"The majority of high-tech patent lawsuits are brought by patent trolls—companies that exist not to provide products or services, but primarily have a business using patents to threaten others’ work. Some politicians are proposing to make that bad situation worse. ...
The Patent Eligibility Restoration Act, S. 2140, (PERA), sponsored by Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Chris Coons (D-DE) would be a huge gift to patent trolls, a few tech firms that aggressively license patents, and patent lawyers. For everyone else, it will be a huge loss. That’s why we’re opposing it, and asking our supporters to speak out as well.
Patent trolling is still a huge, multi-billion dollar problem that’s especially painful for small businesses and everyday internet users. But, in the last decade, we’ve made modest progress placing limits on patent trolling. The Supreme Court’s 2014 decision in Alice v. CLS Bank barred patents that were nothing more than abstract ideas with computer jargon added in. Using the Alice test, federal courts have kicked out a rogue’s gallery of hundreds of the worst patents.
Under Alice’s clear rules, courts threw out ridiculous patents on “matchmaking”, online picture menus, scavenger hunts, and online photo contests. The nation’s top patent court, the Federal Circuit, actually approved a patent on watching an ad online twice before the Alice rules finally made it clear that patents like that cannot be allowed. The patents on “bingo on a computer?” Gone under Alice. Patents on loyalty programs (on a computer)? Gone. Patents on upselling (with a computer)? All gone. ...
PERA’s attempt to roll back progress goes beyond computer technology. For almost 30 years, some biotech and pharmaceutical companies actually applied for, and were granted, patents on naturally occuring human genes. As a consequence, companies were able to monopolize diagnostic tests that relied on naturally occurring genes in order to help predict diseases such as breast cancer, making such testing far more expensive. The ACLU teamed up with doctors to confront this horrific practice, and sued. That lawsuit led to a historic victory in 2013 when the Supreme Court disallowed patents on human genes found in nature.
If PERA passes, it will explicitly overturn that ruling, allowing human genes to be patented once again. ...
“To See Your Own Blood, Your Own Genes”
From the 1980s until the 2013 Myriad decision, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted patents on human genomic sequences. If researchers “isolated” the gene—a necessary part of analysis—they would then get a patent that described isolating, or purified, as a human process, and insist they weren’t getting a patent on the natural world itself.
But this concept of patenting an “isolated” gene was simply a word game, and a distinction without a difference. With the genetic patent in hand, the patent-holder could demand royalty payments from any kind of test or treatment involving that gene. And that’s exactly what Myriad Genetic did when they patented the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene sequences, which are important indicators for the prevalence of breast or ovarian cancer.
Myriad’s patents significantly increased the cost of those tests to U.S. patients. The company even sent some doctors cease and desist letters, saying the doctors could not perform simple tests on their own patients—even looking at the gene sequences without Myriad’s permission would constitute patent infringement.
This behavior caused pathologists, scientists, and patients to band together with ACLU lawyers and challenge Myriad’s patents. They litigated all the way to the Supreme Court, and won. “A naturally occurring DNA segment is a product of nature and not patent eligible merely because it has been isolated,” the Supreme Court stated in Association for Molecular Pathology v. Myriad Genetics.
A practice like granting and enforcing patents on human genes should truly be left in the dustbin of history. It’s shocking that pro-patent lobbyists have convinced these Senators to introduce legislation seeking to reinstate such patents. Last month, the President of the College of American Pathologists published an op-ed reminding lawmakers and the public about the danger of patenting the human genome, calling gene patents “dangerous to the public welfare.”
As Lisbeth Ceriani, a breast cancer survivor and a plaintiff in the Myriad case said, “It’s a basic human right to see your own blood, your own genes.” "

It’s kinda funny how much 1B got ignored in the final arc, and from a narrative perspective it makes sense not to clutter things up to much but aside from a few brief appearances the arguably best attention they get is for monoma for copying warpgate and eraser. With that being said assuming anyone cared enough what do you think the class B “Iron Might” items would be like?
That just makes me think that All Might just has another car full of tech just for the 1-B kids. All For One thinks he's got Toshinori dead to rights and his second car, Heracles, comes out of nowhere with another suit like it's the second stage of a boss fight.
-Awase: Giant metal pillars that fire out and sear themselves onto the target to deal damage and weight them down.
-Kamakiri: A giant sword. Would it be more fitting to have swords pop out of him? Yes, but I want him carrying a buster sword.
-Kuroiro: A cape-like extension meant to camouflage with it's surroundings to hide the user.
-Kendo: Giant fists. Just a ton of armor all coming together to make a giant set of meaty claws.
-Kosei: Sets of floating plates that act as both platforms and shields as All Might needs them.
-Komori: Sprays that activate a fast growing mold meant to fester in wounds and inhibit breathing.
-Manga: A series of marked grenades around the suit that can disperse various effects, such as a flames or electricity.
-Juzo: A set of drills from the hands that can help him rapidly dig underground.
-Reiko: A series of drones meant to latch onto and control anything All Might sicks them on.
-Rin: A set of tiny, jagged plates that can stab anyone the user grapples and be fire out like bullets.
-Shoda: Pilebunker. Just a giant hydraulics system meant to add some extra punch to his fist attacks.
-Ibara: A series of cables to coming from the back of the suit to tangle and bind with.
-Tetsutetsu: It's a giant suit of armor that helps protect All Might from bigger attacks. It's literally the same as Kirishima's.
-Bondo: A cannon near the upper back of the suit that fires out the same face acting concrete used in the License Exam.
-Sen: Various gyros around the suit to make parts of the armor spin and help improve the damage of the other weapons systems.
-Jutora: An additional layer of armor meant to augment the user's natural strength and give a more beastly appearance.
-Pony: Missiles. Just a bunch of homing missiles centered on whomever is unlucky enough to be in his line of sight.
-Setsuna: A series of small, multi-purpose drones linked up to the suit's sensory system. Maybe they could double as quick replacement parts.
-Kodai: Various pieces of micro tech that's meant to unfold and expand into larger weapons. Possibly used in tandem with ome of the other weapon systems.
-Monoma: An operating system meant to monitor and redeploy the various tools in play, effectively acting as the reserve for all the other gadgets.

UNIX vs Linux
While studying my first lecture of the Linux course, I noticed that the lecture notes always referred to Linux (UNIX). This made me confused about whether Linux and UNIX are the same thing. After conducting some research, here's what I found:
UNIX was created before Linux. UNIX is an operating system that was developed in the 1960s and 1970s at Bell Labs. It was designed to be a portable, multi-user, and multitasking operating system. UNIX became widely adopted and influenced the development of many other operating systems, including Linux.
On the other hand, Linux was created in 1991 by Linus Torvalds as a free and open-source operating system. Linus Torvalds developed the Linux kernel, which is the core component of the operating system. Linux was inspired by UNIX and aimed to provide similar functionality and design principles while being accessible to a broader audience.
There are some key differences between the two:
Licensing: UNIX is a proprietary operating system, and its source code is not freely available. In contrast, Linux is open-source, which means its source code is available for anyone.
Kernel Design: The kernel design of UNIX and Linux differs. UNIX typically uses a monolithic kernel. Linux, on the other hand, uses a modular monolithic kernel.(I'll explain this in another post)
Command Line Interface: While both UNIX and Linux provide a command line interface, UNIX systems often have their own set of commands and tools, while Linux distributions commonly include the GNU utilities, which provide a comprehensive set of command-line tools.
Availability and Community Support: UNIX is typically associated with commercial offerings from companies . In contrast, Linux has a wide range of distributions that are freely available and supported by vibrant communities.

📁 Interview 003: "Emulating Windows on MacOS for UTAU Workflow." ft. ryouichii
Today's topic is something most of you all must be curious about, when making my content, my job is to make UTAU on MacOS a better experience for everyone. So today I pulled together a very interesting interview on contrasting the experience of UTAU on Windows and MacOS operating systems! We will be interviewing UTAU content creator Ryouichii for today's interview, who operates between MacOS and Windows in their workflow.
Before we get started with the questions, please introduce yourself!
Ryouichi: I’m Ryouichi! I'm an artist and UTAU user from the UK, I make covers and manage 3 (soon-to-be 4) UTAUs! My main UTAU is Hikuine Kiiro, who just recently got a massive multi-expression VCV for his 10th anniversary!
youtube
I'm super proud of it.. it took me more than a year to put together. I got into Vocaloid around 2011-2012 and subsequently found out UTAU is a thing at around 2013? It took me a while, but I released my first UTAU in late 2014 and it's led me to where I am now !
That's incredible! You've been in the scene since the very beginning! I'm happy to see you're still here pouring out your passion into your work. Kiiro is a very impressive UTAU. I look forward to seeing your new projects to come! For our first question, I originally saw your tweet when you sold your PC to work on MacOS, and it really interested me because. I normally don't see phenomena like that, its normally vice versa?
Q. So, when switching to MacOS, what stood out to you, and why did you switch?
Ryouichi: I mainly switched to MacOS out of frustration with Windows 11, and with Windows 10 reaching EOS, I thought it was time to jump ship. I was getting tired of the constant hitches and bugs, along with Microsoft forcing bloatware onto my PC. I remember specifically watching the bluetooth menu freaking the heck out and I just gave up on the spot and went to look for Macbooks. Funnily enough, past experiences with MacOS was a little frustrating too (...not sure if it was because I had no idea what I was doing?), but this was around the OS X days, so I gave it the benefit of the doubt. When I switched, Sonoma was the latest version, and it felt sooo much easier to use compared to El Capitan personally.
I see, I've heard of the difficulties with the latest in Windows. At least Macs give you the option to update! It is very common when switching from Windows, most my friends complain to me about the interface of MacOS, but its something that I've used for the last 13 years! But I get the struggle because I recently got a Windows laptop and it feels so rigid compared to MacOS? But I feel I've gotten better at navigating it and broke the habit of double clicking! (haha)
Q. For the next question, before the interview, we discussed emulation on MacOS, so I would like to ask what it is like having a workflow reliant on emulation, and what it is like producing a cover between Mac and Windows OS?
Ryouichi: It's definitely clunky, and at one point, I had to change my external storage from a hard drive to an SSD because of the hangs and freezes it would cause. It can also be very expensive!! Parallels charges up the butt for a license, and you don't even get to own the software if you don't want weird limits on performance. I know there's VMware, but I couldn't get it to access my external storage for whatever reason, so I dropped that pretty quickly. I've gotten used to Parallels over the months, though! It can be slow at times, but it allows me to use a workflow I'm very comfy with, and that's perfectly fine with me. As for making covers between OS's, I find Mac to be more restrictive than Windows personally. It's because I established a good workflow while I was still using Windows, and trying to fit that into MacOS proved difficult. I will say producing videos on MacOS feels much smoother though!! I used to use AviUtl for that stuff, but moving to MacOS forced me to switch to more professional software like After Effects, and it runs like a dream… I've dabbled with it on Windows before and found the performance to be not so good? So in comparison, it's great, honestly.
A Parallels license is quite expensive! Its the only option for Silicon MacOS as far as I know, but on Intel, I did have a Windows Bootcamp set up. It was quite laggy, so I deleted the partition and stuck with vanilla MacOS. For MV production, I will say the larger programs like the Adobe suite, and Final Cut, run MUCH better on Apple Silicon than on Intel MacOS. So because of this I do all of my MV production on my iPad!
Continuing on the topic of emulation, people have mentioned Wine and Homebrew, but I do believe that running UTAU2008 through these means is a bit clunky. Found this out recently when trying to emulate Notepad++, as its a hassle to boot and locate using the Wine emulator. So when opting for Parallels, while it might be expensive you’re paying for the quality as well!
This was a very good contrast between Windows and MacOS; taking advantage of both operating systems, and discussing virtual machine emulation!
Q. To continue on the topic, what sorts of features do you wish MacOS had?
Ryouichi: It's not really a MacOS feature, but more on the end of developers… I really wish there was more MacOS support for games. Sure, there's crossover and GPTK which do an amazing job with translating games over to apple silicon, but I prefer native support, since some games are SO particular and finicky on crossover. It's a shame that there's barely any games coming out with that, especially with how good graphical processing is getting with the newer chips. But if I had to nitpick, I wish there were individual app volume sliders… and I wish screenshots were automatically copied into the clipboard … but that's about it honestly.
Ah yes, I recently have been looking into Crossover but I genuinely wish there was more support for MacOS. Crossover perpetual will cost an arm and a leg, but I believe it is much more streamlined than Wine. Crossover has the convenience of making your Windows applications accessible from a singular hub rather than digging in your system files. This is one of the main reasons I got a Windows laptop was to play the games I bought during steam sales!
On the topic of volume control, after trying Windows, I noticed there was a built-in feature to adjust individual App volume! I love this feature, but was something I had to pay for on my Mac using Sound Control, and that has been working smoothly for me. As for screenshots, I was not aware they did that! But I do see how that would be inconvenient. On iOS you're given the option to copy and paste a screenshot if I remember correctly.
Q. To wrap up this interview, what are you future ambitions for your work?
Ryouichi: My future ambitions ……. I'm not the type to really have those, honestly, I tend to just do what I wanna do without really thinking ahead. I guess I'd like to see myself improve! I like looking back on old art and covers and comparing it with what I've produced more recently. It's a really big reason why I'm still going, gives me a sense that what I'm doing is really doing something. I'd also want to dabble with different languages in vocal synths… I've been thinking of adding Korean to Kiiro's DiffSinger voicebank when I get around to re-recording it?? I just hope my bri'ish accent isn't distracting, innit ™️ I'd also like to put my name out more, be it making PVs for people, entering contests or something like CVfest if that's happening next year! I've noticed I've been losing interest over the years and I'd really like to revitalize it by doing things I usually wouldn't.
I see! Normally I just pick up work as I go, so it was probably a very direct question. Dabbling in other languages sounds fun! It can be very daunting, but I wish you all the luck with it, I’m sure you'll do fantastic! CVfest is a great event, a lot of people touch back into making a simple voicebank and build characters together! It's something I would be interested in as well! As for keeping passion more consistent, I think the easiest way to keep your interest is to incorporate new ideas and mediums into vocal synth as its a very tangible hobby! I've found myself using all my skills for it, so its very expansive. That being said, I appreciate you sharing your time and insight with us today on the KEITAIWARE project! If you would like to see more of Ryouichii's work, their profiles will be tagged below. Thank you for reading!

Okay done with chapter 10 starting with chapter 11 of The Lightning Thief, and normally I planned on not making a post on every single chapter BUT, I do have some changes/additions in my traitor theories.
So first off, Annabeth is the traitor. SO far has the most prove in the book imo (which is till meager), but I REALLY don't like how she told Percy that they HAVE to not get along because of their parents. Personally I just think that's more proof for my "Annabeth is the traitor" theory.
She was pretty nice to Percy pre-claiming, and on the bus she did fully intend sacrificing herself for him. But she also seems to have this very deep anchored world view of how their parents should affect them and their actions.
So, I modify my theory : Annabeths a traitor, but will get a redemption arc. The reason for the betrayal stays the same, her mom and her rivalry with Poseidon. And Annabeth would think that she NEEDS to betray Percy bc she's the kid of her mom.
So instead of being a malicious traitor, she'd be more like a tragic, indoctrinated villain who needs to be shown to do better ! It most definitely would be interesting.
HOWEVER, this is based of the reaction of another friend when I talked to them about my theories and they reacted very...... weird. After some time I threw in Grover being the traitor more as a joke and while not SAYING anything, that silence was SHOUTING.
So, Grover being the traitor. Canon proof ? Not rly there. Would it be one hell of a plot twist ? YES. Could be bitterness maybe ? My impression was that Satyrs were sort of servants or atleast bellow halfbloods in some way. I could deffo see him getting worked up over that.
Then however he did have a close relationship with Percy and a GOOD reason to stay loyal to get his license. So may I present : Multi-book build up of Grover betraying Percy.
With that I mean, should Grover be the traitor I think he wouldn't betray Percy in this book. Chiron said smth about prophecies having double meanings, so I assume they can be kinda wacky. Imagine Grover slowly building resent against the demi gods for how they use his ppl as tools/servants, and betrays Percy/the halfbloods as a whole in a later book. It could be a cool moment where the thing mentioned in the first book comes back around !
I do however admit myself, that theory is a WILD. Like, WILD WILD. And my only thing to go off on is the silence of my friend and the emoji's they send as a response. Take that theory with the BIGGEST grain of salt.
The third option I think possible : The traitor isn't gonna be Annabeth OR Grover, but will be a character later introduced. Comes from me starting to think that Annabeth could be a bit obvious with the whole sudden switch in how she acts with Percy making it a bit obvious. And the Grover theory being borderline crack.
That option would be my fav, since tbh I don't RLY want Annabth to go villain (even if the redemtion arc would be juicy as hell) but I also don't want Grover to start resenting his friends.
Logically speaking I do think it's Annabeth more likely than Grover tho. (Considering I now have theories for both being the traitor we're basically back to square one. Kill me, please.)
ON ANOTHER NOTE; apparently it's quite common for the author to describe scars as ugly looking and evil. (Thanks to the wonderful user who gave me that info !) Which, first off, YIKES. Not good, like at all.
That fact does however help me with my theory, since it allows me to safely eliminate one character for sure now. Luke !
I mean, I already didn't think it was him. The only thing that made me peek up was when he was described as evil-looking in that one paragraph. But if that (sadly) apparently is a norm, then it more likely than not wasn't foreshadowing.
So yeah, it's not gonna be Luke so I can just start to safely ignore him in my traitor theories. (Not like I ever considered him a real candidate in the first place, he's just safely eliminated in my head now)
#pkz mark spoilers in replies/reblogs if you have them ! Thanks ^^#That last part abt Luke rly was just there for the sake of being complete#because#like#how could it EVER be Luke !?#Like even Chiron has more of a chance to be the traitor than him at this point lol#It's between Annabeth and some thrid character that will get introduced later on for me rn with a STRONG tendency to Annabeth#percy pjo#percy jackon and the olympians#annabeth chase#pjo series#pjo fandom#pjo#luke castellan#grover underwood#grover pjo#pjo theory

The Future of MT4 and MT5: What Traders Should Know
MetaTrader 4 (MT4) and MetaTrader 5 (MT5) have been around for a long time, almost unbeatable as platforms for retail traders and algo traders. But with the financial markets moving so quickly, there are many traders and developers asking, —What's next for MT4 and MT5?
Let's take a look at MT4 and MT5 and their situation and future relevance in trading.
MT4 v. MT5: A Quick History
MT4 has been around since 2005 and is very commonly used for forex and CFDs. It is renowned for its straightforward user experience and for the vast ecosystem of indicators and Expert Advisors (EAs) available.
MT5 was released in 2010 and has better specifications, supports more assets, processes trades faster, has multi-threaded backtesting, and allows an economic calendar.
There is no question that MT5 is technically superior—so why does MT4 continue to command the market, with brokers placing more importance on it than MT5, if they even offer MT5?
Why MT4 Will Continue to Thrive in 2025 Extensive Community Support: Thousands of traders and developers are still using the MT4 codebase and ecosystem.
Lightweight Environment: MT4 has a smaller memory footprint in terms of running resources and can be easily implemented on older PCs or in stable environments.

The Intersection of Driver’s Licenses and Cybersecurity in 2025
As we look toward 2025, cybersecurity is becoming an increasingly critical aspect of the digital transformation of driver’s licenses. With more Canadians opting for digital driver’s licenses (DLs), ensuring these digital IDs are protected from cyber threats is paramount. The convergence of driver’s licenses and cybersecurity is reshaping how individuals manage their credentials and how governments secure sensitive information in the digital age.
The Rise of Digital Driver’s Licenses
Digital driver’s licenses have emerged as an essential part of Canada’s shift toward smarter, more efficient services. Provinces like Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta have started offering digital licenses, allowing residents to store their DLs on smartphones and access them via secure apps. This shift is not only more convenient for drivers but also reduces physical waste and improves overall efficiency in verification processes.
However, with these advances come new risks, particularly related to cybersecurity. As digital licenses become more widespread, ensuring their security is a growing concern for both citizens and government agencies.
To stay updated on the latest digital licensing guidelines, licenseprep.ca is a valuable resource that provides information about digital driver’s licenses and the security protocols involved in their use.

Cybersecurity Challenges in Digital Licenses
While digital driver’s licenses offer many benefits, they also introduce several cybersecurity risks that need to be addressed:
1. Data Breaches and Hacking
With digital licenses stored on smartphones, there is the risk of data breaches or hacking. Cybercriminals could potentially gain unauthorized access to users’ personal information, leading to identity theft or fraudulent activities. Securing the digital infrastructure that houses these licenses is essential to mitigating these threats.
2. Phishing and Fraud
Phishing attacks, where cybercriminals impersonate legitimate institutions to steal sensitive data, are a growing concern. Digital licenses could be targeted by these malicious actors, tricking users into sharing login credentials or personal information under false pretenses.
3. Privacy Concerns
As digital driver’s licenses become more integrated with other smart city systems, the amount of data being shared and stored increases. Ensuring that user privacy is protected and that data isn’t misused is crucial. A robust data encryption system must be in place to prevent unauthorized access to users' sensitive information.
Solutions to Strengthen Cybersecurity
To safeguard the future of digital driver’s licenses, various cybersecurity measures are being implemented:
1. Encryption and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Using end-to-end encryption ensures that the information stored on a digital driver’s license is protected from unauthorized access. Additionally, multi-factor authentication (MFA) can be used to add an extra layer of security when accessing or updating license information.
2. Blockchain Technology

With streaming growth plateauing, Netflix doubles down on gaming. The $10B Scopely acquisition adds hit mobile titles (Star Trek Fleet Command, Marvel Strike Force) to its portfolio, creating a subscription gaming bundle that meshes with its IP-driven content engine.
7. Amazon + Equinox + Whole Foods = Wellness Ecosystems
Amazon merges Equinox’s luxury fitness brand with Whole Foods’ footprint, launching “Whole Life” hubs: members work out, sauna, grab chef-prepared meals at the hot bar, and shop for groceries—all under one subscription.
8. Professional Sports Become the Ultimate Cultural Currency
Athletes supplant Hollywood stars as cultural icons, with leagues monetizing 24/7 fandom via microtransactions (NFT highlights, AI-personalized broadcasts). Even as streaming fragments TV rights, live sports’ monopoly on real-time attention fuels record valuations.
9. Bryan Johnson’s Blueprint Goes Mainstream
Dismissed as a biohacking meme in 2023, Blueprint pivots from $1,000/month “vampire face cream” to a science-backed longevity brand. Partnering with retail giants, it dominates the $50B supplement market and other longevity products (hair loss, ED, etc).
10. Jayden Daniels Redefines QB Training with Neurotech
The Commanders’ rookie stuns the NFL with pre-snap precision honed via AR/VR simulations that accelerate cognitive processing. His startup JaydenVision, licenses the tech to the league—making “brain reps” as routine as weightlifting by 2026.
*BONUS*
11. YouTube Spins Out, Dwarfing Google’s Valuation
Alphabet spins off YouTube into a standalone public company. Unleashed from Google’s baggage, YouTube capitalizes on its creator economy, shoppable videos, and AI-driven content tools. Its market cap surpasses $1.5T—eclipsing Google’s core search business.
