im glad I'm not the only one picky with names, I'm always like "no they wouldn't know what that is" etc with warrior cats. like Dragonfly sounds cool sure, but it's two words in one (it's like a double prefix to me) plus Dragon is something humans made up (unless they're a kittypet then I'm the total opposite and thrilled with the name Dragonfly as a cat)

I feel that with dragonflies! It's so hard with examples like that with no easy alternative name though; what would they call dragonflies instead? 😔

But Honestly?? I don't think it's a bad thing to be picky with names specifically.

Nothing takes me out of xenofiction worldbuilding faster than completely incomprehensible naming schemes!* E.g. a polar bear called Toucan (or an Amazon parrot named Glacier), animals named after cryptids/beings from human mythology they wouldn't know, or wild animals with really common human names: Steve the otter, Margaret the antelope, David the fairy wren... (animals named by humans being an exception).

That's also why I refuse to call any of the Machairodontids "sabertooths" in universe: that's a sword. Even if they could know what a sword was, sabres won't be invented for some ~10,000 years :'D

Lilac only escaped because of the colour! (And in hindsight I would have changed it outright.)

But it's fine because his family had a sort of "named in relation to where/ what was happening around your birth" scheme. Lilac was born in the purple of pre-dawn and probably would have taken the Holdfast name "Lilacdawn" or "Lilacsky" if not for Other Happenings in his first year of life...

*As always, obligatory disclaimer that no one has to listen to me bc I'm not an authority on things. I just personally like when names are based on things the animals in question could feasibly know and comprehend well enough to be named after!

So a few life updates from yours truly <3

1 last time I posted here I was trying to get a job transfer iirc? I got the transfer! I now only work 2/3 days a week, rarely 3. I am off every thursday and usually work Tuesday > Saturday > Sunday > Friday > Tuesday wash rinse repeat!

2 my father had his kidney removed succesfully, just in time for my mother to land herself in the hospital with a really bad UTI and then a bad reaction to dilauded (which she's known for reacting badly too)

3 I am waiting to be on a new narcolepsy medication, which should hopefully be my Key to more motivation and being able to actually do things instead of just... sitting around sleeping all day

4 All the chairs in my home have broken, we're trying to get a couch rn but currently we have a recliner I can't sit in because it broke in such a way you have to sit up straight in it and that's painful for me, and our other recliner totally snapped in half, so I sit on the floor which is really depressing to me for some reason

I can't think of a SINGLE best thing, but here's a handful from the last 12 months.

Switching to a predominantly Marvel/DC blog - honestly one of my best rp choices. Coming back to marvel especially has been a joy and you can thank deadpool and wolverine for that.

Getting to know @ficklefables and getting to write with all their bomb-ass characters, being bad influences on each other about picking up muses and rambling back and forth SO OFTEN. While technically we were writing before, it was around July last year that we actually started being 'talk daily' kinda friends and it's only been up from there. I think I talk to them more frequently than legitimately anyone else.

Managing to drag @compelledcurator into the marvel rp space. Seeing her pick up Lady Deadpool has been just- AMAZING. Never have I known someone to be more perfect for writing a character. I've wanted her to write on tumblr since we were teens and seeing her thrive with this muse especially? Beautiful.

Also tbh just making a bunch of friends here in the Marvel community - @piinkviscera @threegoldfish @templeofvengeance @witchoflegends to name a few that I talk with fairly regularly - even if it's just occasional passing messages. They're all lovely and I'm lucky to have them to write/chat with.

Finding Stryfe as a character and immediately falling in love with that bastard man - this one is both brilliant and awful because god I just want Marvel to give him a chance to be happy. SOBS.

Charlie didn’t want to know about Lute or Adam’s weaknesses or fighting styles, she wanted to know about them as people. She wanted to understand them, to see them as Vaggie saw them.

Telling the Princess of Hell what the Head Exorcist and his Lieutenant were like as soldiers would be an unforgivable betrayal.

Telling Charlie Morningstar what Adam and Lute were like as people might just be a step in the right direction.

If there is one thing I've become sick and tired of seeing when it comes to the res8 fandom it is the constant coddling and infantilization of the four Lords and only ever seeing Miranda as the one great evil.

And sure, she very much plays that role. She broke the Lords with what she did to them, and they could never function normally in a society again but never come over here acting like they are saints and never did a bad thing in their lives!

I see it mostly with Alci and Donna but I've also seen it with Karl and I'm sure Moreau gets some of that treatment as well.

They are all victims of Miranda but they are also not exempt of the horrible shit they did as a part of her rule over the village.
