Exit exam for mbbs
From 2022, FMGE & NEET-PG will be merged & replaced by NEXT: National Exit Test which will be a common exit exam for MBBS, Indian as well as Foreign Medical Graduates.
Here is a National Exit Exam for MBBS latest news as National Exit Test (NEXT) will be implemented from 2022. Thus NEET-PG & FMGE (MCI Screening Test) will continue to be conducted in 2021 as before. Later these two exams will be merged into NEXT exit exam from March 2022.
In a meeting on 15 Feb 2020 conducted by Board of Governors (BoG), the pattern of NEXT exam was discussed in relation to the following proposal:
NEXT exam will be conducted in 2 parts: NEXT-1 (MCQs based theory exam) & NEXT-2 (practical exam). It is proposed that NEXT-1 will be conducted after final year MBBS exam. If student passes NEXT-1 exam, he/she will proceed to do internship. At the end of internship, students will have to appear NEXT-2. After passing NEXT-2, students can register themselves with State Medical Council.
NEXT-1 will be a Computer Based Test which will be conducted over 3 days:
Day 1: 120 MCQs from medicine & allied subjects (dermatology, psychiatry) & 60 MCQs from pediatrics (Total 4.5 hrs).
Day 2: 120 MCQs from surgery & allied subjects (orthopedics, anesthesia) & 60 MCQs from ENT (Total 4.5 hrs).
Day 3: 120 MCQs from Obstetrics-Gynecology & allied subjects (radiology) & 60 MCQs from opthalmology (Total 4.5 hrs).
Among above 540 MCQs: 10% MCQs from each stream will be from basic applied sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology & pharmacology) and 10% MCQs will be from Preventive & Social Medicine (PSM). Among above 540 MCQs:
NEXT-1 will be qualifying as well as competitive exam. Rank in NEXT-1 exam will be considered to allot PG (MD/ MS/ DNB/ Diplomas) seats in government & private medical colleges. Students will join PG college after their internship based on rank in NEXT-1 which they have appeared before internship. Score of NEXT-1 will be valid for 2 to 3 years for PG entrance purpose. NEXT-2 will be a pass / fail exam. It will not have any score or rank. Students will have to pass NEXT-2 before pursuing PG.
Experts in the field say that NEXT-2 will be merely a formality. The real challenge for the students is NEXT-1. It is highly advisable that MBBS students should start preparing for NEXT-1 at the earliest from 1st or 2nd year MBBS. NEXT-1 will decide the specialty in which you will be able to do MD/MS & college where you can get MD/ MS. Every MBBS student wants to pursue MD/ MS in the specialty of choice in a reputed government medical college. Implications are clear: MBBS students should take NEXT-1 exam very seriously & start preparing for it at the earliest. Joining courses like Bright EduWorld NEXT Online Coaching from 1st or 2nd year MBBS is a good thought if PG is your dream. Keep in touch with us for national exit exam for mbbs latest news
