Here's something I saw today at a Mexican pharmacy today. If you live in Mexico, you are aware of Dr. Simi. The mascot of this drug store. There's been toys and dolls of this guy thrown around and fan modded over the years in concerts or given as gifts to visiting actors in Mexico. Knowing how to take advantage of the public, Farmacias Similares has made this doll to cross promote the new Superman movie. What do you think of it?

Rockhampton's The Capricornian, 19 September 1929
Shortly before last Christmas a friend heard me voicing my admiration for Hugos "Les Miserables," and, knowing I did not possess a copy, made a mental note— for a Christmas present. How I gloated when I saw the title! And how I groaned when I found it was a film edition, and realized what that meant! The gift was made in complete ignorance of any difference, and I value the spirit of it. But I never could bring myself to read it right through. It surely is an act of sacrilege to have stripped the story of this master writer of all that gorgeous word clothing and set it forth thus — bare and graceless. To have robbed the characters of their dignity, to have changed even their very speech, to have cut and mutilated the very plot, and then put on the market as "Les Miserables," by Victor Hugo! Why, it does not even hint at Hugo's grand thoughts, his matchless expression. And so it is with scores of other famous works, put on the market in these film editions: they are eagerly pounced on by those who do not care whether they are well read or not, so long as they appear well read. And from these they pick up a smattering that carries them along. But many a would-be student of the classics is misled by them too. In all ignorance of what film edition means, they think they are making the acquaintance of a famed work. It's not even a bowing acquaintance.
