“Ain’t that the truth. I try to keep at least two tubs in there for Jeanz and Clara when possible. And myself if I get hurt on a contract.”

Phoenix lets out a hum of acknowledgment and continues to rub in the cream, making sure to get full coverage. Then the possible implication behind Lazarus’s words sunk in and Phoenix froze, his face heating up even as he tried to pretend that it wasn’t.

“Oh, uhm… Yeah. I patch myself up anytime I get hurt. I try to avoid hospitals when possible,” he said. “I have been teaching Clara to throw her knives better. She’s pretty good at it so far.”

He finished rubbing in the cream and grabbed the fresh roll of bandages before starting to wrap them around the burn.

He made sure to be careful while still keeping the bandages tight and secure, not wanting to cause any discomfort for Lazarus. When he was finished, Phoenix patted the bandage and asked, “Is that good? Not too tight, not uncomfortable?”

The sound of a revving engine comes to an abrupt halt on the dirt road, followed by the crunch of boots against gravel. There's a knock at the door, and a familiar voice breaks the silence.

'Phoenix? It's me-

But before the voice can finish, they are cut off by a low growling.

Oh, I think I recognise ya… hey now, let's not do anythin' we'll regret- Ack

Followed shortly by a thump and a yell

Phoenix perks up when he hears the knock on the door followed by the sound of Laz’s voice. A smile spreads across his face and he gives Theo and Iris each a kiss on the forehead before finishing tucking them in and leaving the room.

A pang of confusion and mild panic goes through him at the sound of Laz’s yell. Phoenix races to the front door and opens it, seeing Shadow snarling over top of Laz.

“Shadow! Come here right now! Stop that!” Phoenix commands.

Shadow turns to look at him, then at Laz, before giving one last snarl and going to sit at Phoenix’s legs.

Phoenix sighs and shakes his head, offering a hand out to Laz with a guilty look. “Sorry, I don’t know why he did that. Are you okay?”
