THE HISTORY OF CANTERVILLE

Maybe it's because I'm a Doubting Thomas*, but I try not to take Timjimmy Auxberon's stories about Canterville, Connecticut, at face value.

Much of my research into the history of that village on the Connecticut Notch is based on this book by Stuart Ennix, who was the Professor of History at Sothern's Quinnetukut University. (SQU is a community college with delusions of grandeur.)

Professor Ennix is a Professor Emeritus now and the Ennix Annex on campus has been named after him.

This first picture is a first edition of the book, published in 1977. This is a very rare copy, as only 200 copies were printed before the cover mistake was noticed. Luckily, the bookseller didn't realize what a treasure he had, so I got it for a song. (Literally, I had to surrender a prized possession - the handwritten score and lyrics of "Pico and Sepulveda" by Eddie Maxwell and Jule Styne.)

I never open that first edition of the book; I keep it locked away for its preservation. The second picture is the trade paperback which came out during the height of the COVID Pandemic and didn't garner any attention because of that. One bonus is that it has been updated to include 40 years of Canterville's history from 1977 to 2017.
