Hello! I was wondering if you could share your thoughts on this:

So the Party is doing their adventure, as usual, to solve their tadpole problem. Gale has already explained everything to Tav, yet they do not share something for fear of betrayal, especially from Gale. Elminster arrives and gives Gale Mystra's order, however before he leaves he warns him to keep an eye on Tav and to eliminate them the moment they start to be "dangerous" or "suspicious".

The mission goes on, Gale doesn't detonate and the Party reaches Baldur's Gate. Elminster comes again to tell him that he's expected by Mystra in the temple and that she may have found a way to give him forgiveness without the use of the orb.

Long story short: Mystra demands Gale to kill Tav because they too have found something that they shouldn't (not as bad as Gale's one but still enough to piss her off, also in this case Tav is a sorcerer)

Obviously Gale would refuse, even if they were just friends, but do you think that moment would be the drop that breaks the dam to the point that he decides to no longer worship Mystra? Of course Gale loves magic. But to know that the goddess of all magic demands something so important to him after everything she has done? I don't know, if I were him I would probably go "you know what? Fuck you Mystra, I've had enough of your absurdly crazy demands, I won't kill the love of my life/the only person that has helped me get on my feet again. I don't care that you're scared of Tav becoming the next Karsus like you did to me. After I give you the Crown I'll make sure to stay as far away from you as I humanly can and warn everyone of who you really are!"

I don't know.... I think that would be pretty dope of him (especially if he discards his earing after the visit, even more hot in my opinion)

Anon, I feel the need to quote Gale himself:

😂 I have been put on the spot! Not because of your ask about Gale’s response—which I think you and I are of a similar mind on—but because I am rather unfamiliar with the mechanics of DND and the Weave. So I apologize if I mess up or state anything incorrectly regarding the ‘rules’ of magic use!

The thing about Gale is this: He values life and prefers to avoid conflict whenever possible. Yes, he has killed and can kill with magic quite effectively and will do so whenever needed—but he prefers not to. One of the quickest ways to earn his approval early in the game is to avoid unnecessary bloodshed during confrontations. And he gets very angry and upset if, in the Grove, Nettie tries to poison Tav—because if he had been in Tav’s place, it would have resulted in the orb exploding and the devastating loss of many innocent lives.

So let’s start with the friend scenario: I do agree completely that Gale would refuse to kill Tav, and that he would be angry and frankly shocked—moreso than when Mystra demanded his own sacrifice.

Gale’s guilt and shame over his ‘folly’ with the orb, his lack of self-worth, plus his sense of loyalty to Mystra and the Weave, made it so that when he received the order to self-sacrifice he initially responded with sad acceptance, rather than anger. Plus, he knew he would be saving countless lives by doing so.

…but if the order has been that he cause the death of his friend? That he essentially murder his friend? A friend that saved his life? He would 100% outright reject it, and be appalled as well.

I think his anger would be equivalent to how he reacts to Mystra in the Stormshore Tabernacle meeting where he is gunning for the crown: He admonishes her, he raises his voice at her, he is scornful. I don’t think he would have a shred of respect left for her, goddess or no. But I’m not sure if he would give up magic entirely as a result.

From what I’ve seen in the game, if I understand correctly, Gale (or any magic user…?) can be at odds with Mystra and can still achieve magic, as she’s just the ‘conduit’ for the Weave and cannot decide on who does or does not use it. So while he would not ‘worship’ her any longer, he would still allow magic in his life.

But if Tav was his beloved and he was asked to kill them?

I think Gale would be so completely repulsed he might actually give up magic entirely.

This is a man who, in Act 1, explains his relationship to magic as this:

But then, once he knows Tav loves him as much as he loves them, spends the rest of the game

telling them

how much more important

they are to him.

And so I do think, to your point Anon, this could actually be something that would break him and sever his relationship with magic entirely.

Where we differ slightly is that I can’t see Gale going on a verbal rampage and saying “fuck you.” Full disclosure: this definitely veers into my own person hc territory, but I imagine Gale says “fuck you” VERY RARELY, if at all. He does swear a few times in the game, and he absolutely can destroy someone verbally, but I feel that he tends to go the clever/sarcastic route or just straight honest anger without devolving into extremely harsh swearing. Instead, in this instance, I think he would be so repulsed and horrified by Mystra’s request and the thought of betraying Tav that he would actually be at a loss for words.

All I think he would be able to utter in that moment—he, the always talkative, overly-loquacious, extremely chatty wizard—is “Never.”

And I think the absolute revulsion in his eyes would say the rest.

Now, the timing of all this is significant, because it would be in Act 3 and Gale would know that he needs to use his magic abilities to help defeat the Netherbrain. So regarding the earring, if it has no effect on his magic use, I think it would be out of his ear and crushed under his foot immediately.

If, however, it is his ‘magic focus’ (as has been theorized) and he needs it to cast magic, then I think it would stay—even though he would hate it—until the end of the game. And then it would be tossed into the Chionthar along with that goddamn crown, which Gale would deliberately not be returning to Mystra, nor would he be collecting for himself. I believe in this chain of events, Gale would be removing himself completely from all things related to the divine. Because:

so yadda yadda yadda demons in iran based on their demonology. in pre islamic iran demons weren’t created but emerged as corruptions of ahura mazda‘s creations and the divine elements were twisted into evil counterparts. each demon embodies a specific mortal failing (one would showcase anger, one would showcase greed, etc.) and they are similar to abrahamic fallen angels but zoroastrian demons are more intrinsically tied to natural and moral decay

amongst the demons there’s a "subsection" called daevas who are not technically demons but were once indo iranian deities but were demonized as followers of falsehood (in the gathas, the oldest zorastrian text, they are not yet the evil creatures they will become, although, according to some scholarly interpretations, the texts do indicate that they should be rejected) and then labeled as demons and because this became the belief it changed how the system worked and thus i am thinking

tabari does not mention any being akin to demons preceding the creation of angels and jinn, bal'ami's redition of tarikh al-tabari also mentions divs created prior to the angels and jinn. according to bal'ami, the div were manifest (ashkar) and evident (zaher) to the people until the time of the great flood. afterthat, they vanished from the sights of people.

it's also worth noting that early persian translations of the quran translated jinns as div. this was problematic insofar as that div refers to irrevocably evil forces, while the term jinn is morally ambiguous. as such, the term jinn was also translated as pari, if regarded as befitting. and this goes into the topic of how what a group of people believe for a prolonged time can change how a system actually works in zoroastrian theology because of the mistranslations that caused a change in what they thought was true.

it also brings in the concept of zoroastrianism and islam in the picture. the concepts of hell and paradise for both are very similar, but there are obviously distinct differences that can cause a very interesting hierarchy and issues regarding the hell of iran.

and due to shams being part of the daeva that were alive when they were still worshipped, she is also viewed differently by the newer daevas due to the difference between the original daevas growing up in their culture and the newer ones only living through the traditions the daeva keep alive

and because there's the hierarchy, they're not always "physically" trapped in hell, but they will always belong there. and if a hunter were to look at them, they would sense that they are "demons", because even if their glamour can stay on for longer, the mask will fall off unless there is a willingness to see the difference

It will take some time though, I don’t know how long but I won’t do it without your permission. Aside from that, here’s the Drabble, I hope you have a good day/night, take care ^^:

The cry of grief

Zeus circles around the shoreline below him, thunder clapping with each flap of his wings. He eyes down his target, a lone mortal watching as his ship sail away. Did they leave him to die? So much for a loyal crew, but they have good preservation.

The king of the gods can’t help but wonder on how to punish the fallen king. He could kill his crew right in front of him, but that seemed too easy and too light of a punishment for the mortal who slew one of Helios’ cattle. Truthfully, the god of the Sun would be the one giving out the punishment but according to him, something felt… Wrong. Dangerous even.

It was ultimately curiosity that drew Zeus in, wishing to see what about the pathetic man struck fear into Helios but even miles above in the sky, he could feel it. A simmering power, threatening to boil over and combust. Something unnatural that twists and snaps the law of the lands that paint the world, too weak to identify yet terrifyingly powerful enough to sense.

He has to look into this.

With a swoop downwards that no bird would survive doing, Zeus’s body becomes engulfed in lightning and struck down right in front of the king of Ithaca, inches away. His smile was wide, his presence dominating yet his eyes hide his true thoughts, veiled to assess the situation until the time comes to strike.

“Pride is a damsel in distress.” He started, watching as the king’s head hung low, body trembling. Though it is not of fear or shame he had noted in his mind before continuing. “Hiding away where only I can undress her. Try as she can not to confess-“

Zeus blinked, his mind slow to register the blooming pain on his cheek. Did that mortal just-

He looked down and finally met the king’s eyes, full of anger, guilt and sorrow as though he had been deceived by someone he held most dear. Heavy tears rolled down his face, blending with the rainfall as the mortal hissed, ready to strike once again, “Shut up..! JUST SHUT UP YOU LIAR!!”

“Liar?!” Zeus repeated in offense, his hair raised through his fury at the accusation. “Have you gone mad since your encounter with Poseidon?!”

“Of course you won’t know… Of course..” The mortal muttered, a few broken laughs of disbelief slip away from his mouth. “What did I expect? Not even you could stop this! Why did I believe you?!”

Zeus held back a retort, his body crackling with electricity in a vain attempt to expel his anger. He would almost call this situation pitiful, a king driven mad during the tragedies to return home, believing something the god of the skies had never claimed. However, there was clearly something the mad mortal knew that he didn’t, things don’t add up and Zeus would not be satisfied with letting that be. Plus, if someone was perhaps impersonating king of Olympus himself, oh that won’t do.

“Tell me, Odysseus… What was it that ‘I’ had claimed?” Zeus questioned, taking a step closer. He caught the man’s wrist with ease when he tried to slap him again, staring down at the crying mortal before him.

“What does it matter? You would not remember this…” Odysseus hissed, his pupils glistening with silver, the power inside him threatening to erupt. “Just like before, and even now… Eventually you’ll forget all of this.. you and everyone else won’t remember what will happen. Only I- I’m the only one who— damnit! Why did I call you a liar, when you aren’t even to blame?”

He sobbed, silver streaks split open around his face like the cracks found in old statues on the ends of their use. Those cracks travel around where his tears went down, extending downwards to his neck and free arm. The sand shifts in the violent winds, flowers wilt and grass grows simultaneously at different speeds. To Zeus’ horror, he finally recognised who this power really belonged to. “How did you-“

He summons a bolt of lightning to strike, but it fizzled away before it could even harm him. Odysseus jerks away, too lost in his grief to notice the danger that had latched onto him.

“Curse me, curse my heart that still loves.” Odysseus choked out, broken and defeated as he raised his sword to his heart. Zeus wants to reach out, to stop whatever he’s doing and cease his plans but his body would not respond, left unmovable even with the king of god’s best efforts. Odysseus locks eyes with him again, and it finally hit Zeus that there never was any pride to undress and find. Laid bare before him was pure grief; chaotic, erratic and mournful, calling for someone who is no longer there.

“I’m sorry… I don’t know what I’m even doing.. Perhaps I am going mad, but it certainly wasn’t because of Poseidon.” Odysseus laughed, his smile wobbly as the tip of the blade starts to cut through his clothes. His voice cracks with anguish, only scraping the surface of the true depths to his plight, “I can’t do this anymore Zeus… I’m so tired… I’m sorry, you’re not a liar… I just- I missed the Zeus that I loved. And, he can’t come back…”

“What?…” Zeus could only stare, puzzled and confused as Odysseus gave him a look, one full of unrequited love and lamentation that had struggled to crawl out from the chaotic storm of his emotions. “Goodnight Zeus… And goodbye.”

The last thing Zeus heard was the sound of a clock coming to a halt, the world becoming silent as the grieving king plunged his sword through his heart.

The next time the king of the gods woke up, he continued on his day as though nothing was different. His confrontation with Odysseus, his promise to free him from his cage, all lost to the hands of time with only the king left to mourn the memories of what no longer had occured.

So it's a castel, and it's a castel for /monsters/. They don't need to use the bathroom unless it's for grooming, and that's it. They wouldn't need to put a bunch of extras around like you would so people aren't running across a large building trying not to soil themselves. Any master/extra luxurious bedroom would have a personal bathroom attatch (so Nightmare), but otherwise, if there's just a living quarters area, probably just one, maybe two to share.

And now I'm imagining Killer and Horror coming back from a mission and Killer swiping the bathroom to clean up. Horror very grumpily starts cleaning off whatever blood/dust/dirt/gunk off he can in like the kitchen sink before it has the chase to dry. Or Killer sneaking into Nightmare's room just to soak in the ultra fancey big as hell tub to bubble bath for three hours just to annoy Nightmare

Yeah that feels about right, although @pigeonstab has really convinced me into imagining less of a castle castle and more of a victorian mansion vibe, so maybe there would be like two bathrooms just depending on how big it is. (I've never been in a big fancy house that I can remember so I could be wrong, also monster society has overall less bathrooms so y'know).

But pffffffff on the one hand I don't know if Horror would clean off in the kitchen sink because like, that's where the food stuff goes and he cares about that, but also he is a sans so maybe the laziness overrides any of that and he would. Alternatively he might just give Killer a generous 10 mins before he kicks the door in and throws him out lol

I feel like Killer in a bathtub would be a terrible mix because like, what if his eye goop just keeps dripping into the water until it's all black and overflows everywhere? And by what if I mean when because you know he's getting comfy in there and not noticing until it's dire lol Nightmare would ban him
