TES Secret Santa
I got @aquicat ! The collection of characters you gave was very interesting, I chose two of them because they're in a strangely similar situation after their respective questlines.
I hope you enjoy it! It's a bit long, but I've taken your "no such thing as too overdone" to heart. Happy holidays!
~
Imperial victory.
The bards had already spun songs of it. The cruel, grasping Bear trampled by the courageous Wolf. Solitude ascendant. Unity prevailing.
The moot had gathered within days of Ulfric Stormcloak’s death. The Jagged Crown had been placed on Elisif’s head.
Not mine, she remembered thinking as the dragon bone had weighed down her brow. The head of Torygg’s widow. They didn't let her forget that– and she didn't wish to. That was all that remained of him.
What of it? Even that had been lauded. She had become the lone Wolf– fierce in her grief. Everything was a sign of legitimacy.
Everything but her own thoughts. Everything but the frowns when she tried to speak to the people she now ruled.
~
The High Queen's retinue had settled into Winterhold, the third stop in their tour of the province.
Not province. Say “holds”. Say “Skyrim”. She remembered her steward's corrections to the proposed announcement. “We must not forget what tore us in half.”
He was right, of course; as he always was. And as always, she would never have noticed the point.
It was difficult to breathe. The rooms in Winterhold were stuffy– lined with hay, built at sharp angles, well-suited to shelter from the cold winds blowing outside. But she wasn't used to them.
The council with her courtiers had been stifling, as had the dinner, as did this room. She threw open the windows, feeling only relief as the snowy breeze stung her face. Taking a few gasping breaths, she sighed and let her gaze wander over the white, dilapidated scene.
The windows were long and wide, ready to let in sunlight whenever it shone. Yet, in the twilight, it only gave a bleaker view of the once-great city. The destruction the Great Collapse had wrought still lay visible, half-sunken houses and stables far outnumbering the ones still standing and lighted; and the battle fought for the city, just weeks ago, had added fresh stains onto the landscape.
It made her shudder-- what could her grand welcomes and dinners do to help all this? In Solitude, it had at least been familiar ground; here...
Stricken by a sudden impulse, she wrapped her woollen cloak around herself, and narrowing her eyes against the rising wind, ascertained how thickly the snow had blanketed the ground.
It was enough– with a silent, graceful jump, the High Queen of Skyrim leapt from the tall window and landed (rather less gracefully) on the accumulated snow.
The cold was not so bad after all– or perhaps it was just the rush of excitement. She giggled as she stood up, stamping her feet in glee as she walked away from the Longhouse.
Winterhold's guards were on duty, of course– but they weren't on the lookout for anyone leaving the Longhouse. She snuck around them, feeling a growing sense of freedom that threatened to burst out in a loud cry.
She half-ran to the road, wrapping her cloak closer to herself. The patrols paid her no mind– the cloak was a sturdy but simple one, hiding all her finery.
Looking around, she glanced at the massive statue of Azura, cut into the side of a mountain, built to appear most imposing at this very hour of the evening. The sun had all but set, yet the rays were brightest around that shrine, almost directly westward of Winterhold.
Elisif had decided, from the moment she gazed out of the window, not to restrain any impulse that day. An ardent wish seized her to visit the shrine, and she set off.
It was well that the recent war had brought increased guards on the road– heedless, the High Queen walked unaware of the many dangers that would have beset a lone traveler on that route.
Courage, for her, had been coping with her husband’s death. It had been living under the threat of Ulfric’s sword. She had braved that and more– but this is how most of us live, she realised dimly as she left the straight road and began the long climb to the statue. Unaware of the danger, perhaps, but not unwilling to face it.
The route to the shrine itself was unguarded. Elisif drew her enchanted dagger, hoping she would not have to use it. In one hand, she readied a Fireball– after her husband’s murder, Sybille Stentor, the unyielding and blunt court wizard of Haafingar, had given her many kind hours of private instruction.
Despite the threatening howls she heard, she reached the stairs at the base of Azura’s shrine unmolested– but just then, a pack of ice wolves set upon her.
She went numb with fear for a moment, seeing their wild eyes about to pounce– but instinctively threw a fireball at the leader.
There were three of them. Fighting them off would have been impossible– but just as the second bit her on the arm, a woman descended on them, crying out a prayer to Azura as a flurry of well-placed destruction spells routed the pack.
Elisif shuffled towards the stairs, catching her breath and looking gingerly at the wound on her arm. The woman– a Dunmer priestess– made short work of the wolves, and rushed to her side.
“Rest, traveller,” she advised. Making her lean onto a pillar, she used a Heal Other spell, giving Elisif a warm, almost comforting sensation as golden light stitched up her wound.
“Thank you.”
“It is a pleasure to help anyone who comes to pay respect to my Lady. Especially at dusk, though I fear you are a little late.”
Elisif racked her brains for a diplomatic answer– but she was tired. “I am not a worshipper of Azura. I have nothing against them, of course– but I only came to admire the shrine.”
“It is enough. It is more than most feel.”
They sat in silence, Elisif gazing with genuine wonder at the sheer scale of the statue. There she was– Azura, the lady of Dawn and Dusk, looking impassively over the vast mountainous expanse of Eastern Skyrim. Elisif had lived in Solitude all her life– all she knew of this Daedroth was what the priests at the Temple told her. But she was older now.
“Do you live here? Is it because you cannot practice your faith in the cities?”
The woman sighed reverentially. “I live here to be close to my Lady. Once, she blessed me with visions of the future, and saved many of us from the eruption that decimated Morrowind. Now, she has ceased those insights– but how does it matter? I have played my part in the grand design.”
“Why not leave, then?”
“She still cares for me– for all of us. She keeps me safe. My faith did not just depend on her favours. I can still feel the reverberations of her wisdom.”
“And what wisdom does she offer for grief?” Elisif heard herself asking, immediately scolding herself for it. It had been more than a year. It was unseemly to hold on to it.
“Grief is natural. Dawn always gives way to Dusk, but after the ensuing night Dawn returns. It will seem harsh to you, perhaps, but our ancestors remain with us after death. We do not mourn them, for they are happy, and continue to guide us. ”
“What if the one I lost did not follow her?”
“You are a Nord– so were they, I presume. Sovngarde will greet them. Now that the Dragonborn has rid us of Alduin, even the heavens rejoice. You need not worship her to know the truth of her teachings. You are alive, and must play your part.”
“I was always told the Daedra are evil,” Elisif said, almost smiling at the exhaustion that made her tongue flow so freely.
“It is not my concern what the world says, what divisions it draws. I have devoted my life to one who has never shown me anything but kindness. Azura has been a harsh mistress sometimes– but in her heart, she laughs and cries with her followers. In prayer– true prayer– I can feel her love. I would not trade it for anything in the world.”
“Tell me your name, priestess,” Elisif broke in, feeling a sudden rush of sympathy.
“I am Aranea Ienith,” she answered simply, showing none of the eager curiosity about her that Elisif was used to.
“Aranea, what would you do if all this love could no longer reach Azura? If her love could no longer warm you? And despite that, you had to carry on being her priestess– after all the meaning behind it was stripped away?”
“I have pledged my soul– once I die, she waits for me in Moonshadow. How would it matter if my love could not reach her today? She does not need it– and yet she values it. She values each voice that puts its faith in her. And that is my answer– my faith would keep me going. I will not forget the glimpses into her heart that I was blessed with. Her displeasure would horrify me– but her indifference is impossible. ”
She fell silent, a sorrow entering her eyes. “I grieve for my friends who once lived here, and left me for warmer hearths, and I grieve that Her voice– my only companion– has also deserted me. I leave the shrine much more than I used to. But I never doubt. It is not out of fear– I have confessed to her many times that being her priestess is difficult, and she has never refused me. Yes, it is difficult– but it is not a burden. Guiding others to that comfort, spreading her word– it will not lose its meaning. I have met many novice worshippers, each with their own stories. My faith is a force for good, these hands of mine can bring about the peace she wants her worshippers to have.”
Elisif pondered this for a while. “You speak of her much more… familiarly than we do of the Divines,” she said before she had entirely gathered her thoughts.
“It will seem strange to you, no doubt. But she is not a distant observer, content to let us interpret ancient scripture. She lives with the Dunmer. We can call on her, speak to her, love her as if she were here in the flesh. And one day, my flesh will be hers.”
“We must disagree, then,” Elisif replied in a friendly voice. “I prefer the stolidity of the Divines. But your devotion is admirable.”
“You are torn, I see, because you want your love to be separate from your duty,” Aranea said with a smile. “Why does it taint your love to have it guide you?”
“I was not meant to shoulder all this. Everyone knows it.”
“Everything happens for a reason. Night has fallen– we may know for certain that Dawn will come, but that does not mean we idle away. Our actions will bring it about.”
“Perhaps I can embrace that sentiment someday,” Elisif replied wistfully. “But I am not ungrateful. Much has happened this year to give us hope. Soon, the next will begin– and I will stay by myself, insulated.”
“I sense a strong spirit within you, and a brave one, to come here alone purely out of curiosity. What good is this shuttered love of yours, if it brings you to deathly stillness?”
“You do not know, Aranea,” Elisif shook her head.
“Azura’s foresight remains with me. I see your struggles. The war has ended– and you are not friendless. Many love you for yourself. And those who do it for another’s sake– are they not just like you?”
Elisif shivered. “It is cold here.”
“You cannot survive a night here. I will escort you to Winterhold.”
“It will not be necessary. Look, there are torches on the road below. They will find me.”
“Then I bid you farewell.”
“Do you need anything here? I ensured that Kraldar has lifted all the laws restricting the mages. You will have no difficulties with supplies, or with the College–”
“I am happy here. Azura gives me purpose.”
Elisif felt her solemn contentment, and it brought out her own playfulness.“And I am glad that my purpose permits me a softer bed.”
Aranea smiled broadly for the first time. “May all turn out well.”
“Thank you again. I will think about what you said.”
They stood in silence for a while, and as half of the search party broke off to approach the shrine, Aranea melted away into the darkness.
~
“Good morning, Falk.”
“Good morning, your Grace. I have managed to conceal last night’s adventure from the jarl…”
“I am sorry to burden you, steward, I will be mindful in the future. We leave for Windhelm today– what must I know?”
Falk Firebeard cleared his throat, pulling a tall stack of parchment towards himself. “We will greet the New Year there, as you know. I must advise her Grace not to attempt to speak to the courtiers directly–”
“Falk, surely I can speak with them if you accompany me?”
“Oh… certainly.”
“I understand. I will follow your lead. But I cannot do that forever.”
“No, your Grace. It is a good idea,” he said without his usual conciliatory tone. “Now as for the new jarl…”

After the Core
The journey back from the Ynnungaap was spent in silence. VS Unity was battered but Eirn had assured everyone that it could still take them back to Pellow Village, and he and the other gnomes were keeping an eye on things below deck while the Hero, Izaac, Riadne, Yashta and Mazurek remained above, each trying to process what had just happened.
A flash of yellow light drew the Hero’s attention, and they turned to where Pandora had appeared back from the Plane of Elemental Spirits. “So?”
Pandora shook her head, her expression sombre. “He isn’t there.”
They hadn’t thought that they could hurt any more than they were, but her words still send a dull thud of pain through them. “I don't understand! I thought Soulweavers go to the Plane of Elemental Spirits after they die!”
“They do,” Pandora replied softly. “I don't know why he isn't there.” She lowered her head, reaching out to the Hero through their bond. “I'm sorry…”
Izaac looked up from where he was comforting Riadne, who was lying in his lap and covering her face as she wept quietly. “Someone has to notify his family.”
“I will do it.”
“We didn't take Vaal…” Mazurek mumbled.
The Hero’s expression tightened. “He ran away. I don't care about him.”
Footsteps sounded on the deck, and attention was drawn to Eirn having joined them. “Sorry to interrupt, but we are reaching the vortex. The Void Drive is powered up by the Ynnungaap Core energy, we might be able to pierce through, but it will be a rough ride.”
The Hero gave a bitter laugh. “It can't be much worse than what we had to endure getting here. Let's go, I'm done with this place…”
As Eirn had warned, the return back to Pellow Village was rough, VS Unity shuddering and making concerning splintering noises as the Void Drive pushed it through the vortex, the crew looking up from inside their cabins, holding tightly to each other, but eventually the ship made it through, and in comparison it was smooth sailing back to the dock at Pellow Village.
The gnomes and the Soulweavers were the first to disembark, making their way back to the Equilibrium Gate and Ravenloss, then Mazurek’s crew and finally the six of them, taking one last glance around the village sealed in the Void – the Hero in particular taking in the statue of Pandora at the entrance – before passing through the gate. As the last of them, Yashta, emerged on the other side there was a rumbling sound and the purple translucent barrier became solid, the glowing key runes growing dull once again, as they had been when the Hero had first journeyed to the underground town.
“The void,” Riadne breathed, looking around. “It's not here anymore.” Sure enough, where there was once a void path leading to the Equilibrium Gate, and floating houses, were now regular cobblestones like the rest of Ravenloss, and houses planted firmly on the ground.
The Hero nodded at the structure behind them, Pandora having appeared next to them. “And the Equilibrium Gate sealed itself. I don’t think we’ll be going back.”
“Probably for the best,” Eirn mused. “So, this… is where we part ways.”
The Hero closed their eyes and nodded again. “Thank you everyone… it has been quite a journey. And…and in the end, Tomix did stop Aspar…”
“Yes he did,” Izaac replied quietly. “Take care, Hero.”
Riadne offered a slightly watery smile. “Visit us someday.”
“I will.”
“I will stay here, in Ravenloss, should you need me, Hero,” Yashta intoned.
“I shall always be by your side,” Pandora added softly.
Mazurek gave a wistful sigh. “VS Unity was a beautiful lady, but I must get back to me own ship.”
“Sail safe,” the Hero looked down at their hands, which were shaking slightly. “This may be where we part ways, but we'll be seeing each other soon. At the…”
Riadne placed a hand on their shoulder. “We'll be there.”
****
The Hero couldn’t remember much of the next few days, passing as if they were a dream (or a nightmare), just snippets; leading the Soulweaving students and teachers back to Edelia, Danyel sitting stony-faced at his desk when they delivered the news, a lilac elemental spirit hovering beside him, Barvra falling back into a chair and covering her face with her hands, while Katia stood there in shock.
Somehow they were able to make it back to Falconreach, practically stumbling through the door of the inn, Serenity taking one look at them and gently guiding them up to their usual room and sitting them down on the bed, closing the door behind her with the promise of bringing them some fresh baked bread and soup.
The Hero went through the motions of removing their soulweaving uniform as if in a trance, that was only broken when they got to their belt, the belt that held Pandora’s cube.
The belt Tomix wove for them.
The sound that emerged from their throat as they sank to their knees was barely human, a mixture of sobbing and howling, the purest sound of grief that sent their dragon hurtling into their lap, snuggling into their chest, that summoned Pandora to the material world as she wrapped her arms around them in a hug they couldn’t feel, their knuckles turning white as they gripped the belt, as if this physical memory of Tomix could bring him back.
****
All too soon, it was time.
“Does anyone have something to add?” Danyel asked once he’d finished his speech, looking down at the gravestone nestled under the sprawling tree branches.
“I do,” Izaac spoke up as Riadne sniffled quietly beside him. “At least, I think I'll go first. Tomix was a friend. I can remember the day the two of us first met at Edelia. No one could have ever guessed at the time that we would ever get along together. We were complete opposites. I was the quiet, studious one. He was the angsty teen and a terrible prankster. We were really a terrible match for each other. We should have been sworn enemies really. Each of us had our own childhood issues to deal with... and yet we still became the very best of friends. I think that's the most important thing to say about him.”
He paused for a moment to compose himself, Riadne’s sniffles having turned to sobs. “In all times, before he was banished or on his journey after wherever he went, even if it might not have always been…requited, he was a good friend to everyone that was important to him. Loyal from the beginning... right up to the very end.”
“TOMIX!” Riadne wailed, falling to her knees and weeping uncontrollably, Izaac dropping down next to her and wrapping his arms around her.
Mazurek sighed, looking down at a small amulet she held in her hand. “Ye know, 'luv, yer not the first man to have taken up on an adventure like that. I've seen many. Comin' in with yer handsome, pretty looks and yer fighting skills. Promisin' a wild adventure like no other… Life be filled with plenty of short lived and passing acquaintances. Aye, a pirate's life it is. Saying that you be no more that though… I'd be wrong. Listen… I mayen't have pretty words or fond memories like yer friends 'ere. I were the ship's Captain, surely, but ye… ye were sailin' in yer own storm as well, weren't ye? One so terrible and so violent, ye knew that, no matter how ye'd sail, no matter how hard ye fought against it, eventually… ye'd sink and join Davey's Locker.”
She lowered her head and added quietly. “Still kept to the wheel though. Ye still sailed because ye knew that though ye might go down tryin', ye could still save the one thing that mattered. Ye could still save yer crew. Ye were a brave Captain to us all, Tomix, 'cause ye had the true heart of one.”
One by one, everyone slowly left, whispering their goodbyes, until there was just the Hero and Danyel left. For a while, neither said anything until Danyel, without turning around, spoke hollowly.
“You didn't keep your promise.”
The Hero said nothing as he left, leaving them alone with the grave of their best friend, taking several deep breaths before stepping up to it. “Hey… You know... I'm not good at goodbyes either. It's not that I wouldn't be able to find the words for it. I just…I just don't really like them.”
Pausing, they looked up at the sky, the setting sun painting the clouds orange and yellow. “It's strange... right now, memories are flashing by my eyes, flooding my mind. A flood so strong, it hurts. But I'm not about to die or anything. And it's not my life I'm seeing, it's… It's our adventures.”
A small smile formed as they looked back down again. “Like that first Mogloween... you appearing out of nowhere just as troubles were starting. Ten seconds later, you tell me to die. That was good one. And then we kicked Greed's butt for the first time. Hah! The look on his face when we had foiled his plans for Falconreach! But that wasn't even the beginning, wasn't it? I…I only actually got to know you when we met again in Ravenloss. Spelunking through Ravenloss was completely crazy and dangerous. Running through alleys and places filled with angry half spider, half human Chaosweavers out for our blood. But at the same time…so many interesting things happened. For all of Ravenloss' darkness, it did have plenty of curious mysteries and stories to uncover. Embodiments, traces of Vaal and Murk at many turns… We met and made friends. First Riadne and her, heh, feisty personality at the Weaver Emporium. And then you reunited and I met Izaac at Mystlyk Museum. And before I knew it... you and your SpiritLooms had become a familiar and friendly sight.”
A breeze ruffled the Hero’s hair poking out from their Soulweaving hood as they inhaled, almost lost in the memories. “Your hijinks with Riadne… Your determination to see your mission through…” The smile faded. “That wasn't our last adventure though. We had one more. One that was just as crazy, adventuring and dangerous, if not more so. And now…it's coming to a close. That's why…” A sob escaped past their lips, tears falling yet they pushed on, determined to get their message out, for Tomix, and for themself. “T-That's WHY... I-I want to s-SAY…THANK YOU!”
“It was fun… It was so very, very fun to go on adventures with you…”

Cap #1 by J. Michael Straczynski. This is a 16-issue series that was running around the same time as Fall of X, but having now read through it, I see current comic events basically aren't even referenced, and the run itself doesn't change Steve's status quo much or have anything that's particularly dramatic, so I suspect there isn't going to be a lot of fic that takes place during this run. As such, I'll breeze through the plot and mostly focus on the fun (and sometimes not-so-fun) characterization and canon tidbits the run gives us. But first, here's the one thing that does change about Steve's status quo: Steve buys a building in his first issue! It's apparently the building his parents lived in (located in the Lower East Side), but everyone got an eviction notice, so Steve decides to call Tony up so he can get the money to buy the building himself and become the landlord. What follows is a very MCU-ish exchange that totally contradicts current canon (Tony is dirt poor right now, and while Steve has the Unity Squad, I am not convinced that that's what he's talking about when he refers to his Avengers salary). Wrangling this into the timeline will be a problem for future me. Anyway: thanks to Tony, he owns a building now. Cool!

Steve's dad died shortly after World War I. Steve and his mom visited his grave twice a year to talk to him. Then his mom passed in 1936 when he was 14, and he visited both their graves. Arnie Roth was his main friend. He became Captain America on June 22, 1940, at the age of 18 (so young!!). Also, sometimes his mom would look at him on the street from her apartment when she thought he wasn't looking, but he was aware, and sometimes he would look up at her when he thought she wasn't looking.

Then we get a pre-serum Steve flashback, which turns out to be its own arc for the next few issues. Basically, after his mom dies, he can't pay rent anymore. He lives in a condemned building and works a ton of odd jobs to earn money - construction, washing cars, walking dogs, bagging groceries, selling newspapers. Eventually, Arnie tells him he has a lead for a less janky place to live in, so he starts saving for that. Then one day at the park (now 1938, so he apparently lived there for... a while...), he's eyeing food real longingly because he is soooo hungry, but he resists. A stranger then tells him there's a rally giving out free food, so he goes and gets a ham sandwich. He's about to chow down, when - oh no! It turns out that the rally is being held by the German American Bund (so, you know, Nazis).
Meanwhile, in the present day, Steve helps out the Fantastic Four (a cameo appearance) while Asmoday, a demon, finds a body to possess and meets up with an A.I.M. person.

↱ the enchanting pair ↰
➘ summary : Nobara Kugisak and her girlfriend are the it couple everyone dreams to be
➘ a/n : I’ll also be making a male version of this and will link it once it’s posted
➘ Nobara Kugisak x reader, jjk x reader
At the bustling corridors of the Tokyo Metropolitan Jujutsu Technical College, there was a couple that everyone seemed to be talking about – Nobara Kugisaki and her girlfriend (Y/N). They were the epitome of the "it couple" – charismatic, charming, and undeniably magnetic. Their presence turned heads and sparked whispers wherever they went.
Nobara was a force to be reckoned with, her bold personality matched only by her incredible jujutsu skills. With her striking crimson hair and a confidence that radiated from every step she took, Nobara was a captivating sight. She had a reputation for being fierce and unapologetically herself.
And then there was (Y/N), her girlfriend. With (hair color) hair and captivating (eye color) eyes, (Y/N) was a vision of elegance and allure. Her quiet grace was a perfect contrast to Nobara's vibrant energy. Despite her more reserved demeanor, (Y/N) possessed a captivating presence that drew people in.
The combination of Nobara's fierce spirit and (Y/N)'s quiet charm made them an enchanting pair. Their relationship was a beacon of confidence and support, a living example of how two individuals could complement each other in the most beautiful ways.
As they walked hand in hand through the courtyard, their interactions were a dance of affection and playfulness. Nobara's infectious laughter would fill the air, followed by (Y/N)'s gentle smiles and knowing glances. They were a living testament to the bond that held them together, a bond that seemed unbreakable.
Their status as the "it couple" was more than just popularity – it was a testament to their authenticity. Nobara and (Y/N) were unapologetically themselves, and their relationship was a source of inspiration for others who admired their connection.
In the classroom, during training sessions, and even in the halls between classes, Nobara and (Y/N) were inseparable. Their magnetic presence seemed to draw people toward them, creating a sense of camaraderie and warmth wherever they went.
As the days passed, their reputation continued to grow. Their relationship was the talk of the school, and it wasn't just because of their looks – it was the way they supported each other, the way they shared their lives, and the way they faced challenges as a united front.
The "it couple" was more than just a label; it was a symbol of strength, unity, and love. As they navigated their way through the trials and tribulations of school life and jujutsu training, Nobara and (Y/N) knew that their bond was unbreakable. And as their classmates admired them from afar, they also learned a valuable lesson – that true connection goes beyond appearances, and that a loving partnership can truly make you feel like the luckiest person in the world.
After classes, they found themselves in a quaint café just off campus, a place they often visited to unwind and spend quality time together.
Sitting across from each other at a cozy corner table, Nobara sipped her coffee while (Y/N) enjoyed a warm cup of tea. Their fingers brushed against each other occasionally, a small and intimate connection that spoke volumes.
Nobara grinned mischievously, her eyes sparkling with playfulness. "Did you see the look on Itadori's face during that sparring session today? Priceless!"
(Y/N) chuckled, her gaze softening as she watched Nobara. "You love teasing him, don't you?"
Nobara shrugged, a playful smirk on her lips. "It's all in good fun. He needs someone to keep him on his toes."
Their banter flowed effortlessly, a testament to the comfort they felt in each other's presence. They could talk about anything and everything – from their classes to their future aspirations, from their favorite foods to their shared dreams.
As they chatted, (Y/N)'s hand found its way to Nobara's across the table, their fingers entwining in a gentle embrace. The touch was simple, yet it spoke volumes about the depth of their connection.
"Nobara, can I ask you something?" (Y/N)'s voice was soft, carrying a hint of vulnerability.
Nobara nodded, her gaze focused entirely on (Y/N). "Of course, anything."
(Y/N) hesitated for a moment before continuing. "Do you ever worry about what people think of us? As a couple, I mean."
Nobara's expression softened, and she reached across the table to cup (Y/N)'s cheek gently. "Hey, don't let other people's opinions bother you. We're us, and that's all that matters. Anyone who doesn't like it can take a hike."
(Y/N)'s lips curved into a grateful smile, her heart warming at Nobara's words. "You're right. I just needed a reminder."
Nobara's thumb brushed gently against (Y/N)'s cheek, her eyes filled with tenderness. "You're incredible, (Y/N). Never doubt that."
Their moment was interrupted by a playful voice from behind them. "Aww, aren't you two just the cutest?"
Turning around, they found Megumi Fushiguro smirking at them, a teasing glint in his eyes. He was accompanied by Yuji Itadori, who grinned and gave them a thumbs-up.
Nobara rolled her eyes playfully. "What do you want, Fushiguro?"
Megumi leaned against their table, his tone dripping with mock innocence. "Just admiring the sight of the "it couple" in their natural habitat."
(Y/N) chuckled, feeling a light blush creeping onto her cheeks. "You two are incorrigible."
Yuji joined in with a laugh. "We just wanted to let you know that you've got a fan club."
Nobara's expression turned sly. "Oh really? What do we get as founding members?"
Megumi smirked. "Lifetime access to the premium entertainment of watching you two be adorably cheesy."
Despite their teasing, there was a warmth in their interactions, a camaraderie that spoke of friendship and acceptance. As the banter continued, (Y/N) realized that while they may be the "it couple" that others admired, what truly mattered was the love and connection they shared – a love that was uniquely their own, and a connection that went beyond appearances and labels.
And as the afternoon sun cast a golden glow on their corner of the café, (Y/N) knew that being part of this "it couple" was not about the opinions of others, but about the bond she and Nobara had built – a bond that was unbreakable, and a love that was truly extraordinary.

Last weekend, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Israel, Jordan (to meet with Arab foreign ministers), Ramallah (located in the West Bank), Iraq, and Turkey. With the war between Israel and Hamas now entering its sixth week, U.S. diplomacy has kicked into high gear. As Blinken works to secure humanitarian relief for Gazans caught in the crossfire, he has been signaling where he and the White House would like things to go once the fighting stops: a “revitalized” Palestinian Authority (PA) that would administer the West Bank and Gaza and a temporary international force to help provide security in the latter.
These ideas are probably the only ones that satisfy U.S. political, diplomatic, and geo-strategic concerns as well as those of some Arab governments. Yet they are likely to fail.
The Biden administration is embarking on a path that it studiously avoided during its first three years—and for good reason. It is now going to discover that, despite its efforts, when the war between Israel and Hamas ends, the region will look more like a version of the status quo that existed on Oct. 6 than a new Middle East.
As Blinken crisscrossed the Middle East, he seemed of the mind that this war is a paradigm-shifting event. This is a misplaced hope, however. No doubt there is a place for U.S. diplomacy in the conflict, but the secretary of state is approaching it with a set of assumptions—about the likely effects of the war on Israeli and Palestinian politics, the interests of regional actors, and Washington’s influence—that are defective.
It is not a bad assumption that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s days are numbered. He presided over the single greatest security failure in Israel’s history, which undermined the entire logic of his long tenure as the country’s leader. Netanyahu told Israelis that he was uniquely capable of providing them with the security and normalcy that they so desperately craved. It would be an extraordinary demonstration of political skills for him to survive this crisis.
But his likely political demise does not portend the resurrection of the Israeli peace camp. Even before Hamas murdered around 1,400 Israelis on Oct. 7, the standard-bearers of the two-state solution had become marginal political actors. Israel’s left-wing Meretz party, which commanded as many as 12 (out of 120) seats in the Knesset in the mid-1990s and most recently was a member of Naftali Bennett’s anti-Netanyahu government coalition in 2021, failed to win a single mandate in the Israeli parliament in the November 2022 elections—a loss of six seats. The Labor Party—the party of Israel’s founders and builders—sits in the Knesset with a mere four seats.
Elections will not happen until after hostilities in Gaza come to an end. But it seems likely that after Hamas wrought so much death and destruction on Israel, Israelis will again rebuff those peddling a peaceful coexistence with Palestinians. A postwar government could very well end up being a Netanyahu-less center-right-right coalition.
During the second week of the war, polls showed that Benny Gantz—the former defense minister and leader of National Unity alliance—enjoyed broad political support. He is a centrist only by Israeli standards, however; he ran to Netanyahu’s right on Gaza in previous election cycles and remains coy about Palestinian statehood. All of this suggests that if Blinken and his advisors believe they can resurrect the two-state solution, then they misapprehend Israeli politics.
Central to the U.S. day-after approach is the rehabilitation of the Palestinian Authority for it to take responsibility for the Gaza Strip once again. It is not at all clear what the goal of revitalizing the PA means in practice, though. Pouring money and guns into PA President Mahmoud Abbas’s coffers has helped him build a corrupt national security state.
Perhaps Blinken intends for there to be new elections in the Palestinian territories. Yet Abbas could lose, which is why the PA has not held parliamentary elections since 2006, when his faction—Fatah—lost to Hamas.
Even if Abbas could overcome the PA’s corruption, dysfunction, and lack of legitimacy with U.S. help, it is unlikely that he would want to be the U.S.-Israeli proconsul in Gaza. After all, that is at the heart of Hamas’s critique of the Palestinian Authority: that it advances Israeli—and by extension U.S.—interests at the expense of Palestinian rights. On this, the Hamas leadership is not wrong.
Presumably, the United States will enlist the so-called international community to help the Palestinian Authority get on its feet. This is not a bad thought, but Washington needs willing partners—and no leader in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, or Africa has raised their hand to help with either providing security in Gaza after the war or helping to reenergize the PA. It is almost certain that there will be a conference in Geneva or Istanbul, where countries will pledge billions of dollars for the reconstruction of Gaza—most of which will never arrive.
But don’t expect foreign troops to materialize to keep peace. The Europeans will resist out of fear, the Egyptians will balk because they do not want to be responsible for Gaza, and the rest of the Arab world lacks the capacity for such an important mission. One can imagine that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan might dramatically offer Turkish troops, claiming historic responsibility and Muslim solidarity, but the Israelis will never agree to Erdogan’s aggrandizement at their expense.
Let’s play a thought experiment: Suspend reality and suppose that the United States can renovate the PA, European and Arab countries step up with peacekeeping forces for Gaza, and the Israelis produce a moderate centrist coalition. This would be good news, but the bases of the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians would remain. Israelis will still not want to share Jerusalem, they won’t accept Palestinian refugees in their midst, and they will not agree to live within the boundaries set on June 4, 1967, at the end of that year’s Arab-Israeli War. For their part, the Palestinians will not give up a capital in Jerusalem, cannot forsake the refugee issue, and must have a territorially contiguous and fully sovereign state.
There is nothing about the war in Gaza that will encourage Israelis and Palestinians to alter these positions. The world always expects the two parties to walk right up to the abyss and pull back, but instead they always join hands and jump.
The appetite for destruction that has played out in Israel and Gaza over the past month reflects the fact that the underlying conflict between Israel and the Palestinians is not yet ripe for resolution. And there is little reason to believe that when the current round of fighting is over, the situation will be any more propitious for diplomacy. Hamas needs to not lose, and even if it does, it will have burnished its resistance credentials to the extent that the cost of the conflict will be worth it for the group’s leaders.
The Israelis are bloodied, but not enough for them to seek a different path. This is especially true as long as the Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah sits on the sidelines and takes shots at Israel without triggering a full-scale war.
In addition, Israel’s relations with Arab states remain mostly intact. The Jordanians have recalled their ambassador and told the Israelis not to send one back to Amman until after the fighting has stopped, but King Abdallah has not severed relations. The lower house of the Bahraini parliament issued a statement suspending relations that did not actually suspend relations. The head of the foreign affairs and defense committee of the United Arab Emirates’ Federal National Council said: “From the United Arab Emirates perspective, the Abraham Accords are there to stay.” Saudi Arabian Minister of Defense Khalid bin Salman, who also happens to be the crown prince’s brother, reportedly indicated in Washington last week that the kingdom remains interested in normalization with Israel.
Breaking ties or putting potential ties on ice might get Israel’s attention, but Arab leaders don’t seem willing to take that step.
Taken together, all of this suggests that after all the death and destruction, and all of Blinken’s shuttling, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will end up no closer—or, more likely, even farther away—from a settlement than before Oct. 7. The only difference will be whatever security regime Israel devises for the Gaza Strip—a territory that Hamas cannot be allowed to continue governing, but which no international power is willing to take responsibility of.
It is true that the Israel-Hamas war seems cataclysmic, but it is not a paradigm-shifting event like Egyptian-Israeli peace, the end of the Cold War, or the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. It is a local conflict—the stakes of which have been magnified many times because of passionate partisans on both sides, far away from the bloodshed.
It will remain as it was before: unresolvable, no matter how much mileage Blinken clocks between Washington and Middle Eastern capitals.

Secrecy and Deception Chapter 8
Pan-American Unity (Wattpad | Ao3)
Table of Contents | Prev | Next
Event: Rio Treaty
Location: Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro, Federative Republic of Brazil
Date: September 2, 1947
America was glad he wasn’t the only one with a state whose capital had the same name as the state. It showed that his family was not the only one with lousy naming abilities.
But that’s not why he was in Brazil. America was here to sign a treaty with his fellow American nations. Despite the delays that came from Argentina and his refusing to get along, they were now all arriving in Brazil here to sign it.
This treaty was a mutual assistance treaty as a safeguard in case an act of aggression threatened the Western Hemisphere. It would most likely be a European threat, either from the Soviet Union or another power-hungry nation. However, this treaty would make it much more likely that America would be tangled in another war, as it said that an attack on one of the signatories of this treaty was an attack on all of them.
This was a far cry from his people’s previous view on alliances and President Washington’s view on alliances. America wondered what President Washington would think of him now.
“I think your dad would be proud of your accomplishments but annoyed that you keep making other nations problems your own,” Rebecca snarked. America sighed, wishing he was in a place where he could tell her off and insist that President Washington was not a father figure to him.
“Don’t worry, I know he wasn’t,” James commented, voice heavy with sarcasm.
America did his best to ignore them.
The treaty was like a more formal version of the Monroe Doctrine, which had long been in effect for the American nations. It was not the most drastic change to come from World War Two.
There were still many other parts of the treaty that America had to help set up and just signing and leaving wasn’t something he would have the luxury of being able to do. The Organ of Consultation was used to impose sanctions, and emergency measures of self-defense had to be examined by foreign ministers.
A complicated treaty.
“My favorite kind of treaty said no one ever,” Caleb joked.
America then entered the room where the treaty would be signed and collapsed in the seat labeled with his name with a sigh.
“Still sleep-deprived?” Cuba asked.
“Moreso than usual. I hate being the world power. Everyone else has too many problems.” America said. Cuba rolled his eyes and lowered his voice to a whisper.
“At least you have Dee.” He muttered, his head turned towards the wall to prevent anyone from reading his lips. America smiled and nodded.
“She’s a lifesaver,” America muttered, carefully watching the countries enter the room.
“And an ass,” Cuba muttered. America held back a laugh right as Panama began walking towards them.
“I think the mother of your child wants visiting rights,” Caleb said in an amused tone.
“United States.” She greeted, her voice clipped.
“Panama.” America responded with a smile, “How are you today?”
“I want to talk to Zona del Canal de Panamá. I haven’t been able to talk to her since you joined the war.” Panama asked. America nodded.
“Yes, you can. We can arrange something after the signing. Sorry about keeping you two from seeing each other. It’s just that with the war, the bomb, and my new status, along with everything else that’s gone on since then, I’ve been a bit more protective of my territories and children,” America said. Panama sighed.
“I don’t care about your reasons. I want to see her.” She said. America nodded.
“You will,” America answered. Panama nodded and then walked to her seat.
“Your love life makes great entertainment. I should tell Orange about this.” Cuba commented. America blushed, flustered.
“Oh god, if Cuba thinks that’s bad–”
“Caleb, please shut up. None of us want to think about that,” James muttered, annoyed.
“I’m not in love with Panama! We just had a kid together. And you better not fucking tell him.” America snaped. Cuba laughed.
“Fine. I’ll tell Puerto Rico instead.” He said. America threw his hands in the air, exasperated.
“Well fuck you then. Airing all my dirty laundry like an ass.” America said.
“Please States. If I wanted to air your dirty laundry, I would do much more than tell Puerto Rico about that conversation with Panama.” Cuba said.
“Well, now I’m intrigued as to what exactly Cuba knows about you,” Ecuador said.
“Very embarrassing things,” Cuba said. America’s blush deepened in color.
“He might have only lived with us for four years, but the States are an effective group of people,” Caleb said, his voice full of amusement.
“It also helps that he still talks to Florida and Rico regularly. Mainly to shit talk New Spain but still,” Rebecca added.
“Wait, why do you know that?”
“Shut up! You promised not to tell!” America said.
“I am also very intrigued,” Mexico said.
“I am as well. I thought this would be boring, but apparently, it was not. I’ve never seen United this red before.” Nicaragua said. America groaned.
“I hate every single one of you,” America said.
“But not me, right?” Cuba asked with a cheeky grin, reminding me far too much of Florida and that god-awful prank war in 1900.
“You the most,” America said, pointing at him. Cuba nodded and smiled in satisfaction.
“Good. That means I’ve won the bet with Rico and Zone.” He said. America groaned, blush lessening, knowing that if Cuba made a bet with Puerto Rico and Panama Canal Zone, he also made a bet with Florida.
“I want to ask what the bet is, but I also feel like I might be better off not knowing,” America said. Cuba nodded.
“Good call, States. Now we’ve gotten pretty sidetracked, so I think we should sign the treaty now.” Cuba said. There were groans throughout the room.
“This is much more entertaining, though,” Brazil said.
“It takes like a minute to sign a treaty. It ain't that boring!” America said, ready to move on from the topic.
“It is compared to this,” Haiti said. America flipped him off, causing more laughs.
“Fine. We’ll sign the treaty now to save your ego.” Dominican Republic said.
“She’s my favorite person here now,” America said, pointing at her.
“What about the mother of your child?”
“CUBA! I SWEAR I WILL FUCKING THROTTLE YOU!”
“Well, that doesn’t inspire a working environment of peace and confidence,” Cuba snarked, prompting a laugh. America groaned, rubbing his face.
Sometimes, the other countries could be worse than his kids.

Day 12- May 28, 2024
Today marked our 12th day in Greece, but more specifically our second day in Olympia! This morning we attended a few lectures regarding the history of Olympia and the Olympic Games, along with visiting a sculptor's workshop. However, the highlight of today was our tour of Ancient Olympia. While here, we had the opportunity to visit three important sites: The Archaeological Museum of Olympia, The Archaeological Site of Olympia, and The Museum of the History of the Olympic Games. Although each site presented various historical artifacts, sculptures, and artwork, the influence of Greek religion was heavily emphasized in each.
The Olympics were started to honor the god Zeus and all Greek city-states were invited to participate. Historically speaking, the Greeks have a long line of wars and fighting between these city states, however, the religious affiliation and ties with the Olympics were so important to the Greeks that all wars were paused under a truce called ekecheiria. During this time, the athletes and their trainers were allowed to safely travel to Olympia. A common misconception regarding Olympia was that the city was thought as a habitable and lively place. This, however, is not true as it is regarded as sacred grounds only used to house the Olympics. On the grounds of Ancient Olympia is the flat area where running events took place, but more importantly due east is the Temple of Zeus. Its size greatly surpassed that of all other buildings in Ancient Olympia to symbolize the importance of Zeus as the "God of all Gods." During the games, all athletes were held to the highest of standards and integrity. If an athlete was caught cheating, they would be fined a hefty fee which would be used to build a statue of Zeus in his honor, and this happened 16 different times. Along with this is the Temple of Hera, which honors the Goddess of marriage, Hera. Although no longer standing, the temple's ruins still remain significant as this is the place where the Olympic flame is lit, signaling the beginning of a Modern Olympics. Although these are just a few examples of the great history of Ancient Olympia, they emphasize the importance of Greek religion in the Olympics and everyday life.
Although Ancient Greek Religion is no longer practiced, it's impact remains. As with the Modern Olympics, nations across the world put their differences aside and come together to honor something bigger than themselves. This may no longer be Zeus, but is still significant and thought of as honoring international unity, human advancements, and cultural differences. Outside of the Olympic games, many local and widespread religions are built upon ideas of the Ancient Greek Religion. These concepts can include symbols, morals, ethics, architectures, and the afterlife. One specific example I can think of is between the Virgin Mary and Athena. The Virgin Mary, which is associated with Christianity, is often times depicted in a protective stance and has a halo. Similarly, the goddess Athena was seen as powerful and a protector, hence many ties have been found. Many other similarities to modern religion can be identified as well. Ancient Olympia was such a great place to visit filled with so much history!

If you're seeking serenity amid the vibrant chaos of Delhi, look no further than the Lotus Temple—a stunning architectural gem and spiritual haven. As an essential stop on any Delhi Experience With Golden Triangle Tour, this monument offers a unique blend of beauty, meaning, and calm that resonates with travelers from all walks of life.
What Is the Lotus Temple?

The Lotus Temple, shaped like a blooming lotus flower, is a Bahá’í House of Worship that stands as a symbol of unity, peace, and inclusiveness. Opened in 1986, this marvel is not just for followers of the Bahá’í faith—it welcomes people of all religions, cultures, and beliefs. Whether you’re seeking spiritual reflection or simply a moment of stillness, the Lotus Temple is open to all.
Why It’s So Special
With 27 white marble petals arranged in clusters to form nine sides, the design of the Lotus Temple draws admiration from architects and visitors alike. The grand central hall inside can accommodate up to 2,500 people, but you won’t find statues, rituals, or sermons here—just silence and sacred space for reflection, prayer, or meditation.
Beyond its mesmerizing design, the temple’s symbolism runs deep. The lotus flower, sacred in many Indian traditions, represents purity, peace, and enlightenment—values echoed by the Bahá’í principles of oneness of humanity and universal peace.
A Refreshing Pause in Delhi
For anyone exploring Delhi’s fast-paced streets, the Lotus Temple provides the perfect contrast. With landscaped gardens, an on-site information center, and a tranquil atmosphere, it's a welcome escape for both the spiritually inclined and lovers of architecture.
Whether you’re a photographer capturing its beauty, a spiritual seeker in need of quiet, or a curious traveler following the Golden Triangle route, the Lotus Temple is a must-visit destination in South Delhi.
How to Reach the Lotus Temple
By Air: Arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). From there, it's about a 40–60 minute cab ride via Ola, Uber, or local taxis.
By Metro: The most convenient option! Take the Violet Line and get off at Kalkaji Mandir Station — the temple is just a 5–10 minute walk from there.
By Car or Local Transport: Punch "Lotus Temple, Bahapur" into Google Maps. Located near Nehru Place, the temple is accessible by car, auto-rickshaws, or e-rickshaws.
Final Thoughts
In a city known for its energy and intensity, the Lotus Temple offers a rare and refreshing experience. It’s more than just a monument—it’s a message of unity, peace, and openness to all. If your Delhi Experience With Golden Triangle Tour includes just one spiritual stop, let it be this one. You’ll leave feeling inspired, grounded, and maybe even a little more connected to the world around you.
