Este miércoles, 5 de marzo, asistí a ¿QuestionMarks?, cuya edición de 2025 llevaba por título Ciudad, visión y diseño. Una marca en la que vivir. Se trata de un interesantísimo evento organizado por la consultora Nadie junto a Club Matador en el marco del Madrid Design Festival que, en esta ocasión, ha tenido lugar en la Institución Libre de Enseñanza.

El fundador y director de Nadie, Quico Vidal, ha querido mirar esta vez hacia las ciudades, “el gran escenario donde se desarrollan dinámicas sociales, económicas y culturales, donde se gestan futuros, se activan innovaciones y se configuran identidades”, para reflexionar sobre “cómo las ciudades y las marcas pueden inspirarse mutuamente”, para explorar sobre “cómo la marca, entendida como una herramienta de gestión a la vez cultural y operativa, puede contribuir al diseño de ciudades que respondan a los retos del siglo XXI”, para analizar “cómo las ciudades pueden ofrecer a las marcas aprendizajes y escenarios que impulsen la innovación, identifiquen nuevos modelos de actuación y amplíen su impacto en las comunidades”.

En el programa, el alcalde de Málaga, Paco de la Torre –motivo de mi presencia allí junto a Paco Salvador–; el director de Comunicación del Museo Del Prado, Carlos Chaguaceda; el director gerente de Donostia Sustapena-Fomento de San Sebastián, Íñigo Olaizola; la exCEO de I Amsterdam, Geerte Udo; y el arquitecto de Madrid Río, Fernando Porras, entre otras voces.

Comparto a continuación una selección de los apuntes que tomé durante la cita:

Quico Vidal: “Las marcas son instituciones socioculturales que crean ciudad y sociedad; las ciudades son marcas sin logo que se construyen haciendo”.

Íñigo Olaizola se refirió al “trabajo acumulativo” de las ciudades por encima de los ciclos electorales, a las administraciones públicas como prescriptoras del “branding sin diseño”, al equilibrio entre la atracción y la retención de talento –en este sentido, comparó la estrategia de su municipio con el comportamiento de la Real Sociedad–.

Olaizola recordó que San Sebastián roza el pleno empleo y tiene un nivel educativo superior al de Finlandia –también la renta más alta y los precios más caros–: la percepción de una “ciudadanía educada” fue determinante para que Bayer se instalara allí. Se refirió a siete ciudades observadas desde Donostia: Boston, Grenoble, Nantes, Turín, Lisboa, Helsinki y Málaga.

Fernando Porras: “Hay que escuchar. Y hay que contar que se ha escuchado”. La participación debe ir acompañada por un relato al alcance de quienes no participan.

Por deformación profesional, tomé muchas notas de lo dicho por Carlos Chaguaceda —a quien tengo en mi radar desde que publicó El parche del príncipe y otros cuentos de la comunicación (ESIC, 2011), libro sobre el que ya escribí en este blog hace 11 años—:

“Márketing es que vosotros penséis que soy más listo de lo que soy”.

“Sólo sé hacer lo que hago, que es contar cuentos. Los cuentos son siempre los mismos: qué haces, para qué lo haces, cómo te preocupas por los demás”.

“Los objetivos de la comunicación son dos: ser conocido y ser querido”.

“Lo importante del márketing es saber quién eres: El Prado es excelencia, singularidad y el museo que recoge el alma de los españoles”.

“Comunicación también es lo que no haces”.

“No hay que publicitarlo todo: obra bien y te irá bien”.

“Uno no es lo que dice, sino lo que hace”. ¡El “comportamiento de base” de Harold Burson!

“Volvamos a lo básico sin dejarnos fascinar por las alharacas tecnológicas”.

“El reto es seguir siendo relevantes mediante el poder de lo original, lo valioso, lo único”.

“El 80% de nuestros visitantes son licenciados, y eso no está bien. Nuestra función es formativa e inspiradora”.

“No somos una institución turística, sino cultural”. Del mismo modo, agregaba Porras, que el Real Madrid es una institución deportiva pese a la capacidad de atracción del Bernabéu.

“La audiencia no lo justifica todo: no hace falta llevar al El Prado a Ester Expósito”.

“Pueden hacerse muchas cosas, pero siempre al servicio de causas e ideas”.

there's a bunch of lil notes i could add on but the most important ones is:

body is very mouldable, you can squish down certain parts, stretch them out on certain areas etc (e.g for chuuya, i wish down his torso and stretch out his hips/pelvis, and the upper bit of his torso (like making it into an upside down cup or whateveridk) a little to give him a unique body shape and because i think its silly)

face is kept very simple so i can make more silly expressions, i rly enjoy making faces look incredibly cartoonish and exaggerated and recently i've been wanting to exaggerate them a bit more! the simple face makes it easy for me to do that cus i dont have to think of many features that i would have to change just to make the silly expression lololol

and that's basically it, i hope that was easy to understand :3

a couple other thoughts re: burt g. I don't think he's ever been a severed worker or if he has then he's very aware of . The implied long history with the company, the attempts to rekindle the same kind of humor burt and irv had and it seeming much more foreign to irving than it is to burt. Burt's acting suspicious on top of all that ofc.

Also, just relating to the workplace relationship and the discussions they had about it? Them being staunch Lutherians and gay. How they immediately think they had sex when they had not even kissed...

And this is more vibes-wise and speculative, but Burt being the "wild child" and one who needs to Get To Heaven to be with Fields, Burt pursuing Irving (in both senses of the word, to my eye),... It doesn't feel like love or a relationship purely based on it, but more like a keeper and his charge. Making sure he stays on the straight and narrow.
