Free or Cheap General Language Resources Because idk I Just Wanna Help
All resources either have a free tier or have a low ($10 USD/month or less) subscription fee or a one time purchase option below $100 USD. All prices I give are in USD because I live in the US and this list was already hard to put together okay I'm not also doing conversions
Find language specific lists here.
I have given the links in text format because tumblr has a link limit. Copy and paste into your browser to look at them.
These are generalized. Not for your specific language.
LinQ, a website for reading: https://www.lingq.com/en/
You can click on words you don't know and get a definition and save a flashcard. They provide readings for all levels from beginner to advanced and you can upload your own texts and podcast or video transcripts and there's stuff uploaded by other users to browse through. The website also has some texts with audio included. You can also purchase books through the website. This is all included in the free tier. The paid tier allows you to save an unlimited number of flashcards and includes some forum and tutoring options. It's either $15 a month or $120 for a full year.
Languages available in full: Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Dutch, English, Esperanto, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Ukrainian
Languages partially supported or with incomplete beginner courses: Afrikaans, Armenian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Traditional Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Georgian, Gujarati, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Irish, Khmer, Macedonian, Malay, Persian, Punjabi, Serbian, Slovenian, Swahili, Tagalog, Turkish, Vietnamese
Migaku, a web extension and app: https://migaku.com/
Paid service at $10 a month. It has beginner courses and allows for dual language subtitles on things like netflix or youtube. It also allows users to save flashcards from subtitles or articles and sync flashcards between devices
Supported languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese
Storylearning Books: https://storylearning.com/books
These are short story, dialogue, or history books by Olly Richards written for beginner to intermediate learners that in my experience at least are written to not be boring for adults. Each chapter of a book includes a key vocabulary list and comprehension questions. Storylearning also has online courses available but they're too expensive for what you get in my opinion. The books are way cheaper, though depending on the language you may have more or less books to buy. The books are usually in the $15-$20 range new but they're often available at used bookstores both online and irl for much cheaper.
Books available in: Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Arabic (MSA), Brazillian Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, Icelandic, Korean, Norwegian, Swedish, Turkish, Irish
Mango Languages, a pretty standard language app: https://mangolanguages.com/
This is actually a pretty pricey one at like $20 a month but the reason I bring it up is that a lot of people can get it free through their local library and it has a large selection of languages.
Languages supported: Armenian, Azerbaijani, Egyptian Arabic, Iraqi Arabic, Levantine Arabic, Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), Bengali, Cantonese, chaldean Aramaic. Cherokee, Mandarin, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dari, Dutch, Dzongkha, English, Tagalog, Finnish, French (European and Canadian), German, Greek (modern, ancient, and kione), Hatian Creole, Hawaiian, Hebrew (modern and biblical), Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Igbo, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Javanese, Kazakh, Korean, Latin, Malay, Malayalam, Norwegian, Farsi, Polish, Potawatomi, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Scottish Gaelic, Serbian, Shanghainese, Slovak, Spanish (castillian and latin american), Swahili, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Tuvan, Ukrainian, Urdu, Uzbek, Vietnamese, Yiddish
Comprehensible Input Wiki, a website for finding language specific comprehensible input resources: https://comprehensibleinputwiki.org/wiki/Main_Page
Comprehensible input is input in a language you understand the message of, not necessarily input you understand every word of. It's good for you to get a lot of it from day one. This website gathers resources like podcasts, kid's shows, youtube channels, books, etc. that are perfect for this sort of thing.
Languages currently on the website as I am writing this: American Sign Language, Arabic (MSA), Armenian, Basque, Biblical Greek, Biblical Hebrew, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Esperanto, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Haitian creole, Hakka, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Irish, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Occitan, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Romanian, Sanskrit, Sardinian, Serbo-Croatian, Sicilian, Slovak, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tagalog, Thai, Toki Pona, Tunisian Arabic, Turkish, Ukranian, Vietnamese, Welsh, Yoruba, Zulu
Drops, a vocab app: https://languagedrops.com/
Drops teaches vocab through pictures and matching and spelling games, though you can also customize your settings to show translations and different alphabets or not. The free tier has ads and a daily time limit. The lifetime subscription is technically against my personal rule for this post because it's $160 but it often goes on sale for half off or $80. There's also a monthly or yearly payment option. At the paid tier you can practice for an unlimited time without ads and choose which types of vocabulary words you want to learn.
Supported Languages: Ainu, English (American and British), Arabic (MSA), Bosnian, Portuguese (Brazilian and European), Cantonese, Spanish, (Castilian and Mexican), Catalan, Croatian, Danish, Dutch, Esperanto, Estonian, Finnish, French, Galacian, German, Greek, Hawaiian, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Igbo, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Maori, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Samoan, Sanskrit for yoga, Serbian, Swahili, Swedish, Tagalog, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Yoruba
Anki, a general flashcard app: https://apps.ankiweb.net/
You can make your own flashcards on Anki or download flashcard packs that other users have made. It also allows for importing of audio and visual aids. It has a spaced repetition system that a lot of people swear by. Some companies like Refold also sell premade flashcard packs specifically for Anki. Free on desktop, I believe about a $20 one time purchase on iOS.
Muzzy In GondoLand (1986): https://archive.org/details/muzzy-in-gondoland-level-i-1986
No, really! The old Muzzy movies from the 80s made to teach kids foreign languages are fairly easy to find for free on archive.org or on youtube. The new Muzzy with workbooks and an app and whatnot requires a paid subscription to the BBC but the older ones are much easier to find. They're available in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Chinese, Korean, Esperanto, and Welsh.
Easy Languages, a connected group of Youtube channels: https://www.easy-languages.org/
Easy Language channels are channels where people interview speakers of the language on the street about everyday topics like dating, tourism, and shopping for example. They have dual language subtitles in their videos in the target language and English. Many of them also have series about useful phrases for beginners and intermediate podcasts. Most also have bonus worksheets and other learning materials on their patreons but the free content available is already a lot.
Current active channels: Arabic, Catalan, Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish
wordreference.com
A website that lets you look up words in another language. It's better than google translate. It has pronunciation in multiple dialects and in depth explanations that some other websites don't have.
Supported Languages: Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, Dutch, Swedish, Icelandic, Russian, Polish, Romanian, Czech, Greek, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic
edX, a website for taking college courses, often for free: https://www.edx.org/learn/language
I can't tell you precisely what's available because it changes year to year but they usually offer a wide variety of courses. You can also often get real college credit through these if that's something you're interested in. Programming languages are often mixed in with spoken or signed languages though so you may have to do some digging through the lists to fins what you want.

Tumblr media
Gemdrops has announced hololive Holo’s Hanafuda, a hanafuda game with online support featuring hololive members. It will launch for PC via Steam in 2025 with English, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, and Indonesian language support. It will also be playable at Taipei Game Show 2025, which will run from January 23 to 26 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.
Here is an overview of the game, via Gemdrops:
About
hololive Holo’s Hanafuda is a modern take on the classic Japanese card game, hanafuda. In hololive Holo’s Hanafuda, you can battle it out with cards that feature original hololive member art! In addition to hanafuda’s traditional rule systems—Koi-Koi, Oicho-Kabu, and Hana Awase—this game also features an original gameplay mode called “Holo Awase.” That makes for a total of four different playable rule sets with which you can battle your opponents both online and offline!
Holo Awase
Match cards with hololive characters on them to finish holo sets and unleash each character’s powerful unique skill! Get the most sets and the most points to beat your opponent!
Multiple Modes?!
Though matches form the bulk of this game, there is more than just hanafuda to this game! Adventure Mode, for instance, takes players on a wild story-based adventure with their hololive friends—with a healthy dose of hanafuda to boot, of course. Then there’s the cozy bento box mode, where you can make bento lunch boxes alongside hololive characters, too. All this and more awaits you in hololive Holo’s Hanafuda!

I Only Wore this Outfit for You
Fashion as performance, and the appropriation of alternative fashion by Indonesia's Cruel Kids Table.
Tumblr media
Just like the words we use to express ourselves, what we wear is a language. We consciously speak our identity through the material of our accessories, the worn-out conditions of our shoes, the brand of our sweaters, and whether most of our eyeliner is above or under our eyes. Clothing has an emotional force, and each garment is understood as something that provokes emotions and thoughts. As Porter (2024) puts it, “We all understand the power of a uniform, the authority of tailoring, the veneer of togetherness represented by neat clothes, the supposed shambles of the messy.” To put it simply, clothes inherently have a notion of something attached to them. Certain pieces – or the way they’re styled – are interpreted by others as indicators of economic class, femininity/masculinity, and many more. The way we present ourselves are, subconsciously, our first introductions to others. This is something we can’t escape.
Would you believe me if I told you Virginia Woolf was one of the first alternative girlies? Woolf and her fellow writers, The Bloomsbury Group, were known to defy the established rules of fashion during their time. Rather than the cinched corset that indicated ladylike submission – and was, let’s be honest, a 1900s-approved mode of sexualisation – Woolf opted for draping fabrics and wide-fitting garments, sometimes even wearing pants. This subversion of strict conduct surrounding fashion became more and more prominent as time went by, and opened more avenues towards different subcultures. Fashion had always been a language, but then, it developed into a language of protest and self-expression. A sharp turn from its previous status as a signifier for other people, fashion came to reflect the person wearing it. This act of dressing to provoke your own emotions and thoughts, and defying social norms, became known as a certain word: alternative.
Let’s flash forward now. The COVID-era lockdowns were marked by the spread of long-standing niche online communities and the emergence of rapid-fire social media trends. Many credit this era for the popularisation of alternative fashion within Gen Z, attributing this to the nature of “Di Rumah Aja” allowing young people to freely express themselves in the comfort of their rooms.
But alternative subcultures had been present in Indonesia for long before that. Throughout the 80s, the hardcore music scene was dominated by ‘thrash metal’, and punk fashion inspired by the likes of Joey Ramone started becoming appreciable in Jakarta. However, even then, Indonesians weren’t ready to appreciate punk to its fullest. As the antithesis to popular culture, it wasn’t exactly palatable for the masses. But, desperate times call for desperate measures.
Strict censorship. Repression of students. Sound familiar? Of course it does, you’re Indonesian. During its never-ending, accrescent rise in the 80s-90s, the masses turned to punk as a means of defying the glaring, human-rights-violating oppression of the time. Previously scattered punk communes merged into bigger communities, with local punk collectives organising concerts throughout the 90s. Punk was now recognised as a genre and social movement. And the fashion that came with it – DIY garments, weapon-like spikes, upcycled or barely-held-together clothes, safety pins, tartan and other bold prints, leather, leather, leather – became associated with social uprising. The language communicated through punk clothing was activism, anti-establishment politics, demand for power to the working class, and anger at societal norms. Over time, punk lent its language to other developing subcultures, and one word in their syntax was the core of each dialect that developed from there: politics.
From its history, we know that alternative fashions are known for their creative approaches to style, adapting and fitting garments to its wearer’s preferred aesthetic. The underlying mood of goth during its origins, for example, was decadence, but goth later diversified to the point that there is no one way to “look goth.” Such is the same for all alternative fashions. However, alternative fashion is still inherently political – it should be. There is no one way to “look alternative”, but its countercultural roots encourage – though I personally argue they require – taking a stance against fast fashion, supporting the marginalised communities that made this aesthetic come to life in the first place, and educating oneself on sociopolitical issues, and later actively joining its conversations and discussions. Labeling an outfit as alternative does not represent the subculture sufficiently; it’s simply an aesthetic without the histories, beliefs, creativity, and struggles that are crucial to its development and longevity. The language performed by SHEIN lace corsets labelled as “goth” is entirely a language of appropriation.
Since the popularisation of alternative fashion on TikTok, influencers have been pushing fast fashion brands and bulk buying to “keep up with trends”, using the dialect of alternative subcultures but none of its core syntax. They compile Shopee catalogues labelled as “gothic” from dubious stores, and their followers mass-buy those ready-made garments. Considering the core principles of DIY, upcycling, and anti-consumerism, can this performance be considered alternative? As another example, an article on ‘alt girl fashion’ recommended budget-unfriendly Urban Outfitters clothes. One Google search showed Urban Outfitters was caught in a labour rights scandal, and ranks 11–20% in the 2023 Fashion Transparency Index. That large compilation of links from your favourite TikTok MUA may seem appealing, but you have to ask yourself – is just wanting to achieve a look enough to embody that look? Especially one with such significant social and political roots?
With the depoliticisation of alternative subcultures comes the exclusion of marginalised groups and working class in favour of the majority and upper class – the same marginalised groups and working class who built the appropriated aesthetic from the ground up. The cost of ‘alternative aesthetic’ fashion continues to go up as fast fashion brands, upper-class-targeted thrift stores, and mass-producing e-commerce stores continue to capitalise on it. In Indonesia, time and time again on social media, alternative people are criticised for their fashion being ‘too much’ by the same people who accessorise with chains and wear distressed fabrics. Fashion has always been a signifier and site of discourse, but now more than ever, and in an increasingly hypocritical way. The conduct has evolved to be: look authentic, but TikTok authentic, and subvert, but don’t subvert too far from the ‘For You’ page. The protest language contested by alternative fashion is lost to appropriation.
Fashion is inherently performative, as I’ve said before. But, there’s a difference between performing based on consumerism and social media trends, and performing based on self-identity. Liking things after they’ve gone mainstream is not wrong – but in the case of niches with deep-rooted histories and progressive core values such as alternative fashion, it is always encouraged to educate yourself before fully identifying with it. Put it this way: performing a character you’ve studied and rehearsed is going to be more authentic to the audience and fulfilling to yourself as opposed to choosing a main role that you can’t and don’t want to resonate with. Ignorance has never been something to be proud of, and in alternative communities, it should be something that is to be ashamed of. So before changing your wardrobe to all-black, ask yourself: is this a language I want to and have the capability to speak?

Keep the Change
Halo lagi semuanya!
|Hello again everyone!|
This week and this day was soo tiring so this email is just pictures and little captions about them.
Tumblr media
We met with Kak Rintiwinti on Pday last week. She has been an interested friend for a long time and all missionaries know her. We ate a little spicy food but then we reviewed the 1st Lesson:Pemulihan (restoration). She had lots of questions and even though I speak slowly translating the languages in my mind, we tried our best to answer her and even though we were in a busy place, my companion said, the noise gradually went away and we felt the spirit.
Tumblr media
This is us eating spicy sambal at night. I’ve always liked spicy food but not too spicy. Almost all foods here are eaten with sambal, and honestly when I eat now, it’s not the same or good if it’s not spicy.
Tumblr media
Every Tuesday, we have DCM(District Council meeting) but we have to ride the train to Jakarta because it’s the midway between our district.
Tumblr media
This is my district.
(Left to right standing) Elder Suparman, Elder Kamerath, Elder Hamilton, Elder Peñaflor, Sister Sukamto, Me, (left to right kneeling) Sister Daeli and Sister Raharja
Tumblr media
Oh we tried finding dress for PLD. It’s like a zone conference and people like to wear matching clothes here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Me and my trainer wearig matching clothes🥰getting ready to visit a member who is sick.
Tumblr media
This is Sister Endang. She was very sweet to accompany us to her friend’s house. We rode the train for one station then, rode public transportation.
Tumblr media
This is Brother Alvon, he had stroke a little while ago but he is slowly doing better now. We loved sharing some spritual thought and we hope we lift his spirit up and inspured his mother who is there too. (Not yet a member)
Tumblr media
After that visit, we went to a members house who is hosting our Free English Class for kids. It was one of the weekly service projects we do. It gave me nostalgic vibes of me teaching kids besides the gospel.
Random picture with a big robot statue.
Tumblr media
Me and my trainer in matching outfits again.
Tumblr media
Had fun filming videos for the FB page. Murid Yesus Kristus di Indonesia. It’s not up yet and we made a wrong video so we had a retake the next morning.
Tumblr media
We head out to search for a referral we received through online. We went to the address but it’s not his home. It was were his mom works before. But it’s okay 14 kilometers (roundtrip) is not that big of a deal to me since I love biking.
Tumblr media
After that we had an appointment (dinner).
Tumblr media
I met Elder Tenepere there again. Haha we had a break from all Bahasa or English this time since we can speak in Tagalog with each other.
Tumblr media
The next day is Saturday! Again we need to go to Jakarta if we don’t have appointment.
Tumblr media
Here is us, eating Bakso in the street.
Tumblr media
We went to a bazaar (of clothes and food) to support a member in our ward.
And of course we wash motorcycle for free for service project again.
Tumblr media
Sadly, it rained heavy so sports night was cancelled.
Tumblr media
By the way, Elder Bowen ( Trainer of Elder Tenepere) gave me this. He said it helped him a lot and I couldn’t be more thankful.
Tumblr media
This is brother Dono and his wonderful family who were excited to share his picture album from his mission. It turns out, my companions mom is in one of the photos they serve at the same time. I didn’t take a photo of it sadly.
Tumblr media
No kidding my favorite indonesian food is Cumi(squid). Be it cumi asin (salty squid) or fried (calamares) it just taste good and of course with sambal(spicy sauce).
The people here are so kind and nice. I came here to do good for them but most times I was the one they were doing good to. There was a time I was so scared to cross the street in my bike since it’s sooo busy, and one bapak(father) assisted me to cross. I mjst’ve looked like a lost child there haha.
Fora quick spiritual thought, Please watch this talk from October 2020 General Conference. CLICK IT this time.
Keep the Change
It’s beautiful talk about how Jesus Christ gave us so much than what we can repay Him. And He only wants us to offer our mighty Change of Hearts. This change is not for Him but also for our own good. He asks us to keep the change.
Any desire for change or changes already happened to us because of our willingness to follow Jesus Christ, He asks us to keep it.
I too, hope that I have changed since before. I know I woudn’t want to go back to the days that I didn’t know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ lives a d that they still communicates with us through his living prophets. My life, my heart, mind and plans have changed with that knowledge. Like a caterpillar that have changed into a butterfly, it doesn’t want to go back to the cocoon.
I invite you to:
Follow our page.
If you haven’t yet, follow the Philippines page.
List down changes you observe from youself since you started to follow Jesus Christ’s example.
If you haven’t, list down changes you WANT to happen in your life IF you follow Jesus Christ’s example.
Read the scripture below:
Mosiah 5:2
And they all cried with one voice, saying: Yea, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken unto us; and also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually.

Their role in the relationship was an act, their feelings for Rachi non-existent, with their priorities lying mainly in the man's body and what it could do for them. Break-ups came out of nowhere, with Rachi on the receiving end of all of them, causing the man to become despondent when it came to finding a partner. He'd often complain to Dan, who has heard every. single. one. of Rachi's love-life and sex-life stories.
Currently, Rachi's 'romances' include a plethora of men from the escort services he uses. He's found out that while it can by costly, he'd rather sleep with people who he won't become emotionally attached to in order to spare himself any further heartache. Rachi and Dan have been best friends since childhood. They know each other better than anyone, from their fears to their desires. They're incredibly close, with people around them often mistaking them as being in a relationship.
Chai Sarinawat, 23M, friend
Rachi met Chai at the younger man's workplace at the time, where he was working behind a bar at a nightclub Rachi visited on a whim. They got to talking - there's no better person than a bartender to talk to - and hit it off quickly. Chai was drawn in by Rachi's confidence and carefree spirit, and Rachi immediately felt a need to protect and watch over the young, down-on-his-luck man. They have a good relationship, jokingly calling each other "mommy(mummy)" and "baby/son/child". Rachi helped Chai get a job as Dan's assistant, after seeing him struggle to make ends meet. He knows that Chai has been in an abusive relationship and is terrified of seeing his ex, but does not know to what extent.
>> BACKSTORY:
Rachi was born to Lertchai and Asmara in Bangkok, Thailand. His father owns the 'Victory Gym' company and manages various gyms and fitness centres across Thailand and has a few across Asia, including Japan, Malaysia, and Indonesia. His mother is a women's only fitness instructor. The two bonded over a passion for fitness and exercise, keeping in touch even when Lertchai was travelling to other countries in Asia to manage his company.
The two eventually fell in love and married, having a destination wedding in Indonesia and another ceremony in Thailand.
When Asmara was pregnant with Rachi, the tests all came out that she and Lertchai were having a baby girl. They had the name 'princess' picked out in Indonesian and Thai; however, Rachi came out a boy. Lertchai changed his name to Mongkut instead, meaning 'crown'. As Rachi grew up, his mother recognised immediately that her little boy was a little princess too, and so gave him the nickname 'Putri'. Rachi is only called Putri by his mother, Mongkut by his father, and introduces himself as Rachini or Rachi to everyone else.
He has a good relationship with his parents, who are based in Bangkok but travel a lot throughout Asia for his father's company. While he doesn't like working out at the gym, he does love cardio fitness like his mother, helping instruct yoga and pilates classes. His father also helped him open his own studio in Thailand, where he's currently building his career as a trainer for models and actresses, as well as occasionally providing light fitness services for others. Top Emerging Education Franchise Opportunities in Indonesia: 2025 Edition
As Indonesia accelerates its digital transformation and strengthens its economy post-pandemic, one sector continues to stand out as a high-potential investment: education franchising. From early childhood development to professional upskilling in areas like artificial intelligence and data science, the landscape is evolving rapidly.
In this article, we’ll explore the top emerging latest franchise opportunities in Indonesia: 2025 edition—a must-read for investors, entrepreneurs, and institutions aiming to make an impact in the learning economy.
Why the Education Franchise Sector Is Growing in Indonesia?
Indonesia is Southeast Asia’s largest economy, home to over 270 million people and a growing middle class. Here's why education franchising is booming:
1. Young Demographic with a Hunger for Skills
Indonesia has a median age of just 30 years, with millions of students and young professionals seeking job-relevant skills. Traditional academic models no longer suffice, and there’s increasing demand for practical, skill-based education.
2. Government Focus on Education Reform
The Indonesian government continues to invest in digital literacy, STEM education, and vocational training, aligning with the national roadmap for Industry 4.0. Franchises that offer modern skillsets are well-positioned to benefit from partnerships and policy support.
3. Surge in Demand for Online and Hybrid Learning Models
The pandemic triggered a digital shift in education, and now blended learning is here to stay. Education franchises that offer hybrid models—a mix of online and classroom sessions—have a competitive edge in both urban and rural markets.
Top Emerging Education Franchise Categories in 2025
Here’s a breakdown of the most promising segments for education franchising in Indonesia this year:
1. AI, Data Science & Tech-Skills Institutes
One of the fastest-growing sectors, this category caters to Indonesia's future workforce needs. AI, machine learning, Python programming, data analytics, and business intelligence are in high demand among professionals and graduates.
Franchise opportunities in this space offer:
Globally recognized certification programs
Real-world project training
Blended learning models
Corporate upskilling solutions
Hot Tip: Brands offering international curricula and industry-driven projects are gaining traction among tech-savvy Indonesian learners.

Have You Got Time?
I apologize for not sending emails last Tuesday. It's getting a little busier than usual here in the MTC! Good thing we have 2 half PDAYS here ( the afternoons of Tuesdays and Thursdays). It's our fifth week of training and it's getting a little closer to the day I will leave my sacred grove and go to the field.
Tumblr media
How have you been since my last email?
Have you read and pondered the scripture verses I sent you?
Have you watched the general conference?
What truths have you learned now, that you can't live without anymore?
Has Heavenly Father answered your prayers or your questions?
You hear a lot from me, and I loved hearing from you. I love reading your testimonies and your scripture verses. Don't hesitate to reply and even if I don't reply right away, I promise you I'm reading them.
I can't physically be beside you but you can read my thoughts and testimony. You can't physically be beside me but I can be strengthened by your testimony as how I hoped you were strengthened by mine. Also, I deeply apologize for people wondering why my emails were in English. It may be a better time to tell you that when I'm serious, I'm better at expressing myself in this language. And I have been very serious about sharing my journey and testimony with you.
Tumblr media
So for the update: Online language classes are doing great. There is still a LOT of room for progress. I memorized the first vision in Bahasa and of course in English. One thing I'd like to testify is that the Gift of Tongues is real. Last Sunday we had RS class. The teacher is the Indonesian sister who understands most English but can't speak english. Being the one learning the language, they asked me to translate her words. I struggled. I didn't do it perfectly, I google translated some new words, and I asked her a lot of times :"Tolong ulang lagi lebih pelan."(Please say it again more slowly) But through the Holy Ghost I was able to translate most of the important things in her testimony.
Tumblr media
Also, It's officially past the one month mark. Time flies so fast. 17 months to go. As written here in my journal, I had done the "pocket talk twice" which is the spiritual talk but impromptu, we just have this topic given to all of us previously. I talked in OBEDIENCE and CONSECRATION. I particularly love the thought that came into my mind during the Consecration pocket talk. It's this quote:
When we were asked what is the our favorite version your mission so far, consecration is my answer. That every day it became like breathing to me to pray and think about Jesus Christ and how I can better serve Him. It almost makes me sad to think that 18 months is the only time can be like that.
According to our teacher sister Ofa, being a missionary is the definition of consecration. Being set apart from the world and just offering all our time, heart, might, mind and strength.
Do not be afraid to offer every talent we have, every skill, knowledge and experiences to the work of the Lord.
Every thought, word and actions must be for the expedient of our Savior Jesus Christ. I am always going to be uplifted by these words.
We ask ourselves who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually who am I not to be? I am a child of God. Dimming my light would not benefit the world. I have to shine the light of Christ to others.
I know that God loves me with a love that satisfies every hunger and thirst; gives rest to any fatigue; calms any fear and heals any ailment. So much so that I want to do this for the rest of my life. I hope that description sheds a little light on how it feels. I testify that no treasures, no fame, no worldly things can match the love and blessings we receive from God.
Tumblr media
We learned all about the money value in Indonesia. We have an idea now how to bargain on markets and not be prey to unfair prices just because we are new to the country.
Tumblr media
We have had the chance to work on the Christ-like attribute: DILIGENCE. And I thought I knew about it but when we focused on it, I learned a lot more. When we always pray to the Lord that we may be given opportunities to be diligent and read in scriptures the examples of diligence, the Lord works wonders to your life. Even though it's a different attribute this week(obedience) I would continue my activities like reading and praying for diligence. I need it in learning the language most.
I hope you find it in your time to work on specific Christ-like attributes every week and see how it changes your life too.
Tumblr media
Because halloween is coming, our service project is to help with the booths in the halloween party for MTC employee's kids. I had a lot of fun. Making these is a break from all studying the whole day but still be doing service to God by serving his children.
Tumblr media
In the past few days my head is almost blowing up with information, because I started to translate some things I have written to bahasa. These are my scripts in the field lol. But my head sometimes overloads so often I take breaks and sing hymns. Because we are not allowed to listen and sing worldly songs, we found ourselves always singing church hymns. When I absentmindedly sing in my free time, bathroom, or on the stairs, it's always church hymns. When I realized that, I felt so proud of myself. That even in my absentminded singing I sing of the Lord.
youtube
This is what we sang last Tuesday. We sang wonderfully and with power like we are given strength and talent while walking with Jesus Christ. I look forward to choir practice every Sunday. These are the titles of the songs we have sung in the past weeks:
Week 1: Faith in Every Footsteps
youtube
Week 2: Sisters in Zion/Army of Helaman
youtube
Week 3: Savior Redeemer of My Soul Medley
youtube
Week 4: I Will Find My Own Sacred Grove
youtube
Week 5: I Will Walk With Jesus
youtube
Now consider my first question at the start of this email. What if it was Jesus Christ that was asking. Have you got time in your busy schedule to remember Him?
Please listen to the links I sent you and while you do, please remember Jesus Christ. Please know also that while you are listening to them, I might be singing or humming them in here. May these songs shorten the distance between you and me and the Lord.
Tumblr media
 Read the Scriptures with me
(2 Nephi 9) It's a long chapter, if you got little time you can read just the verses 20 - 30.
(Verse20) I testify that Heavenly Father knoweth all things. And my knowledge cannot even compare to His. Because of that, I trust the Lord's will, plan and purpose for this life.
(Verse25) I testify that there is a connection to all things. We will never know joy without happiness, we will never know righteousness if we didn't know sin. Understanding this connection makes life and its challenges wonderful. Without understanding these connections makes life without purpose at all.
(Verse30) I testify that the Lord gaveth many blessings to us because He trusts us to help/share to those in need. Pride is a misunderstood sin and humility like the Savior can make us better people. I know that if we treasure our worldly things, these becomes our God. And all of it will perish with us.
I invite you to:
Read this verses:
LUKE 9:24-25
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
Listen to the songs in the link above.
Remember Jesus Christ everyday.
Write 50 things you are grateful for each day until my next email. Note: you cannot repeat what you have already written the previous days.
Let's compare each others list.
Pray to Heavenly Father of the things you are grateful for everyday.
As Jesus Christ loves me, I love you. All missionaries out there, and everyone, lose yourselves to the Lord's work and the Lord will make sure you will find it more blessed.
Saya tahu hal hal ini adalah benar, dalam nama Yesus Kristus, Amin.
