksperimen Desain dalam The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
