GUARANTEED GOOGLE PAGE 1 RANKING SCAM
Don’t Fall For The “We Guarantee Page 1 Rankings On Google” Scam
Here’s why:
No one can guarantee page one rankings because Google is dynamic, you don’t always get the same result twice and they are always updating their algorithms.
Then factor in keywords and search intent.
It is easy to rank on Google’s page one for noncompetitive keywords with low search volume, which is what some scammers do.
Another way they might scam you in order to guarantee those page one rankings is via Google ads. This is when you pay-per-click and they can set the high bid so you end up on page one until the budget runs out. They can even set the max bid to guarantee you a top-ranking spot, again until the money dries up.
On top of that... https://www.tag-ad.com/guaranteed-google-page-one-rankings-scam/

Project SEKAI 4th anniversary: Brand New Your World - recap post
Tumblr media
Much like last year, I thought it would be useful to make one long post recapping all of the information about the 4th anniversary updates. Even if there won't be as many major updates and changes as last year, we still will be receiving news about other related projects like the movie during the anniversary thanksgiving festival, so I'll be recapping that too.
Note that all of this applies to the JP server only.
Official site link
Tumblr media
Before we start, the next Broadcast Station episode will be held on the 27th, featuring Isobe-san, Jiena, Imai-san, and Daichan. It will be broadcast live from the Thanksgiving Festival. Related event speculation will be done in a separate post, and the stream itself can be found here.
Section 1 - Game Updates
Most game updates will be announced during the aforementioned Broadcast Station stream, but some things have already been announced, such as:
Virtual lives (after lives/holiday lives) will now be held every hour, cutting the long wait times between some showings.
You will now be able to collect character rank XP for an entire unit in one go, rather than going to each member's page individually.
Calendars for songs and events will be released in advance, so we finally will actually know in advance what days songs are being added and what days events will run (though by the sounds of things, event lineups will be kept a secret outside of the unit).
Broadcast Station News
A new game mode has been added, called MYSEKAI. It's an Animal Crossing-esque side game that will be available through the main app. More details on this will be in section 6.
A story completion progress tracker will be added. You can earn crystals and gacha tickets based on your progress
You can now earn gacha tickets through Clearing and Full Comboing songs on different difficulty levels. These can only be claimed on the first time you clear/FC a song of each difficulty from 15 to 37. Autoplay doesn't count and you can earn up to 140 tickets.
All Kizuna ranks will be added! All of them! However, the new ones will not have specific titles or unlockables for levelling up the rank. Instead you will be given a title that says "X & Y Fan". The unlockables will be implemented when relevant.
You can now autoplay during Challenge Show. You will also be able to get CH show rewards up to a score of 2.5 million, as well as increase CH rank up to level 150
Project SEKAI is opening a store on their official website. You will be able to buy gems and get some freebies by using it. You will have to use your apple/google account to sign in. By the sounds of things this will replace the in-game crystal shop
Max character rank has been increased to 160, and as always new titles for max player rank and daily login will be added
As per the norm, character rank missions will be increased
Live bonus has been reworked. You will now be able to recover up to 15 bonus energy naturally (the limit is currently 10), and you will be able to overfill the meter to 999 instead of 99. Bonus energy's effect on event pts will also be reworked, refer to the chart below for the new bonuses
Tumblr media
It will now be easier to obtain another vocal tickets. Their cost has been reduced in the event exchange and wish piece exchange, and two tickets will be given out from character rank and birthday lives. However, to balance this, the cost of a solo alt vocal has been changed to two tickets. The amount of another vocal tickets you own will be adjusted accordingly in the update.
Fes cards will now count as event bonus towards the event they were released alongside. E.g, the Rui and Rin Bloom Fes cards will count as event bonus for the upcoming Nene event.
The rewards earned from completing the tutorial will be increased. Existing users will be compensated accordingly.
You will now be able to exchange limited gacha tickets for wish pieces
All stories will now be fully voiced, even for faceless NPCs. Currently unconfirmed if this will apply retroactively
Starting from October, the number of random rerun limited gachas will decrease to one. This is because they ran out of gachas to rerun.
Birthday gacha reruns have been reworked. Rather than rerunning all past birthday cards separately, they will now be lumped into one gacha.
Kizuna rank for Honami/Mafuyu, Saki/Mizuki, and Haruka/Len implemented
Section 2 - Campaigns
Here's a list of all the campaigns and gachas that will be running over the next few weeks.
Fortune Flower Parade
This campaign will be held from September 30th for one month
You will be able to collect Fortune Flowers and Petals from event exchange, live missions, and stamp missions.
You will be able to exchange those items for some other special items, such as costumes, skill up scores that will instantly max out your skill, Character Rank XP vials, and some special wish jewels (i'm not exactly sure of their purpose but they have a unique design)
There are six different colours of petals and each can be obtained through different methods and be exchanged for different items. Refer to the chart below
Tumblr media
Present 4 You
To celebrate the fourth anniversary, four presents will be given out to players
Present 1: Five 4* guaranteed gacha tickets will be given out to all players. These will also replace the 3* tickets for any new players.
Present 2: All another vocals will be released on youtube for two weeks. You will also receive two another vocal tickets for every character.
Present 3: There will be an in-game survey asking players to pick their three most wanted prizes from a list for the next couple days. The three most picked prizes will be awarded at a later date.
Present 4: There will be a prize giveaway on twitter. For following their twitter and retweeting the campaign post, there's a chance to win some prizes (they're really random like a gopro and a coffee machine lol).
Other campaigns and gachas
Login campaign: Earn up to 5000 gems and 7 10-pull tickets from logging in for a week after the anniversary.
Operation Welcome to SEKAI will run again
Special Prize gacha: a gacha where you can earn prizes the more you pull in it. This will run between the 28th and 30th of September. It will also have doubled 4* rates.
Stamp missions and paid costume gachas as per the usual
Happiness Package gacha
Limited edition select list and memorial select list (same as last year)
Section 3 - Songs
Anniversary Song
The fourth anniversary song has been announced! The title is Neppu and it was produced by kemu! Below is kemu’s comment on the song (via @/pjsekai_eng on Twitter).
Tumblr media
Song Campaign
The song campaign hint sheet has been revealed, and actually has hints again for the first time in a while. The answers will be revealed during broadcast station on the 27th.
Tumblr media
Note: blank tiles include special characters

Connect live
Tumblr media
A connect live to celebrate the fourth anniversary has been announced. It is titled Brilliant Stage and will be held on the 6th of October! There will also be a "meet and greet" session after the two performances of the live, similar to Resonance Beats. A short login story to commemorate the live will be available on October 5th & 6th.
A medley of previously unperformed songs will be performed during this connect live. The songs were given as Aioi, Hug, Hitsuji ga Ippiki, CYBERPUNK DEAD BOY, and I nandesu.
Section 4 - Event and gacha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next event will be Carry These Feelings! Dream Stage, a Nene-focused event. Shiho, Airi, and Toya will be the other rateups! The 3* is Ena based on the event logo. Rui and Rin will be featured as the Bloom Fes cards.
The bfes gacha will be Dream Pick, utilising the same system as last year (you get two extra slots to fill). You will also be able to get Fortune Flowers as a reward for pulling on this gacha.
Tumblr media
As mentioned earlier, there will also be paid costume gachas. You will be able to earn Fortune Flowers from pulling in these gachas. Here's a preview of the costumes.
Section 5 - Project SEKAI: The Movie
youtube
A Project SEKAI movie animated by P.A.WORKS was announced back in July. More information on that can be found here. A new trailer was shown during Broadcast Station, which can be found linked above. Some new character visuals will be posted below, but aside from that, please refer to the linked post which will go into the new information in further detail.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Section 6 - MY SEKAI
youtube
MY SEKAI is a new gameplay feature that will be added during the 4th anniversary. It's an Animal Crossing-esque farming/life sim game that you can play using your Virtual Live avatar. You can build you own SEKAI and house and decorate it however you like! You will also be able to talk to chibi versions of the main characters and interact with them, as well as visit your friends' SEKAIs!
Your MY SEKAI will also have a new feature called the transformation machine! This is where you can exchange some of your excess resources into things that are more useful to you (that's right they finally made the materials exchange).
I do not know how much storage or power this will take to run. I am very sorry for your devices.
Section 7 - Misc News
Tumblr media
A livestream leading up to the 4th anniversary has been scheduled for 29th September at 11:30pm JST (2:30pm UTC). The stream will feature Chiruriin, Honchan, Akina, Daichan, and Ruirui.
Tumblr media
A digest video of the previous Colorful Lives will be shown on Youtube on the 5th of October at 6pm JST (9am UTC). This stream will not be archived, so make sure to catch it!

Google reneged on the monopolistic bargain
Tumblr media
I'm on tour with my new novel The Bezzle! Catch me TONIGHT in SALT LAKE CITY (Feb 21, Weller Book Works) and TOMORROW in SAN DIEGO (Feb 22, Mysterious Galaxy). After that, it's LA, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix and more!
Tumblr media
A funny thing happened on the way to the enshittocene: Google – which astonished the world when it reinvented search, blowing Altavista and Yahoo out of the water with a search tool that seemed magic – suddenly turned into a pile of shit.
Google's search results are terrible. The top of the page is dominated by spam, scams, and ads. A surprising number of those ads are scams. Sometimes, these are high-stakes scams played out by well-resourced adversaries who stand to make a fortune by tricking Google:
https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/phone-numbers-airlines-listed-google-directed-scammers-rcna94766
But often these scams are perpetrated by petty grifters who are making a couple bucks at this. These aren't hyper-resourced, sophisticated attackers. They're the SEO equivalent of script kiddies, and they're running circles around Google:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/02/24/passive-income/#swiss-cheese-security
Google search is empirically worsening. The SEO industry spends every hour that god sends trying to figure out how to sleaze their way to the top of the search results, and even if Google defeats 99% of these attempts, the 1% that squeak through end up dominating the results page for any consequential query:
https://downloads.webis.de/publications/papers/bevendorff_2024a.pdf
Google insists that this isn't true, and if it is true, it's not their fault because the bad guys out there are so numerous, dedicated and inventive that Google can't help but be overwhelmed by them:
https://searchengineland.com/is-google-search-getting-worse-389658
It wasn't supposed to be this way. Google has long maintained that its scale is the only thing that keeps us safe from the scammers and spammers who would otherwise overwhelm any lesser-resourced defender. That's why it was so imperative that they pursue such aggressive growth, buying up hundreds of companies and integrating their products with search so that every mobile device, every ad, every video, every website, had one of Google's tendrils in it.
This is the argument that Google's defenders have put forward in their messaging on the long-overdue antitrust case against Google, where we learned that Google is spending $26b/year to make sure you never try another search engine:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-10-27/google-paid-26-3-billion-to-be-default-search-engine-in-2021
Google, we were told, had achieved such intense scale that the normal laws of commercial and technological physics no longer applied. Take security: it's an iron law that "there is no security in obscurity." A system that is only secure when its adversaries don't understand how it works is not a secure system. As Bruce Schneier says, "anyone can design a security system that they themselves can't break. That doesn't mean it works – just that it works for people stupider than them."
And yet, Google operates one of the world's most consequential security system – The Algorithm (TM) – in total secrecy. We're not allowed to know how Google's ranking system works, what its criteria are, or even when it changes: "If we told you that, the spammers would win."
Well, they kept it a secret, and the spammers won anyway.
A viral post by Housefresh – who review air purifiers – describes how Google's algorithmic failures, which send the worst sites to the top of the heap, have made it impossible for high-quality review sites to compete:
https://housefresh.com/david-vs-digital-goliaths/
You've doubtless encountered these bad review sites. Search for "Best ______ 2024" and the results are a series of near-identical lists, strewn with Amazon affiliate links. Google has endlessly tinkered with its guidelines and algorithmic weights for review sites, and none of it has made a difference. For example, when Google instituted a policy that reviewers should "discuss the benefits and drawbacks of something, based on your own original research," sites that had previously regurgitated the same lists of the same top ten Amazon bestsellers "peppered their pages with references to a ‘rigorous testing process,’ their ‘lab team,’ subject matter experts ‘they collaborated with,’ and complicated methodologies that seem impressive at a cursory look."
But these grandiose claims – like the 67 air purifiers supposedly tested in Better Homes and Gardens's Des Moines lab – result in zero in-depth reviews and no published data. Moreover, these claims to rigorous testing materialized within a few days of Google changing its search ranking and said that high rankings would be reserved for sites that did testing.
Most damning of all is how the Better Homes and Gardens top air purifiers perform in comparison to the – extensively documented – tests performed by Housefresh: "plagued by high-priced and underperforming units, Amazon bestsellers with dubious origins (that also underperform), and even subpar devices from companies that market their products with phrases like ‘the Tesla of air purifiers.’"
One of the top ranked items on BH&G comes from Molekule, a company that filed for bankruptcy after being sued for false advertising. The model BH&G chose was ranked "the worst air purifier tested" by Wirecutter and "not living up to the hype" by Consumer Reports. Either BH&G's rigorous testing process is a fiction that they infused their site with in response to a Google policy change, or BH&G absolutely sucks at rigorous testing.
BH&G's competitors commit the same sins – literally, the exact same sins. Real Simple's reviews list the same photographer and the photos seem to have been taken in the same place. They also list the same person as their "expert." Real Simple has the same corporate parent as BH&G: Dotdash Meredith. As Housefresh shows, there's a lot of Dotdash Meredith review photos that seem to have been taken in the same place, by the same person.
But the competitors of these magazines are no better. Buzzfeed lists 22 air purifiers, including that crapgadget from Molekule. Their "methodology" is to include screenshots of Amazon reviews.
A lot of the top ranked sites for air purifiers are once-great magazines that have been bought and enshittified by private equity giants, like Popular Science, which began as a magazine in 1872 and became a shambling zombie in 2023, after its PE owners North Equity LLC decided its googlejuice was worth more than its integrity and turned it into a metastatic chumbox of shitty affiliate-link SEO-bait. As Housefresh points out, the marketing team that runs PopSci makes a lot of hay out of the 150 years of trust that went into the magazine, but the actual reviews are thin anaecdotes, unbacked by even the pretense of empiricism (oh, and they loooove Molekule).
Some of the biggest, most powerful, most trusted publications in the world have a side-hustle in quietly producing SEO-friendly "10 Best ___________ of 2024" lists: Rolling Stone, Forbes, US News and Report, CNN, New York Magazine, CNN, CNET, Tom's Guide, and more.
Google literally has one job: to detect this kind of thing and crush it. The deal we made with Google was, "You monopolize search and use your monopoly rents to ensure that we never, ever try another search engine. In return, you will somehow distinguish between low-effort, useless nonsense and good information. You promised us that if you got to be the unelected, permanent overlord of all information access, you would 'organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.'"
They broke the deal.
Companies like CNET used to do real, rigorous product reviews. As Housefresh points out, CNET once bought an entire smart home and used it to test products. Then Red Ventures bought CNET and bet that they could sell the house, switch to vibes-based reviewing, and that Google wouldn't even notice. They were right.
https://www.cnet.com/home/smart-home/welcome-to-the-cnet-smart-home/
Google downranks sites that spend money and time on reviews like Housefresh and GearLab, and crams botshittened content mills like BH&G into our eyeballs instead.
In 1558, Thomas Gresham coined (ahem) Gresham's Law: "Bad money drives out good." When counterfeit money circulates in the economy, anyone who gets a dodgy coin spends it as quickly as they can, because the longer you hold it, the greater the likelihood that someone will detect the fraud and the coin will become worthless. Run this system long enough and all the money in circulation is funny money.
An internet run by Google has its own Gresham's Law: bad sites drive out good. It's not just that BH&G can "test" products at a fraction of the cost of Housefresh – through the simple expedient of doing inadequate tests or no tests at all – so they can put a lot more content up that Housefresh. But that alone wouldn't let them drive Housefresh off the front page of Google's search results. For that, BH&G has to mobilize some of their savings from the no test/bad test lab to do real rigorous science: science in defeating Google's security-through-obscurity system, which lets them command the front page despite publishing worse-than-useless nonsense.
Google has lost the spam wars. In response to the plague of botshit clogging Google search results, the company has invested in…making more botshit:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/02/16/tweedledumber/#easily-spooked
Last year, Google did a $70b stock buyback. They also laid off 12,000 staffers (whose salaries could have been funded for 27 years by that stock buyback). They just laid off thousands more employees.
That wasn't the deal. The deal was that Google would get a monopoly, and they would spend their monopoly rents to be so good that you could just click "I'm feeling lucky" and be teleported to the very best response to your query. A company that can't figure out the difference between a scam like Better Homes and Gardens and a rigorous review site like Housefresh should be pouring every spare dime it brings in into fixing this problem. Not buying default search status on every platform so that we never try another search engine: they should be fixing their shit.
When Google admits that it's losing the war to these kack-handed spam-farmers, that's frustrating. When they light $26b/year on fire making sure you don't ever get to try anything else, that's very frustrating. When they vaporize seventy billion dollars on financial engineering and shoot one in ten engineers, that's outrageous.
Google's scale has transcended the laws of business physics: they can sell an ever-degrading product and command an ever-greater share of our economy, even as their incompetence dooms any decent, honest venture to obscurity while providing fertile ground – and endless temptation – for scammers.

so if i am understanding this correctly, the argument is that round about 2019 somebody decided the best way to measure how well google search was doing was by absolute number of queries, and a lot of subsequent changes were made to google that were aimed at increasing that number. which had the effect of making google search suck more, because that meant people had to work harder to find stuff, which increased the amount of absolute searches people were doing. because, you know. it was harder to find stuff.
A day later, Gomes emailed Fox and Thakur an email he intended to send to Raghavan. He led by saying he was “annoyed both personally and on behalf of the search team.” in a long email, he explained how one might increase engagement with Google Search, but specifically added that they could “increase queries quite easily in the short term in user negative ways,” like turning off spell correction, turning off ranking improvements, or placing refinements — effectively labels — all over the page, adding that it was “possible that there are trade offs here between different kinds of user negativity caused by engagement hacking,” and that he was “deeply deeply uncomfortable with this.” He also added that this was the reason he didn’t believe that queries were a good metric to measure search and that the best defense about the weakness of queries was to create “compelling user experiences that make users want to come back.” In the March 2019 core update to search, which happened about a week before the end of the code yellow, was expected to be “one of the largest updates to search in a very long time. Yet when it launched, many found that the update mostly rolled back changes, and traffic was increasing to sites that had previously been suppressed by Google Search’s “Penguin” update from 2012 that specifically targeted spammy search results, as well as those hit by an update from an August 1, 2018, a few months after Gomes became Head of Search. While I’m guessing, the timing of the March 2019 core update, along with the traffic increases to previously-suppressed sites, heavily suggests that Google’s response to the Code Yellow was to roll back changes that were made to maintain the quality of search results.
which seems like a pretty plausible, if stupid, way to fuck up your product!

Akechi's taste in Literature
I've taken an interest in the books Akechi reads. Obviously from the first time you talk with him, you can already tell what he tends to: psychology, philosophy, and mythos. Also, I read at least a little bit from every text. One of my professors out there is proud of me. I hope. So: let's talk about it!
Tumblr media
Ok, but why care? Quick Introduction
No particular reason. I simply want to tinker with his brain. I think it could give us insight on the character! And there's an easy way to dismiss this conversation: Akechi uses books as a way to appear intelligent. I don't think that's wrong per se, but he does express an interest in psychology and philosophy in his third semester Jazz Jin discussions. His thieves den conversations also point to interests in mythos. Use this as a "Annoying Person Bookshelf" if you'd like, I certainly will.
Aristole's De Anima (Mementos Mission - Chapter 3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
De Anima, or "On the Soul" [Leob Classical Library], is an examination of the soul and how it functions within the body. It's pretty dense but easily accessible. On page 15,
"There are times when men show all the symptoms of fear without any cause of fear being present. If this is the case, then clearly the affections of the soul are formulae expressed in matter."
Now, I'm not going to read every book, that would be a huge investment. And unfortunately I am still a university student, so I'll stick to the introduction/first chapters or so. But anyways, to the point of the quote, De Anima tends to get metaphysical. Theory time: Akechi has morbid fascinations with the soul. Not only because he well, kills people, but also messes with the restraints on their heart. I choose this quote because it's a good summary of the kind of body horror someone messing with you in the metaverse is like. It's fear and anger unchained, but it manifests in reality through subway accidents... for example.
Hegel's Dialectics (did Akechi misquote Hegel?) - Rank 1
Tumblr media
Look, almost all of these texts are slogs to get through, so I wouldn't blame Akechi for not catching this. Or not reading the 2017 in-universe equivalent of cliffnotes. Note: Dialectics refers to the structure/strategy that Hegel uses, not a text itself. Looking at the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy we see that Hegel never makes mention of the thesis, antithesis, and synthesis idea. Rather, thesis-antithesis-synthesis is a pattern in his arguments. These are also projected by people reading his text, so we can't fully be sure he's using this to formulate most of his arguments. So not only has Akechi forgotten synthesis, the "unification", but also the fact that Hegel doesn't talk about this. Did he read Hegel? Probably. Did he retain the information? Questionable. Do I blame the writers for making the mistake? mmmm. Maybe. If you're asking me to guess which book he read, I would estimate it was The Phenomenology of Spirit [Google Books]. And yes, I'm going to say it was just because of this quote on page 9 that just, screams Black Mask:
"The force of the mind is only as great as expression; its depth only as, as deep as its power to expand and lose itself when spending and giving out its substance."
Maurice Leblanc's Arsène Lupin vs Sherlock Holmes (Herlock Sholmes) (P5A)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This book I read because my curiosity definitely got the better of me. Since I've gotten into Persona 5 again, I've been DYING to read this one, but never got around to it. I think this one is also interesting to look at based on how it was represented in the anime, a crow escaping a bird cage. I can say that this doesn't happen in the book, but this is why I think Akechi is self inserting on Holmes/Sholmes here. Holmes is much freer as a person in this text than Akechi, but also in a deep rivalry with Lupin. Their banter is also pretty reminiscent of what they [Joker and Akechi] have, but... with older language. Longer quote, so here's an image in its place:
Tumblr media
Edit/Correction: Edogawa Ranpo's Kogoro Akechi Series!
As pointed out by a couple people, we can't leave out this series. (credits to @heavy-metal-papillon) I don't know why my mind blanked and left this out. Because when I was doing research for this post someone had mentioned it. Just by name, it should be obvious why this is here! Here is a part of the preface that explains Kogoro Akechi, Arsene Lupin, and their presence in Edogawa's novels (written by Ho-Ling Wong):
Tumblr media
Literature he makes references but doesn't mention (note: headcanon/my opinion)
John Stuart Mill's On Utilitarianism
Tumblr media
Because Akechi knows how to flirt, he recommends philosophy to Joker. [Early Modern Texts] In my eyes he definitely doesn't agree with this philosophy (in fact some quotes are definitely more aligned with Maruki's philosophy). Page 8:
"That’s because the utilitarian standard is not •the agent’s own greatest happiness but •the greatest amount of happiness altogether; and even if it can be doubted whether a noble character is always happier because of its nobleness, such a character certainly makes other people happier, and the world in general gains immensely from its existence."
Yes, Akechi reads Freud. Freud's essays: Beyond the Pleasure Principle & The Ego Principle
In an offhanded comment about Personas in the Thieves Den to Ryuji, Akechi says:
Tumblr media
I love you Akechi. I will not read Freud for you. My love has limits.
Carl Jung's Two Essays on Analytical Psychology
Okay I'm NOT reading this (a lie, i did. [Internet Archive]) but this was the foundational text on the Jungian Archetype of the Persona as well as addressing concepts such as "the will to power." Going to leave this quote from page 78 for you to munch on:
"Logically, the opposite of love is hate, and of Eros, Phobos (fear); but psychologically it is the will to power. Where love reigns, there is no will to power; and where the will to power is paramount, love is lacking. The one is but the shadow of the other..."
There's a couple things here that point to Akechi reading this, but ultimately I just headcanon that he wants to reason through why Personas exist.
Generally reads about the casts Personas!
Similarly to how Joker can read about the other PTs Personas, Akechi does as well. Well, if his morbid discussion about Captain Kidd in the Thieves Den is an indicator. Does this mean Akechi is familiar with the Carmen stage opera? I think so. Besides, it's also the smartest move. Akechi (head)canonically reads lovecraft.
Conclusion
Akechi really enjoys psychology and philosophy, and while some of it seems like he's doing it for attention/to appear smarter, he DOES continue to show interest in third-semester/thieves den. I still can't forgive him for reading Freud.
The List (of ones directly mentioned here)
De Anima, Aristotle
The Phenomenology of Spirit, Hegel
Arsène Lupin vs Sherlock Holmes, Leblanc
On Utilitarianism, John Stuart Mill
Beyond the Pleasure Principle & The Ego Principle, Freud
Two Essays, Carl Jung
The Fiend with Twenty Faces, Edogawa Ranpo
Other notes and headcanons I can't justify giving sections to:
he probably read that fuckass billiards book
definitely stuff on justice. i was just lazy. Some of these texts do cover these ideas, but definitely not all of them
he likes detective novels. he's probably read a fair share of sherlock holmes.
he probably reads adjacent literature to some of the philosophers mentioned (for example: Nietzsche to Jung, Plato to Aristotle)

Visual Novel Game Recommendations
okay so I've been crazy about visual novels recently and put together a list of games I definitely totally recommend.
Google Drive Link - for ease of access and for any updates if I do that!
DISCLAIMER: Please always DEFER to the warnings and content ratings on the game pages. Please make your own best judgements and do NOT seek out content that will upset you!
These are also not listed in any specific ranking or order, just tried to keep those made by the same devs together!
If a game you like/have worked on is not listed, please don’t take this as a slight. I probably haven’t played it or finished yet! Also, I’m not involved in the creation of any of these games. I just like them :)
Color code key:
RED = NSFW and not safe for minors.
GREEN = Nothing that tips me off as majorly inappropriate at the time of writing this list. Approach with your own judgement and ALWAYS read the trigger and content warnings on the game pages.
♥ = Finished! The amount of ♥s corresponds to the completed routes.
♥ = Demo/incomplete! The amount of ♥s corresponds to the current playable routes.
Blooming Panic ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Chat room based romance game with 4 different routes.
SFW! No sexual or violent content. There is swearing and there are suggestive comments, but there’s nothing graphic or extreme.
Calls are fully voice acted!
Description: Discord inspired chat room with 4 different love interests:
Quest: Mod and unofficial dad, sweetheart who feels pretty strongly about redemption arcs.
Nightowl: Grad student with a cheerful personality and some difficulties managing the intensity of his feelings.
Xyx: Self imposed comic relief who doesn’t know how to be genuine but kind of wants to learn.
NakedToaster: ff14 player.
Tumblr blog: @/robobarbie
SeekL ♥
Another chat room based romance game by the same creators of Blooming Panic. Only 1 route this time.
SFW! No sexual or violent content. There are suggestive comments, drug references, and the main cast are hackers who ARE blackmailing and extorting people.
There is a simple but fun coding mechanic that the characters walk you through! Very intuitive and interesting!
Calls are fully voice acted!
Description: You join a sneaky little chat room with a bunch of hackers who communicate under almost complete anonymity with each other until you show up??
Odxny: Programmer who was prepared to just fade away until you started…caring about him????
Tumblr blog: @/robobarbie
14 Days With You ♥
More typical otome type visual novel with 1 love interest, Ren.
NSFW is toggleable, but as the main love interest is an irrefutable yandere, please avoid if you’re under 18 or uncomfortable with the triggers (find on the Itch.io page)
Not completed but still being updated!
Description: You’re a librarian surrounded by a cast of colorful and unique characters, but one of them is considerably more into you than the rest!
Ren: Yandere who is willing to change everything about himself to better suit your interests.
Tumblr blog: @/14dwy / dev blog is @/cutiesigh
A Date With Death / (steam version) ♥
Another chat room/video chat styled game with only 1 love interest.
SFW, but there is a NSFW DLC in the works/unreleased.
Includes character creation AND minor room decoration!
Description: The grim reaper made this chat room JUST to bother you about why you haven’t died yet!
Grim: He’s literally the grim reaper, believe him, and he’s also??? Babygirl?!?!
Tumblr blog: @/twoandahalfstudios
Favor ♥
Visual Novel with 1 love interest!
NSFW!!! There is sexual and dark content and the dev has warned of increasing triggers as production continues. Please avoid it if you are uncomfortable with the listed triggers and/or under 18.
Includes character creation AND minor room decoration!
Some voice acting!
Currently unfinished but still in production!
Description: Your friends all kind of suck but at least you get to knock back endless drinks with a demon at the end of the day, right?
Z: They’ve seen at least 20 movies and one of them was Cars. Energetic but mysterious, he at least CLAIMS to have your best interests at heart…
Tumblr blog: @/favorvn
Binary Star Hero ♥ ♥ ♥
Visual novel with 3 routes! By the same creator as Favor!
NSFW! Very minimal sexual content, but there is considerable description of gore and violence. Please check triggers and avoid this if you are under 18.
Description: Superheroes and villains exist in this world and you end up stuck dealing with the consequences of that.
Binary Star: The golden boy superhero! He can do everything and you’re only a little unnerved by his glowing red eyes and plastered on smile.
Ray: A regular at your cafe after only 3 days, he’s described as looking (and acting) one minor inconvenience from throwing himself off a bridge.
Hals: Your boss and closest confidant. They’re tough but caring and didn’t plan on getting so attached but now they are, so!
Tumblr blog: @/concreteparasite - dev’s blog, I believe @/favorvn is the main game blog for both?
Mushroom Oasis ♥
Visual novel with 1 route!
Game is SFW but the dev has this rated 16+ due to darker content. The main love interest is technically a yandere, though he’s very wholesome in my opinion! Please check triggers regardless and avoid this if they make you uncomfortable.
Currently unfinished, but still in production!
Description: You wander too far out into the forest in search of your missing cat and end up passing out! Thankfully, a helpful, totally human guy, saves you!
Mychael: The cottagecore love interest of your dreams. He might not know much about the modern world, but he does know how to knit! Shy, well-mannered, and extremely clingy.

i made full "canon" allegiances for the start of rising storm: link to google doc
this is a part of a series im doing where i've made the full allegiances for the first book of every arc in order. now i'm making allegiances for other main series books. these will not be adherent to the changes with the new graphic novels
here is the masterpost for all the allegiances
"canon" is in quotations because a lot of this is guesswork about who logically would be around at that point in time, but aren't listed in the allegiances or mentioned in the book
this is mainly meant to be a resource for fanworks
general stuff that's still the same as last time:
wiki pages are linked to character's names
med cat = cleric
characters are listed by age. where there are no concrete ages, i make my best guess
tc is the only clan without a "kit" rank as all kits born into or taken into the clan have known parents
generally if something like a rank change, a birth, etc happens in the first 1/3 of a book it will make it onto the allegiances. if it happens after, it won't. this is kind of up to discretion and case-by-case, especially for books that take over a very short period of time or a very long period of time
like last time, there's a lot of decisions to be made about prequel cats who just stop showing up. i'll be providing insight into why i believe that they're still around or not. check the previous tpb allegiances for more insights
there are quite a few contraindications regarding tigerclaw's fury, mainly concerning shadowclan. for why i have things listed the way i do, generally i will prioritize information from the main series, then super editions, then novellas, then extra sources
thunderclan
frostfur and brindleface - there are, like, minor scenes for both of them in this book where they declare that they are moving back to the warriors den but in the allegiances they are never moved back to the warriors section. i've done that
speckletail - snowkit is her only listed kit. i imagine that mistlekit has died by this point
willowpelt - moved to the queen rank and expecting kits
shadowclan
stumpytail - tigerclaw's fury establishes him as one of the shadowclan exiles, but he is one of the cats who attacks thunderclan in fire and ice. he is likely still in the clan
volewhisper - needs to die before blackfoot returns to shadowclan, as blackfoot is unaware that he survived
littlecloud and whitethroat - likely have not left shadowclan yet
applefur the first - disappears after tigerclaw's fury
brownpaw - he is in the forest of secrets and rising storm allegiances, but not in the tigerclaw's fury or a dangerous path allegiances. he also doesn't show up in tigerclaw's fury. he likely dies before tigerclaw shows up to shadowclan
oakpaw/oakfur - becomes a warrior by the next book
ashheart - her kits are purely missing kits semicanon and she does not show up in tigerclaw's fury. they are just here in case you need more bodies for carrion sickness fodder (the kits' missing kits cause of death) and all will be gone next allegiances. i did not have her as "expecting kits" in the last allegiances bc the length of time in forest of secrets is fully long enough for a cat to conceive and give birth during the book
rowankit, cedarkit, lavenderkit - rowankit is apprenticed to jaggedtooth (snag) in tigerclaw's fury, so he and his brother become apprentices soon. lavenderkit is a missing kit cat and dies of carrion sickness per missing kits
tallpoppy - throughout tigerclaw's fury she and other characters constantly mention how old she is? which is just untrue. she wasn't in yellowfang's secret and doesn't die until the great battle. she's probably super young
tigerclaw's nine lives ceremony - this was recently updated to show many of the disappeared shadowclan elders in starclan instead of cinderfur, tallpoppy (lives for many arcs), darkflower, and dawncloud (seen alive and well practically just pages before)
riverclan
rippleclaw and emberdawn - they disappear after nightstar's first gathering as a leader in fire and ice, so i've gotten rid of them. they had a whole winter to die of whatever. if they end up showing up in some other material during this time period i might add them back in but there is just generally a lot of prequel cat bloat in riverclan
mistyfoot and her kits - really, her kits are fully old enough to be apprenticed (they are older than cloudpaw) but they are specifically mentioned to be playing with featherkit and stormkit as kits themselves in leopardstar's honor. mistyfoot is also listed as a queen in both the rising storm and tigerclaw's fury allegiances, and they are the same age as gorsepaw, who is not apprenticed until late in the book
greenflower - disappears after forest of secrets and is replaced with mosspelt. per missing kits, her kits were stillborn and she died of greencough
tanglewhisker and birdsong - both likely died around the time of the flood last book
ivykit (ivytail) - unnamed kits are born early on in this book in riverclan to an unspecified cat. there aren't any new apprentices in the next two books, or any unaccounted for young warriors that show up in arc 2. ivytail is a riverclan elder who randomly shows up in twilight (her only appearance). i used to have her as a warrior in into the wild and beyond, but leopardstar's honor is, honestly, pretty good at at least mentioning its giant cast of grown warrior characters. her being one of the kits born here would make her around 3 years old by the time she is retired in twilight, but when has young age stopped a riverclanner from retiring? i think that keeping her as a warrior during this arc is also super valid, though riverclan is just overbloated with warriors from the prequels. swallowtail (rc) could also work as one of these unnamed kits but she is noted to be younger than mothwing and hawkfrost, who's parents haven't even met yet. there are plenty of she-cats in riverclan available to be these kits' mother
windclan
runningbrook - now a warrior
whitepaw/whitetail - becomes a warrior sometime during this book so that onewhisker can mentor gorsepaw
tawnypaw/tawnyfur - she is now an apprentice. she becomes a warrior by next book
gorsekit/gorsepaw - should be an apprentice by now, but he canonically does not become one until later on in the book, and onewhisker is still mentoring whitepaw
crowfur - he doesn't show up again after his singular scene in a forest of secrets. he is gone from the allegiances but he could still believably be around
unnamed kits are born later on in this book to an unspecified cat. unlike riverclan, there are young cats who just show up as warriors in arc 2. robinwing (wc), gorsetail the first, and also nightcloud. i will likely be chooseing robinwing and gorsetail as i imagine nightcloud to be a little younger, or just robinwing as there is gorsepaw (son of morningflower) this arc and having both a gorsepaw and a gorsekit might be confusing. there are approximately 6 she-cats in windclan at this point (depending on when you think sorrelshine rejoins the clan), two of them being apprentices at the start of this book, so mother choices are limited
cats outside clans
shadowclan exiles renamed to tigerclaw's group as that is probably more accurate at this point. they don't rejoin shadowclan until a little bit into the book
since cloudpaw is an apprentice, his siblings have been given their own cells

Kickstart Your Earnings with Content Writing: A Beginner’s Friendly Roadmap
If you’ve ever wondered how ordinary people turn their words into cash, content writing might be your sweet spot. You don’t need a fancy degree or decades of experience to get started. With some guidance, dedication, and a dash of creativity, you can start earning from content writing sooner than you think. This guide walks you through each step in a friendly, down‑to‑earth way so you’ll feel confident launching your freelance writing journey.
Tumblr media
Why Content Writing Is a Great Starting Point Content writing covers everything from blog posts and web pages to social media captions and product descriptions. Businesses of all sizes need fresh, engaging words to connect with their audience, rank higher in search engines, and boost sales. As companies continue to invest in digital marketing, demand for quality content writers stays strong. Plus, you can work from anywhere, set your own hours, and choose projects that spark your interest.
Understanding the Basics of Earning from Content Writing At its core, earning from content writing means providing value through written words. Clients pay for:
Research that saves them time
SEO‑friendly copy that boosts visibility
Clear, engaging storytelling that connects with readers
Consistent output that maintains an active online presence
Your job is to become the go‑to person who delivers those benefits reliably.
Step 1: Identify Your Niche and Strengths While generalists can find work, specializing helps you stand out. Consider topics you enjoy or know well—travel, personal finance, health and wellness, tech, lifestyle, parenting, gaming, or education. Having a niche makes it easier to showcase your expertise and justify higher rates. If you’re a fitness buff who loves writing, focus on blogs and articles in that sphere. If you have a background in software, aim for tech how‑to guides.
Step 2: Build a Portfolio That Shows Your Skills Clients want proof you can write well. Even if you haven’t been paid yet, you can create sample pieces:
Start a personal blog or Medium page and publish 3 to 5 high‑quality articles in your niche.
Guest post on small blogs that accept submissions.
Rewrite or summarize existing news stories in your voice (clearly marked as samples).
Draft mock project pieces for imaginary clients—product descriptions, newsletters, or landing pages.
Organize these in a simple online portfolio. You can use free tools like Google Sites, Wix, or WordPress. Make sure each sample highlights your SEO skills by including relevant keywords naturally in titles and subheadings.
Step 3: Optimize Your Online Profiles for Visibility Next, set up profiles on freelance platforms and job boards. Popular destinations include Upwork, Fiverr, Freelancer, ProBlogger, Contena, and LinkedIn. When crafting your profile:
Write an engaging headline that includes “content writer” or “freelance writer.”
Summarize your background, niche focus, and any standout achievements.
List your portfolio samples or link directly to your site.
Add relevant skills: SEO, WordPress, SEMrush, Mailchimp, social media management, etc.
Request testimonials from friends or colleagues who can vouch for your work ethic or writing ability.
A well‑optimized profile boosts your chances of appearing in client searches and winning invitations.
Step 4: Find Your First Paid Gigs Landing that first paid project often takes persistence. Strategies that work:
Pitch directly to small businesses or local startups. Send personalized emails offering a free trial article or website audit.
Apply to relevant listings daily on freelance boards. Tailor each proposal to the client’s needs—mention specifics from their job post.
Explore niche‑specific boards like BloggingPro or JournalismJobs for targeted opportunities.
Network on LinkedIn by sharing helpful writing tips, engaging with posts in your niche, and connecting with marketing professionals.
Early on, you might accept lower‑priced gigs to build credibility, but avoid underpricing yourself. Aim for a rate you can increase once you’ve racked up 5 to 10 positive reviews.
Step 5: Master SEO and Content Strategy SEO savvy writers command better fees. Search Engine Optimization involves understanding how keywords, user intent, and readability affect rankings. To shine:
Use free keyword research tools like Google Keyword Planner or Ubersuggest to identify target phrases.
Incorporate primary keywords in titles, opening paragraphs, subheadings, and naturally throughout the text.
Keep sentences concise, break up text with subheadings, and add bullet lists or numbered steps for scannability.
Learn basic on‑page SEO: meta descriptions, internal linking, image alt text, and proper URL structure.
Businesses pay for measurable results. If your copy ranks higher and drives traffic, you become more valuable.
Step 6: Set Competitive Rates and Payment Terms Knowing how much to charge can feel tricky. Common approaches include:
Per‑word rate: New freelance writers often start at five to ten cents per word, moving up to twenty cents or more with experience.
Per‑hour rate: Beginners might charge twenty to thirty dollars per hour, progressing to fifty and beyond as skills sharpen.
Per‑project fee: Flat rates for complete blog posts or web pages, factoring in research, revisions, and strategy.
Always agree on payment milestones. A 50/50 split works—half up front, half on completion. Use contracts to outline deliverables, deadlines, and revision policies. This keeps both sides on the same page.
Step 7: Deliver Quality and Build Long‑Term Relationships Repeat clients are freelancing gold. To keep clients coming back:
Meet deadlines without reminders.
Communicate clearly—let them know if you hit a roadblock and propose solutions.
Offer a revision round to refine the piece to their liking.
Suggest topic ideas for future posts based on emerging trends in their industry.
When clients see you consistently add value, they’ll hire you again and refer you to others.
Step 8: Leverage Tools and Continuous Learning Stay competitive by embracing helpful platforms:
Grammarly or ProWritingAid to polish grammar and tone.
Yoast or Rank Math (for WordPress) to fine‑tune on‑page SEO.
Trello or Asana for managing multiple projects smoothly.
Google Analytics basics to understand content performance.
Invest time in online courses or webinars on SEO, storytelling, and copywriting. The more you learn, the more you can charge.
Step 9: Scale Your Earnings Over Time Once you’ve established a steady stream of projects, scaling becomes the name of the game. Options include:
Raising your rates for new clients while maintaining current engagements.
Packaging content services—offer blog writing plus email newsletters or social media management as a bundle.
Outsourcing parts of the work, like research or editing, to junior writers, allowing you to focus on strategy and client relations.
Creating digital products, such as eBooks or courses on content writing, to earn passive income.
Diversifying revenue streams helps insulate your income from slow periods.
Putting It All Together Earning from content writing is an achievable goal, even if you’re starting from scratch. By identifying your niche, building an impressive portfolio, mastering SEO, and delivering top‑notch work, you’ll attract clients eager to pay for your expertise. Remember that patience and persistence pay off. Treat every project as a chance to improve your craft and delight a client. Before you know it, you’ll have a thriving freelance writing business that fits your lifestyle and fuels your creative passions.

I thought I'd put together a little guide on the Gintama X Kuroko no Basket collaboration in the mobile game, Kuroko no Basuke Street Rivals!
Tumblr media
I will note that I do rely on Google Translate to translate some of the images on here, so please excuse some inaccuracies
1. Login Bonus
Tumblr media
This is your standard log in bonus section. Logging in for 10 days will get you free rewards! The first time you log in will net you a free Gintoki! Other notable rewards include Gintama related icons and banners! If my memory serves me correctly, you don't need to log in and claim rewards for 10 consecutive days. Just logging in ONCE during the event will be enough. Even if you don't log into the game, after a day passes, you'll still be eligible to claim the next reward. So just be sure to log in 10 days after your initial log in to claim the rewards.

Tumblr media
This is a board-game section where you roll a dice to advance your Justaway around the board! You get 2 free dice everyday. There are 3 different special spaces you can land on:
the ? spaces grants you a random reward (usually level up materials) the ones with the numbers will advance you forward that many steps, the golden spaces grants you the event currency.
Passing the start will net you additional rewards, which change how many times you have passed start before.
5. Gintama Training
Tumblr media
When you unlock a certain character, you'll receive some trial missions you can complete with them. Complete those to unlock the rewards on this page!
6. Unlocking Kagura
If you don't have Kagura, this button sends you to the gacha to try and unlock her. If you DO have her, you'll be shown her special missions to unlock some level up materials for her!
7. Gintoki's Trial Missions
Tumblr media
Same thing as before. If you don't have Gintoki, it will send you to where you can unlock him. If you DO have him, you'll be shown his trial missions. Alot of these missions can be completed by leveling him up and playing with him in Ranked matches.
I translated some up there, and as you can see, you have to clear all the trial missions on one page to unlock the next page. However, you CAN complete missions you HAVEN'T unlocked yet, you just can't claim the rewards until you unlock them.
8. Cumulative Charge
Tumblr media
This menu is just giving you extra rewards based on how much Yen you spend while the event is active.
But yeah! That's more or less the gist of the event! In case anyone was already playing and just needed a quick reference, or if anyone just started and needed some help, I hope this guide was useful!

Replicant Memories
Replicant Memories, Orusha Grangette, 2021
Cyberpunk games typically focus on violence, power, corporate greed, and cynicism. Cyberpunk literature, on the other hand, deals with themes of alienation, virtual vs. analogue reality, the effects of technology on society, and the meaning and worth (or lack thereof) of humanity as a concept. Replicant Memories isn't so much a cyberpunk game as a cyberpunk literature game.
Your character in Replicant Memories (RM, or a monospaced lowercase rm as the game always writes it) is defined by their actual memories. It's a Fate Core variant, using the memories as Aspects or as justification for Stunts and Skill ratings. Since characters in Fate Core have 10 Skills each and a few more Stunts, that's a fair number of memories to write, but so far this is relatively normal stuff.
However, this being cyberpunk, those memories might be implanted. During game play you will discover your "real" memories, which themselves might just be a cover over deeper truths. Any effectiveness of a previous high-ranked Skill was just luck; a Stunt was just a moment of adrenaline or a flash of insight. You can switch one memory out for another every time you take Stress (for memories connected to level 1-2 skills) or Consequences (1-4 and stunts). You need a brief (brief) flashback each time.
The usual Fate mechanics take up about half the book; the other half is setting. Specifically, it's organizations, each with a two-page spread, each with descriptions of how your characters can hook into them and what you might have done for them. Sometimes it's a tight-knit neighborhood described in loving detail; sometimes it's a franchised nation done in broad strokes. The goal is pick-and-choose, but they're arranged alphabetically rather than by type, so the game's not doing itself any favors there.
Were it not for the timing of the book's release I would accuse the art of being AI, but all the work was done just before that really became feasible. It's eerie. It's creepy and disconcerting. It has all the flash and grit you normally expect in near-future city scenes, but it's off, and not in the way that The Actual was off. I have trouble believing that it's intentional, and also trouble believing it's unintentional.
There's a single supplement, entitled "rm -rf", which provides a trio of scenarios for the GM to use. One is high-class, one is low-class, and one is "runner"-level, with the potential for any of them to switch between levels as your group discovers more about their "real" selves. They're all intended to be 1-3 session games, and the plot flies by fairly quickly. Given the game's lack of character advancement and the potential for everyone to switch their skills to the same thing at the same time, that's probably for the best.
Orusha Grangette (not real name) maintains Replicant Memories as a wiki. They keep changing providers, so I have no idea where it is now, and Google searches mostly get you older sites. At least you can toss them into the Wayback Machine.
