thinking about beatrice/domino's mother again (and i feel Normal about her unknowingly having gone by her name for several years, by the way) & how the fact that her earliest memory of her is this and the next time they meet -- at a point which she has no recollection of her own past at all at -- she shoots her in the head having to get between her and her little brother

+ the fact that when domino as a child went catatonic from the same experiments, she was whisked off to a church in chicago (project armageddon's location in the everglades making it a ~20h trip) to be raised somewhere safe. i'm aware the '90s line was by all accounts a throwaway and in likelihood doesn't connect at all, but i'm compelled by the interpersonal nightmare that is domino retaining that conflicting memory & beatrice, being who she is and now only seeing her as a failure, changing the narrative to it being her command to the cultists as an impersonal act of pity rather than her committing to it despite herself (alongside the admission she never would have been loved in the complex) (alongside alongside the fact that domino meets the priest again later and he notes it was her mother bringing her there)

turning that one loose childhood memory into a terrible muck of if it ever even was domino's mother singing or just one of her lackeys or later someone from the church taking pity (or worse yet, one of the scientists trying to soothe their conscience)

this is barely comprehensible but i really love the idea of both domino and her utterly estranged, terrible mother being cold distant women and domino in her turn struggling to draw the line lower as seen with the first x-force and as seen with her little brother (and her "to some degree having to force it through" approach to showing affection in her older appearances)
