FANFICTION MASTERPOST
Tumblr media
Hob Adherent Series
(The Sandman, extended Gaiman-verse)
Hob Gadling is a clingy bastard, and he’s not ashamed to admit it. He clings to life. He clings to hope. He clings to his love of humanity. He clings to his Stranger. He also, unfortunately, has a habit of clinging to his name.
Which means that when the BBC is looking for a new pet history expert to appear in their educational docudrama series “Elizabethan Manor,” they’re overjoyed to find a professor who (according to their meticulous research) is actually descended from the Master of the National Trust building they’re filming in - Gadlen House.
Only Hob knows how right they are.

To A Stranger
(Sherlock, Performance in a Leading Role by @madlori)
Here - for the first time - is the screenplay for the unexpected and sizzling hit which swept awards shows; was lauded in Time, Variety, and major publications the world over; snagged a Best Actor Oscar for first-time nominee John Watson; heralded a revolution in LQBTQA+ cinema; and was the catalyst for the incredible romantic journey of two of the greatest actors of our generation.

The Heart of the TARDIS
Rose: Feels to me like a temper tantrum because it can't get it's own way.
The Doctor: It's scared. Come on, you were a kid once.
Rose: Yes, and I know what kids can be like. Right little terrors. I've got cousins. Kids can't have it all their own way. That's part of being a family.
The Doctor: What about trying to understand them?
Rose: Easy for you to say. You don't have kids.
The Doctor: I was a Dad once.
Rose: What did you say?

The Once And Future Kingdom
(Stargate: Atlantis, Merlin)
"I am Prince Arthur of Camelot!" the boy in the chainmail said. For a small, infinitesimal moment, Rodney considered losing it.
"Right, Prince Arthur, the Prince Arthur," Rodney scoffed instead. "And I'm Merlin."
The dark haired boy that stood a few paces behind his golden Prince cleared his throat. "Uh, no," he said, shifting uneasily from foot to foot, "Actually, I am."
Right, of course. Because this totally was Rodney's LIFE.

The Driver
(Agent Carter, Captain America, British Royalty RPF)
“What?” Dum Dum asked, prodding his seatmate in the ribs with his meaty elbow for the umpteenth time. “Seriously, Falsy, what?”
“Squirfle,” the Brit said, or something like it. His face, under the mustache, had turned an amusing shade of puce that was rapidly verging on the alarming.
“Yeah, buddy, I know she’s pretty, but she’s just a dame, ain’t she?” Dum Dum said. He jerked his head at their driver. She was just a short brown-blonde coif from the back, though from his position against the side of the transportation jeep, Dum Dum could make out a smooth, pale cheek, an archly-painted eyebrow, and impeccable red lips.

The Nihongo Series
(Stargate: Atlantis)
In Japan, it is not too much to say that a great deal is about appearances. It is a habit cultivated over a life-time, and not one easy to break.

You wrote PiaLR? I read it back when the show had just barely ended, and its the thing that made me question my homophobic upbringing. I enjoyed the story a lot! But what really cemented it in my memory forever is the fact that it made me start actively trying to unlearn my internalized homophobia. Amazing what a sherlock fanfic can do
You're not the first person to say that to me, and it's one of the best feelings in the world. I really appreciate that!

Thank you so much for tagging me @bohnsky and @duquesademiel to put my messy wip folder out into the world 🩷🩷

Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
(for some of them I only have notes and ideas, others are finished and only have to be proof read and posted, but I'll try to give you what you want 🥰)

Okay, um, I don't really know what to say.... I don't even know it was this bad but somehow the list here just kept growing and growing and it didn't stop. So, yeah, here are all of my current wips, some of them are actually finished and only need to be proof read (or are already and I just have to post them) but I just added them.
I have no clue who has done this already or who wants to do it but i'm no pressure tagging @gaslybottoms @albonoooo @chaesonghwas @your-littlesecret and whoever else might want to do it 🩷🩷.

I think one of the things I love about stories featuring fictional queer celebrities set in the 2010s in the US--I'm specifically talking here about Check Please and Performance in a Leading Role--is that the combination of coming out being possible with coming out being difficult meant that the story couldn't (or, at least, didn't) end with the first kiss or the first love confession or the first sex scene. Because after the couple got together, there was the whole "How secret is this? Who can we tell? How do we keep the relationship alive without tipping people off? Do we want to go public? How and when?" Which objectively is a shitty set of questions to be facing, especially at the beginning of a relationship. Like, homophobia is bad and I don't want to gloss over that. But that situation did something to the narrative in both cases--namely, it forced stories about love to look beyond the first kiss or whatever and show us what a burgeoning, and then a mature, relationship can look like. And I hope we can continue to find ways to tell stories about whole relationships, not just the getting-together phase, even as homophobia lessens and even if it one day isn't much of a factor at all.

Sherlock AU, Performance in a leading Role. Fanfic Classic. @sabsi221b scrapbook
I never thought that a simple attempt to distract myself from my ever ruminating brain and panic attacks would bring me such joy and support coming from you.
Thank you for all your likes and reblogs and kind comments.
This is the beginning of my scrapbook.
It's my Headcanon from @madlori 's Performance in a leading role.
I always imagine pics of Martin and Benedict instead of scenes from the show.
Call it Johnlock AU or Freebatch.
For me it's an addition to my Sherlock world.
Thanks for all your support 🙏 ❤️🙏

What happened with the original novel you were writing that took place in Flagstaff AZ and the man and woman who had gone through a traumatic experience together and then the one just showed up again one day? (I apologize if I am not remembering the storyline). Did you end up publishing it? Is it a project you still plan to do after you finish with PIALR?
Oh my gosh, bless you for remembering "Flagstaff." Yes, I still have that novel. It is my plan to turn to that when I finish with PIALR.

18 and 20!
Thank you for the ask! <3
18. What’s one of your favorite lines you’ve written in a fic?
It's from To a Stranger, which is a fanfic of @madlori's Performance in a Leading Role (Sherlock Hollywood AU) . It's the screenplay of the film John and Sherlock star in, Mark played by John and Ben played by Sherlock. I'm including the rest of the scene for context and bolding my fave.
Benjamin surges up, grabs Mark's head, and tries to kiss him. It is desperate, passionate, a loss of control that is startling to both of them. But Mark gets his hand up between them too fast and Benjamin ends up kissing Mark's palm instead. Benjamin settles for this, sad, and stops fighting to get around Mark's hold. Softly, regretfully, Mark presses his own mouth against the back of his knuckles, as if he could kiss Benjamin through the barrier of flesh, and bone, and responsibility.
20. What’s a favorite title for a fic you’ve written?
Honestly? "Cling Fast".
Generally I give my stories a goofy but descriptive title when I start them, but then change them to something more appropriate before posting. (One day I will tell the tale of how I accidentally forgot to change the title of a chapter I wrote for a book published by Dark Horse, and so was introduced at a major speaking event as the author of "How Fanfiction Made Me Gay." * headdesk *)
I don't remember what goofy title I had on "Cling Fast" to begin with, as the story was originally meant to be just a ficlet (basically just the prologue). But once I'd written that, I was seized with the idea of Hob and the Historical Docudrama, and decided to fold the two stories together.
I wrote the fic description before I dove into the story, because I find having the pitch makes it easier to focus on what the thrust of the narrative will be when Pantsing a story, and when I wrote the phrase "clings to" I had a lightbulb a-ha! moment. I very rarely get those when it comes to titles.

PART 1 - The Tease | PART 2 - Lori Announces It | PART 3 -  How This Screenplay Came To Be | PART 4 - The Fic is Posted | PART 5 - Continuity Questions | PART 6 - the Importance of Fanfic | PART 7 - Nichols Competition Reader Notes | PART 8 - Festival Results | PART 9 - I Got LaLaLanded | PART 10  - Cheeky Update | PART 11 - The Screenplay is Optioned
Hello friends! It’s time for another TO A STRANGER update.
Welcome to PART 12 - Gimmie
I last left the narrative with information that a film director had signed the rights for development on the screenplay, and that his company was working on pre-production in Toronto. That was in August of 2018.
It’s now April 2020, and with all film production halted due to the global pandemic and preventative lock-downs, what little the production company was able to do has ground to a stop.
After a conversation with several other filmmakers, and my agent, I came to the difficult but ultimately freeing decision to invoke the sunset clause on my contract with the director, and sever our ties. He’s a nice dude with some nice ideas, but clearly this thing wasn’t going to be happening under his company or we would have been much further along than “I’m talking to some people” after two years.
The screenplay, IP, and all the rights have been fully returned.
Which is good, because just after I decided to pull the plug on this relationship, my agent reached out with an offer to pitch some stories to a really big player in the media development game. This company is looking for some unpublished novels, short stories, and scripts to turn into audio books or audio dramas.
So, TO A STRANGER has been pitched to this company. Please keep your fingers crossed!
And there’s a big grant available to Canadian artists right now to help creators transfer their thwarted art into a digital format so the audience can still access it. It’s meant for folks whose plays were cancelled, or art shows were pushed back, or for people like me, whose films got shut down. The grant provides both money and mentorship, allowing artists to find ways to transform their in-person thing to a remotely-created-and-shareable-online thing.
I also pitched TO A STRANGER to the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) as an audio drama podcast (professionally performed and produced, of course).
So that’s where it’s all sitting now--just waiting to hear from either of these opportunities. (That’s the joy of being a professional writer... so much of your time is spent waiting to hear back.)
As always, thank you so everyone following along, and for your support and love. I look forward to the next update.
In the meantime, you can still read the fanfiction version here. And if you’re interested in me and what else I’ve written, you can find my novels here.
---
EDIT: I did not get chosen for the grant (apparently they had EIGHT THOUSAND applications), but I’m still waiting to hear from the CBC Podcasting team about whether they’re interested in taking it and funding it from their own budget, as well as from the major media company.
