My favorite is when I hear an intrusive thought, to go;
"Aw look it's the trolls in the chat again!"
Like. Trolls. The ones without a life and nothing worthwile to say. Accepting my brain has them in it purely for the sake of upsetting me has helped devalue them.
healing is when you have an intrusive thought and instead of having a meltdown you go “girl what?? shut up” and move on

You will be staring at the ceiling when you decide you aren’t a good person
Not by a long shot
And it might be the religion or it might be that you yelled at your sister but more likely it’s the fact that you aren’t sure if you’ll ever be able to cut a vegetable again
And what kind of person can’t cut up an onion
Or wash the dishes
Or get a snack
You will be seventeen and far too big when you crawl into your parents bed
You will attempt to explain but they don’t need you to
You will fall asleep because they won’t let you do anything
They can stop it
They can stop it right? (You’ll still see it in your head, the mess of what wouldn’t happen if they couldn’t. Like a fucked up Dateline episode in 4K)
And you’ll beg to stay even though you’re packed to go. You’ll beg to delay your trip another night another week another lifetime
What if we were always a cocoon between the hours of 6am and 7 - when the thoughts are on hold in the hazy safety of confession.
It’s a compulsion and you know it and you’ll go, crying the whole way, with a bundle of sheets and a duffle bag, white knuckling the steering wheel and rehearsing lies for the benefit of your friends.
But they have to see it right? I mean goddamn are your eyes red.
But
It’s a summer camp, you’re in charge there, you have to get your shit together.
You will cry in the bathroom at 6am when everyone else is asleep and wish it was your parents bed. And that will fill you with shame for some reason so you’ll go on a run and be back for breakfast and eight year olds will look at you like you’re the most put together person in the world. They’ll hug you. Your hands will shake.
It will be week three when you decide fuck it, you have to tell someone. You expect horror. You expect yelling. God, they should put you away and throw away the key.
They hug you under some trees and you feel like you’re floating and you’ve never felt more seen. You swear they’ll be in your life forever, just because of that. They wont be, but the sentiment remains.
You’ll talk about it now, and that’s something. And you’re making dinner tonight. The recipe says there are onions. You’re okay. You’re okay.

A comic about primarily obsessional OCD, otherwise known as Pure 'O' OCD
-
I'm really happy with how this turned out. I hope you can resonate and come away from this comic with renewed hope. At the very least, I hope you learned something from this. Thank you for reading. Please take care.

OCD demands perfection and absolute certainty. It’s about as rigid as self-flagellation. It’s about controlling that which you absolutely fear the most in the world by, essentially, torturing yourself with it.
At least it is for me.
i am once again asking people i know to do actual research on OCD and what it is b/c i saw someone equating POCD to actual predatory shit recently and i think im going to break out of my enclosure . OCD is not about “subconscious desires” it’s about fear. fears, aversions and repulsions, both subconscious and conscious. OCD forces you to obsess over things that make you anxious, scared, uncomfortable, or disgusted. possibilities (about yourself, your future, your loved ones and their futures, etc) that would give you nightmares if you considered them for too long.  literally the second you start thinking OCD may be about “subconscious desires” you have lost. you made an immediate left turn when you were supposed to make a right and now you’re on a completely different road. this applies to all forms of OCD by the way, even the most “disgusting”, taboo or “disturbing”. whichever form of OCD you’re thinking may be an exception to this rule, is not an exception. b/c there is none

hint for everyone who has real fucked up sexual/violent OCD obsessions: it feels real for everybody. yes, that real. you might have have unnerving sensations in your groin, in your fingertips, in your lips that make you feel like a set trap. you might understand the emotional logic of why somebody would like and do the things you're thinking about. in your hysteria, you might generate justifications for the act in your mind, unsure of whether you actually mean them. after however long you've been thinking about this one thing, you might feel completely numb to its horror and let your festering imagination play out beside you with no opposition. you might have thought so many bad things that you know you have crossed a line, where now, things forever cannot be undone or unknown. knowing you're horrible, you might not care.
and still, none of it is true.
in a year or three or more, you may know that the roiling mess of your brain isn't what you are, that you do not have that awful secret, and that you are never going back to believing it.

Just a reminder that OCD is not a homogenous experience
Not everyone with OCD has contamination OCD
Not everyone with OCD washes their hands obsessively
Not everyone with OCD has observable compulsions
Not everyone with OCD feels the need to be neat and have symmetry
Not everyone with OCD worries about germs
Not everyone with OCD feels able to talk about their rituals, compulsions or intrusive thoughts

Treat your intrusive thoughts like an edgelord little brother. Imagine them in the cracking voice of a 13 year old telling a dead baby joke in the back of the school bus. It makes shit so much less scary.

Those Pure-O OCD thoughts that flash through your head when you get angry (anger and anxiety are chemically the same and exacerbate OCD symptoms in the same way) where once you come out of it ur like "I need to be put down. Like they need to euthanize me like yesterday"
