DR. RATIO IS GONNA RETRACE PATAVIA’s FOOTSTEPS, AND IN DOING SO HE MIGHT ACTUALLY BE THE KEY TO SAVING AMPHOREUS!!!!
Spoilers for 3.3 + some leaks (I think) ANYWAYS IVE BEEN INSANE ABOUT THIS FOR ~A Whole YEAR~ so yeah I’m making a tumblr post on it (cause even if TikTok users have no attention span, I know some people on here can read at least lmao)
For starters- who the fuck is Patavia?? (The love of my life/hj)
Well, she’s an NPC from the Council of Mundanites (which she helped form) that was alive during the Scholars Strife- which was essentially a fight that almost destroyed the Intellgencia Guild due to his members arguing and even battling eachother over how the remaining Scepters from Rubert II’s empire should be divided up and used.
Now, if you played the Amphoreus quest, you’d know that the game revealed that Amphoreus itself is made by one of these scepters- one that somehow managed to escape detection by the rest of the universe, concealing itself in the fabric of space time.
Tumblr media
Back to Patavia, the situation of the Scholar’s strife eventually leads to her discovery of “solitary waves” aka literal manifestations of Nous’s calculations. By following them throughout the universe, Patavia eventually finds something incredibly important- the heart of the Scepter system.
Inside is the throne which Rubert II crowned himself on, and is also the center of the “brain” of the scepter system- basically the main control panel. Anyways, under the watchful eye of Polka Kakamond (who’s presence Patavia is aware of), she gains the opportunity to use THE WHOLE SCEPTER SYSTEM AT ONCE.
…And potentially to no longer be a Mundanite, and to become a Genius (Rubert III).
However, Patavia doesn’t believe she’s worthy of it, and although I haven’t mentioned it; the Mundanite’s core philosophy is the idea that knowledge should be used to benefit and uplift everyone before being used for selfish purposes (like many scholars in the scholars strife did).
Therefore, instead of asking for something new, Patavia wants to understand Nous’s calculations that they’ve already made (which unknowingly saves her life, as Polka Kakamond tries to kill anyone who pushes the boundaries of the Circle of Knowledge in a way that denies Nous’s calculations + advances the Finality).
Tumblr media
She can’t comprehend it, but she does manage to propose the Solitary Waves theory, which Herta solves + causes her rise as a Genius.
This supposed “failure” is something the IG is so ashamed of, they used the History Fictionologists to cover it up, as they believe it proved that the mundane can never become Geniuses, due to how Patavia couldn’t ascend to becoming one despite the full power of the Scepter
Tumblr media
Ironically, this actually saves her life, as the sense of doubt Polka creates prevents her from killing Patavia in the end since she stays within the circle of knowledge. While doing this, Patavia also fries the system in the process (good for her).
Now this is imperative to Amphoreus, as Polka, famous Rubert killer- would probably not approve of Lygus’s actions and how he’s suspiciously Rubert-ing too close to the sun.
Tumblr media
In fact, that might actually be the reason why Amphoreus is hidden- as Lygus knows if Polka finds him, she’ll most likely kill him.
I think Screwllum and Herta are aware of this, as Polka is a firm believer in the Butterfly Effect, as depicted in the “Kill that Butterfly” curio, where even a small action can change everything (and if it relates to Nous, Polka’s gonna stop it).
Tumblr media
When referring to Amphoreus, Screwllum says this:
Tumblr media
-Meaning it’s probably not long before Polka comes knocking. GET HIS ASS QUEEN. KILL THAT FRAUDDD.
TLDR for this section: Lygus is probably gonna get slimed by Polka, Amphoreus is a Scepter and Patavia is a Mundanite that found the heart of the Scepter system, and “failed” to become a Genius while attempting to understand all the knowledge in the universe for the better of everyone.
So, as you’re probably asking: What the hell does this have to do with Dr. Ratio??
And I’ll answer: a lot actually.
_________________
PART TWO MY DOCTOR IS THE BUS DRIVER.
You probably noticed the me mentioning the Mundanites a lot, and that’s for a very important reason; Dr. Ratio is currently the leader of them RIGHT NOW.
Tumblr media
(Aventurine also calls him the “Genius” of them in the 2.1 quest too hehe)
Meaning, if anyone’s going to be retracing her steps/mirroring her arc- it’s gonna be him, especially since they also share the same philosophy. We’ve gotten the other pieces from the Unknowable Domain like the Scepters + a hint at Polka’s involvement + a mention of the solitary waves theory, so it’s only a matter of time before the last part becomes relevant, especially considering that she’s the means where we learn about a lot of these things.
However, this doesn’t exactly point to Ratio saving everyone, even if I believe he will succeed where Patavia “failed” that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s gonna be the key piece in fixing this shit.
Butttt, the 2.1 Cosmodyssey event (which I’ve been tweaking out about for over a year) suggests otherwise 👀
Tumblr media
This is the first mention of Amphoreus ever.
And as you can probably tell- the character Sparkle is playing of the “Divine Mecha” is 1000% Lygus or whatever his “real” identity is.
He invites the Trailblazer to participate in the “show” of Amphoreus, and saying “yes” is when things get interesting.
Tumblr media
He sends a very Ratio-coded woman to help, and if we “win” we get to destroy Amphoreus.
Therefore, freeing everyone from the simulation, and thus saving them? Also, only be improvising well and being true to ourselves does he let us succeed, which is both a very HSR and a very Ratio thing for him to do.
Now, this raises the question- how the hell does Ratio know Lygus?? Sparkle (Lygus) and Lady Greenday (Ratio) are fellow masked fools and presumably friends or at least coworkers, considering Lady Greenday agrees to help Sparkle out with this.
However, based of off everything we know about Ratio and Patavia, he’d probably want to set that motherfucker on fire the moment he steps on screen.
What happens next will only be apparent as time goes on, however I do feel confident in saying Ratio will play a significant role in helping Amphoreus break away from the simulation, even if he may seem like a villain in the process.
I have a few running ideas for what might happen.
Ratio learns of Amphoreus via Screwllum and checking in on the DU again (since we shoved a bunch of Amphoreus’s data in there) + using the power of the scepter, takes that data and finds a way to make it a real place, perhaps by asking the scepter system (like Patavia once did) something new this time- a question like “how do I fix this?” which may or may not end really bad for him depending on how you interpret the “Destruction” part of this
He’s known Lygus all along- in-fact Lygus might have made up based off the Titankin and then ejected him from Amphoreus like March was, except he remembers and is coming back to fix things. I don’t see a possibility where he is friendly with Lygus, but maybe there’s some mind control/coercion going on, who knows?
He shows up but only as a support for Screwllum and Herta, which I’m fine w but damn it would be boring (at least we might get Screwtio crumbs).
Or, a secret 4th thing which is probably what’s really gonna happen.
Anyways thanks for reading, and let me know what you think. I’ve been losing my mind over this for so long and 3.3 is literally making my delusions come true YEAAHHHHH. I can and will elaborate on this I just wanted to get the basic idea out of the way. Amphoreus will get a happy ending.

Ratio would be more narratively interesting, and less like this satirical Danganronpa Ultimate if he had made some kind of secret deal with Nous after being rejected from the genius society. Throwing himself destructively into being a vessel for the god due to the crushing shame of unrealized ambitions? Consider.
HSR truly doesn't know how to write him — is he supposed to be absurd with his 8 PhDs in the context of absurd world building OR are we as the audience falling into this trap by not thinking "Occam's razor, it's not possible for someone even in this worldbuilding context to have 8 PhDs at this age without being a fraud, a demigod (*still possible) or pulling strings"
We still don't know what the deal is with him and Amphoreus, so I guess it remains to be seen. He should have context beyond being inherently amusing because it's genuinely dull. HSR loves their nonsensical Gary Stu characters and while it can work if one leans into it, it feels like they're straddling a midpoint with his writing. The duality of self-devaluing comments from himself (admittedly common for successful mathematicians in published writings — e.g. G.H. Hardy, or Silvanus P. Thompson's constant calling of himself and everyone else "FOOL") juxtaposed next to the lore taking the piss out of his achievements creates this uncanny and unbalanced tone.
It's not deep. I know he was made to make people wank off, spend money, and play the game more often (he literally wears a harness) but that's also not the point. Can you people competently write someone interesting for once? He has a lot of interesting potential to be a real savant in one or two areas, sure, or even just plainly a genius but still with a non deus ex machina solution to his struggles?
It's not just lazy, it's boring, and I think he suffers as a character because of it. Maybe he's satisfying enough to people by toeing the line between parody and genuine, but I think evidently most of his success comes from his visual gimmicks, and dynamic with Aventurine.
Someone confiscate this man's 7 other PhDs or at least give him a really interesting narrative reason for how he even has them. Please. Or don't, whatever, leave the endless fountain of "compelling mediocrity" alone

3.1 Amphoreus thoughts [part 1]
Tumblr media
***Spoilers ahead*** for everything covering the first trial, the fight at the grove and the quick bathhouse scene after, so don’t read any further if you haven’t finished. At the time of writing this I’ve completed the full story quest so be wary if I mention any details that may happen later.
Having us start off with Mydei’s pov and allowing us to use him in a couple fights was so cruel, if only because I spent quite a while getting distracted by his presence and simply admiring his.. everything. His voice actor did such a fabulous job this patch too.
Tumblr media
I think it’s kinda endearing how fond his is of his mother and so ready to defend her at any moment. His father on the other hand, not so much.
Tumblr media
So, it turns out it really was him that Phainon went ahead and “stabbed.” I figured it was during the trail, but the silhouette threw me off a bit so there were times I thought he was maybe just fighting himself instead.
Tumblr media
No harm done however, not because Mydei is immortal or this whole fight is dreamlike, but because Phainon didn’t really hit him.. or Mydei blocked it off to the side. Either way, it’s something I didn’t while watching but yeah, it’s clear that sword didn’t even slice him.
Tumblr media
I know people have their concerns when it comes to Aglaea, but the more plotting we hear of her off to the side, the more I enjoy her. I mean, it’s not entirely bad to believe that Phainon would fail his trail sense it just makes more sense for Mydei to own the coreflame of Strife given his lore.
Tumblr media
On a less serious note, seeing him chat with some of the kids at the bathhouse and sorta scolding them from being away from their parents was cute. Who knew our tough king could be good with kids? This makes the whole situation of the 3.1 banners kinda funny since we got this tall, strong and handsome as heck man running alongside being Tribbie, Yunli & Huohuo, who are all on the smaller side.
Tumblr media
I gotta say that whomever was voicing Mydei’s mother totally nailed it. The anger in her voice was spot on.
Tumblr media
No offense to Castorice, but if I woke up and had literal death staring right back at me, I’d be terrified and probably pass out again right there. But huzzah, the notorious Penacony question makes its return.
Tumblr media
ot gonna lie, but I’m actually quite pleased with Hyacine’s model. I didn’t have any strong opinions from the few teasers we saw of her previously, but she’s real cute in-game. She’s 100% gonna be an Abundance unit though, yeah? There’s no way a nurse could be anything else.
Tumblr media
The amount of hate I see for Mem simply because the thing is pink is wild. I’m starting to enjoy them more and more and I always love catching whenever they’re able to actually speak words.
Tumblr media
I can’t wait to learn more about whatever kind of history there is between Aglaea and Anaxa. We see them interact very briefly towards the end of the patch, where he forgets she’s even around and her thinking of him as an annoying child, so the tension is definitely there. I can only imagine how many times she threatened to end him if she treats Anaxa worse than us.
Tumblr media
Well, too bad! Rules are made to be broken, ANAXA.
Tumblr media
The way they worded this moment of disappointment was funnier to me than I could’ve anticipated.
Tumblr media
It must be because the scholarly type of vibe I get with Dr. Ratio, but I originally thought Anaxa was going to be this self-centered guy, but at least he cares enough to put himself at risk for everyone else at the grove. With the mention of alchemy before and “equivalent exchange” now, I can’t help but think of FMA.
Tumblr media
So we saw this image last patch too but it’s clearer now that Cyrene was killed by the Flame Reaver. It’s fair to assume she was a Chrysos Heir because of the golden blood, yea?
Tumblr media
I know death is Castorice’s whole gimmick and her primary weapon is a scythe, so I wasn’t really expecting some ooze/poison/whatever we’re calling this stuff to appear. If it was shown in a previous trailer, then I don’t remember. Also love how we cycle through all our weapons. We saw the lance earlier while fighting alongside Mydei, we see us pulling out the feather-pen and Mem later on, and now we have our trusty bat back with us.
Tumblr media
The Flame Reaver takes no time sending some powerful slashes our way, knocking everyone back in pain and we somehow manage to get those close to Castorice, even holding her up, without triggering her deadly curse? That’s concerning.
Tumblr media
I’ve seen her combat, I’ve heard about the passive and I know Castorice is gonna be such a broken unit.. but I just don’t have it in me to pull when her banner drops next patch. She just.. doesn’t appeal to me at all? I enjoyed her more this patch than in 3.0, but that’s it. I see all the purple, the butterflies and the scythe and it just makes me miss Seele more, so to heck with meta, I wanna pull for my favorites! (I regret not pulling for her back in 1.4 each and every darn day.)
Tumblr media
I know Cerces was sorta controlling Anaxa here and giving him some extra power to damage the Flame Reaver, but this arrogant smirk is doing something to me. Although Erudition units are probably my favorite, do I really need another wind dps if my E3 Feixiao exists? Who knows.
Tumblr media
I remember last patch they said that Trianne only had enough power to launch a couple more century gates, so you bet I got hella nervous whenever a new one was opened. She really came in clutch to save us though.
Tumblr media
Returning to the holy city and informing people that their relatives perished during the attacks at the grove was rough, but I’m like 95% sure this old man was voiced by the same dude who did Tiernan back in Penacony.
Tumblr media
I like that they do mention the contact we made, but it’s a shame we don’t delve much into how we managed to survive holding death’s favorite daughter in our arms. I suppose there’s plenty time to learn more about this girl next patch when her banner drops. It’s bound to happen again anyway, so long as that one scene of Castorice coming to shield us with open arms in the Nameless Faces trailer actually happens.
Tumblr media
Well, I’m so incredibly glad you had some quiet time to yourself without any life threatening chaos to deal with, Dan Heng.. how about next time you take the lead hm?? I volunteer you to be the protagonist next patch.
Tumblr media
To think they would hold a silly challenge to see who would stay in the hot baths the longest right after returning from Phainon’s failed trial. It’s even better hearing how he claims Mydei only won because the guy is wearing less clothing.
Tumblr media
Sorry to say this but I haven’t a clue on what y’all see with Aventurine and Ratio, but this is a guy pairing that I can get behind. The bickering these two constantly have going on and their endless competitive rivalry is fantastic.
Tumblr media
And we’re gonna stop here for now. I think I’m good for only two more posts. Thankfully this parch seemed shorter than 3.0 and I can get a head start on jotting everything down sooner since I actually took a day off of work. (yes it’s because I was excited for Pokemon Day.)

ヾ(๑╹◡╹)ノ" hi hi feel free to ignore this but with the sudden influx of hsr fanart, I was wondering if you’ve become a fan?
if so, what’s been your favourite part and which characters do you like? or, if you just know from your bf, who are his favourites?
sorry if this is weird, I’m unfortunately a massive hsr fan and seeing the characters in your artstyle is making me a little insane (*/ω\*) if you are still taking requests, could I ask to see Aventurine in your style (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)🙏
Hi!! My boyfriend is the only one who plays hsr but he's always telling me all about the quests and characters (I don't have any means to play unfortunately). I've been a casual fan since the beginning but I never DARED to draw any of the little guys due to how complex they are........until now
I'm still trying to watch some gameplays so I can fully understand the story but my favorites, based on their own lore and personality, are Boothill, Argenti, Rappa, Ratio and Mydei!
Bf's answer:
"Boothill and Anaxa are my top faves right now but I also really really love Huo Huo, The Herta, Mydei, Fugue and Aventurine :] Oh and I love Castorice :( she's so sweet
my favorite part of the story has definitely been amphoreus, I think penacony is extremely aesthetically pleasing and I love the story I just didn't understand it fully 😭 but definitely loved it regardless"
And yes!! Requests are always open, I'm doing all of them little by little so feel free to request more if you'd like!!
I'd love to draw aventurine!!!

I so badly want Ratio lore in Amphoreus. I already have a near-lifelong obsession with Greek/Roman culture (not the mythology but the history itself), but like, the good doctor getting a story? Being a deuteragonist?? Again?! Omg please Hoyoverse
So under the theory that Ratio is from Amphoreus, how would he have escaped/left if the planet has been cut off from the Silver Rail for thousands of years, and the only way you can reach it is through the Garden of Remembrance? And how would it work with Veritas being listed as his home world and offering online classes?
Honestly, I have half an idea.
Until Amphoreus is officially released we can only theorize, but according to Black Swan "Amphoreus is a world that even Akivili has never reached." but that doesn't make it unreachable, especially considering the fact that she suggested the Express lay a track down there. So, if the planet isn't impossible to reach, then by proxy it isn't impossible to leave either.
Black Swan also said that Amphoreus was only visible through the Garden of Recollection, as it's quite hidden from the rest of the cosmos. Which, again, only means it's VISIBLE to the outside planets through the Garden of Recollection, and not that it's completely inaccessible.
Assuming Ratio did his schooling and earned honors while on Amphoreus it's likely he was just allowed to leave (however that may be done) after he stated he wanted to spread knowledge throughout the cosmos. Or, if he attended university on some other planet, it's possible that he was sent for the purpose of pursuing higher education, like an exchange student of sorts.
(Also I'm not entirely sure what you mean by your last question, since Veritas Prime is actually the university that Ratio attended and not the name of his home planet, though I'm aware it's a translation error name-wise.)
