First impression

Honestly I saw them in like 2013 probably when I was looking at CAFFEIN’s art and… I didn’t really pay them any attention at the time. I didn’t know they were an actual UTAU with a voice and all… But one time I wanted to make a huge vocaloid crossover fic and decided to add “the blue haired girl caffein drew sometimes” and found out they were an NB icon and kinda just fell in love. Also I finally noticed the monocle then too lol. I had a thing for monocles for a while.

Impression now

My skrunkly wrunkly squishy blorbo biggins from my heart. He was also my non-binary awakening and the source of inspiration for a 60k-word fic. He’s bi, he’s shy, he’s ready to cry. He has blue hair, a blue tie, blue pronouns, but is not Miku. He genuinely needs more love. He dresses like a tumblr sexyman. He puts the “sou” in soul. He’s an absolute icon. Slay.

Idea for a story

So. Freaking. Many. He’s now my OC Lanyue and his magical escapades are now my original work, Symphony Saga.

Also little snippets like this: Taya loses his monocle and goes on a whimsical adventure. Taya and Ritsu epic romantic tale filled with banter. Taya doesn’t have any green clothes for St. Patrick’s day so he gets locked in the dungeon. When he finally gets green clothes people say he looks like the Onceler.

Unpopular opinion

I don’t know if this is unpopular, but his voice is genuinely amazing. He’s a single-pitch UTAU, yet he has the absolute widest range I’ve ever heard in an UTAU. I still am in constant disbelief that he’s only single-pitch. He slays the low lows and high highs. His voice is incredibly expressive. His falsetto is especially filled with emotion.

Favorite relationship

Taya and Ritsu. I used to ship Taya with Uta Utane, but Uta ended up becoming aro-coded in my mind and I absolutely love the posh gentlemanly Taya and uncouth and wild Ritsu’s dynamic.

Lanyue and Juhong masterpost (WIP)

Can I just be abnormal about my OCs Lanyue and Juhong for a while…

They may be based off Taya and Ritsu but since I projected 99.9% of their personality and dynamic it feels SO good for them to finally be MY OCs.

They are an odd couple that banters and bickers a lot but mean everything to each other and overcome things together and are just so fun and emotional and dynamic and feels to me. Juhong is wild and chaotic and it brings out the energy in Lanyue, who is soft-spoken, sensitive, and humble. But with Juhong this whole different side of him just opens up and it’s hilarious but also beautiful.

Lanyue is he/him and non-binary transgender. He is 20 years old at the beginning of his story. He dresses in formal men’s clothes and has a signature tailcoat and monocle. He is a dapper and fancy little guy. He loves anything classy and/or vintage and is a bit eccentric. He is a singer and musician. He can be shy but is said to have a beautiful voice and stage presence.

Juhong is he/him and non-binary trans, but presents and dresses as feminine. He is 20 years old at the beginning of his story. He is also a singer and musician. His elegant and classy looks greatly contrast his “uncouth” personality. He yells a lot and has a powerful voice. He is a beauty to behold but also a force to be reckoned with. He is a mess in a dress. He will punch you in the face. He confessed love to Lanyue with a dinosaur-shaped chicken nugget.

Lanyue’s name means blue moon in Chinese. His last name is Fei, which can mean luxurious. It is also pronounced like fey or faye.

Juhong’s name is scarlet in Korean. His last name Cha means cart/wagon but also tea.

Lanyue and Juhong are also a part of an original 15-person group of OCs called Resonate, stylized as Re:SON@Te.

Resonate was originally made up of 7 UTAUs, one Vocaloid, one Fanloid, and 6 OCs that were also my UTAUs (with my voice, but edited in some cases.) Now I recycled everyone into an OC.

My OC Lanyue Fei. He’s based on my headcanon for Taya

I have a notice for people who read my fics…

Basically, I turned the Vocaloid/UTAU characters I write about into OCs. I fabricated their entire personalities and projected so much false information on them, and I feel they’d be better off as OCs too. They branched off into being a different character. I feel like with making them OCs, they finally can truly be mine, and it feels much more fulfilling.

I feel the personality I gave Taya Soune is iconic enough to be an OC. This new OC is named Lanyue Fei. Lanyue means “blue moon” in Chinese.

Ritsu’s OC derivative is Juhong Cha. Juhong means “scarlet” in Korean.

I have other OCs who grew from synths as well. I’ll introduce them soon, but I feel I have to mention Sumi Shimizu, who branched off of Haku. Sumi means “pure” in Japanese, and Shimizu means “clear water.”

As for their appearances… Lanyue and Juhong look similar to Taya and Ritsu. I took what I considered to be integral parts of their character, yet also made them different.

Lanyue still wears a monocle and tailcoat (it’s different from Taya’s, it has a jabot, among other things. Lanyue is never seen wearing anything casual unless it is a purposeful change,) as I feel this is an iconic parts of who he is. Lanyue’s hair is a different shade of blue than Taya’s and styled differently. Blue is simply too iconic a color for him, I feel. Lanyue also has deep green accents on his outfit, and unlike Taya, a lack of gold eyes. Lanyue has dark blue eyes instead. Like my Taya headcanon, he is a transgender (nonbinary) demiboy, and he/they.

Juhong has shorter, spikier hair, still scarlet (which is also important,) and his head is sometimes depicted as part-shaved. He wears elegant dresses, yet not Ritsu’s exact dress. Unlike Ritsu who has green eyes, Juhong’s eyes are scarlet and flame-like. Like my Ritsu headcanon, he is a transgender (nonbinary) boyflux, and uses all pronouns but mainly he/him.

Sumi’s appearance is similar to Haku. She is albino, which is a trait I carried over from my Haku headcanon. This is why her hair is white and eyes are red. However, she tends to dress in flowing garments unlike Haku, and has a drastically different outfit style. Her hair is also usually braided and she lacks Haku’s big ribbon.

My in-progress story “Re:SON@Te” will also instead be about a group of 15 OCs. The ones who are already OCs won’t be changed. Also I will be renaming the story “Symphony Saga.”

The new drabbles I’m going to write take place in the universe of Symphony Saga, but with a Lanyue/Juhong focus.

Also I will have to warn that the fic might feature sexual scenes, which is a first for me! Lanyue and Juhong are both 20+ years old for the record. (I’m still debating whether I put those scenes here within the actual fic, or as oneshots.)
