"Since ancient times, back in the days of the old world, in the era of UPR’s birth, impregnable cities were erected—fortress-cities. They were called Garns. They towered high, capturing the imagination of mankind. Built to shelter and protect all of humanity from external enemies. A grand vision it was, yet beyond human wisdom—for the mortal kin soon found themselves cramped within those stone walls.
Stench and overcrowding gave birth to vicious plagues that culled the people, trapped in their own cage. Hundreds of years have passed, yet the Garns still stand—empty and silent. For the treacherous diseases continue to rear their heads from the dark forgotten corners lurking in the depths of the Lower Levels..."
Diseases are a common scourge within the walls of the Garns of UPR. And though humanity has adapted over the centuries, preventing past-scale tragedies, local outbreaks still bring grief to families.
And no matter how much the local people curse the runaways from IPC, they brought with them knowledge and skills—including those in medicine. Not every UPR citizen dares to seek aid from fiends and demons, but the most desperate among them generously feed this relatively new, yet thriving, underground medical trade.
Adventure came to UPR precisely because she believed that, by bringing along certain developments from her previous work, she could establish herself well. And while reality turned out to be far harsher than expected, her business finally flourished after Turbo's arrival—much to the grinding teeth of one maned wolf.
The artwork depicts her main office.

Last day of clinical for the semester! I had the privilege of being in the OR, where I was able to watch a robotic hernia repair! The procedure was almost an hour & a half, skin-to-skin (open to close), & it was such a privilege to be able to observe it ♡ The surgeon was incredible, so skilled with the machine & so thoughtful in how to make the healing easier on the patient as well as use the least amount of materials possible.
Video was up on screens, from which I made my sketches. You can see the interior of the abdomen, with adhesions stuck to the bowel in Image 1. Image 2 shows how the surgeon used the DaVinci robot to cut through adhesions while simultaneously cauterizing the cuts. 3 shows the wound the herbia had been pushing through, & the flap the surgeon created in order to cover up the mesh once her had sewn it over the gap (Image 6). He used this serrated thread (Image 4) to prevent the stitches from slipping as he made them. Image 5 is of the robotic arm inside of the abdomen, through which materials were inserted as well as the tools used to cut & manipulate inside the abdomen.
It was such a wonderful observational experience. I feel so extremely blessed to have had it ♡
