👋Obsessions are intrusive thoughts or impulses that repeatedly occur. The person tries to suppress them but to no avail. The anxiety associated with suppression can also become too much to bear, making them engage in compulsive behaviors to decrease their anxiety. 👋Compulsions are repetitive acts that temporarily relieve the stress and anxiety brought on by an obsession. Often, people who have compulsions believe these rituals will prevent something bad from happening. 👋Examples of obsessions include: ✅Fear of being contaminated by germs or dirt or contaminating others ✅Fear of losing control and harming yourself or others ✅Intrusive sexually explicit or violent thoughts and images ✅Excessive focus on religious or moral ideas ✅Fear of losing or not having things you might need ✅Order and symmetry: the idea that everything must line up “just right” ✅Superstitions; excessive attention to something considered lucky or unlucky 👋Examples of compulsions include: ✅Excessive double-checking of things, such as locks & switches ✅Repeatedly checking in on loved ones to make sure they’re safe ✅Counting, tapping, repeating certain words, or doing other senseless things to reduce anxiety ✅Spending a lot of time washing or cleaning ✅Ordering or arranging things “just so” ✅Praying excessively or engaging in rituals triggered by religious fear ✅Accumulating “junk” such as old newspapers or empty food containers #ocdawareness #ocd #ocdhelp #ocdrecovery #ocdsupport #ocddelhi #ocdproblems #ocdrelief #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #obsession #compulsion #obsessionandcompulsion #drparulprasad #mindwisepsychiatry https://www.instagram.com/p/CHPXmhWnHa5/?igshid=aa6cswsnxdnu
