“Have we met? This is hardly the right time for me to go through my social calendar.“

Everyone was standing together a block away from the prison. They were going over the details of the floor plan once again for good measure as they went over the attack preparations. 

Phoenix would melt the front door and they’d charge in. There were no other ways in or out by the look of it, so this was the only option. Chances were Aizawa and the others were being kept in. They’d only have this one shot to get down there. 

They had to make it count.

“Is everyone ready?” Amaryllis asked.

“Just about,” L said, giving them a once over. “I don’t remember your outfit looking like that. You had that made just for this?”

Amaryllis smiled, slipping on their mask. They’d opted for their black-ops costume for this. It was completely black, with only the red flower embroidery on the new cloak being the only place where color was available. It was sturdier, meant for high danger missions like that of the first encounter they had with Spikes. It was also slightly out of date, but it was better than their usual wear. 

“Let’s focus on the task at hand,” Amaryllis chuckled.

“Whatever you say, V for Vendetta,” Phoenix teased.

“Team A ready?” Mic asked, adjusting his speaker.

“Almost. You all need something.” Amaryllis reached into one of the cloak’s inner pockets, pulling out miniature speakers that clipped onto belts, along with what appeared to be enamel pins in the shape of music notes. “You know how Salt Apple can freeze people in place with the painful note? These Speakers do the same, and the music not pin makes it so you personally won’t get hurt by it.”

“Does it just put out a high pitched noise?” Midnight asked. “Because even with the pin, it’ll be annoying to hear that through a fight.”

“No, these are programmed with your favorite song.” They couldn’t help the smirk on their face. “Think of it as having your own battle track. These are just prototypes, but Regi put a lot of work into them before he passed away. Easy to program.”

“Oh, I’m going to have fun with this.” Phoenix cackled. 

“This is a good idea,” Snipe agreed. “One thing though...what would you suggest we do about those guards on the roof? Can’t just shoot them down. That might draw attention before we even get close.”

“Pretty sure one of them had a chainsaw with laser blades on it,” Vlad King grumbled. “Laser Chainsaw...who does things like that?

Phoenix gave them both a pat on the back. “Leave that one to me. Let’s melt some walls.”

Amaryllis nodded. “Let’s.”

“Shit, it’s Midnight!”

“Cool! Time for payback, bitch!”

“Have we met? This is hardly the right time for me to go through my social calendar.“

Midnight lead the charge almost immediately after Phoenix melted the front doors. She recognized a few smaller criminals she’d taken down back in the day. Mostly petty thieves and would be kidnappers. 

That’d been years ago though. They’d gotten better though. 

“Vlad, these villains are being mean to me!” Midnight whined playfully.

“Busy!” Vlad hissed, dodging a laser beam from another villain while creating an opening for Mic, L, Snipe, and Amaryllis to head toward the stairs. 

The sound of laughter and the click clack of boots alerted Midnight to the lava hero catching up to them. There was a buzzing noise along with it. “Oh good. My girlfriend found the chainsaw!”

Phoenix began to fill the floor slowly with lava, using the chainsaw to slice apart a wooden bat one of the smaller crooks had. Because of the weight, she ended up slicing all the way to the arm, but the limb was unharmed.

“So this only cuts inanimate objects,” Phoenix mused. “This is interesting!” 

The villains began to wince as the music from Phoenix’s speaker began to work its magic. Vlad and Midnight took this chance to knock them out and begin stacking them up on a nearby table so they’d be safe from the lava until the police showed up to collect.

“You’re doing amazing, Sweet-Yeet,” Midnight praised, giving Phoenix a kiss on the cheek.

“H-hey,” Phoenix stammered. “You’re no slouch either, Night-Night.”

“Kiss later,” Vlad chided. “Fight now.”

“Party pooper,” Proenix both grumbled. 

“Let’s head upstairs,” Midnight said. “Keep any backup from coming after us.”

Vlad nodded. “That’s a plan I can get behind.”

Aizawa was fighting hard against the poison. It was messing so much with his senses he almost thought the commotion upstairs was all in his head. He could barely move. The Puppeteer had come down to give him another dose after yet another attempted rebellion. Any more attempts and he’d move on to the others.

But that would have to wait. There was something going on upstairs. 

“Come on,” The Puppeteer said. “We need to go see about that thing. The prisoners will be fine.”

Reginald nodded, slipping back on the mask as he followed his master out of the cell block. Aizawa counted to ten. Once he was sure they weren’t coming back, he crawled over to the brick hiding the key and pulled it out, sliding it over to Marianne. 

“Get everyone out of here,” he choked. “This might be the last chance we get before they decide to move us.”

“What about you?” Bedwyr asked. 

“What about me? You have a son to get back to, remember?”

“Believe me, I want to but Eraserhead...we can’t just leave you here.”

“I’ll play decoy. Get out. Find Luci. Warn them of what’s coming.”

Marianne nodded, unlocking her cell and hurrying to free the others. Tanith went over and helped Bedwyr while Marianne knelt beside Aizawa’s cell, about to unlock it as well. 

“Don’t,” he said, trying to remember that she didn’t look like a kappa. “He’ll get suspicious. Just hand me the key and I’ll take care of it.”

Reluctantly, she did as she was told.

“We’ll come back for you,” she promised, handing him the key. “Stay alive.”

“You too.”

Aizawa held that key for dear life as he watched the girls carry Bedwyr out of the cell block. The world began to fade to black again. 

Please, he prayed. Please let them escape.
