I am very new to live streaming, so this was a trip. Almost 150 live viewers?? AH! I was not expecting that haha! AND the team who made this AMAZING project peeped in as well!?! WAH! Truly brilliant and inspiring work from all of y'all!

The puzzles and mysteries of this Update are so thoughtful and interesting, and I will spend the next few weeks giving this update all the love and attention it deserves! I wish we could have figured it all out during the stream, but alas, Moe and I are only a couple of tired gays :0)

I'd contribute a tiny bit to the pro-Zutara side when it comes to the idea of Katara in the role of a co-ruler of the Fire Nation.

I understand where the negative arguments are coming from, how it's especially "shocking" if she enters the royal family (one which led the oppressive regime which waged war for 100 years and caused so much devastation);

however, firstly it is really no longer that family. Zuko committed high treason, almost died TRICE for that and still kept steady on that course, rejected his family, the family's terrible ideas about the world and both Ozai and Azula were imprisoned. Nobody supporting the old ways is still there. I don't understand negative arguments which treat Zuko's early background, lineage, political role (which may be incredibly undefined as the entire nation is being restructured, it's fantasy) as a more important factor than him as a person. He treats others with respect after undergoing redemption, he's demonstrably empathetic, he's working on undoing as much damage the Fire Nation has caused as possible, he was ready to die for these things. Secondly, why should a job or a title in a fantasy setting be a more relevant argument than love? If love was real and strong: if there's mutual respect between two people, understanding, cooperation, splitting of tasks, mutual care, communication on how to tackle problems, this is much more important and holds more weight than whether or not a role granting political power is from this or that side.

From what I've seen, the dominant headcanon for Zutara is that it wouldn't be oppressive to her but instead allow her to affect the world. It makes sense, most people want their favourite characters to be happy - AND there's no canonical evidence to suggest that being a co-ruler of the new Fire Nation would be a terrible, oppressive, restrictive position. Sure, there can also be headcanons where duty to other parts of the world might be too heavy and they split Zuko and Katara up, but this is a Tragedy trope and it only exists when there's incredibly strong love between them underneath this. So even this argument ends up supporting zutara.

I think that any arguments that use outside reasons why their relationship would be terrible are in the end much weaker in philosophy, compared to arguments about whether or not there are strong feelings between them. This is fantasy, love is an incredibly powerful force. And audience wants to believe in the power of love.

Now, if you ask me, I'd say I believe two characters absolutely do not need to have an on-screen kiss or anything completely explicit in order to convey that yes, they have deep feelings for each other. Shipping comes down to preferences, many people certainly simply Do Not Vibe with Zuko as a personality or whatever. However, this is a separate thing from what the characters are written as doing, how they are behaving in each other's company and how they treat each other.

So I'd say, if Katara loves Zuko (and vice-versa), then that's fullstop. Anything else is just an obstacle in their way which they'd tackle together.

I do think character design diversity is important but pls let's not act like the boys in dandadan are diverse when they're all skinny white-skinned generically attractive boys with ONE exception

The point of the post wasn't even so much diversity as it was just character distinguishability. Whether you think Okarun's design is "attractive" or not he still has notably different features and a different build from Jiji, meanwhile Momo and Aira are identical aside from their hair and eyebrows.

And then there's obviously the aliens.

Where the male ones look weird in their base forms and have even weirder transformations, but the one female alien just happens to be a girl with antenna 100% of the time.

This weird need for female characters to be one specific kind of attractive all the time just gets in the way of decent character design.

Do I relate to Viktor's asexual identity in arcane? Yes. Do I appreciate the representation? Absolutely.

Do I also enjoy non asexual/aromantic fan art of jayvik? Yes. Do I want to also see more platonic jayvik fan art? Absolutely.

the effectiveness of 2x07 as a tragedy is the fact that there was a way out of this. this could have been prevented. armand could’ve incapacitated the coven. lestat could’ve attacked santiago. claudia and madeleine could’ve chosen not to return to paris. louis could’ve left france. lestat could’ve actually warned louis and claudia about other vampires. as we’re watching the trial unfold we scan for exits, come up with escape plans, scream at anyone to do something, anything. because it can’t end like this, right? we already know how the story ends but we hope that this time it might be different. as louis is dragged off we hope it might be different. as claudia and madeleine are shoved to the front of the stage we hope it might be different. as madeleine crumbles in claudia’s arms we hope it might be different. as claudia cries and screams at lestat, her maker, her immortal enemy, her father, her abuser, the last person she sees, we hope it might be different.

saw this on twt and it did make me giggle because Armin did far worse than Caitlyn ever did, so if you're an Armin fan you realllly can't be going that hard on Cait (said as a massive Armin fan who's eh on Cait).

you can discuss how the narrative of Arcane handled her character or policing as a system, or their differing ideologies, etc, but comparing Caitlyn to Hitler when your fave is Armin, who LITERALLY killed thousands personally and enabled near omnicide (albeit (mostly) unknowingly), is wild. the comparison is extremely distasteful and inaccurate - especially having seen the racist "Caitler" caricature going around.

Caitlyn's crimes are bad enough without such exaggeration: she was a dictator doing evil cop stuff, not committing genocide or waging war for territorial expansion, or even committing mass murder.

It reminds me of the Eren stans I'd encounter back in the day who hated on Catra and it was like. Oh you love your glorious king when he does omnicide but a catgirl almost does it and suddenly it's too far? 🧐 alright buddy

honestly comparing the crimes of most AoT characters is almost always gonna be a losing battle lol. though it seems twt users are now claiming Mikasa intentionally enabled genocide (though she ended it) and that AoT supports genocide?? it explicitly does not, what are we doing here

i kinda love how often in fics people describe the DA as "stubborn" because i think its so fitting for the "canonical viewer" character. you see, the da didn't continue to live due to vengeance or glory or with a determined goal, no they lived and continue to live due the fact that they can and they will. a refusal to leave. idk its just a very neat thing to me.
