Lexus LM: Nice but what about the price? What is it? Back in the old days people thought the world was flat. They thought that if you sailed far enough you would eventually fall off the edge. Lexus engineers seem to think the same thing, because the front doors of its new LM people mover won’t stay open on a slope. Then there’s the heavy, power-operated, second-row seats which won’t move forward and stay forward to access to the third row when the vehicle is also parked on […] https://cars4starters.com.au/lexus-lm-nice-but-what-about-the-price/?feed_id=33649&_unique_id=6684ce7faf2bc

2025 Nissan Armada Full-Size 8-Seat V8 SUV

The Nissan Armada is the company’s flagship full-size, body-on-frame, three-row SUV. The Japanese company is discontinuing production of the Titan full-size pickup after 2024, but according to a report from the Nissan Model website, the 2025 Nissan Armada suggests that it will feature a new model with Nissan apparently showing off the new Armada to its dealers, and we might see the new vehicle soon.
Nissan senior vice president Ivan Espinosa spoke with CarExpert Australia at the Japan Mobility Show 2023. He pointed out that the new Armada is based on Toyota’s J300 Land Cruiser, which is offered in America as the Lexus LX 600. Espinosa said the new SUV is “much better than Land Cruiser”.
The 2025 Nissan Armada will replace its V8 with a turbo V6.
The new fleet, like the Sequoia, will replace its 5.6-liter V8 with a third-generation engine. According to Automotive News, Nissan will replace the Armada’s 400-horsepower engine with a more powerful and efficient twin-turbocharged V6. The engine will be mated to a new nine-speed automatic transmission.
The 2025 fleet will be more modern, stylish and technologically advanced.
A Nissan salesman described the new Armada as “Range Rover-like.” The dealer has a vested interest in creating excitement for the new Fleet. However, even if it doesn’t reach the level of one of America’s best-selling SUVs, we might expect significant aesthetic improvements.
Automotive News reports that the new Armada will be larger and more durable, with redesigned headlights and taillights. According to the source, the Armada will have updated interior finishing and a larger screen. We think the Armada inside also gets a more modern and square look. Espinosa told Car Expert that infotainment will be a “huge change.”

ALL-NEW LEXUS GX MAKES WORLD PREMIERE
Lexus continues to introduce pioneering driving and technology advances to its diverse portfolio of luxury vehicles with the reveal of the new-generation GX premium off-road SUV.
Sparking the spirit of outdoor adventure, the all-new seven-seat GX is positioned between the RX and LX in the Lexus SUV line-up and offers a broad mix of performance and occupant carrying flexibility.
GX Chief Engineer Koji Tsukasaki said the all-new GX allows urban families the opportunity to expand their active outdoor lifestyles more than ever before.
"The aim of the new GX is to create a Lexus off-roader that symbolises the central core of authentic Lexus off-roading. It is not just a model change, but a game changer that turns a new page for Lexus.
"It has been thoroughly developed for driving on all kinds of terrains, from winding roads to rocky, dirt roads all over the world. However, you don't have to push the limits all the time with this vehicle," Mr. Tsukasaki said.
First introduced to the North American market in 2002, the GX exudes visual toughness worthy of an adventure-focused SUV, with ideal off-roading proportions and a refined yet rugged design.
From the front, a subtle, frameless iteration of the signature Lexus spindle body is expressed, with a black grille and an upturned lower bumper section.
The LED head lamp design closely resembles its larger LX sibling, framed by L-shaped daytime running lights. Below the headlamps sit grille openings extending downwards to accommodate the sub-radiator required for improved cooling.
The commanding bonnet is designed with a concave center that not only accentuates the Lexus spindle body but also improves forward visibility.
From the side, the GX's off-roading intent is clear, with a high bonnet line, A-pillars pulled more upright, a vertically oriented tailgate and a 2,850mm wheelbase, matching the LX1
Like other Lexus SUVs, a single LED light strip runs across the width of the tailgate, accompanied by 'LEXUS' lettering and compact combination tail lamps. The tailgate also features an opening for the upper glass compartment, allowing easy access to the cargo area.
The GX interior offers a modern and comfortable cabin based on the Lexus Tazuna concept of human-centered design; with steering wheel switches seamlessly paired with the head-up display, and a clean, horizontal/vertical dashboard layout enhancing the driver's perception of vehicle posture off road.
The 14-inch center display uses a combination of touchscreen and buttons for the multimedia system, with particular emphasis given to the size, shape, layout and display information of the switches for an intuitive user experience.2
The GX's center console is designed with off-roading in mind, with driving and drivetrain switches placed on the driver's side.
The flexible second-row seat configuration allows customers to choose between a bench seat or captain's chairs, while the third row brings seven-seat flexibility and when not required can be stowed neatly into the floor with an electric folding mechanism.
The all-new GX is underpinned by the same GA-F ladder-frame architecture underpinning the larger LX; providing rugged strength, improved on-and off-road driving and compatibility with the latest safety and off-road technologies.
The new GX suspension system uses a high-mount double-wishbone arrangement at the front, with engineers fine-tuning the coil spring rate while increasing the caster trail and minimising the king pin offset to promote excellent stability during straight-line driving, cornering and braking.
At the rear, a four-link rigid axle with lateral control arms is used, developed to offer greater wheel articulation off road.
Adaptive variable suspension improves on-road ride comfort and handling stability, with both front and rear suspension using shock absorbers featuring independent telescopic valves and friction control modules.
Thanks to its packaging, the 26-degree approach angle has been increased by five degrees compared to the previous GX while reducing front overhang by 20mm.
To complement the adventure-focused lifestyles of GX customers, Lexus offers a special five-seat Overtrail variant which adopts exclusive functional and design features essential for a rugged off-road vehicle.
More than just a series of visual upgrades, the Overtrail introduces the E-KDSS suspension system for the first time on a Lexus, offering independent control of the front and rear electric stabilisers to further improve wheel articulation and grip in off-road conditions.
Multi-Terrain Select controls the system's drive control and suspension to offer six drive modes (Auto, Dirt, Sand, Mud, Deep Snow and Rock) for improved performance on all surfaces.
Crawl control offers five low-speed settings allowing drivers to traverse uneven terrain without operating the accelerator or brakes, while Downhill Assist Control automatically and independently adjusts the hydraulic pressure of each wheel brake when descending steep slopes.
A multi-terrain monitor uses cameras mounted on the front, sides and rear to display high-definition images of the vehicle's surroundings including underneath the vehicle floor, helping the driver accurately position the wheels and avoid unforeseen obstacles.
A full suite of Lexus Safety System + active safety technologies is included on the GX, which can help provide maximum protection for occupants and other road users.
Globally, the new GX will be available with the choice of two powertrains, starting with a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, providing strong towing ability and performance that furthers the Lexus Driving Signature.
The first ever hybrid powertrain for a body-on-frame Lexus vehicle will also be offered in the form of a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol hybrid and newly developed eight-speed automatic transmission.
Both powertrains employ a full-time all-wheel drive set-up with a low-range transfer case and locking centre differential.
Lexus Australia continues to assess models that may be suitable for the needs of local customers, with the GX no exception. A decision on GX will be made at a later stage.

Volkswagen's New ID Buzz EV Van Already Has a Slide-In Camper Unit
New Post has been published on https://medianwire.com/volkswagens-new-id-buzz-ev-van-already-has-a-slide-in-camper-unit/
Volkswagen's New ID Buzz EV Van Already Has a Slide-In Camper Unit

Ququq is based in Germany and actually makes five different versions of its camperbox modules for many types of European SUVs and vans, as well as some Japanese and American makes. These modules include a camper bed, kitchen, and storage in a single, typically slide-in unit that give owners a place to cook—including a gas stove—and to sleep while camping without breaking the bank with a full camper conversion.
Essentially a box containing the kitchen items forms the basis for a 3.9-inch-thick foam folding mattress that is between 43.3 and 52.75 inches wide depending on which version you get and folds out to 76.77 inches long when fully deployed. The best part is that you don’t need to rip out the vehicle’s rear interior to make it work. If you have a vehicle that has a third row seat (all U.S.-spec ID Buzzes will), it needs to be able to fold flat or be removed, but the second row doesn’t have to. For vehicles that have fold flat or removable second row seats, the bed’s forward end can be supported by chains or straps attached to either the grab handles or the upper seat belt anchors, or by its integrated folding legs on the bed. For vehicles with non-removable, but foldable second row seats that don’t fold completely flat with the cargo floor, you can use foam blocks to support the forward section on the folded-flat seat backs. Using those two handles on each side of the box, a set of lashing straps hold the box in place inside the vehicle while a smaller strap holds the folded bed down while in transit.
When everything is set up, you have a fully capable camper with a cooking stove; a place to store food, water and other items; and a small table to work with that pop out from below the bed.
The water storage is made for those rectangular water jugs with an integrated tap, and the bin below it can hold a small container to let you clean your dishes and silverware. The cooking stove is on a slide-out cabinet that has a wind protector and another place to store those dishes, cookware, and silverware. Push everything back in when you’re finished cooking, and the ID Buzz is good to go on an electric excursion without having to break down an extensive camp.
Done camping generally for a time, or need to use either the cargo hold or those third-row seats? You and a friend can remove the 140- to 195-pound assembly (depending on which version you get, but the BusBox is typically the heaviest of Ququq’s camping modules) out of your vehicle and store it away until you’re ready to use it again.
Ququq has already shown off the BusBox 4, which is made specifically for the upcoming ID Buzz, but that’s not the only version that Ququq has. These BusBoxes are made to work with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Metris vans, the Ram ProMaster, and the Ford Transit for European vans built for sale here in the U.S. They also offer the Flat Box camping modules for the Land Rover Discovery 3 and 4, the Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Sienna, Chrysler Pacifica, Lexus GX, and Honda Odyssey; the Kombi Box for the Ford Transit Connect; the D Box for the Defender 110 up until 2018; and the G Box for the 1979-2018 Mercedes G-Class, but only for the long-wheelbase version. Despite being built in Germany, these modules are sold in the U.S. by RRE, a company in Nevada that specializes in Overland Vehicle and Conversion Van parts and accessories.
While we know that there are many DIY conversions out there that might do this same basic task for very little cash using wood, it looks like the Ququq camper modules are a perfect solution for those who who just want a plug-and-play way to take their van camping. The modules start at $3,990 while the BusBox tops out at $4,490 for the version 2 that includes a pedestal to allow the bed to be fully folded while the rear seats are folded down.
We asked VW if the BusBox for the ID Buzz would be available at U.S. dealerships and for how much, but unfortunately, it hasn’t disclosed the ifs or whens by saying, “We are looking at offering a kitchen/bed module in our market and looking to leverage an established manufacturer. However, it’s too soon to say what the final features, pricing or sales channels would be.” In the meantime, we can’t wait to see if the classic Westfalia pop-top treatment makes a comeback for the ID Buzz. But such a creation would surely cost silly money, which is all the more reason to get excited for the Ququq BusBox.

Keeping Up Appearances
Bucky Barnes x Reader
Chapter 13
Summary: When an old friend comes back into your life you struggle to maintain the lies you've told. Bucky Barnes has no idea what he's gotten into by agreeing to be your fake boyfriend, but you have no idea what to do about the very real feelings you have for him.
Just the epilogue to be posted from here! Thank you all who have waited so patiently for these final chapters.
Bucky had called it neutral ground and at the time you agreed, but seeing light strain to shine through the dirty windows of the pool hall only revealed how dated the furniture was and how dirty the ceiling was with cigarette smoke. Pepper wouldn't be caught dead in this place, but when you sent her the address she made no attempt to change the venue to something higher end. The fact that she even agreed to come to Brooklyn had shocked you. You could only reason that your texts puzzled her enough to brave the trip.
Pepper I really need to talk to you.
She tried calling within five minutes but you declined the call, too much of a coward to plan this out over the phone.
Not a phone call kind of talk. Can you meet me tomorrow?
The clock above the door was broken but a quick glance at your phone told you the hour was near. A text from Pepper timestamped five minutes ago made you swallow nervously.
Almost there
The place was nearly empty, only two tables occupied by a group of older men wearing matching club jackets. They smoked and sipped beers while making the occasional exclamation at a bad shot but they left you and Bucky alone.
"I set up a table for us in the corner."
"It's clean?"
Bucky nodded, looking just as worried as you for the arrival of your final guest.
"Dirty martini." Bucky gave you a confused look.
"She likes dirty martinis." You clarified, biting your lip as you fussed with your hands, pulling at your fingers until the tendons burned.
"What do you want?"
The thought of consuming anything made your throat burn.
"Just water."
"Okay, doll. Go sit down."
Bucky kissed your forehead, holding your face in his hands delicately.
"It's going to be okay."
The chair squeaked loudly under your weight and the table wobbled if you put any weight on it. You took a few coasters littering the tables around you and wedged them under the wobbly table leg.
"Oh thank god, I thought I gave the wrong address to Happy."
Pepper's voice came from directly behind you, loud and lively. Your head bashed against the bottom of the table as you lurched up to see her. Taking deep breaths you clutched at the tender spot and righted yourself, slowly this time.
"Nope, this is the right place."
Pepper shot you a smile and walked around the table, taking a seat silently in the chair next to you. You placed her clutch on the table and let her eyes roam the venue, lighting up as she looked toward the bar.
"Oh, Bucky's here! Are you two back together? Is this why you wanted to talk to me? Oh my god are you pregnant?"
The last question came out in a whispering hiss, something Pepper only did when she thought she was getting some good gossip. You almost wished that was the news you were sharing, Pepper would be more pleased you got knocked up than what she was about to learn.
"No! Not pregnant but Bucky and I...it's complicated."
In the spirit of truth you knew you should also admit to Pepper that you and Bucky were a ruse, but would it really matter, or would it be the final nail in the coffin of your friendship?
Bucky was walking back to the table, a martini glass in one hand and two mugs, held by the handles, in the other. He distributed the drinks and planted a kiss of greeting on Pepper's cheek before sitting down. He looked nervous now and you reached for his hand. He accepted your comfort and offered his own by swiping his thumb across the back of your hand.
"You're drinking water…"
"Peps I'm not pregnant!"
You quirked a brow in disbelief as she took a sip from her glass. If she saw the uneasiness on yours and Bucky's faces she didn't let it affect her. A content smile sat on her flawless face as she awaited more information. Bucky gave your hand a firm squeeze that was on the verge of being painful, but it was the push you needed to get started.
"Pepper, I haven't been completely honest with you."
Her smile faltered, but only for a second before it was back, less wide but still there pairing with her wide, open stare.
"About what?"
With a quick glance at Bucky you continued.
"A lot has happened since you left."
Each word was pushed from your mouth by your tongue, the weight of them seeming so much heavier against your lips than in your head. Pepper waited, the only indication of her impatience was the way she tapped her pinky finger against the table.
"I'm poor."
Pepper blinked twice quickly, then shook her head slightly as if her ears were fighting against hearing the words.
"Broke? How broke?"
You let out an airy, self deprecating chuckle, pushing your fingers against the side of your neck.
"All my credit cards are maxed out and I've taken on a second job recently, but I'm still having trouble."
Her mouth opened and closed, face scrunched up as she tried to find the words to say. Bucky gave your hand a quick squeeze.
"Okay." The word was drawn out as Pepper's brain worked through her next thought.
"Are you asking for money?"
"No!"
Your shout startled a few men across the hall, the one bent over the pool table cursing loudly as he missed his shot. You cleared your throat and spoke at a more reasonable level.
"No, I am telling you this because it goes bigger than just being...poor."
You glanced up, into Pepper's eyes, as you said the last word. Poor. It was a word you used to spit out of your mouths with disgust before cackling at those to whom the word applied. It fell from your lips now with no venom, just a sad reality. Pepper's gaze was intently on you, trying to find something in your eyes that you couldn't quite identify. Her mouth was set into a hard line of concentration but she didn't look disgusted by you like you had imagined.
"My father co-owned some supermarkets upstate."
This information was more for Bucky than Pepper, but it felt better to explain the whole story, or maybe you were just stalling.
"The markets were modest, we lived comfortably, but right before high school things changed. I remember my dad taking us out to dinner more and we moved to a bigger house and my older brother got a brand new Lexus for his birthday."
All this Pepper knew, whether she remembered was a different story. You couldn't look at her or Bucky so instead you watched the condensation gathering on the outside of your mug, choosing a heavy drop as a focal point.
"My dad said they had made some executive changes that made the chain more profitable and as a young kid I didn't question it. I had my car, my clothes, and two rooms; one that I used as a closet."
"I remember." Pepper practically whispered and when you gathered the courage to look up at her she was looking down at her own drink with a small smile half hidden by the hand supporting her chin.
"When it was time to pick a college I knew money wasn't a problem and I just wanted to stay with my friends so I followed you. Everything was great until a few months before we were supposed to travel the world. The money just...stopped showing up in my account."
Your mouth was dry and your hand was shaking when you picked up your mug and took a large gulp. Bucky's thumb was rubbing against your hand again. The story was getting easier to tell and soon it would be all out there. Whatever came after that you still weren't prepared for.
"For months my parents told me everything was fine, that there was just an issue with the bank. I figured, as long as my account was back up by the time we left then who cares?"
"But you couldn't come with me."
It was a fact. Pepper's voice was even and clear. She didn't sound like she was mad, about missing out on the trip or your current conversation.
"My father was arrested for embezzlement and money laundering three days before you left. I lost contact with my family all together a few days later."
"How did I miss this?"
Pepper had finally shifted from her casual lean against the table. She leaned back, arms crossed, her tongue poking out as her eyes darted back and forth across the table. Your laugh was hollow as you shrugged one shoulder.
"I like to think I hid it pretty well."
You didn't want to look at Bucky, just watching Pepper's reaction was enough to make you want to crawl into your bed and not come out for a few years. His hand was still entangled with yours and you took that as a sign he didn't hate you just yet, but that didn't mean he wouldn't.
"You were gone. I wasn't going out anymore. Police were starting to show up at my apartment and calling me during classes. I dropped out after I couldn't pay for fall semester. The bank took all the money in my account, they took my car, they took anything that could repay what my father took but it wasn't enough.
"I was called to the trial and had to take a bus to get there. I sat in the third row and watched my father be sentenced to ten years in prison."
Pepper's hand was grabbing at the one not already held by Bucky. Sympathy poured from her and it made you sick.
"Oh, honey, I am so sorry. But you couldn't help it."
"It's my fault."
Pepper looked like she wanted to counter that but maybe it was the hardness in your eyes that made her hold her tongue.
"Me and my big mouth. My dad co-owned the stores with a partner who was more hands off, but his son went to school was us. I thought that he was cute and we went out a few times but he questioned by designer clothes and nice car. He ghosted me a few weeks before the investigation."
"You don't know it was your fault."
Bucky spoke up for the first time and your heart started to beat so hard it almost burst from your chest. When you tried to speak again you could only let out a painful sob and had to down the rest of your water before you spoke again.
"He was a witness. During my father's trial. He had photos of my things, bank statements I had laying around, he had enough evidence to convince his father to call the police and press charges. Brock Rumlow swore in and winked at me and I knew I had done this to my family."
Your hands were empty, you had pulled them away to hide your tears. Every cell in your body shook with guilt. You hadn't spoken to your parents or brother since the trial and every say since then you had worked to keep yourself afloat. Every day since then you had lied and hid your reality from your best friend, but nothing was hidden from her anymore, besides your true relationship with Bucky.
Your fingers were stained by your running makeup, you knew you looked terrible and your voice would be strained, but you needed to tell her about you and Bucky. You needed to her to know.
Except when you pulled your hands away to tell her Pepper was gone, only a dirty martini left in her wake.

2019’s Top Rides: Part 3/Buick Regal GS, Subaru Ascent and Golf R
By Michael Hozjan
Buick Regal GS AWD: Buick gets it right

At 12, I wanted to be a car designer. Fate however had different plans for me. With an eye for automotive design, I grew up loving Buicks; from the ’57 Special to the ’59 Invicta, with the ’64 Wildcat stealing my heart time and again. Cadillacs took a close second, Fords were ok but I found Chevs too feminine. Buicks, were masculine with broad shouldered front fenders and creased lines, personifying the designing cues of GM greats, Harley Earl and Bill Mitchell.
Then came the Riviera. One snowy December afternoon as I headed to my post office, there on St. Lawrence Boulevard, with six inches of snow on the ground sat a ’65 Riviera. My heart skipped several beats and I must have studied its lines for what seemed like an eternity.
Well into the ‘70s there were some noteworthy designs that came out of Buick’s design studios however, the last four decades have been anything but exciting. That has all changed with the launch of the Regal GS – the sexiest Buick to come out of Detroit in, well the last four decades.
The Grand Sport designation is nothing new to the Buick line up, having been associated with ‘70s era muscle cars but this is the first time that it has been used in a European sports sedan context. The stylish GS goes up against some well established rivals like the Acura TLX, Lexus ES, BMW 3 series and the like, a tough field to say the least. The Regal GS is more than just good looks, it’s a bona fide sports sedan. In fact a rebadged, German built, Opel Insignia, so the GS starts with the right genes. European engineered handling makes it the best tarmac gripping Buick ever.

Red Brembo brake calipers immediately tell everyone that this is not your typical Buick.
While different drive options/trim levels are available elsewhere around the globe, we Canucks get only one trim/drive option- also the most desirable one - the all-wheel-drive version motivated by the 310 horsepower DOHC, 3.6L V6 with variable valve timing punching out 282 lb-ft of torque through a 9-speed automatic.

Entry price is $44,045, my tester came with the Buick Experience Package ($3,495) that included the moonroof, a Bose premium 8-speaker sound system, wireless charging, an 8” touch screen, HD radio, LED leveling headlights, The Driver Confidence Package (yes you read that right) at $1,995 includes adaptive cruise, forward collision alert with automatic braking, lane keep assist, front pedestrian braking and heads up display. The Ebony Twilight Metallic paint was a premium option at $495.

The all-wheel-drive gets a torque vectoring rear axle, which only improves traction in slippery conditions and makes the Buick eat up the corners. Buick has also given us three driving modes to choose from, Touring, Sport and GS
Inside you’ve got one color choice, black. The supportive Recaros have a massage feature as well as being heated/cooled. Both driver’s and passenger seats have 14 adjustments to suit your body, including adjustable bolsters. Following with the German sport sedan traits, it includes a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Rear seat passengers get ample legroom, but headroom is tight for taller occupants. With 30.cu.ft of space under the hatch with the rear seats up, with over 60 cu.ft with the rear seats folded, it betters many compact crossovers!
Is it perfect?
Non-functional air intakes in the front valance are mickey-mouse and a step backwards. Why not leave them open and help cool the brakes? No spare tire but a useless tire fix kit –that’ll help when you have a blow out or bend a wheel on Quebec’s pot holes. On the comical side, the audio system had mixed up the Cirius station numbers it’s 60s on 6 and not 660s on six….and the same could be said for 50s on 5 not 550s on 5, as well as 70s, 80s and 90s.
You can go through the gears manually with the console mounted shifter but paddle shifters would have been a nice touch to compliment the smooth 9-speed automatic.

Will the GS steal buyers away from BMW? I hardly doubt it but it does give of us a formidable option to keep our performance dollars with domestic manufacturers, and the GS buyer has nothing to be apologetic for.

Subaru Ascent: If at first you don’t succeed…

If you thought that Subaru already had a large SUV you’re right. The magic word here being had. The B9 Tribeca, later shortened to just Tribeca debuted in 2005 to, lets just say a less than stellar sales, and by 2014 had moved into the automotive history books of what once was.
It takes guts to admit that you were wrong, and it takes even big cojones to come back with a similar sized vehicle. Truth be told the SUV market has also changed over the last decade with SUVs growing increasingly larger, just like the population. Subaru appears to have been ahead of its time back in 2005 when 3-row SUV’s didn’t proliferate our roads, and minivans still reigned supreme for getting the platoon to school. But times have changed and so the new Ascent is the company’s answer to the latest trend.

The Ascent is also Subaru’s largest vehicle to date, with 142 mm longer wheelbase and 134 mm longer in length than the Tribeca, so yes passenger comfort has been greatly increased. The midsize SUV is built on the company’s Global Platform, a chassis that is easily adaptable; serving as the basis for everything from their Impreza and Crosstrek to the Ascent.

Available in four trim levels – Convenience, Touring, Limited and Premier - with the entry level 8-passenger Convenience starting at a meager $36,695. Regardless of trim, there’s a new 2.4L direct-injected, turbocharged boxer four cylinder dolling out 260 horses and 277 lb-ft of torque through the High-torque Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission).

Talk to anyone who’s ever driven a Subie in less than ideal conditions and they’ll swear by the symmetrical full-time all-wheel-drive system. A new feature, X-Mode, pushes the traction envelope even further; at the push of a button, it monitors and controls four different vehicle dynamics, including engine, transmission, torque splitting and braking.

There’s a lot of standard driver-assistance technology in each Ascent without having to step up to trim levels, Items like automated emergency braking and lane-keeping assist through the company’s EyeSight system. The base model gets a 6.5 inch infotainment screen while upper trim buyers will see an 8 inch screen. GPS however is only available in the two higher end trims (Limited and Premier). Both Touring and Limited are available in either seven or eight passenger configurations with captain’s chairs taking up the second row. My tester, the Premier trim comes only with the second row captains chairs. While all trims get heated front buckets it’s only the two higher trims that pamper their second row passengers with heated outboard seats. The third row looks a lot more inviting than some of it’s competitors but it’s still on the tight side with limited leg room. Still bear in mind this is a mid-size seven passenger and the seats are padded and comfortable to keep the small fry happy for longer drives. Oh and a pair of third-row USB charging ports become available in the Limited trim and are in addition to the standard two you’ll find in the front and second rows.

Rear cover blind and tow loop are stowed neatly under the cargo bay’s floor, the latter an option on some pricier suvs
.
Whether you’re out in the boonies or negotiating city streets, the Ascent doesn’t feel like a large bulky SUV. With above average handling and a minimum of body roll for a three-row SUV, Subaru’s use of the boxer engine and its advantageous low center of gravity immediately become apparent. It’s stable, with a soft luxurious ride and is generally quiet during normal highway cruising. But it does get loud when pushed hard.

Is it perfect?
The drone of the CVT does get annoying but once you get passed that, the Ascent is typically Subaru; it does everything what it’s supposed to and does it well. I averaged 9.8L/100 km which is unprecedented in a 7-passenger sport ute. It may not be overly luxurious but you get what you pay for. I know my Subaru driving friends will all be looking at the Ascent when the time comes to turn in their current drives, and that alone will keep this big Subaru around for a long time to come.

Volkswagen Golf R: You’ll want one
If you’ve missed my installment of the Rabbit GTI, I urge you to scroll down the page and have a read.

Now take the GTI and turn it up a notch, or three. The formula for the Golf R is very simple; take one German built spacious hatchback that already has solid, tight handling, and add gobbs of turbocharged horses to a 2.0L inline four cylinder. How many ponies? Two eighty-eight to be exact – enough to propel you well past the posted speed limit in less time than it takes you to say posted speed limit. Now stir in all-wheel drive to put all that power to the ground. Slam it to the ground for added handling. Dress it up with killer 19” wheels.

Choose between the 6-speed manual available for $42,495 or the 7-speed dual clutch automatic with Tiptronic for $43,895. Now go have the most fun you can with your clothes on.

Doesn’t look like it but there’s nearly 300 horses in there

Quad exhaust tips tell you this is no ordinary Golf
The Golf R is everything you want in a performance sedan and then some. It makes no sense in a country with posted speed limits, but then neither do Porches, Ferraris and the like.

CW au: The Perrault Mansion
Think the Xavier Institute For Gifted Youngsters but no classrooms crossed with Burns’ Manor . There are six floors. Each bedroom is basically a miniature apartment
Basement: mixture of staff quarters, wine cellars, gamesrooms, and entertainment centres for all. Head of staff is Bartholomew (Diablo) and Mal and Carlos helped in the kitchen as a way of earning an allowance when they were kids.
Ground floor: Double doors that open up into a large foyer to the left is the sitting room. Straight ahead is the to elevators (one for staff one for the family). Next to the family elevator is the staircase. Down a few steps next to the staff elevator is the kitchen that looks like it’s from every single tv restaurant in existence. Very high tech. At the back of the house is the two libraries. Separated by the indoor pool room (which houses an Olympic size pool several jacuzzis and a steam room). Library one is for nonfiction. Library two is for fiction. Each stretch up several floors
First floor. Wrap around landing as all the landings are. Carlos’s room. Soundproofed. Black walks with a white diamond pattern. Four poster bed. Hundreds of picture of jay above the headboard. By mid season two they’re taken down. Red velvet curtain on the bed pilar. He’s sort of created a nest of junk food and video games cause there’s a wood panel that turns into a giant flatscreen tv. En-suite bathroom. Jacuzzi bath. Other rooms include but aren’t limited too walk-in closet with its own changing rooms and rows and rows of hats.
Second floor. Baljaygilonnie and devies rooms. Baljaygilonnie is much the same as Carlos but has a purple green and sand colour scheme. Devie’s is smaller and not as grand mostly because the original purpose was a guest room but then they moved in to help with Mal after Harry’s attack.
Third floor. Carlos and Mal’s mothers room. Same set up as her children. All black and crome. Her office is in an adjoining room to the left with its own bathroom. Several hundred taxidermist birds (mostly ravens and crows with the odd rainforest toucan here and there) decorate the room

Chapter Ten All the right moves
Sweat dripped down the back of Sakura’s neck. It clung to her skin and made her shirt stick to her body. She breathed hard, trying to catch her breath.
Kakashi didn’t give her that opportunity. He came at her, fists swinging and adrenaline pumping. Sakura threw her hands up in front of her face. Just in time to block his swing. Her wrist stung at the contact, but she ignored it, throwing her own blow.
He had always been faster. His military training giving him an edge she didn't have. He grabbed her wrist, twisting her arm painfully before he swept her legs out from under her. Her back hit the mat hard, knocking the breath from her lungs.
Kakashi glared down at her. “What did I tell you?”
His irritation stirred her own. Pushing herself back up onto her feet, she inhaled a shaky breath, “I'm trying.”
“Not hard enough,” he returned. “Get your hands up and pay attention, or I'll do it again.”
A glare settled over her features as she fell back into her defensive stance. They traded swings. He cuffed her across the cheek but she knocked him on the chin. Back and forth, they danced across the matted floor, alternating between throwing punches and wrestling on the ground.
Kakashi did everything he could to pin her, wrenching her arms behind her back, using his body weight to trap her against the floor. Sakura in turn used all the training he had every taught her to free herself. Pressure points, supported elbows against sensitive muscles, using her slight frame to twist under his guard. They trained until Sakura’s arms were stiff and her shoulders ached.
Kakashi was first to relax, after he had failed to pin her for the third time. “Much better. You’re getting faster,” he told her.
A faint smile passed her lips, even as she felt bruises already forming under her skin. She followed Kakashi towards the wall where they left their belongings. She reached for her water bottle first, chugging a quarter of it before she patted her skin dry with a towel. Beside her, Kakashi rummaged through his duffel bag.
Sakura took another drink as she eyed the other gym members. Most were working out in pairs. On the far side, there was a row of punching bags. Only one was in use now. This early in the morning, the gym was still mostly empty, the more aggressive boys still sleeping. By noon, Sakura was sure it would be full.
Two men had stepped onto the floor mat behind Sakura and Kakashi. She observed them as she waited for her heart to slow back to normal.
“What’re you working on now?” Kakashi asked after he had finished putting his things away.
Sakura glanced down at him before she dropped herself onto the bench so their conversation wouldn't carry. "I'm collecting more arms. Hashirama and Tobirama need to regroup after their confrontation with Akatsuki."
"Do you know what Hashirama is planning next?"
"No, but that's not my primary concern right now," Sakura said. When Kakashi arched his brow, she elaborated, "I'm more interested in Hashirama's relationship with Madara."
“Because of the CIA.”
“That and because I still don’t know the agreement between them,” she told him. “Hashirama has a deal with Madara. One that does not include sharing territories.”
“You think Hashirama is providing Madara protection?” Kakashi asked.
“I don’t know,” she frowned. “It’s been four years since Madara turned traitor. The CIA isn’t exactly known for their forgiveness. Especially since he sold information to the Chinese and Russians.”
Kakashi arched his brow, mildly amazed. "Where did you learn that?"
“Shikamaru,” Sakura said, smiling faintly. The more she worked with the ex-CIA operative, the more useful she was finding him. He was just as brilliant as he was lazy.
“So if Hashirama is providing Madara protection from the government, what does he get in return?” Kakashi asked.
"I don't know. That's what I want answered."
They both looked up when a particularly hard hit echoed through the room. One of the men on the mat took a hard fall. His wheezing breaths reached her ears. He recovered surprisingly quickly to twist out from under his partner's hold, their positions suddenly flipping.
She and Kakashi spectated the sparring match a little longer before they collected their things and left. Outside, she handed her water bottle to Kakashi. He accepted it wordlessly, his eyes lingering on the passersby. A habit he had picked up in the military.
“Are you still being tailed?” Kakashi asked at last.
Sakura smiled. “Of course.”
“Do you want me to get rid of them?”
“No,” she said, pulling on her sweatshirt. She zipped it up only halfway, low enough to let the air cool her still-heated skin. “Not yet anyway. They’re harmless for now.”
Kakashi didn’t look so convinced but he didn’t argue. Instead, he jerked his head towards the corner. “That car has been sitting there since we got here.”
“I know,” she told him, her smile still in place. “Don’t worry. I’ll handle it.”
That expression of his didn’t fade but again he didn’t say anything. Simply shouldered his bag and shot her a look that was clearly a warning not to press her luck before he wandered down the sidewalk.
Sakura waited until he was out of sight before she too left. She went the opposite direction the car was facing, pretending to occupy herself on her phone. She was hardly surprised when it pulled away from the curb and did a u-turn.
The black vehicle merged in with the other slow-moving traffic seamlessly. Sakura wouldn’t have even noticed it if not for the fact it was a shiny new Lexus. The same one that had been keeping her company all week.
Without looking back, Sakura entered a nearby convenience store. She wandered into the back towards the case with refrigerated water. Only to slip out the back door. It opened into a parking lot with a half dozen stalls. Only two were occupied. Sakura waited in the shadows out of sight until she heard that familiar V8 engine.
The instant the car came around the corner, she went for it. Ripping open the door, Sakura slipped into the driver's lap, releasing the chair adjustment under the seat so she could fit. In one, smooth motion, she shifted the car into park and slammed the door closed behind her, leaving the pair tightly wedged in the seat made for one.
Itachi stared at her. A long moment of silence passed before he sighed. "Was this really necessary?"
Smiling, Sakura leaned forward, her knees pressed tightly against his lean hips in the confined space. Her hands skimmed the front of his dark jacket, her fingers playing with the zipper of his breast pocket. This close, she could smell the spicy scent of his cologne. "You obviously wanted my attention. Now, you have it."
A frown tightened his expression before it relaxed. His face turning carefully blank as he settled his hands on either side of her, careful not to touch her more than necessary. "You need to accept my offer," he told her.
A laugh bubbled out of her mouth. "You're rather persistent, aren't you? Tell me, what is it about Madara that makes you so desperate?" she asked, leaning closer. If only to see if she could draw a reaction out of him.
Itachi didn’t answer. But there was something behind his eyes that made her smile fade. Her fingers stilled against his zipper.
“It’s more than just his capture your company is worried about,” she guessed.
His lack of answer was answer enough.
“What do you know?” she asked.
“Only that Madara is planning something,” Itachi told her, his voice low and troubled. “Which is why we need your help.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Madara and I aren’t exactly friendly.”
“We don’t need you to be friendly. Just close enough to know what his next moves are.”
"The last time I got that close, Izuna tried to strangle me," Sakura countered darkly. "So your plan is going to have to be a little more specific than that."
Itachi's gaze drifted down to the column of her throat, as if searching for the bruises that had faded months ago. When he raised his eyes back to hers, his face was surprisingly open. Something she couldn't quite name reflected back at her. Something a little desperate, a little impatient.
When he blinked, that look was gone. Itachi reached into his jacket.
Out of habit, Sakura grabbed his forearm, using their close proximity to pin his arm to his chest with her body weight. Her instincts screaming it was a gun. To her surprise, Itachi just looked at her, waiting for her grasp to loosen minutely before he withdrew a business card. It was white and utterly blank. Except for a single phone number etched in black ink.
When she made no move to accept it, he slipped the paper into the pocket of her hoodie.
“Help us and we will return the favor. Guns, protection...Akatsuki,” he said knowingly. Then he quickly added, like he knew she was going to feign ignorance, “You burnt down one of their supplier’s ports a few months ago.”
Sakura couldn't help the small lift in the corner of her mouth. It seemed Agent Uchiha was more than just his handsome face.
Shifting in his lap, she settled more comfortably against him, her hands still resting on his chest. Feeling the solid muscle beneath her palms. The soft, easy inhale and exhale of his breath. "And what could you possibly know about Akatsuki?" she whispered, as if they were a couple sharing an intimate moment.
His hands shifted to her hips, less as a means of dominance and more of somewhere to put them in the tight space. “Agree and I'll give you everything,” he murmured in reply.
Sakura held his gaze. The moment stretching on for one too many seconds for it to be teasing. Only the soft rumble of the engine filling the space between them. Then she leaned away with a shrug. "If only I actually cared about them."
Itachi's eyes searched her face, as if trying to determine if she was just toying with him again or not. When he found only real honesty, he stared at her with genuine curiosity. "Then what do you care about?"
She pretended to think a moment. "Tequila."
Impatience flickered behind Itachi's eyes so quick she would have missed it had she blinked. It seemed her games were finally beginning to get under his skin. Good. Sakura didn't bother to hide her smirk. Hopefully this time, Itachi would get the hint and leave her alone.
"Really, Itachi, we should stop meeting like this," she said. Humor colored her tone but there was an underlying seriousness. Because in all honesty, the whole watching her back everywhere she went thing was getting a little old.
Sakura reached for the door handle then, but Itachi's hands tightened on her waist before she could exit the car.
"I know you do not trust me," Itachi murmured, leaning forward as if they were somewhere they could be overheard. "And if I had it my way, I would not choose you for this operation. But Madara is dangerous. Not only to me but to you and everyone else as well. He holds loyalty to no one. Not even his own family. Just consider that while you're out there running your guns, Sakura. Because if there is one thing I know you care about, it is your business."
She met his unwavering gaze but didn't offer him a response. Simply waited for him to release her before she slipped out of the car. With no reason left to linger, Itachi drove off, disappearing back around the corner and into the city in his smooth, smooth car.
Sakura didn’t think she was still being followed but she took the back streets and winding park paths back to her studio apartment. There, she showered and grabbed a quick bite to eat while her hair dried. She checked her phone messages over her bowl of cereal, trying to think of anything but her conversation with Itachi.
For a little while, her texts kept her busy. But as she munched on her second bowl, her mind couldn’t help but wander a little. Even with her position, Itachi had admitted he didn’t wanted her help. The CIA must really be desperate to send Itachi to her not once but twice. Her arrest in Tel Aviv must have been a test of her abilities. Or to gauge how easily they could turn her.
Chewing slowly, Sakura glanced towards the corner of her room where she had tossed her hoodie, Itachi’s card still in the pocket. She considered reading the number. Considered ripping it up and throwing it out.
In the end, Sakura did neither. She left it untouched as she dried her hair and swiped on mascara. In her closet, she grabbed a business suit, sharp and professional, and completed the outfit with a pair of heels. The kind that drew attention with every step.
With Hashirama’s car sitting at the bottom of the river, Sakura called for a ride. An expensive car service drove her across town. The well-dressed driver dropped her just outside the bamboo gates of what Sakura could only call a mansion, judging by the multiple peaks she could see above the fence line. The guards at the gate let Sakura in at her name. They patted her down and searched her clutch before they radioed for the owner.
As she waited, Sakura studied the way the water sparkled off the fountain. She wasn’t left alone long.
“Tsunade.”
Sakura turned towards the speaker, a wide smile on her face. “Neji, it’s been too long.”
He wasn’t a very tall man but he was certainly handsome. Especially dressed in a suit. His features were distinctly Japanese but his accent had faded long ago to be replaced with smooth, clean English.
With a friendly smile, Neji gestured for her to follow him inside. “I hope New York is treating you well.”
“My cities always treat me well,” she told him good-naturedly.
A secret smile passed his lips. She wondered if he was remembering the time she had helped him in Kobe with a small yakuza war. Back before either of them were of the legal drinking age in Japan. Not that anyone ever carded them in the bars they hung out in.
Neji led her further into his large house. Staff stood on every corner, silent statues until they were summoned. The house itself was heavily influenced in traditional Asian culture. Every room they passed had Japanese furnishings and artwork. Even the shoji doors were decorated with fierce tigers and peaceful koi fish.
Sakura eyed them appreciatively until they finally reached the end of the hall and their destination. Neji paused before the only solid wood door. He turned the knob and pushed the door open. Inside was a large office. There were multiple computers and monitors. Some were for security purposes. Others for business.
A young woman looked up upon their entrance. She eyed Sakura, silently sizing her up just as Sakura did to her. Only more discreetly.
“Meet my cousin, Hinata,” Neji introduced. “Hinata, this is is my contact, Tsunade.”
Sakura inclined her head in greeting while Hinata smiled politely.
“Hinata has been helping me cover my connections in Japan while I’ve been here,” Neji explained. “She can help you get whatever you need.”
This time Sakura’s smile was warmer. “I have guns overseas, but I need help transporting them,” she told Hinata. “And I have enough money to make the effort well worth your interest.”
xx
Two hours later, Sakura left the Hyuuga compound. It would take a couple of weeks but Hinata would be able to help her transport the weapons Sakura needed. It was something Sakura could pay some low nobodies to do, but with the threat of Akatsuki still in Egypt, working through Neji gave her some security. Which meant Sakura had time to focus on other things.
Like checking in on Naruto to see how her current shipments were doing. He had been texting her updates periodically and so far everything had been running smoothly. But she never liked to leave her clients unchecked for too long.
Pausing on the sidewalk just outside the bamboo gates surrounding the property, Sakura pulled out her phone. She was just about to search for her last conversation with Naruto when he phone suddenly rang.
The number was unsaved but she recognized it as Kakashi’s. “Hey, what’s up?” she answered.
“I thought you said you were handling your tail,” Kakashi told her sternly.
Frowning, Sakura glanced around the high-end neighborhood. There were half a dozen cars parked on the street but none appeared to be occupied, except for one. She recognized the nondescript, grey Honda Kakashi liked to cruise around in.
“Ten o’clock,” he said. “Dark blue Mazda.”
Following his directions, Sakura peeked at the car out of the corner of her eyes. Sure enough, there was a vehicle exactly as he had described. At first, she saw no movement inside the car. But then a shadow caught her notice. She was being watched.
“Is that one of your CIA buddies?” Kakashi asked.
Keeping her expression in check, Sakura turned and began walking down the street towards where Kakashi was waiting. Halfway down the block, the Mazda began to follow. "No, it's not."
For the last few weeks, she had become familiar with Shisui and Itachi’s cars - hell, a few hours ago she had been inside one. Neither of them looked like that. Which meant only one thing.
She had another tail.
to be continued...
