Album Number Four Hundred Sixty Seven “Free at Last” is the fifth studio album by the English rock band Free. It was recorded between Jan. and Mar. 1972, and released in May that year. After breaking up in April 1971 due to differences between singer #paulrodgers and bassist #andyfraser the band had reformed in January 1972. My copy is on #aandmrecords - SP 4349. All members of the band made a concerted effort to work smoothly and efficiently for guitarist #paulkossoff ‘s sake as he was suffering due to an addiction to Mandrax (Quaaludes). For example, in a symbolic gesture all tracks were credited to every member of the band regardless of who actually wrote them. During the period in late 1971 where the band had split, Kossoff and #simonkirke had formed a new band with Japanese bassist #tetsuyamauchi and keyboard player #johnrabbitbundrick ; Kirke asked them to join the Free tour in place of Fraser. This week:

Drummer Simon Kirke kept the beat for two of the '70s most popular bluesy hard rockers: Free and Bad Company. 

Kirke landed a gig with a group called the Black Cat Bones. He befriended the group's guitarist, Paul Kossoff who convinced him to start a new band with singer Paul Rodgers and ex-John Mayall's Bluesbreakers bassist Andy Fraser. This band became “Free” in 1968. 

The group would prove to be successful particularly on the strength of their classic 1970 release “Fire and Water” and its anthemic hit single "All Right Now"

“Free” broke up in 1973. From “Free” rose “Bad Company” Simon and Paul Rodgers were joined by ex-King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell and ex-Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs.

As well as his work with Bad Company, he guested on a long list of recordings by other artists, including albums by Wilson Pickett, Jim Capaldi, Ringo Starr and Ron Wood, among countless others.

He was often drumming live on tour with acts like Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Ringo Starr & His All-Star Band. 

In 2003, Simon went out on his very first solo tour and released his debut solo album.

FREE Free. 1969 first UK issue 9-track stereo LP on the smooth pink Island label with white 'i' logo & 'Bell Sound' engraved in the run-out, matte gatefold picture sleeve. The sleeve displays some minor general wear with some edge & corner scuffing, with all text legible including along the spine. The labels have a couple of spindle marks to show for being played, whilst the heavyweight vinyl remains in a really nice condition with only light signs of surface marks. Album Number Four Hundred Sixty Eight. “Heartbreaker” is the sixth and final studio album by the English rock band #free #freeband , that provided them with one of their most successful singles, "Wishing Well". It was recorded in late 1972 after bassist #andyfraser had left the band and while guitarist #paulkossoff was ailing from an addiction to Mandrax (#quaaludes ) and features a different line up from previous albums. #tetsuyamauchi was brought in to replace Fraser, while #johnrabbitbundrick became the band's keyboard player to compensate for the increasingly unreliable Kossoff (singer #paulrodgers played keyboards on the previous album 1972 Free at Last). Both Yamauchi and Bundrick had played with Kossoff and drummer #simonkirke on the album Kossoff, Kirke, Tetsu & Rabbit during that period in late 1971 when Free had broken up for the first time. Also, several other musicians were used on the album. The album was co-produced by #andyjohns as well as Free themselves. My copy is on #islandrecords - SW 9324 The album was, by Free's standards, a huge success. It became their third top-ten album in the UK (reaching #9), and reached No. 47 in America, which was also a considerable success for the band. Also, the single release "#wishingwell " became their third-most successful single, reaching No. 7. It is widely regarded as one of their definitive songs. Despite the success of the album and impending tour of America, it finally became apparent that the band had passed the point of no return.
