belly buttons are not a major factor, no. because they have no reference for the outside world or even each other, the different departments on the severed floor come up with insane lore for each other. one such theory is that the Macro Data Refinement team nurse their young in pouches on their bellies and that, when threatened, the young larvae jump out of said pouch and attack the enemy. it is important to me that you know that 1) this is no way true as they are all human and there are no babies on the severed floor, and 2) this is barely referenced and is essentially a one-off joke in season 1 and a call back joke in season 2
