Annie Pierce never really touched Clare’s life. She was a lot older than the other girl and, by the time she came back to Baberton, Annie was missing and Clare joined the local police force as a forensic scientist.

Clare has always wished her sister Lola could be more like her and that hasn’t changed since they were younger. She wants her to be more outgoing and happy instead of seeming like she’s stuck in a bubble of doubt and social awkwardness. Clare loves her sister but she really can’t help but get annoyed sometimes because letting life pass you by isn’t any way to live… and the fact that her sister has decided to be best friends with a girl who Clare feels is nothing but trouble doesn’t help matters. Clare wishes Lola hadn’t moved in with Olivia because she’s worried that the girl is going to get her sister caught up in something like drugs or alcohol… and Clare knows the consequences of things like that.

She never wanted to be a police officer, per se, but she thinks it would be exciting to be out in the field and sometimes she finds herself sneaking out of the lab and having a little poke around in files pertaining to Annie Pierce’s case. There was something about that note that Emma Woods left when she confessed to the murder, something that Clare didn’t quite understand, but she has the feeling that something isn’t right and that Annie’s case is far from being closed for good.

While in Aberdeen, Clare found herself finally getting caught up in the party scene. She fell in with a bad crowd who got her addicted to loud music and alcohol-fuelled nights. She was on the verge of failing all of her exams so she seduced and slept with one of her professors in order to blackmail him to get the grades she needed to pass the course. She wouldn’t be where she is now if she hadn’t done that and she knows that she’s perfectly capable of the work… that that time in her life was just a mistake… but she feels incredibly guilty and is worried somebody will find out. It would ruin her credibility, possibly her life.

Sometimes likes to “play cop”, go out and ask people questions without them really knowing what she’s doing. Clare enjoys digging for information and nobody really suspects her of doing it because she’s not an officer… it’s just something that gives her a thrill, to act like she’s undercover. But she’s careful because she knows she’ll be in trouble if she’s found out.

Found out that her dad had an affair with Olivia Gray’s mother and that the girl she dislikes around Lola so much is actually their half sister. She doesn’t want Lola to find out and has been giving into Olivia’s demands for money to keep it quiet.
