Album Number Four Hundred Sixty Seven “Free at Last” is the fifth studio album by the English rock band Free. It was recorded between Jan. and Mar. 1972, and released in May that year. After breaking up in April 1971 due to differences between singer #paulrodgers and bassist #andyfraser the band had reformed in January 1972. My copy is on #aandmrecords - SP 4349. All members of the band made a concerted effort to work smoothly and efficiently for guitarist #paulkossoff ‘s sake as he was suffering due to an addiction to Mandrax (Quaaludes). For example, in a symbolic gesture all tracks were credited to every member of the band regardless of who actually wrote them. During the period in late 1971 where the band had split, Kossoff and #simonkirke had formed a new band with Japanese bassist #tetsuyamauchi and keyboard player #johnrabbitbundrick ; Kirke asked them to join the Free tour in place of Fraser. This song was written in 10 minutes after Free played a disappointing gig and felt they needed a big rocking anthem to close the set, with Andy Fraser and Paul Rodgers in the dressing room. This became a solid global hit for the band on #chrisblackwell ‘s #islandrecords . This was such a great British Rock band. I love how this album features #fireandwater from a live BBC Recording. You Brits are so lucky to have The ‘B’ this record is so good with #wishingwell #thestealer . I had the brilliant experience of seeing this great band support both #jeffbeck and #steviewonder . Andrew McLan “Andy” Fraser (3 July 1952 – 16 March 2015) was an #songwriter and #bass #guitarist whose career lasted over forty years and includes a notable period as one of the founding members of the rock band Free in 1968, at age 15.

Fraser produced and co-wrote the song “All Right Now” with Rodgers, a #1 hit in over 20 territories and recognised by ASCAP in 1990 for garnering over 1,000,000 radio plays in the United States by late 1989. In October 2006 a BMI London Million-Air Award was given to Rodgers and Fraser to mark over 3 million radio and television plays of “All Right Now”.[1] Simon Kirke later recalled: “All Right Now was created after a bad gig in Durham. We finished our show and walked off the stage to the sound of our own footsteps. The applause had died before I had even left the drum riser. It was obvious that we needed a rocker to close our shows. All of a sudden the inspiration struck Fraser and he started bopping around singing All Right Now. He sat down and wrote it right there in the dressing room. It couldn’t have taken more than ten minutes.”[2]

Album Number Four Hundred Sixty Eight. “Heartbreaker” is the sixth and final studio album by the English rock band #free #freeband , that provided them with one of their most successful singles, "Wishing Well". It was recorded in late 1972 after bassist #andyfraser had left the band and while guitarist #paulkossoff was ailing from an addiction to Mandrax (#quaaludes ) and features a different line up from previous albums. #tetsuyamauchi was brought in to replace Fraser, while #johnrabbitbundrick became the band's keyboard player to compensate for the increasingly unreliable Kossoff (singer #paulrodgers played keyboards on the previous album 1972 Free at Last). Both Yamauchi and Bundrick had played with Kossoff and drummer #simonkirke on the album Kossoff, Kirke, Tetsu & Rabbit during that period in late 1971 when Free had broken up for the first time. Also, several other musicians were used on the album. The album was co-produced by #andyjohns as well as Free themselves. My copy is on #islandrecords - SW 9324 The album was, by Free's standards, a huge success. It became their third top-ten album in the UK (reaching #9), and reached No. 47 in America, which was also a considerable success for the band. Also, the single release "#wishingwell " became their third-most successful single, reaching No. 7. It is widely regarded as one of their definitive songs. Despite the success of the album and impending tour of America, it finally became apparent that the band had passed the point of no return. Album Number Four Hundred Sixty Four. “Free” is the eponymous second studio album by this English rock band, recorded and released in 1969. The band had spent time touring their debut album Tons of Sobs (1969) the previous year, and there is a marked difference in the musicianship of the band as well as #paulrodgers 's voice. Both albums were released by #islandrecords , with #freealbum being produced by #chrisblackwell , the head of Island, taking over from #guystevens , who produced the first album. My copy is a reissue on #aandmrecords - SP 4204 (the U.S. release) The album is notable for having innovative artwork from #ronraffaelli of The Visual Thing Inc. It is featured in the book 100 Best Album Covers. Raffaelli made the cover by photographing his model with strobe lights to make a silhouette of her against a background, on which he could then overlay the design. Hence, the album has a design of a woman made of stars leaping across the sky.
